Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
What do you got popping off on the side quest
side of things right now?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Last week, I can't remember what was the last week?
Was it Donkan Kong last week? Or was that two
weeks ago? I think that you tell me, I don't know. Yeah,
I think it was don Kong Bananza last week. Uh.
And this week I think I'm joined by Travis again.
We're gonna be talking about some Marvel things. We'll probably
talk more about Donkey Kong because I'm hoping Travis has
world credits on that bad boy. Now we can talk
(01:40):
about have you a little bit more? I did? I
did first episode, but I didn't want to spoil anything
for my co host there. But yeah, I'm deep, deep
in the Bonanza world. So yeah, it should be should
be a good time.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yeah, nice, very nice? Uh Yeah, what else do we
got popping off? We this It's been a busy month.
We have Jurassic World reburn review, we got Superman review,
We just did Fantastic four review first step, so lots
of stuff that's popping off. We're still doing the Dexter
Resurrection reviews. Those has been going pretty good. Those are weekly.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
The retros are our ten year retros. We all picked
one of our I was gonna say favorite movies, but
I guess that's not necessarily true. But we all picked
a movie we all want to talk about. So those
are I think all out on the feeds now, if
not almost all of them.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
They're almost all of them because I think Kirklands I
was looking at the calendar. Kirklands is coming out soon,
if not already. Ah yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And on top of that, that's a good show. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
We got August ninth. This is our legendary Geek first
ten year celebration. It was a big event, big event,
tons of stuff. Bob Off Travis has been working so
hard to do tons of things for that show. We're
on be gathering up together and doing ten hours for
you guys, and we'll be increased in the time or more, yeah,
depending if we get new new subs and subscriptions and
(02:55):
all that kind of fun stuff. So it could be
a good time. Check that out. It's gonna be fantastic stick.
On top of that, we just did a huge crossover
with the Geek Ultimate Alliance network, so that was that
was tons of fun just to catch up.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
We haven't done that's it's been a while since.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
We've teamed up with them to kind of just talk
all the latest and greatest content and do so it's
a fun time. It's a good, good two hours. Other
than that, I think, yeah, reviews Alien Earth is coming up,
lots of stuff, lots of stuff. Just subscribe to us,
check out the social media feeds everything.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
You'll get all the.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Latest and greatest content and updates there before we get
into this, which you know, our first topic will be
fantastic for related Dylan detail in the chat, He's he's
asking you this, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Did I watch F four? So I have not seen
F four yet, So apologies because maybe this conversation could
go a bit deeper, but I don't want to get spoiled,
So you know we're going on spoiler. But you know,
essentially what happened is because I don't think I've said
this on a cast. I of course it was going
to be on The Fantastic four. We've been out of
work thing them up, and it was a tricky thing.
(04:01):
I couldn't I could have probably got out of it,
but it would have been kind of rude to certain
people in attendance. I was like, you know, I'm gonna
go to this thing, and you know, I'm like, there's
a chance, there's a chance this work event's gonna end
early enough that I can skate my way over to
the theater. You know, I was at work all day,
so speed run to this event, speed run to the theater,
speed run home, and then like make it for the review.
(04:21):
Would have been a crazy day. But I didn't end
up quite working out. I have a ticket. I bought
a ticket. I didn't get a refund because I was
hoping I was gonna make it there. So I I
am sorry, you have a revelation.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
No, no, I'm just I'm shocked you bought a ticket
but didn't get a refund.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well, because I thought, up until the showtime was starting
that maybe there's a chance I was gonna get there,
Up until like twenty minutes before, I'm like, maybe I
can get to this thing in time, and like if
I have to miss the trailers and the Avatar fire
and ash trailer I'm okay with that as long as
I get to the movie in time. Even if I
miss twenty minutes of the movie, I'm like, you know what,
that's fine. I can say that I didn't. You know,
(04:59):
we'll never have a minit ted to the fans. You
guys can pretend I saw you can film me on
what happened. But it didn't work out. So I didn't
see the movie and I bought a ticket, so you know,
that's fine. I'm keeping the MCU alive with my ticket purchase.
I do want to still see it, of course. I
would like to see it before like as soon as possible,
pretty much. I'm thinking of Cheap Tuesday, but for eagle
eared listeners, it is currently Cheap Tuesday in this second
(05:21):
So obviously I can't go to the theater right now,
but maybe next week. I don't know if I have
a podcast to do next Tuesday, but if not, maybe
i'll go see it next Tuesday. I'll share my thoughts
at that time because I love me some MCU. So
I do want to see this movie for sure. There
you go, There you go, detour.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Uh cool. So our first topic of the night that
would be breaking down is that Robert Downey Junior. So
we all know that they're they're you know, Doom and whatnot.
He came out for Comic Con last year, or maybe
it was Comic Coon. He came out talking Doom Big reveal.
So there are some beatier rumors going around right now
(05:59):
that he is in talk to stay on as Doom
after they do this big reset that is supposedly come
in our way eventually. Here, what do you know about
the resets?
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Have you?
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Have you explored that a little bit?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Uh, not a whole lot. I feel like I don't.
I don't know the whole situation there. Can you explain
to me in Layman's terms to.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
The best of my ability? Uh, Yes, they're looking at
basically resetting the multiverse, the the MCU, So I take
it as new Iron Man all that kind of stuff,
and I think this is just their way of kind
of doing like a clean slate.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Not necessarily you will go forward still, So it's just
some people get I don't.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Know about like characters that are already established moving forward
into into this universe because I don't see it as necessarily.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
I don't think they even know, right, So I don't
think I don't think they know only knows, and even
does he know, I don't even know he knows.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
A lot of miscommunication. But I don't think it's I
don't think it's intended to be a reboot. I think
it's just supposed to be a you know, eventually, how
how far can you run this this ship?
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Right?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
All these projects, we saw them try to bite off
more than they could chew with all the shows and
the spinoffs, and that's not necessarily working very well for them.
That's why I like Fantastic for so much, because it
captures that old Marvel magic that those earlier MCU projects had.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
But another thing is that this Doctor Doom is rumored
to be from this Fantastic four universe.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Right, which is not like mentioned in the movie, right,
you can spoil all that. I guess, No, that's not
a thing in there. Yeah, I guess it's hard for
me to pick your brain about that too much without
going into like too much spoiler territory. Is obviously that
character of Doctor Doom is very closely tied to those characters,
obviously in the backstory of it, So I don't even know,
(07:50):
hard for me to dig too deep on that since
I haven't seen that new film at this point in time,
but yeah, I mean, like obviously there's been a lot
of talk lately, I feel like about the nature of
Marvel and how make these movies, and with Rebecca Romain
coming out here and being like, oh, yeah, the script's
not done yet, even though they're like filming and making
this movie right now, and there's a lot of layers
to that of like, Okay, well, yeah, maybe this script
like is done quote unquote, but like she only sees
(08:12):
like part of it, or maybe it is still being
written on the days they're going to shooting. So it's
like if they're doing that, like I don't know, I
don't even know if they know if at this point
in time if Doctor Doom is gonna survive or die.
But once again, if it's a multiverse thing, even if
he does die, there could still be another one look
at you know, Kang, and we've seen that before, so
I don't know that. It's a really tricky situation. And
I'm curious, how do you feel now, because it's like
(08:33):
I've been a whole year pretty much since we got
that Doctor Doom casting, Like, how do you feel about
that now? Because I feel like I initially when we
got the initial news, I was not a fan of it.
I just feels like a big goofy, like, Okay, we're
gonna reuse this guy who's our main character. Now he's
a villain. And then I think just over the months,
it's like I'm just so used to it now They'm like,
I guess I'm fine with it. That's just what it is.
From almost from just a point of survival, like, Okay, well,
(08:55):
this is the movie I'm gonna get. I might as
well like buckle in and get ready for it. And
then I feel like now that we're talking about this,
and like maybe the pinchil of this character is gonna
persist for years and years and not just be like
a two movie villain two move and maybe more, maybe
if he pops up in Spider Man. We've theorized that
might be a thing too, Like I don't know, I
don't know if I want that, Like what are we
gonna do after after Doomsday and Secret Wars? Like are
(09:16):
we not gonna have defeated him yet? Is he still
gonna be around as a villain? Is he coming to
the hero side? Does he convert into Iron Man? Like
is that like the story like he turns into full
circle or something crazy. Yeah, Like I don't know, so
it seemed it seems a little goofy, like no matter
which way you slice it. And I think, even though
I'm more okay with the casting of it now, I
(09:36):
still kind of think it would be good if he
was just like a two villain to two movie villain arc,
you know, once again with it, maybe a little bridge
project in between the two Avengers and then we just
say Cinara and then we go like cyon R and
we go on to the next character villain X men,
you know, phase whatever is going on there. But I
guess that's more maybe what I would want instead of
him lingering around, you know, loitering in the parking lot
(09:58):
of the MCU.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yeah, just trying to make more royalties for himself or
something like that. But I agree it needs to be
done tastefully and properly because I'm I don't know how
long you really keep him keep him around for I mean,
with with Theanos in his defense, I mean they brought
him in, I mean the first Avengers, he was kind
of in the background. I don't I can't remember if
(10:20):
he appeared in any other projects prior to Avengers, or
if Avengers was the first time we.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Saw Guardians post credit or something, right, yeah, but.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Guardians was after the first Avengers, right, yes, yeah, so yeah,
I mean it's tricky because when you see.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
When you see he really wasn't much until it wasn't much, know,
he existed kind of sprinkled, right, That's exactly it.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
And so maybe that's something that they'll eventually want to
do with with Doom as a character. Maybe they'll start
doing like sprinkle him around. I don't know, but that
would definitely give it the Thanos kind of treatment, I guess.
And you can't just keep him around after the fact
you get to that Avengers movie, then he's got to
go capeche But what other projects we got Spider Man
(11:05):
and how many other projects before we get to Doomsday?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Before Doomsday? I don't, man, I don't think there's well,
Spider Man's after Doomsday? Right?
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Is it after Doomsday?
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Oh my gosh, Yeah, I'm getting the timeline all all
mrked up here.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Or even anything. Yeah, let me trick the calendar right now.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Yeah, that's a tricky one aside from the shows, because
there's a couple more shows.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, wonder Man coming up pretty soon here Isabel Colin
is coming out, Zombies is maybe this year you got
a Spider Verse thing, maybe we get another X Men
season or Wars. That's not happening. No, I don't. I
don't think there's any other movie. Actually, yeah, I think
we're just shows and maybe they sneak a special in
(11:53):
there or something. But I think I think Doomsday is
actually the next movie.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Okay, then it'll be very very.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
H I feel like that movie's gonna have a lot
of weight on it shoulders then to be introducing this,
this dynamic of this character, character of main character we
have not seen before and then what yeah, end his
story and Secret Wars. That doesn't seem right, so I get,
but it goes handed down with the rumor like he's
in talks to stay on as Doctor Doom afterwards. So
I mean, he's his story's not gonna end in Secret Wars.
