Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Force will be with you always.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hello everyone, Welcome back to another episode up Star Wars
Alliance Go Home on Geek Ultimate Alliance Podcast Network for
any and all things Star Wars. I'm your host as always, Katie,
and joining me is Clay. Clay. I know how you're doing,
but you share what you want to share.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
With it's I have not really made it public as
of yet, and I am okay with making it public
because you know what stuff happens. I am out of
a job currently, I am currently looking for work. It
was very uh sudden, very unforre fortunate, and uh yeah,
(01:02):
that's really it, I will say, you know, looking on
the bright side of things.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yesterday I had even texted you.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I was like, Hey, I have a lot more time
to finish this book we're gonna talk about today. So
I I am in the headspace that I need to
be to of course find a new job.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Looking for that new job.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I have some resources that I'm hopefully tapping into this week,
so I'm not too worried yet. I know that being
unemployed for a long period of time can be very,
very scary because it's happened to me before. That's literally
the reason why I moved up here to Indiana, but.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
I think I think I'll be okay. We we.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Somewhat saw the writing on the wall, just didn't know
it was gonna happened this quickly. Unfortunately, just with the
way management was kind of treating me, I was like, hey,
you know what, if this happens in the future, we'll
just go out with our head up high.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
And it happened literally.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
The week that I had talked to Abby about it,
So yikes. But yeah, with that, guys, we had to get.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It out some Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Well, yeah like it.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
And honestly, like, the whole reason why I got that
job was because of my love for comics, and my
love for comics has not dissipated whatsoever. So I am
still gonna be the same person I was before that
job and after that job. Uh so still my my
(02:55):
my spiel at the end of the episode, you know,
following me for these reasons and that reasons, I'm still
using Blue Sky to push out indie comics creators and
artists that I absolutely love that I have learned to
love through that job.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
So yeah, like it.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
If anything, that job was a stepping stone, and I
do appreciate it for that reason. So yeah, like honestly,
it's like I said, stuff happens and we're gonna move
past it. But we have very minuscule news and rumors.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I would not call one of them rumors.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Uh which one the one right here in the corner here? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, see, no, no, that's the news. Okay, the rumors.
If you see the title here, I don't know if
you saw that.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oh I forgot about that.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So it was a very quick thing that kind of
happened this weekend slash week at the beginning of the week,
and everybody kind of just was like, oh, okay, and
then moved on. There was not a whole lot of
talk about it. There was not a whole lot of
conversations around it. And I think it's basically for the
fact that right now that's how people feel about Star Wars.
(04:22):
And I do think that we have to wait and
see a Star Wars movie again in theaters for people
to actually be willing to have more of a conversation
about future Star Wars movie.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
We have to see the consequences of our actions in
order to go, okay, we can go to the future.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, exactly, exactly, So let's go ahead and talk about
the confirmed news. Yes, especially since I just got done
watching probably one of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who,
which is in the new season. By the way, I
have not seen all of the new season. Don't worry.
(05:05):
The ending episode already got spoiled for me. Absolutely hate it,
but I hate that. I hate that it got spoiled
for me. I don't know the context of it, but
it will be whatever it is when I finally see it.
But I just finished watching the Well this season, which
(05:28):
references my actual favorite episode in all of Doctor Who,
and so and I can't even say it because it
literally like spoils the reveal in the episode.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
But yeah, Like, I'm ready to talk about Doctor Who.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Because Matt Smith is getting another chance at Star Wars.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yes, y'all. Deadline landed the report, and this has been
rumored that he was up for this role, but Deadline
landed the report that he will be portraying the villain
or a villain role in Star Wars Starfighter, the movie
(06:15):
by Sean Levy with Ryan Gosling as our hero. This
report also confirms the rumor that Mia Goth had been
cast in this movie as well, but not in what
role because She was rumored to be hunted for the
villain role as well. Yes, so unknown if they split
(06:40):
or if there's two villains which could possibly be or
if she's.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Now playing there's always too.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Now I I I love this.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I love this, but I also kind of hate this.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Okay, speak your mind. I want to hear. I want
to hear your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
We have a lot of white people in this.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Movie, yes, now?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Oh wait, no, I'm thinking about the Daisy Ridley movie.
Hold on, yeah, a whole it's a it's a lot
of white I totally understand. I will need a very strong,
diverse supporting cast.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yes, absolutely, And I think with Sean Levy that's my
only hesitation. I haven't I've seen some of his stuff obviously,
but like, haven't seen a whole lot of diversity in
what I've seen. So that's my big worry.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Now.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
The only I am I The only two things that
I have seen I believe from Sean Levy is, of course,
uh Deadpool three and what was that Netflix?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
The Adam Projects, The Adam Project. Now in the Atom Project.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Zoe Zeldana True was in that movie and she was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Now, you can't tell me that you haven't seen Cheaper
by the Dozen O, yes, yes, yes, but the Pink Panther.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I actually have never.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Seen the Pink Panther with uh uh uh Steve uh
Steve Wart.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah. Yeah, that's how I developed my love of movies.
Is that's one of my dad's favorite movies. Y'all?
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, no, I I have never seen Pink Panther.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I have seen Cheaper by the Dozen. I was gonna say, though,
Cheaper by the Dozen also very white?
Speaker 2 (08:51):
So yes, uh Night at the Museum.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Oh that is true. That is true love Night at
the Musum.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
And then Free Guy, so hey, yeah, I have also
seen Free Guy, but Free Guy was also.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Very white.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Hopefully the powers that we go, Hey, can we cast
diversity please?
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:18):
And like I'm talking like good actors and stuff like,
it doesn't have to be diversity for diversity sake.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
But I will also say this, do not choose people
of color.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Just to make up the shit out of them and
make them an alien.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
I don't want it.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
That was about what I was going to say too.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I love this casting though. When he was rumored for
Episode nine, which I did not find out until later
that he was going to be the villain and duel
of the Faiths. I had my heart broken over that.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
I like I I will tell you this U, Mats
Smith was my doctor. He is the one that I
jumped in on doctor who I will say my favorite
doctor now is Peter Capaldi. But Matt Smith is my doctor.
(10:18):
He is the one that produced me to the universe,
and so I have been super excited to see him
in anything that he jumps in on. And when I
heard that he was being latched onto Star Wars, I
about squealed like a like a freaking thirteen year old
(10:42):
that a Justin Bieber concert like.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I was a static to see.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
This man possibly like either be just like a disgustingly
like political villain. More possibly somebody that would wield a
lightsaber like just those two thoughts in my mind. Yea,
(11:07):
the acting range on both of those types of characters
would be absolutely amazing for Master.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
And I think as Damon in the House of the Dragon,
I think he's proved himself in the sword fighting capabilities.
