(00:18):
Hello, everyone that had Welcome Backto Garret Rock. The podcast came at
season five. Yeah, we madeit to the fifth season. Really doing
it, Harry, really doing it. It's Steve. But still anyway,
how have you been mate? That'swhat I've been saying in all these gigs
We've been to. Every time I'mthere, I literally turn to the person
(00:39):
on with it. I go reallydoing it, Harry. And there's a
lot of gigs and a lot ofpeople you've been talking to at gigs,
because there's a lot of people thatsaid gigs, yeah, but we're not
those people that stand there and talkwhile the music's playing. Maybe a bit
of chat here and there, butyou don't have a full fucking conversation.
What you know, they're playing asong. Have some mother flipping respect.
(01:02):
Absolutely, And I'll get to thatat the moment. Actually, because that
happened to me, not just forthe artist, but the crowd. Absolutely.
Did I tell you that that happenedto me? And one of the
gigs that we went to, let'stell me. I'll tell you. But
what we will do, first ofall is just list of some of the
bands that we've been to. Firstof all, welcome back, listeners.
Yeah, we welcome back. Seasonfive, episode one, line two position,
(01:26):
three letter letter cettes. Yeah,it's been, it's been. It's
been a while. But turning intoa game show, Steve, we should
turn into a game show, agame show, Yeah, it should be
asked burping lyrics to a song.I don't know how that will go and
people would have to guess. Maybewe'll do that as a video, a
(01:47):
video in between. You know, the votes we've been doing, so many,
the votes we've been getting has beenthrough the mother flipp and DC blink
two dream Yes did you say, girl, Pam? Sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't. It almost worked, and eyes stive tries. But so
(02:10):
I'm just going to rattle of twofighters or for me two fighters because I
went twice blink one A two andrise against And for me it's blink one
eight two times for me yes,um, And I'm just blink one eight
once for me. Queens of theStone Age No Effects and Body Jar the
(02:34):
Darkness You am, I and DZdeath Rays on one big bill of rock
Irish rockers. You two in Vegasat the mother Flipping Sphere. Yeah,
I seek your people are going tothink, what did did you two come
to Australia. What's going on here? I didn't know they were coming.
No, No, Deve went andgot himself for this little cardboard thing that
(03:00):
gave him a pass to go ona jet plane to fly to mother flipping
Vegas to see you two. Andwhat's some NRL. I didn't I didn't
watch NRL because yeah, but yousaw the basketball NBA. I saw the
NBA. Different the NHL and theNFL. There's a lot of ends in
there. Yeah, but you know, if you go over there, may
(03:22):
as well make a fucking journey ofit. You're you're going to it,
well, I mean yeah, you'reyou're going to Vegas later in the year.
Yes, yeah, that's very new, new news, new news when
we were young. Festival. Yeah, we can get onto that. We
can get onto that. So muchto cover Steve. This might be a
double episode, So brace yourselves infinish off your masturbation, because you know,
(03:45):
when we teach masturbation, we're alljust have fun with it. Exactly,
gets just stainless steel, deal outof It's time to have some fun
with Stephen cam. That's it now. Just if it starts to cool down,
just sit it on the toaster. There was one other artists forget We're
forgetting just a small intimate gig thatyou went to Taylor Swift. I'm a
(04:08):
swifty dad, you are a Swift. It's official, you know what,
the T shirt and the bracelet toprove it. Chronologically, it's it's the
most recent gig. But let's startwith that show. We Taylor Swift to
blink after it? Oh well, just fuck you, Steve. You're forget
everything Steve has ever said because becauseof that, we now think everything is
(04:29):
a lie. Well, there wasthat time I told you I loved you,
and I guess that was a lie. But t Swizzle, you you
got literally like the last tickets, the mother flipping tickets. These were the
hottest tickets in town. I triedfor multiple other people. I wasn't interested
in going. I had three computersgoing on was I was at work.
(04:50):
Pretty much everyone in the office waslogged on to multiple devices trying to get
tickets. No one got a ticket, and a couple people got through to
where you purchase it, but becausethere were so many people on the website,
everything moves so slowly that by thetime they got to purchase the ticket,
the time he would run out.So that was that was us multiple
(05:13):
times on multiple devices, over multiplereleases as well, Like even even the
competitions on the radio, Like I'mdriving around at work listening to fucking double
TFM, whatever the fuck it is. Wow, it's because I always thought
you were more of an Eon smfan listening and I'm calling, I'm calling,
(05:38):
and then it would ring. I'mlike, fuck, I'm in.
I mean, I'm going to bethe best dad in the world. And
this is this is where the pressurecomes in for people. They want to
be a great parent. They wantto get the kids the tickets. Yeah,
you know, they want to gettheir friend the ticket or whatever.
Anyway, No luck, no luckwith the competitions we entered in online anyway,
the final release obstructed view on multipledevices. My wife got through,
(06:03):
got four tickets. So she's thegood parent, She's the good parent.
Yeah. Yeah, So I'm justunlucky, don't I must have stabbed someone
in a past life or something.I don't know, maybe what if,
what if were a bad person?Well does that make it all right?
