me here. Oh it's great tohave you. How did you You're an
interior designer and checking out your website. You're great at what you do,

(04:28):
So how did you come to combiningfunk Chua into the process. Well,
as a kid, I was doingfunctui without even knowing it. I would
spend a lot of time in myroom rearranging the room so it felt good,
decluttering, organizing, trying to thinkwhat would make it feel better.
And after I graduated interior design school, I got started in the field.

(04:55):
But a few years later, someonedragged me to an event where they were
talking fun Shway. I had noidea what it was, and this was
like the early nineties, I believe, or maybe mid nineties by then,
and I was fascinated and I immediatelyknew that this was my path. But
I thought I would start learning itfor my own self, like to help

(05:21):
myself, and so I started totake classes. But I started to teach
and realized pretty soon that I reallyneeded to learn more and more I was
teaching, and so I actually founda certification program and went through a two
year program to become certified, butimmediately brought it into my business. Yes,

(05:45):
it did help my own life, but it just made so much sense
to combine fun Shway and interior designit just was unnatural for me. Yes,
And it's very interesting how you canjust move one small thing and the
whole energy of the room changes. Now, you said that they are principles
of fun shway, what are they? The principles are functuey is everything is

(06:10):
energy. This is the first one. Everything is energy and everything is connected.
You probably had that experience where youthink of somebody you haven't seen in
a very long time, and withinan hour they call you or you run
into them. That is an energyconnection. Number two, your space is
reflection of your life. So ifyour external environment is not in sync with

(06:32):
who you are, unbalanced or cluttered, it can cause havoc in your life.
Therefore, you can change your spaceto change your life. The third
one, there's five of them. The third one is space should be organized
as it is in nature, meaningit should flow. And the fourth one
is really big clutter causes confusion.Their clutter causes a lot more than confusion.

(06:58):
But we can talk about that littlebit. But have you ever felt
it was chaotic in your office andrealized internally you felt chaotic too, That's
what clutter can you know? Declutteringcan help you to get more clear and
then, but not least, yourdesires allows your intentions to come forth,

(07:19):
so you know, think about whatit's really important to get clear about what
it is you want. So youneed to put some time into get getting
clarity and then you can put intentioninto your house to create the life of
your dreams. Okay, great, thanks for sharing that with us. Now
you stuck on one point that reallycatches my attention, and that's the clutter.

(07:43):
Because whenever I go to someone's hometo do a home blessing clearing or
business blessing or clearing, the firstthing that I look for and unfortunately most
of the time see as a lotof clutter. So talk to us about
the about clutter, the energy ofclutter, and how it affects us.
Well, maybe I can first startby telling you, like like the what

(08:05):
clutter is, So the things thatyou do not use or love, Like
things that don't have a happy, joyous meaning attached to them or you're not
using them, things that are untidyor disorganized, and maybe too many things
and too small of a space sothat there's no breathing you room. You

(08:26):
can feel constricted in your life andyour body. I've seen where people have
so much clutter this is too extreme, but their body starts constricting, they
start having a lot of health problems. And then also clutter can be anything
unfinished, whether it's physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. So that

(08:48):
can be like a project, aknitting project you have in the closet that
you started five years ago and neverfinished. Every time you open the closet,
there's that just little twinge that younever finished it. It makes you
kind of feel bad. So youneed to decide do I finish it or
just let it go, because lettingyou go also affirms that you will have

(09:09):
the money in the future if youdecide to pick it up again to buying
new needles and yarn and everything. But it's okay if it's not as important
in your life right now. Sothose are what clutter does. So how
clutter can actually affect you when youhave too many things, have things that

(09:31):
you don't love. It can keepyou tired and lethargic, or keep you
in the past. So I alwaysask people, I said, does your
home reflect who you are, whoyou want to become? Or are you
living in the past. So Iwant people to really think about that,
or if they have too many thingsfrom their past that don't have desirable feeling

(09:56):
to them. Maybe it's time tolet them go. There's so many things
clutter does. It can congest you, affect your body weight, confuse you,
like we talked about, make youfeel anxiety and nervous. You know,
it even affects the way other peopletreat you because they walk into your

