Blessings to all,
Welcome again, I am Jerry, this portion of our study covers:

Ishmael's Inheritance - Because Of Abraham

God holds to the promise that He has made. As a sign of keeping this covenant, God had a new requirement for Abraham. He and every male of his household, born or bought, and every male in every generation to come, must be circumcised. This is the ritual removal of the foreskin. Those who were not circumcised would not be included in this covenant between God and Abraham's people.

That's already a lot of change for one meeting, but God is not done yet. He truly surprises Abraham, telling him that Sarai's name must also be changed. She will now be known as Sarah, and she and Abraham would have a son after all. In reverence, or gratitude, or pure surprise, or perhaps all three, Abraham falls facedown and laughs. He's shocked at the mere suggestion of Sarah conceiving and bearing a child.

Then Abraham has another thought: What about Ishmael?

God has already given a promise of blessing on Ishmael, spoken to his mother Hagar (Genesis 16:10–12). Here, though God will again promise to bless Ishmael abundantly, the covenant promises between God and Abraham will not pass through Ishmael. Instead, they will pass to Isaac, Abraham's yet-to-be conceived son with Sarah. That son will have been born by this time the following year.

With that, God concludes His revelations and "leaves," at least symbolically giving Abraham an opportunity to make a decision.  Abraham's head must have been spinning, but he did not hesitate to begin to obey God. That very day, he went home and circumcised himself, Ishmael, and the hundreds of other males in his large company. Abraham's immediate obedience is further evidence that he was choosing to trust the Lord and to take Him at His word.

It is time to open our hearts, minds, and souls to the Word Of GOD.

Our scripture will be coming from:

Genesis 17:20-27 KJV
[20] And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
[21] But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
[22] And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
[23] And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.
[24] And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
[25] And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
[26] In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.
[27] And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
What do you see?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Have you inventor with your life lately?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Yeah, I have something else to say. Welcome to HBES
and D Double Jade. Oh lordy lordy to God goes
the glory. God goes the glory, the glory, glory. Alright, alright,
Welcome to HBSN DWJ. I am your host, Jerry Joyce.

(01:10):
Our mission to provide the knowledge that will train sisters
and brothers in Christ, to spread God's love and to
create disciples. Our vision to share all resources that will
aid in the knowledge necessary for the building of God's kingdom.
The adversary does not know what to do with those
who possess integrity. We are not human beings on a

(01:34):
spiritual journey or the contrary, We are spiritual beings on
a human journey. Now, with that being said, we will
open up this Holy Bible study session with prayer. So
please join in, Oh, Holy eternal Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

(01:54):
It is once again that we coming to you, as
humble as we know how, Lord, give us open ears,
a quiet mind, a receptive heart, and a willingness to obey.
We commit before you our desire to acquire a lifelong
habit of spiritual response. Thank you for your continued graces

(02:16):
and mercies. We pray these things in the precious name
of Jesus Christ a man. Yes, Lord, Yes, Lord. Time
for today's giggle box. All right? The question can a

(02:39):
kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building? Answer? Of course,
why the Empire State Building cannot jump at all?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Do you know what time it tells? Do you know
what time you tea?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
It is?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
It is time for oh all right? According to Ethics
Unwrapped mccomb's School of Business the University of Texas at Austin,
this information introduces the behavior of ethics bias known as

(03:44):
obedience to authority. All right, Now, obedience to authority describes
our tendency to please authority. Figures, we may place too
much emphasis on that goal and consciously or sub consciously
subordinate the uh uh goal of acting ethic ethically. Now,

(04:08):
we all need to monitor ourselves to ensure that we
are not unduly suspending our own independent ethical judgment in
order to please our superiors. If students are not aware
of this vulnerability, they cannot guard against it. Now many
white collar criminals trace their downfall to an excessive obedience

(04:29):
to authority. Many successful students are pleasers, so they can
understand how strong the motive to please authority can be. Now.
The Milgram experiment offers a glimpse into the effects of
obedience and authority. The effects of obedience to authority alright.

