(00:00):
They everyone to welcome to this edition, the Friday edition of Just parlays on
Jim Wiams alongside me on each otherside. There we go. You know
that way is Chris Kane Chris, good night last night, my friend.
Yeah, I mean it was anothergood night. They see Washington's nay to
play hockey after you know, struggleagainst Columbus the bruinbarten See Louise and he
(00:25):
was a unch of Montreal being infive and two. Uh, Pittsburgh one,
we said, or Boston is gonnahave a tough time with Carolina after
losing Marshawn and burn Run. Theydidn't even show up. They got beat
six to oh right, So roughnight for them, good night for us.
(00:48):
Okay, pretty Leaving used to say, you know, when it's too
cold for them, just right forus. That's the way it went from
Boston. But you know, alot of tree history in the NBA hand
going up. I don't know whichone did you think was the best?
There wasn't. I'm not sure howsome of them work, to be honest,
(01:08):
I I was curious that there wasa lot of movement, but not
specifically anything was gonna make one team, you know, leap up to a
level beyond what they were at thatpoint the trainer. That didn't make sense
to me. If Dallas giving upby Christoph Sporzingis to get Spencer, did
(01:30):
Winnie and Davis Burtons from Washington?I mean, I don't get it.
Didn't win. He's shooting thirty eightpercent, Burtis has been horrible, can't
get off the bench half the time, and you're training away a seven foot
three guys that can shoot from theoutside when he's healthy, is a double
double threat almost every night for twoguys that are two guys named mow.
(01:55):
Yeah, yeah, there are bridgeplayers. I mean, didn't win.
He can distribute, me can scoreor something that, But is it really?
Is that how you want to surroundthe look a Dodgicks with a bunch
of you know, role players?Yeah? Basically, I don't definite get
a big name last that he wentfor fifty one and the winding over the
Clippers. But can he sustain thatover a long period? I don't think
(02:16):
so. I mean, you know, Tim Hardaway's out for them with that
broken foot, so you're gonna relyon Didn't Winnie and Burtance to contribute if
they can what does that do forDallas. I don't think it does much
for Dallas, to be honest, and I you know, I just it's
(02:36):
one of those head scratchers because youdon't usually how often do you get a
big who can shoot from the printer, right, I mean it's I don't
know, I get nothing. Ican't tell you that. On the flip
side, you have the Lakers whoget nothing. Right, there was talk
they were going to try to trainand rustle with John Wall. They didn't
(03:00):
want to give up their twenty twentyseven first round picks. It's apparently that's
the next one they can trade it. Right, So now they're still stuck
with the same lousy team that theyhave. They had going into the trade,
badline, a team that lost toMilwaukee and then they lost to Portland.
I mean, they did nothing intheir neck. You know, they're
(03:22):
gonna have to score the bio marketand hope they can get somebody. But
who wants to go there right now? I don't know that. I don't
people are lining up in the queueto get there. So again, I'm
you're right, the Lakers not doinganything after I pretty much for two days
said that I was looking through theLakers to pull the Trader run some deal.
(03:43):
You were skeptical. I'll be honest, It's true you were skeptically because
you were talking about the fact thatyou know they were maxed out from the
cap standpoint and above it. Andyou have to get back if you're trying
to kneel with Brooken and you're Ithink when a trap forty seven billion dollars
or something like that. Yeah, that's not doing anything. That is not
(04:09):
a good thing. However, thereis a good thing, and that's why

my friend Evan Weiner, a friendof the show, who's going to come
on and talk a little bit aboutthe history of Super Bowl. Unfortunately,
he had a last minute thing thathad to be done. We all know
(06:04):
that that that kind of things happened. So I will help you and help
put fans out there real quick understandthe Super Bowl, the first one,
nineteen sixty seven Super Bowl, whichwas played in Los Angeles at the Coliseum.
Of course, it was a GreenBay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs
(06:26):
two and most colorful coaches of alltime vins Party and of course Henry Hank
scram for the Kansas City chiefs Nowstory told me by Steve Sable many many
years ago was that after if youremember, that was the year that Dallas
(06:47):
won. You know what, inessence they a doubt, I'm not sorry,
Dallas, Green Bay beat Dallas orwhat many referred to as the Ice
Bowl, or you know picked youpick your adjective for cold, and that
was what they do they did forit right after the game. And missus
gives you an idea how how casualthings were back in the day. After
(07:13):
the game. Vince Lbardy actually usedto walk back and forth from his home
to lambeau Field, and it didn'tmatter whether it was snow would be merrily
what it was like. Outs likeVince like to walk to the stable.
So after the game he invited Steveand Ad Steve's to add the Sables back
to his house for lunch, youknow, a related lunch or already supt
(07:36):
or whatever you are taught. Andof course it was right after Christmas and
Vince, you know, the guyswent downstairs after lunch and put downstairs into
the basement where they had a littlebit of a rec room going on down
there, and Vince wanted to showoff his new cutting skills. During the
(07:59):
course of that time, he toldDisables, I don't know why we're even
going to play the stupid game outin California. We just won the championship.
Now we have to go out anddo this stupid you know, situation
four, you know, play thegame against Kansas City. The game was
not a sellout. Best ticket inthe building costs to twenty two bucks,
(08:26):
cheapest ticket in building coast of five. It was aired on both CBS,
which had Ray Scott past sum areAll and Frank Gifford, Gifford and some
are all basically worth the sidelines. They did a fifteen minute pregame show which
(08:48):
gives you some idea how things havechanged in that regard. And over on
NBC it was the team who Igrew up watching too was of course Aldro
Goddess and Andferd Gally. So onthe CBS side, Ray Scott and and
(09:15):
Frank Gifford with some we're all doingthe sidelines, no sidelines on NBC.
Game was broadcast in color on NBCand on CBS, which in the day
CBS really didn't televise all their namesin college is certain ones and assumed.
The Super Bowl at that time waswas just called the AFC NFC Championship game.