(10:16):
home and they see that you're notrespecting your home in that way, then
they don't care. They'll just throwthings here and there, and you know,
things like that. You know, there's health and fire hazards. I
mean, I can go on andon, but these are you know,
to have to you know, Ilive very decluttered. I mean not that

(10:37):
areas don't get cluttered at times, but I have systems and prop in place
where I declutter an area, Likeevery weekend, I'll take a small area
that I feel that's building up,and I'll declutter it. I'll let go
of the things that I'm not using, that I don't love and either give
them away, throw them away ifthat's necessary, you know, give them

(10:58):
somebody who might really like it,or or donate it to charity. So
okay, look, I want totalk about external clutter. For a moment,
because a lot of there's a bigblooming industry out there and it's called
storage, and people don't have itin their home, but they have it
in you know, an eight byten, twelve by twelve, whatever it

(11:20):
is. Is that extended clutter.Because you're not ut you'll go ahead,
I'm sorry, you know what? What do? How can we just like
let it go right? That extendedclutter? First of all, in function,

(11:41):
there are no hiding places, notin your closets or your basement or
attic or extended storage spaces. It'sif you own it and it's in your
you know, property. Even thosestorage spaces are your property. They take
up time, energy, and spacewithin you, even if you're consciously not

(12:01):
aware of it. So you know, it would save a lot of money
too, if you were able tolet some of these items go, items
go that you don't need. SometimesI think it's okay to have a storage
space for a short amount of timebecause you might be in a move or
checking out a situation where you haveto put some things in storage for a

(12:24):
while. But it's only should be, you know, for for my purpose,
I think temporary situations, but notforever, because that they tend on
staying there forever in those places I'vefound. So if it's a temporary use,
then that's that's that works. Okay, what about the ever dreaded?

(12:50):
But everybody has one junk drawer, you know, I talk about the junk
drawer. You know, it's okayfor a while, ale because you know,
like I think of my junk doorand my kitchen, and then every
now and then, maybe once ayear, I'll clean it out and I'll
put, you know, the thingsthat I use and love back into it

(13:11):
very organized so when you open thedoor you can actually see what's there that
it just feels so good, justlike a breath of fresh spring air kind
of when you when you do that, it feels so good. And I
always say, why can't you havethat for your whole home? To feel
that way? But you know,do we really need those hundred rubber bands

(13:37):
and you know, fifty keys thatwe don't even know where they go to?
You know that kind of stuff. It's okay to let them go,
Yes, And then you find outit's through the wrong keylway to the back
door at up you Yeah, ifyou kind of go through them and feel

(13:58):
them out, and you know, put the is you think that you need
in a little baggy or something andlet go the rest because a lot of
them usually don't even they're not evenapplicable at you know anymore. Is what
I found now. It seems thatyour philosophy is that you feel a room
should look good, but it shouldalso feel good. What are some ways

(14:22):
that we can allow and achieve ourrooms to feel good to us? Well,
one of the things I like tothink about is to balance the elements
in the space. To think aboutlike if you walk into an all white
room, maybe it looks pretty andthere's different textures of white, and there's

(14:43):
just different tones of white, butit has too much. It would have
too much what we call metal energy, and metal energy is the energy of
logic and precision, and to livein that energy that doesn't balance is not
bounced. But the other energies wouldnot feel good. So there's other energies

(15:05):
such as water, wood, fire, and earth, and you know,
they each have a different energy tothem. So I told you what metal
is. But if you go towater, if you have water energy,
which is depicted by maybe an imageof water, a water fountain, the
color black, they all have colorsassociated with them, and you could find

(15:28):
this in chapter four of my book, Change Your Space to Change Your Life.
But water energy is philosophical energy, the artist energy. Wood energy is
the entrepreneurial energy, the energy thatgets you up and going. Fire energy
is enthusiasm and passion. And earthenergy is more like like, how can

(15:54):
I say it? First of allthe items for that would be pottery.
Earth energy is grounded energy to sayso. And then you can have an
over abundance of one energy. Forexample, if you had that over abundance
of metal energy, like I said, if in an all white room,

(16:15):
it could cause you to feel rigid, fussy, even obsessive with cleanliness.
So each one of these have differentenergies and when you balance them in a
room, then the room that Thisis one way to make a room feel
good if you need sometimes maybe you'regoing through depression, you need one element