Obviously sword and lightsaber not so similar, but not so
dissimilar either, so but I.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Do think that he would be capable and trainable.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
To get that kind of you know, movement with a
lightsaber and stuff like that, if they so choose to
put him on that path for this movie Starfighter, for
all we know, is about a pilot.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
We don't know much else about this movie whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
So yeah, I am excited to see how this turns out.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
So yeah, I'm I'm super excited.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
I'm really happy for Matt and especially, like like I said,
for me to also be jumping back into Doctor Who.
Also boo on WB for apparently getting rid of all
of Doctor Who on HBO Max.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
I think that was.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Their contract though I think BBC's contract was up.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Oh really okay, yeah, okay, because I was like, I
also don't really like I could see wb just being like, yeah,
just get rid of it, sell it to somebody else
and have it on some other streaming service and us
get some of the revenue for it.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
We're all good. I can totally see them doing that.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, it hasn't made an appearance on another streaming service
because my sister texted me was like, where is Doctor Who.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I have seen people that were like literally in the
middle of an episode where it like gave them the
spinning wheel of death in the middle of an episode.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Yeah, because I don't think it was very publicized.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
So not at all. But yeah, that is the news
for Matt Smith in Star Wars. Uh, now we move on.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Let's knock out the other one so that we have
in the chat before that's true.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Let me let me grab the rumors.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
All right, y'all, we are gonna hit our first ad
break and we will be right back in three two one. So,
Lucasfilm has announced that it will have a year long
celebration of the original Star Wars in twenty twenty seven
to celebrate fifty years of Star Wars. We have talked
about this, fifty years is coming.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
We know.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Tom for Random House World has said, oh crap, we
did forty years with from a certain point of view,
Now what are we gonna do for fifty years?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
So you got any predictions? What do you think? What
do you think is gonna happen? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Book wise, we it's obvious. And this was part of
the announcement that the A New Hope n was going
back to theaters for the fifty Some people are saying
that the press release from Star Wars dot Com set
indicates that it's going to be the original versions.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
I was literally just about to ask you, what do
you think it is?
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I I don't know, because I could, Like George Lucas
was very clear he never wanted but he sold his rights.
But if all these crazy fanboys out in the galaxy
want to pay attention to George Lucas's word above everything else,
George Lucas never wanted the original versions to see the
light of day after he made the special editions.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Yeah, that's true. That is very no.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I could see both ways. I don't have a prediction.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
I am okay with watching either because yes, I will
be going back to the movie theater, just like I
did with Revenge of the Sith, I will be going back.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
To go see A New Hope because.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
A New Hope is the only Star Wars movie I
have seen Impire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
both in theaters. Really small towns had nothing else to
view over the weekends and so they just literally put
them on their theater in the theater. A New Hope
(15:36):
is literally the only movie that I have not seen
Star Wars wise in a theater.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
So I think that would be very very fun to do.
But yeah, for.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Me, I will go ahead and predict. I will predict
a video game announcement for the fifth fieth, not a release.
I'm not saying a video game will release on the
fifth anniversary. I will say that a video game will
be released or sorry, a video game will be announced,
(16:11):
whether that be the third installment of the uh uh yeah,
the Fallen Order? Is it Fallen Order?
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Yeah, Fallen Order Survivor.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Yeah, Following Order Survivor with calkestis.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, maybe maybe that gets announced or maybe something entirely different.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
And possibly even updates, you know.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
But we also have to remember next year is the
fiftieth anniversary. The very next year is Star Wars Celebration.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
So not next year is the fiftieth anniversary. It's twenty
twenty seven, so this is two years.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Oh it is okay, Sorry, yeah, I thought it was
next year, so it is the exact same year then.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
So yeah, I think you can literally predict.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Anything and it could possibly come true, because not only
are they gonna have the entire year to announce this stuff,
but they solely have Star Wars Celebration as well.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
I'm going to say that we do I want to
go bold? Do I want to go bold? Here? The
last time I went bold with celebration predictions. I got
it right. So am I gonna be two for two?
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Hm?
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Is there a possibility?
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Because we got a little crumbs of it?
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Do we finally see either an origin or the early
days of Yoda? Are they ready to say it? Are
they ready to give us that story?
Speaker 3 (18:20):
We got an inkling of it in the Mace Window
comment or in the Mace Window Book.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Do you think that we are ready for it?
Speaker 3 (18:29):
On the fiftieth anniversary of Star Wars.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Here's what I think is going to happen. I think
the Mandin Grogu movie is going to end on a cliffhanger.
This has been something that I've thought about for a while. Okay,
I'm thinking Mandoin Grogu is going to end on a cliffhanger,
and there's going to be another Yoda species and they're
(18:58):
going to be like Grogu, I finally found you because
it's a.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Clichi No, no, okay, no, no, I don't like it.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
I don't like it. I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I really think that's what's gonna happen. It's gonna go
back to Hey, Dan Jarn wants to return Grogu to
his people and we got sidetracked because of the Jedi,
but we know yoda species is long lived. Who's to
say that his parents can't still be around.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't
like it.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
So that would lead you. It would be because they've
talked about mantoin Grogu being a trilogy and reigniting the
Star Wars passion. You have a trilogy where you find
Yoda's homeworld.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, Like, like, I like the possibility,
but I don't like the execution, you know, like, and I'm.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Not saying that's going to be the execution.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
No, no, no, no, I get it, I get it, But like,
could you imagine like literally just dinjar It and Grogu
just walking in some town and then you just hear
a voice say, Groogu, I finally found you, and the
camera freaking turns and it's.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
Who you think is Yoda or somebody, and you're just
like what the fuck? Like, oh no, Well, and.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
It's gonna be like Rebels where the second movie they
go on the journey to find the planet and like,
but then they don't end up finding it until the
third movie, and so the final scene of the third
movie is dingjar and leaving Grogu behind, and then you
skip a bit and everything, and he finally gets on
a ship and he's like, well, I guess it's just
(20:56):
you and me again. And then he goes take off
and you see grow pop out of the little droid
cabana thing in the Naboo Starfighter and he's like, you're
not going anywhere without me, daddy.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Oh no, oh, no, okay, I don't want to talk
about this anymore.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
I don't like it. I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
On that note, the next part of our news guys, So,
the the William Shakespeare retellings of the Star Wars movies
are famous, infamous. I've never read one.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I honestly, every single time I passed them in the
island at Barnes and Noble, yeah, I always really consider it.