(12:22):
He's gonna keep on sticking around.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
And well, let me let me ask you this, like,
and once again spoiler light on the F four side,
but do you after seeing that movie and knowing that
they're like appearing in these Avengers things, like, do you
expect there to be a Fantastic four to two. Is
that like something that's gonna be announced soon? Like obviously
they don't usually do that until the prior movie has released,
But do you expect like that sequel in the next
(12:44):
three years? Like, do you think that's gonna just be
one of those ones that gets a trilogy or a duology?
Like what do what do you think is happening there?
Speaker 1 (12:52):
I think it's yes, I think it's gonna I think
it's gonna get a sequel, I really do.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, and and you know, even though
it's Fantastic four, you can still like switch up the
deem I know, like their kids in there. I don't
know what happens with them to the end or anything,
but like even if someone of them, one of them
dies or multim of them die, even in Avengers or otherwise,
you can still like have a Fantastic Four movie with
a mix up of the team and that would actually
be kind of fresh and different from the other live
actual ones we've seen too. So yeah, that's uh, that's
(13:21):
also potential. Like Okay, maybe they could dig more into
a doom Fantastic four storyline because I feel like, no
matter what we get in Doomsday or Secret Wars, like
that's gonna be spread pretty thin among a million other
characters that are gonna be appearing and popping off, right
mm hmm yeah, Like I don't know, we're gonna dig
into like the Victor von Doom and like their backstory
of the f four, you know, well.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Yeah, and that's this is not a spoiler, but at
least it's the Fantastic Four. They didn't necessarily waste a
lot of time on their backstories, like it's it's not
the origins like the previous Fantastic Four movies were.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And I mean they were.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Advertising that for for a while, so I.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Think they did a good job at it. And it
kind of like the the.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Bullet Points, the cliff Notes version of just like, okay,
here's what happened, moving forward, here we go present day,
and I think you don't want to see that really
with a villain, but uh well no, because that Als
had that that Als was just there. He was just
evil and doing things. And then you got that little
bit of his past when he was talking to doctor
Strange in uh at Finny War and he's like, this
(14:23):
is my world is beautiful. It it died off, right,
you know, so maybe you get something like that with
Doctor Doom because.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Well yeah, and even then you're like you can fill
in some more of his character, like through Gamora Nebula
as well. I can't remember how much they like did
of that in the Guardians movies or it's just that
being in the big screened thing, but you can, Yeah,
you can do it that way. Not that I think
that they're gonna I don't know if they're gonna make it.
The Victor von dum was like a college friend of
them back in the day. Maybe they could go that road.
I guess they could and pull like the uh you know,
(14:52):
uh Spider Man Mysterio thing, whether he's like in the background,
you know, it's like the same thing stage and Mysterio
back the back corner. Like maybe we got that same
shot of Doom and the Fantastic War or something just
a callback. Yeah, yeah, that It'll be interesting to see
what they do. What would you prefer Doom two Vengers
(15:16):
movies done, Doom continuing on afterwards. I mean.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I want him to continue. I want him to continue afterwards.
I feel like that's very important because he's just a
great villain. Like, what if is this exclusively like the
Robert Don's universion. Let's say, okay, if they do him, okay,
so we could get a different actor playing Doom afterwards.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
No, No, I mean I'm for my question. I'm asking
just Doom, just Doom as downy down as No.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
I want I want him to stick around afterwards, like
two movies and done. That just doesn't feel feeling right
to me. I would like Doom to stick around a
little bit longer. He was always a highlight for me
in that Fantastic Four and then Fantastic four Rides at
the Silver Surfer. I loved him in that movie when
he gets on the board and he's just so freaking
like beast mode and just like power crazy, and he's
(16:11):
just such a cool villain. When I was a kid,
him and Green Goblin with the two villains that I
always play as, pretend to be on the on the playground,
just causing destruction, throwing pumpkin bombs, and.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
You were throwing pumpkin just chucking gords at people, just
like a skateboard or something like what we're using as
your glider and.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Your oh nothing, No, So I was just I was
just like floating around the playground, just protecting that house
on on something.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yeah. Were you specifically like Defoe's Green Goblin?
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Oh, yes, because that was that's what came out at
the time. When I was a kid, it was just
Spider Man uh and Spider Man two, So it was
that was all the rage.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Nice, I can picture that. That's a very vivid imagery
in my head. You playing as those characters in the playground.
I can oh.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Yeah, that and piots of the Caribbean. That was a
good time. Yeah, yes, Well, do you have anything else
you want to add to this topic?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Okay, Well we're going to skidaddle onto still in the
Marvel train. We're gonna be talking some Doctor Strange three here.
So have you have you read this this comic before?
Do you know anything about this?
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Absolutely not. Well I've not read it, but I have
read the Wikipedia synopsis of what it is that's about
red as I've done of it.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Well, that's perfect, that's perfect. Damnation is the story that
they are rumored to be adapting, and in the story,
Doctor Strange is battling Mephisto, and Mephisto is basically trying
to take over Las Vegas and turn into like a
whole new hell on Earth.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Yeah, what do you think of this? Yeah? Well, first
of all, have we ever seen Las Vegas in the MCU? Okay,
I can't think of a project in which we've been
to Vegas.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
I want to say it's maybe in uh, maybe in
one of Tony Stark's adventures. Maybe he's doing like an
expo is there or something like that.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Maybe, yeah, maybe something like that, or maybe like in
what If Season three, like Howard the Duck is like
they're hanging out or something with Darcy or something, you know. Possibly,
But yeah, I feel like it's kind of untapped, Like
we've we've hit a lot of the big American cities,
but I can't recall like a big Las Vegas themed
thing in the past, so that that could be fun
(18:29):
as a setting. I mean, this is very exciting for
me because I love Doctor Strange one and two. I
think both those movies are great some of my favorite
MCU stuff. I love the character of Doctor Strange, and
I love a lot of the stuff they've got introduced
to in specifically Multiverse of Madness. Some of the new
characters that we have set up here as far as
the Damnation. When I was reading through it, like none
of it, Like in terms of the key players, the
(18:51):
main characters that are in this like comic book run
this series aren't really big deals in the MCU, Like,
they're not really built around those. So I think they
would really just take that bare bones idea of maybe
Las Vegas setting Mephisto as the villain of course, and
then like kind of build it up around there and
instead use like the characters that we actually do have
right now, and maybe you throw one or two new
(19:13):
ones in the mix. But in like, I don't know.
I was reading that, like there's all these ghostwriter versions
of all these big characters, which I thought you would like,
But I looked up the images and like, it wasn't
that exciting. Unfortunately, it wasn't like as creative as what
was it? Like what it was it? What if? When
we got all those weird hybrid versions of the characters. Yeah,
Like it wasn't quite as fun as like seeing those images.
(19:33):
But obviously the ghostwriter, you know, being a big part
of that, and a bunch of other characters. I didn't
see anything about Clea, who obviously was Charlie's thrown like
Tea's at the end of Multiverse of Madness, So I
imagine you don't throw away big actors like that, like
obviously bring that character in so it doesn't seem like
she is really relevant to that storyline in the comic run.
But obviously I think in this version, this adaptation, we
(19:53):
would get that America Shavs as well. I didn't really
see that, but I would hope that she would be
brought into the third one used in some way, while
is a big part of that original one, and he's
in there too. Of course, there's an interesting thing. Apparently
Loki was like the source of Supreme at one point,
and like this is part of the story of this
is that strangers like taking that mantle back from from Loki.
But I don't I don't think that we'd go down
down that route in terms of where Loki is currently
(20:14):
at in the MCUH. But yeah, I think there's a
lot of fun to be had here. And obviously Myphisto
was set up in Ironheart. I've not seen that yet either.
I'm a little behind on my MCU projects at the moment,
but I gather he's more of like a tease. I
don't know. I forget if you've seen that.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Right, I've only watched the first episode, but I skipped
and watched the scene, so.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
It's one scene. One see Fisto.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
I believe it's just one scene.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Yeah, who's cast as the character? Or is it just
like a CGI faceless situation you want me to tell you? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Uh, Sasha Baron Cohen.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Oh right, Okay, I didn't know about that. Is he
is he being silly in it? Or is he being? No,
he's being He's being.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
He's he's very serious, but he's very charismatic, and I
think that's that's what you want for that character, right, I.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Mean, there's a ton of comedians who obviously have that
that range to them. I've only seen him do the
borat zany stuff. But I think it's a cool casting.
I think it's interesting to have him as the villain
of the Third Doctor's Range movie. Seems crazy but also
kind of exciting. I kind of like, kind of love that,
so uh yeah, I think I'd be very down for that.
(21:23):
I like the setting. I like this potential idea that
like maybe Mefisto would kind of be our step being
stone into this kind of supernatural realm more so and
get like, obviously we've got some of that stuff, like
more so with the first Doctor Strange, obviously with Dormamu, Right,
but I was like kind of scratching the surface to
some extent, we've always have been, So I think there's
(21:43):
a lot of potential to be had here. I really
like this idea. And if anything, I just you know,
oftentimes with these rumors, we're always trying to gauge is
there fire behind the smoke or is it just smoke?
And but but the moral story is like when we're
getting rumors like this, it's usually like, Okay, these projects
are in the works, are working on this stuff, and
I want that third Doctor Strange movie had fourth and
a fifth, Like I just love that character so much.
(22:04):
I hope we just keep getting more and more. And
obviously Multiverse Madness was a big deal at the box office.
It made quite a bit of cheddar cheese. So yeah,
I'm I'm pretty excited for this. I hope this is
a story that we go down. I think it makes sense. Mephisto,
Doctor Strange, pair them up, get some other freaks in
there as getting into that realm, get ghost writer in there,
like I think there's a lot of potential and uh
(22:24):
and I want it. I want it really bad. This
would be like really top of the heap in terms
of excitement for me and MCU if this, if this
gets kind of more confirmed or if we hear more
murmurs of this one.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Yeah, And you know, I it's funny because I thought
that we would be getting my Fisto character a lot sooner.
I thought that we would be getting them. And nah,
I want.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
To say Doctor Strange a few years ago that everyone
was like hinted like was it was it Doctor Strange too,
that people were kind of the rumors were circling about that.
I think it might have been that.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
And I think I was definitely one of those one
of those people that suspected it because.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Of that, And then you were the ones spreading the rumors.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
I started you, Yeah, that was me. You have other
things like devil appearances. Maybe it was WandaVision as well.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
I think it could have been, but that seems like
a long time ago.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
That was a long time ago. There's so many different
projects where they were little nudges towards it. Heck, even
in she Hulk, I thought we were gonna get my
Fisto popping up in there to you at one point
because we got hell it looked like a hell kind
of realm with the demon things like coming out of
the portal and Wong and she Hulker fighting them.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Do you remember that scene. I don't know that scene.
