Speaker 1 (00:24):
Good evening and look to a special edition I'll flames
and folkers. It's a live eppisodes.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
We're talking NHL Draft as rounds two through seven just
wrapped up here on a late Saturday afternoon, early evening,
we survived round one of the draft.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah. Man, that was something, wasn't it? There was?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
You know, I think you know, I think the NHL
listens to the fans pretty well. I guess if they
don't listen to them on this one, I really don't
care what the gms think. I can't do that. That
was like the COVID draft, remember that.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Oh yeah, And actually it's not even so much the
fans thought. It's all the analysts and people that work
in hockey they were promoting it. That really kind of
stoked the fire right. It's like everybody disagreeing and you know,
loud units in. This is horrendous. You know, I just
told you before we came on and I fell asleep
three or four times last night just because the format
was so boring.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Absolute nightmare it was.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
It was awful and it took what fifty minutes I
think for four picks to be made at one point today.
Fifty minutes. Yeah, for four picks.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
The second round started off like ragging two and I
was just like, man, if this continues to go there,
I thought we were going to be here till like
nine o'clock. And I'm like, we do in our live show,
and we will not even have picked all of our picks,
which we barely did right now, because yeah, just as
we were preparing to come on on the air. The
(01:55):
Flames sent their seventh round pick next year to Detroit
to acquire the two, one hundred and eleventh throng pick,
where they got jan and Metavinco, a player selected and
spent time with this Cessay's junior team last year. And yeah,
he's a six and fifty pound defenseman. Doesn't even say
(02:20):
even listed left.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Wah left wing center. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
So I don't know, let's you who start right at
the top, you want to start going through the picks,
just do that.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, it may as well. I mean, I don't I'm
as far as the top of the draft goes, I mean,
I don't think Flames could have done better given you know,
what they were looking for, what they came away with,
especially for a draft that's not, you know, considered to
be particularly deep. They've got two well potential centers and
Colorshni and Colin Potter. Potter may pe Dreckt Moore as
(02:57):
a winger potentially, But you know, these guys just young
could be play out the positioned around up playing both
the rest they pick, well, I think you may be
more excited than I am just because of proximity to
do you right in terms of where he's gonna play.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, he's coming to play in North Dakota this year
and that's where I'm at. So I'm excited to see that,
and I'll be able to watch the progression of the
Flames first round pick up close, and that's that's exciting
for me. I mean, obviously, you know I was, I
was kind of all over the board. I'm not a
huge prospects guy. I'm I'm the first to a minute
like I'm not. I'm not a huge prospects guy. I
don't study prospects. I don't study draft analysis pre draft.
(03:35):
I know my younger players, but not to the extent
that I probably should. But I had watched him play
and I was excited, you know, to see that. First off,
the Dow's committed to North Dakota this year, and then
of course, then it fell into the lap of the
Flames and that's who they pick. And you know what
(03:55):
made me the most happy. I guess about like day
one and the first round was it. You know, we
addressed our needs right and I went into the draft
think and if we if we drafted seven centers, I'm
not pissed, like I'm serious, Like it's darts at a
dartboard as far as I'm concerned. And that's how the
draft is. I mean, we can be excited as we
want about all these guys today, but there's a long
(04:17):
ways and a lot of progression that needs to happen
for this to turn out in a positive way. But
the first round pick, I think it's going to be good.
He's a he's a good player on both ends of
the heights, a responsible player. They can they can put
points up, and that is what the Flames are looking
for right.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Well, big time, especially at the center position. And well,
the two things that stood the most to me was
the desperate need for centers in particular center that you
know will be a right shot, be ideal, but that
wasn't the case. But two really good centers and also
very fast, you know, the pace of play in NHL now,
you can't be a slow plotting team, you know, despite
how it was twenty twenty five years ago. So I
(04:59):
don't think we could have had a better first round
short of, you know, trading some picks and moving up,
which Conrad mentioned he attempted to do at one point.
Obviously that didn't pan out. But I mean, I'll told
I don't think we can ask for much more than
the two players that we've selected, at least at this
point in time.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Does the size of rashni uh make you worry a
little bit at being five and eighty three pounds, and
albeit he is only you know, I mean there's development still.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
So yeah, it doesn't bother mean the least. I'm I mean,
I like some of my defenseman to be a bit bigger.
I used to want the goaltender to be bigger until
dust A Wolf came along or even uc Sorrows. But
size is matters less than it ever has at the
end the game right now. So I mean, what I
prefer to be a few inches taller?
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Probably, But do I care?
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Not?
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Really?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah? No, I like that he's a that he can
handle both ends of the ice.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Has been a responsible player, and I mean last year
in Victoria put up ninety two points and sixty two games.
I guess we can't argue with that. The late round
or the late first round pick of Colin Potter did
surprise me a little bit. I did not I did
not know, and he had not heard anything about the
Flames being that high on him, to the point where
(06:13):
Conry said last night that he was wanting to possibly
move up to protect that they would get him. I
was a little bit surprised on this one, but happy.
I know you did play a little bit of wing
last year for most of the year at Arizona State,
but has potential to be a center, and Conry made
(06:35):
it clear last night that he will be tried at
center and be thought of as a center. As a
prospect for the Flames.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Why wouldn't it be right, absolutely, giving what their needs are,
especially at that age. The funny thing to me is
that actually, just prior to that pick being made, I
saw a lot of people on ex Flames fans kind
of clamoring for them to make that pick, and even
just a few picks prior to that, when he's still available,
it's like, hopefully it's one of you know, say, three players,
and Colin Potter was on a few people's list, So yeah,
(07:01):
yeah again. I mean, I'm excited to see how this
guy plans it as well. I mean, they're both a
ways off. It doesn't address our center needs anytime soon,
but it gives us some hope for the future. And
you know, all told and hindsight's twenty twenty. But when
I think about past drafts, and I won't you know,
last year was exceptional. I thought that right from the
get go. But when you look at the last twenty
twenty five thirty years of Flames drafting, this again feels
(07:23):
like a draft where they really did their homework, made
sensible picks. There's good reason to believe a handful of
these guys will pan out to some extent or another,
you know, versus years gonna buy where we we would
have one NHL out of about every probably six or
seven picks.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, it seemed like it was trending that way.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I mean, the nineties were awful, the two thousands were
probably oward, twenty ten's were marginally better, and things have
kind of improved in the in recent years here now,
But I think the first two picks were safe. I
love that we addressed the center position. I can't state
that enough. I think that is so critical. I love
(07:59):
the speed of Potter, he is asked. I watched him
play a few times. He is really really fast, moves
to pack well, got good hockey jeans. His mom was
a really really good hockey player for the US team.
