Speaker 3 (00:43):
Welcome to Hawkut Top Podcast, Episode two thirteen, Runner with
the Devils. Uh, I'm your hus Bill Dean, and I'm
here with my co host Shwim.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Stephen's out galvan thing in the north. Uh he is northwest?
Or is he just west? Straight west? We're Stephen, I
don't even know. Go find step California. Where's Waldo? And
Shortsky's out today? Uh? We are brought to you by
prime Timerido Christian sam Wu. I'm behind the glass. I
didn't mess that up. Surprisingly you brought us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube,
(01:18):
Apple and Google podcasts, Spotify and iHeartRadio. Please it's a
five star review if you'd be ever so kind, swim
what are we drinking?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I get to go first this time, It's crazy. I
never get to go first. It's amazing. It's a festivst miracle.
So I actually just picked this beer up. I was
going to get another beer that was called yard Mere Lagger.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Oh that would have been awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, I should have got but it was like it
was like twenty three dollars for a four pack, and
I'm like for a four pack. Yeah, I think I
think it was by Brick City. I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I think it was Brick City. Okay, but my god,
I just stuck.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
I got a Zigmeister sour that I haven't had. So
it's a fruit sour that is uh it's raspberry, lemon
and hibiscus apparently. So I've had a bunch of their
beers and they're all really good, and so I haven't
I looked it up. I hadn't had this one. I
was out actually, because I was I went to like
three or four different places looking for milk for Marina
(02:14):
because we were out of milk and no place I
usually go to white, right, Yeah, I usually go to whites.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
They didn't have it.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, they didn't have one.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
That specific one that we need for is it formula?
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Now it's milk, but it's like it's like a special
growing thing, whole milk, and they didn't have it. So
I went to another place they didn't have it. Or
I went to a shop right didn't have it, And
I finally found that a freaking target. Okay, So while
was that chop right though? They have that whole Uh
you know, they got the in and grabbed these bad boys.
(02:50):
So trying this out for the first time, that.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Was definitely a good choice to go to the beer
section as well as the milk section. Yes, I need
courtesy Andrew, Papa need did its beverage Curtis Andrew who
went to bleerro Snort this past weekend AJ being my
brother co host of Football Football Prime Time. This is
called hard butter beer, so it is a butter beer lagger. Okay, interesting, Yeah,
(03:17):
so malt beverage with cream, soda, syrup, natural and artificial flavors.
So it's a lot of just weird stuff in here.
Obviously I had a Carl stat go take a look
at blow Snort if you would like to. We will
try this and hopefully it's as good as butter beer is,
because butter beer is delicious on its own. All right,
let's go on to that today's episode. Here's our weekly
(03:39):
snap shot. Uh. Obviously the podcast title run with the
Devil's Devil's doing pretty well, but shwim. If I was
to ask you, name me the top five players in
scoring in the NHL right now without cheating or maybe
you've already seen it.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
What what is it?
Speaker 3 (04:00):
What would you say it was? Actually, I don't know
if I know the fifth, but I think I know
the top four. Let's see it. Number one. Number one
is McKinnon Nate dog awesome.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Because he singing. He had nine points in his last
two games.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, including what was it that he had against the
Edmonton It was at five or six?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I think he had I think four. Yeah, yeah, they
smoked them nine to one in Edmonton. And then he
comes back the next night it was back to back
against Vancouver and has five more points.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
And then finally you see the first rumor that they're
looking for a goalie because now there's the rumor that
they might get Yucy Sorrows, which should have been doing
this for how long now, like waiting they needed to
need like three years ago. Yes exactly. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
They're idiots, so whatever, I hope they they really suck
even more so anyway, So yeah, McKinnon one, I think,
uh this Batard or Leo Carlson.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Two tied for two twenty five points a piece. Leo
Carlson drafted two years ago. Connor Berguard have drafted three
years ago, and then Celebrini I think is fourth four
drafted two years ago, and number five David is six
or something slick willy slick slick willy Nilander as side five,
(05:20):
number six, Chel McDavid and Caprizov. I'll have twenty two.