(09:37):
That was the whole situation in thatregards, So you know, that's
how it's got started. There's alsothe urban myth of who actually came up
with the name super Bowl all rightnow, the calf Pete Roselle, who
was the commissioner of the NFL atthat time. He was trying to come
(09:58):
up with the name, as wasthe head of the AFL, which of
course was Lamar Hunt. And Huntthis is the orbit. Whether this is
true or not, it is thelegend how it got to that name,
and that was Lamar Hunt's daughter cameup with the idea that you know,
(10:24):
she had a super ball, whichwas a little toy at the time you
could throw and bounce in the seventeendifferent directions. She said, why I
call it super Bowl. It's abowl game, and so her father thought
that was good, ran up bybet Roselle. The rest is history.
Whether that actually happened or somewhere backin the minds of you know, of
(10:48):
Roselle and and Lamar Hunt they cameup with the name, I don't know,
but the clever side of it wasthat that was the concept. Now
as we know for or this isfifty you know, fifty six, as
we know, um last year wasthe first time a team hosted the game
(11:11):
in their own town and also wonthe game, you know, hometown.
Now we have a chance two yearsa row for the same thing to happen
where a team hosts in a teamwins. So after fifty five years of
of not not happening, all ofa sudden we get it back to back.
That's right, asterly enough. MatthewStafford has a chance to become the
(11:33):
third quarterback in summer of Bowl Historanwin the title in his first year with
the new team. Who I'm I'mgonna guess and that's exactly what we see.
Hundred percent of you said the firsttime they're with the with the team
that's coming in the third hanging inthe third quarterback its first year with role
(11:58):
in his first year of the newteam was was Jim plunk At one of
them? Yeah? Who were there? Well? What of that happened last
year? Oh Brady? Yeah, that makes sense. Trent, Oh,
the one year with the Ravens him, how about that? And then you
(12:18):
know, Trent was summarily dismissed forElvis Gerbeck, who only played one year.
He literally played that one year inBaltimore every time, So any good
anybody? Sorry? I thought hewasn't any good anybody. I don't know
what I was thinking about going afterElvis Kirby. I thought you meant Trent.
(12:41):
I was gonna say Trent was prettydecent um, you know, right,
It's just like Brad, Brad Johnson, Rex Grossman. You know guys
who won Super Bowls who you knowwere or got to Super Bowls. Yere
who were services of a quarterback, right, you know, for all intensive
purposes, you could say that thatRyan Tannehill, even though I think it
(13:03):
was a little better than both ofthose guys, was brought in that kind
of situation. So anyway, superBowl has been fun. It has started.
It started in the nineteen seventies, the advertising aspect of it. Um,
it wasn't until the nineteen eighties beforewe got what we now see as
(13:24):
a Super Bowl extravaganza halftime show where, in essence, you know that actually
is a show that is put onby NFL Entertainment. It's a separate entity.
It's a separate remote truck and crewand everything is different from the game
(13:45):
itself. This is a concert andit's produced as such. In this few
year, it's going to be you'rebasically a homage to wrap. So we'll
we'll see that come enough. Butwhen the halftime show comes thro out of
means that I can you'll get astay because I have seen a good halftime
show at my opinion, since twentyten. We're there. Yeah, that
(14:05):
that was pretty good. Um.Favorite super Bowl commercial? You have a
couple that stand out, like Ialways like those were always entertaining. Yeah,
the bud balls worked fun like yeah, yeah, I UM, of
(14:26):
course the most the one that everybodykeeps that uh, people talked about for
years and years was the Coca Colacommercial with Joe Green where he tossed the
jersey to the kid. The kidgave him was Deca Cola. Um,
there's there's been some pretty There wasthe first Apple commercial, which was very
(14:46):
freaky. You know, we hadall of these kind It was all shot
in black and white. It wasvery cinematic and all that crazy. Um
so, and of course it wouldn'tbe a super Bowl without Applydesdale for me
the bush. So you know, there's been some some fun ones and there's
going to be some fun ones thisyear as well. Commercials with any white
(15:09):
yeah, yeah, they were good. Um oh the one, uh,
the Volkswagen commercial where the kid waswearing the Darth Vader helmet and his father
was flipping the lights on and offfrom the from the kitchen and watching out
the windows, starting to see howthe skidd was freaking out because he could
just he could make the lights goon and off with his with his hands.
(15:33):
Um so, yeah, there's talkingabout James buddy. Hey, just
hey, James, why don't yoube the first one to hit like and
subscribe. We would greatly appreciate that, along with everybody else out there.
You guys have a favorite super Bowlcommercial or favorite super Bowl memory, let
us out. We're always here tofigure that out. Was supervol five?
(16:00):
I was there? That was noI'll tell you why. My theory in
this is if Scott Miller would takesit makes that feel work, Okay,
then we do not have to putup with the craziness that was the layd
(16:21):
legend of Bill Parselves. I meanBill and they had to put up with
Timmy Johnson either. Well, Jimmywhat had nothing to do with that one?
No, but I mean he came, he came afterwards. Yeah,
I can't throw a bichade on JimmyJunior is always good to me. I
did games from the University of Miamiand Jimmy was there and was very helpful.
(16:42):
But he didn't do anything for me. That's true, That is true,
he didn't. But yeah, thatgame was. That game was.
It wasn't a particularly good game towatch because it was kind of okay,
choppy, but you know, itwas the first one that wasn't particularly a
(17:06):
blowout and it was one of thefirst ones that that was decided by either
missing or making a field goal.Um, was it Super Bowl? Yeah?
Super Bowl five in Miami. WasIt was the O'Brien kick and Ernie
of course, he who for manyyears was the pr guy for the Baltimore
(17:32):
Colts and then moved up the chainto an assistant general manager and then went
with George Young Tom to the Giantswhere they built the team that made parcels
famous. Um Ernie, of coursehe was was lamenting on the day that
(17:53):
Super Bowl five was was um beingheld that um He was on the field
during pre games, which is alsoone a PR person was doing, one
of them to be on the fieldtogether when he won't be up to the
booth working the press box. AndJim, you know, he was the
(18:15):
last of the thing that is straighton kicker and he wasn't making anything.
