(01:20):
Spotify and iHeartRadio. Please a fist review, if be ever
so kind. Uh, that was much more seamless because I
have an iPad and a phone at the same time,
so I'm doing multiple things while I'm going I like it, boys, obviously,
I said leave it's fuss review. What are we drinking?
Speaker 5 (01:40):
I'm still going down my trip here and I've poured
myself a nice glass.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Of so how many different ones is this in a row?
Speaker 5 (01:49):
This is one, two, three, four, five, I believe this
is five and Hendricks I had a grand cabaret. I
believe I think I had three different Hendricks, and then
I had forty seven monkeys, and now this is no
lays try gin. I'll try to have another one. Well, no,
I won't be here next week, but I'll try to
have one, a different one for the following week and
(02:09):
we'll see how long I can let make this last.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
It's it's too bad you did not save the one
that I got you from Scotland.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
It was drunk and enjoyed, drink, drink and enjoyed.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah, I got another one that maybe we can do
a podcast together, and we could do it. It's a
it's a really cool bottle too here, actually want to
go get it. While Shwim tells us his.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
Just get hammered on one of our pods all together
while drinking gin.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
I mean, have you have you had gin?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Me?
Speaker 5 (02:46):
I mean besides like a Gin and tonic, No, Gin
and ginger is my go to? Oh yeah, okay, I
feel like I feel like I knew that.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Yeah, gin and juice lead back and juice.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
I know that. I yeah, I don't know that. I
want that to be honest, I don't know what would you.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Put what kind of juice would you actually do with gin?
And juice. I don't know. I guess it's just apple orae.
That's what I did in Huese.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
I gotta plug my computer. God damn it, she used
the battery.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Recipe. You can create a classic version of gin and
juice with gin, orange and grapefruit juice, or add simple
srut for sweetness.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
I don't like. I don't want any of that.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
You can use sweeter options like orange, passion fruit or
even strawberry strawberry.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
I will stick with tonic and maybe a little bit
of lime or a nice gin martini, or preferably just
straight so this would pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
I'm saving this for when I come with you.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
Guess what is it called?
Speaker 4 (03:58):
No, no, no, This is called Inverness Gin. It's Great
Glen Distillery and it's actually produced right outside of Luckness.
And they use the lock water in the process. I
don't know. They don't actually use all that full of why.
I think they use it in the cooling process. They
don't actually use it in like the cookie like, you
(04:19):
don't actually consume any of it. Deep tones of kambu,
kelp seaweed and golden Chantrell's added layers of aromatic fennel seed,
an elderflower that finishes with the high bright tones of
citrus fruit. So pretty cool. Small batch, So that small batches.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Which I can't pinpoint any of those flavors at all
at any point.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
No, I can't either. Courtesy of my sister in law,
I'm going with a beer from China called Harbin be Boss.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Okay, so we're drinking Chinese.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Yeah, and it's really cool. It's one of those tops
where you you like pull off and it basically just
roll off that whole section. Yeah. Oh that almost broke.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Then. Kendall was rookie for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Still has
no assists, but he has four goals.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
That's Heneken. God damn it. Everything's Heineken. It really is.
It's horrible.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Sim's dealing with technical difficulties, it seems.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, that's wonderful.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Like literally, we can't get through any kind of intro.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
We can't. It's a disaster. This this has become a
complete disaster. Uh yeah. And of course there's no me
and Steven. There's only me and shwim. Oh actually, here,
let's see if this works. Oh yeah, try let's two
for right now until I.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
See it comes back.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Uh yeah, I'm rocking today with the button pushing, which
is really good.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
All right, and wait for two button.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Let's go to what's on tap for today's episode. Here's
our weekly snapshot. Sam Goos said, this is a Chinese
knockoff beer. It might be Sam h harb and B Boss.
Sam tell me what what it actually reads? Off sudden
my message and he can tell me. We can see. Uh,
let's see swim might be back on swim.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
Nope, No, he's got help now at least.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Nope. Uh oh there he goes, all right, well, yeah,
so we're doing really well right now. Uh and yeah,
we're doing actually as well as the New York Rangers
at Madison.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
What a tie is that?
Speaker 5 (06:52):
One?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Was it?
Speaker 4 (06:53):
One?