(16:37):
a little bit more, so maybeyou add a little more fire to your
room. So you've got to kindof learn these and these different energies and
elements and play with them to getthe adjust the energy so it feels right
for each person. Okay, explainto us what the function way blah is
a long time ago. Before webought it, house reminted a house and

(17:02):
the person who owned the house wasa black hat funk shway expert and it
was amazing the energy you know inthat house. And they actually gave us
a blag wah and they said thisis going to bring you luck. They
told us what to do certain things. So explain to us the function Way
Book and it's important. So itis a tool. You can use a

(17:26):
map that you lay over the blueprintof your splate, your floor plan or
space space, and it's divided intonine equal areas and each area corresponds to
a specific area of your life, for example health or prosperity, or love
and relationship or a career. Soyou find the area that you want to

(17:51):
work in and you set up yourhome by placing specific objects in these areas
where you want change, where youwant change and to make things happen.
So it's a little complicated. Ido want to say that it is in
chapter eight of my book very becauseit gets more you have, like I've
studied it for you know, yearsbefore, and we had to practice on

(18:15):
floor plans and functionake school. Wehad to practice as a group laying them
out because they get sometimes get alittle complicated because not every home is perfectly
square, so it can cause likeextensions in your home, which are blessing.
So if you find out you laythe bogwaine you have an extension,
it means you have a blessing inthat area, or you can have missing

(18:38):
pieces which can be you know,a little bit more challenging in that area.
The good news is there's areas toadjust. I mean, there's ways
to adjust that space to make theenergy correct the energy for that space if
there's a missing piece. So there'salways ways to do that. But if

(19:00):
you're looking for a new home andyou have the knowledge of func shwei,
you don't want to look for ahome that needs a million adjustments. You
know it's best. You know, nothing's perfect, so you're going to probably
have to make some adjustments, butyou know it's it's the way it is
with the bogwa, and the bogoalways starts in the black sect type of

(19:26):
func shway that I do. Itstarts with the where the what's it called
the front door is the bottom ofthe bogua where lay it out. But
you can find you can google bogua. You can look on my website and
find a bogua, so you couldsee exactly the different areas that it is

(19:47):
and how important is it to stickto the colors within each bogua. If
you're looking to change the energy inthat area, you know there. What
I can say is there are manydifferent ways to change it. You don't
alway have to change it by color. And it doesn't mean that you have
to paint a whole room, forexample, purple, So the wealth area
is purple, but you could puta purple statue or a purple piece of

(20:14):
art in that room. It doesn'thave to mean that the whole room is
painted that way. You don't evenhave to do it with color. Another
way to adjust the prosperity area wouldbe with wood element. So they all
have an element attached to them.So wood element is about growth entrepreneurial type

(20:34):
energy, so you could put aplant in their plant is wood energy,
so a plant is a way toadjust that energy. Also, water feeds
wood, so you could put awater element in there to help that area.
So, like I said, eacharea, the bagua not just has

(20:56):
a color, but has an elementto it. And if you learn how
to work with the elements. Youcan learn different ways to adjust adjust the
area besides just color. Okay,do you talk about using the three secrets
of reinforcement when making an adjustment? What are they? So? The first

(21:22):
one when you make an adjustment,so say you do are having financial problems.
Since we were talking about the prosperityarea, and you're going to adjust
that prosperity area. You find outwhere it is in your home and you
decide to add a water fountain. So the first thing you do is called
secretive body. So that's about placingthe water fountain where it's going to go.

(21:44):
And when you do this, youwant to you want to be in
a good place. You want tofeel good. You don't want to be
angry or tired, so you justwant to feel good to keep the energy
up. And then what's called thesecret of mind. This is the of
your intention. Imagine, like, what is your intention to increase your wealth?

(22:04):
Maybe you want to double your wealththis year. You know, whatever
it is, you need to thinkit, but you not only think it,
but feel it as if it's alreadyhappened. That's really important when you're
trying to manifest is to get intothe feeling of what it feels like to
already have that. And then whatwe say is the secret of speech,

(22:26):
which is we use a Sanskrit phrasewhich is omni pod me whom. Maybe
some of you have heard that, but it all it means is the effect
of the opening of a lotus blossomto reveal its true essence, which is
the soul. And so we saythat nine times. And why nine times

(22:49):
because functually goes back, you know, four thousand years to China, and
in China, nine is an auspiciousnumber. So we respect that, and
we say it nine times because it'slike doing a little ceremony and ritual.
And then so you can just letit go and not worry about it.