But my point to this, the top five is the
kid renaissance because you have you know, but Dard's having
an awesome your nine goals, Carlson and Celebrna Bolt ten
goals apiece, they've been awesome. Obviously, Cutter Gotier scoring you know,
(05:40):
at a at a ridiculous rate as well. He's got
eleven goals in fifteen games. But you have a whole
bunch of just young kids coming up doing fantastic things.
And the NHL is so bright for these many reasons. Right,
You've you know, Trevor Zegris is doing really well in Philly,
and you have you know, Marchenko, and you have obviously
there's you know, a little more known names why Johnston, Matthew,
(06:03):
nice guys like this, but it's it's really you know,
it's the Will Smiths at you know, sixteen points a
point per game player. Yep, yeah, what's his name in
Oh my god, in Pittsburgh. The rookie Kindall Kendall, he's Kindle. Yeah,
he's doing awesome. And you know, just the youth movement
(06:26):
is so much fun to watch and you have but
I was actually just looking at this, how many guys
are already a point per game to start the season.
I'm looking at Yeah, no, the number forty one scorer
in the NHL, who would be Ivan Barbashev. There's tied
for forty one. All of these guys from forty one
and above are at or greater than a point per
(06:48):
game players. That's awesome like that. They're The scoring in
the National Hockey League has taken off this season. And
don't really know exactly why. You know, I think goalies
have not been as good, but I think maybe just
offensives have changed, you know, just different things. But uh,
it's it's a lot of fun to watch and a
lot of fun to you know, cover you know, sport
(07:08):
like this where you continually see growth, and like I said,
the young players is where you want to see that
major growth and it's it's a lot of fun, you know,
a lot of fun to see.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I think a lot of this year, a lot of
the guys that were like, are like Leo Carlson, for example,
he's taken a freaking huge step. Like we knew he
was going to be good. We knew he was good,
and we you know, projected him to be pretty good.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
We didn't.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, we didn't think he's going to be number two
in the league and scoring, you know, challenge him to
be number one. And we didn't think Anaheim was going
to be one of the best teams this could like
right now, they're like seven straight I think also right.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Look at look at the standings. You have an I
number one in the West. Uh, you have the Utah Mammoth. Well,
they've taken a step back. They still have eighteen points
and you know, tied for tiede for you know, fourth
in their league. Chicago has gone they've won three or
four and won their last ten. Yeah they won three.
(08:12):
San Jose, Yeah, another one that's that's done really well.
And then in the East you got Montreal who's leading.
You have the you got the Devils and Hurricanes at
the Metro. But Pittsburgh's right there with their rookie you know,
winger and and number one overall power play guy. It's
it's a lot of fun, you know, and the Rangers, Yeah,
Boston real Yeah, uh Morgan Kiky just came out of
(08:35):
nowhere to do things. That's a lot of fun, it
really is. And you know, just the overall abundance of scoring,
like I said, has been a real fun thing to watch,
something that I think was talent in.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
The league and now like these kids are these kids
are like growing into it. And you know that like
the influx of talent that comes in every year, like
you know, you expect, you know, some of these kids
to be, you know, pretty good. But then there's kids
that have been in the league for a couple of
years and they hit like they hit that stride where
you know they're just they can turn it on and
(09:12):
all of a sudden, boom, they're a point per game player.
Even more so, it's like a lot of these kids
are are really performing well and it's awesome to see,
especially like sel Briney and Carlson and all them. Like
we knew they were gonna be good, but like we
didn't think, like, you know, they'd be like on pace
with Nathan Nathan McKinnon's and the and the Conor McDavid's
and all them. It's crazy it's awesome to say.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
And especially you know Connor Bdard. We've but yeah, he
he went from from being a guy that some people
were thinking, hey, maybe maybe he's not that type of player.