I mean that was he hit.He had everything, but the you know,
he hit the crossbar, and thejoke was, you know, he
was He's basically kicking the dirt.He wasn't hitting the ball problem and so
allegedly according to court you know too, of course he m Ernie's on the
(18:42):
way up in the elevator at theold Doorer's bowl and he says to the
reporters, for God's sake, youknow, I hope this game doesn't come
down to a field goal, becauseif it does, we're screwed. I
mean, because Jim isn't making anything. Of course, it does come down
to it was, and obeah,it happens to go through the uprights for
(19:03):
winning. And the funny thing aboutthat, if you recall the Super Bowl
three, that was the famous thingwhere Carol Rosenberg got really mad at at
Don Shula for you know, losingthe game to the Jets, which was
the first time the AFL won.And ye game too, absolutely, And
(19:30):
then you turn around and just twoyears later they win, but this time
they're winning as a member of theKFC and not a member of the NFL.
So I was gonna ask Evin, but since here I'll ask you speaking
of Joe, Willie Davith and donChola Cup Baltimore colts that game by starting
(19:53):
Earl Barrel or Johnny and Nice Iwould say he didn't because two things.
One, Earl Morral was more thana service in the quarterback when he never
got the credit. He was verymuch like a Frank Wright, who you
know from the Buffalo Dage, right, So, so Earl Morrell was not,
(20:15):
you know, just a guy bodyyou throw out there. He was
a legitimate quarterback. I honestly don'tthink, and this is heresy, I
don't think John United would have madeelected difference in that game, they scored
their seven points in United South. The field. Great, he was on
(20:36):
the field. Um, you know, I just that was so far at
the end of his career that Ijust don't think that that was the you
know that if you started beginning, would have changed much. Um. Well,
I just ask because you look atmoral moral you know he went to
my I mean he didn't, youknow, he did the same thing there.
He's earned for well that he hadsupplanted by Greasy. He's gonna go
(21:00):
back in. But he was.He never started again, that's true.
But you could make the same casethat you wouldn't have been in that Super
Bowl if he hadn't played, becausehe led the team there. You know
again, was he the greatest quarterback? No? Was he better than you
(21:21):
know? Um? Was he agood game manager? Like two guys we
talked about just a few minutes ago, like a Trent Dilf or somebody like
that. That's his job, that'swhat he was doing. Um. But
I don't think in Super Bowl three, I honestly believe without a question that
it was a game where I don'tknow whether the team wasn't prepared or whatever
(21:41):
you wanted to say, but Ijust think the Colts took way too much
for granted in that game. Um, and then the Jets did. And
it was kind of an ironic thingbecause if you remember, we view Bank
was coaching the Jets, and ofcourse you had done Schulla coaching, you
(22:03):
know, UM, the Colts andEubanks and and Chula. You know,
Shula is part of the EU Bankstreat so you know, we've been so
except that you had the U,the Master, and the H and the
students, and on that particular day, the Master beat the suit. Um.
(22:27):
But then there was the famous HCarol Rosenbron telling his son and everybody
else and Shula, and Shula askeds. In those days, all coaches were
one year contracts, and he askedif he was coming back, and Carol
Rosenblom was off in Hawaii and said, well, you know, I'm not
going to talk about it. TiI get back, Joe, Robbie calls
(22:51):
and asks if I Shula, youknow, wants the job in Miami.
He's offering him. Why some moneywas playing in Baltimore. Surely goes in
talks to Rosenblum's son says, youknow, I really need to figure this
out. If you guys won't beback or don't you and you know,
(23:12):
as a son said, Hey,my father told you that we're not talking
anything until he gets back. SoCarol Rosenblum finds out by picking up the
newspaper in Hawaii that Don Shuler wasnow there. He of the Miami Dolphins
to rest as history. So thereyou go. Um, we got some
fun stuff to talk about here.Let's uh, let's jump into it in
(23:37):
our Super Bowl preview show right hereon Winners and Winder Sports that in the
network, and let's go to thedata. The Alaba how we got here?
Yeah, the Rams in the finishedtwelve season, they won the NFC
list. They camped about the Arizonathe wildcard round. We watched a boat
(23:59):
twenty seven three lead against Tampa Baybefore they really to kick the Gameway field
goals time of ex player thanks toCooper Cup catching that forty four yard asked
and the zero looked that we talkedabout in a nauseam about what kind of
wolves was thinking and how Tampa Bayfor to play covering some of the guys
look like they were confused. Iwas gladly David basically stood there and let
(24:22):
worked up run by, right,So I supposed am I supposed to go
with that and that. Of course, after that the Rams cat to go
back home. They were down seventeenseven and the four from three quarters against
forty niners and score thirteen points inthe fourth quarter to beat them twenty and
seventeen, helped by the fact thatyour Christie Kurt couldn't handle a pass that
(24:45):
you couldn't gift to him any better, allowing the Rams king of Field a
little to advance the or in theSuper Bowl, even though Cincinnati they were
ten and seven of the ragular scenein Stanley, that still won in the
AFC nor because that shows how badthings were there as Cleveland fell off of
Baltimore fell apart in the second halfof the season at Pittsburg and Pittsburgh m
(25:08):
Bengals beat the Raiders twenty six nineteenin the wild Card. Everybody remembers the
questionable touchdown. They asked Tyler Boyd, where there's nagnadvert and whistle that then
the official read to say, wedidn't blow a whistle, even though you
could hear it on the replaced dogsare around the stadium. Yeah, I
(25:30):
don't even know what their excuse wasafter them. I just knew that they
weren't effishing any more games, andthen we talked to Bill Binder about it.
Then they went on to beat Tennesseenineteen sixteen in the divisional round,
just by Joe Burrow getting hammered. He got sake nine time in that game.