We're getting deep eye for an eye, Steve for an eye, and a
(06:23):
tooth for a tooth. Yeah.So tea swizzle tea swizzle. Oh my
god, Steve, I've never been. I've been, well, you and
I have been a lot of livemusic over the years. Right, I've
lost count so many gigs. Actuallythought about that. I wouldn't mind sitting
down and counting. How would youremember? I can be I don't even
(06:45):
remember to have a breakfast, legitimatelycannot remember to have a breakfast. I
think it may have been a cookiecookie. What kind it was? I
think it was like a chocolate anzac, chocolate anzac. Just when you think
Australia couldn't be tightened, it yeah, tainted Titan Jesus Tata anyway, on
(07:11):
the Brave Brak. So you youwent to the gig with your your wife
and daughter and and and a familyfriend as well, and a few other
friends as well. And once more, I know, like my wife's friend
Tara and Sarah, they really reallywanted tickets, and I really wanted to
get the tickets so they could goas well. And there's a lot of
(07:34):
emotional things behind her music and whythey wanted to go and stuff like that
sort of attribute to a friend, and it was very emotional that we got
got these tickets, which it wasfor a lot of people. Like the
music means so much to people,so we can relate to that. Even
though Taylor Swift is probably not ourgenre. It's not garage rock we've talked
(07:56):
about on the show before, butfuck she she's got some good songs and
seeing them live and seeing her liveamazing performer, amazing band. But we
were obstructed views, so we'll writebasically next to the band, in line
with the stage, and which didn'treally matter anyway, because I was watching
the drama the whole time and notthe whole time, and Taylor was out
(08:18):
in the on the catwalk for alot of the show anyway. Yeah,
and when you couldn't see her,you watched on the screen that was right
in front of her. Yeah,so it was. It was brilliant and
only sixty five dollars tickets. Peoplepaid eight hundred bucks and were stuck behind
the sound tense stave you didn't seesh all I heard about that. A
lot of unhappy people with that.I think it was Missy Higgins. I
think, oh really, she hadone of those tickets and then she tried
(08:41):
to sort of get out of herseat and get and then security. We're
like, no, get back toyou. She missed. Yeah, yeah,
miss you the whole thing. Shewas scarred by the experience. Funny,
Sorry, sorry, it's fuck. How many minutes into the show was
already gone down down that rope?Love it. My watch gives me decibel
(09:01):
warnings, right, yeah. Thedecibel warning when the music was on was
ninety decibelves. You know, prettynormal for a rock concert, right yeah.
Blink was the same when she stoppedplaying and pointed at the crowd,
did this thing where she I'm justone, like quite americanized, you know,
(09:24):
I'm wondering what happens if I dothis and points to the crowd and
then draws her finger around the crowd. And everyone's got these wristbands on that
have lights on them, and theystarted lighting up, and as she's pointing,
their lighting up with the crowd. So it was really cool. The
screaming, Steve, you could imagineninety seven, ninety sixty, it was.
(09:46):
Yeah, my watch gave me awarning at ninety five decibels just from
the screaming. Yeah, well that'san interesting thing actually, So I went
to the darkness, which we'll talkabout a bit later, but I went
with one of the girls from workand she went to the Taylor Swift gig
and she said, for her, like a lot of Taylor songs, sort
of she connects with them personally andhas a bit of an emotional connection with
(10:09):
them. And she said that shewas really looking forward to the gig,
but she couldn't really hear Taylor singingherself because you've got all these women around
her who were all just singing loudand as high as they could. And
she was like, it kind oftook me out of that. And she
was like, from a musical standpoint, I enjoyed the Darkness concert more than
(10:31):
Taylor Swift, even though Taylor Swiftwas the biggest spectacle, and I'm a
bigger Taylor Swift fan, But asfar as a concert went, because you
were just you couldn't hear at timesbecause it was just so much screaming.
It would have been like the Beatlesback in the sixties. Yeah, when
they didn't have the sound stuff thatthey have now, so you couldn't hear
anything. Yeah, we were luckyenough we could hear the people around us
(10:52):
weren't screaming the heads off. ButSteve, it was a beautiful vibe is
what I say. They do thiswhere you know, everyone wears the beaded
bracelets and they you go up tostrangers and you swap bracelets. Oh okay,
And like Edie was, she's mydaughter, she's twelve years old.
(11:13):
You know, we're walking up thestairs. First of all, she bumped
into one of her friends there andthey swapped bracelets. It's kid. And
then she walked up walking up thestairs to our seats. There was like,
I don't know, young twenty yearold two young twenty year old girls
up there and they've just started talkingto Edie and started swapping bracelets with her.
(11:33):
She's really friendly, joyful experience. It's all around. Everyone was happy,
everyone was dancing, everyone was singing, having a good time. It
was yeah, it was. Itwas beautiful to see. It was a
similar vibe at Blink one eight two, oh fuck yeah, except I was
much much more excited for the songs. You were the screaming little girl really
(11:56):
well one I sing with the tailingthing. So the tailor thing, just
that little gig that kind of cameand went and just on that steve that's
worldwide. These everyone's trying to getthe tickets worldwide. Well, the Melbourne
gig was the largest concert she's everplayed. I mean it's it's a one
(12:18):
hundred thousand se stadium. That's herrecord attendance and it's like a Melbourne Pride.