Maybe they got this one wrong, which is pretty amazing
to think from a guy that was generally considered, you know,
(09:57):
it was considered a generational talent. And how often does
that happen.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Something happens the guy is like he has like a
little bit of an off season or an off a
couple of months or something like that, everybody's ready to write.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Him off, like, yeah, I mean had a bad year
plus so that was.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Honestly, he didn't have the greatest year. But he's like,
come on, we knew this kid was gonna be good,
and he's the team is around him is doing well
now and he's performing at a high level. So it's
just like, I'm not surprised that he's able to bounce back.
He's extremely extremely good player.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah, you're very very good, so looking forward to anybody
would want him on his team. So all these people
sayings could be a bust. These people are you are
as dumb as the day is round. A couple of
other things, you know, obviously injuries kind of hitting a
little bit of a toll here, Carlson exit, you know,
(10:54):
the the Night's game with an injury, you've Dubois here,
Luketaboa out three to four months. He had a Donald
surgery for the Capital, so that's a you know, a
big hole for their second line center. I feel like
he's always right. Yeah, I do too, Yeah, he does
feel like that kind of like hurt club, you know.
Rasmus DLin not injury, but he's going back to uh
(11:16):
Sweden support his fiance. I don't think I saw anything
of a reason why, but oh that's right. Heart surgeries.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Hear there you go.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, so hopefully she obviously goes very well and he
should stay there as for as long as he needs,
because that's I'm actually kind of surprised she didn't. You know,
she's over there, not over here. But anyone who knows
you had Juri Koolich who has the blood clott he's
probably out for the year two, which is you know,
you wish the best for those kind of guys.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
A couple of guys. There was another guy with a
blood clot issue. I think he was on the Penguins.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Oh really, I didn't see that part. Yeah, I saw him.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
First actually, and then I saw this coolish guy his like,
what the hell is going on with multiple people with yeah,
blood clott issues?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
I got no clue to one year. Yeah Stammer. Stammer
had it, Uh, what's his name? The defenseman for Capital's
had it too, and and La Tang well, yeah, Carlson
and Latang put at it right.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Oh really yeah? Uh.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
On a brighter side of Vechkin, the nine hundred goal club,
which is absolutely amazing. Yeah, class And you know, I
know obviously Biddington the whole thing with him, but that's
a d bag move because you know, he's like, I
was going to give it back to him. I thought
I was, you know, assisting and actually got a point
or whatever, but that's I really think he was trying
(12:38):
to pocket that one as Yeah, and he got caught
and he.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Got and he got caught and he's like, oh yeah, no,
I was going to give it back. Yeah, Okay, I
hate that guy because you're you're you're such you're such
good friends with Alex.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
That what you were going to do? Right? Yeah? You
aready given him out of coindness of your heart. You
wanted to physically.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Handle it here.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, and why would you know he stuck it in
like his jock, Like, now he has to have your
stupid jock's stench on his what he was hoping for
due he would want him because his taint was all
over it. We obviously had the Rangers scoring, uh a
(13:19):
goal in today's game, two goals actually already uh and
now just just change I missed that four. Yeah, I
watched the second period. I've been doing this. Wow, So
the Rangers could score on Masis Square Garden. Nice?
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yeah, Rangers seven games at home not kind of today
five shutouts and then the other it's it's pretty it
really is amazing, Like how is that possible? I don't know,
five shoutouts? And then the other game they lost after
scoring five goals against the same to day Sharks. So
it's like, remember, it is just pathetic how bad this
(13:59):
team has been. And they're the best team on the road,
which is even like they're like.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
They're unstoppable on the road and they cannot do a
damn thing at home if they if they blow the
game tonight, then.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
We know it's not funny. It would be so funny.
Something's in the water at MSG. I don't know something. Yeah,
they afford to one on the Predators. You know, obviously
are a welcome site into m S G one three
and two away and we are six and one at home.