(04:50):
Psychologists Stanley Milgram studied whether Americans might be as obedient
to authority as Germans seem to be under Hitler. The
question addressed was whether subjects would deliver apparently painful electric
shocks to another person who had missed a question in
an apparent test of whether negative reinforcement through electric shocks

(05:13):
would improve memory, just because someone in a white lab
coat told them to do so. Although people predicted before
the experiment that very few American subjects would show excessive
obedience to authority in actuality, As Professor Francesca Geno writes,

(05:35):
all of Milgram's participants, who were well adjusted, well intentioned
people delivered electric shocks to victims who seemingly were in
great pain, complaining of heart problems, or even apparently unconscious.
Over sixty percent of participants delivered the maximum shock. Ooh,

(05:59):
perhaps this should not have been too surprising. The pleasure
centers of our brains light up when we please authority.
We are trained from childhood to please authority figures, parents, teachers,
and police officers. Law and order are generally good things,

(06:19):
so some level of obedience to authority is definitely a
good thing. But if people go too far and suspect
their own independent ethical judgment, either consciously or unconsciously, they
are dropping the ball. Employers, we argue, pay employees for

(06:42):
their brains, their education and training, and their judgment. Employers
are short changed if employees do not use their best
strategic judgment, their best operational judgment, and their best moral judgment,

(07:03):
because errors in any of these three areas can be
quite costly change chain. Now. The case study about this
information stangle and the Holocaust explores the extreme example of
obedience to authority in which Nazi officer France Stangele, who
was responsible for the killing of nearly one million Jews,

(07:27):
claimed he was simply following orders. Behavioral ethics draws upon
behave for your behavioral psychology, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and
related disciplines to determine how and why people make the

(07:51):
ethical and unethical decisions that they do. Much behavioral ethics
research addresses the question of why good people do bad things.
All right, blessings to all, Welcome again, I am Jerry.
This portion of our study covers Ishmael's inheritance because of Abraham.

(08:18):
All right, God holds to the promise that he has made.
As a sign of keeping this covenant. God had a
new requirement for Abraham. He and every male of his
household born or bought in, every male in every generation
to come, must be circumcised. All right now. This is

(08:43):
the ritual removal of the foreskin, and those who were
not circumcised would not be included in the covenant between
God and Abraham's people. All right now, All that's already
a lot of change for one meeting. But God is

(09:03):
not done yet. He truly surprises Abraham, telling him that
Sarahi's name must be also be changed. She will now
be known as Sarah, and she and Abraham will have
his son after all. In reverence or gratitude, or pure surprise,
or perhaps all three, Abraham falls face down and lass

(09:28):
he shocked at the mere suggestion of Sarah conceiving and
bearing a child. Then Abraham has another thought, what about Ishmael.
God has already given a promise of blessing on Ishmael
spoken to his mother Hagard in Genesis chapter sixteen, verses

(09:49):
ten through twelve. Here, though God will again promise to
bless Ishmael abundantly, the covenant promises between God and Abraham
will not passed through Ishmael. Instead, they were passed to Isaac,
Abraham's yet to be conceived son. With Sarah. That son

(10:10):
would have been born by this time the following year.
With that, God concludes his revelations and leaves, at least
symbolically given Abraham an opportunity to make a decision. And
let me add to that, with the Son of Promise

(10:33):
being born, he would have had to come after the circumcision,
so that the he would have been a whole part
of the covenant, of the whole covenant promise. So he
couldn't come before Abraham got circumcised, because that wouldn't have
completed the covenant. So I need to throw that in

(10:55):
there too, uh, while it's on my mind. All right now,
Abraham's head must have been spending from all of this
information he just received, but he did not hesitate to
begin to obey God. All right. Now, that very day
he went home and he circumcised himself, Ishmael, and the

