Y no sólo eso. Cuba en el sentido literal también es un gran centro penitenciario, pues todo el país está minado de prisiones y centros de reclusión.
Recordemos que antes del régimen castrista en la isla, que tenía 6 millones de habitantes, había 14 cárceles; ahora, medio siglo después, hay alrededor de 300 prisiones para 11 millones de ciudadanos; los habitantes se han multiplicado por 2, la cárceles se han multiplicado por 20. Y si hacemos una comparativa según el número de habitantes las cifras son aún más desorbitadas: en España con una población de 44 millones hay 100 mil presos, en Cuba con una población 4 veces menor hay más de 140.000 presos.
