Speaker 1 (00:08):
What is the Bible? What is it worth? Basic constructions
before leaving Earth. Life is full of struggles and it
is hard, but we are made in the image of God. Lord,
I have to appraise you to the moon and back.
I don't see anything wrong with that. It's mean you health,
it's me you care, it's mean you move, It's me
(00:29):
you group, it's me you touch. I love you so much.
Oh my Lord, I have to say thank you. Open
your eyes. What do you see? Have you inventor with
your life lately? Oh? Yeah, I have something else to say.
Welcome to HBES and dub jaide. Oh lordy Lordia to
God goes the glory. God goes the glory, the glory, glory. Yes, yes,
(01:02):
all right. Welcome to HBS and dw J podcast. I
am Jerry Joyce, your host. Our mission to provide the
knowledge that will train sisters in brothers in Christ, to
spread God's love and create disciples. Our vision to share
(01:22):
all resources that will aid in the knowledge necessary for
the building of God's kingdom. The adversary does not know
what to do with those who possess integrity. We are
not human beings on the spiritual journey, on the contract
we are spiritual beings on a human journey. With that
being said, we will open this Holy Bible study session
(01:43):
of with prayer. So please join in, Oh Holy eternal Father, Son,
Holy Spirit. It is once again that we're coming to
you as humble as we know. How, Dear Lord, help
us to understand that both belief and doubt are verbs,
and we can have intellectual doubts and intellectual unbelief, but
(02:03):
still retain our faith. True belief and faith requires us
to be a hero and a doer. To truly doubt
and disbelieve, we must have both thought and action. Lord,
do not let the enemy steal our victory. Praise the Lord,
and help us to stay in faith by rebuting and
(02:26):
replacing the negative thoughts. Thank you for your continued graces
and mercies. We pray these things the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
All right. Our scripture of the week is Matthew, chapter eleven,
verse twenty eight. King James version, all right, come unto me,
(02:50):
all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest. All right. Right here, Jesus had
made an extraordinary claim, and now he makes an extraordinary
offer to all who hear him. He claimed in the
previous verse to be the only one who knows God
(03:14):
the Father, and to be able to reveal the Father
to anyone he chooses, according to Matthew chapter eleven, verse
twenty five through twenty seven. Now he makes an invitation.
If you're struggling and tired, I can give you relief.
(03:37):
Here is the implication. Jesus's Jewish listeners were engaged in
a mighty struggle to know God the Father. Their religious
leaders had placed the normous burdens on them, according to
Matthew chapter twenty three, verse four, and they were laboring
to carry those burdens in hopes of being approved by God.
(04:01):
Jesus has just said that he can reveal his Father
to anyone, and he immediately offers rest to everyone who
is weighed down. All right. Now, Jesus is not talking
about physical rest necessarily, but the following verse will describe
it as a rest for the soul. All right. The
(04:25):
rest for the soul is a eternal rest, and the
path to the Father through Jesus is not one of
weary labor and heavy work. Jesus's early analogy about the
path to life being narrow and difficult, as found in
Matthew chapter seven, verse fourteen is entirely separately, separate and
(04:49):
speaking from a different perspective. All right now, from the
view of the world, following Christ means taking on difficult
circumstances and give up worldly pleasures. All right now, from
the view of eternity of salvation, Following Christ means giving
(05:09):
up the impossible task of carrying our own sin. All right.
Christ does not say it here, but the Gospel will
reveal that Jesus is offering to carry the burden and
do the work in order to leave those who come
to him, those who are yoked to him to the Father,
(05:34):
according to Matthew chapter eleven, verse thirty, as well as
John chapter six, verse twenty nine. All right now, our
topic today is God's Covenant, Part two discussion. In verse
five of this chapter, God signaled a new stage in
his relationship with Abram by changing his name to Abraham. Now,
(05:58):
this name is very similar to the Hebrew phrase meaning
father of a multitude, emphasizing that Abraham will be the
father of nations and that kings would come from him. Now,
God tells Abraham that his wife, Sarah's name is to
be changed to uh Sarah. So Sarrahi has been changed
(06:20):
to Sarah. Both names apparently means princes, but though in
the following verse, God We'll call her the mother of nations.