(11:19):
hundreds of other males in his large company. All right,
Abraham's immediate obedience is further evidence that he was choosing
to trust the Lord and to take him at his word.
All right, it is now time to open our hearts, minds,

(11:39):
and souls to the word of God, and our scripture
will be coming from Genesis chapter seventeen through twenty staying
corrected Genesis chapter seventeen, verses twenty through twenty seven. That is,
Genesis chapter seventeen, verses twenty through twenty seven. Let's read.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee Behold, I
have blessed him and will make him fruitful and will
multiply him exceedingly twelve princes shall he beget, and I
will make him a great nation. But my covenant will
I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto THEE
at this set time in the next year.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
And he left off talking with him, and God went
up from Abraham. And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and
all that were born in his house, and all that
were bought with his money, every male among the men
of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin
in the self same day, as God had said unto him.

(12:50):
And Abraham was ninety years old and nine when he
was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. And Ishmael
his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised
in the flesh of his foreskin in the self. Same
day was Abraham circumcised, And Ishmail his son, and all
the men of his house, born in the house and

(13:11):
bought with money of the stranger were circumcised with him.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
All right, now we have covered our versus. It is
now time for our first breakdown, starting with Genesis, chapter seventeen,
verse twenty. And as for Ishmael, I have heard THEE behold,

(13:41):
I have blessed him and will make him fruitful, and
will multiply him exceedingly. Twelve princes shall he beget, and
I will make him a great nation. All right now,
the Lord would bless Ishmael, but not as in regards
to the covenant. All right now, the blessings here pronounced

(14:02):
was not because of Ishmael, but because of Abraham, and
Uh Abraham alone, alright now this versus God's yes to
Abraham's apparently uh anguished request. Now, Abraham desires that his
son Ishmael might live under God's blessing. And Uh Abraham
may have meant he wanted Ishmael to be the son

(14:24):
of God's covenant promise. But this certainly seems to be
what he expected. But God made it clear in the
previous verse that uh that was not to be Isaac
would receive that blessing. And Uh, like I had said before,
Isaac is the one who has to pass through the

(14:46):
uh circumcised covenant. Uh so to speak, you know, because
Abraham wasn't circumcised when Ishmael was born. So there and
he so he would to he you can't have become
He couldn't have been part of the covenant. Because he
was Uh. He had passed through before the covenant was established,

(15:09):
so and there was no circumcision to complete that part
of the covenant. So Isaac would have to be the
one to receive this promise. All right. Now, however, God
acknowledges that he has heard Abraham's request for Ishmael, whose

(15:30):
name means God hears. All right, that's what Ishmael's name means,
God hears. That's remember if you remember uh in one
of our other episodes. Hey, God named Ishmael that because
God has heard her and when she took off running

(15:51):
from Sarah Rahi. All right, but anyways, getting back to this,
I don't want to get off subject. God repeats what
he had been promised to hate. God speaking of in
Genesis chapter sixteen, verses ten through twelve, that Ishmael's offspring
would be numerous. So he also told Haygard back then

(16:15):
that Ishmael's offspring would be numerous. And God adds that
Ishmael will father twelve princes and become a great nation.
So Ishmael then is to be greatly blessed, though in
merely human terms, his offspring, divided into twelve princes, will

(16:40):
become a great nation, but they will not become the
covenant people of God. Isaac's offspring, also destined to be
divided into twelve tribes, will become God's own nation. All right, now,
let's move it along to Genesis chapter seventeen, verse twenty one.
But my covenant will I established worth issen which SARAHI,

(17:03):
which sir Rah, Sarah Rah shall bear unto thee at
this set time in the next year. So now they
know when the child will be born. So here God
concludes his revelations to the newly renamed Abraham for this encounter.
Unlike earlier visits from God, with their grand, unconditional promises

(17:25):
and few details, God's words to Abraham, who is now
ninety nine years old, have been overwhelmedly specific. In addition
to changing Abraham's name, God has commanded Abraham to walk
before him and to be blameless. He has commanded Abraham
to circumcize himself and all the males in his household.

