Speaker 1 (01:47):
That was rappers Delight by the sugar Hill Gang that
was considered the first rap song actually hit on the
pop charts. Any idea what the first rap song was
to go number one?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Was it a Beastie Boys song?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It was actually Blondie members. She had the song rapture,
Oh yeah yeah. But the Sugarhill Gang they're still this fun.
So what we're gonna do today is we're gonna do
the show just like normal, where we talk about what
happened and throughout history and who was born and all
that kind of stuff. But we're gonna interweed throughout the
show all the number one hit wonders that we think
(02:21):
of belong of all time. So let's just start off
with what happened on entertainment on September twenty fifth, and
the year two thousand and seven. The number one album
was High School Musical. The soundtrack sold Your Boy. He
had the number one song with Crank that sold Your
Boy by Me. Crank that sold Your One is Superman?
Irk that so I mean you crank that? So I
(02:41):
crank that, so crank that so that what sold by me?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Cranking me bro by me crank that holds the one
is Superman?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Crank that song that so Roldsco Flats. They had the
number one country song with take Me There being around
(03:19):
the music industry out there nationhal Dinner ever runn against
the guys wing Rascal Flats.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Not really, I did know some of the guys in
a lone Star.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Actually, Oh well that's cool.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
And I have eaten sushi with Keith Urban.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
You got that going, don't you.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, he's cute.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
He's real cute, all right. The number one book in
two thousand and seven was A thousand Splindid Suns by
Khalid his son. The top movie was The Game Plan
Dwayne Johnson. He is a professional quarterback in the NFL.
You know, he is living the high live bachelor lifestyle
and he finds out he has an eight year old
daughter from an ex girlfriend and really screws up this
whole so personal life there. So it also starts Kira
(04:02):
Sedgwick and Madison Pettis.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
No you say say.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
She's a wait that sound Stacy? Can you say you're
just not me?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I know?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
I love with Stacey's all right? At number nine, I
have Stacy's Mom by Fountain of Waynes. But you didn't
see that one coming, did you never?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I actually really liked that song. I really don't like
the message, but the melody is just so happy. How
can you not like it?
Speaker 1 (04:43):
That's true? The video is really cute too.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I was bet I haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
All right, let's see what happened in the world on
September the twenty fifth. In fifteen thirteen, Spanish explorer Vasco
di Baboa, he landed on the Atlantic side of Panama,
now about Boa and one hundred and ninety of his
men decided to take a walk. So today, after twenty
five days a hiking through jungle and swamps and all that, yeah,
they became the first Europeans to see the Pacific Ocean.
So I did Balboa know how to cross Panama? It
(05:11):
was the shortest distance between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean
total communication there. So he had some local guides within
the show around Balbo. He wanted the guys to show
more they could go find gold. All the guides they
thought he wanted to they give to the other ocean.
In Boston, in sixty ninety, Benjamin haira As he published
the first newspaper in the American colonies. He called it
the Public a Public Accountants. Anyway, that first issue, it
(05:35):
was the last one. See when that newspaper hit the streets.
The governor of Massachusetts, he did not like that at all.
The people were talking about what he was doing, so
he was able to get the paper shut down. He
said that Benjamin did not get a license to print,
and so his punishment was he couldn't start printing the
newspaper again because he didn't do it the first time.
Eighteen forty four, in Canada, they beat the United States
twenty three runs to nothing in the American's first cricket match. Oh,
(05:59):
the United States decided that cricket's a stupid sporting we
don't played it since eighteen seventy eight. A British doctor,
his name is Charles Drysdale he had a letter printed
in the London Times newspaper. It was the first time
that somebody told of all the health dangers of smoking.
Nobody believed him. Now they still play here.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
You have a baseball fan, I like being in a
baseball stadium, but because it's peaceful. But I can't honestly
say I know anything about what's going on in baseball.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Well, I'm sure you heard of Finway Park. It was
today in Boston they started building Benway Park. They laid
they did the groundbreaking that they started. That was in
nineteen eleven. They started playing there in nineteen twelve. Now
Finway it is the oldest baseball stadium. The second oldest
is Wrigley Field was in Chicago that started playing there
in nineteen fourteen. Then get this, so you had Finway
(06:49):
in nineteen twelve, Wrigley in nineteen fourteen, the third oldest
stadium Dodger Stadium nineteen sixty two. That's a big gap.