Brother one of the footy dads who'syeah, also the principal at the
school, he said he's been toyou know, Grand Finals at the mcgene
things like that, and he said, this compares to nothing. The atmosphere,
everything that, the sound was justamazing. Yeah, it's good time
(12:43):
and that was a thing. Somy partner went to see Rise Against play
at the Forum in Melbourne and inorder Oh she loved it, but in
order to get there, she hadto walk past Federation Square. For those
of you who don't know Federation Square, it's an open air area where there's
like a few cafes and restaurants, but there's also like a giant screen as
(13:03):
well that they have stuff on.So I went there once to watch the
World Cup soccer and it was anamazing atmosphere when we soccer was won a
game so great. Anyway, theywere live streaming her mcg gig at Federation
Square. I didn't know that, and there were to see it like the
video. Yeah, it was justthe sound. It was on the big
(13:26):
screen. It was on the bigscreen. I didn't know that. Yeah,
so it was like the mcg showwas up on that you could to
save yourself sixty five bucks. Buthere's the thing. She had to walk
past fed Square and it was jampacked full of people. So she walked
on the other side where there's likea church, and there were people all
over the church and the church steps, all looking into Federation Square trying to
(13:48):
watch it. The place was heaving, so one hundred thousand in the city
as well, you know, probablyjust because there was people outside singing along
listening. Yeah, bit nuts,But any we'll move away from Titan.
Thank you. Thank you for allof you rock fans for through our Taylor
Swift. She's got a lot ofsongs that are rock, you know,
(14:11):
Like I know she started off countryand she's obviously majority of pop artists these
days, but some songs are youlike, this is the same riff that
the stiff is used, like,no joke, do you remember them?
Everybody? Erection She's got a songabout erections, No same riff. But
(14:39):
unless she is like a I don'tknow glitterous. Anyway, moving on from
Tato, Steve, which which gigdo you want to talk about next?
It's time. It's time. It'stime to hear about YouTube at the mother
flipping Sphere, I want it,want to go there, Like, how
(15:03):
was it? Yeah, I meanthat was it was? Where do you
start? Where do you start? It's a gig like no other, Like
there's nothing else like that in theworld. And like we've been to hundreds
of gigs and we've talked about this. I mean, we've got a fucking
podcast about music and we're talking aboutall the gigs that we go to.
This is by far the best eventI've ever seen in my life. Honestly,
(15:28):
I think seeing a Sekildy premiership mightbe the only thing that could maybe
surpass that. Just being there,I mean the sphere itself, I mean
all of the screens on the inside. For those of you who don't know
what the sphere is YouTube the SphereLas Vegas, and just see some of
the stuff that the days footage, like the it's got all of the screens
(15:52):
on the outside, does some amazingthings and the screens are just seamless,
Like yeah, okay, the helldo they do that. Yeah, that's
a lot of pixels. It isa lot of pixels. But actually,
so when you get close to thescreen, they're actually like hockey puck sized,
oh really dots, and there's alittle bit of probably like another hockey
(16:14):
puck between each of them to sortof roll around the screen. But yeah,
the way it's done is superb.But the inside there's a sixteen K
resolution screen that wraps around the sideand up over the roof and inside the
stadium arena whatever you want to callit. There's one hundred and sixty thousand
(16:36):
speakers. There's a lot of speakers, wow, and people seat you know,
it's about eighteen thousand. Yeah, there's a bit of standing room at
the front. But we got thelast minute tickets and made a trip of
it. But yeah, the gigitself was phenomenal. The band were tight
(16:57):
as always. They play Joshua notJoshua Uktung Baby in full. They did
yest to finish they well, theydid like the opening track and then a
bunch of singles, and then theydid a small section of tracks from their
previous album Rattle and Hum, andthen they finished with the rest of the
(17:18):
album tracks from Uktung Baby, andthen the last six or seven songs were
sort of like the same every night, and that was more of a visual
thing. But it was like Elevation, Vertigo, beautiful Day Streets have no
name, like like the heavy hits, but visually there's the stuff that they
were doing with it. Yeah,I mean it was it was insane.
(17:40):
What's what's you two like these days? Because obviously it's it's been a minute
since you've seen them. Yeah, look and look tight as always. I
mean the drummer Larry Mullens Jr.Had Doney's shoulder. They'd already announced that
they were doing these two and thenhe had to have shoulder surgery. So
they had a younger Dutch drummer,Brand Vanderbank Band. That's some Dutch guy
(18:03):
who filled in on drums, andyeah he did. He did a really
good thing and he was like aprobably like rock drummer, like he was
beating the shit out of those drums. And but yeah, just the spectacle.
