Speaker 1 (00:00):
At the end of August, Hamshack Hotline will no longer
be a thing. But there's something new on the horizon
that was just announced and we're going to talk about
it today. So maybe about a month ago I got
this Hamshak Hotline public announcement of fond farewell to our

(00:22):
valued community. It's with the heavy heart. They will announce
the sunset of the Hamshak Hotline project, effective on August
twenty ninth, twenty twenty five, the end of this month.
I'm recording this video the first week of August, so
probably try to get it posted pretty quickly. What began
in twenty eighteen is a simple idea in the humble

(00:43):
closet of K one Wiz quickly grew into something none
of us could have imagined, an expansive global communications network
built by and four amateur radio operators. So if you
don't know what Hamshak Hotline is, and I'm sad to
say this, but I never actually got to use it.
We did some local comms with VoIP phones on an

(01:04):
Ardent network at a field day exercise one time several
years back, but I never actually set up Hamshak Hotline.
I have a phone it's right back there. You can't
see it right now. It's behind my cigar Humador. I
have a VoIP phone and I'd always wanted to set
that up, But you know, it's like I've got a
list of about one hundred and fifty things on the chalkboard,
and one hundred and forty of them I'll probably never

(01:26):
get to, and this is one of the ones that
I never quite got to. But whenever something like this,
whenever a project like this closes hand, radio operators are
usually pretty good about stepping up, taking the reins of
the old project and spinning up something new, maybe adding
to it, maybe improving upon it, something like that. So
I got this email from Jeff Inn eight EMA. So

(01:52):
thank you Jeff for sending this over to me. This
is right in my wheelhouse of things that I like
to talk about on this channel, and it says right
here at this ham Shack Hotline winds down for immediate
release on August first. That was just a couple of
days ago the time of this recording. Hamshack Hotline users
are invited to apply for services at ham'sover IP in

(02:12):
response to recent service changes and anticipated out is affecting
a Hamshack Hotline users. Hams over ip Inc. Is extending
a warm invitation to all amateur radio operators effective by
the transition to apply for service on Hams over ip
HOIP network. Now, I thought this was a new service,
and it sounds like when I read that statement, it

(02:33):
sounds like maybe this has been around a while. So
maybe maybe this has been a competitor to Hamshack Hotline. Brother,
I've never heard I've never heard of this, so to me,
this is new. Guess what. I don't know everything and
there's stuff that I've never heard of before, believe it
or not. As a volunteer driven nonprofit platform, Hams over
Ip was founded by Hams for Hams with a mission

(02:55):
to offer a reliable, secure, and modern VoIP network exclusively
for licened amateur radio operators worldwide. With robust infrastructure, active
adult development, and welcoming community, hip is proud to support
the continued growth of digital amateur communications. This is this
is a press release that was sent out. You guys
might have even seen this right now. As Hamshak Hotline

(03:18):
service winds down for many, Hams over Ip stands ready
to welcome operators who want to continue to join the
seamless radio over IP connections the Hamshack Hotline. As I
understand it was a VIIP phone over a private network
that was set up by Ham radio operators. I'm not
sure how radio plays into it. See this is what

(03:41):
I don't know because I've never used it. I'm not
sure how radio plays into it. Because you can do
it over Arden and Arden's done over Ham radio frequencies,
or it can be And that's that's really fun to do.
I must admit that was really fun to do. So
now they're saying this press release right here is saying
seamless radio over IP connection. So I wonder how they

(04:02):
integrate it into radio? Are they using it on VHF
on HF? Not sure? Hams over IPE because a nonprofit
organization committed to supporting spanning amageur radio VoIP technologies. Services
provided by Volta VULTR, located in multiple countries are designed

(04:22):
to provide low latency, optimized performance for worldwide users. So
we can go to hamsoverip dot com and we are
brought to this website here and again this is something
this is new to me. Twenty twenty two. Okay, so
the copyright down at the bottom of the website says
twenty twenty two. This has been around for a while,
and it says it's got K four AVG down here
at the bottom of the website as well. Let's scroll

(04:44):
down right there. See the bottom of the web page.
It shows all that. So here we go. Ham radio
operators from all over the world have volunteered their time, skills,
and resources to create a new and dynamic Ham radio
voiceover IP service for our Ham radio community. Featured searchable
BLF integration phone book up to ten endpoints per extension

(05:06):
IAX trunks. So in other words, it probably supports all
star SIP trunks, which is which is EchoLink, and other
things conference bridges for individuals, clubs and groups. We've got
to submit a ticket donate to the project on our
discord hams over IP phone Book hip wiki. Probably something

(05:27):
in here on how to get started? How do we
get started with this? So here is my issuance of
challenge to you guys. First of all, let me tell
you about Ham Radio prep. If you want to do

That's all I did. I read a press release. I'm like, oh,
so some Wain's taken over. I knew hamshak hotline was
shutting down. That notice came across my email about a

(06:50):
month ago, and I was gonna make a video on it.
And I've been traveling and been this, been that. But
this Ham's over IP thing, which looks like the websites
at least to three years old, I've never heard of it.
I didn't know there was. It sounds like they're a
competitor to Hamshat Hotline, which makes sense, and they're ready
to ready to go for everybody that's out there that's

(07:13):

Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
