Hi Friends, Welcome back to theHippo Campus Clubhouse, a fun and inclusive,
sel based storytelling podcast for kids.Aaron here and today we're discovering the
exciting and super amazing power of science. We'll meet Libby, who loves science.

(00:26):
In fact, it's because of sciencethat Libby loves to bake and create
experiments, especially fizzy rainbow ones.At school, Libby and her friends are
put in charge of the science boothfor their school fare. But there's only
one problem. The day of thefair, no one is visiting their booth.

(00:50):
Does everyone think science is boring?Let's find out more by getting comfy,
cozy, and ready to open ourhearts and minds with Libby Loves Science
By Kimberly Dirting. Libby loves science. Libby loved science. She loved mixing,

(01:22):
pouring, measuring and stirring. Whippingup ingredients and making delicious things to
eat was one of Libby's favorite waysto experiment. Rainbow pancakes taste way better
than plain ones, she told herfamily, and sometimes it was true.

(01:42):
At school, Libby's science teacher,Mister Darwin, taught the class about chemistry.
Libby loved chemistry because it's all aboutmixing, pouring, measuring, and
stirring. Not all chemical reactions occurat the same right, said mister our
One. Oh, said Libby.Let's like ours reacted too much as her

(02:07):
experiment starts to bubble up over andoff the table. Remember your measurements need
to be precise, said mister Darwin. It's okay. Mistakes can lead to
discoveries, and sometimes making mistakes wasway more fun than cleaning up. One

(02:29):
day, mister Darwin made an importantannouncement. We are in charge of the
science booth at our school's fall festival. He said. Everyone was excited.
The fall festival was fun, andLibby liked the science booth the best.
Yay, we will have the bestbooth ever, said Libby. This year,

(02:53):
the booth that gets the most visitorsand collects the most tickets wins an
ice cream party, said mister Darwinone. We need volunteers to run our
booth. Libby, Finn and Rosajumped up from their desks. We'll do
it, said Libby. Libby,Finn and Rosa met at Libby's house after

(03:13):
school. We absolutely need to win, said Libby. Just imagine an ice
cream party, huh. I loveice cream, said Rosa. Competing with
the Bounty House won't be easy, though, said Finn. I think we
can do really fun experiments that everyonewill want to try. Libby said.

(03:35):
Cool, and we can decorated thebooth too, said Rosa. I have
tons of our supplies, said Finn. We can make our booth really stand
out and Libby. Finn and Rosasearched for fun experiments. They made a
list of possibilities and voted for theirthree favorites. Finn decided to make giant

(03:55):
bubbles with a hula hoop, Rosawanted to mix and make fluffy slime,
and Libby chose to launch a giantrocket. I can't wait for the festival,
she said. When the day ofthe festival finally arrived, a,

(04:16):
Libby, Finn, and Rosa gotthere early to help mister Darwin set up
the science booth. Finn hault inhula hoops, dish, soap, corn
syrup, and a kiddie pool.Rosa carried a basket of shaving creep glue,
siline solution and glitter. Libby broughtbaking soda, vinegar and a bunch

(04:39):
of empty water bottles. They decoratedthe booth with posters and signs and science
stuff that they had made themselves. When the festival opened, the cotton candy
booth was swamped right away. Theline was down past the dunk tank,
which was a huge hit, butthe face painting team was the one to

(05:03):
beat. The festival crowded with friendsand families and teachers having fun, but
no one was coming to the sciencebooth. Oh, no one's coming to
our booth, said Finn. Maybeeveryone thinks science is boring, said Rosa.
What science is never boring, saidLibby. We just need to show

(05:26):
them that chemistry is fun. OhI know, Let's just blow some giant
bubbles to get them excited, saidFinn. Yeah, the bigger the better,
said Rosa. And Finn filled thekittie pool with water while Rosa mixed
in the soap. The secret ingredientis corn syrup, Libby said. Yep,

(05:47):
it makes bubbles a jillion time stronger, said Finn. Next, let's
make some slime, said Rosa tothe small crown that had gathered to make
bubbles. Extra glitter equals extra sparkle, added Finn. Is he dumped in
half a jar into his It's importantto add the sailing just a little bit

(06:12):
at a time, said Libby.Yeah, that's what makes it extra squishy,
said Rosa. Now for the grandfinale, said Rosa. Our rocket
will be out of this world, said Finn. Yeah, we're gonna win
for sure, said Rosa. Okay, everyone, if we use extra baking

(06:32):
soda, the rocket might go evenhigher, said Libby. Isn't science a
blast, said Rosa to the gatheringcrowd. When Libby added the baking soda,
the liquid inside started to bubble. When the bottle filled up, the
rocket zoomed high into the air.Whosh. But then, even though the

(06:56):
rocket went very high, unfortunately it'ssprayed liquid everywhere, all over the kids
in the science booth, the kidswaiting in line for other booths, and
all over the teachers and their things. It sprayed way more than Libby had
predicted, and everyone got soaking wetand ran away. Everybody left, and

(07:21):
the face painting booth still has ahuge line. I don't think we have
enough tickets. I'm sorry, guys, said Libby. I thought the rocket
would be like really awesome. Yeah, but at least we did get a
big reaction, said Rosa, asthey were all still soaking wet from the

(07:42):
baking soda water mixture. The nextday, Principal Neil announced the winner of
the Fall Festival booth contest over theloud speaker of the school, the art
Grown Party Ghost, the old Clock, their first curnting girl come one or
a larmflard from gratulations our clock.Everyone cheered, even Libby, who felt

(08:09):
like she had let her science classdown. Mister Darwin called Libby, Finn
and Rosa to his desk. Youthree did such a great job on the
booth, he said, But wedidn't win the ice cream party, mumbled
Libby. Yeah, but that doesn'tmean we can't celebrate. How hard you
tried, said mister Darwin. Anyideas, Rosa got a big smile.

(08:35):
Maybe we can have our own party. Yo. What kind of party?
Said Finn? An ice cream party? And we can even make our own
ice cream, Libby said as shejumped up super excited. I've done this
before. I know exactly what weneed. Libby wrote a list of ingredients
on the board. Rosa barred sugarfrom the teacher's lounge, Finn and to

(09:00):
the cafeteria for ice, vanilla andmilk. Mister Darwin grabbed rock, salt,
and freezer bags from his supply cabinet, and Libby walked the entire science
class through the steps of the recipe. She even added lots of colors,
because well, rainbow ice cream usuallytastes better than plain. When it was

(09:22):
all finished, everyone enjoyed their deliciousbags of ice cream. This is delicious,
said Finn. Sometimes the best reactionsare always the first reactions, said
mister Darwin. Yeah, because icecream is so cool, said Rosa.
Yeah, said Libby. And scienceis cool too. The end, so

(10:00):
it seems friends, Libby and herfriends used teamwork, creativity, and just
a bit of chemistry to turn thingsaround and prove to everyone that science really
is fun. Have you ever useda fizzy bath bomb in the tub,

(10:20):
or maybe made some really awesome cupcakes? What about blown some bubbles from a
bubble mix and a wand or mayboop? Or maybe you have enjoyed some
yummy ice cream. If you saidyes to any of these, then congratulations,

(10:41):
you have enjoyed some awesome science experiments. You know what I loved best
about this story is that even thoughLibby and her team didn't win the school
competition, they still found a wayto use their love of science to celebrate
and make their own ice cream party, proving that just because your ideas may

(11:05):
not be the most popular, itdoesn't mean you should ever stop having them
or losing your desire to explore moreand more exciting ways to create and learn.