Of course, they were helped begthe right Tannehill through three interceptions,
(25:52):
louting one of the first player thegame, one when they were in the
red zone the third quarter, andjust camping off one their last play from
scourage. So I guess that's thecoming full circle. You can started with
an intercepting with an interceptence happening right, and then of course you know they
were now twenty one to three inthe first half of the Chiefs. They
(26:15):
put board the rest of the waytwenty four three, winning an overtime with
bedroom Homesto an interception. It seemslike the Bengals went to that eight or
that three man rush and dropping theeight guys back. He hadn't said,
he didn't know commit with it.And I'm gonna wonder if they're going to
try that again here against the Rams, because Stanford had trouble in those situations
(26:36):
where they were only three men rushingcareer in the regular season, because you
know, it makes guys it toutsdown on the three space out there.
It could be something they could tryto try and neutralize Cooper Cup coming out
in the slot. But can theyafford to give Stafford that much time because,
as you know, is it anythingwasn't necessarily the greatest pass rushing team
(26:56):
in the league imagination. I thinkthe key on that is I don't think
the run the Rams are not goingto. The Rams will try to rush,
but that that works. If youdon't have a running game, you
can you can rush three. Ifyou don't have a running game. The
(27:18):
Rams running game is schizophrenic at best. So they may try it, and
they may try to disguise it,and they may try to, you know,
make it look like they're going tohave four or five guys up on
the line of scrimmage and then atthe last second drop it. The The
problem with that is just what youjust said, and that's Matt Stafford.
There's very few defensive situations that Staffordand you know has not same before,
(27:44):
so that gives him an advantage onthat. But my question to you is
the Bengals run that, you know, run the the offense like so many
teams do. Now, whether thequarterback is never under seven, if you've
got the edge rushers that the Ramshave and they do have too are the
(28:08):
best, and then of course theygot Erdonald, do you is it?
Does it make more sense for youliterally to come up to Lash Grimmage and
go from there, not giving theedge rushers time to get to potentially to
Joe Burrow Um And and you know, to be honest, Cinciaty does have
(28:30):
a running game. They can runthe ball with it. There's a little
more flexibility they have than you know, than the Rams do. So what
do you know is one Cincinnaty goessix or seven man protection because if you
look every single pretension for them, all their offensive lightning, their tight ends
and the running backs or below averagewhen it came into pass blocking the regular
(28:52):
season, that doesn't both well here, well, No Earl was sax fifty
one time in the regular scene, all times in the playoffs. If you
throw in the thinks that Brandon Allentook they were order vags for since they
were six fifty five times a ingularseason's glad I've got a come up here.
The third team two in the Larsand the two teams that you want
(29:18):
to call that ahead of them,we're not a playoff teams. Well,
you know, at the end ofthe day, Um, we'll see.
I mean, they've got two amazingedge rushers, you know, Von,
you know, gets in there andthey I mean, because look, if
(29:38):
you will go what they did,the Rams pushed everything. You know,
they've bet everything on making it tothe Super Bowl this year and made the
trade for Stafford and made the tradefor ob j. They got They got
you know, Von out of outof denver Um. That's about. You
(29:59):
know, they've more used to farmto get there. And you know,
you like it, don't like ithow they got there. They got there.
So we'll see. But we're nexton our look out on the good
jail of the team. If youlook, the Rams were fifth in the
league and dancing it to two seventythree one year game. They were twenty
(30:22):
fifth against the run or with therun. Like you said, you were
schizophread of the ground game. Theyonly ever banging that yard game and ring
the season they were tied for sevenand scoring offense in twenty seven point one
point for game fifteen and scoring defense, and they were ninth in total offense
three hundred seventy one year seventeenth andtotal defense the Rams. They were on
(30:45):
all average and path defense there twentysecond, giving up two hundred and forty
one point seven years per game. But if you love me, they gave
up the second traftwn paths in theleague in seventeen. Only Little was better
giving up well, and they weretied for third, and they were fifth
of the nineteen um up boating quarterbacksonly headed in three point in QB rating.
Again, Rams defense was fifth inthe league and they were third in
(31:10):
the league in six in fifteen.Obviously, for those of those that aren't
familiar, don't necessarily pay a pentionsQB rating. The perfect one is one
fifty eight point three Eton Freeway roadnumber when you get right down to it,
rang seventh and passing offense atween fiftynine yard game twenty third in rushing
(31:33):
offens, so they were a wholelot better than the Ramp in that regard.
At one two and a half yardper game. They were tied with
the Rams seventh and the league andscoring offense there were seventeenth and scoring defense
at twenty point one points at nightthirteenth. As told often we were in
eighteen deenives. Big issue for theRam makes things the defense at two hundred
and three eight point four yard game. Do you have twenty to sixty guns
(31:56):
against thirteen interceptions public quarterbacks in ninetythree one quarterback reading, which the eighteenth
in the league. The Banks haveforty two sas the regular team for eleventh
in that category. Well, youknow, if you'll look at all that
(32:17):
the key statistics. The funny thingabout super Rows is that the weirdness happens,
right there's something that a team hasdone all year long long, and
you wonder, you know, whyare they getting away from what got them
(32:38):
here suddenly and starting to play adifferent style of football. I don't think
that either of these teams can getaway from what got them here, because
I don't. I think with theRams it's passing, you know, that's
(32:59):
their that'sa got an. The Bengals, it's basically to be honest, there
they play like we talked about theforty niners. They play ugly football,
you know, and they try tokeep the score low. Their defense is
woefully underappreciated. I think, umbut Joe Burrow just keeps you know,
(33:23):
doesn't matter if because sack nine times, he gets up and he he keeps
moving on. So I know thatthere's a lot of um, a lot
of the country who's jumped on theI love Cincinnati Bengals because they're, you
know, the underdog, But tome, I don't know talent wise,
(33:45):
if they can match up with theRams, yeah, that's gonna have for
the What you said, Sure Burrowgot back up against Tennessee, but the
Rams, uh, if he doesn'thave time to throw, the Bengals are
gonna be in trouble because, likeI said, that's their friend. Butter
(34:05):
and Jabar chains make sense, isgonna have a tough time running the ball
against that front seven as well.Let they hit a bunch of big path
played earlier, which is gonna makethem dimensional. Well, I think one
dimensional against the Rams. Yeah,I think the The key I think for
(34:27):
the Rams in winning this game isif they can get Matt Stafford enough time.