(23:11):
You've done what you needed to do, and then you can just see what
happens and be observant and listen toyour intuition too as part of it.
Okay, well, I think intuitionis at the forefront, whether we realize
it or not. We're tapping inwhenever we decorate our home with the knowledge
of funk shway or not. Now, a while ago, you got a

(23:32):
divorce and you picked yourself up,and you got yourself going. How did
you use your funk Sway interior designto create your ideal life? It just
wasn't changing the room. You changedyour life. So what did you do
my life? Well, first ofall, I didn't stay. We sold
the home we lived in. Wehave four kids. This was already fourteen

(23:53):
years ago. But I, youknow, I've managed to keep my business
all these years. Like I didn'tknow that would happen. I've been in
business now thirty one years as MetroInteriors. But congrats, thank you.
It was scary because you know,I relied on my ex husband. I
didn't think that he would be ableto continue to support me in any way,

(24:17):
which I found out, which wastrue. And I first of all,
I did not take hardly anything withme. You know. I took
a few of my favorite serving piecesand a few of my favorite pieces of
art, and that's it. Igave him all the furniture, everything in
the kitchen, pretty much. AndI didn't want to take that energy with

(24:38):
me into my new life. SoI was just going to start over and
I bought, you know, Istarted with a few things at a time.
I actually moved into my apartment withno furniture except a bed that I
bought from Ikia, which I washoping would be temporary, which it was,
and I made I thought that Ihad enough money to buy something,

(25:00):
and I thought, well, I'llbuy a couple pieces of art that really
inspire me. And that was,you know, what inspires me. So
I bought one that felt like wealth, bringing in wealth, and the apartment
that I did pick had an extensionand wealth. I guess we're I mean,
there's so many other areas of lifeto focus on, but this is
one that I needed. You know, when you go through a divorce,

(25:23):
you it's concerning with wealth and supportand how is all this gonna work?
And I found I did get anapartment that had an extension and wealth.
But I took this piece of art. I found it was big blooming contemporary
flowers that had purple in it becausethe color is purple. But more than
anything, the picture was had somuch passion in it and it had some

(25:45):
big blooming red flowers and they werejust flowing. It looked like lots of
opportunities coming to me. That's whatit felt to me. And I took
that piece and I placed it inthe wealth area and did my three CQ.
It's reinforcement. And within one year, I was first of all,
totally out of debt, which afterdivorce, I had debt and I don't

(26:07):
like debt, and it was quitea bit. But I was totally out
of debt and I had all thefurniture I needed for my new place.
So like, was that just coincidenceor was it because of my intention and
focus on what I wanted to happen? And good things happened. I did

(26:27):
get a lot of opportunities that year, and it was an amazing year for
me after coming through a very verydifficult time. Okay, now you've mentioned
the word extension a few times.Extension of twelve. There could be extensions
in other areas. Explain to usthe concept of the extension? Does it?

(26:48):
How do we identify it? Right? So the extension extends past the
Bogwa map, So you learn howto play out the Bogwa map in nine
equal spaces. And there might beareas of your home that extend past an
area. So this was an areathat extended past It went further out than

(27:11):
my wealth area, the Bagua whenit was late, when the Bogua was
laid over, it extended out pastthat in the wealth area. Oh okay,
that makes sense. And then forexample, I also have like the
missing pieces where there's a piece notin the bagua, like somebody could be
missing their whole love and relationship areaof their bagua. And I recently did

(27:37):
a consultation for a man that said, I've lived in this apartment building for
sixteen years and I've never had arelationship since i've lived here. Oh wow,
love relationship. That's a long time. And we looked at as bagua
and it was totally missing relationships. So I said, if there's no way

(28:00):
to move at this time, here'swhat we can do. And we're We
added mirrors to extend the area.We added a piece of a couple of
artwork that had a couple and thatfound loving to him and what he wanted.
And so I haven't found out what'shappened and if he's made all the
changes yet, but that was justrecently help them play out. It's amazing.