And uh yeah, all good.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah, a hundred percent. Again, it's funny to think of
what these guys could turn out to be. But I
think in terms of, you know, Colin Potter's game. I
watch quite a bit of of highlights of his as well,
like the way he flies to the neutral zone is
it's something to watch, you know. It's he's, as you said,
very very fast. And when you watch the Flames now,
they're not a particularly quick team. Guys like this can
(08:39):
certainly change that. And especially again that center position need
being what it is, I'm really curious to the team.
But the team does for stop gaps, you know, between
the centers they have now and when these guys are
potentially ready to play pro. And that's that's going to
be an interesting discussion as well.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Because it is going to be years and and the
stop gap I'm wondering if you know, when when do
you start addressing the center problem with trades or free agency.
And we'll talk a little bit about the Anderson situation
and maybe that leads to somehow getting a center. I
(09:12):
don't know, and I guess that's all speculation at this
point what will happen. But in the second round, which
was this morning, the Flames picked THEO stock Cilius in
the what was it, the.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Fifty fourth and I have a funny comment about this one.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Another says yep, another much.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Like, yeah, well it's another center slash winger. Potentially we'll
see what he turns out to be. But Cole Reshnie
going Dakota was one thing that stood to me that
maybe they give you now if I remember the word correctly,
it's called it's a called a a portmanteau, when you
combine a bunch of words together to make a new word.
THEO stock Celius is like combining two of your favorite
(09:54):
Flames ever, Christians Celias, theel three and Christian Celius. Yeah
I feel three, you know what?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I actually when I wrote this one, I was actually,
I'll know how to spell this one, like you're like,
I love hunter percentage and having him on the show
last year was great, and just getting to know him
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I still can't figure out how to spell this guy's name.
I had to look it up every time.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
It's funny and stock salius. We might even pronounce that
correctly because remember, like you know Oliver Shillington, you know
the Swedish name. People thought it was Kylington because how
it's spelled.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeh.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
We'll have to see how some of these names pan out.
But again another TV Yeah, yeah, and they were misleading
all of us, which is you know, that's why it goes.
They have a global game like this.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Right, Names are not always easy. In the third round,
the Flames did move off the center tradition and go
with a defenseman from the US developmental team, Maco Phillips.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
And I don't I I don't know a lot about
this player. I have heard.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
He's a he's a big, tough, strong physicis huge.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
He's a very very mean defenseman six six, I believe,
but definitely known for his toughness and mean streak. Uh kind.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
I believe he's a left wing too, and and he's
gonna fit that left side real well. And and we
need to you know, we when you look at our
our defensive draft, our prospect.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Pool that we have, we.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Have a lot of really really fun offensive defenceman coming up, right,
probably a glutton of offensive defenseman coming up and this
helps build that uh that strong, stay at home, tough
a guy that was in good with with a Breustovitch
or or or a Preak, you know what I mean,
(11:54):
in the in the future. So hopefully that pans out.
I like the thought process there.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Yeah, some people were bemoaning a little bit because the
likelihood of a defenseman like that panning out and pro
is certainly more rare than you know, your skilled players
their likelihood of making it.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Well, isn't that what the draft's all about? Though?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Well, I mean, you gotta take chances here and there.
I mean, but there's arey people bringing up Kigan Kanzig's name,
which was you know, kind of made it kind of
made me to laugh a bit, because I mean, you
have to give these guys a chance, right and anyway,
we'll see how that all goes. But he was definitely
a you know, they got their centers their forwards in
the first three picks, and obviously they deviating from that
and this guy I mean, you're gonna have to ask
(12:35):
me two years when I think of them, because right now,
like it's it's so far off from being illegit nh
all you know ready prospect that it's yeah, hopefully it
pans out because we do need a player like that,
as you just alluded to. But we'll see.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I had to laugh in the first round, and I
hate to bring up bad, bad flames memories here, but
when they announced Mason West from Medina High School, it
was like off the charts, right, I mean it was.
It was he's a center, he's a good hockey player
with high school hockey here are in Minnesota and next
door to me, and but he's a stud football player too,
and like they were, it would just it was not
off the chart pick. And he's a he's a bigger,
(13:09):
taller guy that hasn't filled it filled out. He's like
six seven, you know, he just he looks super skinny
at two hundred and eighteen pounds. And I was watching
the highlights of him and laughing and I'm just like,
oh my god, this looks just like this reminds me
of the Feaster debacle.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Oh easy, easy. Our viewers just been going up for
this last episode, you know, here and there, and you
might plummet it by bringing his name up.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
So oh, I just what I thought, Chicago pick that guy.
I'm just like, oh that is that is not good.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Anyway, on the onto the fifth round for the Flames,
one hundred and forty fourth pick overall left winger out
of sous Falls in the USHL, Ethan Wittenbach. He this
guy's like, this guy's got pro level scoring from what
they're saying. I watched some video on him here this morning.
Seem like a solid solid skater.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
I know he dealt with a knee injury this year
I in the USHL but ended up leading Sioux Falls
in scoring. But uh yeah, it'll be interesting to see
when you get down to these rounds. These are it
is a little bit more of a crap shoot, but uh,
you can.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
Really you can really really come into the park, right
like you can really like you know, obviously, Johnny Gudrouz
one the first is going to mind as it always
will when it comes to late round picks or mid
round picks if you want to call that. But yeah,
there's a lot of found gold in these rounds and
banking on these guys that have a lot of skill
and have proven they can score that often does translate
to the next level. So he's a guy gonna be
keep an eye on for sure.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
In the six round, one hundred and seventy six. Over all,
the Flames go another winger, right winger oh play at St.
Andrew's College, heading to Harvard this year.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Aiden Lane.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yep, don't know a ton about this guy from what
I've read today. Is a smart power winger with some
good size, So that'll help out, uh, the Flames with
with that aspect. But uh, you know again, it's it is.