They know how to command an audienceand just some of the shit that's
gone on. I'm just like lookingall over the place, like what the
fuck is going on? This isinsane. There's like just like flames shooting
(18:27):
from like the ground and flinging upover the roof, and the videos it
looks realistic. The screen is thatclear. It looked like there was one
song where it looked like it wasthe Las Vegas strip and there was all
the buildings behind them and there's likecars moving relection, and it looked like
it's like this looks like Las Vegas. And then the buildings start getting deconstructed,
(18:52):
like cranes are moving in and likeall the buildings just take them all
down, and then it's like you'rejust left with the desert. And then
these two chopped flying from the topover the night sky, and then they
did vertigo and there's all these fuckingthings. It was like, this is
fucking insane. I just hope thatthey release it on people people still use
like VHS, like if they wereto do like a VHS release, I
(19:15):
believe as soon as you leave thegig, you two just automatically put on
your iPhone. That's right to check. But I just had I got a
virus as soon as I left thearena, Like I haven't been able to
use my phone since. That mayhave been it. That's it. But
again like, because that's it.A lot of people don't like YouTube obviously
because that happened. But and Bonois a bit of a wayka and that
(19:41):
was it. So my partner, she knows of them. She's never been
like a massive fan, but shewent with me because I couldn't got my
own. You'd have to go.Even I'm not a huge fan, but
I would have gone. Yeah,and that's she's still she's a good partner,
but I'm not so well. Imean, you could have been,
but you said no in high school. So but she said, yeah,
it's the most impressive thing she's seen, even though it's a band that she's
(20:04):
not into. But yeah, itwas just phenomenal. Some of the stuff
that they could do. Imagine ifsomeone you know, whoever's in charge of,
you know, the visuals. Couldyou imagine if they as a as
a prank or you know, they'vejust found out they're getting laid off and
this is their last night or something. Yeah, so they decided to put
(20:26):
some fucking real hardcore porn up therewhile everyone that was actually one of the
songs in the background they had.It was just it was just actually,
I've got to tell you about thisso this is this is a weird tangent,
but we're taking the Edge's hat off, wasn't it. I believe it
was edging. He was edging onthe side of the stage. No,
but this is for real, andI my hand on my heart. This
(20:49):
is one hundred percent on us.We talk a lot of bullshit on this
show. Okay, this is onehundred percent truth. You know that there's
that drummer who does a lot ofvideos on Instagram and Facebook. We've seen
a lot of yes, so absolutelyinsane talk about him for a whole podcast.
Absolutely. I was watching one ofhis clips on my phone on Facebook
(21:11):
and just one of those reels andthen you know how sometimes all the real
finishes, it just goes into anad. Yep. So I'm sitting there
on the couch watching a cool songand then it finishes hardcore pornography. It
was just on YouTube Facebook. Thiswas a Facebook ad. The as soon
as the ad finishes, there's justa close up of a vagina getting absolutely
(21:33):
smashed by real cook. Yes,and then it so that's just like there
and I'm like, okay, what'sgoing on, And there's all this sort
of in the background, right, and then it cuts to some guy putting
some like drops on his tongue oflike some some liquid, and then all
of a sudden he's sitting on theend of the bed and his dick just
gets massive onto to the floor. And then it's just a lot of just
(21:57):
just dicks going in and out,and then the ad finishes and just replays
the drum video again. I'm like, what the fuck was that? That
can't be that's a mistake, surelybecause you get the details. I wouldn't
mind trying, so I've got thedrops if you want, no, But
that was like I was, Imean, did you finish? I did
(22:21):
before the video just done. Butthe thing is, like I was,
and I'm not I'm not some kindof prude, but I was shocked because
I was just not expecting that, not on social media, not on Facebook.
I could have been a child watchinga drum video. Absolutely, you'd
think that that kind of shit's regular. And I haven't seen anything like that
since it got to a bet youshould make a complaint to Zucks, to
(22:42):
Zucks say this really sucks, likewhat are you Jesus? What do you
do? Maybe maybe their content guyad guy was losing his job and Yeah,
there's it. I'm going to foxsome people over Well maybe he wasn't
losing a job, maybe he gota promotion, he was going to start
working at the sphere. It wasjust like, you know what, this
is my last day with the Zucks. It all it's all coming together right
(23:06):
now over me now. The Americantrip, though it was, it was
fantastic. It's pretty full on thoughthe States. It's almost like it's another
country over there. It's this wholeother country. Yeah, well that's what
the Matrix tells you. Anyway.Yeah, don't get me started on that.
Actually, have you seen the Matrixfour? No, don't. It's
awful. Anyway, moving on remakeof the first one. It's continued.
(23:30):
It's it's continuation, but it's justit's like the original but horrible. So
yeah, but it's just spoiler alertthere. But it's interesting, like just
the culture, like just just walkbecause all so we went to La Vegas,
Seattle, Boston, and New York, right, all five cities.
(23:52):
All five cities. Weed is legal, so stinky, stinky everywhere everywhere in
the streets, smell it every That'sfunny. Just on that. When we
left Blink with the kids, onthe second night, ye smell a lot
of weed. Kids are like, what's that smell. Danny's like, that's
weed. I might get used toit when we go to America. Are
(24:12):
you gonna smell it? Yeah? And and and hey they can have some
well they're over there, because that'sthe thing. So so I partook,
partook, partook. I had someweed while I was over there. When
in Rome, you fuck Romans. When in Las Vegas you have some gummies.