While this seems like a slight change, it marks a
significant new season in God's work in and through Sarah
(06:41):
as well. This change would be especially amazing to Abraham,
who will laugh out loud at the suggestion of Sarah
given birth in uh chapter Genesis, chapter seventeen, verse seventeen
and Uh, as I said before, this change would be
(07:04):
especially amazing to Abraham, who will laugh out loud at
the suggestion of Sarah given birth. A right now later,
during a significant encounter, God would change the name of
Abraham and Ceah's grandson through Isaac, he would be renamed
(07:30):
from Jacob to Israel. According to Genesis, chapter thirty two,
verse twenty eight. All right, now, this is the first
time the text reveals that Sarah is the one through
whom God would keep his covenant promise to make Abraham
into a great nation. In chapter sixteen, Sarah and Abraham
(07:51):
seem to have decided that the opportunity for her to
birth children to him had passed. Instead, she would have
a child with him through her sleeve. Hey, God, that
boy Ishmael is now thirteen years old. God reveals that
Sarah will in fact give birth to a son of
(08:12):
her own with Abraham, a notion Abraham and Sarah had
completely abandoned. This assumption was so strong in Abraham's mind
that he will literally fall down doing at the suggestion
to fall down laughing at the suggestion that Sarah would
(08:34):
be known as the mother of nations. Right now, compared
to modern times, it seems the people of Abraham's era
lived slightly longer lives. But even then, one hundred year
old men did not have babies with ninety year old women.
The very very idea of this was what it was
(08:58):
laughable right now. It's notable that Abraham's disbelieving comment is
that directed to himself. Abraham is very directly expressing doubt
that God could even do or will follow through on
this particular declaration. So his doubt is that God can
(09:24):
or will. His doubt is that God can or will
follow through one this particular declaration. But I don't understand
why he would think that. But it's not that Abraham
had stopped believing that God would keep his promise. It's
not like that, but it's I don't know, he just
(09:49):
didn't expect those offspring to come through Seah put it
like that, all right, So it's not that he stopped
believing that God would keep his promise to give him
countless offspring. He just his mind couldn't see how that
would happen, you know, through several who's ninety years old
(10:09):
and him being a hundred so and he just then well,
you know, they waited a full decade between receiving the
promise and deciding that God must mean for a child
to come through another woman. And this is all in
accordance to Genesis chapter sixteen, verses one and two. Now
(10:30):
that had worked, according to Abraham and his wife, they
did a child did will appear or be born through Hagard,
because she birthed Ishmael. And at this time Ishmael is
now thirteen years old according to Genesis chapter sixteen, verse sixteen.
All right, Now, God told Haygard that Ishmael's offspring would
(10:53):
be so numerous as to be uncountable in Genesis chapter sixteen,
verses ten through twelve. So with that being said, apparently
Abraham seems to have decided that Ishmael's brother was God's
plan to fulfill his promise. It was not God said
Sarah would become the mother of nations. Not HEYGD. Abraham laughed,
(11:20):
and then in the following verse protested. This in part
explains the specific name God chooses his for this son
of promise. Who is Isaac? And Isaac means he laughs.
That's what Isaac means, all right. Abraham could picture it all.
(11:44):
He could see Ismael, his son, becoming the nations God
had promised, receiving God's blessings, fulfilling God's plan. If only
Abraham said to God, if only Ishmael could live under
your blessing. God will respond to Abraham in a gracious
(12:05):
example of gentle correction. God will not reply with a no,
but with a yes. But God's response is gentle, but
it is not without some level of irony in it.
God will declare a name for this soon to be sun,
one which will forever remind Abraham of his reaction. The boy,
(12:32):
all right, wait for it. The boy is to be
named Isaac, which literally means what he laughs. All right. Now.