That's crazy. I love that show. I don't know what's
going on.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Even the character Madison, she like made a deal with
some guy. I remember she was bragging about that she
made some deal and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
And I got to rewatch this show.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
My god, Yeah, there's there's there's so many little nods
towards a Fisto throughout the MCU. So to finally have him,
it's it's awesome. And I think to get him in
his full appearance, as I have a villain in this
in this Damnation run, I'm all for it. I think
that sounds freaking awesome. When I was looking at the
team that he that doctor Strange has the allies, I
(24:05):
guess that he works with. You got Wong, so that's classic.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Ghost writers, Johnny Blaze, Scarlet Spider elsa Bloodstone.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
I don't think we're getting Scarlet Spider. I just did
with the rights, you know, they're not gonna quote unquote
it wouldn't be a waste, but they would see it
that way as a waste of one of their potential appearances.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Probably, yeah, it would be. Yeah, but Doctor Voodoo have
you heard of him before?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
I have heard of him, but I don't I don't
know much about him. I don't know much of his biography.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Uh, mister Knight, which would be cool to see him
pop up again.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
I would be totally down.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Just he doesn't need his own project again, you know,
no more log truck scenes, but throw him in with
Doctor Strange. That'd be pretty sweet. That'd be pretty hype.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah, man Thing.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
I'm a huge fan of Man Thing ever since spopped
up in war Off by Night. I was just I
loved him. I'm pretty sure what was his name, Ted?
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Is that a name?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
I can't remember what his name was? But yeah, super cool,
super cool dude. I don't know if we'll see Blade
in here though.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Yeah, that's I'm gonna say, probably not on that one,
not til we get the Blade movie, which Marvel keeps
affirming they're making it happen.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Making it happen. And then there's a character called Ghostly Bats.
Have you heard of ghostly bats.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
That's a new character. I don't know who that is.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
No, that's just and even a ghostly bats, that's just what.
Oh bats, he's a dog. Oh he's a yeah, a
bass hound. Original owner of sixteen years suffered a heart
attack and left him in a shelter. He was adopted
two other times and was left under the care of
(25:39):
Stephen Strange during the time. He became a veterinarian after
being deposed from his title of Sorcerys Supreme. Strange enchanted
bats with a translation smell allowed people to interpret bats
sparks as English. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
People love bats or sorry, people love dogs, is what
I'm meant to say. I don't know if people love bats.
I'm sure people do. I've never heard of them them.
Iron Fist is another one. I don't know if you
mentioned him. But do you think I think this would
be a realm to get Iron Fist in here?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Or is he kind of I'm waiting for Danny Ran
to make that comeback. Let's pop him back in same
actor from the Netflix show. I'd be game, I'd be down.
But I like Iron Fist as a character. And when
we're watching What If I think there you you were.
Kirkland highlighted the iron fist kind of little easter egg
(26:27):
that was in the what If season, the final season
what If? I think it was that Western Train episode
they had. Yeah, yeah, maybe, as well as another one
I'm seeing is potentially related to.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
So yes, she's introduced by Nights. Get all the moon nights,
get them all in there for sure, that's where they belong.
I don't know if we're going to a Midnight Suns movie,
but just make the Doctor Strange movie the Midnight Suns movie, you.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Know, Yeah, absolutely, that's yeah, that's that's all. It's all
we need.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
I really really want it.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
It's it's not like their Avengers, like they're like the
Midnight Suns. They're they're an alternate kind of team, and
it'd be cool to see them all as Avengers. Uh detoll.
Iron Fist is in Eyes of Wakanda.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
I did not know that. To me, this is well,
I was gonna say excited. I don't know if I'm
not excited about that, but maybe it'll be cool. So
I guess he's getting introduced.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Detail can you confirm is that in the trailer that
dropped recently where you see him because I did not
catch that. What what are your sources? I need to
know this the source?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
And is there an actor? Is it? Is it the
same voice? Is it the voice of the guy who
played him in the Marvel.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I doubt it is. I'd be surprised. Yeah, man thing
Ted Sallas. Yeah, okay, his name was Ted. I knew it.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Yeah, so I don't.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
I don't think I have anything else on on that,
except for the fact that Mephisto, just like the previous
rubertuned Junior, There's Doom, is supposed to play a big
role in Supernatural projects after the Great Reset.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
What do you think about that? Yeah, I mean I
think Mephisto seems like a big deal of the character.
He seems to me like on the tier of a
Kang And obviously that's like a dirty word now in
the MCU, But in terms of, like in being a villain,
that you're not just one and done. He's not just
you know, he's not just in one movie the heroes
defeat him, he's killed or otherwise dispatch, and we never
(28:26):
see him again into like some weird multiverse thing. Like,
I think he's a character that sticks around. Obviously, you
still want a movie to have a big final ending
where the heroes defeat the bad guy. But I'm sure
there's a million ways you could have, you know, the devil,
the little slinky red foot, you could you could easily
make him persist past like being quote unquote defeated in
this one movie. Right, So I think this makes sense.
(28:47):
And yeah, even if it's not, I'm not saying he
should rise him to be the next then oh was
doctor Doom. But I think it would be cool if
he was kind of just this underlying villain that appears
in multiple projects, kind of weaves this other realm together,
and so it's kind of just this beep. Well, I
guess in the MCU that sounds like, uh, you know,
I'm putting it down, But I mean that in the
best way possible, just like this other fun little thread
(29:07):
that you can connect between these these projects, which apparently
now starts with Ironheart potentially, which is a weird place
for it to start. But I don't know, I think
this is a cool thing, and yeah, I just want
more and more characters from that realm of Marvel. I
think it fits. I think it works. We've seen it before,
and so yeah, I hope I hope this happens, and yeah,
I think make them stick around for a bit too,
because Mephisto's a villain, a Marvel character I know almost
(29:29):
nothing about as well, So for me, this is gonna
be fun to really get introduced to this character in
a big way for the first time. Because, yeah, all
the games and you know, movies and TV shows that
I've watched over the years of Marvel, Mephisto's one I
always hear about, but I've never actually seen a project
with the character in there, so I don't I don't
know what he's about. I don't know, I don't know
his vibe. So I'm excited to learn about that.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Yeah, I now this could be something that I'm just
not fully aware on. But when I'm with the ghost writer,
I mean, you have Mephistopheles, who I guess is the
same as Mephisto. Correct, Is that that's a question for me? No, not,
who's Pharasophles mephistoph I think that's Mephisto. I'm assuming because
(30:16):
it's literally the same name, but because Mephistopheles is the
guy that gave Johnny Blaze's powers and at least in
the Nick.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Cage movie that sounds like Mephisto to me.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Yeah, yeah, so I guess anything that whenever. The fact
that we've seen Mephisto on here, it just makes me
feel like, Okay, we're one step closer to ghost Rider,
and if Damnation is true.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Yeah, there is smoke for ghost Rider right now. I
think I think we're getting them soon. Yeah, your times
to come here, da times to come?
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Do you think it could be Nick Cage or you
think it's gonna be someone new?
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Maybe one time, like like how we got Snipes Blade
when we're one last ride, But I think they're gonna
cast someone else to be him going forward.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yeah, yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
But if there's any movie to have a weird multiverse
in which a different ghostwriter comes in for one scene
and dies or or doesn't, it would be a Doctor
Strange movie. That would be that. I mean that was
many of the rumors for Multiverse, right, Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Honestly, I like it. I could see it where if
it is, if it is all multiverse and whatnot, you
got Johnny Blaze from uh like another universe Nick Cage's version,
and he comes and he's about to die and he
like sees it Johnny Blaze in his universe or in
this other universe, this other multiverse, and he like gives
the spirit aventions over to him and he becomes the
main ghost writer, kind of like in Spider Verse when
(31:37):
the Spider comes and jumps universes and like bites Miles morales.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Kind of a deal. Yeah, yeah, I like that. That's one.
Yeah lineage.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Do you have anything else you want to add to uh,
to these topics?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
No, I think, I think, not think not.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Okay, we're gonna take our first ad break and we're
gonna break down some trailers.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
We'll be right back and we are back.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Okay, So.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
We've got.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Some beautiful, wonderful trailers, and I'll let you start. I
know where I'm gonna start, but I'm gonna let you
take us in on the trailers. What do you want
to run with?
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Okay, I'm not gonna lie this. We may not have
had any Star Wars trailers here, but this was a
bad batch, if you know what I mean. This was
not a prime selection of trailers in terms of in
terms of my excitement level. So I guess the first
one I'll i will highlight is one that I actually
(32:34):
think looks really great and the rest, you know, not
so great. Is a movie called Eternity. Eternity is a
I guess you'd call it a drama sci fi ese
sort of thing, fantasy, something like that Highlight on the
drama though with with Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen and
then another guy that I'm not sure or who are
kind of in a bit of a love triangle.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
The premise is that when you you get to choose
one person who you gonna spend eternity with, Elizabeth Olsen's
character has, you know, a newer husband, but then she
had a husband from many many years ago, and they're
both kind of waiting there for her, and so she
kind of picked between them, and it seems like it's
gonna be a really emotional journey. I think this looks
really great. I like that. I like the premise. It
(33:18):
seems like just silly enough, but obviously, like most just
mostly a ton of potential for some really heartbreaking stuff.
And obviously her I'm gonna make a decision at the
end there. I don't think we're gonna get some weird
twists where the two guys end up choosing each other
and she's left on her own. I don't think we're
gonna get something like that, something weird, But I think
this looks. This looks really solid. I haven't seen Elizabeth
(33:38):
Olden than anything recently, so I'm excited to check this
one out, I think. And it seems like a fun
role for Miles Teller as well. So this is probably
the top of the heap for me. I would say, Oh,
I don't know if it's top for me, but it looks.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
It looks fun. I think there's a interesting kind of
idea that isn't attached to here. Yeah, you know, you're
dead and you get to choose kind of where you
want to go, and you've got these I guess spirits
that are like advertising, like, hey.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
You want to come try this out? Yeah? Da da.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
You know you gotta be careful which path you pick.
But yeah, I think I think it's gonna have a
very wholesome, kind of good kind of vibe to it.
It's just it's I was trying to understand the time
dilation component of this, because like, he just died, and
then Elizabeth Olsen looks like she just died, but then
her previous husband was waiting around, but it looked like
(34:31):
their photo was like decades ago. So was she reincarnated
or something like? I just I wasn't sure.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe when you die you get
put back in like your quote unquote prime, you know,
so maybe she was like seventy when she died, but
they put her back in like her hot like forty
year a ball. I don't know who Elizabeth Olten is,
but you know, put her back in like her prime.
You know. Maybe that's what it is because everyone was
there any old people in there? Or were they all
kind of like there's a couple I think, but not
(35:00):
really not elderly. But maybe those people were in their
prime when they were seventy, you know, maybe they had
a really rough life and that was actually there when
they were their highest physical health peak. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yeah, yeah, good point. I don't know the rules, Yeah,
but yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to it. Nonetheless, Yeah, uh,
do you want me to pick the next turn?
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Or where do you want to go? Let's let's let's
ping pong this bad boy?
Speaker 1 (35:29):
You go, Okay, I'm gonna pick it's Welcome to Darry
because holy criky, I did not realize another trailer came out.