(24:33):
And that's what I did. So, bless her heart, she doesn't
listen to the podcast. I'm goingto tell you a little story about my
girlfriend. So I thought she listened. No, she doesn't listen. I'm
not talking to any She doesn't likeone of us. I don't know which
one. Though. It's not hard. It isn't anymore until I get the
oil the drops of war exactly. So anyway, we've gone to we're gone
(24:57):
to Las Vegas, and we'll goto a dispensary. Dispensaries everywhere, So
go to this one. What dothey call a dispensary because they dispense drugs,
I know, but what they're gonnacall it a weed store? Actually,
what we what we were in NewYork because there's there's just knockoff ship
everywhere. There's like fake Gucci andPrada handbags all on the ground, and
(25:19):
people are just like, yeah, get your Gucci. It's just like that's
not good. I don't know much, but I's not free. But there
was this one guy who just likeset up a card table not far from
Times Square, just set up acard table, had a whole bunch of
weed on there, just saying itwas by weed. Cops like walking past,
(25:40):
and he's probably got a license andyeah, probably selling weed. Just
like that. Wow. But sowe went to everyone's doing in America.
The government's like, we might aswell tax it and get some money of
it. Yeah, legalizes, don'ttax anyway. So we got got some
gummies and knew it's like, youknow, you can select them, like
what what kind of high are youafter after a chill, after a bit
(26:03):
of you know, you want toget excited? You want to just what
were they like? Were they likeshapes of gummy bears or something? No,
no, they were just squares, just cubes. They could have made
him fun, they could have, but they chose quality over creativity. Creativity
perhaps, So we got these thesegummies and we go back to our hotel.
(26:27):
Now we're going to go to theice hockey that night in Vegas.
Yeah, so we're like, look, we've got a few hours to kill.
We'll pop one and then we'll justsee what happens. And apparently supposed
to kick in after an hour,Steve, what's next heroin? Well that
that was fentanyl, Boston was washeroin, and then New York was death.
(26:48):
But I woke up, so it'sfine. Anyway, it was.
It was a scary couple of minutesthere. So we've got these gummies and
I've taken one part of staken one. It's been an hour, not really
feeling anything yet. So she's justlike, I'm gonna we'll have another one.
So that sounds like a mistake, mistake for one of us. So
(27:10):
anyway, she's like, oh,look, I'm gonna go have a shower.
So she has a shower and I'mjust sitting in my bed playing with
the phone, and then I canjust hear her just piercing herself laughing from
the bathroom, just laughing, andcomes out She's like, there was a
car. It drove straight past myface. It was a cartoon car,
and then then I opened my eyesand another car went past, and she
was just like giggling at that anyway, So I was just like, well,
(27:33):
I have a shower because I haven'thit the bush yet. And then
it hit me and I just hadthis overwhelming urge to watch Fraser. So
I was like, I came outof the bathroom and you know what we
need to do? Watch Fraser. And she was like, that's a great
idea. When we like Fraser,I do like Fresher, not the new
Fraser new phrase is awful, butthe classics, yes, okay, yeah,
(27:57):
it wasn't totally out of left field. Both like Fraser. So we're
sitting on her bed watching Fraser onmy phone and then the next thing I
sort of feel is she's just grabbingmy arm, just super super tight.
I'm like, everything all right. She's just like they're coming out of the
screen at me, and I'm like, what are you talking about. She's
like Fraser and Niles, they're comingin screen. I'm like, oh,
(28:19):
that's okay. She's just like canwe just keep watching it? Because at
least I know what's going on.I've seen these episodes, and I'm like,
we're leaving for the ice hockey inan hour. She's just like,
hopefully we'll see what happens. I'mlike, oh god, I don't want
to miss the ice hockey. SoI was just like, I'll just leave
her on the bed. She'll befine. Anyway. She sobers up a
(28:40):
bit and it's like, okay, well we're getting in an uber and we're
going to the ice hockey. Sowe get in this car and this guy
was listening to like Bible bashing, like Christian radio where it's just like there's
no music, it's just like andhe said to the Lord Jesus Us all
that kind of can I get ahunger? So all this kuy stuff,
(29:06):
and she's like freaking out. Andthis guy had like a little knitted blanket.
It was like the size of andhe was just like stroking this blanket
while he's driving, and she's justlike, what the fuck is this guy
going to kill us? So she'sfreaking out. Anyway, so we got
to the we got to the icehockey and she was all good bye.
Then we're sitting there and there werethese Canadian guys sitting behind us with some
(29:26):
local Los Vet Los Veganans lost Losvegans. What are they are? They
they're vegans, I'm guessings Las Vegascitizens. Anyway, Las Vegas people,
and they were like, oh,hey, do you guys know how we
can get drugs into the casino. And this guy's just like yeah, man,
(29:48):
but he's just giving him advice andhow to do this. And these
guys are like, well, yeah, yeah, this is what to do
and give him advice, and thenthe American guy goes, actually, I'll
tell you how you can guns intothe casino. And then they were like
really, it's like, yeah, you just sort of like you just sort
of tuck it in your pants andthen if anyone asks you, you just
make a big deal about Second Amendmentrights and they usually leave you alone.