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Overtime loss? I think that's about That's about how we
how we work on this podcast is Sam don't want
one reads one point?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Sam goes here. I love Sam. Will Sam come on
in and and talk with us a little bit here?
Speaker 7 (07:14):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (07:14):
If you if you want to, we're actually gonn talk
about Jack Hughes and how he's just diving her knees.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
But yeah, he's talking about windless.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Right now, windless ms g shwim Nope, nope not be there. Yeah,
I can't.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
If you if you could read lips?
Speaker 4 (07:35):
So this is fantastic there viewershim.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Can you hear it?
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Dives down and frozen?
Speaker 5 (07:51):
I mean we're entertaining else maybe or at least I'm so.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
I mean, what's gonna happen is a lot of people.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
I heard something?
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah? Jesus h oh me and Stephen own a grand
old time over here. Oh goodness, yeah it was.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
It was fun. I enjoyed that.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
Did you hear how many curses? I was saying, Okay,
there's a lot of expletives flying.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
I could read lips.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Yep. Yeah, it was very good for him. Thank you
very much. You you always add a levity to this podcast.
Speaker 5 (08:30):
And laughed at heart since I was a little girl.
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Uh shrom. We were talking about how this podcast is
going as as well as the Rangers at at Madison
Square Garden so not good at all and uh yeah,
so fantastic from an outsider, We'll do this way. What
are you guys thoughts on the New York Rangers at
this present moment? If you've seen anything or what you've heard,
(08:55):
and then I'll kind.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Of find I mean I'll be quicknings from kid to
give his opinion. I mean, at some points they look
so I'm talking as an outsider. So again, I haven't
watched every second of every game, but I've watched, you know,
a handful of them, and I Hey, Justin connick leiras
tuning in. Hey, welcome Justin. Sorry as I'm just as
(09:17):
I'm about to talk to Smack about the well, not
really talking to Smack about the Rangers. It's my observation
is that I'm seeing a lot of like what I
saw with Pittsburgh under Sullivan. And again, I don't want
to go ahead and just say like that, I don't
want to blame Sullivan completely, but it's I guess it's
it's either a coincidence. Well, yes, I don't think Sullivan
was given the right roster for his game plan. But
(09:39):
sometimes they just look completely and utterly lifeless. And that
was something I saw with Pittsburgh specifically over the last
two seasons. Just some games I just aren't there and
can't finish. Also finish, Yeah, So I mean they lost
(10:01):
at least at MSG they lost two games one nothing,
but was it two games one nothing? They lost and
they lost to Pittsburgh three nothing, which two of those
goals for empy nets. But I mean that's three of
the four losses right there, if you don't count the
overtime loss. And that's I mean, the fact that you're
not scoring at home is kind of a pretty big problem.
(10:22):
And like what I see is I don't see a
whole lot of energy across the board. There the only
one who's really crazy, yeah, I mean Shastrikins, like the
only one who seems to be in character game at
this point.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yeah. And this is a team that's won three straight.
So in their road trip, they are six one and
one away from the Garden, they're four and one at home.
They are still in the second wild card. This is
after being pretty much dead last as of three games ago,
when they were in that losing streak going on. True,
(10:58):
And I know you're pretty used to losing right now. Uh,
what do you think about.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
About the New York Well, we've only won five straight.
But you know that's fine.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
I know, give you here we go, here we go, Yeah,
lay into them, shwim let's hear it.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
I should I can't wait. I hope we go to
that game at Mass Square Garden. We will uh whatever
that is that's this month, isn't it?
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Whatever?
Speaker 6 (11:22):
Ye, it's the Saturday. It's like were your Rangers? To me,
it's it's like a tale of two teams. They go
out on the road and they look like a pretty
good team. They're like, where are they? They're six and
one on the road? Yeah, free straight there, and then
they come back home and they just look like utter garbage.
They're they're not They're definitely not scoring enough. I think
they're one of the lowest scoring teams and for the
amount of games that they played, they're one of the
(11:43):
lowest scoring teams. There's other teams who have played less
and have I think scored five to ten goals more
than they have at this point.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
So I don't know the crack and only the crack
and have less goals scored for a current playoff team
at thirty versus Rangers thirty.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
One, and the Rangers are in the last wild card
at this point, right there, still there in the playoffs technically.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Yeah, so Kracking actually have the least goals scored in
the league at thirty Rangers and Calgary tied at thirty one.