It's a long ways down the road, and and and
(15:13):
then that leads us to our seventh round picks, which
is even longer down the road.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
And these are.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
These are a couple of guys that that I really
don't have much of a beat on at all as
far as prospects.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
And I'm just pulling up her seventh round here.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Well, I'm gonna say, but I'll mention just quickly about
Aden Lane too. He was like really really effective when
he joined Brampton towards the end of the season. I
think he was a point of game and very well
known for his for checking ability and ability to retrieve
pucks and puck battles and all those types of intangibles
that you need to win, especially when the games get tight.
So hopefully, you know, he develops as he currently is
(15:48):
and he'll be a very effective player.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
One day, the seventh round, Calgary goes with the defense
from a big guy six four and ninety six pound
Swedish defense from Jacob Leander. And then late in the
day and we touched on this a little bit ago
with moving a pick. Next year, the Flames did pick
I believe it was two hundred and eleventh Detroit. Yeah,
(16:12):
from Detroit left winger six' to one out Of. Russia
metfico AND i don't have a strong take on those
those last two.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
PICKS i. DON'T i haven't had a. Chance they happened
just so.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
RECENTLY i haven't had a chance to watch any videos
or anything act on these two.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Players, yeah in those late Round russians. TOO i, mean
it's hard to say if or when they know they'll come.
OVER i, mean obviously the team probably had some discussion
with him that he'd be willing to come To North
america's many players dream to, do regardless where they're. From but,
again gonna be a ways off on that one for.
Sure BUT i don't think there is a lot to
know about him at this. POINT i believe he's an
over ager, too is he? Not he? Is he's, eighteen
(16:56):
he'll be actually, Yet well he'll be nineteen In, August so,
yeah he. Was he was an. Overreach, yeah two way
winger known for his playmaking. Ability, yeah he's you, know
produced well year over, year so could turn into. Something
but you, know this is also kind of uncharted territory
for us because only in the last years have we actually,
(17:18):
had you, know so many, picks because we just mortgaged
the future so many goddamn times over the.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Years, Right so it's two years in a row where
we've had seven plus picks in the, draft and we
we're going. YEARS i feel, like did did you feel
like today when you're watching the, Draft like it's, like
does Z edmund do not have any? Picks Does vegas
not have any? Picks like just there was certain TEAMS
i was, like, man they're not they're not are they
even they're not even?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Drafting you?
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Know and that was the flames for many. Years and
now we're stockpiling those, cupboards and the cupboards were getting
a little bit more packed with with players that that
can help us olf for the future.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Here, yeah, yeah. Exactly so a lot more to di
Get ino the next few days in terms of what
these schedule ports are and some of these. PLAYERS i, mean,
overall a good, DAY a good couple of, days you should,
say especially where we weren't really sure what to, expect
BECAUSE i think a lot of people Thought Rasmus anderson
would have been, dealt which would have had draft, implications
but that was not the.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Case so should we talk about the signings and then
we'll talk a little bit About rasmus and what happens
there in the. Future but the signings we had actually
news to start the morning off right away today As
Kevin ball re signs with The Calgary flame six, years
five point three. Five the big defenseman we got in
The markstrom trade really was, good really really good last,
year and the contract is different to. Say in this
(18:33):
first year he gets two point three five million with
a three million dollars signing, bonus and then gets five
point three five in the following two through. Six he
has an eight team no trade for years three through.
SIX i was impressed with this play last. Year he's
exactly what we need to help supplement some of these
offensive defensemen that we have coming up the.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Shoots AND.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I didn't mind the. TOURNAMENT i didn't mind the, avy did.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
YOU i love both of, them and takes some right
into his prime, years such that his contract would expire
when you think he's thirty one the. Cap that's super,
reasonable especially considering it's going. Up this is a player
that was very positive About calgary and vocal about the
fact he wanted to be. Here, YEAH i, mean it
makes all the sense in the role to. Me AND
(19:19):
i really felt that had he not been injured this
season with the, concussion WHICH i believe was Against, minnesota
The flames would have made the. Playoffs his play was
good enough that he could, have you, know garned them
a few more points on the board just with how
strong his defensive play. Was they of all the guys
that missed time this, year you, Know connor's area being
another really important, ONE i think balls had the biggest
(19:39):
impact on the team's success or lack there. Of. Yeah
SO i love the deal all. AROUND i think it's.
Fantastic it's really and it's a really positive thing to,
see especially when the fans AND i think ourselves, included
we're kind of hoping for And anderson trade or some
other kind of trade. Movement it's positive to see somebody
that you, want you, know as part of your, team
decide to stick around in the midst of expecting something
else to, have.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
RIGHT i, MEAN i was happy to see this side
and THAT i was kind of gonna start to get
a little bit worried that it hadn't happened by, now
AND i don't, know it started my morning off off
pretty damn. Good, yeah, yeah who signs to quick talk
About since we last, Talked Dryden hunt signs a two
year two way deal for eight twenty five And Justin
(20:22):
kirkland signs a one, year one way deal for nine hundred.
THOUSAND i am dying to hear your thoughts on both of.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
THEM i have a little bit of a bias at
times WHEREIN i want the team to move on to
certain people WHO i just see as, tweeeners AND i
don't often give enough respect to the role they, played
And Dryden hunts one of those. Players he was good
when he played for The. Flames he was very vialable
with The. Wranglers so my first thought was like, Why
but Then i'm, like, okay you know, What, no this
(20:50):
doesn't make. SENSE i mean he's been a good soldier
for the team and it could fill into a pinch
kind of. Thing IS i feel like we say about
a lot of flames right. Now but, yeah, no no
issue with. THAT i would have been fine with one,
year but two is. Fine and then The kirkland, situation
especially after it was announced that the teams were the
team was rightly moving on From Tyson berry uh and
also moving On Fanthony, mantha WHO i actually liked quite
(21:12):
a bit and was hopefully he might get like maybe
ANOTHER pto of all the guys that got hurt or
didn't play, Well, Kirkland kirkland deserved another. CHANCE i, mean
even if he just you, know shot in the, shootouts
he's worth the contract they gave, him.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Right you, know WHEN i saw The Dryden, HUNT i
laughed and thought of you right away BECAUSE i know
your feelings on. That and but What i've always thought
About Dryden hunt is like he's not gonna be a
game changer, ever but you know, what you can put
him in the lineup and a pinch when there's an
injury or. Something he's, safe, Right he's just gonna for
the most part.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
And he and he's safe for.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
You but WHAT i did like about this is this
kind of pegs him as a leader in for The,
wranglers maybe a captain assistant captain role where he's gonna
have THE nhl, experience but yet be, solid solid player
in THE a and really lead some of these younger
players and help them move up the. Ranks AND i
(22:07):
know a lot OF ahl teams have those, guys AND
i think that's super smart in developing the young. Players
as for The, Kirkland i'm interested to see how this plays.