That is just funny. Uh Yeah, gavrikovs Abandon, Jader and
(14:37):
Lafrenier all the goals. They needed that gay pro on
the power play, the first point, the first point season. Yeah,
I love pro. They needed some youth injection into this
lineup because it's just it's been terrible.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
They put them, They put them right on the power play,
which is good and it gives a point.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah, obviously the.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Right Now my fear about the Rangers right now, they're
gonna start singing at home with this game. So this
game was perfect. Nashville comes in, they suck. The Rangers
can hopefully continue this way and then they're gonna go
on the road start Wednesday and they're gonna come back
down to earth. So they played Tampa on Wednesday, so yeah,
that's why it's gonna happen. Yeah, that makes sense, it
does it make sense.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
There's talks a lot, you know, this is earlier last week,
so I went to get too much into it, but
that just justice in Noonan the that he knocked off
the net and they scored h So that yeah, I mean,
I understand the rule, but what I didn't like is
Johansson got a shot off as the net was being
taken off, and the only reason he got the puck
(15:46):
back onto his stick to shoot again was because he
hit it off the net, and the net because it
was off, actually pushed it back to his stick where
you know, if it wasn't that way, he might not
gotten the puck right back. It would have been a
stoppager play. I don't know. I thought was a little weird,
But I don't think he didn't even have to shoot it.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
I think it was automatically awarded because they said whatever,
whoever the goalie was, noon In or whatever knocked off,
knocked it off purposely.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
So yeah, I mean, how many times do you see
a guy, you know, use the post to push off
and it's yeah to say he did it on purpose,
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
That was a weird one, and that was that. That
was the game winner.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Yeah, overtime game winner. That's crazy. First time?
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Can you mention that? Can you mention that happening in
a playoff game?
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Yeah, oh my bed, if that happened to my team,
we could only we could I don't want the house
to be better of that, but we can only hope
that happens to the That would be.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I can't even imagine. I don't even know what I
would do. I'm so angry right now.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
We would need a camera in the house. It would be,
oh my god, one of the most fantastic video pieces
of videos that way. I don't want to about it.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
It's making me upset now. I don't want to think
about it.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
No, all right, let's talk a little bit about the
Hall of famers, because obviously NHL inducted eight members into
the National Hockey Fame Hockey Hall of Fame. Did you
you've seen who it is?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Right?
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Obviously the I.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Only saw like Jumbo, Joe and Chara and uh so Duncan,
Keith right, Duncy. Yeah, so you have uh Chara Thornton, Duncan, Keith,
Brandon Decker, Jennifer Bottrell, and then you also have two
(17:35):
uh elder statesmen.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Where did I know? I just lost the Hockey Hall
of Fame? Come on, stupid, I don't know why I
can't pull this up. This is fantastical. Uh oh yeah, mcilney.
We forgot mcgilney, which is a great one. And then
Jack Parker, h coach at Boston College. Uh and actually
(18:01):
Clarkson wore my dad went uh and Danielle saw the year.
So sorry Danielle because you're probably better than that. But
you know, Bottrell obviously one of the great hockey women.
Brandon Decker, same thing. Awesome female hockey stars, Zadana Chara
who you know, everyone talks about the fitness routine and
(18:22):
all this stuff, but he was just a monster play
against and and very well deserving mcgilney, who everyone's clamored this,
this guy should have been in ten years ago.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
But wow, just.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Joe Thornton, who when you know, when you look at
this guy, he epitomizes fun. But then also just you know,
he's one of four people with eleven hundred assists. He
was not, you know, one of the ultimate millions. Like
every year, yes, you always watching them, you' seen it
and so good the stats every year for assist. Yeah.
