for joining us tonight, back at home in the Hamshack
and from being out of town for the last week,
and it's been it's been fun. It was a great
trip we had last week. So thanks for joining us tonight.

(01:03):

Kelly was in there early of course, Wayne saw you
in there earlier. Tom kJ five GKK, Jeff AA four BC,
Good evening, Aaron KQ four h Z K Jody V
five SAR Good evening, guys. How y'all doing tonight and

(01:30):
there we go, see Rene six in the house. Glenn,
thank you for the fifty dollars super chat starting things
out right. Look at that look at that fifty dollars
super chat. That's I'm not complaining about that. Thank you
very much for joining us tonight, Glenn. Appreciate you guys
being here. How many of you worked us on PODA
this week? How many of you worked one of us

(01:54):
on Poda this week? I would like to know. There
were seven of us that were licensed, No, eight that
were licensed, I think. And uh, we all activated multiple parks,
and well, everyone activated a park. Everyone activated multiple parks
except for Hobby K six T and T. He did

(02:15):
two or three soda summits. Mm hmm, so that that
was a thing on his end. He's a he's a
soda guy. Uh. Tim. Tim wants to know is it
delighting or is my beard grayer? I don't know, it's shorter.
I cut it. This part of my beard was gray

(02:35):
when I started growing it in the eighth grade. It's
always been gray. So yeah, always always, but you know,
probably lighting to I don't know. The bands were a
little bit tricky, but we made it work.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Let's bring the crew in. Unmute there it is. What's up, guys,
how's everyone doing a tired? Tired? Yeah? Yeah, I was.
I was telling them I went to the gym this
morning and I was just kind of dragging behind. I
wanted to go because I hadn't been in a week,
and it was uh, I'm glad I went, but I was.

(03:15):
I go in there, He's like, what do you want
to do heavy day? I was like nothing, I just
want to kind of get back into it. I'll be
back on Tuesday do heavy bench press, but not today.
M Yeah, so okay, so thank you for calling that out.
W three three WV three V. Yeah, my video this

(03:35):
is something that this is something that OBS changed. So
it used to tell you when you would switch scenes
that you would it used to say, hey, you're in
four K or you're in ten ADP. So I was
in four K. I record everything in four K, but
I stream in ten ADP. I forgot to change it,
so it's streaming in four K. Now, that's why it's laggy.
I figured that out after two or three times last time.

(03:57):
So let me know if the audio is bad. The
audio should be okay, uh, but yeah and everyone else,
everyone on Zoom, your video should be fine. But my
video is gonna be a little glitchy. But I'm trying
to turn some stuff off in the background here. But
it's my fault. It's my fault. So Kyle, you're driving home,
he said he was in Kansas. I think I'm driving home. Yes,

(04:22):
you can be home win tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah. I don't think I'm gonna be able to get
home tonight. Yeah, Napp says midnight. I'm not gonna drive
to midnight. I'm gonna drive to the end of the
screen and probably find a campsite or I might even
get a hotel room because it's one hundred degrees out here.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh yeah, Well, I thought you said you were going
to plan to be home on Tuesday, so I think
you're ahead of schedule, right, correct?

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:46):
No, good, good deal. Okay, audio is fun.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Nine.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
What's up? Freddie Mack? Thank you very much for being here.
Well cool man, drive safe. Thanks for joining us. Jeff,
have you ever been on stream before? I think you have?

Speaker 5 (05:04):
May I think maybe one of your Friday.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Night Uh oh the happy hour.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Happy hours like you a year and a half ago.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Okay, are you still active on your channel?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Nope, I haven't. Okay, don't get posted in.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
I don't think I've done a live stream in about
two years.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You still upload though?

Speaker 5 (05:29):
No, I've never done an actual I never uploaded video.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
I did oh you only did live streams.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
Okay, A bunch of lives, okay.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Okay, Jeff channel. Jeff's channel is him radio nomad. So yeah,
that's uh, but hey man, I hope you pick it
up again soon.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Been considering that.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Noah good good. Nasser says, I need an in the
video RTX five fifty ninety video card or even a
thirty ninety. Uh maybe maybe I do. I built this
computer for streaming, but it's been like two maybe three years,
so whatever I got, I think I bought like a

(06:16):
six hundred dollars video card. But of course, you know
how fast computer technology moves. I'm sure that video card
is probably worth about twenty seven cents today, So a
video card upgrade would probably be a really good idea.
Maybe I'll look into that. I will check that out. Mike,
what's up, buddy?

Speaker 4 (06:32):
How are you? How are you doing? It's my audio? Good?

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Yeah, you're you're okay. It sounds like you're on ambient audio,
but it's it's one hundred copies.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Of this always has issues, but it's better than having
a echo going.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, no, that's fine. Yeah, yeah, good man, how are
you good?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Good? Tired? Yes, got back really late Friday night. Saturday
morning was about twelve thirty in the morning before I
got back home. And then yesterday was full of family
stuff and everything. So I did and I still did
like four hours of driving yesterday, and so to relax today,
I spent half the day working in the new shack.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Oh yeah, you just got a new house, right.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Yeah, yeah, so, uh uh A lot of my gears
still at the old place that has been remoting to
get out. Six is I'm not going to lose any
days on that. Yeah. I've got two forty wired into
the new room, finish the drywall, just get the ceiling
hung to the floor, and then I'm ready to move
things over.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Awesome, good deal, cool man. Good luck to you. We're
going to see you. Uh So you and mad are
get to be camping next to me next month, right, yep, yep,
that's plan.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Okay, good We'll keep the RV spot open for all
the seats and everything. I'll probably be working camp shares too,
I usually do.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, that's a good idea. Yeah, we're gonna so. I
sent an email to Mark from hemphest chairman Huntsville Hampfest chairman.
I sent him an email just like late this afternoon.
He hasn't had a chance to reply yet. Maybe maybe
I'll hear back from him tomorrow. Trying to get him
onto the stream next week, next Sunday, and then I'm
going to invite all the YouTubers onto the stream in
two weeks, So everyone mark your counters for that, says Kyle.

(08:11):
Looks muscular. All that hiking, et cetera has made him buff. Uh, Kyle,
Let me tell you so, Kyle did him right right.
Kyle did a hell of a job planning all of
most of most everything we did this past week. He
did a fantastic job laying out our course, mapping it out,

(08:32):
where we were going, what we were doing, and it
was it was an incredibly fun trip due to his planning.
So it hats off to Kyle. For sure. It's not
the first time he's done that, but he did a
really good job with that this time.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Thanks Kyle.

Speaker 7 (08:44):
I think he missed his calling. I think he's a
travel agent in disguise.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
The certainly certainly seems. Yeah, we pulled.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Out, we pulled off the paper maps a couple of
times there too.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
That was awesome. I said, I wasn't a part of that.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, yeah, Hobby wanted to go get a paper map
one day at the store and Kyle's like, I've got
paper maps, of course you do. Uh got a really
good Uh got a really good use out of the
new Uh. I say new, It's not new to me,
it's new Gaya GPS app uh. When we were at

(09:21):
the More Expo in April of this year, there was
a guy that did another YouTuber in the overland community
that did a presentation about Gaya GPS all the different
mapping features that it has, all these layered maps you
can add to it, and I hadn't. I went ahead
and bought it at that point in time and downloaded
it and kind of tinkered with it a little bit,
but I hadn't really used it, used it until this trip,

(09:42):
and I think I'm gonna I think I'm gonna like it.
I've been kind of watching it ever since then. So
it's it's gonna be a good mapping program. I think.
Not quite the replacement for Google Maps. I was hoping
it was, but you know, some some extra stuff that
you don't get on Google Maps, and still a good
mapping program, especially if you're get and off the interstate
or off the highway. So I'm looking forward to using that.