I'm like, do I need to waste my money on this?
Because honestly, I love Star Wars, but I truly feel
like this would be a waste of money.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
And that's why I've never picked it up either, because
I always had I've always had issues with old English
and like poetry, I is the name of the game
for Shakespeare.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
You know what, you make this into an audiobook? Boom.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Not only would I buy the audiobook, I would buy
the actual physical book to follow along with it. Do it, Lucasfilm,
do it? Random House World? Whoever actually published this? Who
published these?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
I don't think it's Random House World who published these.
Let's see, because I think it's on here William Shakespeare showers. Yep, here,
it is William Shakespeare's Star Wars. Uh three hours and
twenty nine minutes, William Shakespeare's The Jedi Docts Return.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Wait? Is there actual audiobooks of this?
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yep? On audible? There?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Do you know what that means? That means that are
on libby.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
I'm I'm literally going to look this up right now.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
And it says unabridged, so damn it. What?
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Oh wait, it is unabridged. Okay, it is. I'm forgetting
that the abridged ones are the shorter ones. That's right,
That's right, all right, William Shakespeare's Star Wars literally right here.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Okay, Oh damn it, it's only the book. It's not
the it's the audible, damn it. Okay, that means that
I'm actually gonna have to you know, get some money
out of this, and and and and buy it.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
I can check also check if it's on leebro dot FM.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah, but yeah, like I I actually really like this
for the Mando verse because.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
I I love a gimmick.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
I absolutely love a gimmick such as speaking of Matt Smith,
I'm pretty sure Matt Smith was also in the movie
that was like Shakespeare in Zombies.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Or something like that.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
There's something along the lines of like was it Shakespeare
in Zombies or Jane Austen in Zombies?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
There was something I could see Jane Austen.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
There was something like that.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Okay, we're just gonna look for Matt Smith. God, I
love the long hair like look on him. Not the
doctor who long hair looked, but like the.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Pride and prejudice in Zombies. Yes, he was in that movie.
I like the idea of pride and prejudice in zombies
sounds really really stupid, but I bet you what do
you think I would get a really good laugh out
of that movie, which you can literally watch it on Hulu.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
And or Disney Plus.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
By the way, Okay, so.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
If anybody is curious, I have.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Ever seen it. I've read the book, so.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Well, yeah, I just think that things like this because
there there is something for everybody, right, Yes, there's this
idea that if somebody likes a certain medium, the only
way they would be able to touch Star Wars. Like we've
talked about this in visions. We've talked about this literally envisions.
(25:37):
The only way that some anime fans are actually watching
Star Wars content is through visions. And so the only
way some you know, hardcore Shakespearean nerd is reading Star
Wars is through these novels. And I'm for it, Like,
(26:01):
I think it's really cool.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah, but I don't mind this at all. What's over.
I just know it's not for me. Ye, So, and
I think that's okay. In the long, in the grand
scheme of things, I buy enough Star Wars to keep
Star Wars and business exactly. We're gonna go into our
second ad break and we'll be right back, all right.
(26:25):
So the last bit of news that we had, so
Manny Jacinto is doing interviews for his upcoming movie Freakier Friday,
which comes out this week, and so he got asked
about returning as Kimer. He said, I would love to
run it back. I love that character that franchised that team.
(26:47):
If the fans want it, I'm down and ready to go.
Not really news he said this a bunch, but because
it's the Accolyte, I just we had to share this.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Yeah, And honestly, I think that.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
With conversations surrounding even like Fantastic Four, learning that there
has been so much cut people like some of the
very first comments about Fantastic Four having a longer cut
was like, Zack Snyder fans.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
How do we get this to happen? Blah blah blah.
And it's just like there was a huge, huge following
for of course Accolyte season two.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
And I will now that Zack Snyder's Justice League literally exists,
I cannot say, well, I can rightfully, so I don't
think I can fairly say.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
No, like this isn't gonna happen. Never say never.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
We've seen a pipe dream literally happen, so anything can happen,
And especially like in the world, in a universe, in
a galaxy so immersed in other pieces of media like
Star Wars, We've already gotten two novels in.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
The somewhat timespan window of The Acolyte.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
MHM.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Who's to say that we cannot get season two.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Of the Acolyte in some way, shape or form that
isn't the live action series.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Correct corect Yeah, and now I hate to backtrack this,
but I was looking for the Daniel RpK Report, and
so I went on Star Wars news Net and I
found some additional details from the one and only Jeff Snyder.
Lovely the potential of Matt Smith's character, he said, and
(28:57):
this is so cheesy, but like, I can't blame him
for this. I'm told that the force won't be with Smith,
who is playing some kind of military general in the film,
which takes place five years after the events of Star
Wars Episode nine, to the rest of Skywalker. He confirms
that na Goth will also be playing the villain, a
(29:19):
villain in this chasing after a teenage character who will
be protected by the film's protagonist, played by Ryan Gosling.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
So I mean even so, like I even said it myself.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Political through area not a bad thing.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Yeah, Like, I still think that Matt Smith is going
to eat up that. Guys look at me as long
as its character and he ate up that and that
was horrible he did.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
But I don't I needed to clarify this too. I
don't want that type of villain. He ate up the role,
but it was poorly written, so it was poorly.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Now if it is correctly written well correct, I think
he could eat up the scene.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Yes, and I have a little more faith with the
writing of Sean Levy than I did with Morbius exactly.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yeah but uh.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Going back to that list of potential rumors from the
rb K, it says here plans for the Post's episode
nine era or eight era or yeah sorry, nine era.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Have reportedly been revealed. It will be similar to the
Mando verse.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
With multiple stories. The first story will be Daisy Ridley's
new Jedi Order.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Which is interesting because Starfighter is shooting first and it's
in the same time frame.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Yeah, but again, people always separate numerical movies from Star
Wars stories.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
A Star Wars story exactly.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
And then the third bullet point on this is it
will build toward a culmination or culminating event that will
bring back old characters.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Now, which is interesting, I feel like because I feel
like they're doing the same thing with mandovers, so they're saying, Okay,
Nando work ish mm hmm, we can discuss that.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Loop, so.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
It'll work with Post episode nine stuff and basically going, Okay,
let's do the same exact thing. I don't necessarily mind
this take.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
I don't mind it either. But the only worry that
I have the old characters. No, no, no, it's the fact.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
It's the fact that Disney, especially with Star Wars, is
always trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Always
they're like, oh, that's perfect, Let's do it again. Oh
(32:22):
that's not perfect. Let's try it again for the first attempt. Okay,
that's not good. Let's try it again. But this time
it's gonna be the third attempt. But we're still trying
to replicate that first attempt. Okay, that one was good,
but it could be better. Let's try to do it again.