I remember the first trailer that they dropped, and that
one got me pretty jazz. But this one, oh my gosh,
it really did it. I I Madison is She's she
(35:49):
gets on my case about it, because usually once the
fall rules around Halloween, she's like, Okay, let's watch it's
chapter one. It's chapter one, and she'll she'll watch it
chapter two as well, but we kind of fall off,
will pass out that one because it's not as refined
as that first one. That first one is some genuine
quality and I love that movie so very much. This
(36:09):
trailer and what we got shown here it gave me
it chapter one quality vibes. I'm really really liking it.
It just seems freaking yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
I need you to explain that to me, because I
to me, this looked like kind of a little budget,
didn't look great. So I'm curious what it is about
this that really puts you on that tier. Like to me,
thinking back to even those first trailers, those just wowed
and this just doesn't seem anywhere near that to me.
So I'm curious what I'm missing.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
My fear is that the story. I hope it's not
going to be really dragged on. I hope it's going
to be pretty like concise to the point and gets
the message across. But the things that really sold me
was just certain cinematic moments in this trailer. The jar
pickles and you see this hand rolling around in there,
and other shots too where they're looking out the window
and you see just the silhouette of Pennywise standing there,
(36:58):
And that's probably maybe little biased, but the fact that
Scar's guard is coming back is penny Wise, I am
probably biased for it. He's just a fantastic villain and
him coming back for that is great. But there's just
the eeriness and just the town feeling more toxic and
disturbed than it did before in the movies. This time
(37:22):
it just feels like everyone is just sick and yeah,
just disgruntled. Something is unhealthy and like infecting this planet
and another this town not planet. The other thing that
I'm really really looking forward to is getting maybe a
little bit more backstory and just like the Turtle and
how all, there's this whole kind of overarching narrative that
(37:44):
we don't really understand or know about when it comes
to Penny Wise. Because I think the Turtle is this entity,
this celestial thing that he's afraid of, and you have
other components kind of involved too, and yeah, it's it's
a can of worms. But and I don't know a
lot about the story, but I want to learn more,
and I think this is going to do a good
job at kind of showing us more information about Penny
(38:07):
Wise as the celestial kind of entity.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Right, because because I mean, what is it thirty years?
Is that he comes back every thirty years? Is that
the timeframe twenty years? Thirty? Was it thirty?
Speaker 1 (38:16):
I think it's thirty, I'll confirm.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Yeah, so this this is a prequel I guess, right,
like to our to the movies that we got. Yeah, yeah,
so it's like the thirty year period before. I guess it.
Chapter one is essentially the setting here. So yeah, there's
potentially but obviously that means we're not getting any other
characters other than Scars bar. But it's funny. When I
was watching the trailer, to me, it felt like kind
of budget, Like the visuals didn't look top knowledge. Some
(38:40):
of the coloration looked kind of weird, which you know,
maybe that stuff will look different when when the show's
actually out. But getting Scars got is one of the
things that feels like, oh yeah, okay, there is budget
hearer's care and attention to detail, but yeah, I don't know.
I guess I have to see it to believe it
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
So twenty seven years you're spot on with that.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Yeah, yeah, because you're not a big horror TV show guy, right,
Like you're not watching The Blind Manners in the Hillhouses
and all these kinds of things, right, No, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
And it's just because I feel like a lot of
them just have a really really slow kind of burn
to them, but this this.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Will probably have a pretty slow burn. Like I don't
even know, I like, really the end, like maybe the
Last Guard, you just get like jars of pickles and stuff,
you know, and just flying around in the bayou and whatever.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
That's all you yet, Yeah, just one balloon. I'm afraid
that this might just be a bit of a slow burn.
But lately I feel like I'm kind of I'm I'm
engaging with that good story and that's kind of filling
up my my hunger for you know, not just the
scare jumps and the creepy that kind of creepy stuff.
And I think that there's so many creepy kind of
(39:55):
esthetics and an atmosphere that's emanating from at least the
trailer and all these different scenes. That's kind of like
reeling me in a little bit. But you're right, I
don't think we'll probably see penny Wise at least to
like the penultimate episode or maybe the finale, Right, you'll
see his little minions and his little weird little shin
digs that he's doing.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Yeah, but I mean maybe this I don't know if
this is a binge or weekly drop, but if it
is beinge dropped, then that's not too big of a deal.
You know.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Oh it's HBO, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Five episodes? I think is what I saw?
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Five episodes. If it's if it's coming on Crave, then
I'm willing to bet that it's gonna be uh weekly.
We think that's what they do. That's yeah, because that's
so they do with Game of Thrones, House of Dragon
all that, so it makes sense. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yeah, it's interesting because I feel like in the previous
because we had like the TV movie right back in
the day and then the part one Part two, which
you know, covers like two different time periods. But this
seems like now we're getting the longest single project because
I'm guessing this all takes place in that one time period.
Like I don't know if we're going to do a
time jump to the twenty seven years later, right, because
(40:59):
that would jump us to like the characters of chapter
one unless this is like two cycles back. I don't
know the math on like the timeframe of it, but
I'm guessing it's all in that one time period, like
twenty seven years before chapter one, right, Yes, Yes, that's
it's funny because I feel like every time we've had
like okay, I guess it was like the TV movie,
which is pretty much like two movies kind of splice
(41:19):
together in the two different time period. Same thing for
the newer movies. But this is gonna be like potentially
like the most amount of time screen time for like
the shortest period of time, I guess. So that'll be
interesting to see, like the kind of little details they
decide to fill in there. I wonder how much connectivity
will be the later ones. I mean, it's a long
period of time other than like just direct penywise lower,
I don't know what you do, but I don't know.
(41:41):
We'll see for me, this is definitely gonna be like
a wait to see other people watch it and then
give me the review of it and then decide if
I want to watch it kind of thing. But it
sounds like you're there.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Oh, I'm there, I'm there. I'm sure we'll be popping
off and doing a review. I'm sure Travis will be
on board for for it. And Kirks he loves clowns.
Was Kirklin a part of the first two chapters?
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Yeah, he was the director and writer I believe.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Oh, of course, of course, yes, because he's a big
horror fan, big horror fan.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Yeah, he's he's picking and choosy with his horror. But
I think he likes those movies. I think we all,
I think we were all frothing them both for those ones. Right, yes, yeah, yeah, cool?
Speaker 1 (42:23):
All right, which which trailer you want to pick next?
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Okay, let's bring up this one in honor of super
Bad Mike. So we didn't originally have this on our list,
but he asked us too, So he said, could you
guys watch and talk about Spartacus House of Asher trailer?
And he also has to you have any history with
the original Spartacus show and if not, does this trailer
make you curious about it. So yeah, I feel like
(42:47):
I probably talked about this maybe when we did our
Gladiator retrospective and review that like that, those kinds of
movies like three hundred and uh, you know, the original Gladiator,
and I guess Sparta as well, Like this is not
my my realm of things. I'm very not knowledgeable and
it's not really my I perform more like fantasy things
(43:07):
than like I guess that time period in setting. Now,
Gladiator was fun to do. That original movie is really good,
and Anyone was fine, it was alright, But I don't
think I have it in me to watch like an
eight episode run of like a similar kind of story.
And I think the big biggest reason for me is like, well,
one I don't I think with the new Gladiader is
obviously that's what I'm comparing it too, because that's like
(43:28):
really my only point of comparison. It's like the battles,
you know, the scale of them, the visuals, but then
also really intriguing characters. Even from the trailers, I'm like,
I want to know what that guy's story is. I
want to know what's going on with the guy. Why
is that guy with that weird, look what's going on here?
What's going on there? And I feel like I didn't
really get that from this trailer. Unfortunately, there wasn't anyone
that that I that was latched onto me. Obviously, I
don't know anyth about the source material, original, any of
(43:48):
that sort of stuff, so I'm completely in the dark.
I do think the premise, I guess like the main character.
I assume she's the main character who's kind of rising
up the ranks, and she's obviously kind of the odd
one out because she's not a man. I'm sure there's
also gonna be like a racial component to that as well,
because he's a black woman's that's like two layers that
she's maybe different than like everyone else kind of around
her in that way. And so I think there's potential
(44:09):
for a really good story there, but I don't know. Yeah,
it's not really my cup of tea necessarily, So Glad
I checked the trailer because like, obviously I'm more into
this now that I've seen glad Eator than I would
be otherwise. But yeah, I don't really uh think this
one will be for me. But yeah, do you have
any do you have any history with the original is this? Uh,
this one your fancy at all? This does?
Speaker 1 (44:31):
I don't know if I'm gonna watch it right away,
but yeah, this this show. I remember my friend telling
me about it. And I can't remember if I was
still in high school or if I just graduate or whatnot.
I was young and I was too young to be
watching this show because I remember, Uh, I got my
friend let me copies of it, and I watched it
(44:52):
with my dad, which it's a it's not something I
would recommend if watching with your your mom or your
dad because the amount of.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Super violent.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Oh my god, the violence is is definitely brutal, but
it's it's there's worst glorier things out there. It's the
sex mostly just there's like tons of Like I I
it's just so much sex. So but little Taylor was
having a great time with it. There's a Yeah, there's
(45:22):
just an awesome story though. That's that's involved here where
just the gladiators like this one to sum it up
and in short terms, here, uh, these these guys were
recruited by the Romans to help fight and then they
were betrayed and the Romans took him prisoner and threw
them into the arena, so his gladiators, and so you
have the main gladiator who becomes Spartakiss and he basically
(45:44):
gets his freedom or doesn't get it. He takes his
freedom by staging a rebellion and whatnot. And I've not
finished the show. I've watched season one and two. I've
not seen season three. There was another spin off of Spartakuss,
because I have a Spartacus Blood and Sand I think
was the first one, and there's another spin off and
then this House of Asher. So I believe Asher is
(46:08):
he was in the first show, and he was like
an injured gladiator who kind of just like became like
a man of whispers if you can imagine what that
kind of a character would be like, and kind of
like that, yeah yeah, yeah, kind of like a snake
or whatever, making bets and whatnot, but playing all the sides.
So him being in this position, I've I'm not sure.
(46:30):
I don't know how he's come to this point in
time to be running his own house, running his own gladiators,
but it seems like he's an underdog. People are treating
him like shit. But like I said, I'm interested in
this and I'm gonna definitely give it a watch at
some point, but probably not right away.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
Cool okay, and with Spartacus is the name of a guy,
right mm hmm. And I was seeing the YouTube comments,
people are like both of them to call this thing
Spartacus House of Asher when there's when Spartacus isn't in it?
Is that? What's going on here? Is he like not
in the show? Uh? If I remember correctly, I think
is he dead or something?
Speaker 1 (47:07):
I don't know if I remember correctly, I thought I
could be completely wrong, so don't quote me on this.
I thought that the character dies in the last season,
but I could be wrong. I don't know when this
story takes place though.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Right, so maybe they're just trying to siphon off some
of that name value. Interesting that can that goes that
always goes great? Right mm hmm?
