(00:00):
Hey there, how's it going.Name's Josh, one of your co hosts
here on the FTC podcast. Yeah, I didn't have an intro for this
episode. Audio was lost. Yeah, I don't know how that happened.
It went bye bye. So theplan was I was gonna look for an
(00:20):
older conversation that Jason I had.I'm gonna give you a little bit of
a backstory. It's three to thirtyin the morning. I really don't feel
like looking for it. So I'mjust gonna be honest with all of you.
Yeah, this is done in post. Podcast is all done and edited,
and I'm sitting and right in frontof it. So I don't know
(00:40):
what else to say. This isyour intro this week. You'll have a
better one next week, because inall honesty, anything's better than this right
now. So the music, greetings, and welcome to our show, fresh
(01:15):
key context. It is here. We're discussed in cycle of views on a
routine, bi weekly basis, overthe incredibly nerdy things we can't stop talking
about. To take you on thisdorky ride or your host, Josh,
it me and myself, Jason, why didn't you take a seat, Sit
back, relax, We're here todo all the heavy lifting. It is
about to get nerdy. This isepisode ninety nine, Part Juan. Welcome
(01:37):
back to the show. Everyone,Welcome back, Josh. We never actually
got to say Merry Christmas, HappyNew Year, Happy Kwanza, all of
the holiday things, all the things, and thank goodness, kiss twenty twenty.
Goodbye. It was a dumpster fire. It certainly was. Yeah,
we're never ever ever going to reviewtwenty twenty at all. We're just going
(02:02):
to unfortunately shutter every single time wehave twenty twenty flashbacks. So we are
looking ahead now. Can you havePTSD about a year? Yes? I
think that is because I think that'sa thing that I have. Yeah,
yeah, absolutely, it's an occurrence. I don't like it. I don't
like it. It's weird. Yeah, it is absolutely weird. But we've
(02:22):
been out for a little while, haven't we we Yeah, we've been We've
been busy doing things. We've beentreading water. Life occurs, Life does
occur, and I think this isthe longest hiatus that we've ever been in.
Right, excuse me, we're nothere. Were you not here at
the beginning of this? Right, you're right, you're right. If you're
(02:46):
right, you're all solid. Twomonths we were gone? Was it two
months? Two? Two to three? No? Way? Okay, you
know what riff for a moment,I'm gonna double check. I mean,
if if you are right, thenyou're right. But I you know,
this is the reason why we journal, because the therapeutic and we can look
back on these moments and say like, wow, look at all the things
(03:07):
I've ever come Yeah, definitely, and yeah, so sorry for everyone who's
listening, Oh that's fine. Imean I think it's just important. You
know, we talked a little bitabout this before, the importance of mental
health and your well being. Ithink getting sleep is important, but I
think drinking water is super important becauseif you're not doing those things, you
(03:30):
are going to dissolve physically, dissolveinto just nothingness. Yeah. So two
months. So our episode eighty sevencame out in March. March twenty seventh
of twenty twenty. Episode eighty eightcame out May eighteenth of twenty twenty.
(03:53):
Good lord, April. Nothing happenedin April? Then? No, we
didn't do anything in the April.UM I wrote like maybe two or three
articles you did roment that on thesite UM and we're not terrible. Okay,
here, we're about a month in. So our episode ninety eight,
Part two came out December eighth, and then we have not This is our
(04:14):
first episode back. So yeah, every hi, we're back. We're back
again. And so yeah, inour absence, you know, with the
holidays, because it's holidays, canrun a number on you if you let
it. Um, there's a lotof things that have happened. And you
know, this is the the podcastwhere we usually talk about one thing and
(04:34):
one thing only. Is it?Is it what I think it is?
I think it might be big.I mean it's the it's the it's the
D plus and company. It's nota thing. It's not this is not
okay. I mean we are PGpodcast, But you're insinuating. I'm just
(04:56):
saying the first letter of the companythat I like a lot. Fine,
it's Disney. That's it's what itis. I mean I was more pointing
to that. But you know too, I mean the people can't see what
you're pointing to. Josh is sittingI know, Josh is sitting on a
big, giant Marvel chair. Sothere I said it again. To me,
(05:18):
it's not just a Marvel chair.Okay, it is a it's a
Marvel Marvel chair. It's a spiderMan chair. It is a spider Man
chair. Now that I see theI see the logo, now that you've
gotten out of the seat. Yes, one of these days it is my
gaming spider Man chair. Yeah. One of these days, Um, we're
(05:40):
going to do a video podcast andthen we can really talk about how weird
things can can get. But thatwill be on the docket one of these
days. So yeah, a lotof things have happened, right, So,
I mean we finished the year,we we survived, we did.
You're I think in good spirits.I think I'm in good spirits. Um.
I actually I got a PS five. Yes you did. I did
(06:02):
get a PS five. That's whatI talked about this. We didn't well
didn't. We didn't talk about thison podcast. We talked about this off
off the podcast, right, Butyes, you finally got one. Yes
for you. Noah also got oneepisodes he was thrilled by with thrills and
I was able to play Males Morales, amongst other things. Astra's playroom was
(06:25):
really good. I would actually loveto discuss that with you, um in
one of our subsequent episodes. Ifeel, I feel like, what we'll
do you guys. Okay, soI discussed when I got my PS five.
The thing with me though, isI played Miles Morales. I beat
the story, but then I kindof shelved the PS five for a little
bit, mainly because I was tryingto get to my hundred platinum goal,
(06:48):
which I did reach, by theway, Hey congratulations, um. But
so I went back to my PSfour to finish those games off to get
the hundred platinum. Um. Sonow I'm truly into the PS five where
I'm going through everything. I'm lookingthrough everything. I'm playing Assassin's Creed now.
So now that I'm starting to graspthe PS five more, and we
(07:10):
kind of we're on a chat theother day on the PS five, so
we kind of figured out how theparty system worked, how the SharePlay work,
and all that stuff. So nowthat we're kind of getting into it
a little bit more, we're probablygoing to give ourselves a little bit more
time just to like view everything andthen we'll come back and talk about it.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. I'm really really looking forward to
that. So I'm actually thrilled withthe system, it overperformed in some instances.
(07:34):
There are some things I don't like, a lot of user interface stuff
I'm assuming right, Yeah, mysystem crashed a couple of times. But
interesting, Yeah, it did crasha couple of times, like the application
or the actual system. I thinkboth, be honest with you, because
I've had Assassin's Creed crash on meonce. Yeah, but not the whole
(07:56):
system, just the game. Yeah. Yeah, And so like, we
could talk about this for hours, and this is not going to be that
episode. There are some things thatwe do need to discuss m when we
have to stay on point, ontask. So we will definitely be talking
about gaming, um, and Iguess a new invigorating type of way because
(08:20):
I've always held a passive kind ofyou know, I guess take on you
know, social gaming. I justnever really you know, got behind it.
But I think I am very excitedfor some of the games that are
gonna be coming out soon. Soyes, that is the next time.
Today though, today though, weare talking about very old news, not
(08:41):
fake news, not new news, old news, and I feel like for
the most fun news, it's stillfun news. We always talk about new
news, but whenever we post itbecomes old news. So we're always like
you know, John Oliver, wherewe talk about last week tonight. So
you know, this one is actuallyposted from the Verge. It's the fifty
(09:03):
two things that Disney just announced willpreviously announced at this point. This was
posted on December tenth, so byno means is this new information. But
you know, I enjoyed doing thisshow with you. Josh and I kind
of talked about a lot of thestuff, but we really never had a
chance to really unhash it. Soagain it was just more talking of you
(09:26):
and I offline, offline exactly. So you know, now we want to
share it with all of you exactly, and you know, and for some
people it might be new information. If it is, we're glad. For
others, you know, we're revisitingan older topic and our thoughts on it.