Because the secondary of the Bengals isn'tbad, but it's not great.
Now the same the same can besaid, actually the same cannot be said
about the Rams. The Rams defensesecondary is horrible. I mean they literally
(34:50):
pulled Garry the Weddell off the youknow, off the retirement line to put
him in as the safety. Sowell then though they are have tail a
rap back. Okay, I'm sayingwith a concussion playing something. All right,
Um, we'll be right back. We'll be a little bit of a
(35:22):
minor problem a with us. Folkswere going to continue here on the Winners
and Winners Network. Okay, I'llbe saying, uh, look that now
(35:45):
we have two chances. Yeah, one's not enough. Um, let's see
here, all right, Yeah wehave. We had a little astical difficulty.
I'm not quite sure what happened there, but thanks for hanging into there
for the minute and a half ortwo minutes. It took me to reboot
my browser. So we got keymatchups still here. Yeah, obviously the
(36:07):
top one was is like we talkedabout the Bengal offensive line against Aaron Donald,
Leonard or Floyd and von Miller. You throw Greg and there too.
He's been had his best year ofhis career playing alongside Donald this season as
well. The Bengals fifty five sacksin the regular season. The only two
teams that were worse than them theBears and the Ravens. I know a
(36:30):
thing you can point out about thosetwo teams is they had young, globile
quarterbacks that right held out the balltoo long. Obviously trust in fields with
had some growing pains in his rookieseason ed Lamar Jackson is Lamar Jackson and
then when he got hurt, TylerHumpley stepped in. But you can't give
up that many sacks and hopefully yourquarterback get back up. Like we said,
(36:57):
they were giving him twelve in thepostseason, you have nine to tennesseee.
Now they only you know one lastweek. Threw this because I don't
know what the Hills teams bag Noldwas thinking. It's not like Joe Burrow
is gonna try to beat you withhis way like Josh Allen week before.
So why he didn't design bird attemptto try and get a pass rush.
You know he was really with thesecondary or he didn't think he hope gets
(37:21):
in, which was the big goalsfrom the Bengals from thirtieth and passed wins,
block, pass block winter rate inthis season impress anybody. Now.
I know the Rams have only gotfive postseason six, but those three guys
Donald Floyd Miller half four and ahalf of the Jains has the other half
of neck. You look at theregular season, Donald had twelve and a
half sacks, food Head nine anda half, and Miller had five of
(37:45):
his games after coming over from Denver. Like we said, and since then
he can't give Burrow time to throw, it's gonna be a long night from
the Bengals. Whereas think you know, use the voice former Bengals head end
Bob Trumpy. Let me tell youthat if Joe Burrow doesn't the good time
to throw it, it's gonna bea long night for Cincinnati here in the
(38:06):
Super Bowl, and they'll go three. You know. I like the next
one. That's Hilton against Cooper Cup, who, by the way, got
one vote for Most Valuable Player.Um as Aaron Rodgers, I think that
kay, Aaron Rodgers got thirty nineof the fifty votes, Brady got ten,
(38:28):
and Cooper Cup got the one youknow, final vogue out there.
Um well, we know that Artcushdid not vote for Aaron Rodgers. We
know that much. Maybe that's theone who got the Cooper Cup, um
you know vote, Although frankly Ithought Cooper Cup is worthy of a lot
more one vote for me. Um. So, yeah, that's gonna be
(38:53):
an interesting an interesting um match.Yeah. I mean Hilton is their slot
corner. I mean, so he'sgonna be a lot up a couple lot
because the Cup makes most of hiscatches out of the slot in that system,
becaus you got Van, Jefferson andObi Jam the other side. We
know Coup led the league and receivingreceptions, receiving yards or receiving sports.
(39:16):
Hilton gave up sixty one catching oneighty five targets for six hundred and fifty
three yards and four touchdowns. Heonly had two interceptions, both in quarterbacks,
both of the QB rating of justunder a hundred against him. If
Hilton can't contain Cup and at leastkeep him and checked to some extent,
I mean those basic You're you're notgonna keep Cup off the stat sheet,
(39:38):
there's no way in help. Butyou can't let him go off and catch
ten twelve balls for one hundred andfifty yards, or Cincinnati has no prayer
because if you can't cover hid andhow are you're gonna cover Beckham and Jefferson.
And it doesn't sound like Higby isgonna play I mean, Kendall play
at tight end. But day wesaw Blade and put up some big numbers
(40:00):
against the forty nine ers in theNFC Title Game. There's a lot of
weapons in that team, and anchoredin the run game too. There's both
Earl Henderson bank for this one.Men just cutting into Cam Anchors numbers all
that present. You know, speakingof Cooper Cup and you talked earlier about
(40:21):
Steve Tasker. Okay, guys likeSteve Tasker Cooper Cup. Um, I'm
trying to think of, oh,shoot, the guy that um I'm blanking
on, the guy from New Englandthat was spent so many years sorry Walker,
yes, West Walker. Um,those possession receivers that you know,
(40:47):
Obj is gonna always be the guywho's running outside your numbers, right.
But Cooper Cup, I don't.What's been amazing to me about him is
this is a kid who you know, just runs perfect rounds, right,
and that's bear and then he thennot only is he good at that,
(41:10):
he can improvise. If he looksover and sees that matth Stafford's in trouble,
he breaks a route off and youknow he almost says this um second
sense like Walker did, and andand the relationship between Jim and Casper and
Buffalo where they know so much abouttheir own quarterback that they're gonna do whatever
(41:37):
they can to get open. Ifit's a perfect situation, then that's cool
because they run the route perfectly. If it's not, they are great at
improvising. Yeah, yeah, agood point, Dread. Definitely, he
was. He was very good atthat. There were a number who were.
