Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ye who. Welcome to another episode in the Animation Nation

(01:01):
where you take a look at animation cross multid the Fantoms.
Today we're checking back in with Justice League Unlimited Season
two episodes one and two. Now, these episodes were watched
by me way back before Rick and Morty, when I
forgot that Rick and Morty was starting up that same week.
So it's been a little bit, but I still pretty
sure I recall these episodes pretty good, so I'm looking

(01:25):
forward to getting into that and going through the rest
of this season. There's some really good episodes going forward,
and these two episodes were pretty fun as well, from
what I remember before I get into the network plugs.
The fires are crazy here, listeners, It's absolutely wild. There's
like five to six forest fire slash wildfuiers going on

(01:46):
around me in the general twenty five to fifty kilometer range,
some closer to town to the right of me, ahead
of us, but like five probably like ten kilometers ahead
of us as a pair. And there's part of that
on Buyer. There's another part there's a highway close. We
can't really get out rein at the moment until tomorrow.

(02:07):
I don't have to go anywhere anyway, but it's very crazy.
Although the wind the way the wind is blowing, we
haven't had much smoke in the last couple of days.
Last Friday I missed DC Alliance. We were prepared to
evacuate and my parents were here visiting from another province.
So we'll be back next this week with more DC Alliance,

(02:29):
so to talk of the peacemaker as it starts next week.
But yeah, it's just been a little crazy. So apologies
if it gets switched again in DC Alliance. I'm not
there next this week if the winds changed and the
fire bloat towards us and we get evacuated. But right
now that's not looking like it's case. Just cross your
fingers for some rain. Doesn't look like there's any rain
in forecast, which is another weird thing. Selling people tell

(02:51):
me global warming doesn't this. This stuff didn't happen before,
and we had a lot more rain summers, weren't this
dry Like my front line. My line is like a
giant tumbleweed and you can only use water at certain times.
Right now, we're conserving it. So and also one frustrating
thing before I get into network plugs, the anti masks
people have lodged into this snap as we're not supposed

(03:14):
to have fires outdoors or go outside hiking around to
ATV's right now, and apparently that's trampling on people's liberties.
So that's always great when you're trying to pull together
to make sure wildfires don't spread or start new ones.
And my computer says there's two hot days ahead. Yay,
it's supposed to ring now Thursday or like to forty

(03:34):
percent chance, So let's get the network plugs. That a
way topic some fun things. We are part of the
Geek Alliance with six shows in total. On Mondays bi
weekly as Ranger Alliance on Tuesdays as they walk through
the Multiverse. On Wednesdays is The Animation Nation. On Thursdays,
it's Star Wars Alliance, on Fridays it is Marble Alliance,
and on Saturdays it's DC Alliance. Star Wars Alliance goes
live on a geek Versus YouTube channel Wednesdays at seven
pm Eastern time, Marble Alliance goes live Thursdays at nine

(03:55):
to ten pm Eastern Time, and DC Alliance goes live
Fridays at seven pm Eastern time. All three of those
shows also Drown podcast feeds search DC Alliance, Marble Alliance,
and Star Wars Alliance. We just want DC content, Marvel
content or Star Wars content only. We've a want all
six shows on the GA podcast Network States. It's brought
to the GUA on your podcast Apple Choice. We also
have a Patreon two tiers out here at A five
out here, but dowt here is basically tip Jarry like

(04:17):
we're doing. You want to help us out any way
you can, and a five out here where you get
your extras, you get your app pree episodes or early
excess episodes and Patreon exclusive episodes. Myself and Joe are
going through all the DC films through the years. Next
up for us as bread that'll be out this month
in the month of August for the patrons. We have
over thirty DC films through the years pieces of content

(04:37):
up there for the patrons. Now as we keep going through,
we're soon to the DCEU, so that'll be pretty interesting
revisit until we wrap it up, people go through a
show or something smart thing is something that we've talked about.
We also had the Marble Alliance guys Chris and David
doing their backs to broadcasts talking about the four Fantastic

(05:00):
for our films. That's about Pelow say. They also have
two shows on the backlock for the patrons, and Finny Saga,
Rewatch and Talus from the House of X document their
favorite Fox Marvel films. We also have Joe's Multiverse Minutes
where he's doing his Disney deep dives. On the first
and the fifteenth of every month, Joe is going to
review a Disney film, not just review it, give you
fun behind scenes facts, tidbets, all that sort of thing.

