From the podcast Grants Rants Hollywood Talk. It's Grants Rants, Small Talk.
Let the rundown continue. Welcome backto Grants France, where we're running down
the Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.I'm joined once again by Ali Cohen.
Hello, it's good to see youagain. For those who are listening in
(00:25):
real time, there was a reallong break in between these episodes, but
I promised I would come back andfinish. Of course, um, moving,
traveling, you know, traveling,We're busy to prison, you know
all the stuff. Oh no,wasn't that what Luis said. I've been
traveling right into prison. You know, stuff happens. Yeah, and you
(00:46):
know we're here to finish the jobas always. So let's talk about day
six. Let's talk about it.The itinerary is breakfast, wine tasting,
and Christmas in September. And I'malready in just thinking about how long this
episode was. It was around anhour with m with breaks that knew it
(01:07):
could it could have been a littleshorter. I will say. Yes,
I have a lot to say aboutthis, which I will get into throughout
the episode, including our final thoughts, but it's way too early for that.
Let's talk about uh, Dorinda isum feeling a little hungover in this
episode, and um from surprised itfinally caught up with her five days of
binge drinking. I am surprised thatshe says that she's rarely hung over.
(01:32):
She's always drinking. Maybe if youcan keep drinking, that's hair of the
dog. I think that's it.Just you know, add another one an
yeah, um, Brandy's still upsetfrom the day before. She's not over
it understandably, so you know,to catch up. Duranda mentioned her kids.
Long and short of it, Brandyremoved yourself in the situation. Try
twice. Duranda came for her bothtimes, so I, like I said
(01:56):
to you last time that we spoke, I would have left. I would
have laughed. Yeah, I wouldhave been done. Duranda says, though,
that she does not do well ingroups. Since when is this like
the biggest crock or what? It'sweird for her to say that when she's
the one who loves to make itnice and loves to have everyone over.
And why would you agree to haveall of this at your home if you're
(02:20):
not so good in groups? Really? Good boy, I couldn't have said
it better myself. Yeah, goodobservation, Durrenda, you're full of it.
She's going on to tell Brandy,oh, you know, I love
you, and you know, justdeath is really triggering for me, but
Brandy doesn't buy it. Like Brandy, she's just like, no, it's
like that wasn't cool. Durrenda doesapologize, though, So what do you
(02:44):
think I mean? Is Brandy rightto still be mad at her? Yeah,
and it's it's not just that becauseit's been a culmination of Drenda just
on her worst behavior of all time, and it's exhausting, and now she's
protect I think it's like, Ithink it's an act. I don't think
she's really trying to make things right. I don't think she's really I agree.
(03:07):
I don't think she's like trying todo anything right. She's in this
confessional at this play in the episode, crying, and I was like,
this isn't acting. If I eversaw so so, I saw such a
thing. She's she's just trying sohard, Alley, She's just trying so
hard to make it nice. It'sso it is hard, and especially when
you're attacking everyone. Yeah, whydon't we just be cool? Why don't
(03:27):
you just be like gracious and bea really good host and not take not
look for drama where there isn't thatevery every corner she's offended by something that
doesn't make much sense. And wellthere's more. There's so much more that
happens with her this episode. Shewas on her best behavior. She took
a day, she took one dayto be good, and it was appreciated
(03:52):
by the women, but they stillwere saying, you know there's something wrong
here, and there is. Yeah, I mean, even Vicky still feel
targeted by Grinde at this point. And then a classic Vicky line, if
I died right now, you telleveryone that she died sad? I love.
This was my favorite moment of theentire Real House. I was off
(04:14):
the girl's trip. I want themto know that I died sad because it
was not only she was being soreal about it. She meant it.