But on the up flip side, and how many more
goals scored. Uh, Kracking have eleven, Calgary is fourteen, and
Rangers have thirteen. And then on the flip side, the
(12:33):
most goals scored. Yeah, the most goals scored right now
is forty eight and it's by a non playoff team.
Can you tell me what team has the most goals
scored this season that is not a playoff team?
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Is it Buffalo?
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Nope? Ottawa, same division, Ottawa centers forty eight goals for
It's because their goals against is fifty one, which also
is is that the it is is that the most?
It is the most tied first, it's the second most.
San Jose is fifty three. Saint Louis and Ottawa both
(13:10):
are fifty one.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
While we're on that, while we're on the topic of
while we're on the topic of stats, here I came
across and this doesn't have Again we're going off topic
with what to think of the Rangers, but it does
kind of involve them. I was looking up because us
as curious why. I was like, Pittsburgh's having a great season,
why do they have so few power plays? So I
(13:33):
decided to look in to see, like what the number
of power plays are in the league. They are tied
for the fewest power plays per game with the New
Jersey Devils. Same amount of games, same amount of power
plays called and.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
One in the midst power play is called for them.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Per game, Yes, power plays called per yes, power plays
per game. And to extrapolate that, for whatever reason, in
and it's biled pretty significant margin, the entire Metro Division
has significantly fewer power plays per game than any other
division in the league. And I'm trying to figure and
who has the most power plays is the Calgary Flames.
(14:15):
So it's like, what exactly is happening for like the
In fact, I believe it was, I didn't. I don't
have the numbers up now, but I believe it's at
least the either the top two or within the top
three or four, the two worst teams in the league
have the most power plays in the in the league currently.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
I wonder, Yeah, that's interesting. Maybe it's uh, you know,
the refs feel bad for Calgary kind of thing, but
just the Metro because it's also with points of each
other in the Metro.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Yeah, but like what what is what? Like what makes it?
Because I understand that, like, you know, teams that don't
that don't dominate possession typically don't get a lot of
power plays because the teams that dominate possession usually you
have teams taking penalties against them because of the reason
that they're they just have the puck all the time.
But you know, these are the Devils in the and
the Penguins are two of the top teams in the league,
and they have the the the least amount of power
(15:08):
penalties called in their favor. Now, I don't have I
wish Shorts guy is here to give his theory for
because I don't watch all the Devil's games, but the
Penguins games. I mean, I'm watching I'm seeing, you know,
stuff that both ways. I don't know if Sam has
any any idea on this. I would think because you're seeing,
like I was complaining about the refs, I think this
(15:29):
past weekend or maybe last week at some point, and
it is and it's it's it's across the league. I'm
not just going to say that the Penguins are are
targeted here, but because I know the officiating is just
getting worse and worse and worse. But there's so many
times where like they call this like non existent penalty
and just like why like and the disparity in games,
(15:50):
you'll see teams go five power plays to one, four
plowers take place to one. In Pittsburgh's against Anaheim, it
was seven power plays to one. So, Sam, I don't
know about the Devils. I don't understand because Pittsburgh's doing
pretty good as far as dominating possession. They're just not
getting any calls. And I don't know if you have
any theory as to why the Devils are also not
getting any calls.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Which which theory you want, conspiracy theory or.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Oh we want we want to con The thing is like,
the thing is like I get it because you can
say you can say conspiracy theory, but I mean, the
thing is like the Penguins and the Devil, and the
Penguins and the Devils have the exact amount of games
played and the exact amount of power plays and favors.
So it's like something's happening between both teams and I'm
not I can't exactly put my finger on it. And
they're both having very good success in the power play.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
I might add too, I if you want my conspiracy theory,
I think the NHL wants the league to be balanced.
And sometimes like I've always noticed that if the Devils
are doing something well, like their power play, if they're
number one for the past few seasons, to start the season,
(17:01):
they're like number one or maybe top five in the
power play, and then all of a sudden, you see
that they're not drawing any penalties, like all of a sudden,
like you know, you take that away. I'm off camera
right now. I'm kind of trying to fix this.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
You're kind of on camera looking good the flow, Sam.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
You.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Got some hockey hair going on. It's awesome.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Yeah, I know. You know.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
The ladies are I have to kind of show them
away already married.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
He's married, ladies.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
Relax stop DM, Sam.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yeah, mentioned yeah, let me be an old grumpy man.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
You know.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
So so Sam about outsider?