(05:23):
And we're getting close October now, Joe, you know that
means TikTok. We're almost at your Halloween massacres what I'm
going to call it, because it's just crazy what you
do to yourself thirty days of Halloween. So patrons began
to look out for that. In a couple of months.
We think everyone that's a patron. If you're not a patron,
if you take a quick thirty sixty seconds great review
to podcast on your podcast Apple Choice, so always greatly
appreciate it. Helped their people on the shows, and that's

(05:44):
always a good thing. Okay, So just a quick note too,
I am aware of the DC Animated News and the
new animated show for what Kanda, I can't forever. I
think it might be called it could be called something

(06:05):
else Tales from I know about that one as well.
That will get a retrospective down the line. And as
far as my adventures with Green Lantern News that came out,
that'll be covered on DC Alliance this week, so it
be sure to check that out. We are jumping back
into season two of Justice League Unlimited, which, again, this

(06:32):
show is so good, especially compared to some of the
stuff that we get in a oh man, it's it's
just a really great show and I'm thoroughly impressed at
all times, even when you go with an episode like
this that's completely off the beaten path, or well one
of the two episodes off the beaten path. So yeah,

(06:55):
this again, everyone your main got people are back for
the second season. There were two DVDs for this season
as well, and yeah, there was some back like behind
scenes stuff on those DVDs as well, and obviously it

(07:15):
was attached to all the other like the complete series
and stuff like that, and there's comics all that sort
of thing. But yeah, season two just come off the
back of season one there and uh, this was this
was done, was this was Ship's Kiss, And especially I'm

(07:37):
pretty sure how we wrapped this season is really good.
It's almost like you don't know if they're even coming back.
So yeah, I think season three was a just an
extra cherry on top it. You could have finished off
the entire series after season two, and I look forward
to getting into a lot of these juicy episodes. So

(07:58):
we are first two episodes of the season, and obviously
we still do this by production order. Are The Cat
and the Canary and the Ties that bind Us. The
Cat and the Canary is such a fun episode. I'll
get into this one right away. So Black Canary essentially

(08:21):
is going on a mission from whatever call and Wildcat
is not there and she doesn't know why she's able
to get a job done, but you know she could
have used his help for sure, and why he wasn't
helping it is because he was at the Midabra, the
giant miny human flights. This was in several different mediums.
I saw this in Small Bill. I feel like I

(08:45):
thought this multiple times in Small Bill twice at least.
And this is such a great episode for what they
do here, and we'll obviously go more into it ah,
so yeah, she takes a criminals with showing her fighting
and fantastic fighting ability, and she looks down and sees

(09:07):
the like the crooks are when she before she jumps
in on and the croups are watching the fights, and
she sees that Wildcat is the winner, and she completely
is like what And she does not go to the
league with this. She wants to keep this stuff under
wrap because she knows that Wildcat would get in trouble
and he has after he's been he's the one to
train her. So she goes in and uses her flirty

(09:27):
flirt on Green Arrow at the first and asks him
to in the watch hour and asks him to spire
with her. So she basically makes to him think that
she's not a good fighter, and then she flips him over,
jumps on top of him, and he agrees to help her.
He thinks he's being played first, but he ultimately agrees uh.

(09:50):
And then they're driving down under motorcycle and she basically
fills it in on everything that's good that's going on
that Waldcat's in Bilham Brows and basically first was like,
why don't you go in the league about this? And
that's when she's she uh. He also thinks that they
have a relationship. She's like noways, basically a father to

(10:10):
me and uh actually teached HER's a bit of time
before that where she where he actually thinks that they're together,
and he gets right bummed out, but ultimately she tells
him like, no, he's like a father to me. He
trained me, he got me into the league, he took
care of me. So yeah, it's again it's a pretty
good dynamic that they have there. There's not a whole

(10:31):
lot of trust between the two of them initially obviously,
right and yo, so she you, she gets Green Arrow
to purchase the ticket to the Milli Human Bra and
that's when Green Arrow thinks that she just wants to albur
Queen's money to get in and bumbs the moud even more. Obviously.