That iseteen nineteen. In the United States, President Woodroe Wilson
he suffered a quote unquote personal breakdown. It was out
are in pe Webblo, Colorado. So basically what happened is
he had a stroke and He never recovered, but his
(07:11):
wife hit it for two years. She basically made it
impossible to go see the president or anything. Kind of
sounds familiar, didn't it.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
In nineteen eighty actor Kerry Grant, he was suing comedian
Chevy Chase for ten million dollars. Well today, Chevy, he
settled out of court. Yeah, it was undisclosed amount of money,
but he did pay carry some Any idea why carry
was suing Chevy?
Speaker 2 (07:33):
No idea.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Chevy called carry a homo. On Life TV nineteen eighty one,
Sandra d O'Connor, She was sworn in as the first
female United States Supreme Courts justice in nineteen eighty three.
Saint Louis Cardinals Pictures. Bob Forsche He no hit the
Montreal expos So that was paid back for that cricket
game one hundred years earlier.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Reminded of the times, reminded the next time.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Do you know that the title of that song is
actually called tub Thumping? Tub Thumping? No?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I didn't, Interesting, I love that song. That's kind of
my theme song. Lightly.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yeah, tub Thumping and Tumumbawamba. I got them at number eight.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Interesting and that's the what group is that they're Chumbawamba. Okay,
bunch of kind of remind me of the Black Eyed Peace.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Basically hit it about the same time.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
It's interesting they were British, so they were a little
more obnoxious than well, I don't know the Black Eyed Preeze.
I think they might have even been a little not ferguson,
but I think the rest of our fergie but the
rest of them are probably might have been British.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I think they were.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
All right, let's talk some birthday.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
This is not a number one song. This is just
the song we play every day when we go to birthdays.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Dope joke, joke show dish shibbert Day.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
We're gonna pu he left this shibthday. We won't sit
potage like this Shibirthday. And you know we don't do.
That's her birthday, well, it's was born on September the
twenty fifth. Barbara Walters. She was born in Boston in
nineteen twenty nine. Nineteen seventy six, she became the first
woman to anchor a network newscast. She's best known for
her TV specials. She interviewed everybody from politicians, the heads
(09:38):
of state, entertainers, athletes, any public figure. She has the
most watched special. It was in nineteen ninety nine she
interviewed Monica Lewinsky right after the Whole Thing with her
and Bill Clinton. That is still the most watched interview
on TV history. Seventy four million people watch that. Then,
after sixty five years of groundbreaking journalist Barbara She ruined
it all. Yeah, she created the TV show called The View.
(10:00):
Rob run her entire repitation. She divorced her second or.
She had a daughter from her second husband. She married
her third husband twice, but neither one of them took
barb She died in twenty twenty two at ninety three
years old from dementia. So maybe we can blame that
on the View.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Maybe I wouldn't doubt it.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Actor Michael Douglas. He's eighty one. He was born in
New Brunswick, New Jersey, in nineteen forty four. His dad
was famous actor Kirk Douglas. Now Michael made a name
for himself when he produced the movie One Flew Over
the Cuckoo's Nest. He got a Best Actor or a
Best Picture Oscar for it. Then he won a Best
Actor Oscar for Wall Street. Now he he just released
(10:40):
a he just retired. I guess it was just earlier
this year, so went very long ago he retired now.
He did have one son from his first wife, married
a second wife in two thousand. They have a son
and a daughter. She is actress Katherine Zada Jones and
Catherine she's fifty six today. That's right. They were both
born on September the twenty fifth, except she was born
in Yeah, she's born in nineteen sixty nine though in Swansea, Wales.
(11:03):
Now she won her oscar for Chicago. Then she first
hit in the movie Mask of Zoro, then Entrapmont Traffic America,
Sweet Art's Ocean's twelve. But you can tell that Catherine,
she's just cool now. Before she's married Michael was around
nineteen ninety five and the mid nineteen nineties nin area.
The British tabo has just followed her relentlessly. They were
wanting to know everything she did. She couldn't go anywhere,
(11:25):
so finally she just came out and held a public
press conference and said, Okay, I drink, I swear, I
like sex. What else do you want from me? You
know what? They left her alone and didn't follow her
anymore after that one.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Maybe that's the secret you just I'll go ahead and
expose everything and then the all.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Of you alone, complete honesty. It throws people off, yep,
it does. So if you're wondering, how would two actors
who are twenty five years of part in age ever
get together? Danny DeVito he introduced the two of them.
Sheryl Tig She's seventy eight. She was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota,
in nineteen forty seven. Now she is considered America's for supermodel.