(09:46):
So here it says Disney just madea deluge of announcements. Is twenty
twenty Investor Day, including updates onnew Marvel, Star Wars and Disney Animation
studio projects, as well as updateson Disney Plus and other Disney streaming services.
And just to go through the list, Marvel Disney Plus series is something
that Kevin Figi has been talking aboutfor a while. Kevin Figi is the
(10:09):
president of Marvel Studios and just MarvelEntertainment just in general. We love the
work that he does. Though obviouslywhen he gets on stage and he starts
firing off titles, we pay attention. Is we're gonna listen. And we've
been waiting for this. I mean, this was something a point of contention
for all of twenty twenty, becausetwenty twenty actually turned out to be the
(10:31):
year very much like two thousand ninewhere we didn't get any information. The
difference was is that two thousand nine, Marvel Studios was a twinkle in only
a select people's eye. No onereally knew what to expect. You know.
But when you've been like spoon feedingus, you know, three movies
a year, all making over abillion dollars, you know you stopped making
(10:56):
those movies because of a pandemic. We notice, really noticed. So you
know, this year we're going tobe over I don't want to say overloaded,
but we're gonna have plentiful serving ofMarvel content, starting with one division,
the first Marvel Studios Joe coming outon Disney Plus. At this moment,
by the time you hear this,it will be coming out later that
(11:18):
week. So January fifteenth is whenthat's going to be coming out. Stwaight
and we already and it's been confirmedsince then. The January fifteenth to day
released. There will be two episodesthat come out, two episodes, so
and the two episodes will both bethirty minute teach that's gonna be amazing.
(11:41):
I'm looking forward to it, Ireally am. Yeah, nine episodes long,
so this is gonna be something that'sgonna definitely be holding us over absolutely.
The next thing that was announced wasFalcon Intowards Your Soldier also finally got
a full trailer. You can seethat on Disney Plus. You can see
that on YouTube, on Twitter, and all the social media platforms. Along
(12:01):
with a March release date, wealso finally got a much longer look First
Look at Loki, is highly anticipatedshort series based on Tom Hilston's Got a
Mischief character show, also got aMay twenty twenty one release date. Can
I just say yes, Tom Hilestonhas ruined the character of Loki for me
indefinitely. Why ruined it in away where I can only see his version
(12:26):
of Loki in Norse mythology. Now, oh yeah, because spoilers for God
of War twenty eighteen, right, yes, spoilers for God of War twenty
eighteen. Yeah. With the program, Guystreus Kratus's son has been reeled to
be Loki. Yeah, yeah, and acts nothing like Tom Hidleston, but
(12:46):
he's low key. Right. Also, I am playing God, I'm playing
Assassas Creek Valhalla, which is basedon Norse mythology. You do run into
a Loki at one point and heacts nothing like Tom Hileston. Yeah,
So I'm like, I just wantevery version of Loki to be domitles did.
Now he's got staying power. Iwill say that exactly. So he's
(13:07):
ruined Loki, but at the sametime, it's like still dig him.
So yeah. So after that,we also have Hawkeye premiering a Disney Plus
in late fall twenty twenty one.The studio has also confirmed that Hallie Steinfield
we'll be appearing in the series, which was something that we kind of knew
was going to happen, but weweren't. We kind of knew because we
did talk on the last episode aboutthe set photos of her being on there
(13:30):
and stuff like that, so itwas kind of confirmed there, but it
is officially confirmed by Disney now atthis point. So finally, finally,
so we got full confirmation on thatfull confirmation, but we didn't actually see
any footage or anything like that, but we did see a buttload of set
photos and whatnot. So looks good. I'm looking forward to it. Cannot
(13:52):
wait. What If, an animatedseries by Marvel Studios that features the voice
acting cast of many Marvel Cinematic Universestars, also got a new trailer that
offered a first look at the upcomingseries Jeffrey Dean as you know, WATTU.
I'm so excited for this. I'mvery much excited for this. We'll
(14:13):
talk about this in a few aswell. Um, but it is also
going to be sadly, um,the last time that we hear it.
Don't do it right, Yeah, don't do it last time. If I
have to, I have to,it will be the last time that we
hear Chadwick Boseman reprises roles to Challa. Yeah, series, that's gonna be
tough. That's gonna be tough.Gonna watch um yeah, yeah, we're
(14:39):
gonna be obviously talking about this andin subsequent episodes. So yeah, uh
Fight. He also announced three newseries coming to Disney, plus Ironheart,
set to star Dominique Thorne, engineeringProjejetry Williams. Yeah, with arm Awards
coming up to which examines one ofTony Stark's biggest fears and starts Don Cheetle,
which reprising his role as Colone JamesRoodie Rhodes. And Secret Invasion,
(15:03):
the previously rumored Nick Eery led seriesthat we'll see Samuel Jackson Pris's role Shield
Director alongside Ben Mendelssohn Skulls, ShapeShifter. Tell Us no release state for
the new projects were announced. Now, I gotta be honest with you,
this is a lot of information,a lot of information. I don't even
know if we're gonna be able totalk about all of this. But out
(15:26):
of the three, we got oneDivision Falcon, Winter Soldier and the first
look at Loki. That's the onesthat were announced and was given like footage,
actual footage trailer. Ye. Outof all of them, I'm very
excited for all of them, allof them, but I have watched the
Loki trailer the most. Yeah,Okay, interesting, That's where I am
(15:48):
right now. I'm very much excitedfor one division I am ready for this.
I have so many questions based onthe two trailers that I've seen,
because you know how I usually dowhen it comes to Marvel stuff. I
always watched the teaser trailer and thenI watched the regular trailer and then I
stopped. So because it's a TVseries, I don't know exactly how this
is gonna work. So it's weird. It's really weird. Also, side
(16:14):
note, Legends came out Marvel Studiosis released on Disney Plus actually today as
this recording. I don't know ifyou've seen it yet, not see it,
No, I didn't know when itwas releasing. Yeah, it's released
today. And the first two episodesare about maybe seven minutes long, and
it what it does. It kindof recaps the story so far with the
(16:36):
characters that they were presenting anything. So the first episode that talks about Wanda
and the second episode talks about Vision, and you know, you have to
watch it, and just just ashort review of it because you're not really
giving anything away, is that itreally crafts the full story in such a
way where you kind of look atit a little bit differently. You see
(16:57):
the losses in a very short segmentabout you know, what it is that
she's dealing with and what it isthat she has to look forward to now,
you know, after the events ofEnding Right. I want to say
Vision was probably the better presentation ofit all because for his story, it
(17:19):
dates all the way back to IronMan one, and it's not something that
I was prepared to think about. He was Jarvis, and he started out
as that, and then he transformed, you know, with all the science
magicary that you can just kind ofput together, became not Ultron, but
(17:41):
which was who he was supposed tobe, the new body of Ultron,
but he became Vision. So itwas interesting to see his story and how
they crafted you know, a sevenminute you know, I guess summary if
you will of his character. SoI'm interested. I'm so on board with
this. But with all the thingsthat I've seen from one the Vision,
(18:03):
I've seen Falcon in the Winter Soldiermultiple times. But Loki has my attention.
