book together, I feel like that this is a major accomplishment,
Like we're looking at the whole counsel of God when
we take on an entire book and able to get
through it. So I don't take this lightly. Now, this

thank you, We invite you, Father God. In Father God,
whatever is wrong, we ask that you will make it right.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Father God.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
As we look at this chapter chapter for Father God,
give us an insight on the heart of man, on
the human heart. Father, How, Father God, Oh Lord, you
look at things and how we need to deal and
guard our hearts. For your word says that out of
it are the issues of life. Well, we asked that
(04:12):
you give us the insight, the understanding, the treasure that
is hidden in his book, so that we can apply
it to our lives and so that we are able
to teach others. We thank you Father and the mighty
name of Jesus and Gods. People said amen and amen.
(04:34):
All right, So let's dive in verse four and just
a little background. Jonah is a prophet that was swallowed
up by a fish. He tried to run from the
call of God. He was already a believer. He believed
in the God that created the heavens and earth and
(04:56):
the sea. His affected this whole entire ship, everyone on
the ship. But even though they got the glory, God
got himself got the glory because when they threw Jonah
overboard to calm the ship. They made vows to God
(05:19):
like they They're like, you know what, I forget all this,
I'm gonna get right knowing how God dealt with his prophet.
And so Jonah had a death wish. She did not
want to obey God. He would rather die than go
to Nineveh. Finally he was willing to go because he
was stuck in that fish. He was ready to get out.
(05:42):
And then he comes out preaches a message that this
nation is gonna be judged. Don't even tell him how
to get right with God. It's just you're getting judged.
And the king and everyone in this whole city humbled
themselves and repented. We saw what true repentance looks like.
(06:06):
And then God did not judge the nation. And so
now Jonah's upset. He's out there throwing a fit. This
is a grown man tempertentium. And let's see how God
deals with his prophet. Like I've been saying, if God
can use Jonah, he can use us. That's hope. This
(06:27):
book is hoped to me because I believe that it's redemption.
There's been areas in my life where I ran from
the call of God. But God has been gracious and
merciful enough and patient to allow me to come back,
telling a man has dived into it. Jonah, chapter one.
(06:53):
This prophet is upset because of God's mercy, but it
is pleased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. Jonah was
upset exceedingly and he was angry. Now, Jonah wasn't mad
(07:20):
at the Ninavites. He wasn't mad after sin and the
lifestyle that they were living. He was mad at God's mercy.
He knew right he had the revelation. Now this is
an Old Testament. Now check this out. I've heard people
(07:42):
criticize the Bible and they said that the God of
the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament
are totally two different gods. It is not because they
think the God of the Old Testament is a god
a wrath He just wants to kill everybody, wants to
judge everybody. As someone confront you with this at one time.
(08:04):
But look here in the book of Jonah in the
Old Testament, Jonah is upset because he knew God was gracious,
God was merciful, and Jonah feared that God would forgive
Nineveh if they repented. Now that sounds like the New Testament.
(08:31):
You see, he's the same yesterday, today, and forever. Here
he is in the Old Testament, being merciful and forgiving
the sin of an entire city, an entire nation. Now,
(08:52):
how many times have we seen someone get blessed or
even forgiven, and deep inside we say to ourselves we
feel like, man, they don't deserve that. Now Jonah exposes
something that's real self righteousness. When God forgives others, it
(09:23):
tests our hearts to see if we truly understand the
grace of God. Let me say that again. When God
forgives people, we think they don't deserve it. It's a
test for us, and it's also a lesson so that
(09:46):
we could understand the deaths of the grace of God.
And sometimes we get hard on ourselves. We condemn ourselves.
We don't understand that the grace of God goes deep
I verse two. So he prayed to the Lord and said, Ah, Lord,
(10:11):
was not this what I said when I was still
in my country. Therefore I fled previously to Tarsius, for
I know that you are a gracious and merciful God.