(10:53):
She says no, uh, and they go to Tactor Wildcat,
who doesn't doesn't want to hear anything. He said it like,
I mean I've been put on the backshelf in the league,
Like I don't get to do anything anymore. Uh, I'm
only one of the leaguers that don't have superpowers. And
he doesn't get out of the Watchtommer, so he's like
I wanted to want to basically show that I still

(11:15):
got it, and this pisses off Canary to know me.
And and before we go any further, we'll take our
only at break of the evening, listeners weren't a support network,
gonna pick the adswer violum and three quick three kin't
to adjust your volume and we'll be right back in
three two what and we're back okay? So uh, Wildcat

(11:42):
not not leaving this at all, and Canary is like, like,
essentially he's gonna be and she's pissed off as he's
going to be more upset when he realizes what he's
doing when all those beatings, and she's gonna go and
fight him. That's her idea, and Green Arrow is like heat.

(12:06):
She tells him first that like he was a father
to her and all that stuff mentor gallery and and
then Green Arrow grease to help her, so they go in.
You see Wildcat fighting with Atomic Skull. I think it's
the person that he fights, and Green Arrow and Black
Canary try to stop the fight, and then then you

(12:27):
get super villains stepping off against the heroes and wild
Cat just moves to the side and lets the villains
come down on Black Canary and Green Arrow, which is
pretty wild and then Black Canary basically proposes another meta
fight her versus Wildcat, and if she wins, Wildcat has
to leave, but if Wildcat wins, she stays and you

(12:52):
have her, and re Rerouallett, the person who's run in
the whole show, is like, yes, that's perfect. She gets
the villains the back down, she promotes the fight and
we get it. And then a Wildcat's pissed off. He's like,
I'm not going to fight Black Canary like she was no, no,
not doing it, not doing it, and she was one
of my students, and Realip basically says like, you don't

(13:15):
do this. I'm shutting the standing. You're never gonna have
anything anymore. You're just gonna sit in the back and
do nothing, and he agrees. He's like, okay, yeah, I'm
gonna fight and Black Canary. He thinks Black Canare can
take care of herself because he fire he trained her
who and then in Black Canary's dressing room, Green Arrow

(13:35):
pulls a fast one on her. He at first he
asked her he's going to use her powers and she's
like nope, So then he uses an Arrow knocks her
out and takes her place, So I do like sleeping
gas Arrow, that's pretty funny. He just holds it and
then Black Canar's knocked out really lets Green Arrow take

(13:57):
her place, and Wildcat's not going to fight him first.
He's like, green Air isn't fight early, Black Canary is,
you should be able to handle it, and Green Air
is just timing Wildcat and then Wildcat puts the beat
beating on him and after like it looks like he's
like to stay down and don't fight anymore. He gets
up and basically says, yeah, like my grandmother hits harder

(14:18):
on you, and he turns around and gives him appercot
and looks like he kills him, and Walcat is just broken.
He doesn't know like what what's going on, and he
checks his pulse. He's not doesn't have any pulse. He
is completely blown away. And then really it's like, oh
my god, like think of how much this will bring

(14:39):
that that we've like he had a piece of person,
like a hero die like this, and Waldcat is like, nope,
I'm never doing this again. I'm out, and then Black
Canary clears down the whole Uh wait does she no. First,
Green Arrow comes back and then she clears down the
whole area. I'm pretty sure, h And yeah, all the

(15:00):
area cleans out, and the green Black Canary just over
Green Arrow like crying like I can't believe you're stupid,
and like how sweet it was. And then he wakes
up and he used an arrow to stun himself and
or a stunning gun to stun himself and basically try
to gyre Waldcat and realize if he kills some maybe
he would not go back. And Wildcat is like, yeah,

(15:23):
that's that worked. I'm not gonna lie like that was
pretty smart and really like you're gonna go back to
be nothing, And that's when Black Canary blows down the
hole meta Bromo arena, and when he go back to
the watchtower, he's basically Wildcat's telling him that I'm gonna
be telling Black Canary and is gonna be good, Like
it's gonna be okay, and she's like, yeah, it is,
and then she walks me in to speak with John
have some canceling essentially, and then to end it, we