(10:03):
I might try to do some videos about that soon,
but we'll see. So, Robert, I didn't call on you
because well, first of all, I didn't know if we
were going to lose Kyle, and then Jeff and Mike
aren't aren't regulars on the stream. But you are so good, evening.
How are you doing?

Speaker 7 (10:19):
Yeah, good evening. I am. I'm recovering, man, I am tired. Yeah,
And I slew up like a rock last night. I
had the best night's sleep, and I woke up, you know,
like I was raring to go, and I and you know,
I overdid it of course, right. I did all my unpacking,
all that type of thing, and then I decided to

(10:42):
go spend three hours outside in a hundred degree heat,
which was not a it was not this smart move.
But no, I'm good though. I'm trying to get rehydrated
and try to get to a point where I can
actually be functional at work tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
So okay, I yeah, I I probably I went to
the gym this morning and I'm live streaming tonight, so
I didn't. I didn't go out and mow my crass today,
which is what I should have done. It's just too
hot during the day. So that's my task. First thing
in the morning, be mowing my backyard.

Speaker 7 (11:14):
That's the time to do it.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah. Yeah, so I'll be tackling that first thing in
the morning. So we'll see. But yeah, I hear you
about sleep. And I slept pretty good last night, although
I slept Emily's. Emily's cousin stayed with us last night.
She was in town for the weekend, and she flew
out early this morning. So I slept downstairs on the
couch with the dogs, and so I kind of slept
in the same type of environment last night that I

(11:36):
have been for the last week, which is not in
my normal bed. But it's all right, it's all good,
just trying to keep the dogs quiet and everything through
the night. But do what you gotta do, yep. So cool. Well,
I'm gonna bring up a subject that might be a
little touchy here in a minute, Rob, that has to
do with you, okay, all right, all right, yeah, yeah,
it's good, Frank. What's going on? But I didn't know

(11:58):
you were streaming tonight.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Yeah, I was. I set the stream last yesterday when
we were in New Mexico, and I set it for
seven o'clock or six pm, and guess what time had
said it for Central time seven seven pm. Wayne reached
out to me and he's like, are you straight at seven?
I was like, no, six. He's like, well, you need

(12:19):
to go check that and oops. I had Steve and
we were talking about just the radio basics for parks
on the air and how did it get all signed up?
And wasn't mean to do stuff and interact with the sight.
It was a great stream. If you're interested in it's
certain parks on the air, head over check out that stream.
It gives you a lot of good information. Talking about grass,

(12:42):
I'm in the same boat. I looked at my grass
and I was like, Jesus Christ, the front yard is long.
And I mowed that last week. And I looked at
the backyard now I did not mow that last week,
and I was like, I don't want to do this,
but I can't even get to my mower. And in
my garage that tent setup because it rained. I have

(13:02):
the cot set up because it rained on it. I
had the tart draped over stuff because it got rained
on on the back. So everything is in my garage
because it's about the rain outside it maybe today was
a little funky, so I can't even get to the lawnmower.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Well, that sounds like you need to plan better for
your garage setups.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Well, I am thinking about doing a sort here. I
swear I went a vacation. I did not. I did
not camp in the garage. I think it'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Right totally now, it'd be fine just that. Yeah, yeah,
I mean I have to put Sapphire outside for for
a night.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
She's she's outside right now.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Ok.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
I checked the weather. It was only supposed to be raining. No,
no bad storming.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
Hey, you know what, we got to give Frank some
credit here. Frank is like one, He's in the one
percent of Texans who actually put their vehicle in their garage.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Point.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
That is a thing. I don't know why, how I
have what the deal is there, but Texans don't put
their vehicles in their in their garage.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
You get bad hail down there too. M M.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Sapphire goes in the garage. She is kept up and
she's a kept car.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
So my, my, my, my truck has been hailed on
numerous times. I've never had hail damage. That's what you
get for driving a Ford. And uh yeah, yeah if
I if I drove a Crackerjack box car like Frank does,
and it would probably split in half at the Texas Haile,
I probably put it in the garage too. No, but seriously,
it's uh yeah, I've got an old truck in my garage,

(14:41):
but I've driven it in like six years, so I
don't think that really counts. But yeah, very very true.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
So when we're talking about sap Fhire, I just mentioned
or just glanced down to Kyle and he was just
shaking his head, hanging in shame.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Oh gosh, huhm. Well that's how it is. I know,
I know Kyle parks his car in the garage. Of
course he's not in Texas.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
But Kyle, good for you.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
He's got yeah and the trailer.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Yeah I get I get both of them in there.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (15:16):
Yeah. You can't move to Texas, Kyle. They won't admit you.

Speaker 6 (15:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Well, I mean my garage is so fall I gotta
have to. I have to play rob like in Utah
where he greasy up.

Speaker 6 (15:26):
And like, yeah, that's good.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
May it's Mike where he's at because it looks like
you're in the hospital. Did you make it home? All
right behind you.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
I'm in Jenny's office. My office is under construction. Oh yeah, yeah,
that's also why it's pink right there.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
I thought that was just an off white color from
the camera. I didn't know it's pink.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
But yeah, you guys gonna kick out, throw so much
of them as well. Give some almight mm.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Hmmm, true, good point shoesh Okay, all right, Frank sent
me other friend, not that Frank, the other one sent
me a a clip that I think will be pretty fun.
So hold on second here, let's see, uh if I
can do this and uh, yep, just like that, and

(16:24):
I can do hold on ye, pay no attention to
the man behind the curtain. Hold on second.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Well, well you're doing that. I'll just take over a
little bit. What was your highlight of the trip? What
was like the like the one place we went here,
like I don't want to leave.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
I tell you what, I really liked that that very
first off road drive we did, the back door into
the black canyon of the gun of sen That was
that was pretty enjoyable. It was and I'm pretty sure
it was longer than the other drives we did, or
it seemed to we seem to be out there a lot.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Longer, crawled a lot.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Yeah, but I really, I really very much enjoyed that. So,
I mean, I enjoyed all of them, but I very
much enjoyed that one, maybe just because it was the
first one and I wasn't expecting to be so off road,
and I really liked the off road aspect of it.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
But I was really jealous of everyone driving. I wanted
to drive and do that trail. It was so much fun.
Are you still do? You got set up?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:29):
I got it, I got it. Let's let's see, let's
I think this is yours Frank, the other Frank other
Frank sent this to me.

Speaker 8 (17:36):
So s P R Romeo, Tango Zero, Alpha, Delta, Sierra
and Whiskey to Homeo.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
Uh that was good.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
I gotta admit it. That was good. So yeah, I thought,
I know, I know, I know it. Did you cut
that clip out or did Frank one of you?

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Okay, uh yeah, Whiskey Whiskey to Was it Hobo Rodeo
Romeo Charlie or the other one h O m O Romeo?
I didn't hear what y'all said. I thought he said
hobo at first, but you know that was so that

(18:41):
was somebody. That was somebody who I did to us
that wouldn't use it. That Colt side. That's funny.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
That was fun That was my first Frank.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, that's right. Oh, that's why he sent it to me. Yeah,
that was frank. Yeah, that's funny. We had fun. That's
kind of what we do. We go out there and
have fun like that.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
So that was.

Speaker 9 (19:06):
Club house right right, Yeah, gave us like four calls, right,
he was just he was just spinning them out.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Prepimple. It was the altitude. They can't handle, lack of oxygen.
That was a real That was a real thing. Yeah.
You you start hiking a little bit and you're like, man,
the arab here is thin. You don't you don't. You
don't realize it until you start moving, kind of like
you know, with a pack on or a pill or
something like that.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
Sounds a lot stronger too.