She meant I want the world toknow I'm upset. And the responses from
the ladies was just straight up laughterbecause they she meant it, and they
just laughed. It was so cute. I don't know why I find it
cute, but she's really heartbroken andI felt it in that moment, and
(04:38):
she kind of laughed along with it, and that was the joke, but
she felt everything. She was saying. I know you're not a big Vickie
fan, so I'm genuinely surprised thiswas a standout moment for you. You
know, I just was thinking aboutit if my fiance broke up with me
after I mean, I think thewriting was on the wall, but let's
forget about that for just a moment. If my fiance broke up with with
(05:00):
me and then I had to goon a trip, I would be NonStop
crying and talking about it. She'sdone very well, I think, in
spite of herself. I just Ikeep thinking about it, and it happens
in the next episode two. Ithink where she's just she's so heartbroken,
and I did not take that intoconsideration at first, and I've learned my
(05:20):
lesson. I think, although doI still like her not writtenly, I
think most people would agree with you. I you know, I was talking
to my sister and I was like, what, because we both like Vicky,
but we don't really know why she'sscared about Vicky. I think it's
like I just feel like I knowher so Well from the show that I
can kind of predict some of herbehavior and then when she falls into these
(05:42):
tropes of like these comments and thingslike that, that's Vicky Well is the
kookie aunt who you know. God, she says such things, she does
these things. She might not beon the right side of history, but
she's your aunt, so you loveher because that's how family is. Yeah,
and that's I think that might havesomething to do with it, because
I do. I recognize her andI have a fondness that I don't want
(06:04):
to glom onto because she is acrazy person. Yeah, that's so she's
given the show. Now, Tamraand Phaedra put on workout clothes to go
walk across the street to talk aboutdivorce and Phedre's apparently in a relationship with
a physician, and Phaedra is verytight lift she will only give so much.
(06:29):
And I kind of get it becausethis is a week long stint.
What is she going to put allof her business out there for? Yeah?
And yeah she was. We can'tforget about the way she left Housewives,
Like I cannot forget and I loveher so much in this show.
(06:51):
She's hilarious. She really brings everyonetogether, but there's a there's a darkness
there like that she won't talk aboutand I want to know. I want
to know it all. I betshe's not allowed to talk about it.
I wonder, yeah, because shelooked about that later how like it was
like, well, you know,we'll cover it now, But she was
(07:11):
like, I don't talk about anyof that, and she said something along
the lines of their being Like whatthe hell did she say? Um,
she's there's a croc of bs.They're two sides to the story. So
I will give her a little bitof the benefit of the doubt, because
yeah, I mean they cut tothat clip now twice in this series from
that reunion, and that's all weknow. So, um, I don't
(07:31):
believe her hands are clean at allin this right, but I don't.
I have to know more. Iwant to know the whole story. I
don't think we'll ever hear it.I don't think we'll ever know the truth.
You know, one we'll know it. Andy Cohen has to write a
book and they'll be secrets of thehouse. Why oh, cash in on
that terrible secret. That's my production. That's what I guess. Who's gonna
(07:53):
read it this gal right here.Oh, I'll wait for you to tell
me about it. I will, and yeah, I'll share with you.
So what else happened? Phaedra ishas organized a tasting. She doesn't really
drink, and she wants to hitreset. She wants everyone to be really
respectful. So she says this prayerand then she says, this is a
teaching moment for Dorinda, and shelooks right at her and they're talking about
(08:16):
growth. And this is how Iknow Durrenda is completely calculating because she looked
back at Phaedre and didn't fight withher. And later in the last episode,
any little comment that she can find, which we'll get into, she
uses us bait to create an argumentand explosion. And this time she was
like, you know what, I'mnot gonna yell at Phaedra. She knew
(08:37):
not to cross that one, andshe knew that, you know, with
the whole religious aspect, to kindof go with that. So this like
Phaedre, I mean, Durrinda's pickingand choosing in my point of view,
yes, oh yeah, because sheknows she's in trouble and she's getting up.
Well, actually here's what I heard. I was looking another podcast.
I know I should only listen tothis one, but you know, tell
(09:00):
me, I want to know shewas getting a great edit. Can you
believe that Drinda was getting a goodedit? Who said that it was on
a podcast? Um? And theysaid they know someone close in the Bravo
family and this is considered. Thisis better, this is what better than
what actually happened? Can you imagine? Wow, what actually happened? Then?