And I wasn't a lokey fan before, but I am now. I
definitely am now. And you knowthe new series that I just mentioned,
Ironheart, Army Wars and Secret Invasion. I'm almost speechless. I don't even
(18:23):
know how to react to that. That's just a weird It's awesome, but
it's weird, right, it's weird. You got Samuel Jackson coming in for
a movie, and years ago,I don't know if you remember this,
but Samuel Jackson was supposed to havehis own movie. Yeah, I remember
that. I think it was supposedto be at the end of Phase one
(18:44):
around Avengers. That never happened. Then they were talking about it for Phase
two and then it just kind ofjust faded away into nothingness. But it
was supposed to be Nick Fury andthe Agents of Shields. Obviously, after
a Phase one ended, that's whenthe Agents of Shield TV show came in,
where Samuel Jackson did appear twice Ithink from the appeared in the premiere
(19:08):
and I think in the season finale, right, And while it was awesome
to see him there, it didn'tfeel the same. I kind of always
wanted to get a movie featuring SamuelJackson is Nick Fury and you know the
Shield, like doing spy stuff.Yeah, and never got that. And
(19:30):
consequently, we were all supposed toget a rumored It wasn't as rumored as
much as a Nick Fury movie, but we were supposed to also get a
war Machine movie, which was somethingagain that was talked about. It was
rumored for years and it kind ofjust faded away. And after Phase three
I was resigned and thought that wewere just gonna be done with it.
But I think this is awesome, dude, I mean it's so awesome.
(19:55):
Yeah, Armor Wars, we're gettingdown to the back. We're getting Samuel
Deckson in the series. And forSecret Invasion, I can only imagine the
madness that's going to be happening. And what I and what pretty much the
trailers that we've seen of one division, the trailer for Fucking Winner Soldier,
the trailer for Loki, it doesn'tfeel like a TV show. It doesn't
(20:19):
like and and this is something thatthey've said from the beginning. They said
that we are going to take thesame amount of care, the same amount,
same approach that we do to makinga movie that we are doing for
these Disney Plus shows. Right, and when you watch, when I watch
that trailer for fucking and Win YourSoldier, I'm like, this is not
(20:41):
this. This doesn't feel like aTV show, right, It feels like
a movie, right. And andyou know that feeling right, Like you
watch a TV you watch, youwatch a trailer for a TV show,
you're like, you can tell.I'm like, oh, this is a
TV show, dude. Because ofthe way that shot. Because we've discussed
this so many times exactly, inHumans felt really cheap. Yes, it
(21:03):
felt really disingenuous. And the waythey marketed the crap out of it.
Yeah, it was a two hourpremiere. It was the first two episodes
they were premiering in imax, andit just even in those moments when they
were announcing that, it felt empty. I wanted it to be more and
I never got to see it becauseI think the release only went to a
(21:26):
certain amount of theaters, so itnever was released around me. And then
I remember watching the first fifteen minutesof In Humans and I just said,
something's off. I can't put myfinger on it, but it doesn't feel
authentic. Agents of Shield. Whileit was a good show, while it
is popular, it were parts missingand it always felt felt like a like
(21:51):
a show. It felt it feltlike I was watching a CW show.
Right, Well, I don't wantto disrespect Agents of Shield like that.
It didn't feel like a CWY.Hey listening, Arrow and Flash, they're
good shows. So it is legendedtomorrow, um early okay, umge this
but anyway, this is where we'retalking about about this DC representation anyway.
(22:15):
So yeah, but like that's thebiggest thing, Like these do not feel
like TV shows. They feel likethey were shot for film that just happened
to be coming out on Disney Plus, right, which is I'm excited or
three hour long movies that are splitup in two segments that you just get
three hour or seven hours or sevenhours, So it depends on the show.
(22:37):
Yeah, yeah, it's I don'tI really don't think we have the
time to really talk about this, which is actually kind of good because we
can actually revisit this, uh youknow, and we're going to be we're
going we're definitely gonna be talking aboutall of these shows when they come out.
Of course, I mean we can'tforget that. There was also Moon
Night that was announced just today, was actually confirmed that Oscar Isaac is to
(23:00):
be actually starring in it. Beforeit was just well no, it was
always rumored like Charlie Steinfeld and youknow, she Hulk speaking of Sheet Hulk,
Yeah, exactly. So the lastepisode we kind of mentioned a few
moments Ago came out on December eighth. I think we recorded it maybe two
days before. So let's say werecorded December six or something, right,
(23:22):
and we were talking about her notbeing casted. He had just posted something.
No, no, no, shewas in an interview for somebody asked
the question. She was like, yeah, I don't know where that rumor
actually started. No one ever askedme anything exactly, So we were like
you. A few days later,it's confirmed that she confirmed Jennifer Walter.
(23:45):
So yeah, so you know,Moon Night was announced, She Hulk was
announced, Miss Marvel was announced,Mark Ruffalo is coming back, and she
Hulk, but exactly, Miss Marvelis going to start iman Velani, which
was announced before. But now thateverything is, you know, being presented
for Invested Day, Yeah, youknow, it's confirmed, and we actually
(24:07):
got behind the scenes. Who aresome of the shots that were filmed for
the show. I don't know, man, it there's just so much content.
I can't be mad at any ofit. Like for me to say,
like I'm excited for Falcon and WinterSoldier and Loki and but I'm not
excited for Miss Marvel, it wouldbe just weird, you know, Like
I'm excited for everything that I'm excitedfor everything that you give me. At
(24:30):
this point, I had not beenupset, even Captain Marrow. It's a
weird movie to me to this day, but I still love it. I
still love it. I'm allowed tolove the things that I find weird that
I don't initially accept. Something cangrow on me over time. So it's
true. It's it's just it's it'sawesome, dude. There's just so much
(24:51):
stuff that's out there up. There'salso Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special that's
coming out in twenty twenty two, which is also being directed by James Gunns.
M Volne three is also supposed tobe coming out of the following year
in twenty twenty three, and Iam Groute series of shorts film starring group,
(25:12):
So I'm imagining that's going to bethe live action route, would assume
quote unquote live action side notes,Black Panther two was talked about, and
they talked about how they will notrecast the role because of the late Chadwick
Boseman um. The film is stillbeing directed by Ryan Kogler and it's set
(25:37):
to be developed in July of twentytwenty two. So if they're pushing forward
and they announced that, that meansthat they have a story that they feel
confident, right, so correct,I am always going to have mixed feelings
with that. I don't think thatI'm ever going to feel okay with any
of the decisions that they make. But still I'm sure. I'm sure that
(26:00):
what they have is what they feelis the best that they can do,
right. So, I mean,I trust Ryan Coogler, I trust Kevin
Figy, so I think they bothThey're both smart people, so I feel
like they know what is what's best. Right. Third A Man film was
announced as well, Aunt Man andthe Wasp on to Mania. Do these
(26:23):
people just put quantum in front ofeverything? I think they do? I
think they do. Um. It'sjust it's it's been annest to me.
Everyone's coming by Michael Douglas, EvangelineLily, Paul Rudd, Michelle Peiffer.
Um. It's also going to introduceJonathan Majors as King the Conqueror. I
cannot wait to see this. Icannot wait Doctor Strange, And I'm getting
(26:48):
tired announcing all of these films andwe haven't even gone to the other things.