(15:48):
get Green Arrow and putting Black Canary out for some
coffee I think copy or a date or restaurant something
like that, and obviously he says that you're buying, though
she's a little like what the hell like you're a billionaire.
So this was a really fun episode. I love this.
I love the Green Arrow Black married relationship in the
DCAU and this is something that I'm hoping we get

(16:08):
to see in the big screen. That was one of
my for like initial grapes with Arrow was this, and
then Getting Sarah was awesome and somewhat like this, but
still I was always disappointed with what they turned the
world character into a love triangle character instead of what
the comics were like where she's an ultimate badass. But

(16:30):
they did create a new well, Sarah Lance's not a
new character, but they did create like essentially like more
like she gets she's more in death than I'm in
DC lore so with her own show and stuff like that.
So yeah, great episode. I'll give this episode a solid
eight out of ten. For me, Not a lot happens
in the grand scheme of things, but still actually I'll
get that at eight point five out of ten, I

(16:51):
give it a little bit more. And yeah, we'll jump
into the second of the two episodes we have here,
the tie step Vine and this is a mister Miracle episode.
And I'm pretty sure, if my memory does serve me

(17:13):
right here, Granny Goodness needs mister Miracle to rescue Calabac essentially.
And I think there's a war on apocalypse because of
the events of Justice League, where Darkseide doesn't exist anymore.
He's thought to be dead. So we opened this with Scott,

(17:36):
who's mister Miracle, who's basically training and performing his act
with his assistant too, And I don't wouldn't Bill tell
you his name? And he is a bigger portion of
this episode, I'm gonna say, little assistant. And yeah, he's
doing a weird trick. First, like I think his body

(17:59):
is fully in case instant maybe something like that, and
then he gets dropped through black of oie and then
dropped them through train car. I think it's very elaborate
something like that. And he escapes and when the dust
like stops poofing, when it like settles stops poofing, Oh
my god. When the dust settles, his assistance nowhere to

(18:22):
be found, and we see Granny Goodness there and she's
holding him hostage. Scott's a sister, and Scott and Barda
are not too happy about this. Granny Goodness explains that
dark Side being gone from the events of Justice League
where it blew up and he was like a Superman

(18:45):
was going to try and fight him to the death,
and and I took Superman away. That is the events
that I'm pretty sure led to Dark Side. I have
to look this up. I do lefter we're done talking
about this episode before I ended, but when we're finished
reviewing it, I'm going to look it up to see
if that was the case. I'm pretty sure that was

(19:08):
the case. So I don't know all the players. But
there's a civil war on Apocalypse because Darkseide is not
there anymore, and it's Granny Goodness versus this other guy
who is essentially looks like a Nazi Nazi caricature. And yeah,
that guy has the upper hand because he has captured

(19:29):
Calibank and he's going to basically wipe his mind and
use him to be the legitimate air and run Apocalypse.
So Granny needs Calbac for the same reason. So she
basically need Scott and to rescue Calbook from Apocalypse's most
impenable prison that he was trapped in for so long.

(19:52):
And Scott's the only person that ever escaped from it
as a boy, and you get Scott Embarda going to
degree because uh, the little guy is in danger. So
they go to Justice League for help, and this is
what involves the Justice League. They go to Superman specifically
because of apocalypse and all that, but he's not around

(20:14):
and John Jones Marshall Manhunter doesn't have anything to do
with him. So Flash agrees, uh to help help them,
and he's pretty pissed at John doesn't want to help
them at all, and he just says the Flash, you
gotta look at the big picture, and Flash just like, no,
we're supposed to help anybody who comes to help. That
was the whole way why we Fendous League, you know,
like triage the situation here and be like, okay, no,

(20:37):
we can't devote any resources. No you do. And Flash
goes and joins up with Scott and Barda and says
he's gonna help him, and Barda is very skeptical at first,
saying like they're pretty useless a superman in his powers
and Flash is like, it shows me if there really
is I'm fast or faster than Superman, so uh, and
Scott is like, yeah, I can use you for sure.