(09:26):
I know where the water down becauseI don't know what what I'm missing
because I'm not finding and we're gonnaget into this in our last episode,
but like, yeah, I'm notI'm not seeing what we're supposed to be
seeing here. No, let's getback to this episode though, because as
a producer moment as always where Vickyis basically instructed. Just set up a
(09:46):
question and then we talked about this. We already talked about this is the
phadre. You know, do youhave any like, um, talk about
your departure. We talked about thisis the phaedre, but like I just
have to call it out because it'sjust a fake thing. Yeah, and
that we can't hear the truth aboutit again, it bugs me. I
really wish she would set head saidsomething and she can't. Probably I think
there's a legal situation there. Butthen nobody else could say anything. Everyone
(10:09):
else talked about their departure from theshow. This is just a set up,
right for the talking head, forPhaedrias setting her interview and say she's
not talking about it. Whatever whatelse happened? Oh yes, on the
way back, this is it.This is the moment that really got me.
Brandy speaking the truth. She hitsthe nail on the head here.
She says to Dorenda, people loveyou, but they want to see season
(10:31):
one, two and your season three, Derenda, what they're seeing now,
they're going to keep you on pauseforever. And Brandy claims to speak from
personal experience and I get it.Yeah, And she says, you know,
pause sounds like a fun way ofsaying fired, which I appreciated.
She is right. She speaks forus as the fans. It's funny to
(10:54):
watch this because Brandy is a fan. Like she she's both a housewife and
a fan. And I think she, you know, that's her life.
She's never moved on from it,so she is us watching and she really
does understand in spite of herself andnot being able to properly, you know,
do the right thing all the time. She knows and what did happen?
(11:18):
Though Andy Cohen apparently did say no, I did tell her she was
on pause. There's something I thinkthat because we're seeing all these women coming
back now, there's this weird thingwhere he doesn't want to make a commitment
to saying you're done because we don'tknow anymore they might come back. Yeah.
I mean, the bottom line isshe was removed from the show,
(11:41):
like she wasn't on it. Theytook her off, but she didn't appear
in the season. So like youknow, a lot of a lot of
other housewives have faced that, andlike you said, they're coming back.
I don't know. I think itwas a mistake to say she was on
pause, but oh yeah, Imean I hope she remains on pause.
Please after all that, you can'tI think. Yeah, I don't even
(12:03):
feel bad, honestly. I meanthis because I did not like this behavior
in her last season. And Brandy'spoint, like if you keep doing this,
you're gonna be on Plus forever ishow I feel. And I was
like, wow, like good forher, Like I feel like that was
a conversation that like two girlfriends wouldhave over the phone about like you know,
the two Housewives, basically about likeyou know you're gonna play the game,
the politics, and you know you'regonna watch yourself. And I appreciated
(12:26):
this real moment. It's like beingin a book club and you know,
I'm just I think that's the wayI can wrap my head around it because
I'm not on Housewives. But it'slike being in a book club or something
where you keep having problems with thewomen and the one good friend you have
in the book club is like,if you don't stop this, you're gonna
get kicked out of this book club. And I think I think she's done.
(12:48):
I think Where the Crawdads Sing isher last book? You know what
I mean? Yeah, yeah,I think so too. Um, I'm
all set after this show and Idon't enjoy saying that. I really wanted
to feel different, but too.You know who's um looking back at her
time on The Housewives is Taylor. There's a scene where they're talking about memories
and like her only memory. Ifelt it felt like this was kind of
(13:09):
sad personally. Her memory was likeseason one, episode two, in Vegas.
Like, I mean, I knowshe didn't have a great run on
the show, Like that was it. I mean the beginning. It's kind
of like, what did you likeabout this book? The very first chapter?