Out like he definitely could be our fourth line center this,
year AND i would have no problem with.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
THAT i JUST i. DON'T i.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Don't as much AS i liked WHAT i saw last,
YEAR i don't feel LIKE i got enough time to
get a full beat on him. Yet but the WAY
i looked at it is what's the worst that, happens
so we put him on? WAIVERS i, mean, YEAH i
mean he's JUST i, mean if if there's another spot
person that can move into that role and do a better,
job so he goes on.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Waivers BUT i think there's.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
UPSIDE i feel like there's, upside AND i feel like
he could fit that fourth line role in the center
position very. Well and like you, said he's like an
ace in the hole on the. Shootouts so how do
you go?
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Wrong, YEAH i, MEAN i think it's also big reason
why they're moving on from From Kevin rooney as. Well
was taking a chance on On kirkland to play that.
Role BUT i, mean the guy's BEEN i didn't even
want to. Come they can't really come a late blower
because he never really. Bloomed he blew his knee out. Right,
Yeah so it's such a small sample. Size i'm cautiously,
(23:16):
optimistic but you know WHAT i saw.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
HIM i.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Loved i've watched those shootout, goals god knows how many,
times and it makes all the sense of the roll
to give, it give it a. Chance like you, said
there's no risk, involved so that why not keep them?
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Around and we touched on The wranglers and over the
break we had here since our last regular, episode which
is one a week and a half right, Now Brett
sutter was named head coach of the H O. WRANGLERS
i don't know, why BUT i felt LIKE i was.
SURPRISED i, MEAN i wasn't unhappy about. It what were your, THOUGHTS.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
I, MEAN i wasn't surprised at always been gearing towards
that position for quite some time. NOW i guess one
of the biggest REASONS i wasn't really surprised was, that you,
know with all the shuffling on coaching, staffs like with you,
Know trent call having a full time this with The flames,
now it's like somebody knew was going to be coming
in and they had to kind of rebuild that. Bench
AND i, Mean cutter knows the whole organization so, well
(24:10):
in the players so. WELL i mean it's kind of
a natural fit to give him a, shot.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Right, YEAH i think he'll do, Fine And i'm really
excited to see what we get all these players move
up this. Year where where does The hansa go where you,
know there's so many players that are going to have
the opportunity this year with The wranglers to uh to
really stake their claim to earning a spot or a
(24:35):
call up to The, flames so that that'll be.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Interesting we talked a.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Little bit about UFAs AND r fas and we've Signed,
hunt we Signed. Kirkland mantha is.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Not going to re. Sign rooney's not going to.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Reside but the two that still hang out there in
THE ufa categories Is Joel hanley And Dan. Vlodar the
latest On Dan vladar is that there's a contract on
the table for. Him he doesn't want a starter's. Role
do you think he gets a starter's role somewhere and
or do you think he circles back and takes the flames.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Off he's not gonna be a start or, anywhere just full,
stop it's not gonna. Happen but he could very well
get more money elsewhere to be a reliable backup and,
play you, know thirty plus. Games, potentially that'd be a
pretty heavy workload for a. Guy it's never really had that,
much but he showed really well last. YEAR i don't
(25:26):
anytime a guy gets a contract offer and doesn't sign,
it that tells me he's going to market and somebody,
else because the wheels start turning in your own head, too,
Right it's, like, Okay i'm gonna go to. MARKET i
can see what's out. There somebody who offers you some,
money he's probably gonna be gone unless he, signs you,
know Before, tuesday AND i don't see that. Happening AND
i believe In Joel hanley's, case he's already it's already been.
(25:48):
Said he's gonna go to, market which means someone's probably
gonna overpay. Him think nothing away from the player had
a fantastic, season but guys like that, rarely rarely replicate
that type of success at that. Age DO i expect
him to be a very service defenseman. Somewhere he's not
gonna be playing with gle like mckinziwiger put up the
kind of numbers he did this past. SEASON i do
not see.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
IT i, AGREE i, AGREE i think he's a risky.
RESIGN i wouldn't be totally upset up if the term
was manageable and and the A v is. Manageable BUT
i agree it's it's it's gonna be tough to replicate that,
again and, uh it'll Be he's he is definitely one
of those. Guys it's, like, yeah Easier mark to get
overpaid and.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Be, right, yeah, WELL i, mean and it could be
a team LIKE la who just gave Away Jordan, spence
who's a you know we played junior, Here ottawa's, defense
which was already you, know full of, talent just got
a hell of a lot. Better Jordan spence might be
most underrated defenseman in THE nhl right now in my.
Opinion and then you, KNOW i don't know what the
Hell Ken holland's doing IN, la but he gives him.
(26:46):
Away so a team LIKE la could be back up
the brankstruck for guy Like Joel, hanley which makes no,
sense but it's entirely. Possible. Yeah, Yeah like right, NOW
i Think Joel edmonson is going to wind up in
The king's top, four which concerns me so as A
flames Fanom i'm, delighted But KING i would concern me.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Too.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Yeah THE r phase we took care Of Kevin ball,
Today Morgan frost And Connor zari still hang out, there and,
Uh I'M i knew both of these contracts were going
to be, difficult sticky. Ones is it time to worry
at all or time to panic at? All or is
this just part of the. PROCESS i keep killing. Myself
it's just part of the.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Process so it. IS i, mean they are are phase
or not, UFAs there's no panic at. All. Frost If i'm,
HIM i probably wanted to prefer a contract talks still
about two months into the season because he didn't show
anything other than he can almost score as a, Flame
so he probably wants a chance, to you, know have.
IT i kind of liken it to When Roman turk's
on his Contension calgary started the season with two shutouts
(27:47):
in a row and got paid very handsomely for a
very small sample, Size And frost is probably smart to
try and make a similar, play like get off to
a good start of the season and you, know at
a couple couple of dollars that, offer because right now
he's not worth. Much and same, same but a little
different With. ZARI i, mean he was hurt so much
with his knees right. That, YEAH i don't, KNOW i
(28:08):
Don't he doesn't have a lot of a lot of leverage.