And it's just like, guys, like, there is different ways
(32:44):
to tell a story. You don't have to stay on
this track of what you think success is for Star
Wars yep. And that can be a big worry within
itself because if that first movie doesn't do well, I
know for a fact, Disney and Lucasfilm are gonna say, oh,
(33:07):
that didn't work, throw it all away.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Yep. And it's especially sad when you look because like
even fantastic for right now, like you and Okay, this
is gonna jump all over the place. But I saw
a video about Resident Evil the other day, and I've
never seen the Resident Evil stuff. So I went on
a rabbit hole down Resident Evil because I thought it
looked interesting, and I was like, Okay, Resident Evil got
(33:33):
six movies with horrible, like not even close to similar results,
better budgets, But in today's society, that would have gotten canceled.
Second movie.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
What the thing with Resident Evil was it had big
names at the time. Let's just go ahead and say
that again, big names for the time, and in that
pocket of the six movies there was this huge craze
(34:11):
for vampires, wear woes and zombies mm hm. And so
that's what was That's what Resident Evil was able to
ride the way for for those six films.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
And essentially Resident Evil had the almost same effect as
like Fast and Furious does, which I absolutely hate.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
It's the turn your brain off type of movie. Yeah,
people are just like, ooh, this is fun.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
And just like throw their money away at But yeah,
if that was made today, it would get canceled. Which
is literally why every Resident Evil project since then has
been canceled after either the first movie and or the
first movie because they don't do great Now, yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
It's it's just the way it is.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Yeah, So I just it. It definitely sucks, and I
wish that they would go, okay, like, let's be willing
to experiment, because the whole thing with Fantastic Four is like,
Fantastic Four was a decent movie and to most people
that would have gone, Okay, let's see where this goes.
(35:28):
But with how harsh today's movie climate is, like, it
just gets cut off at the wayside, which is where
I think studios really should reconsider the TV initiatives that
were going strong for four years. Because Matt and I
spent two hundred dollars to go to Superman between the
(35:50):
tickets and the babysitter, and we went separately to Fantastic
Four and that still cost us fifty bucks, Like yeah,
so that's not something that like most families nowadays, especially
with inflation, can handle, and so integrating, Okay, we could
have a climactic movie, but recognizing, hey, movie theaters are
(36:16):
not going to bring you in the money that it
used to. Like if Matt and I could go back
to Regal unlimited we probably would, but that still doesn't
save us the babysitter cost every movie. So more like
more than likely Matt and I are going to go
back to Okay, we're waiting till things come to streaming,
(36:37):
or we can rent it at our own pace kind
of thing. And I think that's what most families are
sticking with, and studios are going to recognize that four
years from now and go, Okay, what do we do
better now?
Speaker 3 (36:50):
And it's well, especially like the well, I'm not entirely sure, Katie,
because isn't.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
There well, no, no, just for the fact that isn't.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
There still like heavy reports that like there are some
streaming services that are now interested in buying like theater
chains and stuff like that. Maybe I can't remember that.
I think that's a while. I need to look and
see again. It was either streaming services or studios that
(37:23):
were looking to build their own theaters, and I'm like,
I don't know if that's like going to solve the problem.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
But it's also.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
You know, making us learn that studios aren't learning their lesson,
which is.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Why I said they're going to learn four years from
now that this isn't working instead of hey, let's look
at what's happening right now. Yeah, because right now all
fantastic foward to them is is tax recovery and money
Like they're just going to take all that loss and
put it into the taxes.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Yeah, yeah, very true.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
And we're to jump into our third ad, y'all. We promise,
we'll be right back. We promise.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
And to go back to your first comment when I
when I said that, I, you know, was a little
worried about this. You mentioned the old characters, and I
think it was Chris in the g uh chat that
made this joke.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
He was like, oh yeah, old characters with AI.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
I am a little worried, very little, because again I
did say in the Gua Geek first Crossover that with
the recasting that they did for and or for Bail Organa,
(38:45):
that opens the door for Lucasfilm and Star Wars to say, hey,
we're okay with recasting.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yep, at least I hope so.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
And that's why I hope, like, hey, if all of
these people decide not to jump on board with this,
that they can just be like, Okay, we will get
somebody new and they'll be your character, you know, because hell,
even Kevin Feigey came out and said, hey, you know,
rebooting is a very scary word, but you know, eventually
(39:22):
we have to bring back some of these characters because
that's just how Marvel Comics is. And so we will
assume that these characters will be recast because Chris Evans,
Robert Jenny Junior, all of these other actors are not
going to be able to play these characters forever.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah, but I think the difference here, and it's something
that we go back to with Star Wars a lot,
is it's a timeline. This is not Star Wars has
not been retold dozens of times from in the same
area like Marvel has. Marvel goes back and says, okay,
(40:00):
like time travel, Whibley Wobsley.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Yeah, this is status quo or whatever. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Star Wars has not proven that that's a concept yet.
And you could say, oh, well, they've done World between
Worlds like that is a concept. I don't know if
they would take it to that extreme though, because even
Dave Filoni, when Ezra and Ahsoka were in the World
between Worlds, Dave Filoni's stuck by, Hey, you can't pull
(40:30):
Cannon out of this because otherwise stuff hits the fan like, yeah,
so at least we know that Dave Filoni has set
that precedent, but he has also proven that his precedence,
he learns and improves. So I don't really know what's
(40:53):
going to happen. I would hope the old characters that
they're talking about are sequel trilogy care that are still alive.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
That's what I assumed.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Also, by the way, guys, I assumed that if they
were in Rise of Skywalker mm hmm, then they will
be a part of.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
This new trilogy.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Yeah, Like, I don't think of anybody outside of Rise
of Skywalker mm hm, honestly, and.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
I think a lot of people when you say old
characters though, that says, oh, we can pull anybody.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Han Luke Skywalker, you know all these Yeah, I understand
that with that though, like I I, I do hope
truly that they have learned their lesson.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
With the AI thing. I know that, you know, technically,
I don't know if it was Disney or Lucasfilm.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Separately, but of course you know, James Earl Jones signed
off on the AI version of his voice.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
Mm hmm, so they can continue to.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Use that for Darth Vader in any and all separate projects,
but like, outside of that, like I truly hope, like, hey,
let's just move on from these characters that are too
old to play the roles that you wish to just
keep in a very timeless situation when that's not possible.