This is just Marvel. This isjust Marvel stuff. We're not going
to get into the Star Wars stuff. We're not even gonna get to Disney
animation stuff. We're gonna save thatfor another episode because you know, we
we we're not going to be herefor a few hours. We're just not
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of manaswill tie both upcoming Land Division and Sony
(27:12):
and Marvel's third Spider Man movie together. The studio confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor
Stranger, will be appearing in stillthe unnamed Spider Man sequel. So also
also also the last thing that theytalked about. The last thing that they
talked about is Marvel Studios is developinga new Fantastic Four movie, and they
(27:34):
gave us a logo. They gaveus a logo and the man who did
Spider Man Homecoming and Far From Homewill also be directing the new Fantastic Four
movie, mister John Watts, exactly. So clearly Figy really enjoyed what he's
done with the three Spider Man filmsand he's like, have a crack at
(27:56):
the first family. Yeah, sowe did not get any announcements or casting,
you know, direction for who's actuallygoing to be in Mister Fantastic.
I feel like at this point, anybody besides John Krasinski or Emily Blunt,
(28:18):
I feel sorry for whoever they docast, because everyone's going to be disappointed
until they see the film. Obviouslyobviously, but I feel like everyone just
has them, has had them ontheir minds for these roles for so long
that if they don't cast them, which is a very good possibility that they
(28:38):
won't, it's also could possibly thatthey will. We'll see. But if
they don't get casted, there's gonnabe a slew of fans that are just
going to be immediately disappointed, likeimmediately. So I think back the New
Batman movie and how they had RobertPattinson in a screen test and everyone has
(29:03):
been like, you can't have aglitter vampire be the new Batman. And
everyone was just talking smack about itfor like, of course, for months
or months, and then you know, they showed the trailer and it's good.
Everyone everyone just shut up. Theywere like, all right, as
you know, I was a RobertPattinson fan since you know after the Twilight
(29:26):
movies, No you weren't, Soyou know what's funny we'll move on here
in a second. But that momentactually happened to me about a week ago.
So I was at work and wewere just on lunch break and we
were talking and it came up wherea friend of mine just learned that rob
(29:47):
he doesn't like keep up with everything, so he'll learn things that is on
pace or whatever. Right, He'snot like us, let's seek it out
or anything, right, And heand he was talking about like, oh
yeah, Robert Pattinson being batman, like I can't see that, blah blah
blah. And we were like, wait, have you not seen the trailer
yet? He's like, no,absolutely not, and I'm like, come
here, and we played it andright after that trailer, obviously you know
(30:10):
the moment where he goes the beatdown. Yeah, right after that trailer,
he goes, all right, wellI kind of want to see that
now, and I'm like, see, give it a minute, just get
so I feel like, guess whatJohn Wats would have to do with the
Fantastic for movie. They would haveto cast both, you know, mister
Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, andwell no, no, just those two,
(30:32):
because I think that's what everybody islike hooked waiting for exactly. So
when you do a screen test withboth of them interacting with one another,
then if it's not John Konsiski andEmily Bloods, then that screen test will
be able to stand by itself onits own exactly. So let's hope,
man, I mean, I mean, do you want do you want those
two to be? I do?I really really do. I mean there's
(30:56):
a part of me that kind ofhopes so too, just because it's like
I've seen so many concept arts,I've seen so many people say it,
and I'm like, well, we'rekind of cool to see them because I'm
a fan of Emily Blunt. Likethey're both married exactly, so the chemistry
is already going to be there, and it's like, like it would be
perfect. But John was supposed tobe Captain America. I'm so glad that
(31:21):
we got Chris Evans. I'm soglad he did such like he is Captain
America as far as I'm concerned, exactly, And I'm happy that you know,
Anti Mackie as Sam is going tobe the new Captain America. But
like I'm not saying he's replacing him. He got Chris Evans yea, and
(31:44):
now we're getting Antony Mackie. I'mglad. I'm truly glad, but I
really want to see John Kins thisgame in a superhero film. I do
fantastic and he does a good whichI know he will so under Kevin fag
yeah, I'm I'm like absolutely ready. Here's the thing I really think Figi's
(32:04):
like, listen, we had fourmovies, yes I'm even counting that one
from the nineteen nineties. We hadfour movies of trying to make this work.
This needs to work, so listen, you figure Kevin Figy has been
directing, not directing. He's beenproducing Marvel movies since the late nineties since
(32:25):
the first was he was he onthe lad he didn't do Blade. He
didn't do Blade. You can proveme wrong if you want, but I'm
very certain his first movie, Ibelieve you, but was X Men.
It might have been keep proving,Okay, so he think about it.
If X Men is his first moviethat he did, he had to get
(32:50):
up to that point. So thatmeans he, you know, pretty much
crafted you know, his career. That's why I thought so he was crafting
his entire career, wanting to developmovies to the big screen for a new
audience, for the New Age twothousands and beyond. Okay, so that
means he had to look at whatpreceded him, but preceded him. An
(33:16):
X Men was Laide was contested fourCaptain America, the Hulk TV show,
frieder Man of the TV show.I think they also did Iron Man and
Doctor Strange and four Yes, andall of that was just remarkably bad considering
I think the only thing that wasreally good for the time was Hulk.
(33:37):
So yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm pretty sure he took the Fantastic
Four Live action movie personally. Iwould take it personally if you know that
were Micraft. Yeah, so youknow, I'm I'm ready for it.
I'm really ready for it. I'mhoping that they're sure he had a conversation
(34:00):
with John because he too, soI wouldn't be surprised the topic of discussion.
The thing is with Kevin Figy, like he listens to fans, right
he does. Um, he dida Reddit m ama like a few was
it was it last year? Wasthe year before last year? Literally?
Yeah, it was definitely not lastyear at this point, but but m
(34:22):
yeah, he did an Ama askedme anything for whom those who don't know,
UM. So he talks to fans, He definitely does um and he
listens. So I would not besurprised if if they've had conversations about this
and about all that already had toYeah. Yeah, but that's all the
(34:45):
Marvel news that dropped. And likeI said, this, this is gonna
be a ton more that's gonna becoming up in the upcoming weeks. I'm
excited. There's there's a lot more. Um. I mean, there's ten
Star Wars things coming out and wehave to talk about them the Lord because
you finally watched them all. Youdid, I though, Yeah, I
mean, I'm I'm gonna say youdid. I'm glad that you did whatever
(35:07):
you could do. Let's just putit that way. I'm excited. I
watched the final episode of season two. You could have lied to me.
You lied to me, but Idon't like to lie to my friends,
so I appreciate you being honest andtrumping with me. But come on,
man, anyways, it's another storyfor another time. I'm so yeah.
(35:30):
Yeah. The Disney's doing a lot, He's doing a lot, and there's
gonna be so many more things. But we're gonna talk about and shift things
over to what they released on Decembertwenty fifth, slash Christmas. They released
a movie that was supposed to comeout in theaters and what November it was.
(35:50):
Yeah, so supposed to come outin November. They have since moved
it to Disney Plus and they didnot do what they did with Mulan.
Mulan, right, So, Mulan, you had to pay an additional what
was it thirty dollars say, thirtydollars for premiere access, for premiere access
to watch an AM purchase that allowedyou to access the film before other people
did. Correct, And it's nowout for everybody. And I get it.
(36:15):
I understand the principle of it.I'm not going to complain about it.
You know, I would have paidsomething close to that anyway, you
know, for me to watch iton a large screen under normal circumstances,
and I would have been okay withthat. Yeah. I also know that
the pandemic is difficult and people aren'tjust made of money, correct. I
(36:38):
understand the principle behind it. I'mnot going to complain about it. Yeah,
But I do think it's interesting thatonward as well as Soul. We're
both released directly to Disney Plus andwell on was onward? No, because
onward it wasn't words what it wasonly there for about a month. And
(37:01):
this was the month was literally beginningof the pandemic, because I bought it
on iTunes to watch it. Interesting, when did you buy it the day
that it came out? What monthwas that I was back in? I
want to say that was October.Oh no, this came out in April.