It was with Isaac in his offspring that God would
establish his everlasting covenant Sarah too will laugh at the
(12:56):
idea in Genesis chapter eighteen, verse twelve, and their son's
name will serve as a permanent reminder of how God
can fulfill promises which our limited experience says are impossible.
According to Mark, chapter ten, verse twenty seven, Yep, that's that,
(13:18):
and uh, what we're gonna do now, We're gonna go
ahead and move on to our next section. All right,
do you have the complexion for the protection? It is
now time for our life reflection. How could Abraham doubt God?
(13:40):
It seemed incredible that he has several in their advanced
years could have a child. Abraham, the man God considered
righteous because of his faith, had trouble believing God's promise
to him. Despite his doubts, However, Abraham followed God's commands.
Even people of great faith may have doubts. When God
(14:04):
seems to want the impossible and you begin to doubt
his leading, be like Abraham. Focus on God's commitment to
fulfill his promises to you, and then follow through and
complete the task He has given you. Okay, check this

It's now time to answer comments from HBS and dwch's website.
(15:38):
Uh huh, let's go ahead. We're gonna start off with
Angel Seed. They can scream all you want. Let's start
off with Angel C nine O three. Angel C nine
O three says Wow, I've never thought that Abraham was
the father or was it father before even having children
of his own. Indeed, he was foretold that his descendants
(16:03):
would be like the stars of the sky, and he believed,
but his wife couldn't see. In the long run, and
Ishmael came over. It's true that what is decided in
the spiritual world will happen, even if it's late by
human standards. Alrighty well, Hello Angel cy nine O three.
(16:26):
Thanks for continuing to stop by the HBS and DWJ
website turned podcast to comment on additional episodes. Your comments
are greatly appreciated and blessings my friend. Alright, let's move
it along to Max Sud. Max Sud says, hi, there,
thank you for sharing your thoughts on biblical history and
(16:48):
delving into the complexities of faith, promise, and obedience. Your
detailed examination of the Covenant and its implications, both historically
and theolog the oh, the allogically offers a rich perspective.
One question that arises from your post is how the
(17:12):
concept of covenant as seen with Abraham can be understood
and applied in modern context in a world vastly different
from Abraham's. How do we interpret the and integrate the
idea of a covenant with God and our personal and
collective spiritual journeys. Hmmmm. Thank you for your dedication and
(17:35):
for explaining these deep and endearing stories. Best regards, Max Sud.
All Right, Hello again there, Max Sud, Thanks for stopping
by and commenting on God's Covenant. Father of a multitude
The Bible is a covenant book, and to be read well,
it needs to be read covenantly. All right, Have you
(17:59):
ever notice that covenant is written on the title pages
of the two parts of your Bible? They read you're
ready for me to tell you? They read Old Testament
and New Testament. God's covenants intaeil, benefits and responsibilities, privileges
(18:25):
and duties, and in God's sovereign good and wise design,
these things are meant to be inseparably intermingled, so that
we delight in duty. And duty is a delight, all right.
Now it is my food to do the will of
(18:45):
him who sent me, Jesus said, and so his disciples
do too. Now it is the design of all God's
commands to bless us, and they are all for His
glory and our own good. So with that being said,
blessings my friend. All right, now, let's move it along
to Brian. Brian says, Wow, what a comprehensive blog God's covering.
(19:11):

on God. Many people have a Bible, but not many
take the time to read and learn from its teachings.
Many people will find this an invaluable site of reference
good luck with your project, and hope we all have

their own ideas about God. However, I am sharing the
good news because of my own experiences and personal relationship
(20:41):
with God. My faith in God is how I survive
each and every day, and you are most certainly welcome
for the shedding of light on these enduring stories. So
thank you for commenting and blessings my friend. All right,

(21:01):
I grew up as a Christian and I still remember
learning the Ten Commandments. I really liked them and think
that they should be embraced by more people. I also
know quite a few Christians and most of them are
good people. I think reading the Bible it's a smart move.
And one of my Christian friends told me people that
(21:24):
read the Bible or blessed. Thank you, have a good day. Alright,