Speaker 7 (19:39):
Yeah, one beer feels like two.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, yeah, very true. But yeah, y'all, let us know
there's been a few more people join you. Let us
know who worked us because we activated what I think
I had four park activations six Okay, I think four. Well,
we did one on the wait on the drive home, yes,
and then we did uh. I don't know, I have

(20:05):
to count.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
I haven't.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
I haven't actually uploaded my logs yet, I need. I
was looking at my logs today, but it's uh. I
was thinking it was four or five, but maybe it's six.
Maybe maybe it is six, including the the campsite where
we stayed.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
Yeah, that in the b l M. Right, So we
had the Black Canyon of the Gunnisan, then we had
Gunnison b l M.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
I didn't do Black Canyon the Gunnison because already had
that one my logs three weeks ago. So yeah, you
guys should have one more than me, that's true. Yeah,
I forgot about that.

Speaker 7 (20:37):
Yeah, so that's probably the difference.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, well it reminds me toos made the log for
the uh the b l M land Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Activated together, yep.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
Yeah, I was driving them when we did that activation that.
I just said, let's us call it, you know, get
the calls as we were going.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Yeah, we worked Mike K and m RD on our
drive home after we left, actually it was before we left.
You Kyle, I think you were behind us when we
were working him. But it was shortly after we left Monarch,
I believe, and we heard and we got a HAM alert.
And two or three times I got a HAM alert
on him and I couldn't really ever hear him, but
we heard him that time and he was down in

(21:18):
the noise. He gave me a five eight. But uh,
I've got some I got a video or two I'm
gonna make about my mobile radio setup, which I'm not
really happy with at this point in time.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
So you guys, that was actually before Monarch, right, maybe
he was still in the current Kanti National Recreation Area.
We were still in that.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Maybe it was after we left that PODA activation in
a way, okay, maybe that's what it was. Okay, Yeah,
that's right, because you guys had worked it. You guys
worked him park to park. I didn't even log him,
I just because I was driving. But uh, you know,
I just worked him as a as a chaser. Yep, good, Yeah,

(21:59):
that was cool.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
I hardly ever get to work Mike because we're too close.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Right.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
He was really down in the noise that time.

Speaker 9 (22:06):
Ye, yeah, he was.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Yeah. I worked him when we were in Big Ben
earlier this year. Like in April and he was booming
in there. And that was in Texas. I was in
Big Ben National Park in Texas and he was in
at his home park and he was booming in five
seven five eight on that on that day. But the
bands were the bands were kind of kind of garbage
this whole week and they have been for a while now.
But when we were driving back yesterday after we left

(22:31):
the Airbnb, I was getting Hamlerts from a friend of
mine in the club up here and he was working
ft eight on twelve meters and I'm like, dude, if
twelve meters is open, maybe the bands have finally opened
back up. I don't know, though. I haven't been on
the radio in the last couple of days, so I'm
not sure if that's true or not. But guys, let
us know in the comments if you've been on the
radio this weekend, and how the bands are.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
So who's uploaded their logs?

Speaker 5 (22:59):
Truck Robert and a couple of hours ago, I didn't have.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Oh good, good, Jeff awesome. So Jason and I are
the slackers.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
Yes, I've been working on videos. Same here working on video.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
I'm trying to edit and I don't think I'm going
to finish the video for tomorrow. I should have done
it more in the car. I just didn't feel like it.
I was cramped man in that backseat. What mm hmm,
I was going to somewhere else. Log logging software I
saw a couple of times I asked what logging software?
Did we use anything other than Hamber's and Polo?

Speaker 1 (23:40):
I used World Radio League. When I had an Internet connection,
which was most of the time there was. There was two,
I think activations where I had no Internet connection, so
I used Polo. So but if I could get get
an Internet connection, I used World Radio League. I'm actually
gonna work on a video about a comparison of those two. Also,

(24:03):
i'll give you I'll give you a quick preview of it.
Neither one is a bad option. They are both very
good options, and pick the one that you liked the
best and go for it. Neither one is a bad option.
So but yeah, I'm gonna do a video that kind
of compares them. So, yep, yep, how many? And Rob
did a bunch of satellites and apparently that was a

(24:25):
The grid where we were camping and where most of
the places were was Delta Mike sixty eight, which is
a rare grid for satellite operators apparently. And how many
did you count up the total number of contacts you made, Rob.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
I.

Speaker 7 (24:41):
Think I had twenty two contacts in total.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
Okay, but you did some from Delta Mike sixty seven, also, right,
I did.

Speaker 7 (24:52):
I did one pass from Delta Mike sixty seven and
I had four contacts on that pass.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Okay, Okay, yeah, hmm okay. Yeah, Well that's I mean,
that's pretty good for that's twenty two people who probably
who presumably didn't have that grid square before. So that's
pretty good.

Speaker 7 (25:11):
Yeah, it was. It was fun. It was like after
every pass I started getting people reaching out to me
by emails saying, hey, don't forget to upload your logs.
That's a new grid for me.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:22):
I was getting you know, emails and dms uh the
entire week after a pass. So, and I had that
one very cool pass where I got Alaska and Mexico
in the same pass. That was awesome.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Yep, yep. Tom already talked about the camera glitch problem.
Uh don in five SKT NASA and I want you
to talk antennas as in are you are you asking
what intentas we used and then uh, whiskey Victor three.

(25:57):
Victor who's on my All Star system by the way,
he's asking what satellites did you work?

Speaker 7 (26:03):
Yeah, so I was just responding to that, so sois
iss so one four mm hm, And that was it.
Those were the three that I tried. I tried operating
Tevel two three, but I didn't have any luck with that.

(26:23):
And when I looked at the Oscar status page, there
was some people that were having success and some people
that weren't. So I don't know what the delio is
on that guy yet. I know, you know, they turned
it on for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
They had to do some adjustment on the squelch because
radios weren't able to break squelch on it. So I

(26:46):
think they're still tuning it. So I don't think they're
ready to start lighting those up on a regular basis yet.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
M Okay, yeah, well that's at least you've got the
chance to try it. But yeah, I think you did
several of those.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
Yeah, I did.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
S fifty was I mean, we were just in the
right place at the race at the right time for
so fifty. I think I only worked one is one
ISS pass. There just weren't good ISS passes, you know,
whenever we were whenever I was available. Put it that way,

(27:23):
I mean I wasn't. I mean, the whole caravan stopped
a few times for me to work passes, but we
didn't stop on every single one of them. It was,
you know, more of an opportunistic I kept saying, I'm
working holiday style.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
I think I think the ISS passes were lying up,
like there was a morning wave when we're all getting
ready to get out, yeah, and then it was late
evening when we're already back and tired.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Right, relaxed, and what it came overhead that one time
that was supposed to be really visible at like what
eleven thirty, twelve o'clock at night, and we were awake
for that, but there was really bad cloud cover night,
so we never saw it. I mean, I guess you
could have worked it on satellite, but we never physically
saw it, like they were saying you should.

Speaker 7 (28:06):
Thirty We were in campfire mode and I was ye, yeah,
I wasn't gonna drop.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Camp that's right, relaxation mode. At that point, all right,
people are asking what poda intendas did we use what
what intents did y'all use for the PODA activation? So
I took my tar heel and I never actually set
it up. I kind of had that I what I

(28:34):
should have done is set that up at the camp site,
but I never did because I thought, oh, we'll set
it up in the in the National force or something.
But we always use someone else's antenna. I know we
set up the pac tena once or twice. Mike on
stream here he had a buddy stick pro set up
at the camp site, and UH and Kyle had a
some nine to one random wire. I don't remember who

(28:56):
makes that one, but I think that that's primarily what
we used was the infed halfwave, like mostly the pac tenna,
And there was a vertical we used at one one point,
wasn't it or did we just hang the in fed
halfway vertically?