(12:01):
Now she had a blue bikini poster back in nineteen
seventy eight that was the worldwide number one best seller.
I would have thought Fara Facet, but no, that was
Sheeryl Thiegus. Now, she was on the cover the very
first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, actually the first two covers.
Now sure how she divorced four times. She had a
son from her third husband, and she had twin boys
from her fourth husband. So how many people do you
(12:22):
think know Jenny's number better than they know only they
know their.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
Own eight, six, seven, five, three or nine.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Jenny? It was actually written on a bathroom wall. That's
where they got that number from. For the song Wow,
now we know that that guy the band that played
that is Tommy two Tone. They actually started out as
Tommy and their two Tones. They just shortened it up.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
But I have that that was the one who they're only.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Hit, only hit, huh. But I have him number seven
for best one hit. Wonder actor Anson Williams. He was
born in Los Angeles in nineteen forty nine. He's seventy
six to day. He played Patsy Whatever on the TV
show Happy Days Now. He's been a very successful career
as a director on TV. Just some of the shows
that he's directed on Melrose Play, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,
(13:27):
Lizzie McGuire, Beverly Hills nine o two one. Though then
he had one child from his first wife. He divorced
his second wife after thirty one years of marriage and
they had four kids. He married his third wife just
two years ago.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Has been a long time, a same job.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
And then abody has a right to.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Saton sock Fand.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
That was Donnie Iris and his song A Leah. I
have him coming in at number six. You like Donnie,
I do?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I do?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Now get this there's how the song came to be.
Donnie and his co writer they wanted to write an
anti war song. So they got together and they made
all the music that they heard doing that song. They
got it all written out, but they could not come
up with any anti war lyrics. And when nayed Donnie,
he was at the store and he met this girl
named Leah. They got to talking and he got a
crush on and all it so Leah. She ended up
(14:32):
becoming a one hit wonder instead of the anti war movement.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
So there was a song called Leah.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah that when a Leah right there?
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Okay, it's funny. I do think men need women for inspiration.
I think that's true.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, total muse huh, Okay, we're halfway through any idea?
What could possibly be ahead?
Speaker 2 (14:56):
I sized baby?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Actually he had two songs. He can't be a win
hit one did, okay? Actor Mark Hamill. He was born
in Oakland, California, in nineteen fifty one. He's seventy four today.
Speaker 6 (15:07):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
He did some small roles on TV, but then he
ate huge in his first movie, Star Wars. Of course,
he played Luke Skywalker. He had a pretty nice run
there playing Luke and all those Star Wars movies. Some
of his non Star Wars movies were Corvette Summer, Big
Red One. Now he just filmed the Stephen King horror
movie not too long ago. Mark. He married a dental
hygienist in nineteen seventy eight and they have two sons
(15:28):
and one daughter. What do you think, Tony Basil Mickey
(15:51):
sound about right at number five?
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I love that song. Yeah, that's good.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Actor for Christopher Raid. He was born in nineteen fifty
two in out There in California. Now he is most
famous for playing Superman. He played Superman in the first
four movies. Now. He was also in the movies Somewhere
in Time, debth Trap, the Aviator nineteen ninety five, Raeves,
he was thrown from a horse durning in questioning competition,
left in paralyzed from the neck down the shoulders down. Now,
(16:16):
before that, he had a son and a daughter from
an ex girlfriend. Got married in nineteen ninety two and
they had a son. Now, Raves he died in two
thousand and four, fifty two years old, and I think
it was from medicine they gave him that he had
a bad reaction to that actually killed him.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
One So.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
I'll run from you, change and love you. Givas.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
I gave you the boy could give you, Take my
tears and.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Change the love, change it love Now. Personally, I think
Soft Cell at number four that might be a little high.
But remember I'm not doing my favorite one hit Wonders.
I'm doing what I think are the biggest one hit thunders,
and that song with its pretty big.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
That was huge. I'm surprised that they didn't have more hits.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Actually, I know that's a shock. You think that, yeah.
Actress Heather Lockler. She was born in Los Angeles in
nineteen sixty one. She's sixty four. She's best known for
TV first on Dynasty, than TJ Hooker, Spin City, Melrose Place.
She seemed like someone who might have liked Melrose Place
back in the day.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I actually am watching it now.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Now. Heather she loved her rockers. Her first husband was
Tommy Lee, the drummer from Motley kru Her second husband
was Richie Sambar. He was a guitarist from Bon Jovi.