The only one that I wasn't so sure of. And
(18:55):
then when I went back and looked, I was like,
oh yeah, he probably douncan Keith he was just so
staff Edi and yeah, you know there I think there
was only one year that he actually was like the
top point getter. But he you know, you go back
and look at Duncan Keith and he was he you know,
he's on Team Canada and he obviously had helped he
was he was Chicago's Backhawks. Yeah, teams two cups, three
(19:16):
straight or not three straight, but three cups in his
tenure with them. And you know, he was named one
of one hundred greatest players in the NHL when they
came out that what.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Was it.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Two years ago or whatever that was, and I got
five to one five one. Wow, I gotta watch this game. Uh,
sixty nine points in in twenty nine and ten when
they won the Cup, and you know he said not
a big goal scorer. Fourteen was the career high, but
just did everything right, played all situations. You know, averaged
twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight minutes a night for
(19:47):
some of these teams he played.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
He was like one of those guys that could like
play the whole game.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yeah. Yeah, there's too many of the those. Yeah, Like
when you think about those guys, it's actually pretty interesting
to kind of go through this now obviously Duncan Keith
you think about it now, Uh, what's his name from Florida?
Former uh Clumbus Blue Jacket and National predator. Oh my god,
(20:13):
defense defense. No, no, no, no, he was just treated
their last off season or last season before the Cup run.
Seth Seth Jones, Seth Jones. Yeah, like he can play
all those minutes. Yeah, obviously Headman is one of those guys,
like the guys that can do power play, penalty kill
(20:34):
and then just play like log multiple minutes like those
guys I was trying to think of. But yeah, good stuff.
So congrats all those guys. Uh, well deserving Marshan with
his seven game point streak. He's going into Vegas tonight,
so we'll see how this. And you said you had
some picks. Let's let's do that real quick game. Well
(20:55):
to the game the Rangers.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yeah, I was gonna pick the Rangers anyway because of
my theory winning at home and then suck on the road.
So hopefully that comes true. And as right now, it's
five to one end of the second so they're looking
pretty good. If they blow this game in the third period,
if they lose this game, I don't know, like I
think we get to slap you if they lose this game,
(21:18):
that's fine. I was gonna pick what's the other game?
Devil's is something else? The Devil's at home because they've
been unbelieved. I think they're undefeated at home, aren't they.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
I think they are.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
Yeah, I think they're like seven and oh at home.
So it's one one and then two for that one
and then what are the other games? Uh?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
I mean, I'll take the Islanders, but that's just cause, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Okay, take le Oh, Columbus and Edmonton. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
They just got absolutely destroyed in their home barn like Colorado.
Columbus is you know, not Colorado by any means, But
I don't know. I think you got to have a
bounce back game here. He's like, you can't after that performance,
you think they're.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Going to come out. Yeah, so I gotta go up
whatever goals? Yeah, give them whatever goal? Total little they
they're accounting for, so and that.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
I hate them. So Vegas, Yeah, Vegas. It's a good,
good rod of picks right there. Yeah, last right now
the division, So screw them.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
I hope that's great. Yeah, I mean I listen, they've
they've had a they have injuries, injuries out the Ying Yang,
which is you know, has been tough. So they're not
you know, playing with a full deck, which you know,
we were not totally upset about. But yeah, I just
they they're not that good of a team in the moment,
(22:46):
the current moments. So all right, what did I have?
I had a bunch of stuff. Yeah, so the New
York Rangers are at home or genuinely the worst team
in hockey. We talked about it. Seven games played shut
out five times, seven six total goals, five coming in
one game which they lost, which is amazing. It really,
I mean, there's nothing else you can say. It is.
(23:08):
It is that pathetic. It was that bad of like
a run. Let's hope this game kind of stands that.
But we talked about Colorado nine to one. McDavid just
was utterly pissed. And if I was him, I would
have just one of the you know, GM's office have
been like, if you don't get me a goalie, I'm
gonna leave. But yeah, so there was the report, hey
(23:30):
maybe did there was the poor but Jeff Merrick that
the others were linked to YUSA Sorros. You know, no
nothing official, but just that they're just tires, which I
mean I would do. I would give anything that.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I mean, yeah, you got to give up like a
want a boltload. I guess to maybe get them, but you.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Got to right whatever, whatever they say, you gotta do. Right.