(37:27):
Dude, Oh my god? Wasit that long? Yeah? Hope,
please, yeah, I can.I can give you a definite,
definite answer here in a few moments. Nope, that's not that way,
um, keep riffing. No.I saw it in theaters, and I
remember watching it again when the pandemicwas beginning to take off. Um.
(37:51):
I I remember thinking to myself thatit's good that picture is doing it.
Um. But as a filmmaker,I'm imagining how challenging it is to just
make something that isn't presented in themanner that you were hoping for it to
be presented. Right. There wassomething that happened while we were on temporary
(38:14):
hiatus where Warner Brothers had announced thatall the films for this year. In
twenty twenty one would be released onHBO Max. Well, it's thrilling to
hear if you are a movie watcher. It is not so fun to hear
if you are somebody who's a filmmakerthat wants to present a movie for the
(38:38):
big screen. One of those moviesI'm looking forward to is you know,
Godzilla versus Kong. I have nodesire to watch that film on a small
screen. I want to see thatin a big screen. I want the
seats, I want the sound,I want the theater going experience. For
people who are saying that theaters arethe way out of them with the dinosaurs,
(39:01):
I just don't believe that. Idon't know, And I hope that
AMC stays afloats. I hope thebig theater chains and the small theater chains
I'll stay afloat. I'm just Idon't know if the theaters are going under.
The big names might go under, right, We'll see what happens.
(39:22):
We'll see what happens, but Iwill We'll see what happens. Yeah,
But I mean, I do wantto I want to go back to the
theater. I do too, AndI want everybody to be safe as well.
Absolutely, but I don't know ifwe shall see. So I purchased
(39:44):
on word. This took me foreverto find. I don't know why I
purchased on Word. March twenty twentyInteresting um release stay us And according to
Google, it came out March sickinteresting in theaters you mean? Yeah?
(40:05):
Yeah, so it came out thatsame month. Yeah, so it came
out literally like two weeks after that. You bought it even though it was
on Disney Plus, Freeman, Idon't think it came to Disney Plus in
March. When did it come toDisney Plus then? Isn't that crazy?
How much time passes? Don't evenrealize that's when I'm hold on Disney Plus.
(40:29):
It didn't come out to Disney Plusfor April, a month later.
Yeah, so I bought it andthen it came out to Disney Plus a
month later. Yeah. I justwaited because I had seen it in theaters
already, so by the time itcame out. Yeah, so I didn't
go to the theater to watch it, so I just bought it, gotcha.
Yeah. Yeah. Movie studios, actors, directors, we're all trying
(40:52):
to figure this out. So everymovie is going to be slightly different.
You know, Tenant have a limitedlease. I wanted to see them theaters
in September I was not able to. I just might the theaters that were
near me. It did not Theyweren't open, just for for simplicity's sake,
(41:14):
they just simply weren't open. Yeah. Um, But now we have
Soul and you know, I wasable to see that on Christmas Day.
I was very much interested in lookingforward to that. It has a lead
of Jamie Fox. Super talented JamieFox. He sings, he's a comedian.
(41:37):
Yeah, I mean he pretty muchhas it all. He does it
all. So seeing him in apictar review was something I was looking forward
to. And I liked it.I mean, we typically have the copy
system. I feel like, youknow, today we're I was going to
just do as Yeah, I likedit. I liked it a lot um.
(41:58):
I don't know if it's my favoritePiston movie, but I did very
much enjoy. When I say Ilike it a lot, I don't mean
it that way that other people do. Like it's like it just love it,
just raving about it. Like ifI like something it's good, it's
really really good. That's fair. What do you think. So, Okay,
let me preface by saying I likeit. Absolutely. It hit differently
(42:20):
for me this time around them.Okay, Um, is this gonna be
like a serious discussion. I thinkserious. This is one hundred percent give
you a serious discussion right now.Okay, all right, let's go.
Um And it hit differently because, like you said, Um, the reason
one of the reasons why we wereon a hiatus was just because everything that
was going on, and this kindof goes encompassing with my trophy hunting that
(42:49):
I was doing as well. Um, because I had recently played a game
which you were going to be playingsoon called Detroit Become Human. I just
I just downloaded that game. Yeah, and it's an old game, and
I've seen people play it before, like I'd watched the lets plays of it.
I've done everything. And you're gonnasee why this is important in a
(43:09):
second. So I knew the story. Like I wasn't playing it for the
story. I mean, yes Iwas, but I wasn't because I'd already
known how how it finishes, right, and I was getting all the trophies
anyway, So I just wanted toclear it as quickly as possible. However,
in playing it, there's a charactercalled Marcus and the whole theme of
(43:34):
the game, which you will getinto you'll see when it's when you finally
play it, and it's not aspoiler because it's just the theme. Essentially.
The theme is of self discovery. The theme is of how you feel
alive, how do you feel aboutbeing human? Where this is going and
those feelings that accompanies encompass you andthe am I doing this for the right
(44:00):
reasons and my pursuing life the waythat I need to? And Soul does
the same thing, right. Soulis like, Hey, it's not about
what you do per se, butit's about just living and living in that
moment and just feeling yourself right, being present and just taking the moment to
(44:25):
notice those little things around you.Like twenty two, the character that we
follow along with Jamie Fox's character Joe, and there's a moment where she is
just like just sitting down, justlooking at the trees. One of those
like little leaflets falls on her andshe's just just entrance in that moment,
(44:47):
like she's not doing anything, butthis is the first time she's living.
Yeah, And it just hits sohard and just playing that game and then
seeing the and then you know, just my own internal mental struggles that I
got going up over here, itjust hit a lot harder, and I
was like, yeah, I justI just need to lift. Essentially,
(45:12):
I just need to appreciate all thelittle things that are happening around me.
Yeah. Yeah, I liked it. Yeah, I liked it. I
think that's in that description. I'mstarting to struggle with what trailers do because
trailers in the age of social mediaand the age of smart viewers. Yeah,
(45:39):
I think if you give too muchof the story, so we're just
going to start becoming predictable. Whenyou have a formula to how movies are
made, people are pretty quick tounderstand what's going on. That's challenging,
absolutely challenging. And I think, you know, based on what was the
last Star Wars movie, people justtried to figure out what was going to
(46:01):
happen, and you typically are right, and what happens when you're right,
it kind of lose it. Itdoesn't feel the same right guys. You
you know, because now you're expectingexactly what you kind of sought out,
and once you get exactly what yousought out, you're just like, oh,
(46:22):
well, I hope there was more. It's like, well, for
the most part, yeah, butthat's yeah, that's I think that's what
I'm trying to say. Yeah,So you know, I'll say this when
watching the movie, it absolutely hitme. Yeah, twenty twenty was challenging
for again, for many many people, devastating for some others. Yeah,
(46:46):
I'm not going to compare my griefto them, but it hasn't been easy,
I will say that. So Ithink I think Soul was more of
I won't even say surface value,because it whenever I see a movie.
I think we discussed this a littlebit when we were talking about Bill and
(47:08):
Ted. I was just happy tosee something new, right. It felt
to me that life was still happeningto see something new, And it's bonkers
to me that that was something Ididn't even realize that would make me,
I guess overjoyed, right, thatsomething that I love and appreciate was still
(47:35):
being created, still being made.Though you know, I had a visceral
reaction for all movies Bill and Tedthree, But I mean it didn't hit
me in the fields and all thatstuff. You know, Bill and Ted
getting old and they're getting tired, and you know, they have children now
that they are responsible for, butthey still are inundated by their own mistakes.