Speaker 2 (29:12):
We had infed half wave that was a PAC ten
a one activation. Then we use a Kyle, what was
your intendent? Was the n fed half wave?

Speaker 3 (29:24):
It's just a homemade random fire.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, yeah, I remember it being a nine to one.
We were we had the FT eight ninety one with
a tuner on that one and Uh I brought my
eight ninety one. We used it a couple of times.
Kyle had an eight ninety one.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Mike.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
You were using a seven o five but mostly doing CW,
and I think the rest of us just kind of
borrowed we we. I don't particularly like this is this
might this might be a topic for a for a discussion,
for an entire live stream. I don't particularly like past
the mic if you've got five or six guys activating.
I don't like when you say, okay, stand by for second, operator,
stand by for second, and then you pass the mic along.

(30:04):
I guess it can be more efficient at times like that,
but I'd rather just sit down and get my ten
to twelve and then hand it off to somebody else.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
And there's nothing against the rules to do it that way,
of sniperer.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
I know, No, there's nothing in the rules. No, I
just that's just my personal preference.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
I agree with you, except when the bands are terrible
and it's taking you twenty minutes to get those or
thirty minutes to get those ten contacts. Once you get someone,
pass that guy around. Yeah, I don't know that.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
I want to do.

Speaker 7 (30:34):
I's to argue the other way, because I mean, just
think about that activation where we were trying to do
pass the mic. One person would get them, we'd pass
the mic and then they'd be gone.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Right.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Yeah, that was the day at the at the National Park.
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
But I I am all about sending down to get
me my ten contacts, especially if there is a big
pile up. But if the bands are terrible and it's
taking us ten minutes, get a single contact, hold on
for a second up, hold on for a third op
we we will all get them in our lugs. That's
my two cents, nothing about rules or anything. I'd rather

(31:12):
prefer work the radio. What is my turn except if
the bands are dead. There's my two cents.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
I just think it's faster. I think it's overall faster
to work it by yourself because for me and everybody's
cadence is different. But for me, once I get if
I get two or three or four operator, if if
I finally start to get a small to a large
pile up, I can work those pretty quickly. And you know,
if if I the only the only time I like

(31:39):
to pass the mic back and forth is if we
find somebody we know, like if if down in five
skat would have been on there, or uh, there's Tim Grayman,
Pode if he would have been on there, or ked
Emordi or Joe Brett. I've worked Joe Brett a bunch
of times on activations before he'll he'll turn on the
radio and hunt us. But if it's somebody I know,

(32:00):
I'd be like, oh, hey, guys, Joe Brett's on the air,
and everybody would want to work it. But other than that,
other than that, I would just rather like get my
ten twelve and hand it off to somebody else. So
partly because I'm probably in the middle of making a
video at that point in time as well, so I
want to activate and get my log done and then
pass it off so someone else can do that and
then work on my video some more so, But that's

(32:22):
just again, that's there's nothing regality wise, there's no there's
no right and wrong way to do it. It's just
it's just a matter of personal preference.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Gray Man's big saying, I don't know what's Frank's issue
getting ten contacts in thirty minutes.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
Man.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Sometimes the bands will be like that where it's just hard.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yeah, I mean it was. It was challenging when I
don't think there I don't think we ever act. I
don't think we ever had any failed activations. I think
we activated every time we tried. But it was challenging
a couple of times, just because you know, we would
have yeah, we would have stations come in five seven,
five nine, and then you say, oh, okay, yeah you're
five to nine, here's a park number, et cetera. And

(33:02):
then they'd be gone, like like just just the dand
would just drop.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
I had a real rough time at Gunnison. I walked
up the hill from you guys, I was one hundred
feet higher, had a great view of horizon. Horizon, did
all that work and I got one attact. Yeah, and
then you know, once I give it the value and
effort like that, that I'm fine with doing that. You know,
we were all there swapping between two and four forty.
I was I'm fine with that. I gave it the

(33:28):
old college try. But that that was pretty frustrating.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Oh oh yeah, I agree.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
And then later that day I activate Ridgeway and it
was you know, knocking down fish left and the right.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yeah you said, twenty meters was pretty alive that one night.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was. It was at evening because
I was so frustrated from that boat. I wanted to
do it right away back to the campsite, and it
was twenty was wide open. I got like, I think
it was thirty contacts of fifteen or twenty minutes something
like that. It was pretty good.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Yeah, that's that is good.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
That is good.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Okay, well yeah, so, but I think primary primarily we
used the pack ten. I think that's what we had
set up at shoot the unpronounceable National Forest and Last
Dollar Road. Yeah, that Dollar Road. Yeah, Yeah, that was
my pack down.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
That was actually the second time that I used it.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah, that Last Dollar Road. I think that was my
favorite part of the whole trip. When we're up at
the crest and we were activating and we had a
complete almost horizon horizon with the mountains everywhere was beautiful.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
Yeah, And that drive getting up there, I loved going
through that Aspen forest and it was just that was
an awesome, awesome drive in a great spot at the top.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
That was probably the pretty I said I liked the
first drive the best, and driving wise, I did, but
I think that uh, Last Dollar Mountain drive was probably
the prettiest drive to get up there. And then we
went to was that today we went to tell you
right after that, I think, yeah, yeah, and yeah, so
uh so, and that was that was a fun That

(35:10):
was a fun trip as well. But yeah, that was
definitely the prettiest view of our destination areas. I think
that was the prettiest one.

Speaker 7 (35:17):
Yeah, I know what you mean though, that first drive.
And maybe it's because it was the first right, but
I know, yeah. There were a couple of times man,
where I mean I just couldn't even contain myself. I
just I got so excited. No, no, Well, at one time,
you were like trying to make a turn and you
couldn't see what was going on, and I'm.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Oh, yeah, look look out, yeah, because I was up
going up a hill and uh and afferently the the
the road turned, but I couldn't see over the hood
and there was a big drop off on the right
hand side. Rob's like, look out, go that way, Okay.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Like the most fun I had, well, Jenny, Texan Mission
want me to put a plug in for for you know,
places that we went to. I definitely had the most
I don't know if i'd say fun, but most exciting
moment of off roading right outside of when we were
going up to the overlooked area. Start yes, by accident
and to the left towards a sneak cliff.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
So when I'm like, go over, what happened there? How
did we get up there?

Speaker 4 (36:18):
Little mouse?

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Google maps?

Speaker 4 (36:20):
Too much faith in Google Maps is what that was?
And correct? And Hobby was in front of us, and
I guess you guys were all peer pressuring him. He
was like, I do this.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
He kept saying that, but he he had his he
had his foot down pretty hard. I think he was
I don't want to go up here, and then I
was like, okay, he was. He was pretty into it.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
I take So, you know, that was my first real
time I've been off roading before, but that was the
first time as a driver, and you know I wasn't that.
That was literally the second trip doing that. In that
you know, we ranted the car, so I was past
my comfort zone just with the slippage. I'm sure I
could have made it. Honestly, after the drives that we
did after that, I'm sure I could have made it.
But at the time I was comfortable doing more. But

(37:03):
then I had to go and reverse down that road.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
That's a challenge because we turned around and the hobby
is like, Mike is almost up here, and then then.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Wasn't like one hundred and fifty feet away or something. Yeah,
you guys are just right around the corner.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
I was taking pictures that I turned around. It's like,
where's Mike and Hobbies like, I don't know, Yeah, did
they fall?

Speaker 4 (37:23):
We didn't hear an explosion, so I must find.