If it's two three firsts just to get the guy
that you know is that he's that. I think that
legitimately the thing that they are missing the most.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Yeah, so I don't know if like the team in
front of the goalie has to be good. Also, like
they got to be like very structured defensively. I don't
know if Edmonton is like that structured defensively. I think
they could use one.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
More defenseman because I like Wollman. Obviously Bouchard they're not
gonna get rid of him. Ack Holme has always been,
you know, steady. I think they are missing that other
top four defenseman. But I mean, if you're really gonna,
you know, pick one or the other, I think it's goaltender.
And I don't even Yeah, obviously.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
They need they need an upgrading goal like we've been
saying that for freaking I don't even know how long years.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yeah, it feels like left and.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah and he was like old as hell and still
it was very good for that. But like they like
never draft or develop goalies, they never try to sign
a goalie or trade for a goalie. Well I guess
they signed goalies, just not the right ones. But holy hell,
and like, yeah, do it, I guess, do what you
gotta do. Go out, pay a premium, get a goalie.
(25:06):
Like what are you gonna give up? You're not gonna
give up you know, your top two studs or anything?
Give up? I don't know. No, you have other pieces
you can you can trade.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Out anything, give up something good? Uh? Iver did? Forget
this Joe Thorne's story. So Jason de Murs was on
a podcast and he was talking about how Thornton wanted
to bring the team together. This was, Uh, I forgot
what year he said this was. It was it was
a during his career with just Amrves on the team,
and he wanted to bring him better together. So he
(25:37):
took the bathroom doors, like the stall doors off their hinges,
so that you would have to take a you know,
use the toilet in front of everybody else. So if
you were taking a you know, number two, the door
was wide open and it was right next to where
the showers are, so people in the showers would walk
right by you as you're you know, letting the kids
(25:58):
off of the pool. And and he said that no
one for about two weeks went around the toilet to
drop you know, deuce. But he would that, you know,
uh Jumbo would just sit there and talk to people
as he's you know, uh using the toilet. And it
was one of those things where it just brought everybody together,
(26:20):
you know, the the openness of the locker room. So
I thought it was very funny that take a look, yeah,
real bonding.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Jesus.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
There's a couple of stuff because obviously the Rangers just
had their hundred years you're having the one hundred year celebration,
and they brought in Yoger and he was talking with
a bunch of people and they were talking. They got
into like stuff about Danius Zubris and Yager was saying
that he's shutting me down. Who knows where I could
(26:51):
be if I didn't have him on my line, I
would be an all star. This was when he was
playing with the Devils and Zubris was on his line
as a linemate, and that he was saying that Subris
was shutting Yager down as a teammate because he was,
you know, playing so bad. And he goes, I got
traded from Pittsburgh and had one hundred twenty points. They
put me with Zubras on the line and I had seventy,
so it was a fifty percent drop. So it wasn't
(27:11):
a good move. But after ten years he's a little
bit better. Another one was if if if they use
you in a shootout before me, I'm going to ask
to be traded, Yager said, with a laugh, before giving
up more thought. No, I'm going to retire, he said instead.
Yaga joked that it was a thrill playing with him
with Zubras, but then Zuber's countered, well, it wasn't very mutual.
(27:33):
I was. Yager is unable to stop laughing. He said,
tell them how you would shut me down in Washington.