(42:32):
But yeah, that's that's all I gotta say about that.
You got anything else, Katie, I do not.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
I'm gonna step away for a quick second and I
come back. We'll talk about a Crystal Crown. Yeah, all right,
and this should be our final ad break. So y'all,
thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
right back. But Clay, are you ready to talk about
Tessa Gratton's newest Star Wars book?
Speaker 4 (43:05):
I am ready.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
So The Crystal Crown Guys is a book by Tessa Gratton.
It released last Tuesday, so the twenty ninth of July
twenty twenty five, and Tessa Gratten, we interviewed about this book,
said that she took a lot of inspiration from Hunger
Games and wanted to try and bring that into Star Wars.
(43:34):
And I would say she killed it.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
It's funny that you say that because I have never.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
Read any interviews with any of these writers. As I
was literally reading this, I sent you a text and
I said, Wow, this is very Master and Apprentice, which
also had a ceremonial like event happened that was similar
(44:12):
to this. And then as I was reading like into
like the mid chapters, you know, fifteen to twenty eight,
I said to myself, Wow, now this is really starting
to feel like Hunger Games type stuff. So I'm glad
(44:34):
that what she inevitably wanted the feeling to be was
something that I literally felt. Yeah, so I think she
did nail it. I think it was just a perfect
way or perfect style of writing, especially for the two
characters that she wrote in here.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah, and this book on the cover has uh Jackie
and Yord. And realistically though, I would say this book
is about.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
Jackie, yes, in our actual like talk about this, yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
Yeah, and Ord still has his moments and he's like
the secondary side character. Like, so we have Jackie Yrd
and then all of your other side characters involved and whatnot.
And I don't mind that because I feel like in
(45:32):
The Acolyte, Jackie showed the most promise with her future
and so getting we still get to know about both
of them. But I liked. I liked getting more Jackie.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
In this mm hmm, I I liked it as well.
There was moments here and I think I didn't put
a whole lot of No.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
I didn't either. I only had time to read it once.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
Uh same here, but I did have some notes here.
Let me see if I can actually find those notes.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
By the way, So in this, guys, there's basically like
three we come to this planet because there has been
issues with negotiations the planet. I can't I can't remember
the planet's name for the life of me.
Speaker 4 (46:32):
Oh yeah, let me grab that also.
Speaker 2 (46:34):
Okay, So the planet produces a material that's necessary for
hyperspace travel, and so they want to join the Republic,
and so the Republic has sent Jedi and political ambassadors
to this planet to try and negotiate the terms for
Senate representation. YadA, YadA, YadA. And so the Jedi, the
(46:59):
previous representation to screwed up and he's stuck by the
Jedi way of hey, we don't fight unless we absolutely
have to. This planet is very much a combated to
not combative, but like they want you to show strength.
And this dual the Jedi was challenged was not to
(47:20):
the death, but it was against his standpoints, and so
the culture and the people were highly offended when this
Jedi declined to fight the council member.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
I am seeing I am seeing the alien race, but
I'm not seeing the planet.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
Okay, say the race.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Uh Saline Celeni. Oh my gosh, I can't even pronounce it.
I don't even know how I was saying it in
my head when I was reading this. It's like s
I L e in, It's like knees.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
But Selene. Let's just say Selene.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
Oh yeah, So somebody says here when I die here
on Saline, s I l I n e Saline.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Okay, we could go with Saline. The audiobook is not
out yet, guys. It is not the end of October.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
So mad.
Speaker 3 (48:18):
I have I have voiced my frustrations with Katie earlier
last week about this. Uh, it is ridiculous, but it
is what it is.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
It is what it is, So what excuse us if
we mispronounced something because we don't know, we have no idea.
So the Saline are basically a very warrior esque culture,
and as time has progressed, they go, Okay, we don't
want to kill everybody, because that's just then going to
terrace apart. So they have changed rituals so that it
(48:54):
still shows strong the strong. It showcases the strong and
sets them up for success in the culture by becoming
future members of the Council, et cetera. And so there's
three trials, So we have the trial of strength, the
(49:15):
Trial of survival in then the trial of the hunting basically,
and so d Yord and Jackie I was compating their
names get invited to participate as basically a way of
winning back the faith of these people. Yes, and that's
(49:40):
really all plot wise.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
Yeah, I mean it was. I will say this, I
adored this book. The beginning took a little bit to
really kind of catched me. It was a bit a
little bit on the slow side.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
But once things started to really ramp up, once we
got to really meet our other three characters that our
heroes kind of surround themselves with.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Ye, and there are other.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Soliinese people, yeah, Selions is basically yeah, And I really
dug the way that we learned about the evolution of
these people and planet, because when we read any and
(50:43):
all other Star Wars books, it is always, hey, this
is what the planet is, and these are how the
planet and these how are the how the people are?
We never sit down and learn about the different species
in Star Wars, Yep, we got a history and that
(51:09):
was fun. I love this because also, guys, remember what
part of the timeline we were in, because there is
something like near closer, like I want to say, like
literally right at the beginning of the third act, like
right before the third act, at the tail end of
(51:32):
act two, there is a review.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
Yes, the blight shows up, and.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
It's not the consequences, it's.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
The remnants of the blight.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
It is what I what I absolutely love is we know,
because we've read Trouser of the Jedi, how that is
being dealt with, how that is correcting itself within the universe.
Now knowing that this book takes place one hundred years
(52:09):
after Trials of the Jedi.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
Because they even said it, oh, you know, this is
what happened to this planet one hundred years ago. They
say that knowing that and knowing the blight is still around, Yeah, they.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Tessa Gratton are like, she's very artistically showcases that, Hey,
we are seeing it heal and you can see new
growth populating on the edge. Like they call it the
badlands and so you can see that there's new growth
populating on the edges, and so it is healing.
Speaker 4 (52:51):
But it like the oh.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
Gosh, I can't remember the actual name of the Nameless.
I'm just gonna call them nameless if the name was
said on sofos Hey, this is going to take decades,
if not centuries to recover. Like there is no immediate
fix to this. Like, so seeing that is really kind
of cool.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
It's the Shriek Ride by the way.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
Oh yeah, duh, I knew that, but yeah, no.
Speaker 4 (53:23):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
We kind of get like a of course a timeline,
but like we asked ourselves when we finished that book,
how long is this going to take? Like is it
a rapid thing? Is it not a rapid thing? Well,
we know that it's not around during this time of
the timeline, so like when is it finally finished and
stuff like that. So, like the crazy thing to think
(53:47):
about is the newer parts of Star Wars that we're watching,
which is allah the Mando Worse and it's going to
be the the sequels trilogy. They could still show us
(54:09):
parts of the galaxy that are not fully healed, and
it would just blow our minds.