I mean it doesn't really Yeah,I stopped reading a Yeah. She
we caught her at the worst timein her life and she was trying to,
(13:33):
I think, distance herself from herown self, and that's all she
can remember, probably because the restof it was so heartbreaking. I love
that she's coming to OC. Nowwhat do you think about that? I
will share my thoughts about that inour last episode. Okay, okay,
well got there. Oh I'll teasethat there you go. Okay, yeah,
(13:56):
because I do have a few thingsI want to say about that.
Okay, yeah. Drinda is claimingat this point in the episode that she
was really happy. She loved beingcalled out by Phaedre in that moment,
I'm like, okay, sure,um, And then she tells Vicky,
you know, she's you're not abad person. It's always good. Usually
they're trying to destroy each other's show. That's actually pretty light, and Drenda
(14:20):
claims that she loves Vicky. She'sjust so mad for her, she's just
she's so personally invested in Vicky's selfworth and like all these lines, I
think you were like you were sayingearly to support your point, like she's
just trying to appear normal in thisepisode. That is going to be a
good day for Durnda Medley, whetherthe one good day and Barren you know.
Yeah, so that's what happened there. They turned the page. That
(14:43):
whole part of this episode though, especially when they were talking about their favorite
moments and stuff, it felt likea clip show, you know, when
they needed they did not need tofill time. We just said it was
a very long episode, and yetoh we watched a lot of clips and
I missed those old Housewives days whenwe didn't really know these women and we
were just kind of getting onto theHousewives trained. So it was fun to
(15:05):
watch. I don't know if itwas necessary. Yeah, it definitely elongated
the show. I was just gonnasay, you know, at this point
in the episode, I was like, Okay, this scratch DH. I
enjoyed it, and then we haveto get into whole Christmas in September thing,
and that's what I was kind oflike, Well, how long is
this going to be and then Ilooked at how long which was left time
(15:26):
was in the episode. I waslike, oh my god, this is
gonna be. Yeah, hopefully there'sa lot happening. Mmm, not so
much. I don't know so much. Yeah, I mean, Brandy's on
her reunion dress, so she nevergot to wear phagers and some Gucci look.
But I liked it because it waslike kind of burr. I loved
it. Yeah, any other looksjump out to you from that. Eva
just always looks amazing. She alwayslooks so good. Um, and there
(15:50):
was other than that. I thoughtDarrinda's look was very Liza. Yes,
yeah, I don't know what Imean. Duranda is marketing herself as you
know, basically missus clause. Ithought she'd go way over the top with
something that screams Christmas. This waskind of more like, you know,
you're going out for like a cocktail, it's a nightclub act. Yeah.
(16:14):
You know. Did you watch Hacksthis season? No? I has.
I feel very very good. Okayyou should. So the main character is
Debra Vants, and she has aChristmas room where she stores all of her
Christmas stuff. This is not aspoiler, by the way, but her
writing partner or someone she's hired goesinto the Christmas room and goes, this
feels racist, but I don't knowwhy because it's covered in trees and decorations.
(16:38):
And that's exactly what I thought aboutDuranda. Not to say she is
racist, but it just felt off. I thought have felt thrown together.
I thought like they had a tree, they were standing in front of it.
It was nothing on it but thepre lit lights that come with it
from the factory. I mean,I didn't really know what the point of
it was. And I would haveferd that they did like an early Halloween,
(17:02):
because that's how I associate bluestone manner. That would have been great.
You know it like look looks likeBethany crying and there's that little like troll
like, Yeah, that's what Iwant to see. Where was that in
that attic where they had the randomconfessionals. That's so true, and that's
what I want to see. Theonly memory of about Christmas in September I
(17:22):
really did to me. It wasso like goofy and I didn't care.
Do you remember this is the onememory I have a bluesto matter at Christmas
when Bethany got her daughter that anutcracker, and Dorinda could not get over
the fact that she's like, Igot it for her. I got it
for her. Who cares Dorinda? And so that's what I was reminded of.