Yaga referenced how Zubras should have won the Sulky Trophy
for shutting him down misscoring, and he said what They
asked him, what role does Zubers play? And Yager goes,
I'm trying to figure that out. I don't know. Give
me a month. Yoga is so awesome talking about obviously
(27:55):
one of his former teammates, Daniszubris, but very good funny.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I think I saw something. He just met those guys
that are the Traveling Yagers. Whatever game they were all
just at like he just he.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Was it.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
I don't know. I thought whatever game was, it was
over the weekend. I think whatever game, and he met
up with them and I guess, you know, took pictures
and stuff with them. So that's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
You had joyed the chord for Seattle. He was playing
against Chicago, and Chicago the empty net and he shot
twice at the open net. Did you see that? No,
so he tried joined the chord and he goes shoot
shoot that was his quote, shoot shoot Like that.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Was pretty good. I remember saying that now yep.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Uh. And then lastly, uh, we talked about well Rangers
gotten you know, better defensively, just can't score. Uh. They
had the whole thing. They give that to defensive an
analysis for the year defensive rating, Gaverkov was number one
at three point eight. So this is defense rating done
by h.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
H.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Who is it? Fireside content? I think it was for
the defensive metrics. Brandon McNabb two, Adam Fox three Theodore,
four Heischen and five, Will Borgan, six Essel indel Ian Cole,
Gustav Worsley, and Bran Clark. Brent Clark was of surprise
on that list at ten, obviously known for more offense
than anything else. That was pretty much it for that.
(29:35):
I had my agenda. I was going to quickly, you know,
they'd talk more and more about the NHL and the
Olympics coming up and who they think could possibly you know,
and be in line. Obviously, you know, ESPN takes their
crack at it, which you know, I Ryan Clark is
a decent reporter, but uh, you know, he's he did
(29:55):
a roster breakdown who thought would make a team USA
and he did not have Logan Cooley in it, which
I thought was just blasphemous. Who did this? Ryan Clark
from ESPN another you know, obviously ESPN knows a lot
about hockey.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Isn't Ryan football player?
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Yeah it's not the same guy. It's he's a he's
a guy from Vancouver. Yeah he's a Vancouver uh well
Vancouver born or whatever. But yeah, he had Gaensel, Matthews,
hughes Ka, Chuck Michael Ka, Chuck Miller, Larkin Boldie Keller,
Taje Thompson, Kyle Connor and his extras were Nyes and Cawfield,
(30:37):
and he left out who I think should be on
the team in Logan Cooley. But you know, eleven goals, he's.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Somebody's somebody's gonna be left off this team. There's just
enough space for all these guys, and that's gonna suck.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I know the Cawfield's a sniper and all that stuff,
and you know, maybe you don't need nis, but I
feel like Cooley has to be in there over one
of those two.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
I don't know, I'd like the same. I'd like to
see him on there. I don't know if he'll be there,
but I would like to see him there.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
And then for Canada, he did not have badard or
he did not have a badard. And there's someone else
who's missing. I for and I'm blanking on it, but
he had Tom Wilson and Maclin celebranis actress. Tom Wilson
should not be on Team Canada. There's no fighting like
it was in the Four Nations tournament. It's this is IHF,
(31:26):
so a player like that is essentially useless. And Tom
Wilson is a useless player.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
I mean, unless you want that kind of game for Canada,
you want to be tougher to play against, I guess
or something with him in your lineup. But yeah, I
don't know. I think, yeah, leave him off. I'm sure
he wants to play obviously. Yah.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Yeah, I mean I would want to play too. Just yeah,
it's ridiculous. Yeah, that's pretty much all I got. Canada
is obviously holding on the players to fill out the
Olympic roster. They they said the goaltending is a wide
open competition. Uh and bnard Celebrandy got their attention. Yeah,
that was Doug Armstrong who had those beautiful comments. The
(32:06):
coal tending is a wide open you know, if you
look at like everyone's been horrible. Bennington has not been good.
H Montebau is long gone because he's been awful, like.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Pretty much he's not even the starter anymore. And St.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Louis is terrible there. Yeah, I mean shaf could now
make it. Uh yeah yeah, Monteau, Aiden Hill could I
guess be there, you know, to look, and Thomas probably
be in there. Scott Wedgwood should probably be in there now. Yeah.
The goltending is just just pretty.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Just like I can name like probably four or five
countries that are better goltending than then. Yeah, at least crazy.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
The top four. Obviously US uh, Russia should absolutely get
up there. Finland's better, Sweden's better, Checchia might be better
to like, it's.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Both of them have stud goal isn't what's his face? Uh?