They had a daughter, then Heather. She had a lot
of trouble with alcohol and drugs, mostly alcohol, but she
went into treatment like twenty times, so hopefully this time
it actually takes. She has been sober for over a
(17:47):
year and she called out for an engagement to some
guy that think was common might have not been her
best for her. And she's being social again. She's not
just locking herself away and drinking. She's actually out and
about and all this kind of stuff. And the picture
of her she looks really good. So it sounds like
maybe maybe stir in the corner on this one.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
That's good because I don't know why that always kind
of bothered me that she kind of went on a
sparrow downhill.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Yeah, so good. Knock on wood for hither.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Sometime.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Wow, My Sharona. In nineteen seventy nine, My Sharona by
the NAC it was the number one song of the year.
I have him at number three now. If you've ever
wondered whatever happened to Sharona who the song's about, Well,
her name is Sharona Oupron and she's a real estate
agent in Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Real estate. That's kind of fun. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Rapper actor Will Smith. He's fifty seven. He's born in
Philadelphia in nineteen sixty eight. Now he first h did
a rapper. He's only twenty member DJ Jazzy, Jeff and
the Press Prince. They have a parents just don't understand.
In summertime, Boom, Shake of Boom. Then Will did some
solo stuff. He actually started acting on the sitcom Fresh
Prince of bel Air. But Will's biggest success has been movies.
(19:14):
He's been in a lot of really money making movies,
The Men in Black movies, Independence Day, the Bad Boy movies.
He was nominated for Oscars for Ali and the Pursuit
of Happiness. He won an Oscar for Best Actor for
King Richard. Now. He had a son from his first wife,
and he married Jada Binkott in nineteen ninety seven and
they have a son and a daughter. Now, when you
(19:54):
look at most one hit wonder lists out there, Low
Still Real and Macarino, they usually have that at number one.
Not me. I could not do it. I believe that
there is only one song that everybody on the planet knows,
just by the force for for words.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
I like, and I can't lie to not don't want
to hear A walk with anybody? What's a round thing
in your face? You get thrung wna pull up because
you know that's why the stuff he's been a Jesus
he's wearing. I'm hooked and I can't I'm staring baby.
I want to get a whip chop and take your picture.
Who warned me with what you've got me?
Speaker 2 (20:32):
All right?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
That's why I was the number one hit wonder of
off time Baby Got Back by CIR Mixed Luck. So
how'd I do?
Speaker 2 (20:41):
That? Was interesting? That was a roller coaster when I
think of Baby Got Back though obviously very degrading to women.
As a woman, I have to protest. But I think
if the Friends episode where Ross and Rachel were singing
it to their little baby, like.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
I said, everybody knows that song before everybody does. Yeah,
it's multi generational too, it is. Oh well, thank you
for joining us today. It's been fun talking to you again.
I'm glad your face is red and but you're feeling
better and yeah, that was great.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
You gave me a little dance time. I've had a
little stress today, so it's good to hear some good
music and kind of lighting.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Up right, And so you guys all know that you
can now we'll put it on the show notes where
you can actually hear me and Steph on these times
with Jeff and Steph and it's a good show. You
guys want to watch it. They're listening to it, I
guess we can't put it.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah, I won't talk about it on this podcast because
it's not relevant relevant, But there's a song you played
that really is kind of relevant spiritually for the things
we talk about on our show.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Right, okay. Quote of the day to day it's going
to come from golf ledgend Arnold Palmer. He died it
in twenty sixteen at eighty seven years old. He says,
the most rewarding things you can do in life are
often the things you didn't know you could do. Well,
thank you all for joining us. Stephan again, thank you
very much, and don't forget to follow us on who
you listen to us on and I always check out
the notes and the descriptions so you get the links
(22:06):
and all that kind of stuff. Now normally and with
the artist from our country underground radio radio station, and
we let somebody pick the song, and well, I'm picking
a song today. We're not gonna go with our country
radio station today. Nope, we're gonna go with our co host, Yes,
Stephanie Jakes Herd song two Blonde Girls. You guys have
an awesome day and we'll talk tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
We go the day light songs.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
I gotta get to the Starbucks, get some magic bees.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Heve be on my way.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Magics's only don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
That Today another day is.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
So you go back.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
So with you rocoms, and I can't the change, And.
Speaker 2 (23:08):

Okay, marry me, love you, so your hands us to
make your dreams countrue.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
You just do me, bien me you never had