Speaker 7 (37:26):
Yeah, Mike, I think I think if I mean, you
had like a pseudo offload off road vehicle, right, you
had the broadcast sport. Yeah, I think if you would
have had a more capable machine by yeah, I think
you would have had a lot more confidence. I think
you had a much better time.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Honestly, that was the only of all the trips that
we did. That was the only time I was not
comfortable with it. Everything everything else, even the first day
I was fine that you guys are telling me how
to wheel in the air, I never felt I mean, yeah,
it happened solid, So yeah, that was blast. Absolutely, I
do that.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
I just remember you saying Jenny's behind me walking and we're.

Speaker 7 (38:10):
Like, what, don't try to make her up?

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Yeah, yeah, I was.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
Don't try to be You were like, don't try to figure.
It was like he must have pissed her off. Now
what did he do?

Speaker 4 (38:19):
No, No, it was it was a comfort thing. No,
unfortunately for her, I'm glad she wasn't in there for
the next hundred feet when it started slipping. An eye, which.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Yeah, calls a million dollar highway was another road that
we took. It was paved the whole way. But what
did it What did it not have that every other
freeway has?

Speaker 4 (38:42):
It was railuard.

Speaker 7 (38:43):
It was yeah, yeah, you're right, no raiguard.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
No rail guards, so nothing to keep you in, and
all of a sudden it was like a three hundred
foot drop to nowhere and no nothing to.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
Keep you saw parts of that road were actually built
in that were like they had anchorage kicking out from
the side of the cliff to hold the road up.
You're basically driving a bridge. M h right. Yeah. Part
of that was that was a blast. Did you guys
see that picture I posted in discord to.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Day, Like yes, from from the plane everything was yeah, yeah,
so you do all.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
That driving it's a you know, an hour and a
half to drive from tell you right? Oh, and like
they're five miles aparts.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Yeah, yeah, see the craziest thing on that road was
to me, they built a bridge or a Yeah, they
built a like a overhyng for the cars that go
under a tunnel that that for helps avalanches and rock
slides just go over the road. He's like, you know
what nature's won here. We can see we build a tunnel,

(39:51):
just let it happen.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
True, yeah, very true.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
Oh we looked, h we look something up too, because
we were really curious, like why don't they have any
guardrails on this road at all? And actually they made
perfect sense when we figured it out. Uh jenuins researching
on of the drive back.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
They just want to let people die. No, okay with winter?

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Did they keep that road open for a lot of
the winter. It's for snow clearing. They just push it
over the edge. Yeah, the guardrails is gonna build up.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
Yeah. A lot of the a lot of the reason
why things are the way they are is due to
the snow they get in the winter. I mean, we
don't we don't have that problem in the summer, Like
why is that there? Why is this configured? Well, it's
because when it snows, you're not gonna you're not gonna
have that part of the road's not gonna be there,
or you're not gonna be able to get past it,
or something like that.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
So I've lived. I lived my whole life in Michigan.
I know how to do winter driving. I know how
to drive on ice. I would never in a million
years drive that road in the water. That takes another level.
I know. I know people out of Western used to that,
and you have chains and everything. But man our past.
I'll do the extra three hours driving and the heartbeat
I think.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
I think I'm in the same boat with there's some
snow or ice there. I'm a Texan. I am a
better Textan that can drive ish on the snow. But
mountain driving on the snow, I don't know you lived.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
I lived in Texas for a year. Everything shoves down
below thirty two.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
I have a picture somewhere. I gotta find it. It
threatened to snow later that afternoon or later that evening.
All the freeways were closed for so many accidents and traffic.
Everyone's going home at the same time in the afternoon
for a thread of snow at nine o'clock in the night,

(41:36):
picking the kids up, Go.

Speaker 7 (41:37):
Buy your milk, Go ahead, right, I'm just saying The
other thing I couldn't understand is all the roads have
a soft shoulder, like yes, the side of the road
where you're going to fall off and die is sloped
toward yes, danger, I just did. I could not understand that.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Yeah, yeah, I think that's gotta be a snow things.
Well water maybe it could be Yeah, it could be water.
Also yeah, yeah, that's true.

Speaker 4 (42:06):
Also. The other thing that I was internal and I
knew this from years ago, but have been so long
since I was in Colorado when they say left lane
for passing only.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
No, yeah, yep, she sh well, it was a it was.
It was a great trip. I really had a lot
of fun.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
I did.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
But Rob, I told I told my wife about your
popcorn story, and she does she's not buying it.

Speaker 5 (42:36):
She's not buying no.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
The frotein. She did, but you know, I didn't have
the link to the exact oral Reddenbaker you were. She
looked up Orval Reddenbocker microwave and it had like two grams. Yeah.
I told her that, Okay, save me the link because
she's not buying it. I'm like, we need to get
an air popper. She's like why, I'm like, well, there's

(42:59):
apparently a lot of protein in this one variety of popcorn.
Out of one hundred different fifty varieties of popcorn, you
can get one that has fruit. No, there's two, okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
The backstory here is Kyle brought amazing movie pop movie
quality popcorn for the trip, and he did not give
me a bag. But one one night, Robert go ahead
and Kyle.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
I brought all that for I know that.

Speaker 7 (43:31):
Right right, that is my favorite thing.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
But one night you put od bay what what was it.

Speaker 4 (43:41):
That?

Speaker 2 (43:42):
Mm hmm? I did not like it. I just want
Salt's a good thing. You killed the popcorn for me,
so I didn't eat it, but I did not, But
that popcorn was good that Kyle made it. It was amazing.
Next time, I know, I got the movie po corn
salt stairs and I'll bring that and I just keep

(44:03):
putting more and more salt on it. You can't be
enough salty on bipocorn.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
kJ five GKK Paul. He says, if you haven't done
it already, y'all should consider the Bear Tooth Highway Montana
Wyoming border. Amazing drive. We did that last year. Yeah,
we did that last year after leaving them, and it
was awesome. Yeah. After leaving Yellowstone, we drove up to
Montana to Billings, Montana and dropped off Frank and Rob.

(44:32):
We stayed in an Airbnb in Billings, Montana that night
or outside of Billings, Montana.

Speaker 4 (44:37):
That night.

Speaker 1 (44:37):
We toured the red Ox Factory, which is that's where
they're from, amazing made in the USA bags, and we
did the Bear Tooth Highway driving up to that point,
and we stopped and took some pictures and videos.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
So yeah, that's, uh my comment on that is, do
that on the way into Yellowstone, because if you do
that on the way out, it's gonna be underwhelming because
you've already seen tons of that, tons of rivers. So
it was beautiful. It was amazing on its own right,
but I was already at that point overwhelmed with nature,
so like, I can appreciate this, but right now it's

(45:11):
another valley. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:13):
I remember. I remember when I did the cross country
road trip about the Partland, and that was the first
time on with the Yellowstone. I had been hitting so
many national parks by that point. When I did the
Loopy Yells and I kept seeing waterfalls, I'm like, oh,
there's another one. Three hundred feet tall. Whatever. Nature overload
is definitely a thing like that.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Mm hmm. Good. Did Kyle some drop shift on the
highway curves? Izzo says, I don't know. I saw him
drinking sun drop. He didn't offer me any, but but
I did he did bring it.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Oh I ran out. It's I ran out.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
Oh boy, So I found out.

Speaker 7 (45:57):
Jason and I like every time we stopped at Prava
fifteen loves Yes going out and coming back, and almost
every time we stopped we would buy like three ghosts
each and so I think I'm still detoxing off that
I've got one right here.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
Actually we went through We went through two cases of
cherry coke zero.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
We did, surprise me.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
I thought two cases would have been enough for the.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Week, get twelve packs to twelve packs. But yeah, I
only drank. I drank one of those in the morning,
but that was it. I didn't drink one of those
throughout the resk of this.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
I drink one in the morning and one at lunch.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
Okay, but I don't mind out.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
That's a surprise what I ran out.