Speaker 5 (17:52):
Outsiders? Why outsiders?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Why?
Speaker 5 (17:54):
What is what? The what's what the penalty calls? Do
we have any theories or is it just that it's
just a weird It's just a weird coincidence and the appreciating.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Is just one of those things that happens. What it
comes down to, I think so.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
Yeah, I think it's just one of it is weird
that it's it's it's also it's weird. That's the entire metro.
The entire metro has the fewest by a significant margin,
power percentage of power plays per game.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
If they can link at the certain what refs are
refing the that division and.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Maybe follow following the metro around.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Yeah, you helped Stephen with this beautiful title. I mean,
the fan what is the Devil's fan perspective on the
New York Rangers?
Speaker 5 (18:47):
They suck?
Speaker 6 (18:51):
All right?
Speaker 7 (18:51):
I finally got this and figured out I moved towards
it's still trying to figure out my camera, all right.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Anyway, it shows that I went to McDonald's the other
day that other anyway, Look right now, we're not.
Speaker 7 (19:12):
Even thinking about the New York Rangers right now because
the Devils don't play the Rangers till March. The schedules,
so after.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
This messed up, that's the first time.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
It's yeah, first time.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
I think it's in March, March seventh.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
It's so dumb. And I think that's one that's one
you put like every ten games.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
Yeah, and I think that the Penguins play the Rangers
three times this season. They already played, they already played twice,
like twice in the first something like that.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
It is so ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Do I look better with this angle?
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Sam? Always look now, it.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Doesn't look like I had an egg McMuffin the other
day with the hash brown.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
You had salad. You'd salad on top of it, salid?
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah, salad, you know, sprinkled over all right, So.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
All right, right now, anyway, there we go.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Anyway, so we're off the rails.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
Uh, Honestly, Billy Dean, nobody, nobody in New Jersey really
cares about the Rangers. But if we see a blurb
saying that haven't won a home game where get shut
out three straight home games to start the season, you know,
and it's a record and that's never happened in NHL history. Yeah,
well we'll comment about it, you know all that. But
(20:39):
right now, I think the Devil's fans are more worried
about this team the health going on with a lot
of the players. I mean, there's a lot of players
that injured right now.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
All right, So I sent you I sent you the
the the little video from that other podcast prior. And
I don't think that he was going after we're talking
talking about the hit or what that that not the hit,
but Gabriel Landis Cog in the in the Last Colorado
Devil's Game, you know, has a clean shot at Jack Hughes,
(21:11):
and Hughes. Hughes is a fantastic skater, so I don't
think that any of us think that he just trips
and falls and that's how it happened. But he goes
to his knees just as Landis Cogg is about to
initiate contact, and people are claiming that, oh, hey, you
know he's going after his knees, that's a dirty play.
I actually think that Hughes was doing something differently, kind
(21:32):
of like what that podcast was saying, where he goes
to his knees to almost not get hit, and he
puts himself in an even worse position, which I think
is really bad. Yep, Kat what I'm sure Sam you've
seen it, You've why are yes? A lot of your
(21:58):
thoughts on that on the Jack Hue was Landis Cog
you know play.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
I just think that whoever the I don't think I
believe I saw that clip.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Did you did you actually send that to me? Look
at that?
Speaker 5 (22:16):
That was the home game?
Speaker 6 (22:17):
That was that was a couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
Was that when they that was when they beat when
they beat Colorado, right, or was that the other day
when they lost to Colorado the other I thought that
was that was in Colorado. I thought that was in Colorado.
I was at home. I think it doesn't matter, It
doesn't really matter when.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
It was at Colorado, right.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
No, I think it was that it was the Devil's
wearing the red. So I was when they were home.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
Yeah, okay, I'm watching it now.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
I think I mean, I think short and I think
it was a reckless way of avoiding a hit. I
think that's just basically what is Alandas supposed to do there.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Yeah, well he puts himself in a bad, bad place
to get just destroyed.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
Yeah, are people people are saying this is a dirty
hit by Lancecock.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
No, I don't think it was. I think it was
a reckless I think it was a reckless Can.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
You guys send that clip to me? I can't find it.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
I'll do it again, but yeah, send that maybe.