(17:46):
God has also changed Sara Rai's name to Sarah Rah,
revealing that she will bury son, and that son would
be the one whom God's covenant promises will pass. All right, Ishmael,
who is now thirteen years old, would be greatly blessed,
but his his will not be of the covenant people

(18:07):
of God. So finally, in this verse, God reveals the
for the first time a timeline for his promises. Alright,
let's see, uh with that. With that being said, by
this time, uh, you know, according to this time period,
by a year from that time, a boy named Isaac

(18:29):
would be born to Abraham and several Alright now, one
can only imagine how much of Abraham's head or how
much Abraham's head must have been spending from all of
that information. But we gonna move along to Genesis chapter seventeen,
verse twenty two. And he left off talking with him,

(18:49):
and God went up from Abraham. Alright, communion with the
Lord is the most profitable exercise that there is. Now
God's relatively linked the encounter with Abraham in here. All right, Now,
for the first time, we're told about God's departure from
one of these meetings, and he went up from Abraham.
Perhaps this detail is included to emphasize that God's appearance

(19:13):
to Abraham really happened. It wasn't something Abraham imagined or
it came to him in a dream. It act. So
in actuality, God came, God spoke, God left. The words
here suggested that the idea of Abraham being left with
a choice, will he believe, trust, and obey with those

(19:34):
choices and again on his own Abraham must believe and
act on what God has said, So he does so
in the following verses. And this willingness to follow God's
instruction and do so immediately is a key aspect of
Abraham's character. So this is the attitude which leads to

(19:59):
a Abraham being a model of godly faith, trusting obedience
in the faith of doubt. And we can find this
information in Romans chapter four, verse three. Now that compliance
will be severely tested later on when God gives an unimaginable,
difficult command to Abraham. If you know what I mean

(20:20):
in Genesis chapter twenty two, verse two. Ooh, why what
is it gonna feel from that? Well, the end result
of that event is one of the Bible's greatest examples
of faith. Hebrews chapter eleven, verses seventeen through nineteen. My

(20:40):
where is the lamb? God will provide?

Speaker 2 (20:43):
All right?

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Now, we're gonna move on to Genesis chapter seventeen, verse
twenty three and Abraham took Ismael, his son, and all
that were born in his house, and all that were
bought with his money, every mail among the men of
Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in

(21:04):
the self same day, as God had said unto him. Now,
the obedience of Abraham in circumcising the entirety of his
house servants and all should be a lesson to us,
or Abraham immediately demonstrates his faith in God and who
actually appeared to him by obeying God's command. Now, Abraham

(21:28):
kept his part of the covenant God had initiated by
circumcising himself and every male in his extensive household. He
did so on the very day God appeared to him,
starting with Ishmael, his thirteen year old son. Now, circumcision
was not unheard of in that Erarobut this does not

(21:48):
change the magnitude of Abraham's immediate obedience. Circumcision involves removing
the foreskin from the penis, which is a painful, and
one would assume all but we're not told anything of
the reaction to Abraham's requirement for all the men and
boys under his care. Abraham overcame whatever resistance may have

(22:11):
been presented at that time and how it presented itself
to obey the command of the Lord. Now, it's worth
noting that those who would not have who would have
resisted this command entirely, they had an option of sorts

(22:31):
to be cut off or separated from their family of
abrahams or I mean, you know, you can see this
information in Genesis chapter seventeen, verse twenty, verse fourteen. Now
you know, they could either be cut off literally or
cut off, cut off, separated, you know. So the choice

(22:53):
was theirs. Oh, but we're gonna move home to Genesis
chapter seventeen, verse twenty four And Abraham was years old,
ninety years old and nine when he was circumcised in
the flesh of his foreskins. So ninety plus nine is
ninety nine years old, all right. Circumcision in the badge