(47:55):
So you know, they too, they always know how to do.
You know, they tried the best, but now they actually have people that
are working along with them. Soyeah, I enjoyed that. I enjoyed
that that whole part watching Soul wasalong in the same vein. I enjoyed
(48:15):
that because again it was something new. The visual art was just you know,
crazy to me. You know, the story was something that I I
didn't grapple with it. I identifiedwith it more than anything. And then
you know, there's the story beatsthat typically happened in a Pixar movie,
(48:37):
which are way more emotionally driven thana typical movie. They're not driven by
you know, a counting down clock. They're not driven by impending earth doom
like most superhero movies. It's drivenby intern personal beings. So when Joe
(48:58):
was having a conversation with his motherwas played by Felicia Rashad, that really
hit home with me because I rememberhaving conversations like that with my parents,
So it hit me there. Butabsolutely, when you know twenty two was
just started enjoying living and she's beingpresent in these moments and all of the
(49:21):
things that she collected, the thelollipop and you know, the leaf,
and you know the part of thebagel passions. I identified with that.
I really absolutely identified with that, you know, both with the character and
the fact that they were able tocreate this and to complete this movie in
(49:45):
such a your moment in life whereI don't know if you had seen the
behind the scenes, but there's awhole segment that talks about how when they
were pretty much starting to wrap upthis movie, the pandemic hit. You
know, Pixar, the way thatthey make movies is very much hands on.
(50:08):
You know, you must be inthe offices. They're all, you
know, communicating and interacting with people, and when the pandemic hit, they
shut down the offices. So theywere talking about the technical hurdles about like
how people can bring their computers home, but that theater is a portal to
their servers and they had made thesestrides to allow that to happen where they
(50:34):
could work from home. So butif they didn't invest in that technology,
then we wouldn't be sitting down talkingabout, you know, this wonderful movie
going stay at home experience that we'veexperienced. So you know, all those
people were plagued with the same problemsthat you and I were played with.
It was humbling for me to seethat. You know, they're on zoom
(50:58):
calls talking with other you know, animators and actors and producers and directors and
musicians and composers and you know, the entire you know, filmmaking team,
and doc comes in and starts makingnoise like yeah, it's yeah, I've
been there. Normal people. They'renormal people. They're normal people. So
(51:21):
even that was humbling from me tosee as it was just a really fun
it was like I had like Ilaughed a lot. Um. It was
funny too because as you know,as the movies going and we're introduced to
Jerry and Jerry and Jerry and TerryI love, so we typically reserve a
(51:45):
cubby to talk about the performance.Yeah, Terry, So do you know
who Terry is played by? Terryis played by Rachel House. Yes,
Rachel House for those that I don'tknow, plays the character who's the assistant
for Jeff Goldblum and Thori Rack androck Yep. And I just love her
(52:06):
voice. Yeah, it's such avery syrupy type of Australian accent. I
love Australian accents. They're so they'regreat, They're great. I can't imitate
them, even though how how hardI try. The Australian ohs are what
gets them the most because I don'tknow how they're moving their palette inside their
(52:27):
mouths, their tongue to make thatAustralian oh. And I have studied it
and I'm like, I don't knowif I had the Yeah, I listened
to so a lot of Pierce. If you don't know who she is,
um, she's she was a gamingjournal one list. Now she works for
Sony Santa Monica Studios, so she'sa writer there. Um, but she
(52:47):
has tons of podcasts and she wason a GM and all this stuff.
So I've been listening to her. She's Australian. I've been listening to her
for years, and I think Iknow how to do an Australian accent.
I don't, but I think Ido because I listened to her so much.
Um, Yeah, I have noidea. But there were two other
voices that I recognize almost immediately, and I was very happy to hear their
(53:10):
voices. Yeah, we have alasBraga as one of the counselor's Jerry's and
then my personal favorite, freaking Richard. How do you say his last name?
I think so yeah, so richA ka Morris from the IT crowd.
Yes, when I heard his voice, so I was like, like,
(53:32):
I know him. I was sohappy to hear his voice, and
the sublevision the same way. LeonDiCaprio points in that meme for a lot
of time in Holly, I don'tI know that one. Yeah, I
was so happy to hear his voice. I was like, oh, that's
great that they got him such adeliciously nasal voice that is undeniably is it's
(53:55):
so good like you. The secondhe spoke, I was like, that
is like, there's no denying he'sso good. I love him. Yeah,
he's hilarious. Yeah he's he's great. And you know they always pick
A listers. I consider him tobe an a lister. So yeah.
And then of course Graham Norton wasfreaking Moonwind. Yes, he was great.
(54:22):
Freaking Donald Rawlings was Deaz the barber. Yep, he was great.
The whole barber scene was great. That whole barbar scene was fantastic. It
was just such a very authentic experience, very authentic experience, and then again
going into that deep part where he'slike, yeah, you just never talk
to me about that, like younever just asked me, right, And
(54:43):
it was just like, oh crap, Like what happens when you just ask
someone? You get to know asksomebody a question, you get to know
them infinitely better. Right. Littlethings like that sprinkled prout throughout. Yeah.
I mean there's always going to bethings to nitpick and complain about out
and things and saying that people don'tlike. But to me, the things
(55:04):
that are better are better for me. Yeah, for sure, I enjoyed
the movie. I absolutely enjoyed themovie. Yeah, it was a lot
of fun. That It's there's there'sa whole bunch of Pixar movies that I
will go back and watch, youknow, just because you know they're so
good. I think there's gonna beone of those like that I will consistently
watch, Like like it's gonna Idon't think it's gonna be like Wally levels
(55:24):
or Toy Story levels of watching overI don't think. I don't think it
has to be either, No,but it's definitely gonna be one that I
will go back to Like, Ihaven't visited Onward since since I watched it.
I will probably visit this again beforeI would visit Onward. Honestly,
that's fair. So I noticed somethingand I don't know if I'm wrong.
I need to double check it again. But when it comes to Pixar movies,
(55:47):
how they present their movies has alwaysbeen very interesting to me because when
we go to toy Story that happensin Andy's room, right, and we
don't really know where it's actually takingplace. We can kind of guess that
they may be in California, butwe don't really know. We don't know.
(56:10):
I know where you're going with usyet, right, Incredible happens in
a metropolitan kind of city, butwe get an idea of the time frame,
but we still don't know where it'slocated. Yeah, correct, cars,
I don't think happens anywhere. Wekind of know that it happens along
like the West Coast, you know, Pacific. You know they have like
the Mountaine area like they So isn'tit like near the Grand Canyon or whatever
(56:36):
it can be? But it's notexplicitly stated. It's also after the apocalypse
and everyone has died and everyone's startedinto cars. Anyone, let's not getting
into the Pixar fhere. Okay, okay, okay. So there is Finding
the Amo, which does take placein Sydney, but you don't spend a
lot of time. Yeah, mostof that stuff is happening on the water
(56:58):
right, Monsters Zinc takes place ina fictional world. Gratitude. It does
take place in Paris. So theamount of times where you see actual,
physical, real locations that people cansee is rare, and so actually happens
to be in that place where they'rereally leaning on, like these are real
(57:20):
places that people actually go to,and it was something that I noticed.