Speaker 1 (46:45):
I was like, oh yeah it was. It was the
last day we ran out though, so we didn't really.
I mean it sounded like you got enough, really, but
I hear you. Yeah, Love's Truck Stops has and Kyle
told me about this on our that was the Yellowstone trip.
If you download the Love's Truck Stop app, which is free,

(47:07):
it gives you a scan code and you scan that
at the pump you go to fillip gas gasoline regular gasoline,
not diesel, and it'll give you ten cents off per gallon.
And I think it says up to twenty five cents
off per gallon on diesel auto diesel, not truck diesel,
but auto diesel.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
If there's a difference, it's probably what pump you started a.

Speaker 1 (47:28):
Right, I think I think it has to do with
the pump. But I think that the pilot and Flying
J app now does the same thing. I saw something.
I stopped at a Flying J on a trip a
month or two ago, and they were advertising their app
now gives ten cents off a gallon. So if you
do road trips, get a truck stop app. Loves Truck

(47:50):
Stop or Flying J whichever one you like better, whichever
one's closer to you. I more prevalent in your area maybe, but.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
I used to prefer Flying j had Knobbis asked, Jason,
did electric make the trip? She did not.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
I did not take her. I don't typically take her
on Pixie was there, but Kyle has a hiker trailer.
I was staying in tent, and I don't typically take
her on tent camping trips because I don't have anywhere
to put her. I'm not leaving her in a hot car.
I'm just not going to do it. And I don't
have anywhere to put her when we go out to
eat or go to a brewery or something like that.

(48:26):
So I did not take her. She's going with me
in a couple of weeks to Huntsville, so she was
She's gonna make an appearance at Huntsville like she has
the last several years. But yeah, not this trip, unfortunately.

Speaker 2 (48:42):
Greg. How about BUCkies? Who stopped at BUCkies?

Speaker 1 (48:46):
I think on the way, Yeah, we went by them.
There was one, Uh, there was one in there's one
in Amarillo.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
One Fort Worth was one that was too close and
the Amarillo we putty much breeze through Emeralilla except the
on the way back, right, I.

Speaker 4 (49:06):
Think there're I was looking at the map. There actually
was one. There is one in Colorado, but it was
not on the routes that we were taking. It was
like towards bolder north of Denver.

Speaker 1 (49:16):
Mm yeah, yeah, I don't.

Speaker 4 (49:19):
You know.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
BUCkies is a love hate thing for me. I like BUCkies.
It's a great place to stop. But if it's like
really really crowded, I'm like, forget this. I'm I'm not
spending twenty minutes trying to get into in another twenty
minutes trying to get out of that place. And I've
done that before. The one in Madisonville, Texas one time
was so crowded. The line to get out of the
place was like five to seven cars deep at every exit.

(49:41):
And I'm like, and we went in there and did
our thing, and we got in line, and it took
us twenty minutes get out of the place. I'm like,
I'm not doing that again. Next time I see it
that crowded, I'm continuing down the road and I'll stop
at a truck stop or something.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
But the one is phil is.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
Go ahead one.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
The one in US Madison always.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
Yes, yeah, I just keep well. It's okay during the week.
If you're traveling on a holiday, weekend or on a Saturday,
forget it. But yeah, if you're going down like like
Emily and I will go down to Galveston a lot
of times on first thing Sunday morning or maybe Friday
morning something like that, it's not so bad then. But

(50:22):
uh but I always look I mean like, well, like
we'll exit the highway and look over there at the
at the traffic, and if this too crowded, I'm just like, Okay,
get back on the highwa Let's keep going, and we
don't stop. So it's a cool place, but it's not
worth spending an extra half hour just to just to
get in there.

Speaker 7 (50:36):
So interesting when you're driving night hours, right.

Speaker 2 (50:40):
Right, Interstellar Starman says, Bucky says, the cleanest restrooms they do.
But you know what do everyone's picking up the restroom
game because of BUCkies.

Speaker 1 (50:53):
I think you're right.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
A lot of restrooms are starting to look nicer and
cleaner and not just you know the old Phillip's sixty
six bathroom that is grungy and you gotta go through
the back to get to not any Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
Well, and the one in Madisonville, Texas is literally like
almost exactly eerily exactly halfway between here where I'm sitting
in our house in Galveston, so it's just a logical
stopping point. But it's the only thing that's out there,
and gases like ten to twenty cents a gallon higher
there than it is pretty much anywhere else you go

(51:30):
because they're the only thing out there, so they have
you know, captured audience and all that stuff. So it
really depends on if if you find a BUCkies that's
out in the middle of nowhere, their gas prices are
actually quite high. But anyway, it was definitely a fun trip.

(51:51):
I very much enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the
next one, whenever that might be. And but before that,
looking forward to Huntsville. What's everyone doing for Huntsville? Well, nobody,
nobody's doing anything driving. Are you driving, Mike? Oh yeah,
I drive from Okay. Well you used to drive everywhere

(52:15):
and then you kind of backed off on that, so
I wouldn't sure.

Speaker 4 (52:18):
Well, we would have taken the camper out to Colorado,
but it would have added two days on top of it. Yes,
driving with the grades and everything, it's just too much.
And we've got we got a pretty good ten setup,
so that's what we want. But yeah, you know, I
drive a hospital every year. It's only eight and a
half hours. I think eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (52:35):
Oh that's not okay. Yeah, you're actually closer than I am,
So okay, good. Uh, well we're I'm driving, I'm taking
the new I'm taking the new camper. I got to
call them tomorrow. I'm gonna try to go out, and
I have Wednesday through Sunday night reserved. Right now, I'm
gonna try it. I'm gonna call him tomorrow and see
if Tuesday night is open, which I'm sure it is,

(52:58):
and I'm gonna try to go a day early. I
know too, and a couple other guys are going on Monday.
Some of those guys are trying to make a whole
week long trip out of it, and I think that's
a great idea. But I'm gonna right now. I'm if
my plans work out, I'm gonna leave on Tuesday. It
takes about ten to eleven hours to get there, and

(53:18):
well maybe a little bit longer with a pulling an RV,
and I'll be there Tuesday dinnertime evening something like that.
Set up camp won't have a slide room on my camper,
so it'll be glorious just back in level it up
and we're done, so and then and then we'll have
Wednesday and Thursday to kind of chill Poe a day

(53:39):
on Friday, Hamfest, Saturday Sunday and go home. But yeah,
y'all lots more information to come about Huntsville on the
live stream, both next weekend, but especially two weekends from now, so.

Speaker 7 (53:56):
I'm looking forward to that. I think I'm flying out Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Did you guys book your flight yet?

Speaker 4 (54:03):
We're going to do not yet.

Speaker 7 (54:04):
Yeah, we're gonna do that tomorrow. We're gonna chat tomorrow.
And I still need that flight info that we talked
about Jason.

Speaker 1 (54:11):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'll get that. I'll text you with
that here in a minute, So that's not a problem.

Speaker 7 (54:18):
So looking forward to that. And I'm going to do
a four days and August session with t O on satellites,
so looking forward to doing that as well.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
Yeah, I was hoping Too would join us tonight because
I was gonna let him talk about that. But we'll
have him on the stream probably in two weeks when
all the you I'm going to invite all the YouTubers
who are coming to the Hamfest and he can kind
of lay out details of what he's doing with that
nice let's see, yep.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
But asking about the Friday hot look and cookout.

Speaker 1 (54:59):
Where uh, yeah, we're totally doing that, Kyle. Do you
want to talk to that or are you in a
bite where you can do that?

Speaker 4 (55:08):
Go ahead?

