Speaker 6 (01:32):
Okay, let's see what happened on December twenty fourth throughout history.
In fourteen ninety two, when Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue,
do you remember the three ships that he was on,
the Nina the Pin and the Santa Maria. Well, Columbus,
he was on the Santa Maria. Now he went to
bed one night and he left the steersman in charge. Now,
while that steersman his job basically was just not to
sink the ship, but during the night he did what
(01:54):
Columbus had forbidden him to do. Yep, he went and
took a nap and had a cabin boy steer the ship. Yep,
cabin boy sink the sh it. Now he had a
sandbar off of Haiti. So since that ship was just total,
they took the wood from the ship and they built
a fort there on that island and Haiti. Now I
think we all knew who had to guard that for
it when the other two ships sailed off, don't we?
The song rout off the Red Nose Reindeer. It's been
(02:15):
covered by over one hundred and thirty four different artists.
Now the story of Rudolph It began in nineteen thirty
nine when Robert may He was told by his bosses
at Montgomery Wards to created a new Christmas character for
their department store, came up with Rudolf the Red Nose
reindeer to draw and shoppers during the holiday season. Then
in nineteen forty nine his brother in law he wrote
the song Roote off the Red Nose Danger Gin Notry
recording it, and we have it as our number nine
(02:37):
Christmas song all time.
Speaker 7 (02:39):
You know Dasher and Dancer and Francer and licks Common
and Cupid and Donner and Blitz. What do you recall
the most famous reindeer of all, Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer,
(03:00):
had a very shining os and if you ever saw it,
you would even say close. All of the other reindeers
used to let them call him name. They never let
poor Rudolph joining any reindeer game.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Back in eighteen thirty two, a group of white townspeople
in Savannah, Georgia, they got together and opened up the
first hospital for black people. Now it was the first
negro hospital in the United States that was formed by whites. Now,
sure everybody should have been allowed to go to the
same hospital, but it was Georgia in eighteen thirty two.
At least they were trying to do some good, not
like these nut jobs. In eighteen sixty five and Pulaski,
(03:44):
Tennessee Confederate four soldiers. Yeah, they formed the klu Klux Klan.
Yeah on Christmas Eve. Now, it actually kind of started
out as a joke. The original bylaws stated that the
purpose was to have ludicrous initiations and baffle public curiosity
and when it engaged and fun and amusement for all
the members. But that didn't last long. Other Confederate soldiers
they joined and put a former Confederate General, Bedford Watson,
(04:07):
while Bedford Nathan Forrest in charge. He was the first
Grand Wizard of the Kluklux Clan. So yeah, they became
a white supremacist group. No, I know, that's kind of
a downer. Next song isn't though. The earliest version of
Santa Claus is Coming to Town. It's recorded by a
banjo player, Harry Resoner recorded it back in nineteen thirty four.
Harry sold thirty thousand records and five hundred thousand copies
(04:29):
of the sheet music. Since then, it's been recorded over
two hundred times. Most popular version Bricks Springsteen in the East,
deep band.

thousand feet bigger than the second biggest house. It's up
in New York. Nineteen oh one, private companies were finally
(05:35):
allowed to use the word postcard. That's right before today,
they had to be called private mailing cards.
Speaker 8 (05:41):
Say.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
The trademark that the Post Office had on the term
postcards it expires, so now everybody could use it. Andy
Williams' song Most Wonderful Time of the Year is probably
the song that embodies the Christmas season the best. It's
kind of the unofficial thing for Christmas. That's kind of
why you hear it played over and over in the
stores when you're out there shopping. Now it's as popular
today as it was when it came out in nineteen
(06:01):
sixty three.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
It's the most wonderful Time.
Speaker 9 (06:06):

come to call.

Nineteen fifty five, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a Sears store
they run an ad in the newspaper asking kids to
call Santa, but the newspaper printed the wrong phone number,
so instead of calling SyRS, the kids were calling Norad.
Now the soldiers at Norad there were good sports about it.
They just kind of went with it and answered the
calls and all that. But that's when the tradition of
neuron tracking Santa Claus began. Now you can't have a
(07:00):
top ten The best ever, lesson not include Elvis, Presley
or my mom would be pretty upset. Ernest Tubbs. He
made the song Blue Christmas a hit back in the
nineteen forties. Then in nineteen sixty seven, Elvis made the

that day looking for her mom, who was sitting behind
her on the plane. No luck, she didn't find any
other survivors because there weren't he any. Yeah, she's the
only one who survived that thing. Then she found a
bag of candy and hit it out. She found a
river and she followed it downstream for ten days, eating
only the candy. Then she came into our logging camp.
