#GoRight with Peter Boykin Commentary
In this #GoRight Commentary, Peter Boykin confronts the backlash heโ€™s faced for defending rainbow crosswalk memorials. Labeled everything from fascist to Marxist, Peter argues this fight is not about paint but about liberty, constitutional rights, and government overreach. When memorials and community-funded projects are erased under the guise of โ€œsafety,โ€ the real question is exposed: who has forgotten what liberty truly means?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is defending rainbow crosswalks really making me a Rhino, a Marxist,
the fascist, the leftist? Or is it exposing who forgot
what liberty means? Welcome back to the hashtag go right
with Peter Boykin commentary. I'm Peter Boykin, founder of Gays
or Trump and now Gays for Liberty and a constitutionalist

(00:23):
for Liberty. Lately, I've been hit with every insult in
the book. I've been called a right wing fascist, a racist,
and a Nazi. And now because I have written article
after article defending rainbow crosswalk memorials, I'm being called a Rhino,
a Marxist, and even a leftist. Why because I dared

(00:46):
to defend liberty when my fellow conservative chose silence our hypocrisy.
What's ironic is that most of the hate and pushback
comes from the very group that I created. Grown since
twenty fifteen, the people within my own group have sadly
proven they do not understand the point. This is the

(01:10):
problem with a community that has taken so much hate
and craziness from the leftist gay community that they are
now essentially stockholmed into being afraid to stand up for
their own constitutional rights as gay citizens. In fact, too
many would rather run back into the closet and be
self hating. I didn't create these groups for that. Folks.

(01:33):
Members who feel this way don't have to leave, but
they must understand that my purpose from the beginning was
to prove that being gay or LGBTQ, whatever you want,
is not a political party, and that our constitutional rights
and individual liberties are not pawns of any political party.

(01:59):
The truth is, I didn't just write one article on
this issue. I wrote many, many in protest, and yes
I repeated myself, but every time I dug deeper, more
facts came out, and every time the story revealed itself
to be worse than what we were told. What began

(02:20):
as a uniform safety excuse was quickly exposed for what
it really was, a political crusade to erase rainbows and
the LGBTQ visibility they represent. And there's gonna be still
people in the comments that are saying, no, it wasn't,
No it wasn't. But here's the articles I wrote. As
the truth unfolding. You can go to go Writeews dot com,

(02:40):
gay Rightnews dot com, gaysfor Trump dot org, and now
Gaysfliberty dot org. But here's the titles of the articles.
Pride is about liberty, not in doctor nation, Why the
Rainbow still matters? Florida's crosswalks, crackdown, safety or erasing liberty,
erasing statues, erasing Rainbow's hypocrisy, and how we treat memorials,

(03:05):
crosswalk crack down or liberty erosion. DeSantis's new law sparks
eighty five thousand dollars bill for Orlando, Florida's war on
crosswalks exposes the hypocrisy behind Cracker Barrel's logo outrage, Erasing
the rainbow, the battle over pulse memory, and the politics

(03:25):
of our memories Florida and Florida Governor DeSantis erased a
rainbow memorial to forty nine murder victims and called it safety.
Are you okay with that? I know, folks, that's a
lot and you will probably get the point from those
article titles. Some call that obsession. I call it consistency

(03:47):
because while others are distracted by labels such as DEI
or woke, I refuse to let the government overreach go unchallenged.
Let me be clear. Let it be clear. Rainbow crosswalks
were not taxpayer boondoggles. They were community funded. They were

(04:11):
crosswalks in grassroots projects. They weren't illegal, they were approved.
And in the case of the Pulse memorial, and I
know it's a mad sureff my memorial and people go,
what Shodn't they have a better memorial. Well, they're working
on it. I know it's a long time, but they've
been working on it. They were in state installed to

(04:36):
honor the forty nine murdered Americans. I know it's not much,
but at least it was something. Now suddenly they are
erased and cities like Orlando are left with eighty five
thousand dollars bills they never asked for. That's not law
in order. That's government coheresion dressed up as traffic policy.

(04:58):
And here's the hypocrisy. Conservatives cheered when they forced Cracker
Barell to abandon its bland logo design. They called it
a victory for tradition and the people's voice. But when
the state of Florida does the same thing to rainbow crosswalks,
suddenly it's quote just the law blandless, you know, blandless.

(05:23):
It's tyranny when it comes from corporations, but somehow liberty
when it comes from the government. That's not principle, that's
partisan convenience. The saddest part is that most critics of
my work won't even read it. They don't read it.
They comment, they skim, they assume, they insult, they ignore

(05:44):
the facts. They don't see the studies proving colorful costwalks
save lives. They don't see the evidence showing that this
was always about targeting rainbows. And they don't see that
collateral damage, school murals, racing stripes, community art is being
erased as well, not just in Florida, all over the
United States. And they don't care. But I care because

(06:07):
liberty is not about choosing which communities get expression in
which don't. Liberty is not about erasing history to a
piece evangelisticals or to score anti WO points. Liberty is principal.
It applies to everyone, or it applies to no one.
This fight was never about safety. The studies proved painted

(06:29):
crosswalks reduced crashes by nearly fifty percent. It was never
about law. F DOT itself approved these projects years ago.
It was never about taxpayers communities paid for. This was
always about targeting rainbows, and the collateral damage was tolerated

(06:51):
because it didn't matter. To those in power. So yes,
I've been repetitive, and I'm hoping this could be the
last chapter, but it probably won't be. And yes, I've
written about it over and over, but only because the
truth kept revealing itself and no one else wanted to

(07:13):
say it. So if standing up for liberty consistency makes
me a Rhino or a Marxist or in someone you know, whatever,
they want to call me in people's eyes, so be it.
I'd rather wear every insult than thrown at me because
I've been doing it for years. Then stay silent while

(07:34):
liberty gets painted over in great because liberty isn't blank,
it's colorful, it's diverse, and it belongs to we, to people.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; โ€œHe paid me to do it.โ€ David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a โ€œliveโ€ investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was Davidโ€™s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, โ€œbrokeโ€ her.โ€ The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run โ€œTrying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.โ€ Thatโ€™s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the howโ€ฆ and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentinaโ€™s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one womanโ€™s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as โ€œThe Corner on Blood.โ€ The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didnโ€™t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one manโ€™s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someoneโ€™s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the directorโ€™s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. โ€œThe Hulkโ€ was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But thatโ€™s all heโ€™d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. โ€œThe guilty have gone free,โ€ he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