(28:25):
Yeah, Well, I know along time ago, moved into a
place and the wealth area of theprosperity area was missing, and at first
I didn't even pay attention to itbecause I liked the place and all of
a sudden, I noticed that, you know, business had slowed down to
a crawl. So I said,well, this isn't acceptable because I needed

(28:45):
to make money. So I wentto the hardware store and I got some
bricks in a plastic tub and aspout thing, and I created a fountain
and I put it out there andwithin this is no exaggeration, within ten
minutes of activating that fountain, thephone ring for business and it kept going

(29:07):
just ten momenting you do something withthat intention is very powerful, and that's
exactly what happened. And I've hadthose experiences as well. Just it's amazing.
It's all because everything is energy andeverything is connected. So we're connected
to the energy we're putting out there, and it's amazing how some small thing

(29:30):
can change it. Now you talkabout bio was it biopic biophilic design?
Biophilic design? What is that?So that is bringing nature into the space.
So biophilia is the love of lifeor living systems. That was developed
by Edward Wilson in the nineteen eightiesand he came up with the concept that

(29:56):
if you're connected to nature, itwill help you feel good. And so
they did do research on it.And for example, just adding plants.
The power of plants will reduce stress, support focus, and boost the community.
And you know, there's so manythings. It's not just about adding

(30:18):
plants. There's other types. It'show you bring in the light from outside,
natural light, maybe adding herbs ornature sounds to the space. All
these things will really help to reducestress and even lower different types of you
know, blood pressure and things ofthat nature. Now, when we look

(30:41):
at the Boguah, we're looking tochange our lives and we have health issues.
What section of the baguah would bemost beneficial for us to enhance to
increase our good health. That wouldbe the center of the home. So
the center when you lay out thenine squares equal squares of the Bogwa,

(31:04):
it's the one in the middle. And I would say it's definitely the most
important because without that, you know, having good health, obviously the other
areas aren't going to do as well. Okay, so what if that's the
bathroom. If that's if that's thebathroom, then you want to make sure

(31:25):
that all the the you know, toilet lids are clothes. When you're not
using the drains, you close thedrains because those are energy drainers, so
you want to do things to pullthe energy up. You can also put
a plant, even if it's asilk plant, on the back of the
toilet. That's about pulling the energyup another and you want to make it

(31:51):
beautiful. You want to feel good, and you can use earth tones in
there too. That's the color ofthat bog area of the bogwa. So
you want to make it feel justbeautiful and keep you know, the energy
from flowing down the drains, youknow, keep them up. There's even
a thing that we do where wetake unpopped popcorn put it in a little

(32:15):
dish. You know. You canfind a decorative dish with a cover on
it and put it at the backof your toilet with the intention that that's
popping up good energy. So there'smany ways to work with intention that way.
Okay, So when you say putit at the back of your toilet,

(32:35):
are you talking about on top,on the lid or down behind the
toilet? On top of the back, not the lid of the toilet,
what do you call it, butthat top where the water is the tanged
yes, yes, on top ofthe tank, yes, Or you could
put a picture of a beautiful plantgrowing. You can be that too above
the toilet. Okay, yeah, that's what I did. You've said it

(33:01):
many times today, and I wantto talk about it a little bit more.
And that is getting in touch withyour intentions in your goals. And
you even say that you can makea vision board that would be very helpful
to one, So tell us alittle bit more about that. So the
intention is knowing in your heart, like a deeper feeling of what you want

(33:24):
to achieve in your life, whatyou want to be, or what you
want to do, or even whatyou want to have. And when you
make a vision board, you haveto think clearly because you have to cut
up photos and images to put onthis vision board of the things that you
want to happen. And a visionboard is a wonderful tool to create what

(33:45):
you want to have happen in yourlife. And I've had so many great
experience experiences with working with them andthings happening. So you know, it's
also about when you do this, you also have to always listen to your
intuition because you're always getting inspired actionto actions to take, but you have

(34:10):
to really be tuned in to hearwhat you're supposed to be doing, and
you and to let go to makethis vision board and let go. Actually,
I'm going to be doing a visionboard class. It's reminding me early
in the year with Kelly White. If any of you know Kelly White,
she has a show with James vonPrague. We're going to do a vision
board class online together early in theyear. So I'm very excited about helping