EITHER i Think zari would sign first because he's more
of a known, commodity but, god who. Knows both those
players are in strange at strange points in their.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Careers they, are they're, in they're, in they're difficult contract.
TALKS i think with, that let's talk About Rasmus Anderson And.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
I'm not gonna.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Lie i'm a little disappointed right, Now and not THAT
i wanted us to just give him away or anything like,
that but all the TALK i heard leading into this
week was the market probably couldn't be. BETTER i did
have a couple of people tweet to me and tell, me, well,
yeah we need to see what happens in In florida
first with that blad and and just kind of see it,
(28:51):
out see that, out and then work on The anderson.
Thing and you, Know I'm i'm a both the most
non panic person when it comes to moving, players but
like on this, ONE i was, like all, RIGHT i
feel like the market's.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Good let's take it while we.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
CAN i am definitely deathly afraid of running this guy
up until trade deadline next. YEAR i don't like. IT
i don't want to do. IT i want to start
the season off knowing he's signed with us or not
signing with.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Us he's not gonna be signing with us because they're
not gonna pa him what he. Wants there's just not
going to.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
AGREE i, agree there's no there's.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
No way that's gonna. Happen so what was mentioned On
next today a couple of times over was the fear
of the flames in to play opposition to keep him
at the, deadline and he walks for nothing the next,
summer which would be a colossal, mistake especially again as
we've constantly talked about and again, today how many good
defensive prospects we.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Have we cannot do. That we cannot do.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
THAT i think he's, gonna, yeah he's gonna be gone
by the end of the. SUMMER i hope. That that's my.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
HOPE i feel like this is some, way, somehow a
way to flip him into a. Center we need a,
Center like somehow we got to somehow we got to
maneuver this so that we get a center out of
this one. Center probably, not but we need stop gaps
right now until we can develop some prospects and stuff.
(30:15):
Like but with something's got to be done to help
us down the, middle AND i feel like this is
something we need to we need to leverage to do that.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Well.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Ideally the other problem is that it's been said as,
well like giving Up anderson means you're going to have
a pretty big hole in your. Defense despite how terrible
he was at times last, year he had a very off,
year even by his own. Admission so what happens here
is that if you apparently the player and the team
have both said we're content to go into, Camp rasmus
is A calgary, flame WHICH i don't hate that because
(30:48):
it shows there's no, animosity there's no expectation of the media,
trades so it doesn't really hurt his trade. Value but
If I'm craig, CONRIGHT i almost ask, him, like can
you just hold a pressure for, us just, say living
a cargo flame and this is where you want to,
play and then, they you, know before the questions really come,
in you, know grab the shepherd's hook and pull away
from the podiums that you can deal him when the
time is right for the right, return you, know like if.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
The whole hockey world knows he's not resigning, here our
leverage is breaking history and we're not going to get
what we deserve for.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Him.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Right, well you say, that but at the same, Time
Joe sackett got a king's ransom From matt To shane years, ago,
RIGHT i, Know AND i was one of the most
critical people of him at that. Time so it can
still be, done but you have to tread so. Carefully
and my.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Luck though he blows his knee out Mid november and then.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
What, well, YEAH i, mean IT'S i don't, know it's
it's just, like what do you do? Right there's no
perfect answer here other than to, say, like it's going
to create a hole in our, Defense Like Zane perek
is not nearly good enough defensively to make a difference
in THE nhl defensively, OFFENSIVE i think you will ride
away much Like Dion fineff, did only he's even more
(31:53):
skilled Than dion was in that. RESPECT i just don't.
Know if you Trade anderson and you, get you, know
a decent, center and there's already been talk like you
know they're gonna try to Sign Cody glass and free
agency and like things like, that there's just there's show
any moving pieces. HERE i don't know what the answer
is other than to SAY i don't mind keeping him
for the, summer BUT i don't want this dragon of the,
season because no matter what anybody, says no matter how
(32:15):
positive they try to, talk it's always a distraction for everybody's,
idiot the, team, management the. Fans it's just, like, okay
like we know this marriage is coming to an. End
can we just sign the? Paperwork?
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Yeah that's HOW i.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Feel, yeah and you know you know another thing, too,
Like and we've talked about trade proposals on this show numerous,
times and most of the time me and you take our.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Head and laugh at. HIM i did see one, though
AND i want to get your take. ON i saw
this ON x the.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Other day and it was a trade pool proposal by
A Carolina hurricanes fan Called Zach kaneyac and it Was
carolina Receives Rasmus anderson And calgary's twenty six third round.
Pick calgary Gets Kaka, Yammy Scott morrow And dallas's first round,
pick six first round.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
PICK i don't Want cockyny, maybe but you. Don't, No,
NO i mean it's a little unfair of me because
it's not it's not his. Fault he got fucking paid
on an offer.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Sheet, Right, no but here's the, Deal LIKE i would
probably do, that and here's WHY i would say he's
a stop gap and then we got a first round pick.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Too, YEAH i wouldn't hate. IT i just, like, ah you, know,
like but, realistically like each position is not equally, valued,
Right you're not going to trade a top four defenseman
for a top two. Center not not? Likely, anyway you
might get like a middling two way center who can play,
second you, know a little power play like in a
pinch kind of, thing but they don't translate the. Same so,
(33:41):
AGAIN i don't know what to make of. That that's
not the worst trade for poles in the. WORLD i
wouldn't be upset by.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
It that's the only REASON i talked about it on,
here because it Wasn't it wasn't like an off the wall,
one you know WHAT i.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Mean, oh some of the ones that you, SEE i just,
yeah but this, one WHEN i read, IT i was,
LIKE i don't know If i'd LIKE i, honestly THAT'S
i had the same feeling as.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
YOU i was, LIKE i don't know If i'd like
that or, not but like it sounds, Realistic LIKE.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
I guess what? What what kind of bothered me?
Speaker 1 (34:06):
This you?