Speaker 4 (54:17):
And it would still make sense.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
Because there is no actual verbiage of how long it'll
take yep, because of because we know Star Wars is
literally such a vast galaxy yeh, which I think is
really really fun and really really cool. One of my
notes is, uh Yrd has literally the funniest line in
(54:47):
this entire novel. We have a character here who is
like the most badass silent ease.
Speaker 4 (55:02):
Her name is.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Uh Cia Cetia Satai. Uh let me actually grab that again.
Speaker 4 (55:13):
Uh I both.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
Have physical versions, which makes things.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
Harder to t I A Setia.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
All right, y'all, we are gonna hit our first ad
break and we will be right back in three two one.
Speaker 3 (55:28):
Cetilla is the daughter of basically the person in charge
of this planet uh currently the all Voice as they
call them. But she is also the strongest warrior and
but she's very flirtatious with with Yord.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
And first off, I want to I want to.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Say that this uh these people, uh, they are very
unique in the way that they're bodies are.
Speaker 4 (56:03):
They are crystalline. They have yes, little crystals in their bones.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
It's just the way they are as a race, and
so like they have these crystals in their teeth, they
have them around their eyes that have them protruding through
their heads like just everywhere. And she is like, she
has this like very flirtatious ness towards the RD every
(56:38):
single time she's around him.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
And there's at one moment she gets like really close
up to him, kind of caresses his chin.
Speaker 3 (56:46):
She's like, oh, I could kiss you, and he just says,
dead stop, please don't. He just like it's just straight.
The funny thing is is I can imagine that actor
in all of his awkwardness that he does seem like
in the ACTLTE and I could just see him just
dead face, please don't.
Speaker 4 (57:07):
I thought that was so funny. I laughed so hard.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
It was amazing. Still seeing her flirt with him after
it was hysterical.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
And I think she does it on purpose because, like
he I said this in our review of the act,
like and I and I still hold true to that.
In a sense, Yord is like Anakin Skywalker adjacent.
Speaker 4 (57:36):
Yep, he is very much that type of character.
Speaker 3 (57:43):
But it's so funny to see somebody like an Anakin
Skywalker be so flirtatious with that of Patame, but then
seeing Yord as much as he is like a stickler
for the rules and wanting to be the best Jedi
he could be. And so like when there's this person
(58:07):
that is like trying to like tease him and like
egg him on on certain things, I thought that was
so fun. It was just something to kind of ease
the tension in so many situations that they were in
in this book.
Speaker 2 (58:23):
Yeah, and especially getting to see how Yord was like
still being like a stickler, how she played on like, oh,
he steams his robes. Like he's steaming his robes like
three or four times. That was everything.
Speaker 3 (58:39):
He was so like he was kind of a germophobe.
I think he took like three or four baths in
this book.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Uh, the entire time.
Speaker 3 (58:51):
And then like you see Jacky and you have to
remember these two individuals, Jord and Jackie. Uh, they're both
Padawans at this time when we first meet your in
the Acolyte, he is not a Padawan.
Speaker 4 (59:04):
He is a Knight. We know that he is.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
He is a further along padawan in this book, but
he is like wanting to take his trials to become
a Knight. And that's kind of like a small like
b plot or maybe even see your d plot in
this book. Whereas Jackie, she's kind of fresh, she's new,
(59:31):
she's learning a whole bunch of stuff, and she is
the type of character who.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
Is very eager to learn.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
Yeah, every little thing that she is introduced to on
this planet, she like meets it with a smile, and
she's very ant seen like giddy, and she's like, ooh,
something new, Okay, teach me, teach me, teach me. She's
always asking questions and things like that. I really adore Jackie,
of her so much I I would not mind another
(01:00:08):
story with Jackie.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Yes, the down side, I'll go ahead and tell you this.
So I had to look this up because so this
book takes place in one thirty four. Bby the Acolyte
takes place in one thirty two. There's not a lot
(01:00:31):
of time.
Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
No, no, no, there's another Jackie story.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
And that was the thing, guys. So one thing I
also wanted to bring up. I think I actually have.
I don't know if I have the exact page number.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
Uh oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
It took one hundred and thirty pages until the very
first mention of Osha. Osha was mentioned in this book
on page one hundred and thirty so again, we're just
trying to take those little, you know, seedlings from the
actual source material. And then at the very end of
(01:01:07):
this book spoilers, Ord and Jackie are like, oh, yeah,
let's do this when we're both Jedi knights, and I'm
just like, ah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
And there was so many death jokes in here too,
like Tesla plays around with them, yeah and.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Like, and they both say it. It's like, oh, okay, ye, like,
we'll do this as long as it doesn't kill me. Okay,
we'll do this as long as it doesn't kill me.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
And they both say it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
A lot of dark humor uh in in that sense. So,
Tessa Gratton, I love you. We have the same mindset.
We're good to go.
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
It was it was fun.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Like it's a little you know, haha, play on words,
wink kind of thing, and I appreciate that kind of thing,
especially if, like, let's say, somebody who hasn't seen The
Acolyte has decided, hey, I want to read some novels
in chronological order. Okay, let's read this book and then hey,
let's watch The Acolyte and be like, bro, what I
(01:02:13):
would love that for somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
My gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
So another note, that I have is oh, I already
said that this is very much Master and Apprentice coded.
Speaker 4 (01:02:31):
I loved all of the combat.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Again talking about the evolution of these people learning that Okay,
well we aren't permitted to kill, but as long as
you bleed, you're out.
Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
Like we're in with that, right.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
And one of the big things that we have not
mentioned in these in this thing called the Convocation, Ord
and Jackie were permitted not only to get on the
good graces of this planet for the Republic, but you know,
people were like, well, they're Jedi, they're paddle ones. That's
(01:03:12):
a little unfair if they if they are the ones
to be in this, and they're like, okay, we're gonna
take away your lightsabers and you can't use the force yep.
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
And that's a big deal for both of these characters.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
I would say it's a bigger deal for Yord than
it is because he wants to play by the rules, right,
and so he's told this, but he struggles with it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
And and that's why I say both because there's a
moment where Yord is like this isn't fair, like well,
you know, technically, blah blah blah, and like there's like
almost this argumentative like internal thing.