I mean, I'm just singling ourfew, but right, um,
(42:00):
you know those who were the guyswho could do it, and you know,
for for the position the end,you know that as you say,
slot receiver Cooper Cup is incredibly fast. True, so you got you got
bad as well, seventy five yardtouchdown or something. I get the Tampa
Bay. Yeah, I remember that. I was. But yeah, that's
(42:22):
nothing gets underestimate because you don't thinkabout it because most of the stuff is
over the middle or you know,or you know, out rounds and things
like that, and you don't expectto be off the field. Right,
like you said, right, thatcan go downfield and make those big plays
up long past plays. The couplecan do it too, if you if
you know the opportunity well if youYeah, definitely, if you're not paying
(42:47):
attention exactly, that's that's the kindof stuff can get you in a lot
of trouble, uh real quick. So I mean that's I guess why you
got this one vote for MVP.Um. But yeah, I mean I
think a lot of people who watchfootball don't really appreciate what a good slot
(43:09):
receiver can do for you. Imean, in all those uh, in
the time Pittsburgh was doing so well, you had you know, you had
Hines Ward. You know, youhad those kind of guys. So I
mean, I think Cooper Cup,if nothing else, is brought back the
(43:30):
understanding that a guy like a CooperCup of Westwalker, a you know Asa
hid before you know Hineswood, allthose guys tasker, precise route runners who
are smart enough and capable enough tobe on the same page with the quarterback
to break it off they need toand definitely definitely gonna be a good I'm
(43:53):
glad you picked that matchup. Ithink that's gonna be a good match up.
All right. So from the matchupsexchange here and what it was gonna
bean Jail and Ramsey against Jumar Chase. I mean you have to figure.
Ramsay has been lobbying to be inthe shadow. I'm Chase since the bash
up with came out. Chase hada good rookie year anyone catches fourteen hundred
(44:15):
and fifty five yards, forteen touchdownshe's had for two hundred seventy nine years,
and the score of the playoffs. He's already got more receiving yards in
the postseason than any rookie in thehittory of the league. Now Ramsy's heels
fifty eight catches out any game targetsfor six year, twenty four yards and
three cuntdowns, and he also pickedup the four passes, had sixteen pass
(44:38):
break up, one more fumble, and more recovery. Both the quarterbacks had
a seventy one point one raining throwingat him this year. Now, dis
avery, if you've throw an incomepassed and it's the only passing throw,
you're raining his thirty nine point six. So got talking about you're having a
great day jayl and ram and it'sgonna be the highest shadow person that Ramsey
(45:02):
had gave me the round each shannelby Kevin. So when we see mcfig
coment that here, it wouldn't bea bad season but you're gonna have to
wait to make sure that you canalso make for the teen Higgins, Tyler
Boyd and those guys are covered. Then finally you got the Rams front seven
(45:25):
against Joe Nixon. Now we talkedabout the round game for the Bengals.
Nixon Rams for over twelve hundred yardsand thirteen touchdowns. Regular season had a
forty two receptions between eighteen yards andthree I was sixteen touchdowns. I had
Pete Johnson for the most stores inthe season by a VA running back.
Right was not Apy Woods. Butin the post season nix sense tapered off.
(45:52):
He's got fifty two periods for ahundred and ninety yards, the three
point seven year for carry average atone score, you've got thirteen years sept
of four hundred and six yards. The Rams were fourth in the leading in
yard per terry allowed at three pointnine. They've only allowed one yard per
terran the fourth contact that second inthe lane. The more up in yard
(46:14):
danser contact two point six. TheBengals have to be in the movement.
Boll Vixion have nothing else that camethe ray of the honest. And if
you've got maybe turning about Millard Dundleand all the kids with their ears pinned
bag doing think you've got it from. Yeah, it's not gonna be that's
not gonna be pretty excitement that lesoff in the wide. No, it's
(46:35):
not gonna be fun, that's forsure. Um. The other thing that
we that we were looking out ofhere, um Matthew Stafford versus um,
the wonderful Joe Burrow from LSU.It's I don't know what fun. It's
(46:58):
funny how people have gravitated to JoeBurrow and it's almost like here are if
you look at that, at thatteam right they come in, they couldn't
be cooler, they couldn't be lessintimidated. And then you've got the Rams
(47:19):
who are playing like the underdelf.I mean, you know they're always on
the defense from the standpoint of thepress, really, you know the press
stuff that's been done, you know, Aaron Donald keeping praise on the Bengals
as if you know they don't belongto the same building on them, and
cold And O'Brien had a great linethe other day. He said that he
(47:43):
hoped that Rams fans traveled to thegame. He would hope that they would
You go out and support their team. I mean they played in that game
against the forty nine ers. Thetwo games they played this the forty nine
Ers, they're one during the radioseason, the last one during the where
you're seeing and then in the playoffswhere you didn't know whether you're playing at
(48:06):
Levi's Stadium up in h you know, up in the San Francisco Bay area,
or you're playing in you know,it's so far, so um.
You know. Of course, whenit comes to Super Bowl, UM,
there there are very few, veryfew fans who are traditional fans. I
mean that's that the amount of ticketsthat are sold are sold at a corporate
(48:30):
level and there's a lot less ofthe traditional fan in the building. But
we'll see, you'll see how thatgoes from that standpoint. How to standing
Cronky's Filled which, by the way, a lot of controversy about this.
Technically it is not a dome, all right. I get that it's not
(48:51):
a dome. And the reason isif you look at the structure, the
stadium literally sits inside what an essenceis a canopy that goes over time,
it right, and so around thestadium you can you know you're in the
elements whatever that may be inside thestadium. You know, you look up,
(49:12):
you see a glass ceiling. Okay, that's so far, so technically,
no, it is not a domestadium. I get it. They're
talking about putting on a canapan fromthe news stand. They're talking about bill
for the hills. But they'll everfly because everybody you know, you saw
right Fitzpatrick wearing no shirt but itwas five degrees out. Uh, They'll
(49:35):
never They'll never go for a domeor a canopy or anything like that.
Portrait part well, I mean no. In the other part to this is
the weather. You know, Iknow a lot about southern California, and
I can honestly tell you that withoutfear of contradiction, that you don't have
to worry about. You know theold song it never ranged in southern California.