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Know going into this weekend was like the people are
being negative About conroy's uh work thus far in terms
of trades he's made or hasn't. Made it's, like, man
it's been really, really really. Good and a few people
bemoaning the Fact anderson hasn't. Tradable there's a reason he
has been, traded like Apparently vegas tried to acquire, him
And Vegas vegas has nothing for assets, really you, know
(34:28):
on the grand scheme of what a guy Like Rasmus
anderson should net, you they probably have the least offer
of any team of, him Maybe toronto right Or. Florida
so it's just, ANYWAY i have no complaints about. It
where as far as where things are at right, now
the old the biggest REASON i want To anderston get
traded because it gave us something cool to talk. About
if that was the, case hasn't happened. Yet we could
(34:48):
be looking at A Mitch maurner, trade WHICH i don't
care what team we're talking, about what. Podcast that would
be a huge. Deal although to this, POINT i don't
think anything has. Happened it doesn't look like it.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
HAS i know all that talk is going. On, yeah
what did you think? About let's talk about a couple.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Things gibson gets traded To detroit today From anaheim From
raazac and some other pieces. TOO i don't even remember
what the other pieces, were but what it. Was your
thoughts On gibson finally getting moved AND i almost thought
it would, ever it would always just inevitably end up In,
edmonton and it didn't.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Well the expectation The oilers would just finally find a,
goaltender EVEN i, mean, hell even if it was a
career journeyman Like Peter, MORAZZAK i, Mean raazak's played With, Carolina, Detroit.
Chicago like he's bounced around a fair, bit, Right but
the fact that there was a bona, fide at least
(35:45):
past number one goaltender with, young young enough to be
one again was available and The oilers weren't able to
scrap together a package to scrap together package to get,
Him like it's, like holy, shit, man like that was
the best goalie available in the market that we know. Of,
yeah and it wasn't particularly.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Close you can't do, it, WELL i.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
DON'T i, Mean and, see, now it's funny because every
fan base reacts to whatever's one other, team of, course
and you see The whalers fan base already reacting to
the fact they didn't get, him and all they're gonna
run it back Was. SKINNER i don't know that they're
necessarily going. To but it's also funny to me that
people are saying things, like, Oh skinner got them to
back to Back cup. Finals, Well Calvin pickard had a
big hand to get in there this, Year yes he,
did AND i forget who it, was but one of
(36:26):
the first persons to respond to that argument About skinner
carrying them or getting, THEM i should, say two back
to back. Finals you can't tell me if you didn't
take the goalies and do this that it wouldn't be
a different. RESULT i ain't gonna hear, it you, know,
yeah you, know there's your goaltender in those, situations has
got to make those big saves at the right. Moments
(36:47):
and Maybe skinner's a, ONE a ONE b, somewhere but
evonton to get over the, hump they need a bear,
goaltender and there was none better to get Than John.
Gibson AND i Applaud Steve eisenber Forgetting gibson because he
knows he's gonna make the. Playoffs gibson needed to change the.
Scenery AND i can See, gibson no matter where he,
went having a huge season next year and dragging a
team kicking and screaming into the, playoffs despite how crappy
(37:09):
the rest of the team might. Be so that's My
John gibson.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Ran we've been dying and starving for a center and
one of the guys that was on the list of you,
know potential targets for The flames as A Jj peterca
and this week he gets moved From buffalo To utah
For michael Kessel ring And Josh don mm.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
So uh huh.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
MAN i don't know if there's a gem in the
league that has his poor read in the market As
Kevin adams does In. Buffalo and you'd think for a
guy that said in a press conference last, week to be,
HONEST i feel bad for our, fans he'd think he'd
be more in touch with what he should be able
to acquire for the asset city.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Has you know how organizations have like name our team
or pick our mascot and pick our. Logo, yeah uffleo
should have like pickar, trades help us, out.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Pick our Gm like why is this guy LIKE i
just and and it is and you're absolutely.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Right and well an somebody help. Them but you.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
See the same thing in every every damn business in the.
Planet you have to put people in positions that they're good,
at play them to their. Strengths but if you're if
you're treating a pro sports franchise like a, plaything which
essentially what The pegulas do BECAUSE i don't care about The.
Sabers all they care about the, Bills like it's always
going to be the same unless you hire, qualified intelligent
(38:48):
people to make these. Choices Kevin adams might do better
in a different. ATMOSPHERE i don't, know but what's going
on In buffalo and seeing what they're, getting.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Like, son so nobody in that office like raised their
hand and was, like, hey you might want to make
a few more phone.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Calls somebody may have and they got to get, overruled,
right like holy, god but and you know you. Can't
i've got some really good friends that are that Are sabers.
Fans you. KNOW i spent a lot of time talking
To Matthew barney a few weeks. Ago you, know he
was a very very Popular, saber knows the organization very.
Well all those people deserve better with this. Team buffalo
(39:25):
is a great sports. Town and as A flames fan
and a long suffering, one and actually was kind of
thinking today to watch what The kings are doing by Trading,
Spence like The kings fans now are, like oh my,
god it's so miserable of being A kings. Fan i'm
kind of watching the direction they're headed. IN i kind
of sure to see. It like they keep running it
back With cope Darn dowdy like it's two thousand and. Nine,
yeah it's Absolutely these are supporting pieces at best. Now,
(39:49):
yeah and you just traded your probably your best defenseman
for absolutely, nothing, Right and we did that with the
gimlin kippersoft hung on to them way too long or
relied on them way too. Long AND i would say
we're no longer the longest suffer if we ever were
the longest suffering fans in pro, sports if you ignore
things Like toronto's, cuptrout like at least some pro hockey
(40:10):
we're there's Some sabers, Fans kings.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Fans, fans got. It oh they're the worst right.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
NOW i feel so bad for.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Them oh it's, terrible, man it's. Terrible it's not funny.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Speaking of other TEAMS i feel bad.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
For, ACTUALLY i don't feel. BAD i think this is Like,
brobably the funniest THING i saw all week was with The.
Canucks oh Wire. Evanders so let me get this. Straight
you your locker room couldn't HANDLE J. T. Miller, yeah
so you sent a stud player packing and you acquire.