(17:45):
I wasn't reminded of, like,oh, we've had great times here
because they had a huge nutcracker.I remember seeing it, and I would
think about a lot of that, and I always think of Ramona screaming with
her dog on the street. Howabout how about you didn't give dirinta credit
for the nutcracker. I wish shedoesn't support other women like I just love
it. That was such a cruxof like the whole premise of the show,
(18:07):
but some training women, which reallythey don't. I whole thing is
stupid. I love that. Nowspeak of supporting women, Denise come but
I could have really done without aboutthis. Taco gate came up. I
literally wrote taco gate. Yeah,I mean, we really don't need to
get into it. But basically thelongest short of it is Tamra says that
(18:29):
Denise qualit her and asked her, what it hell do I do about this?
I didn't do anything. Tamer endsup saying she believes Denise. Whoops,
no, she actually believes Brandy, and apparently at Bravo con Denise made
an advance. I couldn't care less. To be honest with you, I'm
pretty adverse to like the Beverly Hillsdrama. Honestly, I just don't care.
So I didn't care about this tobegin with, and I don't care
(18:51):
about it on Ultimate Girls Trips,I have really no opinion. Right well,
it's very lucy lucy apple juice wherethey cling on to one thing,
one conversation for the entire season andthis just the fact that this isn't is
moving into other aspects of the worldis upsetting. My favorite part though,
was on the screen they said sourcesclose to Denise have denied this. Oh
(19:12):
I missed that. I mean,oh yeah, it's like I forget to
disclaim her on the screen. Yeah, just for that one Denise perhaps uh
lawsuit that might come true, justmaking covering our butts, you know what
I mean. But then you knowshe's really honestly like, embrace that if
it's true or not. And justI mean, Denise is not only fans
(19:33):
now, I think her daughter isnot only fans like I mean, you
know, they seem like a sexpositive group to me, and that's good.
I mean, just you know,I would at least have some fun
with it if it's false. Imean, I'm not saying if Tom,
I'll never tell or something, butto deny it so heavily really seem like
something weird happened. And why there, I mean, I get it.
(19:56):
You know they're married, like orshe's married, at least Denise's, and
so she didn't want her husband toknow. I don't know, it's all
weird. Aaron's weird. I'll saythat right now to be a husband.
Um, so I don't know,but I don't know. Yeah, I
don't know. Yeah, but thenthey talk about sex more who I just
(20:17):
want to talk a lot. Ifound it awkward. Yeah, I mean
I wrote Everyone's horny, That's whatI wrote basically during just paranoid because she's
not drinking and she had to leteverybody know she was not drinking, like
okay, ten minutes and then umwhat Yeah, Taylor says that Brandy is
either like effort or fight and Iwas like, I don't really get this,
(20:38):
but okay, and she basically wantseverything to move towards friendship with them,
and they have a moment and Vickypretends to snore, which is a
classic Vicky moment, which I mean, again, I get it. Why
are we still talking about that?It is boring. It is um And
then Vicky again, she's boring ina way. She's so forceful about how
(20:59):
straight she is. Why why doyou care somebody's asking you think? I
think it's generational. They don't wantit. Yeah, but it's not real.
It's a hypothetical question. She's like, so like, no, I
can't. Well you don't have to. We're just asking two things. Yeah,
I mean, just it's it's justa kind of playful fluidity, like
(21:21):
everyone's drinking. Like it's just youknow, no one's telling you have to
do anything. No, but sheyeah, I think you're right it is
generational because I'm sure if I asked, like someone around her age, they'd
be like, I wouldn't. Iwouldn't do that. Okay, well you
don't have to. She had tomake a very loud point that she never
had multiple partners in her life.I mean, she's very serious about her
(21:41):
sexcapade. So according to Tamara, though, she's like a horny mess.
Who needs constant sex. So it'slike one of these things. It's not
like the other. But whatever.Yeah, um, what else was happening
here? Drenda of course has fakesno, of course, and was extreme
impressed. But I think the personthe most impressed was Jill. Jill had
(22:03):
her cell phone like like this toget it to get to get the snow
in front of the cameras and forthe act like Bravo cameras. I was
like, yeah, of course Ifigured they would do that. I mean,
you know, it's not that it'sbeen done, you know what I
mean, like you go to Disneylandfor that, it's been done. Um.