(23:16):
of the covenant which God has made with Abraham. All right,
So circumcision is the badge of the covenant which God
has made with Abraham. Now, someone would ask why was
Ishmael included? Hasn't God problems that Ismael is going to
be a great nation? Also? Okay, then that's why he

(23:39):
was included. And he is included in it in that sense.
But he is not the one whom God had promised
to Abraham at the beginning. Okay, he was just a
product of impatience. Let's see. Now he is not to

(23:59):
be the far of the nation that God will use
and the nation through which the Messiah will come. That's
Isaac's job.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Now this verse repeats again that Abraham was ninety nine
years old on the day God appeared to him and
he was circumcised. Perhaps he was the oldest man to
ever have been circumcised, at least at that time.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
All right.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Now, God's plan for the future generations of Abramham's offspring
was to use this ritual as a sign of the
covenant with God, to be performed when they were eight
days old, found in Genesis, chapter seventeen, verse twelve. Circumcision,
of course, is the removing of the foreskin from the penis,
and this symbolically represents many aspects of our work relationship

(24:47):
to God. It requires setting aside or removing a naturally
born part, just as I was sin for desires need
to be set aside in favor of following God. Now
the area affected is more than less circular, which is
a common symbol of eternity and constancy. All right, now,

(25:12):
this covenant was meant to be a permanent practice by Israel.
It also represents the eternal and unchanging nature of God. Likewise,
this ritual affects the organ of reproduction, signifying the passion
of truth from generation to generation. In fact, circumcision creates

(25:32):
a ring around the point through which passes the man's
contribution to reproduction. Circumcision is not required for believers in Christ,
even though it is still part of God's unchanging covenant
with the Nation of Israel. In fact, in the New

(25:54):
Testament era, the term circumcision will become shorthand and for
those who think their good deeds can earn them salvation.
And you can read all about that in Relations chapter five,
verses one through six. So don't go getting circumcisions if
you don't have one, thinking that oh this is gonna

(26:17):
get me there or no, it don't work that way.
And plus, that covenant was with the nation of Israel.
It wasn't with us. You know, unless you are part
of the Nation of Israel, that that covenant is was
for your people, you know, not for us gentiles. All

(26:38):
right now, moving on to Genesis chapter seventeen, verse twenty five,
and Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he
was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. Even though
Ishmael was circumcised, he who was born after the flesh,
was by his natural birth a rebel, even though he

(27:03):
may enter in an outward covenant. Ishmael, at the age
of thirteen, was circumcised on this same Momentus day in
the life of Abram and all his household. Now, God
had made it clear to Abraham that Ishmael, though he
would be greatly blessed, would not be the child through

(27:26):
whom the covenant promises will pass. All right, and now,
with this information, still as a male in Abraham's household,
Ishmael must be circumcised alone with all the other men
and boys. Right now. God's prior instructions were very specific.

(27:47):
Those who were not circumcised could not be part of
the promised people, according to Genesis chapter seventeen, verse fourteen. Now,
let's move it along to Genesis chapter seventeen, verse twenty six.
In the self same day was Abraham circumcised and Ishmael
his son. Two men were circumcised.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
By that.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Right, both men entered the covenant. However, only one of
the men, Abraham, was saved. Now this verse repeats once
more that this day of the circumcision of all the
males of Abraham's extensive household was the very same day
that God appeared to Abraham and told him to do so.