(40:49):
Another oh my, god that locker.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Room what do you? Think Quinn hughes said when he
saw that, NEWS i would love to SEE i would
love love to know what he. THOUGHT i.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
THOUGHT i think he already knew he was leaving, town
AND i think it just booked an earlier.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Flight, Like, no there's no way.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
To be, fair to be fair TO. Jt, MILLER i
don't know how much the problem WAS. Jt miller and
how much the problem Was Elias. Petterson, usually usually the
truth is somewhere more in the. MIDDLE i, think you,
Know miller is more of a competitor Than pederson's shown
to be to this point in his. Career but if
you have a locker room that was no doubt, divided,
(41:33):
uh you, know acrimonious at, times and you bring in
a guy Like Evander kine like and now there's talk
as well if you hadn't heard The Thatcher demco was
either going to sign extension By july first or, whatever
or he was going to want it. Yep and whether
that's true or it, isn't the fact is there's rumblings
around your team that still screamed. Discontent and if you
(41:53):
watched and we talked about this a little while, ago
AND i get just as fired up then AS i. Am,
now you roll out a guy Like Jim brotherfood who's
like one hundred and seventy years, old and try to
explain to the fan base what your team's. Doing then
while they're watching this, guy thinking, like can we not
get somebody else to do this? Job like there's just
there's so much going on around that, team which just
as a flames, fay you just sit there and eat
(42:14):
pop and you, would especially because you hate The connects
way more THAN i, do way.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
More WHEN i saw that first of, all you, know
like there's so much bs on ON x, now you,
know like you just sometimes you're just, like, OH i
really got to check into this BECAUSE i don't know
IF i should believe. This like WHEN i saw, That i'm, like,
whoa this this can't be.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Right this help is. Happening this cannot be.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Right and Then i'm looking And i'm like multiple sources
And i'm just Like.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
I'M I i JUST i don't even. KNOW i don't
even know what to say.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Anymore so let's let's let's park that that negative story
and hilarious story For flames fans and many. Others let's
talk about something overwhelmingly positive that happened as, well and
that said On july, First Jonathan taves is officially going
to join his hometown one of big.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Jets i'm.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
EXCITED i, mean you live very close To. WINNIPEG i
have a huge In North. Dakota, yeah that's and if
you read what that guy went through in terms of
his health, issues how hard he had to work to get. Back,
now the shitty thing is In Winnipeg elers is. Gone
that's pretty well unknown fact now unless he, did and
(43:20):
they're always, like well he might circle back to he's
not circling back To. WINNIPEG i hate when people say that.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
He would have.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Signed there's no circling, back and there's no circling.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Back that's Why John tavares already signed In toronto for
by the, way probably the tidiest Work Brad Tree living
has ever done as A, gm because you got t
VARs for a very reasonable cap hip cap hit on
a four year. Contract Now eeler's Leaving winnipeg As taves
is coming, in it's like, wait, no, no this guy's,
coming like come, back like we you know we can do,
this we can run it. BACK. O could you imagine
(43:51):
we'll get hell about a sports psychologists like you, know
so when now you're losing this really potent scoring winger
and bringing in WHO i expect will be still one
of the better two way centers in hockey and one
of the best leaders in hockey bar. None but AND
i feel for, Them but WHAT i don't again this
whole you know circle back thing that you hear in free.
AGENCY i don't remember the last player that tested the
(44:13):
market and then came. Back AND i know there's one
that It's it's somewhere in my. BRAIN i just can't find.
It but usually when it's, like oh he could circle,
back it's it's like when you break up with YOUR.
X oh, no she's she's gonna go dat around, it
but she'll be. Back don't. Worry like she knows you're the.
One she doesn't know that she left for a.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Reason, Right So i'm going to make a prediction so
you can make fun of me here on our next.
EPISODE i feel Like Dan vlodard is gonna still sign.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Here did he ever say he was gonna test the? Market?
Though fair so that that's a key. Difference now you
could you get the rat just Because vodar had such
moments of brilliance last. Year i'm concerned somebody's gonna, say
all The flames offered you two point, eight we're gonna
give you four on a one year. Deals oh, god
(45:02):
they'd be on.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Crack Would buffalo do?
Speaker 3 (45:04):
That?
Speaker 1 (45:04):
MAYBE i don't.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Know edmonton probably should if they can find four million,
dollars which they should be able to know that they
Sent kane.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Out But, edmonton, Yeah edmonton probably. Should But edmonton could
probably tell him two million dollars and he'd be, Like
i'll take it because he knows he's gonna get to play.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
There, yeah but you'd have to live In edmonton. ANYWAY
i don't. Know, well, actually not a. Sale it's only
three hour drive it. ANYWAY i.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Digress speaking of crappy, places what are your thoughts Of
atlanta being an Expansion.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
We talk about this another.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Day, well, no it's it's, topical it's relevant right. Now
it just came. Out oh, boy so they they lost
both hockey teams To, canada which is pretty amazing to.
Do you know when your dollars, yeah, yeah when you're
when you're dollars trading thirty cents. Less it's hard to,
do just to say nothing of all the other issues
(46:00):
Being canada in THE us right, Now LIKE i DON'T
i don't. KNOW i, mean to, Me atlanta makes a
hell of a lot more sense Than. Phoenix every day
is a hockey market despite the, BacT phoenix is actually
Our arizona rather turning out some pretty good players now
Obviously Austin matthews and several. Others BUT i can't help
but feel, that like it's hard to judge a seventies
(46:24):
franchise by modern. Standards as to why the flames didn't
pan out, There i've read about. IT i can't remember
all the, history but it was long ago Well Ted
turner of The Atlanta. Thrashers, So Ted turner had, an
as we all, know monstrous media, conglomerate one of the
most successful media moguls in the history of the, world
right Alongside Rubert. Murdock, so but The thrashers turned to
(46:47):
broadcast and didn't really care about The thrashers and they
just went through that major merger WITH, aol which was.
Disastrous so it was like the perfect storm of why
this team was never going to work In atlanta for
anybody knew anything about the insides of that. Business So
i'm not gonna say a third time as a. Chairman
i'm also gonna say the previous two times there's damn
good reasons that didn't. Work SO i need to do some.
(47:09):
Research i'll tell.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
You i'm gonna tell. You have you ever been To?
Speaker 3 (47:14):
Atlanta not, yet.
Speaker 1 (47:21):
Don't.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
GO i don't think it helped by the way that
their first overall pick Was Patrick. Stephen, NO i don't think.
So there you talk about starting off on the wrong.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
Foot he had some good players, Though and that's just
not a hockey market like you can you can tell me.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
There the hugest television market in the. World you, know
all this.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
CRAP i don't. Care like if you if there's no
there is something to be said. About if you didn't
grow up playing, hockey you're not gonna be a hockey.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
Fan and there's not a lot of hockey In.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Atlanta, No, No And i'd like To i'd like to
talk to you about.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
THAT i, mean it's JUST i don't, KNOW i don't.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
Know we'll. See, Yeah i'd like to talk to, like you,
know Like Bray farrer who had met, before who was
a big piece Of atlanta in their first year or.