(22:26):
And then I was like, Okay, we're definitely wrapping it up.
They're all gonna just kind of bedone for the night. And then I
have to do this White Elephant.Yep. I do like playing White Elephant
and I do like watching it.Um. I thought the present sucked.
I thought they were like, yeah, I didn't even care. I mean,
Taylor and Brandy are making out oversome body cream like opassed me out.
(22:48):
I didn't like that, and notbecause they're kissing, just because the
two of them are so strange andthey have such a strange relationship and it
felt weird. It just felt weird, and I didn't like it. Yeah,
the whole thing is so stupid because, yeah, they make up and
then they have to go and dothose confessional interviews with then they just talk
smack about each other. So it'slike one step forward, one step back.
But I mean it's all right, they did it. I think that
(23:11):
was for cameras. Yeah, andthen Jill gets an ugly Christmas sweater and
I was like, oh god,I am so dumb with this now,
because an ugly Christmas sweater like thisthat was like cute, like early two
thousands, you know what I mean, Like we're I think we're I think
it's played out. I don't thinkit's as funny as it is as they
make it out. Just seem like, oh, look at this. Of
course she's Jewish, I get thataspect, but well, Jill is living
(23:37):
in her mind in the early twothousands, she might even be in the
nineties, so for her, thiswas like a brand new thing, you
know what I mean, You knowwhat, Yeah, I thinks it's her
first wanted didn't she say it first? Which is interesting because I feel like
this is Yeah, you're right, this has been happening for a long time.
You'd think she would have picked itup along the way. I'm Jewish
and I ugly Christmas Swaters because I'vegone to parties for Yeah, they make
(23:59):
the broad denominations absolutely. Yeah.So I mean it's it's not really a
new concept. There's nothing like religiousabout a cat with a Santa hat on.
True. Well, that wraps upthis episode. Final thoughts, you
know, a few thoughts. Ihad it and I love even so much.
I find it interesting that she's stillsmoking. I just I see it
(24:22):
and I'm like, this is itfeels anachronistic, Like it feels like not
of this time, speaking of Jillbeing in the early two thousands, but
who's smoking anymore cigarettes? Um?And then you know, White Elephant was
cute. No one wanted the Jillan Alley bag, which is not surprising.
I just oh and Jill. Speakingof Jill, I really I didn't
(24:44):
feel bad, but I kind offelt bad that she was so hurt that
no one shows to have sex withher. Oh yeah, I remember that
she felt real bad about it,and I felt bad for her because that
is hurtful. Yeah, no onewants to feel like the least desirable.
Yeah. Now, yeah, wellmy final thought is that this show needed
a tighter edit, too much, too much extra. Yeah an hour.
(25:10):
I mean this was like, Ithink fifty six minutes. And you know,
I watched it once and then Iwatched it to take notes, and
I mean it was a commitment, yes, and you know, I was
just I want to be entertained, and I felt like I was kind of
like, all right, let's move, let's move, let's move. And
that's not the feeling I want toget watched and these shows I want to
feel like, wow, that wasa great shock. I used to feel
that about Rodneals, like oh no, it's ending, Like yeah, I
(25:32):
got so much automis and I wantedto see what happens next, and like
this, I was kind of like, all right, go to bed,
let's wrap it up. I don'tneed to do these gifts. Like that's
just you know, unfortunate for me, but also like the edit could have
done a better job. I livefor the to be continued, or I
used to, especially in the goodseasons, and I'm hoping, I'm hoping
we're going to come back to thatas Bravo continues to grow. Yes,
(25:56):
we shall see. We'll stick withus because we're gonna be back with our
last episode, wrapping up the finalepisode, going through all the beats,
of course, and then we're goingto look at these the cast members,
the women, and saying what hastheir cachet gone up or down in our
opinion since watching this show. Sothat and more stick with us. This