(49:57):
Well it does, but it doesn'twrung, not often, and it
certainly doesn't ring and a time whenit's going to affect the game. So
you know, I'm not sure youneed a dome stadium. But hey,
it's Cronky's money out mine. There'sthe follow up to that song where it
always rains in Seattle saying better heaven, that is true. Yeah, Portland
(50:19):
is another city where two hundred daysout of year rings, So there you
go. But five days it justlooks like, yeah, there's that too,
all right, So we've got youput some together some a little few
more par lay I'm sorry, popbets, which you could turn into Parland.
So let's take a look at those. Sure, I'm not about that
(50:42):
we talked about in the last coupleof days on this pay for them,
I mean fearsome going over at sevenand a half points. Obviously we talked
about how the Bengals. You know, he's got what forty points in the
postseason. I think it's a halfconcerning pick four fieldals in each of the
first three playoff games. So thatwe've talked about couple and what he can
do as a receiver when you leavethe leading receiving the regular season and receipt
(51:07):
and touchdowns, Um, you haveto think he can go over that r
cam Acres. We've said Darrell Hendersonis supposed to be back. So you
throwing him, you throwing, sayMcDill, you're throwing the thin The cam
Akers hasn't done anything besides football withany kind of consistency people'll probably come in
under your sixties three and a halfyears. I look for Stanford, the
(51:29):
over three hundred year passing at thirtyfive, he had three old think he
was against San Francisco or three pins. I may so that shouldn't be an
issue. This is the numbers actinggoing up now the first part roll.
They're now putting at night at ahalf points, which is a little bit
scarier, but I don't think.Yeah, it went from seven and a
(51:51):
half to nine and a half downnine and a half seems a little a
little bit scary, but I stillthink it would be a seven three game.
So playing towards the over, wesaid mc farrington with field Wills,
he kicked four each of the firstthree games. I don't see him not
kicking at least two. Stafford tothrow three touchdowns, that's just three,
(52:13):
not four verse seven or him. It's a specific number, correct. Aaron
Donald will go over four and ahalf tackles. You have to think he's
going to be in the middle ofit. Any time that Joe makes him
tread to run between the tackles,he's gonna see ninety nine here yea.
And an interesting spetree about that aboutpass rushman. We're talking about that Aaron
(52:35):
Donald's past block wind rate or passrush wind rate when he was double teen,
when it's the same as t.J. Watts for the whole season.
Let me ask you a question aboutAaron Donald. Does he in any
way remind you of the late ReggieWhite or Bruce or Bruce Smith someone you
(53:02):
to a point, But I meanDonald's he has to deal with so much
in the middle, with getting nobleteam by the garden center or boat guards
or guards the center and a tackle. It's like half the time he won,
just got put the old frinking offense. Why and he still getting back
the guy everybody of kind of likethe way uh uh Carl Eller or Jim
(53:23):
Marshall. I'll go way back tothe Purple people, yea Plson or Rosie
Greer, you know those guys whereit didn't matter if he put seventeen guys
on him, they just found himway to get the green anyway, Well,
as I was saying about Reggie White, I mean, you know,
you could put the entire offensive lineon him. He still think he'd drag
him back, you know, andstill get the word. Ted Hendricks was
(53:45):
another good one. Yeah, Uh, but yeah, he does follow that
he's basically on the block. Mhm. So yeah, that way,
he doesn't remind me of White andSmith and those guys. Uh. I
remember Jeff Criswell used to hain't lightingup across from Bruce Smith. You can
get to fly three or four fourthstarts, a couple of holding penalties and
(54:07):
still give up two or three stacks. Here he was still coming into his
stance, and Smith will Jurney byhim, and O'Brien's running for life.
Those were entertaining days in order orthe question he preferred to you know,
don't care there wasn't just so CooperCup making a first receptions. Yeah,
I think if the Rams get theball, they're gonna go to Cup first
(54:29):
place. I said yesterday. Ifyou're looking if the Bengals get the ball,
don't be surprised if he tries. If girls first passes at dump off
the Joe Mixon, I think he'sgonna be worried about getting the brain,
getting his brain knocked out, right, So that would be But I think
Mixon was going up at Wilson elevenhundred, I think for the first reception.
So if you're if the Bengals getthe ball. That would be the
(54:50):
way I would leave that in thatand then we got smart here. I
looked for o'dale will Beckham, thesmore touchdown at any time during the game
he was. It was at oneforty h tee Higgins. I looked a
score for Cincinnati. I actually likedhim scoring more than Jamar Chase, and
I think Ramby's gonna pretty much makethat a difficult task, so he gets
(55:13):
a plus one fifty five. Ilooked for the first score he played to
me a field weal because God knowsIncinati can't score in the red zone.
Four took down trips in the playoffs. Uh so plus one sixty five there.
Um. I looked for the gatoradcolor for those of you that are
interested in that blue the last threeyears. Um, that's going at plus
(55:36):
four hundred, I think the favoriteand right now being four inch m but
you know team colors doing this canplay a factor in the game. Kicked
up blue gatorad and last year gettingwho they're uniform. Uh and Joe Mixon
if he's gonna score ten expert inthe first half that cliff two seventy five.
Uh we talked about er Cop comingup four more at plus one twenty
(56:02):
five, we'll come out of theslot over there. It's kind of the
forgotten many or the playoff may thinkbecause the peak, you can get a
lot of the targets, but ifyou gotta get really wait, we don't
get long develop appeal. Boy willbe a nice speaking down. I think
the outcome of the first thing willdrive to be a field, will have
him the first offensive play. Idon't expect an enterty in the hand off
(56:25):
on first down. Like you said, you go with what got you here,
and that's prowing the ball. Um. I like to Stafford to win
the MVP. I think the grandto win. I'm gonna say a touchdowns
at seventy eight points. That's Ihope in the seven to twelve range.
But that's how I look forward thatm You know, it's um by all
(56:51):
the means, if you pass thisproblem we've had. Is it too much
to ask that we have a goodgame this time because so many of the
games in the playoffs have been socompelling. Um, it's just amazing.