Speaker 3 (55:08):
Yeah, So Fday Friday Pavilion, we're gonna try and eat
between eleven and noon, and we're gonna cook eighty eight zero.
Last year we cooked for sixty and I think we
just had enough, but I think we got a little
bit more publicity this year. We're gonna cook for eighty.
If you guys want to bring a side to the

(55:30):
camp out, that would.

Speaker 4 (55:31):
Be great, And.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
All of.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
All of what we received go to the Teachers Institute
to help Steve good Game teach cam radio to teachers
who then go and teach that cam radio in classroom.
So last year we raised twenty four The gold this
year is three thousand dollars.

Speaker 4 (56:02):
So we can meet that.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
And what's the same famous side that's going to be
there again this year?

Speaker 1 (56:09):
Well, I don't know, since you didn't make it for
us at this camping trip.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
So.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
It wasn't made because it was a pain in the butt,
But it's going to be made this this year again
at the Huntsville Hamfest Friday. We are gonna well, I'm
gonna be there also helping Kyle, and I'll be making
my beans. And I think I did four pounds last
year of beans, and I'll be doing that again. I

(56:36):
might up at two six, we'll see, we'll see. But
when I'm cooking that four morning, I ain't holding any punches.
This is Frank's beans on the game.

Speaker 1 (56:47):
So I think if you, I think if you cook
them hotter, Frank, then less people will eat him and
they'll last longer. I can't seriously seriously, yeah, seriously do
it like to do it like you do it.

Speaker 3 (56:57):
So I suggest you come the cookout, you eat frisk beans,
and you schedule your next colo on Monday mornings.

Speaker 2 (57:11):
But yes, they will be holbynd arrows in them. So
I'll be cooking hobby arrows and and halapinos and onions
and garlic to get them ready for the beans. And
I think last year I cleared half that pavilion when
I was cooking.

Speaker 1 (57:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
But so we'll be there helping out too with the
whole thing. And if if Kyle call was a little gurgled,
all this is going to be on fundraised support for
a double teachers through Good Game and the Teachers Institute,
and all the money raised is going to go to

(57:52):
them and minus costs and if you come give us
a donation and help out with supporting kids in ham radio.

Speaker 1 (58:04):
Yeah, so the beginning of that that Kyle said, Yeah,
Kyle's audio is somewhat lacking because he's driving right now.
And trust me, the state of Colorado just like just
like last year with the state of Utah and Wyoming,
these these states absolutely hate cell phone signals. I'm like,
like like they either AT and T and Verizon pissed

(58:24):
them off or they pissed those companies off. I don't
know which one it is. But you guys that live
out there, sorry god that your cell service is so
terrible out there. But the last what three years, I
think we've had a cookout at the pavilion on Friday
and Kyla, yeah, somebody somebody asked about the blackstone or
is AFL bringing his blackstone again? Or do I need

(58:46):
to bring mine? Just let me know he's bringing his. Okay, Okay,
So so they we cooked for sixty or they cooked
I didn't cook. They cooked for sixty people last year,
Kyle said, they're gonna do eighty people this year. We
take donations for the food. If you can't donate, don't
feel like you can't come because we don't. It's not
like there's a checklist or something like that.

Speaker 4 (59:08):
We don't.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
We don't stamp your hand before you get in line
for hamburger. It's nothing like that. But but the last year,
last couple of years, we've gotten such good donations that
we take all that extra money and we donate it
to the Teachers Institute Steve Good Games Enterprise at the
a Dorl and Kyle said that last year we raised
about twenty four hundred dollars and this year our goal

(59:29):
is to raise an extra three thousand dollars. So this
is after all the expenses from buying the food and whatnot.
So we're trying to always trying to raise money for
His for a Good Games thing because it's a it's
a fantastic cause. But that's where we're going with that.
So yeah, y'all mark your calendars for the Friday, and
we're going to talk about this more next week and

(59:49):
certainly the week after on this live stream, So mark
your calendars for that for sure. But Friday at the
Pavilion in if you just go into the guard shack
and drive in the guards, I can say I'm here
for the ham Radio cookout. They're gonna be like, oh,
go over here. They know exactly what we're doing and
where to go. You pay have to pay five dollars

(01:00:10):
for a day pass unless you have an Alabama State
Park pass, and then come in there and join us
and we have a good time. It's a it's a
fun time has been for the last three or four years.

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
I think this is year five. Might be it was
it is funny one.

Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
This would be four. Then no, you're right, it is five.
It is five. Yeah, okay, because we did we do
We did a poda at the pavilion in twenty one.
I don't remember if we did a cookout or not.
Maybe we did. That was the year after that was
kind of like when COVID was starting to wind down
and they were up in the air whether they were
going to we're gonna even have the ham Fest at all.

(01:00:49):
But that was the first major ham Fest to happen
after COVID. So there were a lot of people there
that year. A lot of people there that year and
ever since then it's been an incredibly fun show. So
don I'm sorry you can't make it, buddy will Yeah
n five SKT says, let us know. Let those of
us who can't go know how we can help. Kyle
has a Venmo and a and a Zell and a

(01:01:12):
couple other maybe PayPal and we'll get that shared out
for sure on one of my live streams or elsewhere.
So we'll we'll take care of you guys on that,
no problem. Appreciate your support of that for sure. But awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:01:29):
One other thing, Jason, you called we had to sell companies.

Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
Yes, we need to.

Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
We need to call out Colorado across the board. Mesh
Tastic was oh yeah, like just not even run resisted.
I think we saw I think if we saw six
nodes we might be pushing it. It might not have

(01:01:53):
been six, but maybe it was six nodes over the
entire week, no matter what town we were in.

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
It was real.

Speaker 7 (01:02:01):
I mean, and here's a place that could really use meshastic.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Oh my goodness. Yes, I mean with all the with
with the poor self coverage and the and the mountain,
I mean, any whether even if you had excellent self coverage,
the mountain ranges. Man, Yeah, the Mountain ranges, I mean excellent,
excellent opportunity for repeaters and mesh tastic. They do have
a really cool repeater system in UH, I guess the

(01:02:27):
western part of Colorado, in the eastern part of Utah
that I was talking to a guy on simplex. He
told me the name. I don't remember the name right now,
but I was monitoring one of those repeaters and it
wasn't it wasn't really really active, but I did hear
activity out there at least once, maybe twice a day.

Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
I heard Colorado Connection.

Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
That might have been it. I don't remember right now.

Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Colorado Connection, I think is what it was called.

Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
It could have been, could be, could be, but it's something.
But he said it was a linked repeater system, and
he gave me the website to go to, and I
was driving. I don't remember what he said, but but
it was a good I mean, we had excellent repeater
coverage in the park that we were staying in and UH,
and I heard conversations periodically throughout the week, not as

(01:03:10):
much as I would have expected from a linked repeater system,
but it was being used. It was being used, so
that was kind of that was kind of fun too.
Rob W zero Rph in the chat, he says he's
in Colorado.

Speaker 6 (01:03:23):
What is meshtastic?

Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
I don't know if you're kiding or not. If you are,
if you're if you're actually serious about that question, go
check out. I've done a few videos on meshtastic. There's
there's some on my channel. But Rob Digital Rancher in
the chat, he has a lot of He has a
lot more videos than I do about mesh tastic. Go
look up Digital Rancher on YouTube and just search for
mech it, just search for meshtastic on YouTube. In this

(01:03:46):
in our space. Rob has a lot of videos out
there as well.

Speaker 7 (01:03:50):
Great little devices that are super cheap and give you
texting capability without any type of subscription or monthly bill.
Right right, Yeah, he uses all the devices as a
mesh Right, they all recognize each other, they all link up,
sync up, and you can pass messages across that entire network.