Speaker 6 (23:19):
Yeah that'll stupid.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Immediately unnecessarily long. Yeah, it's it's it's a weird play,
but he's definitely just trying to avoid the hit and
it just ends up being its du dumbest Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Yeah, I think it's even more reckless for himself because
this is a guy that's had concussion issues and has
just injury.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
You know. Yeah, I mean it was it was reckless,
like you just like, that's not how you avoid a hit.
And he I'm sure he, I'm sure he knows that
after looking at it and probably luckily luckily neither was hurt.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
So yeah, but yeah, So obviously we've been in Sam
Wilson was watching that we can kind of go on
talk to these things. But you know, as we've been
kind of watching the NHL unfold, a lot of contracts
coming out, uh, especially.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
You already know what the problem is. I already know
what the problem is. Sorry, you know how much I
hate wah wah. Right, I hate.
Speaker 8 (24:26):
That wah wah sign was the cause of jacket hues
falling right in front of Atlantis GG problems solved.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Telling that podcaster to do their research.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Next to the Calandra's sign, you know, the Colander's a
Bakery sign they sponsored the New Jersey Devils.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
You gotta get some hits, no pun intended, all right,
So that's my.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
We appreciate what th Devil's uh you know, marks from
agreeing to your extension. I know that Let's Go Devils
has talked about that. I listened and yesterday the uh
other big ones Logan Cooley with a monster eight year deal.
You had Thomas Harley another eight year deal. Who was
(25:15):
the other one that just signed eight years? Oh? Uh
neckass yep, neck ass eleven and a half per year.
I think Harley got ten and a half, a little
over ten and a half, and then Cooley got like
almost nine, a little over nine. Uh mean we talked
about this last week.
Speaker 6 (25:34):
Yeah, monster, last.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Week he got over Yeah, I know you got over
eleven or ten and a half or something. Did cool
you get ten and a half?
Speaker 6 (25:43):
That's what Yeah, that's what I said. I thought Cooley
got like ten something.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
Yeah, Cooly got a lot. He definitely got double digits.
So did neck Gass. I'm pretty sure.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
All right, Oh yeah we got cool. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Do you just call them neck ass?
Speaker 6 (25:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (26:00):
That's pretty I wish I wish I would have known that.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Little Steve I could have used it in the past
couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I've been.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Hockey game right there.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Yeah, neck ass. Thomas Thomas Hardy got ten point five
eight per season, five eight kind of big contract. So
he's obviously those those these guys are getting paid, and
there's gonna be no one left in free agency. It's
gonna kind of suck.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
But yeah, I mean we also like this is a
precedent for I mean this contract. I don't like everybody's
getting double digit yeah, at average average salaries for the
for the cap. I mean, it's just like everyone's getting
ten plus.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
What is going to get.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
Double digits. I don't know what's gonna get. Can't pay
is definitely.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Double want to stay, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (27:01):
I don't know. He says he does, but I don't
believe anything anyone says.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Yeah, that's also true, Cafe.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
Yeah, Tuck, he's absolutely getting top dollars.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Oh yeah, he should, I mean King should want to
resign him. That's a good score. Absolutely, yep, especially with
the garbage they signed in the past offseason.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
The teams, you know, the teams at the top of
the the standings Montre Canadians eighteen, Detroit Red Wings eighteen,
you have the Devils and Penguins at eighteen each in
the Metro and then the Western Conference Avs and Jets
nineteen and eighteen, and then you have Ducks Knights, Crazy
Oilers at fifteen. So the three teams that really stand
(27:49):
out to me in these standings, So we'll even go four.
Montree Canadians leading the Atlantic at eighteen points. They've been
extremely good, eight and two in their last ten and
they are four and one at home. You have the
Utah Mammoth eight and four, sixteen points second, sorry, we'll
(28:11):
technically third in the Western Conference. And then the Ducks
fifteen points seven, three and one. They are winners of
three straight. All young teams that are ascending, and I
think some have some of the best scorers in the league.
Ben Bennett Senekey with the Ducks has been having an
awesome rookie season. The same thing. Yeah, they have obviously
(28:36):
Leo Carlson and talk about Yeah, Troy Terry is still there,
he's still reliable. Mikhail Granlin's doing well. Mason McTavish the hands.