(28:30):
Abraham demonstrated his faith in God and his eagerness to
keep the covenant with God by obeying the command immediately. Now,
this willingness to obey God and trust and faith is
a hallmark of the ancient patriarchs, such as Abraham in
Romans chapter four, verse three, and nor in Genesis chapter six,

(28:53):
verse twenty two. In fact, Abraham's trust in God would
make him a prime example of faith used in the
New Testament Hebrews chapter eleven, verses seventeen through nineteen. While
circumcision was practicing other cultures for various reasons, this particular
meaning was specific to Israel, and it'll all most certainly

(29:17):
caused a stir within Abraham's family, can you imagine? I mean?
Even so, Abraham's immediate obedience is a recurring point in
this chapter, so he clearly wasted no time or argument
on obeying God. Alright, now, let's move it along to last,
but not least, Jenesis chapter seventeen, verse twenty seven. And

(29:40):
all the men of his house, born in his house
and bought with money of the stranger, was circumcised with him. Now,
this one passage tells us that every single man in
that house of Abraham was saved, whether servant, slaves, or family.
That is, if they believe. Now the epistles to the Romans, UH,

(30:03):
to the Galatians, and to the Collagas teachers that Christians
are circumcised in the cross of Christ. All right, that
made you baptized into the death of Christ and raised
back up out of the water in the resurrection of Christ,
all of which circumcision was a type.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
So when you went down, you was you was getting
rid of the of the old. When we would come
back up from out of the water, that's when we
we we got the newness of Christ all over us. Okay.
Now this final verse of UH Genesis chapter seventeen, repeat
one more once more for emphasis, that Abraham obeyed God's

(30:49):
command completely, So every d meaning that every single mail
in his household, including these born in the household, and
those purchase of slaves was circumcised right along with Abraham
and Ishmael on the very day God had given that instruction.
Now we're not told what Abraham felt about all God

(31:09):
had revealed to him, but Abraham's full and unhesitating obedience
reveals his full faith in the Lord. So one reason
for this repeated emphasis might be the very nature of
the command to circumcize every male, which meant cutting off
the foreskin of the penis. Now, the natural reaction one

(31:30):
might expect, at least from most men, is a desire
to hey, wait, wait a minute, you know, hang on,
let's think about this first. But instead, Abraham's pointed obedience
to God the very same day demonstrates how seriously he
took his relationship with God. All right, now, how many

(31:53):
men wear in Abraham's household, We can't know that for sure,
but it likely included hundreds of more, especially uh, when
we you know, knowing that Abraham was extremely wealthy, and
years earlier, when Lot had been captured by foreign invaders,
Abraham was able to raise an army of thirty three
hundred and eighteen trained men born in his household to

(32:14):
go on that rescue mission. So we must imagine that
the household consisted of many more men by this time,
and even more born and acquired since then, you know,
may bought you know, a whole lot born, and a
lot more probably was bought with money. So that makes
for a significant number of UH circumcisions in the single

(32:38):
in a single day, with very little warning to those men.
They iman circumcising you can get over here, you know.
But Abraham exercises a third hand overcame whatever resistance or
objections may have been raised in order to fully obey
the Lord. So you know, you know, that's that's let's see.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
We'll just move on.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Do you have their complexion for the protection? It is
now time for our life reflection. Alright, God did not
forget Ishmael. Although he was not to be Abraham's heir,
he would also be the father of a great nation.
Regardless of your circumstances, God has not forgotten you. So

(33:31):
this is a message to us. All obey him and
trust him. Leust obey God and trust in his plan,
and he won't forget us either. Alright now, but for now,
that is what the uh e Ishmael's inheritance because of
Abraham ham is all about alright. Well, now, with that

(33:53):
being said, we will go hout cad and close out
with prayer. Heavenly Father Son, Holy Sir, thank you for
blessing us with another building blood from this holy Bible
study session. Lord, we come before your throne of grace
asking that you would give us wisdom of discernment. We

(34:15):
ask that you heal everything in us that keeps us
from moving forward In you. Our heart's desire is to
walk faithfully in obedience to who and what you have
caused us.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
To be and do.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
In You, we pray that your perfect will and your
way be done in our life. Touch our children, Lord,
and help us to raise them in the way that
they should go, so that when they grow older, they
will not depart from it. In your son Jesus's name,
we pray, believing by faith it is already done. Thank

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