Again in the Old Testament, slow to anger and abundant
(10:36):
in loving kindness, one who relents from doing harm. Now
this is his complaint. Now, if it was him, right,
he would want the mercy. And I'm not just gonna
pick on Jonah. I'm gonna pick on us. If it
was us, we want mercy every second. But when it's
(10:56):
our enemies, somebody that did us wrong, somebody that low
key we probably hate. We been deserved judgment and God
is merciful, then we failed to understand the depths of
(11:17):
God's grace. That's the human heart for you. Now, Jonah,
his theology was correct, He was spot on with this theology.
(11:40):
He knew God's character, but his heart was wrong. He resented.
He resented the compassion of God. He resented it because
he had no love for the Ninavites. I mean, isn't
(12:01):
that a little wild? You know what I mean? Jonah
quotes God's goodness like it's a bad thing. We got
to check ourselves. We gotta really check ourselves in this.
Are we quoting scripture and knowing God's nature but refusing
(12:22):
to align our hearts with his mercy. Jonah refused to
get his heart right into getting into alignment with what
he knew about God. Beloved. Let's not make that same
(12:44):
mistake now verse three. Therefore, now, oh Lord, please take
my life. Remember I said he had a death wish.
He'd rather get on the ship for a boat and flee,
not care if that boat was sinking. He was just
gonna go down with everybody else, or tell them the
(13:07):
people to throw him overboard. I mean, think about this,
He could have cried out on the ship. How much
more impact would that have been if he cried out
before these sailors and they saw how merciful God was
(13:31):
and calmed the storm, and then he said, turn this
boat around and let's go to Nineveh, taking all in
with them, and then they would have heard the message
like they would have been instant disciples at that point.
But no, John, it was like, Uh, just throw.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Me overboard, knowing he would get killed, but either hypothermia
or drowned like he was really stubborn, and it took
him three days before he humbled himself.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
All right. Jonah preferred death overseeing God's grace extended to others.
Jonah was dramatic, like, God, just kill me now. But
real talk, bitterness can blind us so bad that we'd
(14:33):
rather die than see our enemies get saved. This is
dangerous territory, holding grudges against the mercies of God. Let's
(14:53):
not find ourselves in the same place. This is one
serious check. Verse four, Then the Lord said, is it
right for you to be angry? God gently asked Jonah
(15:14):
a question. He's trying to draw out self examination. He's
trying to really get him to check himself. How many
times has God asked us a question? He's trying to
get us to examine our own hearts as well. Is
(15:38):
it right for you to be angry? And one thing
I do like about Jonah is he's honest. At least
he's up fur about it. He didn't try to hide it.
He didn't go yeah, oh no, I'm fine. How many
times do we do this in our marriages?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Right, it looks like you're lost an.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Our wives would come up to us, is it right
for you to be angry? And then we tried to
hide it? Oh nah, you know, I'm cool. I don't
want to talk about it. Our husbands come to their
wife and they get the silent treatment if Jonah comes
straight out, he says. So Jonah went out in verse
five of the city and sat on the east side. Oh,
(16:31):
let me start this on. So Jonah went out of
the city and sat on the east side of the city.
There he made himself a shelter and sat under it
in the shade until he might see what would become
(16:51):
of the city. So Jonah still he knew God was merciful,
but he was like, you know what, maybe God might
destroy it. So he just wanted to sit back and see.
Now Jonah was hoping maybe God would steal destroy many
of us. Maybe there was a chance. Now, Jonah set
(17:17):
up a front row seat to watch destruction, like waiting
for fireworks to show up. It's like the Fourth of July.
We get our chairs, we go to the park, and
we're waiting for the fireworks. Like he was waiting for
fire to fall from heaven or something, or earthquake or
(17:37):
something happened. But finally, while Jonah waited for judgment, God
was appearing to teach him mercy and compassion. So let's
go to verse six. And the Lord God appeared a
(17:58):
plant and made it come up over Jonah that it
might be shade for his head to deliver him from
his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant.