Do you see that the overtime goal that he had
was fantastic. Talk about Ben Seneke, Chris Crider's having you know,
another psy young christ.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Chris Crider six or goals.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Christopher James.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
He sat up the last four games, Yeah, he said,
the last four games with hand foot and mouth disease.
So that sucks?
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Do you like, Christopher James.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
I don't even know what Christopher James means.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
Chris Crider, Christopher James.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Do you know how I learned that? Do you know
how I learned that? Four Nations Final Final game? Yeah?
He was, he was on he was on Team USA.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Chris Crider, Yeah, sure it was. They actually heard when
did they say the James part? I don't remember seeing that.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
It was two Ranger fans behind Missus Woo and I
And every time he.
Speaker 8 (29:51):
Got the buck, Christopher James, what the hell are you
doing passing to the child?
Speaker 3 (29:58):
And then the child was actually Jack Hughes.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
His parents were yelling at him from the stands.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Christopher James. You know that's not gonna work.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
Christophe, Get off the ice, Christopher James, go finish your homework.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Is everybody? What the hell is her name from?
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Was it?
Speaker 5 (30:27):
What's her name from? Requiem for a Dream? Missus Goldfarb?
Is that who is yelling at a yelling at Chris
Crider on the in the stands.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I've actually never seen that.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
I'm going to be on television. You never saw that.
That is the most the most depressing movie that maybe
in existence upsetting.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Sort well press so crushing.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Well, I'm not talking about like ad because it's sad,
and there's a lot of movies that are sad, but
this is just like.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Old Yellow sad defeating Old Yeller.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
What the hell all these movies growing up that we
were forced to watch that just bamby.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
Kids were crying, Kids were crying back in the day
watching Old Yellow.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Yeah, what kind of ending of the movie is that
where the dog gets rabies and freaking they go and
they go out back and shoot them with a freaking shotgun.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Yeah, Turner and Hootie is all.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
That teaching kids?
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Turn the dog dies?
Speaker 6 (31:33):
Yeah, but he has he has a kid.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
He has a kid.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Yeah, puppies takes over.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
Yeah, it looks exactly exactly like him. Yeah, yeah, it's
freaking sad. Like yeah, I would agree, that's what, like
one of my favorite movies, actually my favorite.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
I would love to know what the life lesson is
in Old Yeller? Like, was was dogs getting rabies? Like
was that a common thing back then? When she's just
like every Yeah, it's probably I guess that maybe that
might have maybe that influenced interesting our actions in political.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
According to AI Overview. The main lesson in Old Yeller
is that growing up involves accepting responsibility, making difficult choices
for the good of others, and learning to navigate life's hardships.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
By killing a dog.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Yeah, by your dog getting rabies because of your dumb ass,
so he had to go come save you, and then
he gets rabies and you gotta freaking shoot.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Him when doing the right thing hurts.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
Yeah. That and he probably didn't even dispose the body properly.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Probably not. Excuse me, Carcass was just rotting. Uh, this
is hockey podcast, by the way it is. It is
all about hockey.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
Hockey for the rest of the podcast.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Distraction you are you need to come here to be
we We get distracted very easily in this podcast.
Speaker 6 (33:11):
So what did you guys think of a water World?
Speaker 5 (33:14):
Yeah, well, of the biggest actually bomb in the history
of movies, right, I kind of like thanks for bringing
up that.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
We talked about the middle six or the top six
for for the Utah Mammoth and they're still obviously Nick Schmaltz, good, Third, Keller, Cooley,
peterkau Baard, Hayden all doing pretty well. Any teams that
that you guys or anything in this uh first quarter
(33:47):
or first sixth the season that you guys are pretty
impressed with.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
I feel like everybody talked up a lot of people
talked up Montreal going into the season and doing well,
and so I feel like it's supposed to not be
a surprise, but I still feel like it's kind of
a surprise. Yeah, A little bittro Detroit also, because Detroit,
I mean, in the in the offseason, whatever, I mean,
Detroit just they continue to do bizarre things and for
(34:14):
whatever reason. And it's not I mean, they got they
acquired Gibson, and Gibson's not the one you know, he's
He's had basically, Gibson's had a handful of good games,
but his numbers are not great. No, so it's not
him who's like who turned the team around. But I
don't know that sustainable. I think some of these teams,
(34:38):
like we're gonna start to learn, like which one of
these teams that came out of the gate like super hot,
like the you know, the Devils and the Penguins and
the Red Wings and you know, the Kraken obviously are
gonna definitely come down to Earth. I think some of
these other teams like I will, I actually wouldn't be surprised.