Two he had seventy six points there one. SEASON i,
Remember i'd be curious for like a, guy like a
veteran hockey, mind hockey player like, him what his take
was in Why atlanta. Failed there was a lot of
the ship, too like The Dan snyder accident With danny Heat.
Lee like a lot of bad shit happened during that.
(48:25):
Team and they had that one playoff series in two
thousand and seven where they, went you, know zero and
four against The. Rangers they Powered rangers who just steamrolled.
Them so, YEAH i don't, know we'll. See but at
the same, time to talk about it more, broadly Like
i'm getting tired OF anhl, expansion like when? Isn't when? Is?
When do we have enough?
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Teams and actually we probably could contract three or.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
Four, yeah, well and let's talk about that for a
minute before we get out of. Here so let's THE cba.
Revisions so eighty four, games.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
Four preseason, games eighty four regular season. Games, YEAH i
don't know HOW i feel about. THAT i, mean.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
Eighty two for so, long why do we have to change?
Speaker 2 (49:13):
IT i like the preseason going down to. Four why
not just do eighty two and Start september.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
FIFTH i, Mean i'd go mid to Late. SEPTEMBER i.
Wouldn't to, me the regular season shuts to start By september
thirty if at least gain a week or, so, right
you gotta because training camp takes.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Time but Mid, june we can't do this. Anymore it's.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
Crazy it's just starting to eat in the. Summer but
like in the eighty four game, thing one of the
ARGUMENTS i heard was, like, OH i guess you, know
players two extra game to hit the performance bonus?
Speaker 1 (49:45):
Is who?
Speaker 3 (49:45):
Cares these guys are all. Millionaires, anyway if you can't
do it eighty two, games you probably won't do it
in eighty.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
Four, well now it's gonna Be, now it's gonna screw
the stats up and people are gonna BE asti and,
shit AND i don't, Know.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Hey play per game player in eighty two games is
no longer a point game point per game. Player so
ye kind of dumb when you think about. It but
also it's, like why are we messing with? This who
asked for two more regular season? GAMES i sure as hell.
DIDN'T a qualifying round for wild card if there's two
teams tied to the same amount of, points maybe the
best of. Three there's an. Idea i'm not saying it's
a great, idea but it's an. Idea nobody wants to
more regular season. Games we screamed for them to shorten
(50:20):
the season, because like you just, said it's going way
too far Into. June and what do they. Do they
give us two more regular season games. Instead, yeah it's.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Money it's, money, money, money. Money, Okay SO i want
to just roll through the other parts of this so
quick since we are talking about. It they want maximum
player contract links shortened from seven to six, years so
seven if you are on the, team you can sign
six if you're not on that. Team i'm fine with.
THAT i think that that makes even more.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
Sense, yeah, sure, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
New comprehensive, playoffs salary cap, system closing the LT I r.
LOOPHOLE i think that needs to happen for the integrity
of the, game if nothing.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
Else, yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
Absolutely draft picks signing RIGHTS uh to university expired at
age twenty, two regardless of the, League so it doesn't
matter where you, are whether you're just at twenty two
that your signing rights expire, yeah fine with. That the
first salaries, Banned i'd all for, that and then significant
(51:20):
increase to The Stanley cup playoff bonus fun nearly double the.
MONEY i don't know that we need to pay these
guys anymore to. Win they should want to, win, like
let's have a heart. Too many of these young millennials
now are just worried about the money and not. Winning
i'm old. SCHOOL i want to hold the cup right,
yep established full time ebug that should have been done years.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
Ago, yeah that's long.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Overdue here's where you're gonna get me fired. Out no dress,
Code yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:55):
Ridiculous this is one, Thing but that's, like you know,
WHAT i pray that the PLAYERS i pray that you're gonna.
HAVE i can name them for you right. NOW i
can make a, list BUT i AND i BUT i.
WON'T i will bet you that eighty five to ninety
percent of the players will still dress the same, well.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
AND i suspect a lot of coaching staffs to take
into their own hands to say this could become a contentious,
issue but they're gonna tell their players they expect them
a dress a certain, way the same way as in
the organized hockey team.
Speaker 2 (52:20):
As its teams cannot mandate.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
IT i don't like.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
It they can still say they expect, it that it's
not necessarily a, mandate, Right SO i don't. Know to,
me it's like it's a privilege to do what they
do and, yeah like they it's been the way for
that way for so. LONG i think it teaches something,
too specially for younger, players especially if it come through the.
Ranks they have to like it just teaches them, respect you, know, oh,
(52:48):
pageantry like just those types of. Things, right you go
to A.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
I watched this this.
Speaker 2 (52:54):
Year if you go to a hockey rink on A
saturday morning and there's a pee wee game going, on
a lot of those kids show up dressed.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Up, now that's What i'm. Saying, yeah, Yeah and.
Speaker 2 (53:06):
The reason they do it is because they see the
pros do, it and that pros doing that is setting
an extremely good example and the reason THAT i think
a lot of the players will do it Because i'm,
SORRY i still think that the small Town saskatchewan boy
they were playing in The National Hockey.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
League is going to show it and act like he's a.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
Professional, YEAH i would suspect, so, YEP.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
I just hate that we're to the point in society
where we're stripping the look of professionalism away from. Professionals
call me old.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
School well and it is old, school but that's. Okay
it's LIKE i just, AGAIN i don't see a need to.
Change it not hurt anybody IF i think it's probably helping.
People so, yeah all, right that was the draft, show
just like, That just like.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
That now we'll do a free agency show this.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
Week, yeah that'd, here So i'll be. Around we're doing.
It we're doing, It we're doing.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
After, that then we'll have some special. Episodes so we've
got some a couple of those in the. Hoppers so,
yeah you know what we forgot to, Do, Kyle we
forgot to say thank you to The Florida panthers for
winning The Stanley. Cup i'm not A Florida panthers, fan
But i'm sure as hell not An Edmonton others, Fan
so thank.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
You.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
YEAH i alluded to some of this in our prior,
episode and there was where my head was at, personally so,
yeah you, KNOW i, YEAH i didn't bother me in the.
Least so.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Oh it's good all in. ALL a good draft for The,
flames a good couple of. Days maybe not the moves
we or some of us, wanted but there's still, time
there's still, hope AND i like the direction this team's.