I mean, we had that oneSunday that was not a good Sunday for
either you or me, And thatwas a Sunday when you can't believe that
(57:15):
Matthew Stafford could lead a team toan actual field goal to win with just
forty five seconds on the clock andthen thirteen seconds at the end of the
night game or that on that Sundaywhere you're sitting there going thirteen seconds,
no problem, We're you know,we're going to overtime and you know we're
gonna win. I'm sorry, andyou know suddenly you'll look up and not
(57:38):
so fast. So we've had morethan our share of entertaining postseason games.
Is it too much to ask,I guess to whether or not we're going
to get a good Super Bowl ornot? Well, we can always hope,
but you know, you never know. I guess. I mean,
(57:58):
we talked about we think the Bengalthey're probably there, they're playing here,
and the Ram you know, likeyou said, they're going for broke.
They can't afford can down the road. Kind of like, uh, I
think i'd rot with the themes beingFord with when they restructed contract and reinstructing
contract and restructuring contracts and then theydidn't have Drew Brees anymore. It's gonna
(58:22):
be interesting. But I just thinkthat the thing and the experience pitches up
with since any here fight it usuallydoes. Um why yeah, but again
I've been saying that for three straightweeks and they haven't hand out yet.
So that's you know, the beautyof the Super Bowl, in many ways
(58:42):
is what we used to see happenin the World Series, where role players
who you can't renew, Guys likeguys like Gene Tennis, you know for
the Oakland you know, Oakland Athleticsand fucking Dent with the or as they
know about him at Boston, thatbleeping Bucky Dead right, you know guys
(59:07):
go ahead, right yeah, umthose guys you know suddenly show up.
It's the same thing as Super Bowlas guys that you're just not gonna you
look at and go, really, this is the guy. Look at Tammy
Smith. Yeah. Yeah, therewere more than a few of those.
We have thought about Doug Williams inthat Super Bowl either because you know he
(59:29):
had his time in Tampa Bay thenyou know he was the bank up to
what James Rainer, Yeah, Heiner. I will tell you I was actually
at one buck place where maybe fifteenpeople that were there when when Doug Um
(59:52):
had dug it out of signing indowntown and he came out to One Buck
Place to take a look at OneBuck Place. And I was producing the
Kay's show at that time, andso work out, they're doing some stuff
that you know, getting ready.Back in those days, the draft was
not you know, the epic youknow, three day orgy that it has
(01:00:13):
become um And so we were thereto shoot some stuff. So we're sitting
there and you know, there comesdown and he comes out and he's talking
to the coaches and everybody getting himknow a few people out there, and
so one of the guys from fromone of the local papers, one of
(01:00:35):
the photographers, says, the dougyou know, could you throw you know,
throw a football now? Mind you, he is in a suit wearing
you know, regular shoes. Ifthey flip him a football, he throws
the ball probably sixty plus yards inthe air and overshot the you know the
(01:00:57):
scrub wide receivers who just happened tobe there working on that day. And
you sit there with, wow, this guy's got an arm. It doesn't
quit um and he you know,he willed the Bucks to uh the championship
game against the seventy nine against theRams. Um doug was was as you
say he was. He had thegreatest first half of any quarterback in the
(01:01:22):
history of the Super Bowl in thatgame that he beat John Elway in the
Den de Broncos down in San Diego. What are he's saying with? Yeah,
Actually I saw him because he wastraded from there to the Arizona Wranglers
(01:01:42):
US and I was doing USFL footballthose days. I saw Dougley, you
know, hung out for a fewminutes and had some myce cream together because
there was one hundred and two degreesand we're getting ready to play a football
game. And of course they tellhim yeah so so yeah. I mean,
there are always those kind of playersthat suddenly show up from out of
(01:02:07):
nowhere. You never know. Hey, guys, we're gonna have a Super
Bowl show noon to two on Sunday. Okay, by all means, take
take your little red pain out inmarket, putting in your calendars and come
and join us. Keep Mountains. We're gonna have a lot of fun.
Okay, We're gonna have some ofthe Motley Crewe that we've had on this
(01:02:29):
show will be there. Riley's goingto join us. Who's covered his I
think fifteenth super Bowl. We haveLa Bachelor who you know La, and
he's gonna bring a Bratzlor radio networkwith him, so they'll be asking us
questions all day long. And wewill have Ray Kennedy, the pengenial one
(01:02:51):
who last time spoke to him,we're sitting in a car on the aircast
trying to make us all feel bad, you know, hanging up himself.
Yeah, hanging up on himself, which is very rare. Um. So
we're gonna have some fun, somemotley characters. We're gonna have some of
our buddies from Picks and Carlace. You're gonna be joining us, so U
(01:03:15):
you're gonna have. If you're gonnahave need of any kind of advice on
what you want to do for theSuper Bowl, I can assure you you're
gonna have more than a few hon there. John Keepers posted h.
You know you can always uh,you know, send send a text or
(01:03:37):
something on text, but team sendit, Send us a tweet and let
us know if you make it.We're rooting for you, buddy. Um.
Those of me they were wondering ifat basketball by top options for today,
So you know yeah. Yeah, let us eleven over Nevada wolf Pack
one and seven on the road.We seem to play some terrible basketball late.
(01:04:01):
I also like Wright State at Milwaukeeand if you're if you the best
game of the schedule one, ifyou're gonna watch a team, you would
probably be Colins beating at home andPresidents being two good games from the Colorado
State's favored my six years. Theyshould get the win. I was.
I was leading towards Utah's State beatingup on the van of poor Lansa,
(01:04:26):
Wright State over Milwaukee on the icein a highway over Seattle, Winnipeg over
or Dallas over Winnipeg. Both thoseteams to play their first game out of
the break, the Stars coming inout of the four three win over Nashville,
the Jets being Minnesota too being athome, but now they have to
go on the road. And inthe NBA right now, we talked about
(01:04:46):
how bad the story Pistons were yesterday, the importunity completely smoked at Ridley's.
There hope today against the horning forCharlotte and Snappings sticking the half feet Christ
the game losing stream over five beingthe fifth owner city. It should be
interesting at least there you go.All right, we'll stay too, because
(01:05:11):