Yeah, and I don't know ifthat has something to do with the person
like the black experience, and likethese are the places where people live,
These are the barbershops that you govisit. At times, it does feel
like a fictional city, but theydo make references to real life cities,
(57:42):
which I don't think is it hasn'thappened often. No, it doesn't happen
often. No, I don't thinkso. But yeah, the way that
they use you know, New Yorkin this made me miss home. I
agree, I absolutely sure. Ialso forgot Toku happens in Mexico, but
(58:04):
again not something not a specific place, yeah, not like a not a
set area like New York, Likelike this is literally Manhattan, New York
City, right, And at timesI thought it was Chicago, but I
was wrong. But there's also whydid you think it was? When I
was looking at the city scape,it's not the New York city scape.
(58:25):
So it's fine from above they do. Yeah, and when they got into
some point, like I knew exactlywhere it was. Um, but I'm
also thinking of what's the other movie, inside Out that takes place in San
Francisco. Yes, yeah, butbesides that, I think that's Yeah,
they don't. They don't usually discloseexactly where something is. Yeah, up,
(58:47):
was this a regular city? Uhyeah yeah, yeah, I don't
think Christ two. Yeah, butnever that is that is in the bottom
of the Pixar lifts. That's thevery bottom of the Pixar list. Yea,
um, but yeah, I meanagain, the movie was great,
and then I really enjoyed the musicof it too, Like I'm not so
(59:12):
I'm not a big jazz person perse, but the way that it's portrayed
here, Yeah, you can feelthe music. You can definitely feel the
music. And especially yeah, andespecially when he you know, like they
portrayed the movie, when he getsin the zone, like he just goes
off the very first time he hasthe rehearsal Um, it's yeah, it's
just like that sounds just really incredible. So I just love the way that
(59:36):
they incorporated music into this for sure. I have to say, I really
always enjoy how Pixar understands like thehuman experience, like they had this.
They have this way of taking thesereally complex, you know, human elements
that we've all kind of experienced orhave noticed that somebody has experienced, and
(59:57):
they make it such a playful waitfor it to be received by kids and
children. So there's a scene whereexactly so there's a scene where you know,
Joe is in his I guess hisspirit form, and he follows twenty
two into this area where they beatthese dark creatures that are obsessive driven by
(01:00:22):
anxiety, and Moonwin comes in withthese other you know, sage like spirits
and they're just helping them get backand realize themselves. So they do this
cleansing thing. I'm not exactly sureI understand fully what it is that they
did, but they were able towake the spirit up and realize that he's
(01:00:46):
in this obsessive state, and hehas the opportunity to jump back into his
body and realize his I guess, his surroundings. Yeah, and so this
is moment where the spirit kind oflands back in his body and it's just
like, what back am I doing? Kenny completely clears at his desk,
making a mess and screaming like, you guys could be free, you can
(01:01:08):
move on and you can do anything. So I hope he hasn't awakening.
I hope he you know, hisseshis family and just realized that there is
mortal life man for sure, youknow, pushing papers and making copies or
(01:01:29):
yeah, I think this rude somethingreally important to living in life. Yeah,
and in twenty twenty, I thinkthat's more relevant than ever exactly,
which is which is why I thinkthat this movie will hit for a lot
of people. Absolutely. So ifyou have not given Solo chance, definitely
do it because it is so good. Yeah. Um, I love the
(01:01:51):
movie. I love There were alot of other scenes that I really enjoyed.
One of them was the scene whereJoe finally gets to perform yeah,
like you can. I don't knowhow to explain it, but it's almost
felt as though I was there andI was like front row for a seat,
(01:02:13):
and you can feel that experience. But when Joe leaves and he said
he imagined that it would feel different. Yeah, I don't know. I
identify with that movie more than Ithink I cared to admit. So question,
did I read this wrong? Sodid he take that second chance that
(01:02:37):
they gave him? Yes, sohe went back to Earth yea at the
end of the movie. I agree, Yeah, I think he did,
because I feel like he chose notto. What makes you think that,
I don't know, Like I thinkthe way that it was just shot because
(01:02:59):
because essentially shoot, so Jerry says, hey, we've decided to give you
another chance, blah blah blah.We don't see him walk through though.
Yeah, I don't know. Iwant to say that he did, but
he just wanted to do more living. I don't think he was bent on
(01:03:19):
becoming the musician, right. Ithink maybe he took I don't know.
I get the impression that he wasgoing to take the teaching job because he
was going to be able to helpkids live right exactly, I think that's
the impression that I got. ButI wonder, um, where did it
(01:03:39):
end? Like, am I amI misremembering that ending? I don't think
so. Um, But I thinkthose movies are edited in such a way
where you're allowed to have that freedomto kind of go sure, I don't.
I don't know. Maybe maybe Iread to that wrong, but no,
(01:04:01):
I don't think you right into itnow. And then I thought they
were going to do something predictable aswell. I'm kind of glad that they
didn't do this, honestly, butI think that they were going I thought
that they were gonna have um twentytwo like when she goes to live.
I thought that they were gonna haveher be like, you know, his
future daughter or something like that.I'm glad they didn't show anything of that
(01:04:25):
nature because I would have been alittle bit too on the nose. Do
you think you know? Yeah,I don't think they were going to do
that, but I think because theykept because they kept hinting at Lisa,
like the girl, like the girlthat he's talking to or whatever, and
like throughout the movie they're like,Oh, you should talk to Lisa,
blah blah blah, and I thoughtwe were going to get like a jump
cut to like him and Lisa togetherand then like they have a baby and
(01:04:47):
then the babies like twenty two orsomething. I'm glad they didn't do that.
I'm very very happy they didn't dothat, because that would have been
a little bit too on the nose. But in this way, you know,
twenty two become her own person. So so he he talks to Jerry,
(01:05:10):
Jerry and he or he, wedon't really know. It's kind of
like neutral. Um, I thinkit's supposed to be that way, right.
They asked what do you think you'lldo? And there's this moment where
he begins stepping to the portal, but then it cuts yeah, stepping out.
(01:05:30):
So I don't see why he wouldlike change his mind last minute.
That would just be misleading. Okay, oh no, he does go back
to his body. Yeah, ohyeah, because at the very end he's
he's stepping out the door. Butthere, I mean, there are moments
where he has flashbacks. But I'mled to believe that he did step through
with the portal. Yeah, okay, yeah, it made a way,
(01:05:55):
But I don't think he's going toobsess with needing to be part of the
band, and he's going to gethis big break, and life is going
to as soon as that big breakhappens. I think that's the important part.
I think he's just gonna enjoy livinghis life and playing music as a
passion. But absolutely, Okay,so yeah, I didn't misremember that part.
(01:06:16):
But that's interesting. That's interesting thatyou that you picked up on that
moment of ambiguity. Yeah. Ithink because because I took it. As
you know, he gets into thezone so he can go back to see
twenty two and all that. ButI was also thinking that of that moment
as like, hey, I reachedmy goal. It wasn't what I thought
(01:06:39):
it was going to feel like.So I feel like exactly like I'm not.
He's not like done with life, like he's whatever, Like he's done
everything he wanted to do, buthe excepted the full life exactly that he
accepted that he lived a full lifeand that yeah, maybe I should just
go on and now do whatever. But yeah, I guess they give him
(01:07:01):
a second chance. Okay. Ithink it's also really interesting. I don't
really mean for you to get thisdeep, but it's like they cover all
the bases for all the people whoare watching this movie to have it in
sure they cover you know, thegreat beyond and you know, if you're
you know, going to God,it's going to be this big. You
(01:07:23):
know, if you're joining back withhim all over again. You know,
how do you visualize that? That'sa challenge. That's a huge challenge.