Speaker 1 (47:30):
Absolutely back to you, Yes, okay, what should I pick here?
You know what I'm I'm just gonna pick five nights
Freddy's soon soon, five nights at Freddy's. Yeah, I I
remember when we watched that first one. It was okay,
(47:54):
I don't really know much about this world, aside from
having played a little bit of the games Rubin the
VR had set on me and I had to play
fully immersed and that was terrifying. But this one looks
like it's a very, very much an improvement of the
first one. I like that we're kind of going into
the open world, but it just feels more like high
quality and it feels like it's kind of tackling and
(48:17):
going after.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
An original.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
It feels more in tune with the game to some
slight degree instead of that I don't know if that's
gonna make sense. The first one was very much reliant
on playing the card of like, hey, you know this moment,
it's in the game, Whereas this one, it just feels
like the aesthetic is there instead of the scene being
blatantly copied from the game. I think that's what I'm
trying to say.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Okay, I gotcha. Yeah, a little more creative freedom perhaps
from the most material. Yeah, yeah, I don't know, Like
I've someone's seen the first one. I got that same
vibe as you, though that maybe seems like a bit
more wider scope. You know, we're not just in that one.
What is it? Is it an arcade? Is it like
an old Scandia vibe? What's going on? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (49:04):
Yeah, old scandya i'd say, is.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
It old scandya, old amusement parks sort of energy, So yeah,
I don't know. I guess that's that's potentially interesting. But yeah,
I imagine the games don't go there, necessarily, probably staying
in these weird amusement park things. So not much for
me to say this, you know, I think the first
one looked like a fairly generic core movie. This seems
like the same sort of thing. So, but the first
(49:26):
one made big money, so I'm not surprised that this
is coming around. We'll probably got a third one too.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Yeah, the third one would be quite something.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
You got Josh Hotcherson in there, and he's always just
at the light and the girl from from You season one, right, Oh,
that's right. I didn't even click me the first Joe
Goldberg Victary I think it is.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Yeah, I didn't even I didn't even make that connection.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
I was just looking at Josh. Gotta look at Josh. Yeah,
but I don't think I've seen her in anything else,
So that's potentially the first one.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
Not no, not that I remember, Josh just had there
was a girl in Yeah, it wasn't wasn't pretty, it
wasn't pretty. Bath Yeah, all right.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Well, speaking about blood baths, how about how about we
talk about good fortune here? So god damn, this has
to be like the most the most like sterile comedy
script I've ever seen in my life. Like this was
an absolute fucking zero, And I feel bad because he's
(50:30):
un sorry, he's like the writer director on this, so
it's like, you know, he's starring in it's like his
movie's writing and if he's not one other things like this,
I like him as a guy. He's funny, He definitely
has a shtick. This actually does seem like it's not
him just doing his same like squirrely, high pitched like
little stick that he's doing, so it's maybe something different,
but man, like, it is hard to make Seth Rogan
(50:51):
not funny and he's just he's just a nothing in
this in this trailer. And like I like the idea
of the casting here for Keanu, like making him like
a you know what is it a fairy godmother angel
type type vibe the angel on your shoulder coming down
and give us some life advice and whatnot. But like,
god damn, just the writing in this is absolute trash.
(51:11):
And I feel like if this is what you if
these are your best singers you got for your trailer.
I'm not hopeful for the rest of this movie, so
I I don't know. I would rather watch Avatar, Fire
and Ash than Good Fortune, I think. I don't know
if that's true actually, just because of how long Avatar is.
But that's brutal, that's well, do you have a different
(51:34):
Do you have a better fortune for this one than
I did? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (51:38):
I did enjoy the trailer, but I will grease seth
Rogen is feeling pretty dry in here, and it's definitely
the Keanu Reeves stuff that makes me laugh the most.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
What made you laugh? Give me a funny moment that
you liked, But I thought, here, but I need to know.
Speaker 1 (51:56):
So for example, one of the things I liked was
like the other angel is giving him grief about why
did you do this? Why'd you switch their lives around?
And he's like, well, I thought by showing him that
money isn't everything, uh, you know, then he'd find the answer.
But he kind of you know, money did solve all
his problems. You know, I'm paraphrasing, but that line it
(52:17):
made me laugh. And when he's in the bed with
seth Rogen, you know, like the wings do matter when
you're trying to fly? I got small ways like that.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
I think it's just the way Keanu sells it. He's
got just a straight face.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
You think he's okay, I'm going to take my name.
I didn't feel like. I don't know if he's trying
to sell it. I don't know it's for people. Am
I alone on this island or do other people? You're
not potential? I don't know. I think this looks like
a dud on wheels.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
He's he's so bland about the things that he's saying
that it just that's that's making me laugh because it
feels like an innocent form of humor, whereas other characters
they're trying and I don't like when people are trying
hard to just be funny. Keanu is one of those
people that he just does things and and if he's
doing if he's doing it in john Wick, that's one thing.
But if he's just acting like very monotone in a
(53:09):
comedic atmosphere, it makes me laugh, which is it's weird
to put it that way.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
I see you, okay, yeah, yeah, I get that. I
feel like most comedies have that kind of character, right,
like the straight man.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
As it's called, right, yeah, yeah, usually, but it.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
Feels like everyone the straight man. There's just no funny
people there, just there you go, straight man. Good.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Yeah, I think I think the idea is fun, but
I could have used over all a little bit more,
a little more refinement.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
Yeah, is that all the other ones? Aside from the
big hunk of honk?
Speaker 2 (53:48):
There's one more one battle after another? Okay, which with
Leo DiCaprio.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Oh right, right, yes, yeah, would.
Speaker 2 (53:58):
You think of that one?
Speaker 1 (54:01):
It caught me off guard because I remember seeing the
other trailer This is with Benicio del Toro, right, yes, yeah,
so I remember seeing the other trailer that felt a
little bit more comedic, and then watching this one it
just seemed like it it gives you a lot more
context of the story, and it just is a lot
more serious than that previous trailer.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
I feel. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
I'm not rushing to see this one right away, but
I'll probably watch it. You know, eleven thirty at night,
it's a Saturday night. Everyone's to bed, and I'm just
looking for something to watch and I'll probably put it on.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
Yeah. Interesting, Yeah, I mean I feel like when I
anytime I see DiCaprio in anything these days, I feel
like it's extremely It feels like he's extremely selective, right,
like he's either like trying to get some oscars or
he's just doing like highbrow things, like he's not really
like I feel like maybe the weirdest thing he did
was like don't Look Up, but like that's still a
really great movie that has like a good message and
(54:54):
all that. It's just like more comedic focus, which is
like not really what he's normally doing. But like other
than that, it's like he's going for like the biggest
directors in town that are just you know, pooping out
oscars every day of their life, and so this feels
like one of those to me to some extent. And
so this director. The last movie was Liquorice Pizza, which
I did not like that it was extremely overrated. So
(55:16):
I'm not super hyped on this. I don't know. I
guess there wasn't like a great hook in here. It
seems like there's a lot going on. It seems like
almost a TV series in terms of the amount of
different storylines and things going on in here. But I
think this one definitely has a lot of potential because
of the cast, because of you know, the talent behind
it and all that. So, but you know, as as
is kind of obvious here off my pressure of the trailer.
(55:37):
I'm gonna wait and see kind of what the impression
is from from the discord and the realms around to
see if this is, like, I don't know, if this
is supposed to be like a big Oscar movie contender.
We'll see it seems like a bit early in the
year for that maybe, but I could see it being
one of those potentially. Yeah, right on, Yeah, cool.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
Okay, Well listen, gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for. Dylan,
tell me how excited you are for Avatar, Fire and
ash Avatar.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
Is this the first trailer? Second trailer? What's going on here?
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Is the first trailer?
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Okay? Yeah, I guess that's because people make a big
deal this being before F four. Uh yeah, I mean,
you know, you can go back to the Wave of
Water review if you want to. I was the first
one to talk in our opening sequence, and then I
kind of ripped it open there. I was not a
fan of that movie, and uh I pretty much said like, yeah,
I'm out, I'm out. On Avatar. I'm you know, you're
(56:29):
you're not gonna get me back in the theater for
this next one. You know, a review will happen, I'm
sure with other people, but I'm not gonna be part
of it. And after watching this trailer, I couldn't be
less interested in in Avatar. Is this is nothing for me?
It's funny. It's like I see this and my obviously
is a like good visuals and stuff, but like, I
don't know, I just the characters don't work for me.
(56:50):
Like the tone feels very cheesy, but like not intentionally so,
and like I just like that the editing was actually
rudin this trailer almost feels like I feel like James
Cameron is so big and with this movie only the
only marketing you need to do is like for people
to know that it exists and then it has a
release date. You know, you don't actually need like a
good trailer, And I don't think this was a good trailer.
(57:11):
But I'm also kind of a hater, I guess, so
that's totally a fair criticism. But I just feel like
the editing was really weird. You just have like weird
lines of dialogue across like this really intense emotional music
that just like wasn't working. I don't know, it seems
like more of just the second one. Like I don't
know what the evolution is here. I didn't get much
of the what the fire means, you know, in terms
(57:32):
of the symbolism of it. I'm not sure what's going
on there. But I'm gonna leave this review up to
the professionals Akau and Kirkland and Travis if he wants
to join this time around. But uh, I'm still out
on Avatar, and I don't think there's a single thing
you could do to get me in on it. Honestly,
I don't. I don't know if there I don't know
how this trailer could have been the best trailer I've
seen in my life. And I still don't think I
(57:54):
would be down to go see Avatar three. There you
have it, my goodness.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
I I I love Avatar, that first one. I've watched
it again again and again. It's uh two thousand and nine.
Just the quality of that movie, it just visually is
a spectacle. Uh.
Speaker 2 (58:14):
The second one, I I like it. I like a
fair bit.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
There's definitely some weak points to it, but it uh
it you know, I'm I'm always willing to take a
tour on Pandora. It's it's it's a dang good time.
And I'm I'm a sucker for the emotional story points
that these these Avatar movies are putting out, just with
nature and connecting with the animals and and all that
(58:41):
kind of stuff and just your you know, your own
humanity and and everything like that and betraying your race.
But I am I I was doubtful that we were
going to be getting this movie. It just felt surreal
that we're gonna be getting this third one now after
just i mean, it was so long before we got
the next one, over ten years, so it just didn't
(59:02):
feel like we were actually going to get another one
right away. But no, here we are, we're getting it.
The trailer it doesn't tell you much. It really only
covers the basics that, okay, they're they're moving from one
place to another, and the next place they're moving to
has other Navi that exists there, and these Navi are
not friendly and they are fire ash all that kind
(59:25):
of stuff, and it's a totally different playing field that
we're we're dealing with. So it'll be interesting to see
how this goes. There is a lot of water stills camera.