And I think the so the percentages of teams starting
(34:59):
like eight, eight and two something along those lines, it's
like twenty four teams have done it since I forget
what year, and all of them have made the playoffs.
But I don't know that I see Detroit making the playoffs. Still.
I think that's like, out of all these teams that
you just named, I feel like that they're the team
that could most likely fall.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
Yeah, I think that in that division. I still think
Florida and Tampa are playoff teams.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
Florida, Tampa, and Toronto are kind of underachieving right now, yes,
and I think they'll they'll start to well. Now, Tampa's on,
like from said, Tampa's on a five beam win streak,
so they're kind of trying. They're they're they're finding their
feet now, so they'll turn it around. They're they're definitely
finishing in the top three. Florida, I don't exactly know.
Maybe they get healthy and but I mean, help the health.
(35:48):
That's when the Florida isn't coming for a long time,
they'll be able to pick it up. But it's not
really I mean, Matthew matthewka Chuck could come back soon,
but you know, Barkoff is gone, so he's not coming back.
He's gone, you know, if at all. But Matthew Kutchuck,
I'm sure he'll help. But they're they're probably. I mean Florida,
there's no I can't imagine Florida not making the playoffs.
(36:09):
But I just I just see the I see the
Atlantic being a little too strong. Maybe Detroit fights for
a wildcard spot, but they're definitely I don't I cannot
imagine they maintained and even Montreal, I cannot imagine they
maintain top three in that division.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
I could see Montreal falling off, like there's still a
young team. Sometimes yeah, you get expectations and then all
of a sudden you just tank, like I could see it.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Like last year was last year with Montreal. Also, like
you saw you saw games where they come out flying
and they look like incredible. There's great, young, fast, talented, skilled,
young team, and then the next day no one shows
up and then they get annihilated by somebody or just
you know, lose to So it's it's I think they're
they're young enough where they're trying to figure out how
(36:52):
to balance consistency as far as like getting up for
every team that you play instead of just like a
handful of them. And I mean, Marty seeing the way,
I think is doing a really good job. And it's
you know, breaking those kids in and getting them to
perform at that high level every night or at least
you know, close to it. Everyone's gonna have down games,
(37:14):
but you know, if it's like, you know, two games
you look great, and then three games you look terrible,
and then you look great the next game, and then
another game you look terrible like that, that's where you're
That's where it's concerning. But you know, every every team
just has a crappy game every now and then.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
And do obviously goaltending he's been awesome, six, No, nine, thirte.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
They're still they're still not but they're still not committed
to making them the number one. And at this point,
I mean, like, why why do you why do you
have to be so insistent that Montenbos your guy when
he's not. Yeah, maybe, And it's like the whole thing
and the whole thing when when you come into a
season and what I hate when you come into a season,
some coaches will be like, well, I'm going to ride
the hot hand, and then you know, they play this
(37:55):
this guy like Dobs for instance, but then like he had,
he'll have one bad performance and he's on the bench
for four consecutive games. That's the That's the thing that
drives me crazy with goaltending is that some of these
some of these kids and you don't know how they
project Like, of course you have some goalies out there
that project as backups, like that's that's just inevitable. But
guys that have the possibility, like I don't know what
(38:18):
correll Va Melca projected as coming in, but you got
to give them the opportunity to show what they can do,
especially if they're playing well, and if they have one
bad game and all of a sudden you're like, well
you're a backup again, you know, and there goes all
the confidence these these guys, these somebody like Dobach needs
to keep playing and do something like what uh, you
know Columbus and what Pittsburgh's doing. Now just go every
(38:38):
other if you want to, you know, don't have them
on the bench for consecutive games just because you think
Matimbo is your guy.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Yeah, I agree with you, that's what a dumb team
does that. You know, ride right, sometimes you gotta ride
some hot hands. And you know, if they do have
a bad game, then maybe you start the next one
and you see how they react. You know, they come
back from the same reaction.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
Right, But if there if they have if they have
such a hot run like Dob has like and then
he has an off game, put Montembau in the next game,
start the following game after that, Like, don't just gloom
them to the bench because you're like, well, we gave
you a chance to be number one, you had a
bad game. Now we're going back to the guy who
we thought was number one all this time.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Completely agree with you. Obviously, goaltending, uh, overall has been
pretty good. There's obviously some duds here and there, but uh,
you know, Logan Thompson's having her good young season. We
talked about Dob. Dan Lador from Philly is doing really
well out.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
I picked him up on Fantasy Hockey.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
By the way, nice, well done, well done.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Even you know who I dropped, You know who I dropped?