(30:12):
From That's probably the most American conversationI've ever heard. And then they discussed
not having abortions, so it waspretty much like as American as you can
get. But yeah, Vegas, like the casinos are just next level people.
Like there was this one woman. We were there for four days,
and every time we walked past thecasino to like leave or go to the
(30:34):
shops or anything like that, shewas sitting at the one machine. For
the four days we were there. How do you keep that going? They
give you a lot of coffee,I'm guessing, and free alcohol, but
I don't. I don't think shewas up. But yeah, so in
short, yeah, amazing. Wecan talk some other time about my time
in Seattle doing the grunge tour, because that was that was next level.
(30:57):
You want to touch on that anothertime. We've got so much to touch
today in New York, Boston,New York, and Los Angeles. Yeah,
La did a bit of Disney andUniversal Universal Studios. Talk on my
mother flipping language, Steve. Ilove that she's nizzle, the nizzle that
is shizzled. But let's let's let'smove the conversation up tempo a bit.
(31:22):
Yeah, I'm talking wink one atyou. Oh oh yes, how good?
How mother flipping good. There wasanother moment, Steve, where I
started going really doing Harry. Ohyeah, yeah. So I went the
first night in Melbourne. Uncle Spenniganwent the second night. Yes, Valentine's
(31:44):
Valentine's Day. Oh you took thelovely No, No, she as soon
as she got rise against tickets shesold her or gave away her blink one
h And I thought you were goingto say you went with your brother's wife
or I did I went with mybrother's wife instead. That's awesome. Absolutely
loved it, Steve. I wasso excited waiting for the come on.
(32:05):
I was nervous all day, youknow. So when all this went on
sale, I was in my silentretreat and my good friend Christopher Rhoades roads
dog Rosie. He knew how muchwe both wanted to go see him,
and we never thought they'd come toAustralia. And anyway, I was unable
to buy tickets because I wasn't thereand we didn't know it wasn't no,
(32:30):
we didn't and they didn't know ifit was going to be one show ended
up being five. But so hegot me VIP ticket and so we're in
the front wash pit was freaking amazingwith a bunch of other work guys and
Rosy's brother and his girlfriend and man, he was so we got these lanyards
(32:51):
Special Lands, a little gift onthe way in which is a stuffed blink
one eight two bunny. Oh reallyyeah that's cool. So that was a
nice little gift and so yeah,we went in and it was good.
Yeah, yeah, I mean Iwent as well and I would say,
yeah, good pretty much sums itup. Yeah, the vibe was huge.
(33:15):
Obviously, first Melbourne show, everyonewas you know, rise against come
on and played only eight songs, but it felt really quick. But I
was just so pumped for Blink andthey come out and it was it was
just amazing. But in funny story, my friend's girlfriend came and I don't
(33:36):
think she's been to that many gigs, but actually asked her permission if I
could tell the stories from her thatnight, and she said, yeah,
go for it. Do you wantme to come on the podcast? Man,
my twin's sister. We talk alot of shit, you know what
I mean. I'll tell you what. If she came on the podcast,
I'm sure a lot of other peoplelistening would as well. We can make
a video for Facebook, I think. Anyway, So we had these lanyards
(34:00):
on right, and on the lanyardthat said Blink VIP. You know,
we're all standing in a group andshe's looking at her VIP pass and she
just there's sort of a pause inthe conversation. She just puts it up
to her lips and you know,we all know what VIP stands for,
right, Yeah, very important person. It's very American that it gigs.
(34:24):
Anyway, I can tell you ongood authority that she did not mean to
say this. Yeah, but that'show it came out. She put it
up to her lips and she goes, oh, I'm sucking in all this
VI penis. Everyone's just cracked upand she's like what what And she's just
(34:46):
gone, oh, I didn't meanthat. It's a very important penis.
It's a very important penis. Anyway, she was having fun as we all
were, like they come out andSteve just blew me away. This und
was awesome. The setless pick wasawesome. They changed it up a bit
every night. They Yeah, theyall played really well. I was surprised
(35:09):
actually how good they sounded. They'vebeen on a world tour for about a
year and a half. Yes,they're well practiced now because she's the end
of the of the world tour. The world tour is over. Now they've
survived. They have survived, gota bit to do. Now they've got
the one more time tour, whichis because they when they played the States,
the album wasn't out, So nowthey're going back there for an album
(35:32):
tour. And she's you know, halfway through the gig, she's like starting
to get real drunk. Now she'slike, oh, on a crowd surf.
And it wasn't really a crowdsurfing vibe. Some people did, but it
was you know, we're getting oldand now everyone was sort of chilled out.