You know, he likes the water. He loves the water,
So you've got yeah, you've got the you have like
a parallel here where you have Jake Suley who has
(59:46):
kind of taken over the role of becoming the leader
for all these these nav that live in the trees,
and then you've got Quorridge, who is basically becoming the
I'm assuming a leader or a very prominent representative for
the Fire and Ash Klan, and you're going to have
these two square off against each other. Ultimately, I'm just wondering,
(01:00:08):
are we going to see the Fire and Ash tribe
team up with Jake Sully's tribe and have just a
unified Navvy planetary force just defend against the humans because
we know that the humans are coming to Pandora to
Terra format so that they can basically all live there
because Earth is dying. So I'm excited to see kind
(01:00:30):
of what the next step is in that that narrative,
because with the Way of Water just felt like, Okay, well,
Jack Silly and his family are on the run. That's
that's really it. We got a little a couple of
battles and they're just they're hunting him down and and whatnot.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how this is
going to set up, because we've got another few Avatar
movies and the works. They're they're not slowing down there,
(01:00:50):
They're going full steam ahead. So I am looking forward
to it. I sent this the trailer to my sister.
Remember I'm sister likes Avatar a lot, and I remember
I baby me and Madison baby sat her kids so
that she could go with her husband to see Avatar.
They did face paint and everything when they went and
saw it. They were so they were so jazzed for it.
(01:01:11):
But I will say during Fantastic Four, when the trailer played, uh,
some people in the theater laughed, not like after the trailer.
I think it wasn't like a belly laugh, but it
was just like a haha another Avatar okay, haakay.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Liked it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
I guess yeah, something like that or yeah, I'm along
those lines.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
But you can one point when Sigourney Weaver's characters like,
oh no, Spider. But it's like in like this really
dramatic winter, it was like really took me out of
the took me out of the emotion there, spider.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
I don't need you know, you can always just you
could pull a spider out of there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Let's get rid of them.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
Yeah, I get about.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
Cool. Well, I think that that does it for the uh,
the trailers.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
But we have a question that when you do answer yes, so,
Maddie has graciously brought back the rank your trailers in
terms of your excitement for the project question.
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
I missed this. I feel like the last couple wgs
I've been on, I haven't been asked to rank them,
and I can't rank them if I'm not asked to
do so. All right, Number one for me Eternity, number two,
one battle after another. Number three it Welcome to Darry,
Number four, Spartacus, number five, five Nights of Freddy's. And
(01:02:36):
here is where I'm not. I'm not just filled with hatred.
Number six for me is Avatar. Number seven is good Fortune.
Good Fortune is below Avatar and the trailer ranking for me.
So that's how you know I'm not completely biased against Avatar.
I'm gonna give it a chance. I'm not gonna see it.
I'm just saying I gave the trailer a chance, so
good Fortune. I'm sorry disease. But your movie is a
(01:02:58):
bottom of the bottom of the heap. There we go,
there we go. What am I gonna do?
Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
I'm gonna do. Number one is It's Welcome to Dry
That trailer got me, It got me really really excited.
Oh I'm dirty, dirty, dirty, got me really jazz. Number
two is Avatar fire and ash can't wait for that.
After that, I'm gonna say, I'll say five nights at Freddy's,
(01:03:28):
followed by good Fortune, followed by Eternity, and then one
battle after another.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Wow. Okay, so we almost we almost had a bit
of a Philip Eru almost one. But there was definitely
some mirroring occurring. Okay, good I like that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
You do.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
Cool.
Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
So we're gonna take our next ad break and we'll
be getting into the last little bit of our show.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
We'll be right back, hey, and we are back. Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
So our first TV film show, rum Merchant Test here
is uh Aaron Taylor Johnson and William Defoe both supposedly
popping back into the uh David Edgars projects here with Werewolf?
Is it?
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
David Egs?
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
I completely did not feel confident in saying that. Robert,
thank you, David Agar Robert David Ayers is a guy
I think David as Yeah, I feel confident in saying that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
My mind went blank. I just thought, David, thank you.
He's back. He's making Werewolf. He made Nosferatu, so he's
bringing his two boys back. Uh. So Aaron Taylor Johnson
is the lead. This is interesting because he was kind of,
I guess is in a supporting role in Nosaratu. Who's
actually the one character I was not totally vibing within that.
(01:04:54):
I just felt like his tone to me wasn't fitting,
like the tone of his character wasn't really fitting, uh
the movie. Overall. For me, I'm actually excited to see
him in another leading role here because I feel like
this is an actor who's got a lot of potential,
but he just needs to be placed just right. And
so I'm hopeful that, you know, obviously they've worked together before,
him and the director, so hopefully this is him being
(01:05:16):
placed just right. But unfortunately, I feel like Aaron Taylor
Johnson does have a bit of a quite a level
of variance For me. I just I either love him
or hate him. He's one of those for me, and
so I'm hoping I'm on the love side. Because obviously no,
It's fraud was great where Wolf seems like a good
obviously material for this this director, of course, and Defoe,
I mean, this guy gets a home run every time
(01:05:39):
he's up to bat. So I mean, he's just he's
gonna nail it. He's gonna be some weird freak. He's
gonna be fantastic. He could be though, Werewolf, I don't know.
He could do it all and I'll be there for it.
Willem Dafoe, he does a mess, So I'm excited for this.
I will say, when when I first read this, because
we've ben meming about Willem Dafoe and Anya Taylor Joy,
and when I saw Aaron Taylor Johnson the denominator there
(01:06:03):
being the Taylor, I thought this was like gonna be
them leading the thing together, like whoa. The rumors keeping
a swirling that these two are like married or dating
or something, which is a weird mix to be sure.
But Anya Taylor Joy was in what's it called The Witch,
so she's been in the Eggers Egger's realm as well.
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
So she was also in The North Men.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Oh yeah, she's been on the block when it comes
to the Eggers stuff, but it's been she's been on
the bench for a little bit. Unfortunately she has been. Yeah,
she gave her spot to Dafoe her. That's right, husband
to be.
Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
It's it's kind of funny how Aaron Taylor Johnson and
Anya Taylor Joyce showed the same initials.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Uh WHOA, Yeah, I never pieced together to the ATJ
because I've never called her ATJ. We call him ATJ.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
Yeah, yeah, we can call her ATJ now too.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
I guess her she has less does she have less
syllables in her name?
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Her?
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Her name just flows, But Aaron Taylor Johnson feels like
a freaking mouthful sometimes. Anya Taylor joy Aaron Taylor Johnson.
So she has one less syllable. So that's not a
big difference.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
Yeah, yeah, not really, but it does flow, it does
flow better. Yeah, I am so excited for this movie.
I mean not Spraut too, was just the be's knees.
What a fantastic time. And so for this now with
with doing like the werewolf side of things, absolutely this
is this is great for a franchise. Franchise, I guess
(01:07:29):
a theme vampires. Just you think that they would have
exhausted it by now. But they keep just hitting home runs.
I love the Last Voyage of the Demeter. What was
the other vampire project that came out Sinners, Sinners, thank you,
Oh my god? Ten out of ten. Fantastic in the peak.
Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Vampire era, aren't we We're doing pretty good right now?
We are? We are.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
We've got to keep that, keep that rolling with with
these creatures.
Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
So exact movie was pretty good too, right, wasn't it
the one that came ear earlier this year? Or wolf Man?
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Yes, the wolf Man. That movie was fantastic. I saw
that in theaters. That was freaking awesome. Oh I love
that movie. That was really really good. The one that
came out with god what is his name?
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
He played? We also had Night Bitch. That's a kind
of werewolf movie, right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Yeah, I didn't really like that one that much. There
was another one that came out and it was like
a dog Soldiers meets Underworld kind of vibe. He has
the guy who played Crossbones. He's played Rick Flke Senior.
I can't remember the name of him. I don't know, ah,
but yeah, he's he's not The movie was not great,
(01:08:39):
not great, but anyways, anyways, yeah, I can't have it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
Did not.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
I would have done better if it had Willem Dafoe
in there, for sure, of course. But let me ask
you this still, and what do you know about Dredd dread?
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Well, this is Judge Dread right, same realm? Correct? So
we did that? Was it was that the twenty twelve
Golden Geeks that we covered that one, right?
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Or did we do a retro for No, that was
a Golden Geeks, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
Yeah, so it didn't. We didn't do a retro on it,
but it came up in conversation because it was one
of the movies that we were that was on our
our to do list, and so that was the first
time I had seen that, of course, and I liked it.
It was a solid movie, a good concept. It seems
like there's a lot of potential there. Now that's funny
just because obviously that movie came out a while ago,
but I just watched it last year, so to me,
(01:09:31):
it feels too fresh and I'm like not fiending for
more of this Judge Dread world. And with Taika man,
this guy, he he's all over the place. He's all
over the map in terms of quality, but especially with
that soccer movie did which was just dog shit that
was not not good at all. But even though that
was like an original concept, I think for him, like
(01:09:52):
I kind of still want him to do more original stuff,
just because he has so many weird, crazy ideas and
I want to see more of that stuff. And obviously
him doing an ip thing. I do think this is
a pretty good one to do. It's like not too overplayed.
It seems like it's got a good mix of like
he he can do his action stuff, he can do
his character stuff, you can do some comedy in there,
so it seems like a decent mix. I guess it's
(01:10:12):
just not like the thing I'd be most excited to see,
well really from anyone, but even specifically from him, and
the Taika isms that I like, I just don't. I
guess I wouldn't see this as like I wouldn't put
this in a draft of like, oh I gotta see
Taycho make this kind of movie, But I'm open to it.
I will probably watch it, like, you know, not in theaters,
but like in the air comes out. I'll definitely watch
(01:10:32):
this movie and hopefully it's good, because yeah, I want
Tayka to kind of be on topic and it feels
like it's been a bit since his since his finest work,
so hopefully hopefully can get back to that point.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
Yeah, I haven't seen really anything recent of Taika's, but
I do know that some of his things can be
kind of hit or miss.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
And Zany I.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
Would prefer to get another Judge Dread movie with Curlor.
I think that that would be my kind of level
of hype because I really like that that Dread movie
with him, and just the vibe of just being like
the raid where they're trapped in this tower as just
chaos and fighting and everything. I think it's really really cool.
(01:11:14):
But I'm gonna give him a chance see what's going on.
I think it's a franchise that we should definitely get
tapped into a little bit because I think the original
was Sylvester Stallone that played Dread if I'm not mistaken,
which I've not seen that original to me, neither make
a point to eventually, but yeah, we'll see what comes
of this. Next on the list is National Treasure three.
(01:11:38):
Reportedly a script is being written right this one.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
I gotta just volley it back to you because I've
not seen these and I know you're a big fan
so you.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
Can see any National Jurgy.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Taylor, I'm sorry, I have not my God Treasure list
over here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Oh man, well, I gotta I gott a declaration of
independence that I'm about to I'll whip out him show
you someday.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
Yeah, I think the movies are fantastic. Me and Kirkland,
we'll just we'll put them on every once in a while,
just watch them and they just stay satisfy. That edge
Nicholas Cage is amazing in them. I watched the TV
show they did on Disney Plus. It was okay. It
had some isms, but it did not really capture the magic.
Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
For me.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
If I'm craving National Treasure, I'm gonna go back and
watch that first one. Second is not bad, but that
first one is just pure magic. There's a couple scenes
in there, one particular where you can just feel the
Nick Cage lizaniness kind of seep out. And this is
before he started to get into that crazy era.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Okay, this is the origin story of the crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
Ca the Orgin story.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Yeah, it's just a it's a dang good movie.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
I really really like it. Benjamin Gates, the character, Oh,
it's this fantastic quality quality. So there's a big thing
in the second movie that they highlight and you never
get an answer to it. They highlight that answer, or
say they highlight that question again and reiterate it in
the TV show that they did, but they don't ever
give us the answer. And that answer is what is
on page forty seven in the President's book. I got
(01:13:12):
to know what's on this page, and we'll just.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
That's gonna be written in this script. What was written
on that page? I freaking hope.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
So, I mean, it's it's the ultimate cliffhanger.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
It's like, it's like what's in the briefcase, Like it's
that's the equivalent for the It's.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
It's it's yeah, it's up there. It's It's just it's
one of those things. And I mean, I I don't
want to die without knowing what's on page forty seven.
I just I would have an incomplete death. I'd probably
haunt the earth as a spirit and just waiting to
figure out what's on page forty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
God, but this guy the script.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Everyone yes, So I'm very much excited for that. I
hope that they they run through with it, because the
rumors a few years ago was that they were doing
the show and they were doing a third National Treasure,
but then it seemed like it got scrapped. But now
we've come full circle again and we're back to National
Sesasure three possibly, So let's let's see it. Let's see
it happen. Nice, But yeah, you lead us on the
next one, because this is this is pretty exciting.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Yeah, Donkey Kong animated movies, I guess officially officially happened
at this point, which we kind of already knew. And
I think me and Kirklan talked about a Weekly Geek
like two weeks ago. I forget what the context was
of us talking about that. I think it was that
Nintendo would confirm that they're making like two other movies,
and we were talking about which movies are those, and
then we're like, oh, well, Donkey Kong is obviously one
(01:14:32):
of them. So you know, it's kind of like not
necessarily a new surprising thing by any means, but still
very exciting. Obviously, Donke Kung Bonanza just came out, and
it's kind of like a big return to form for
Donkey Kong. It's finally him kind of getting the bananas
he deserves. Kind of. So I think this is really great.
I think it's I really like the Mario movie. I
got to rewatch it, man, I still have not given
(01:14:52):
it a second rewatch. Actually still only seen at the
one time in theaters. But I think, you know, the humor,
the casting of it all like it works works works
perfec quickly for me. Bonanza just gives them a whole
bunch of new material, like they potentially work with I
don't know what they would do for the story, and
obviously they kind of already set that character up in
the Mario world. But there's just so many fun cangs,
so many freakish congs out there to bring in the mix,
(01:15:13):
and you know, a lot of potential for Easter as
a lot of potential for crossover stuff. So yeah, I'm
really excited about this. You know, I'm still pretty wary
about the Zelda Live Action just because, like, I don't know,
we have to wait and see how how I'm you know,
Nintendo Live Action thing looks. But yeah, I think this
is good. Did you know that there was a Donkey
Kong animated show back in the.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
Day, Uh, yes, I believe I watched some of it
at my cousin's house.
Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
He had a hard copy of it, right, So not
not Donke Kong's first time being an animated well, I
guess this is the first time an animated movie, but
he's been in the animated realm before. I don't think
that show is I think it's notoriously horrendous. But uh yeah,
hopefully hopefully you know this game specifically Bananza and like
all the other stuff are the years offers a lot
of good potential there. But I'm super down for this.
(01:15:57):
I will be there day one because I'm an Intendo
boy to love my love, my boy Donkey Kong.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
Mm hmmm, uh yeah, this sound pretty pretty jazz, pretty excited.
I think it's uh let's let's build up this universe.
Let's keep it going, let's have some more fun. Because
the more you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Do in these in these I these movies, then that means.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
There's more stuff that they can bring over into the
games that we really like, and more DLC and different
little crossovers and whatnot. So I think this is a
fantastic idea. And again, I'm not someone that's running off
to uh not running off to Donkey Kong. Like I
didn't pick up b Nanza because I'm not I'm not
like a Day one Donkey Kong kind of guy, but
(01:16:37):
I know that he's a very much beloved character, and
I'm just excited to see where this is gonna segue.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
So yeah, no, definitely yeah mm hmmm. Uh cool. Now
you're a big parts of the Caribbean fan, h am
I are you declaring that or are you asking that?
I'm declaring my question to you. Uh okay, what a
way to phrase that? So I where am I with
(01:17:06):
Pirates to Care? It's this is a series that I
grew up with, but really only like the first two,
maybe the third one I watched a little bit, but
it mostly was the first couple ones, and you know,
I really liked them back in the day and then
kind of just didn't really return them. I don't know
if i've seen four. I definitely did the review for five,
so obviously I think I was mixed. I think I've
just never seen four and I went right into five
(01:17:27):
and all that, and you know, I think five was
pretty negative. I thought it was okay but not great
from what I remember. But man is extremely fuzzy. And
then I actually, like just recently, like in the last
few months, I put on the og Pirates because I
was feeling it after you know, we always do the
meme I'm curious. You know, when I wanted to up
put the movie on, and I'm gonna say, I was
(01:17:48):
like really disappointed in it. I was like, this is
really slow and like extremely boring and not that funny
or good in any way. I was actually like really
disappointing with it. So I don't know, maybe maybe I
need to give another shot. I feel like I was
given to my attention, maybe it was sleepy or something.
I feel like if we do get six, that's finally
time to do the retro. That would make sense, right,
(01:18:08):
that makes we have not done that right. I'm not
forgetting the whole retro.
Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
I haven't done it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
Yeah, so that would be good because I feel like
I really need to brush up on my history a bit.
But yeah, I don't know. I when I rewatched that one,
it did it did not work for me. And you know,
the funniest part about that Taylor for me is like
that I'm curious line is like it's in the middle
of a sentence and it's like it's not highlighted at all.
So I don't know how that became a meme. It's
such it's not like he doesn't say I'm curious, Like,
(01:18:34):
it's not like a big line. I don't know how
this became a thing in our lexicon. I feel like
when I when I saw that scene in the movie,
just like, you know, it just slipped right by. I
was kind of surprised.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
You he says it very fast with the like because yeah,
he says it at the start of a sentence. Yeah,
I don't know. It's one of those things, you know,
twenty four hours stream late at night and we start
just beaking off lines from getting the movie.
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
Yeah, Kirkland, you know, up on sugar and all that. Yeah,
crazy things happen. So anyway, I all have to say
Pirates six rumored original cast, can you remind me who's dead?
Like I thought some people must have died, right.
Speaker 1 (01:19:13):
The only one who's dead right now is Barbosa. Everyone
else is alive.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Okay, so they're all there, but like, I don't know
do they You know, money talks for sure, and I
feel like, especially right now, everything that has that's happened
with Johnny Depp, maybe this would be a good way
to get like some positive getting back in the positive
light potentially, Like I could see his agent pitching that
case to him in terms of him money to do
this movie. I don't know if he's I'm sure they've
all done interviews, whether they would do more movies. I
(01:19:38):
just don't keep up to date with that sort of stuff.
I mean, I'm not super super excited for this, but
I'm actually I'm more happy that they're doing this potentially
instead of like a reboot. I think that's kind of
a the way to go. Just keep it going, you know,
build off of it. Maybe it's kind of messing too
long at this point, but I don't. I don't know
if we ever get like a reboot for Pirates, Like
(01:19:58):
I'm out, I don't, I don't, I don't care. Not
gonna be for me. Kind of like another thing that
we might talk about in a few minutes here, But
I don't know. I am obviously my fandom for this
kind of weighed over the years. So you tell me
as someone who's more in the weeds and watching these
movies more regularly than me, I don't know. Are you
excited for this? Do you want this?
Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
I really want a Pirates six, I really really do
I think after the way the last Pirates movie ended,
I've got Cliffhanger, it really had me just kind of
sold on the idea, and I thought, we're never gonna
get it, never gonna get it. Johnny Depp coming back,
I am. I'm all for it, but I want him
to be more like his older version of Jack Sparrow,
(01:20:41):
not his dead Mantello tails version, because that one was
not not the greatest.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Yeah, you guys talked about in five how he was
almost became like a parody of what the character was.
Speaker 1 (01:20:52):
Yes, that's that's right. So I'm hoping that they they
do justice with with that character. And yeah, I get
will Turner back yet Elizabeth swan back. I'm totally game
for all of that. You know, even though Barbosa's died
in the previous one, I mean he's already died once.
He's like, if you die in here, even Jack Sparrow died,
you die, you can come back. There's ways to bring
(01:21:14):
it back. So right, We'll be just to see how
how that pans out. I just know that I would
really like a Pirate six. And I remember, back before
the rumors swirling around, was like, okay, we're gonna do
a six Pirates movie and then another one. I think
Margot Robbie was.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Kind of I do remember that now that you mentioned it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
Yeah, yeah, that was that was kind of like in
talks for you know, to happen, and I think it's
supposed to be in the same universe. But yeah, I'm
I'm glad that we're basically getting just six and we're
gonna be able to focus on that. I think that
that's that's that's the way to go. So yeah, yeah, yeah,
(01:22:00):
that's all I got on that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
Now you you hinted at this are Harry Potter. Now
I know you love Harry Potter.
Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
Yeah, I like Harry Potter.
Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
Are you a fan of them doing the TV show?
I don't know if I've ever directly asked you this.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
Thank you for asking I Am I a fan of
them doing? You phrase that in an interesting way. I
am not interested in the show. I'm not gonna watch
it mm hmm, but I think it makes sense for
them to do it. So am I a fan of
them doing it? Sure? That's fine, but yeah, I'm I'm
I'm I don't think I need this in my life.
Speaker 1 (01:22:40):
Yeah, my wife would agree with you. Madison is definitely
not big on the uh the Harry Potter remake kind
of a thing. It's not her her jam She thinks
that the movies are fine. Let's keep it as this.
We don't need to do this. I am open to
it because, like Travis says, when you do a TV show,
you can expand and explore a lot more things that
(01:23:02):
you can in just a two hour setting. This also
being HBO Crave gets me really really jazz because they
they they do the time, They put a lot of
money into what their projects are, and I think we're
gonna get some really cool visuals and some really cool things, you.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Know, Harry Potter.
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
Source for Stone Chamber of Secrets. They're really really good,
But you don't get a lot of the special effects
in there, like the spells and whatnot. So I think
that they're gonna go hot and heavy.
Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
Is that true? Here?
Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
I feel like you get a lot of them, a
lot of the scenes them talking to talk, and then
when they do do the spells and stuff, you get
like you get a couple action scenes and whatnot, but
it's them like holding When I think of the magical
spells in that movie, it's like Okay, the Cornish Pixies
are flying and Hermione puts her one up and says
they have a spell, and they all freeze, and you
(01:23:54):
know that's her using magic. But I am someone that
gravitates heavily to the later ones where they're battling or
dueling and you see like the beams shooting out of
their wands and like they're like like the spells and
them actually like flicking their ones, and like you see
those little effects, the special effects of things moving as
like a spell hits something or whatnot. Like even in
(01:24:15):
like that definitely Hell's Part two when one of like
Malfoy's friends is like shaking his wand and like this
fire snake is like pouring out of the tip of
his wand and he can't control it. Even when we're
like Order the Phoenix, when Dumbledore is facing off against
Valdemoret and he Dumbledore is controlling that water war with
Voldemort in there, and like Baltimore like shoots down the
(01:24:35):
glass at him. Like there's those kind of effects I like,
and you don't get that same level in those earlier films,
And I think it's just because of the time and
the technology that being said, it does not take away
from the magic and the excitement I have for those
original films. This though, I feel like we're going to
get that kind of like special effects on the spells
(01:24:56):
and everything. I think it's going to be a lot
of fun, and I like that they're going to be
doing as The details here is that seasons one and
two are going to consist each of six episodes, and
they're going to be filmed back to back. I think
that's a really really good idea because you don't want
you know, time is your enemy here. You're working with kids,
and we've all seen how it works with Stranger Things.
Those kids they age fast. So two seasons back to back,
(01:25:21):
that gives you a lot of time. If this starts
in twenty twenty seven, then that means we have twenty
twenty eight. I'm assuming season two drops, and that means okay,
they they can They've set themselves up for so many
years down the road that they can just do the
next two seasons back to back and kind of keep
that train going. And I think you'll have a pretty
(01:25:41):
good growth grace period between the seasons for your kid
actors and whatnot. So I think that I think that's
on the right track.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
Yeah, yeah, in six episodes seems like a good number
to me because obviously the movies, you know, cover the
story adequately. Obviously there's things they have to cut from
the books, but I don't think those books are so
beefy that they require too many episodes per season. I
think six sies like seems like a decent amount, and
I think that could add to the ability to for
(01:26:14):
this to be like a nice rewatchable show for people
in the same way that people are nostalgic for Harry
Potter currently and they want to do a rewatch of
all the movies, right, and that's like, it doesn't take
you too long to do that, and they should probably
help with the show if as well, if it's six
episodes throughout the whole thing, and maybe they change it,
like obviously they took Deathly Hollows and sput that into
two movies, so I don't know if they would take that.
(01:26:34):
See well, I don't even know. Is season one just
the Philosopher's Stone. That's why I guess that's my assumption.
I'm assuming that they're doing a season per book.
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
But I could be honest, that's what I understand.
Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
Yeah, but yeah, so who knows if they do that
as well. For Deathly Hollows. I mean a lot of
people critique that part one because it's like a little
bit boring because it doesn't have like some of the
you know, final act threeiness of it in there. But yeah,
I obviously I think there's a lot of pinchil on.
Some books obviously are gonna benefit from this this, I
do know, more length than other ones will. I don't know.
(01:27:07):
I think that when I because my order was that
I watched the movies a lot as a kid, when
I was a little bit older, like early adulth is
when I read some of the books, and there's stuff
of course that didn't occur in the movies. But like,
I don't know if you really needed, I think the
movies are just fine just the way they are for
the most part. So yeah, but obviously the series will
allow to really flush at some of those things. But
(01:27:28):
I'm curious see if they add other things in there,
other things that didn't exist before. Change some things, hopefully
add a little bit more. I don't know, quality content
for some of like certain characters that were kind of
underserved in those movies or also potentially in the books,
you know, and obviously some characters maybe they don't even
make it into the movie. So a lot of potential
here for sure. Yeah, I think I think this is
(01:27:51):
a good way to do it. Film two seasons back
to back and you're good to go. Might help with
the age age element, as you mentioned.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
Yeah, absolutely. Now we've gotten a lot of casting announcements
and whatnot, But the one that's kind of been close
to the chest that people have been talking about is Valdemort,
and uh, Voltivort has already been cast. Now I'm pretty
sure I didn't miss it, right, Like we don't actually
see like who was casted as Baldemort. I'm sure I believe.
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
Yeah, I believe there's a speculation phase is where we're
at with that one.
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
Okay, Uh, so far, I've been really really happy with
the castings. Uh, Nick Frost is Hagrid. They dropped that photo.
I thought, man, this, yeah, this is this is a
Hagrid for sure. I'm I'm loving this.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
So yeah, I looked at I was looking at an
article of all the people that were caster as were
remind myself, and yeah, there was that picture of him
as Hagrid. But then other people like don't have a
picture of them as the characters, Like, did they just
do that for him and like some people? Or is
that like an AI image that I saw of someone
who just like make Nick Frost look like Hagrid or something?
Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
Ah? Well, no, they there was a photo of him
that he is in the Hagrid stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
So they didn't do it for everyone, just some people,
I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Obviously the Harry Potter kid, it looks it looks like that. Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah,
that makes sense. I don't Yeah, the one I saw
apparently like Killian Murphy is a rumor, but I don't
know if that's just fan cast stuff or if that's
actually like a rumor rumor or just just like a
fan cast that people are trying to will into existence.
(01:29:21):
I mean, that one would be good, right. I think
he's British, he's got a Voltimore like face. He could
be a Tom Riddle vibe as well. He's got the
two sides of it. Would you want that one? Obviously
he's kind of top of his game right now. I
would definitely be be all for that.
Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
That would that would be pretty sweet? Actually, yeah, yeah,
And I mean I haven't seen him in anything else recently.
I thought he was going to be in twenty eight
years later, but he is not. He's in the sequel.
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
Bone Temple, of course. Bone Temple.
Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
Yeah, So I mean after that's concluded, I mean, what
else is going to be up to?
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
I guess he's in Bone Temple and twenty eight years
later had Ray Fines in it, the original Voldemort, so
it could be that's righting of the Voldemort.
Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
The meaning of the Baltimore's Yeah, passing on the lanage, Yeah, yeah, cool.
Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
I got nothing else on on that though. Well there
was the another question from the great Maddy Says, of course,
who said, who would you guys passes Baltimore in the
HP series.
Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
Al dublayn.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Al doubla, did you did you not see that one?
Or you not? Did you No?
Speaker 1 (01:30:27):
I definitely saw it, but I did not register. So
you go first, and I'll think I'll.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
Throw, I'll throw. I have three that I can chuck
at you here? What about? And I picked only British
actors because I think that's what most of the casting is.
And they're sticking at what do you think about Benedict Cumberbatch.
Speaker 1 (01:30:43):
Oh, he's got the face.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
He's got a bit of a Voldemort Tean face, right,
which is yes, maybe not sound maybe it doesn't sound
like a compliment, but I mean it as a compliment.
Speaker 1 (01:30:55):
I think, I, you know, it would be good, but
I think out of a hard time just seeing doctor Strange,
to be honest.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
Interesting, especially if he has a wand and he's shooting
magic out and that feels a bit too close to
uh yeah, to Strange. Okay, well here's another Marvel one.
Let's see if you can differentiate. What about what about
Paul Bettany a vision face, that's a good one.
Speaker 1 (01:31:15):
I would take.
Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
Paul Bettany also has a a Voldemarian face. He played
a villain in a Star Wars movie, right Dratch solo, Yeah, yes,
or Rat not Rachel Dratch but another Dratch. No Boss
(01:31:44):
Voss versus from Expedition and Voss that's track and Boss. Yeah.
Uh what about so him doing magic wouldn't bother you?
Even Vision shoots beams out of his heads and they
wouldn't bother me.
Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
Okay, he's got the voice in the face for it
for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
Okay, Okay, I because I like those I like those two.
I like Benny or Paul. Now here's the third one.
He recently played a big villain, a villain who as
as bald as Voldemort. What about Nicholas Holt. I think
he might be too baby faced, but he displayed Lex Luthor,
and you've seen that movie, and I feel like that
(01:32:28):
would be a good comparison point. Do you feel like
his Luther performance says anything about a Valtimore potential?
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
You know, could he do the do the role? Absolutely
he could and I would be there and support him.
But I think he does look too baby faced for it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:43):
In like even Lex Luthor, he wasn't He was not
able to differentiate the baby face ness. He was mostly
just angry all the time, so I didn't really see
a baby Baltimore's quite angry. Ah, he's angry, but he's.
Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
Political, politically angry, which I feel like you need to
look older for that kind of a thing.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
Okay, Okay, Yeah, that one was my third and lowest pick.
But I like my Paul Bettany and Cumberbatch picks.
Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
But what about uh Tom Hiddleston.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Tom Hitdleson interesting, Huh, he's played a villain before. Now
I think I would not be able to unsee the
Loki because he's shooting green beams and he's holding wands
and stuff. I think he could be I could see
him in this realm for sure. I'm trying to picture
another character like h he could be like a looping
(01:33:40):
or something. Maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:33:41):
I don't think that'd be a good pick. I would
like that, actually, yes, yeah, okay, what about the where
is he Jude Law?
Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
And you're gonna say Jude Judlaw is fucking Dumbledore in
uh strange? Oh right, yeah, we can't do that.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
Okay, Okay, Simon Peg, you know Nick Frost is in there.
You gotta get Simon Peg in there.
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
Baltimore though, Oh my god, Okay, let me google Simon
Peg bald bald. Let me see what that looks like.
I mean, he has pretty light hair. I don't I'm
not actually getting a nice bald pick. I don't know.
He's too goofy for me, I think now. I'm sure
(01:34:21):
he does some great serious roles in his day, but
to me, he's a bit too uh, he's a bit
too silly. But and Nick Frost because that fits more
for Hagrid, but I can't. Is there a scene of
Valdemort and Hagrid together because Baldemort and dynamic duo. But
(01:34:41):
is there a scene would that if that casting did happen,
would we ever get a scene between those? Tweet only?
Speaker 1 (01:34:49):
The only time you get a scene of them together
is definitely hoo was Part two when they're in the
Forbidden Forrest to the Death Eaters and Valdemort standing there
and Hagrid's there and Harry walks out and Hagrid's like, Harry, no,
you shouldn't be here, and then Valdemart's like and then
kills Harry.
Speaker 2 (01:35:08):
Yeah like that. Okay, uh okay, So we'd have to
wait eight years, but we'd eventually get the scene. That's right,
mean two old buddies exactly. That'd be great. Yeah, yeah, cool,
all right, HP seven two years away? Son, there you go?
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
All right, Well, is there anything else you want to
cap off before we close this chapter?
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
I think the chapter is done and we can close
the book on this episode of w G. All right, boys,
we have a boy is closing this chapter. All those
cards off the off the boat Taylor, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
Throw them, she gets I'm gonna have to download that.
I'm gonna have to get a clip of that and
put it in here.
Speaker 2 (01:35:54):
All right. Well yeah, ladies and gentlemen, we'll be back.