(18:20):
Look at how merciful an amazing God is verse seven.
But as the morning drew the next day, God prepared
a warm or worm, and it damaged the plant that
(18:40):
it withered. And it happened when the sun arose that
God prepared a vehement east wind, and the sun beat
on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. Then he
wished death for himself, that it is better for me
(19:01):
to die than to be alive. Wow, look at his heart.
I mean, we can see that God, in his grace,
provided comfort even for Jonah's wrong attitude. Even when Jonah
(19:27):
was in the wrong spirit. God is so patient. Even
when Jonah's attitude was trash, God still gave him shade.
Now that's mercy blessing us when we don't deserve it.
(19:49):
How many times let's praise God? It praise right there?
I think back, how many times was I in sin
and compromise and God still bless me even though I
didn't deserve it? Well, newsflash, none of us deserve anything,
(20:13):
but God does it out of his love and out
of the fact that He just wanted to bless us.
But as morning dawn the next day, God prepared a
worm and did so damage the plant that it withered.
God prepared the plant, the worm, and the wind all
(20:35):
to teach Jonah a lesson about compassion. Now God controls
all the little details, the plants, the worms, the winds,
all the shape our hearts, all this so that He
can shape and work in our hearts. Sometimes he allows discomfort,
(20:59):
and he does it not so that he can destroy us,
but to discipline us. I stay encouraged whenever I get
disciplined by God. At least that let me know I'm his,
because he does not discipline other people's children. And Jonah
is still like, just let me die. That was pride talking.
(21:25):
And we know this. We've been there where we've hardened
our hearts so much to where it didn't matter what
anybody did. You know, hurt people, hurt people. And right now,
in September, this is suicide Awareness month, and so I
think it's amazing only Spirit led us to this book
(21:49):
and we can see the insight. We can see the heart.
That's just pride. It's a hardened heart. You're unwilling to budget.
And he talking about he's willing to die, but he
didn't want to be in the belly of that fish.
He should have made that fish jump out the water
and do a backflip, and that would have checked his
(22:10):
attitude right then and there. You know what I'm saying, like,
you don't want this smoke, like you was in there
for three days. You know you don't want to be dead.
You know what I'm saying. Anyway, Let's take verse nine
to ten. Then God said to Jonah, is it right
(22:33):
for you to be angry about the plant? See how
God deals with us. He's asking us the same question,
is it right for you to be angry? And now
he's talking about the plant, and he said, it is
right for me to be angry, even to death. Now
(22:58):
Jonah's just holding on to this hard and heart, to
this pride. It's like, it's right for me to be angry.
How many times have we tried to justify our bad attitude?
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Is it right for you to be angry? And this
is how Jonah responds verse ten. The Lord said, you
have had pity on the plant for which you have
not labored nor made it, which came up in the
(23:39):
night and perished in the night in a night. Now
God reveals Jonah cared more about a plant than about people.
(24:06):
Joint of value, its own comfort, more than the eternal
souls of one hundred and twenty thousand people out How
often do we put our convenience over someone else's salvation?
(24:27):
Now that's a heart check right there. How many times
have we been concerned about our own thing and our
own lives to where we were not willing to go
out and tell somebody about Jesus? All right, verse eleven,
(24:54):
as we wrap up this book, this is the final
verse in the final chapter. All right, let's see what
the Word has for us? And shall I not pity Nineveh,
that great city in which are more than one hundred
(25:14):
and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right
and their left, and much live stock. God cared about
the city, He cared about the people. God ends the
(25:35):
book with a question. His compassion extends even to the animals,
even to the livestock. And one hundred and twenty thousand
people who don't know their right from their left. These
are children. So if there's one hundred twenty thousand children,
(26:01):
there had to be at least four million people in
this city. This people, I mean, this city was populated
with people. Now, finally, notice how the book just ends
with God's heart on full display. Jonah's heart was hardened,
(26:28):
but God was full of mercy. That's the challenge for
us today. Do we align our hearts with Jonah's bitterness
or God's compassion? Let me say that one more time.