(34:35):
people to do that. I've taughtthem. I've taught vision board class a
lot in the past in person, but now I'm going to switch over.
Everyone wants to be online now,so yeah, we're going to go.
Well, you know, folks,I have to tell you vision boards to
work. Back in the early twothousands, I taught a vision board class

(34:55):
its Sacramento, and I asked, you know, people to bring items,
you know, to place on theirboard. Of course they did not,
so I'm under I'm there and I'mtrying to help them, you know,
create their board while I'm creating mine. So the only thing that I could
put on my vision board was andI drew mine because I was making everybody

(35:19):
else draw their pictures since they didn'tbring any. Was I drew a picture
of a TV and I drew apicture of me a woman on the TV.
And I just let it go becauseI was teaching the class and I
was helping them get their information. So this was in February, and in
April I was contacted by an inTV show to be on their show.

(35:39):
They didn't want me to audition oranything. I was picked. They wanted
me to be on the show.I went on the show and it's been
great ever since. So you neverknow how about one little aspect of putting
something on a vision board will helpyou exactly. And I've had the same
experiences. I am always so inawe when they happen, and sometimes they

(36:01):
don't happen or most of the timethe way that you think. So you've
got to be open to letting theuniverse do its job and take you on
this journey because the end result willbe exactly what you asked for. Yes,
Now, when we go to yourwebsite metrointeriors dot com, what are
we going to find there? Ohmy gosh, You're going to find a

(36:23):
lot of before and after pictures. In the portfolio section, You're going to
find some things that talk about funkShuai. You'll find the book page.
What's really fun about the book page. If you go to that, you
can order the book from there. But you can also like in the book,
I couldn't put colored photographs. There'ssome graphs and things of that nature,

(36:46):
but the publisher didn't have me putcolored photographs. So you could go
where I wanted to show a beforeand after of a space I talked about,
say it was in chapter two.You can go to chapter two and
then it'll you those pictures, soyou will find that there as well.
Also, I want to say thatwhen you go to the front page,

(37:07):
you'll and on the bottom of everyother page I think is an area to
sign up for my newsletter that Isend out every other month. I do
a lot of great stories, beforeand after pictures in these newsletters, more
current things and design related articles iswhere as well as the FUNCTIONUI related articles.

(37:30):
Also when I do classes, soI send that out as well.
So if you want to find outabout the vision Board class coming up,
you can sign up for the newsletterand you'll you'll know when that would be
coming up. So and I don'tover send things out either. It's every
other month and then if I'm doinga class in between, I may send
something out like that. Okay,Well, it's great that you don't over

(37:51):
send, because after a while, for me, over sin means block right,
right, No, I just gettoo much, you know, exactly
exactly, And so I just doone really nice one every other month,
and if there's an event going onor class, I'll let people know about
that. Okay, our time isalmost up. I really appreciate your time

(38:13):
today and your information. Could yougive us a pearl of wisdom to leap
with the audience today? Well,I think what I'd like to say is
very simple. You know, tomake a change, you must be willing
to commit, and then you mustbe willing to take inspired action. So

(38:34):
that's my Some some people you know, don't want to commit to it,
and you have to commit first andthen take action. But it needs to
be inspired action. Yeah, somethingthat you feel is right, you know,
listen to your gut. Should Igo in this direction or this?
It will tell you. Okay,Well, thank you so much. A

(38:57):
little slow on that because I waswriting that down. Appreciate your time today,
Juliane. Again, folks, we'vebeen speaking with Julianne Siegel her book,
Change your Space to Change your Life. Elevate your energy with funk Sway,
one room at a time. Julie, thank you so much. Thank
you Monique. I really appreciate thisas well. Okay, and I know

(39:20):
the audience will appreciate it and folksput it in action. You'll notice change,
especially during these very interlistic times. What do you have to lose?
Worst case scenario, Just move thefurniture around in your house. You will
notice the difference in the energy.Yeah, and everyone, please remember that
the most important choice that you canmake is what you choose to make important.
Consider making the mesticul choice of changingyour space to change your life.

(39:45):
Upon the blessings, light and loveto all. I'm not mad.