What is he?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Swiss? I forget what's uh no, sorrow sorros Is finished
not finish, yeah, finished Swiss?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
He like is he checked or something or Swiss? I
don't know, he's something else, he's check you I put
him above any of the Canada goalies.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, uc sorros Is. I thought he was.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Oh he's finished, that's right, Yeah he's finished.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Yeah, yeah he'll be you know, ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
M I didn't realize that. Jacob true but leads the
league and plus minus.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Yeah, he's doing awesome. I was gonna get to that
in the end. Uh yeah, yep, we always do that.
I don't Yeah, the it just wait, it's funny again,
it always it just keeps getting better sometimes. Here this
is for uh, let's go to Sweden. Yes, Sweden's goaltenders.
(34:16):
They say it's mark Strom, Gustafson and Olmark, Finland, Sorrows,
Lankanin and Ukapeclugnin and then finally Chechia Do Staal, Dobish
and den Vlador. Pretty good. Yeah, they're they're actually not
a bad team. You know, Phil Bronck, Radko Gudis could
(34:37):
do without him, David yurchek Uh even Lee or Hyak.
Their defense is a little meh, but you know forwards
Zaka Pasternak, Natus Hurdle, Yuri Koolich, which we'll see if
it was back there. Obviously your boy plot, Foxa Kubleik,
Thomas Chik, Phil Heatel.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Not the greatest, but good ones. Yeah that's too bad.
All right, let's do our quick plus minus and then
we'll get out of here. It'll be a shorter episode. Uh,
not much going on tonight with the games.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
We talked about it. Obviously, Nate dogg fourteen goals at Caulfield,
twelve assists, you have Nate is ted for sixth, but
you have Malcolm with eighteen Malkins on the tear plus
minus is true, but sixteen Nikashin's fourteen swim who is
(35:35):
the worst at minus sixteen on the year, Jesus who
actually was the number one it was the same guy. Oh,
I don't remember who the hell was, damn it. Mackenzie
Wiger at minus sixteen, his teammate Matt Second at minus thirteen. Calgary.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Yeah, Calgary is the worst team in the league, aren't they?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah? Worst in the league. Who leads who leads the
league in paplay goals?
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Do you know.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Who's got the best power play? I did. I would
not have thought about this player. Oh, the person who
leads the league and power play goals? Yeah, that person?
Uh huh. I has ten assists, but Wyatt Johnston has
really seven. I was gonna say it's gotta be something
out West. Yeah, and then tied for four with game
(36:22):
winning goals Dylan Gunther and Seth Jarvis. It's pretty nice goalies.
What do you call it?
Speaker 2 (36:29):
I think Utah's cooled off a little bit. They were
like hot they have to start and now they've kind
of I think they've lost a couple in a row
now and they've cooled off a little bit.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Thompson and Ladar are leading in the goals against. Thompson's
doing really well right now.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
For the last game against Tampa, that was the first
time he let up more than two goals all season.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Yeah, yeah, less him and Spencer Night are doing pretty
well in sabercentage. So altogether, goaltenders, even you know, the
tops are doing really well with the bottoms. Like some
of the worst goal you know goalies Hoffer and the
Card and Mark Strom, Charlie ndren A scar Off have
not been very good. Mont and bow we talked about him. Yeah,
(37:09):
it's uh crazy. Some of those guys are like top
teams in the league. Yeah, yeah, it's nuts. All right,
let's get out of here. My beer, the butter beer.
I go to four pretty solid.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Butter but.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
I'm gonna go three, seven, five And that's red raspberry.
What else is it it? It's a raspberries, lemon and
hibiscus apparently. Okay, interesting, not bad. Take your home.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
I'm gonna finish this h with this podcast with a
Homer another Homer quote. When the fire starts to burn,
there's a lesson. You must learn something something, then you
you'll avoid catastrophe.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Don't don't