But you know there was a circlepit for a bit. Yeah yeah,
(35:53):
and you know the circle pit wasgoing off, and I'd just sort
of run up to it and edgeon it and just p ten edging,
yes, walk away. It's avisual thing. Steve's enjoying it. Oh
yeah, no, it's getting afull display of your edging prowess. And
she goes to the tall person infront of him and says, would you
mind lifting me up? I wanta CrowdSurf, do you know what I
(36:15):
mean? And they're like okay.So they've lifted her up and she's gone
about one person and then fall andflatten her face on the ground, as
you would imagine, because you know, you've got to read the room with
absolutely CrowdSurf, and don't you Steveanyway, Yes, she starts rocking out
again and that's all good, andthen blink always close with damn it,
(36:36):
you know, and the vibe washuge. Everyone was loving it. Damn
it finishes so that you're thinking,no, it's probably over. But they've
been finishing with One More Time, which, as you know, Steve,
is one of the probably their mostquietest songs that they have. Yeah,
she taps the guy in front ofher, can you lift me up?
(36:57):
The crowd sir, think you wanta crowd surf at the probably least appropriate
time and the least appropriate song.So they've listened her up. She's gone
one person form again. Oh man, fun times, fun times. But
yeah, man, we I wenttwo weeks later. It took the kids
(37:19):
up and we're just up in theseats and I went off with that.
It was it was awesome, Thekids loved it. I'm so glad I
got to see it. Someone postedthe next day on the to a Facebook
page that they saw Tom after thatgig No No the next night, which
was the last night, which Iwas very tempted and going to Steve,
But how many times can you go, I'm busy bee? You are a
(37:43):
busy bee. Someone said they sawTom and said will you ever come back
to Australia and he said it's doubtful. Yeah, so that might be it
there. Maybe that might be thatmight be said. It was took a
lot out of him this tour.Yeah. Yeah, when we saw him
the second time, he's voice wasgoing. I felt for him because to
do that night in night out,it must it must be tough. Yeah,
(38:05):
and especially I mean and it isthe end of the tour. I
don't know how long the break isbefore they start the American tour, possibly
the American summer. I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's now. It's
now. I'm pretty sure they're Yeah, I looked up their dates. Well,
you were that close you probably couldlook up there. It's all right,
up their dates. Jeez, sorryabout that. To respber Weeds,
(38:25):
your boy Steve. I love whenSteve looks at me like that because he's
like, yeah, I'm cutting that. No, I'm looking at you.
The cocks are turning in my head, going, how the funk am I
going to need it this? SoI'll just I'll just keep on going.
But yeah, I went the followingnight your highlights. What'd you think just
(38:47):
hanging with my you know, brother'snow wife in the mosh Valentine's Day so
against each other? Did you?Oh yeah, jump up? And down
and get nice and sweaty ship I'mnot quite Yeah, no, it was
for me Men overboardboard and that wasreally cool and just yeah, the visuals
(39:07):
and just overboard, remember we did. I love playing Man Overboard because I
mean it starts with the base. What was your highlight though? Cam was
probably seen my favorite song stay Togetherfor the Kids, which I've never seen
them play live before really, whichwas really cool. But also I think
(39:30):
the best sounding song they all soundedpretty good, was yeah We're doing it
on It just sounded really cool. And also the backgrounds, the art and
the background is really cool through Cartoonya lot of the stuff as well.
(39:52):
Yeah, really well that crappy punkrock vibes and all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, it was cool. Iabsolutely loved it. So maybe see
them one more time, but probablynot. Maybe they'll be playing more when
I'm in America. Maybe, Imean, I mean, set your watches
to stun and see what happens.I got halfway through that sentence and then
(40:13):
thought, I don't know how I'mgoing to finish this. Stun. We'll
go with stun And I was lookingat looking at you like a stun mullet.
Well, Mullet's our back camp. They certainly are. Again, we've
got so many things to talk about, but we're running out of time time,
So one more gig. We'll dothat and then we'll come back with
maybe a part two or apart Bor a second part however you want to
(40:36):
call it. It's high five forJesus, So, Queens and Stone Age.
Yes, wad how was it?Oh? It was awesome. They
play against Sydney my Music Bowl,Sydney my Music Bowl, the bowl that
Sidney Meyer built. Yeah, andit's Sydney with a with an eye,
(40:57):
not a wy to be confused withSydney. Yeah, which is really confusing
because it's in Melbourne. Yes,well that was That was by far one
of the loudest gigs I've been toin a long time. Okay, it
was a very loud gig. Didyou watch tell you how loud? No,
it didn't tell me how lou Ididn't know that that was even a
(41:22):
thing until you told me, SteveYes put it on God, Yeah,
and it was so loud. Whywhy were they so loud? It was
just down to suit everyone's ear holes, Like, come on, I don't
think that they cared because they werejust rocking out. But they they went
with made of Mine from work,Joel Hi, Joel, if you're listening,
(41:44):
Joel Funck yourself, Joe Joline Jolibeg please take me to quote.
There is what Steve said to JolineJeline Jol. I'm begging of you.
Don't make that his nickname at worknow, because then we'll get up footballing.
Yeah, and I can't afford that. I need this job so I
(42:06):
can pay for more concert tickets.Yeah, yeah, but he was saying,
how relaxed Josh Homie looked. Hejust seemed, you know, he
stopped the drink and and he justseemed he was having a good time.
Gummies as well. I don't know, but he was. He just everyone
just looked relaxed, and he wasjust he looked happy to be there.