(26:48):
Do we align our hearts with Jonah's bitterness or God's compassion? Remember,
all through this Bible, all through the book, God is
always dealing with the hearts of men. It's our heart posture.
(27:12):
Our hearts is the key to whether or not we're
making into the Kingdom. The Bible says, with all diligence,
guard your hearts, for out of it are the issues
of life. Jesus said the New Testament, what comes out
of the heart of men is what will defile them.
(27:33):
And so the challenge for us is to keep the
heart of God. We got to be loving, we got
to be compassionate, and the Word of God and the
Holy Spirit is here to help us on our journey.
(27:58):
All right, let's go ahead and none you're some music,
quick break, We'll be right back.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
You are listening to the light of Las Vegas. This
is the hiss Hop Radio show, but.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Back in that as our brother third day the mouthpiece
with let me find doubt, Let me find out. You
walking through many of us trying to hit on the people.
You know what I'm saying. Let me find out. You
just got swallowed up? All right, let me stop. Let
me stop. Man book to Jonah amazing book a great,
(31:53):
great insight on the human heart and the difference between
us the heart of God. And we'd be wise to
stick with the heart of God to stay in alignment.
God's here to help us with that. We're not by ourselves.
We need to cry out to the Holy Spirit. We
(32:15):
need to ask God to re not change our hearts,
but to recreate our hearts. Amn, Hallelujah. We serve an
amazing God. All right. Time for the accountability Partner segment.
(32:42):
Make sure you go to the app his Hot Radio,
go to my podcast and click on the accountability form
the accountability Partner. It's a great self check. I went
through it and check my heart and basically, when you know,
(33:05):
we need community in this. We need to serve God together.
We need to be seeking God and helping each other. Right,
That's how God designed it. There's no such thing as
lone rangers sink, you know what I'm saying. So the
(33:28):
challenge is today, ask yourself, who in my life and
my refusing to forgive? That's the question. God showed mercy
to Nineveh and he wants me to extend that same
(33:51):
mercy to others. Accountability means checking my own heart before
checking someone else's. Let me say that again. Accountability means
check in our own hearts before we check the hearts
of others. All righth News. Now we want to let
(34:26):
y'all know that his Hot Radio is a monitoring and
a reporting radio station. If you have some music a
project you want to submit to us, go to the

days did God give them to repent before destruction? How
many days did God give them to repent before destruction
(35:37):
was to happen? Community shout outs, Shout out to every
ministry that is grinding in the street, coming out those
four walls out there to reach these souls. Right, just
(35:58):
like Jonie, he had grade six. The whole city repented,
and that's what we need to do. We need I'm
after the whole city of Las Vegas. This whole city
needs to repent.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Man, looks like you lost another one.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Don't worry about the casinos. God is able to sustain
us other ways. But the important thing is to get
right with God. Post the answer in the life chat. Well, yeah,

this whole Book of Jonah. Now this wraps up the book. Hallelujah.
(38:30):
We need to celebrate, Thank you Lord. Another book. The
first book was Revelation, then we jumped to Rona Romans,
and now we're here at Jonah. So pray for me,
help me pray to see what direction the Holy Spirit
wants to take this podcast and what book we want
(38:51):
to tackle next. Now let's see the Book of Jonah.
Now we've been and we have seen rebellion, We've seen
we've seen repentance in this book, in revival and now
(39:13):
a heart check. God shows us the heart issue of Jonah.
Now let's not be like Jonah, bitter at God's mercy.
But let's walk in compassion like Christ. Now until next time,
(39:40):
keep chasing holiness, keep building a legacy, and remember we
walk this path together, and I'm gonna close it out
like we always do. It's not about us, It's all
(40:00):
about the Christ in us. See you in the next book.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
You are listening to the light of Las Vegas. This