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
With Yord that's like, oh, well, you know, it's a natural.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Thing and blah blah blah blah, whereas with Jackie, she's
like cool. Like, to begin with, I will say this,
to begin with, Jeckie is on.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
Board with everything.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
The only thing that they're both not cool with immediately
is the absence of the lightsaber.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, because and I think it was good for them
to not have this and go, Okay, what can I
do to solve it without it?
Speaker 4 (01:04:29):
Well, I think personally, oh go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
No, go ahead, Well, I think it was good to
not have it personally because there is a moment like
a really like it's one of those moments like for
those of you who have seen that of like Superman,
it is almost like the bridge scene where you get
(01:04:55):
all goosebumps and like, ah, so in this book, there's
a moment wh when a lightsaber is finally.
Speaker 4 (01:05:02):
Used and you're just like.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
Like I got so excited, I got so pumped, and
I'll go ahead and like kind of tease it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
The moment is Jackie throws the lightsaber to yourd.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
And she's like, oh, I don't need it, and then
she starts using the Force, and that's what I'm more
like giddy and excited about, yeah, because it's like she
goes super Saiyan, like she she was holding all of
this in and she's like, this isn't even my final
form and she starts using it, and that was a
(01:05:43):
really big thing for her. Is like it her with
the way that she is as an individual, you see
her in the very beginning. Like that's because there's also
like I'm getting all of these other like pop culture
references into this book Far from Home, Spider Man, the
(01:06:03):
Peter Tingle when he's on the bridge and he's using
the Spider scenes for the very first time, like legitimately,
there's a moment like Jackie is using the Force like that,
and I'm just like, ah, this is so cool. But
in that scene where they're fighting this like crazy monster creature,
(01:06:23):
she's like, screw it, Like I know that there's probably
cameras out here that are gonna see me using the
Force right now, but in this instance, I have to
use it or we're all gonna die. And so she
throws the lightsaber to Yord and she just like lets
it all in. She starts to feel her surroundings to do.
Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Like, it was so cool. I absolutely love that scene.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
It was the best and Gotten did an incredible job
with that moment, especially, like it was one of my
favorite moments of the book. I'm sitting there like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
Like it's just so good. We have to talk about
the graph in this book.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
He is a pretty vague part of they sorry, You're
one hundred percent correct. They are a very big part
of this story. And I love how they.
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
Call upon their like history with Jackie and like, because
everybody knows a graph, right, everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Knows a graph.
Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
And they explained to Jackie it's like, oh, well, they
everybody knows a graph because of politics, because of lots
of money, because of all of this, because of murder.
And she's like, oh, but you can't prove it or
can't and like that freaks her out even more. Like
I love that because it was a play on what
(01:08:04):
we've seen in the past, what we've seen in the future.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
And also.
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
It makes them a little bit less trustworthy immediately.
Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Yep, because you're sitting there thinking, Oh, if you've read
the higher public books, you're like, wait, but it's a graph.
I know not to trust graphs, but like, why do
I like them so much?
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
I was?
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
I was so like because also, uh, I think their
actual name because in the entire book they refer to
themselves as Lio mm hmm, but I believe Master Soul
(01:08:57):
does say their name at the very end.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
It's like, yeah, I think it's like Lion nine, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
Yeah, lion nine. They rios ryos.
Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
How do you say gross? It's r h O s ros.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Okay, So Rose is the younger sibling of Sataria. Yes,
and Lyo and ros are like a thing?
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
Yes, now correct me if I'm wrong? Rose, Did I
read this incorrectly? Non binary?
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
I got confused because I Rose had he pronouns at
one point and then she pronounces at one point, but.
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
Jackie acknowledged it, like did you like?
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
There was there was a part where Jackie was like, actually,
both Jackie and Yrd kind of like grimaced, as in like, oh,
hold on, we thought, and they kind of brushed it aside.
And then when Satari was like explaining something, Jackie had
like an internal thought of like, well, how does she
know how to present their sister?
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
Because at that point they were saying her.
Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
So like I kind of feel like it might have
been something like a non binary situation.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Yeah, I could go either way. I'm definitely going to
have to reread, and I'm excited to get the audiobook
because I always get the pronouns a little bit better
when I have the audio book, because especially as a
scan reader, I like, I remember reading she and then
I remember reading he, and I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:10:46):
Like, wait, wait it is saggot.
Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
Yeah. Is that just my brain or is there a
connection here?
Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
Yeah, there was definitely a situation where they acknowledged the switch.
So I would also so like to listen to that
audiobook to get a better understanding of that. But ros
Leo and Jeckie are like the three best friends in
this book. Yeah, I love the way they interacted because
(01:11:16):
they met there, they all met each other with the
same energy, but also like when it was time to
like get down and serious, they were all ready to
be serious, which I also liked. I'm trying to think,
(01:11:36):
how did you feel about the Masters? Of course we
know Master's soul, but we also got introduced to your's
master else Elsie or.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
Hold On, hold On, hold On, hold on Elshie Elsie.
I was like, I know there's an h in there somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
Alishi s h Yeah, Alishi. I enjoyed both masters. Obviously
they're are secondary characters, but I like I Soul feels
like a continuation from the act, like he feels very standard.
Alushi super interesting. I love how she plays off of
(01:12:31):
Jord so much.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
I really love that as well.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
It is basically like I truly can see there being
a situation where Yoda was like Master Alishi, mm hmm,
you should really considered your as your padawan, and like
She's like, well, I wasn't even thinking about that. Doesn't
the force you leave and like him kind of just
nudging Yord towards her because of how different they are.
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
Because I because.
Speaker 3 (01:13:01):
Like there's a moment where like Yord is kind of
in his like powdy phase of the book, and like
he meets Master and at lastian Master Soul, and like
she gives him a face as if to say like, hey,
don't be mad, or hey don't show that you're mad,
(01:13:22):
because she has known him so well.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
I really dug that I.
Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
Would I would also like to see probably like some
early years of them too, like in a short story
or something. I would like to see that meeting of
them but also I wanted to go back because I
you probably do want to talk about graph a little
bit more.
Speaker 4 (01:13:48):
Lio.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
Lio was a very interesting character because they were a
graph they.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
Were born in Selene, and there is this like weird,
like almost racial.
Speaker 3 (01:14:14):
Yeah context between them as a graph a humanoid.
Speaker 4 (01:14:21):
And the Selinese people.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Yeah, and the Graphs are human, but Lio has taken
on some modifications to make themselves look more Selenese. Yes,
and so because they want that acceptance, and there is
some Selene that choose to accept them as Selene, but
(01:14:48):
then there's others very standard, especially in America, where they're
just like, no, you're a human, you don't belong here
kind of thing. And so loo hope is that, Hey,
the convocation is my chance to show that I love
my homeworld and like that I am truly a Selene.