(20:59):
So they boomed tube to apocalypse pretty easily, not writing
in where they would prefer to go a little bit
outside of the norms there, and Scott realizes, like, this
place has changed quite a bit from when I was here.
So his the plans that he got, they're not really good,
So we got to make this up on the fly,

(21:19):
and Flash and Bard are like, yeah, we're coming with
He doesn't want them to, but he's like, they're like, yeah,
especially considering the plans don't work anymore, we need to
help you. So they go through, and as they're going
through is basically Scott remembering getting PTSD, remembering the experiences
he was having as a child where he made multiple
escape tanpsper for they like everyone got more torture, more punishment,

(21:41):
and then Granny's like, I'm going to break you. And
Scott eventually got out and like I said, multiple times,
Granny tried to break his spirits but no way. And
then we get the guards come out and Flash takes
care of them well, dodges them and goes to search
all the areas and finds Caliback pretty quickly and releases him.

(22:03):
But that was obviously the easier part. The higher part
is escaping. So there's a whole load of death traps
and like enemies and stuff like that that I'm honestly
I can't remember. Like there's a room with weapons I'm
pretty sure, bombs in a room and robots in another room,

(22:24):
I think. And then the Nazi caricature guy basically starts
to self the shot sequence and he's like, yeah, I'm
going to take everybody out with me and no one's
going to survive and flows up and boom tube opens
up and Scott walks out with Barda and Flash and

(22:47):
Calibt and Granny's like, ooh, thank you, sweetie. Grannything so stupid,
and she basically just looks at him and is like, no,
I'm still keeping your little guy. That that's not not great.
And when kelbec morphs into John Jones, Granny is pretty shocked,

(23:12):
and he uses his mind reading abilities to bring Flash
to the little guy's sell just before he's chopped in
half I think, and Flash gets him out, brings them back,
and this shows that John like came around the Flash. Afterwards,

(23:35):
he Bardo wants to kill Granny goodness, of course, but
John's like, no, we should keep both of them fighting,
so Apocalypse is in like a state of chaos and
they're not focused on Earth and they agree obviously, and
then the Flash goes back with the little guy and
gives Scott. Scott opens up another boom tube and they

(23:58):
all walk away, and Granny's pissed off at the end,
and I love howbard I just drops her and they
walk in through the boom tube and there's a really
nice moment back at the watch Tower where Flash is
basically trying to do damage control right away for not
listening to John going off course, but John kind of

(24:20):
cuts him off and basically saying that you were right,
you know, like we are supposed to a we are
supposed to do the right thing. And then he's like,
I'm gonna be asking you all. I want to know
where you did you want to have a game of
rock and socc on robots. It's not called rock and
SoC on robots, and I honestly can't remember what it's

(24:41):
called for the life of me right now, but it
is rock and socc and Robots and Flash completely smiles,
which is hilarious to me, and uh yeah, this reminds
me again where John is becoming a hermit in the
watch Tower and he needs some of the Core members
to get him out of that. So I really enjoyed

(25:04):
this episode. I'm pretty sure this episode was written by
jam David Hayas if I'm not mistaken because mister Miracle
within it. If I'm not, I could be wrong on that,
but I'm I want to say, yes, they were really
good at getting that getting that in, and I'm not

(25:28):
sure or maybe no. I feel like mister Miracle and
all those guys were Jack Kirby yet, so yeah, but again, James,
you couldn't get Jack Kirby right at the time. James
Damond Hays was a good choice and this was a

(25:49):
great one off episode that shows us a little bit
of backstory about Apocalypse, which is always nice to see.
So this would get a solid eight out of ten
for me if I were to rank class out of ten.
Both really enjoyable episodes, but a little bit more for
the Cat and the Canary than this episode. But I
always loved the inner workings of Apocalypse and mister Miracle

(26:11):
was a character that was new to me. I learned
of him from this show, so I always enjoy that. Okay, listeners,
we'll be back next week with let's see the episodes
that we're going to be talking about. I know one
of them is the Doomsday Sanction which who So we
got to Doomsday Sanctioned and Task Force Actions really fun episodes.

(26:34):
So until then, we'll be back next week with more