You know, Like we always talkabout the great beyond, but what does
the great before look? Like? How do we make this successful? We'll
make it the U seminar that wasa little weird. I'm gonna say,
I'm gonna just call that as itis, Like, yeah, maybe that
(01:07:44):
was a little bit too on thenose. But how do you Where do
you get your passions from? Likewhere did gaming come from for you?
Where does awkwardness come for you?Because I can be in my in my
moments, I can be really intoit, but I have moments where I'm
like resigned and super awkward and sometimesI'm just quiet. But like, where
(01:08:06):
does that come from? Right? It is a genetic? I don't know
if it's a genetic. Yeah,I mean, like you mentioned, the
Pixar always knows how to how tolike explore these things that you don't really
think about. All the time.Um, but then when you do think
about you're just like, oh wait, how how did that come to fruition?
(01:08:27):
Right? Right? And you knowthey do it in these clever ways,
like they did it with inside out, with like you know how you
feel inside and then this kind ofwent the next level. So I don't
know if this is an Eastern RAGGbut I remember watching it the first time
and I wanted to watch it again, but I don't think I paid attention
the second time around. Sure, but there's this moment where twenty two is
(01:08:48):
freaking out inside Joe's body. That's, if we haven't said it before,
we're full spoiler territory here, please, we talked about the ending. We're
spiler. Yeah, there was thismoment where twenty two switched bodies or is
in a body that wasn't intended ortwenty two's experience. I guess, but
(01:09:11):
I guess everything worked. Then inthe end, everything was returned the way
it was supposed to return, Sotwenty two got a little angry and go
inside. The cat got food,So when twenty two eats the pizza,
there's this moment where the one figuresplits into multiple I guess versions of self.
(01:09:38):
It kind of reminded me of insideout where that soul was, you
know, I guess splitting into thedifferent emotions. I thought it was an
easteric, but I wasn't sure.I mean, Pixar always hides a much
little ysterics, like ain't that samescene like right before, like he runs
past the rat, the rat lookslike, you know, Remy. I
don't know if it looked like Remy. I looked. I look Pizza Red
(01:10:00):
I saw on the internet like multipletimes. Jesus, it looked it was
blue. So I was like,oh, that's Remy. Yeah, but
this one looked a little rough up. Yeah, exactly. It was Remy's
New York cousin, like Remy Better. I can't wait for the Remy ride
or two we ride and good. That's gonna be a lot of fun this
(01:10:24):
experience. Oh that's right, that'sright. Also, did you did you?
This isn't a reference to it atall, but did you catch the
Kingdom Hearts reference? No? Sowhen they're on the boat, they're discussing
like souls and all this stuff,and they're like, I don't have a
soul, I don't have a body. I'm a nobody. I think that's
(01:10:46):
stretching. I think, oh no, no, it's definitely not a reference
to the Kingdom Hearts at all.But any Kingdom Hearts fan would be like,
I understood what you did. That. Uh, that'd be interesting.
I mean, I think it'd beinteresting if it got a Kingdom Hearts series
on Disney Plus. I think thatwould be by Yeah. So I just
why didn't say I got this forChristmas? Um I got chapter one of
(01:11:10):
the Kingdom Hearts three mangas right now, I want to get the right the
other ones, so not I willsay this. And because I don't know
if for I think we're gonna wrapthis up pretty soon, just to enjoy
those mangas, because if you ifyou get it online, they don't worry.
(01:11:30):
I buy them officially. We're good. They're not downloaded illegally. No
no screen caps because screen caps morethan one frame, because because they're gonna
come get it exactly. Yeah,no, don't worry. This was purchased
legally. We're good. Um asare all the other mangas that I that
I have in my collection purchased withmonetary real money? Yes? Uh yeah,
(01:11:56):
yeah, so that's soul. Soit is weird. Life is weird.
I absolutely life is strange, andI'm glad I was able to have
it. And it's a it's anice the departure from a world that just
seems a little wacky right now.And by wacky, I'm I'm using that
(01:12:17):
word very forgiving. Yeah, veryforgiving in that word, because I don't
want I do want this to bean escape. I do want this podcast
to be a place where you don'tnecessarily have to to think about like the
world, because it's exhausting. It'struly truly exhausting. But I think it's
(01:12:39):
also disingenuous to just completely ignore thatour capital was under siege. Yeah,
I mean that's like I have neverlived in a That's the stuff that you
read in history books. Yeah, that's the stuff that you read in history
books. It's not something that happensevery year. It's not something that happens
(01:13:00):
every presidential cycle. And it's like, we kind of have to process this.
We talked about the importance of understandingyour mental health. It is not
something that you need to ignore.I don't think we're going to uncover it
in this episode. I don't knowif we're going to ever uncover this in
(01:13:21):
this episode, because I think there'sa time and place for everything. Yeah,
but guys, if you're listening towomen, if you're listening whoever's listening
to this, it's okay. Ifthis doesn't feel good, I think talking
about it is important. Definitely, don't want to leave that bottled in.
(01:13:47):
There has to be a healthy wayof processing what's happening. I don't necessarily
know if I have any official, you know, numbers or outlines or people
that you can reach out, butI know they're out there. I know
(01:14:08):
they're out there. I don't knowif I can be that person that you
know, come like, email me, text me, you know, tweet
me. You know. I'm notthat guy. I'm trying to figure this
out much like everybody else, everybodyelse, you know. I feel like
I can. I feel like Ican communicate, you know, with you
more, you know, because youknow, we've been friends for so long
(01:14:30):
and we you know, always lovetalking about this. I'm glad that we
have this opportunity to kind of dothis officially, but I don't think we
can ignore what's happening at the sametime, and it's not calling to arms,
it's not calling to action. It'snot any of that stuff. But
(01:14:50):
we do have to figure out howto be in this world, and we
have to figure out how to livein a world with each other, because
it's for some reason that seems reallyreally hard to do. Yeah. Absolutely,
So we're still here and we willcontinue doing this as long as we
(01:15:14):
can continue doing this. Yeah.Absolutely, we might take a break here
and there every once in a while, but I think we're going to come
back for sure. Yeah, AndI encourage you to rest. I think
rest is something that cannot be statedenough by me. Rest is important very
much. So. There is nothingthat just goes on forever. Batteries do
(01:15:35):
not last forever. Cars need torelax, need to be refueled. We
are the same way. We absolutelyare the same way. So if you
find yourself you're doing too much fortoo long a purposeful moments, by resolutely,
I agree with that. So that'sthat's what I have to share about
(01:16:00):
that. Absolutely. I don't knowif there's anything as you'd like to add.
I mean, ditto to everything yousaid. We're all we're all trying
to figure this out, um myselfincluded, and so with each day,
you know, we kind of getbetter or try to get better, and
(01:16:21):
that's all we can we can do. All we can do is just strive
to be better than we were theday before. Yeah, yeah, well
said well said so on that noteheavy notes, he so somber. So
(01:16:42):
I mean no, but I meanit's also uplifting. I'd like to view
this as uplifting. I mean,I don't think I think it's disingenuous to
say that the stucks and you know, how much longer if this do I
have to? You know, withstandbefore I just give out. There is
a whole there is and I don'tsay that as a teasy, campy word.
(01:17:03):
You know, there's hope, butthere's hope within us. There's hope
within each other. There's hope andrelationships, not romantic relationships. I'm just
talking about the people that you're talkingto, the people that are your family.
There's there's always room for forgiveness andhealing, and it's something that's necessary.
(01:17:27):
Otherwise, absolutely, we just dissolveinto mandness and decay. Yeah.
Absolutely, yeah, Well, thankyou, And with that, I say