(42:28):
The previous time I saw them inMelbourne, he had a cold and so
he kept like turning his head awayand like spitting on the ground like he
was like coffee was, yes, have a few little biscuits in the biscuit
barrel, but he was going througha stage after that. Yeah, well,
I mean spit polish, you're justlemony fresh. But he he did
(42:51):
struggle a bit, but blew inmy nose the other day and showed my
daughter and what did she think ofthat? Disgusting? Yeah, but I
mean you got fucking Daylor Swift ticketsout of it. So this is what
this is what you get. Ifyou don't want to go to Tata,
then fine, I won't do it. But you know, anyway, yeah,
anyway on that, I'd share thatwith them, thank you, like
(43:13):
you shared it with your daughter. But they know they put on an awesome
show and they enjoyed themselves. Andso there are two songs that I've always
wanted to see them play, andevery time I've seen them, they've played
them on the second show, soI've always missed out. They do one
acoustic song and I love hero ofWar and they played that night I went,
I didn't go. Yeah, wellyeah, there you go. So
(43:37):
there are two songs I have beenmissing and also feel good hit of the
summer, which is a sier teenvalium vicod and marijuana, ecstasy, alcohol
cocaine. Since you go on toAmerica, you've turned into your drug.
Fuck you. Well, they've gota new chorus that's for fentanyl, I
think. Anyway, you've got anupdate with the times. Yeah, well,
(44:00):
I mean I'll tell you a Fentanelstory when I get to Seattle.
Anyway, to be continued, butyeah, they did this. They did
this set list and then they've comeout and they were like, we're having
such a good time. We wantto hear what you want to play?
What do you want us to playSummers? So someone's yelling that out and
(44:21):
then someone had a pillowcase with IOPmissing on it and he's like IOP missing
and I'm like, yes, fuckingdo that. And so he's like,
bring the pillow case up here, and so we draped it over his amp
and he's like, we're going todo it. We haven't played this in
seven years. I looked it up. It's been about like two. But
anyway, so they played it.I was like, fuck, this is
yeah, this is awesome. Ireally really enjoyed it. And then why
(44:43):
was it written on a pillow case? Someone had written it on a pillow
case. And then he said, have you had this pillow case between your
thighs? And do you mind ifI smell the pillow case and everything like
that. Yeah, he's up therejust making all these the wet perch exactly.
He was like, can I addto it? No, seriously,
he was getting a bit vold withthe pillow case. And then as soon
(45:06):
as they finished that song, theyjust went straight into Fielgert here this summer.
I was just like, fuck itall right? Wow, do they
not play that much? No,they hadn't played that for a couple of
years either, okay, and thenthey finished the two songs that they typically
do in their own course sets,so bonus tracks. What a time,
time to be alive and got someartwork for it as well, because I'm
just with my artwork collection in thisroom. It's gorgeous, it is.
(45:29):
I did see the night before Isaw Blink. I got home from work
and it was like midnight because Iwas playing in Perth or something and they're
behind it and Mark it said,Mark Oppics has now gone live yep,
and he's backstage wandering around. He'slike, let's go say a lot of
time, a lot of time whenyou know. I spoke about how the
(45:51):
night before was weird was the firstPerth show, which apparently was really Tame
Tame Crowd, and then he wasgoing around Rise against So there's Josh Homie
from Queens of the stone Age andthey're all just hanging out backstage and what
a life. Yes, you know, yeah, because we during like that
that week period we had like blankone two Queens of the stone Age,
(46:14):
Taylor Swift, Matchbox twenty were intown, Pink was in town, Goo
Goo dolls. Really yeah they playedwith Matchbox twenty. Oh yeah, of
course. Yeah, so everyone's intown. Yeah, fun times. But
yeah, Queens Age absolutely enjoyed it. They've they've wrapped up their tour now.
They did an acoustic gig in Tasmaniato raise money for the Children's hospital
(46:37):
in Hobart. So cool. Yeah. They actually you can go online and
they did that on their previous tour. They played at Mona, the Museum
of New and Art and ship.My partner hated it. I thought it's
interesting it's in Tasmania, it's inHobart. But they played for the Yeah.
(46:59):
Yeah, no, that's where theall of vaginas is. Oh really,
there's a wall of vagina casts, all different types, different different types.
You've got like ones you'd see onFacebook ads, You've got others you'd
see on Instagram ads, you know, all all all of the types.
Weird that they had like like asubway roast beef roll there in the roast
(47:23):
beef sandwiches. Christ is born withtens and a big cock. Oh man,
I think we've hit that stage, have we? We got funny enough?
Well we should. We should probablywrap up part one of People Crazy

didn't really think about it. Ohwell, hey, it's like hit and
miss hit miss. Oh. Thisshow is the epitome of hitt and miss.
It's like if your mum stabbed youwouldn't be upset. You'd just been
like mom stabbed me and then goto the hospital. Yeah, exactly stole
(49:58):
that from Chopper again, did no? Did he? He says that in
the movie. Oh okay, solike hitting me, it's kind of like,
you know, Bruce Jenner driving,You're like, this could hit you
and kill you or could miss, but probably the ladder. Anyway, on