(01:15:13):
And so we won't reveal like the villain of the
story because there is like a climax scene at the end.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
When we get off, when we get off of this stream,
I have a question for you for the last part,
because there is there is some burbage that is said
that I was like, hold on a second, I just
read the last chapter. That's not what happened, so I want,
(01:15:43):
I want to know your thoughts on that, but we
we will say that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
Off stream because we do want of course, we always
say this when we're reading these books.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
We will you know, talk spoilers, but we do want
to leave some of the juicier stuff in there for
you guys to read yourself and.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
Enjoy, especially because this book just came out so and
I know, like most of the time we review books
and it's done beforehand before it ever releases, but like
especially now because we've only gotten the chance to read
it once. It's it's a magical book that has a
lot of cool moments, and Tessa Gratten does an incredible
(01:16:25):
job making sure you laugh at the right moments, but
then they're like ooh at the right moments as well. Yeah,
Like I was so impressed with her first solo outing
in young adult territory for Star Wars.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Yeah, I like that about this book because there is
a moment for every character.
Speaker 4 (01:16:49):
That you kind of have that with. Of course, with
the you know kind.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Of explanation that I gave you guys of Jackie wanting
to be that like very fun, very excited to learn
type of character, there is a lot of times where
she is really giddy and actually giggling because she's excited
to be there. But then like, one one small little
detail that I'm okay with sharing is the fact that like.
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
be right back.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
They as a people are stuck in this forest jungle thing, right,
and so for who knows how long, and so the
only way they can survive is of course hunting and
or salvaging berries and fruits.
Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
And all of these other things. And they had a
conversation with both Jackie and Jord about the idea of.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
Vegetarianism killing for survival, and they were kind of teasing
Yord and Jackie, but Yord was kind of more vocal
about it. He's like, I just I'm not for this,
Like I don't think you should need to kill in
order to survive. But like every single time they kind
(01:18:13):
of like looked at Jackie to like offer something, she
kind of just like gave this like sickening face like no,
I'm good, Like no, I'm okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Because Jackie. I think Jackie is like that explore, oh
my gosh, exploratory vegetarian who's like I want to know
the process, but I don't want to know everything, like
I don't want the experience. Like, so I liked that
(01:18:46):
that they showcased two different sides of the coin, and
I'm trying to think if there's anything else. This is
a very easy breed, but it didn't feel tropy, it
didn't feel simplified. It Tessa Gratten really nailed all of
(01:19:08):
the elements I feel like of a true young adult
story you see so much nowadays where there's young adult fantasy,
but then there's like sex scenes in it and stuff,
and then it's like, yeah, like this feels very young adults.
Speaker 3 (01:19:24):
There's a lot of the genres recently that I have
been seeing online and kind of reading myself that are
getting too melded together. And I think it's more so
because there's so many authors that are wanting to graph
so many readers.
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
Whereas this I am okay with.
Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
Like, when Amberlyn is starting to really get into reading
chapter books, this is a book that I am willing.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
For her to read.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
Oh yeah, this book has uh Like one of one
of my favorite parts of this book is the big twist,
and Tessa Gretton writes it so well and so smoothly
and then doesn't address it for a little bit, which
(01:20:17):
I normally hate because I have I have said this
plenty of times on almost every single reviewing podcast I've
ever been a part of. I hate non linear stories.
It's like it's so much easier when you just say
A B C one plus two is three, you know,
and this, like I I really had a lot of
(01:20:39):
fun with it, because again, we are here to learn
about an entire planet and an entire people, and that's
what made it enjoyable, which I do kind of wish
that like more Star Wars did that, because again, like
(01:21:03):
I said in the beginning of this review, there's so
many moments where we're in pockets of a planet and
saying like, hey, we're only going to be here for
a little bit, so we don't need to learn too
much about it.
Speaker 4 (01:21:14):
But then there's like something like really cool that happens.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
You're like, I want to learn more about that, and
it's like, Nope, we're just going to move on, whereas
here we're we're here the entire time.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
Yeah, you have to accomplish the world building of Star
Wars while also accomplishing the world building of the planet.
That you're visiting because and this is like one of
the differences I found with Legends. For instance, Legends kind
of stuck to the same planets and so you never
really had to go back and introduce a new planet.
(01:21:46):
You just kind of had to introduce the villain of
the story and their home and everything, whereas here most
of Star Wars has chosen to go to different planets
in each book. And so some authors really nailed that
and really nailed that individual world building along with the
Star Wars world building, and some haven't. And I'm happy
(01:22:09):
to say test the grat and nailed both.
Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
So yeah, now after this, I will say I will
probably go ahead and go back to the galaxy map
the sea find Sealine, Yeah, just to see if they
had it in there, knowing that this book was going
to be publicized.
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
You know, I need the bookmark.
Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
Yes, Sam, I need to do the same thing the.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Star Wars galaxy done. Okay, let's see explore more. Let's look, No, Apple,
I really don't want to verify my Apple account right now.
I don't know why you're asking me.
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
I wonder if because I didn't do this before. Let's see,
Oh it doesn't. I was like can I control f.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
It and see you can control f the appendix?
Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
Oh I can. Okay, hold on, let me go to
the appendix.
Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
Then I told you that before. Okay, So we have
i'ma don't see it. We have Sylvestry, Silver Sere, Celuria.
(01:23:37):
Well maybe it's this guy Salun.
Speaker 4 (01:23:39):
As well part of the UH map.
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
Are you on UH page forty seven?
Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
Okay? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
But either way, Like I, I think that it's still
a very fun concept for them to be expanding this universe.
I think eventually, like I do, think editorial should tell
them to be like, hey, let's let's let's step back.
Speaker 4 (01:24:20):
On the you know, creating new worlds.
Speaker 3 (01:24:23):
Let's jump into some of the ones that we haven't
really explored a whole lot of. Because you can't tell
me that every single one of these planets have been explored.
Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
To its fullest, you know. Yeah, So I think that's
gonna be fun for the future of Star Wars nobilizations.
But is there anything else?
Speaker 6 (01:24:48):
I don't think so, and she muted, Okay, I don't
know why I'm choking on my water. U.
Speaker 4 (01:25:01):
But yeah, guys, that's gonna be it for our review.
Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
Like we always say, go out and enjoy this book
on your own. There is so much here that we
did not talk about, some of the juicier stuff that
is really really fun, and of course, like we said,
the big twist of this book was also really really fun.
So with that, guys, of course, you can always find