(01:04:14):
Her cool stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Yeah, free off grade text messaging. Rob says, no, he's
not serious, but it is rare there, Yeah, exactly. Yeah,
so he was being facetious, which yeah, I thought that's
what you were doing, but still would be fun. So
we're gonna Rob's gonna this, Rob right here on my
stream is going to work on a setup for us

(01:04:37):
to use at Huntsville for mesh Tastic. So maybe have
that going.

Speaker 7 (01:04:42):
Ye, folks aren't going to put something out, then we'll
put out some guidance. We'll put out some QR codes
so folks can all sync up, be on the same
page and be able to communicate.

Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
Right, are we gonna have to have a special build
again so that it doesn't repeat the number of hops?

Speaker 7 (01:05:01):
Well, if, like I said, if Meshtastic proper doesn't come
out with a build, which I don't think they will,
right because it's a smaller ham Fest, then we'll do
what we did in Florida, which is just provide some direction. Right,
this is how you set up your device. Here's a
QR code to get the right channels, and you know
we'll have great time with it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Yeah, that's good. KB five you two I in the chat.
Thank you for the super chat, Dave. Most of us
worked Dave numerous times this last week.

Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Dan says love living vicariously through radio this week envious
and Dave, I think you said earlier you're going to
be at Huntsville. Correct. I believe he represents uh Seed Studios,
who is a developer and designer of mesh Tastic devices.
The hardware. Probably not not big enough, okay, Okay, I

(01:06:00):
thought you said earlier you would be there, but okay, yeah,
it's not a it's not a it's not a huge show.
It's not as big as Orlando and and Dayton, but
it is an incredibly fun show. A lot of people there,
so a lot of a lot of us there anyway.

Speaker 7 (01:06:14):
So now I think David, yeah, Dave's going to be there,
but maybe Seeds. Yeah, Dave's going to be there. I
know he's going to be there.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Okay, Well, I don't know he was answering something else.
He might have been answering something else. Yeah, yeah, he
that That response came in kind of quick from when
I asked him, because there's like a thirty five second
delay between what you're what you're hearing me say right
now when when I actually said it. So good, okay, because.

Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
I think he even said he's going to be up
on the mountain Wednesday, so coming in on Tuesday, up
on the mountain Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
If I mistake, yeah, oh there he is. He says, yes, sir,
have our booth right next to icon.

Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
Good.

Speaker 1 (01:06:54):
So okay, so yeah, we're we've got more than one
conversation going on here. No worries, that's cool. Yeah, okay,
so yeah, Seed Studios mesh Tastic Hardware devices will be
represented at Huntsville this year, so some good stuff from them,
all right, guys, Well, thank you very much for joining
us tonight. We've been going for about an hour and
it's getting dark. Where Kyle is wherever he is driving

(01:07:18):
through Kansas, I think, and there's Pixie. I see Pixie there,
Pixy girl, there's she there, She is right there. I
hope you're not driving. I hope you're not doing seventy
five down the highway when you're doing that.

Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
Out right.

Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
She she always wanted to be on Kyle's lap when
we're driving around, even when a couple of times we
are going through those low passes or you know, guard rails.
Pixies right there, Let.

Speaker 7 (01:07:53):
Me on your lap, Let me on your lap.

Speaker 4 (01:07:54):
Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
M h Absolutely, yeah, she did. She did great this
last weekend. So good. Well, what's what's coming up on
everyone's channel? Rob, Kyle, Frank, Mike, and Jeff you guys
don't have channels necessarily, but we're looking forward to seeing
you guys in Huntsville. But what's coming up on y'alls channels?

Speaker 7 (01:08:18):
Rob's start, Yeah, I've got I'll be putting out some
stuff from the trip, but I am things have kind
of calmed down here. I had a little bit of
a wild month last month. Yeah, so things have calmed
down a bit. So I'm going to be getting back
to the satellite ground station. So that project is front

(01:08:39):
and center. There's a lot of folks that are showing
interest in that, and we have some other plans with
that as well. So I'm hoping to wrap that up
here in the next month, So keep your eyes out
for that, and you know, I'll be putting out some
Colorado stuff. But yeah, I'm excited to get back to
the ground station.

Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Good.

Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing that in the capacity.
We spoke about it earlier this week, so more to
come on that later. Cool Kyle. Kyle says he's doing
really good. So Kyle's got a second channel for those
of you who don't know, called Square Drop Adventures where
he talks about his hiker trailer and all this stuff.
He does with his hiker trailer and a lot of

(01:09:23):
stuff like trips like this, and that channel is doing
quite well. So what's coming up for you, Kyle?

Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
Yeah, So I got a couple of trips, so I'm
going to put on the square Drop channel. But on Thursday,
I'm going to do a live stream with Don w
a four MCM who if you've been watching my channel,
I put together a portable satellite rotator, yes, and he

(01:09:52):
is going to be on on Thursday to talk about
the kits and how to control it and every the kit.
And so that's Thursday night at eight pm Central.

Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
This Thursday. Okay, yeah, okay, speaking of that, our next
h r V chat live stream on my unplugged channel
will be a week from tonight. So fingers crossed Mark
is available next week. We're gonna have him on talk
about Huntsville Hampfest for an hour or so, and then

(01:10:27):
once we end that live stream will go live on
my unplug channel and talk about and I think what
we want to talk about this time is let's talk
about what everyone's bringing to Huntsville, because most of us
who are on the trip or who are on the
in that interview chat are bringing a camper of some
sort to Huntsville. So if you are in the chat
right now and you're planning to come to Huntsville and

(01:10:49):
bring a camper of any kind, I don't care what
kind it is, and you want to join us on
that live stream on my second channel next week, and
you are welcome to hit me up on Discord, send
me a DM, or hit me up on Discord something
like that. So that might be a kind of a
fun opportunity to talk about, you know, not just not

(01:11:09):
just talk about r vs, but say, hey, here's what
we're gonna do with them, and we're gonna be all
using them next week. Cool. I'm uh, did you guys
ever actually make any contacts with that set up this
this last week?

Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
No, Now, we we were trying to get it to
work with PC Sat thirty two and uh random some issues,
but we're going to resolve them on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Good, okay, excellent, true can't imagine how uh good? Well
the true true hand radio fashion. So do a Nuggets
episode that'll that'll get you going for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
Are you going to be doing a Nuggets episode coming
up here?

Speaker 4 (01:11:51):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna be on Nuggets I'm not sure
if it's tomorrow or when it is. T o headn't
reached back out to me about that, but yeah, we're
we've got something planned in the works and planned. So Kyle, Kyle, Frank,
what's coming up for you?

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Coming up? I think it's going to be Monday if
I finished editing it. I am working on it right now,
the final video for our Colorado trip. There's also a
playlist of all the videos I have created to this point,
and this final one will be on there. Also. I
also did a live stream where we live stream the
whole activation, and that's where he got the cut of

(01:12:25):
the other Frank yeah from But that activation was fun.
I saw Robert streaming, I was like, oh man, he's
going to stream. I think that was a good idea.
Then you went to your satellite pass, It's like, oh,
I'm taking it, and I just I'd let it run.
By the end of it, I was at eight percent
battery life.

Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
We were on top of a mountain for that one,
and it's amazing how much better the Internet works on
top of a mountain when you're not impeded by trees
and canyons. But yeah, that was that was a good stream.
You guys did a good job with that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
So the videos releases us driving out and then a
part one to the whole series, and I'm working on
part two. It was days three, four of the trip
and day five and six, so the five or six
is us driving back. I don't think it's going to
be its own episode. I might just throw it all
in there. We'll see how long it is. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
I think I've got five days worth of five separate
episodes day one, two, three, four, five, and I'm gonna
wait until they're all edited so I can put them