Speaker 5 (39:47):
Drop she loves no.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
I dropped Atlantis not just like just like just like
how he dropped in that video.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Yeah. Uh, Steve's favorite goaltender, Trician Jari is still having
a very good season young season. Yep, you got obviously
the big names. Hella Buok, Demco, Schasterkins having a good year,
a pretty decent year. Yeah, I want I want to
(40:22):
be the third goaltender for Team USA over.
Speaker 5 (40:25):
Yeah, I think I think he can play his way
into it like Swemon's doing. I don't think Swimon's doing
himself any like major favors right now. I mean not
that he's doing poorly, but he's not, you know, convincing
me that he should be the third guy. And again
we said the third guy is probably not going to play.
But I think Dempko should be there because I think
he has the most chance to be Like, should injuries
(40:49):
happen or should there be just a colossal failure from
Ottinger and Helli book, I think Demko is a really
good insurance plan.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
Yeah. This year, I mean, so many guys are doing
well offensively. Shify right now is at the top of
the leaderboard twenty points in twelve games, but iicled nineteen points,
McKinnon nineteen, Nick Zuzuki's having a really good year. Sixteen assists,
leads all all players and assists. Nate is at the
ten goal mark. Uh, you know, Malkin's having a great year,
(41:19):
lark and kill mccarr obviously, and he's gonna get paid
a brings truck cell Brainy. We've obviously, you know, blown
him quite a bit, did as we talk about him
connor Ic David's coming back. But yeah, Cidney Crosby just ageless.
Nine goals, seven assists, sixteen points in thirteen games. A
(41:41):
lot of older guys doing pretty well right now. We
talked about Malkin leading assists, Crosby, Tavares has looked pretty
good with with Toronto.
Speaker 7 (41:52):
How come you're not naming any devils even there?
Speaker 4 (42:00):
Yeah, very well, I don't.
Speaker 5 (42:03):
I don't belave that a sec.
Speaker 7 (42:06):
He's Mark Strom has as many assists as Plot.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
I was gonna say, who's saying doing well his mom?
Speaker 3 (42:19):
I'm about to get his jersey.
Speaker 7 (42:21):
I'm about to get my jersey jersey Plot, So once
once I receive it, little Steve.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
They'll be freaking out of here in no time.
Speaker 7 (42:29):
Any jersey I get, the guy's gone every freaking time.
Speaker 5 (42:36):
That's why I think I've well. When I was younger
I got different jerseys, but over the years I learned that.
I guess I kind of figured that Crossby was going
to be like a career guy in Pittsburgh. Any new
jersey I ever got was his. Maybe it's like cliche
as far as like a Penguins fan goes, but whatever.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
Yeah, Plot's got one assist in thirteen games, and that's it.
Speaker 7 (43:01):
That was That was a solid assist, by the way,
And I think that was.
Speaker 5 (43:09):
I was opening.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
I think I think I'm ready to say, we're pretty
close to saying it. The best defenseman in the metro
resides in Long Island. Matthew Schaeffer is so goddamn good already.
He's I think he's the best defenseman possibly in the
(43:32):
in the Trustate area.
Speaker 5 (43:34):
It's also he's Yeah, it's also unfortunate that he's an
Islander because he just seems he was such a good kid.
You not that I'm gonna. It's just like I I
have obviously a disdain for the franchise. But and why
is that I'm not gonna? I don't. I don't, honestly,
I don't know. I just think it's I really think
(43:54):
it's it's not the players. It's actually it's most of
the time I have so I most we don't have
much against many players unless they're just deplorable human beings,
and I've you know, stated my case for that in
previous podcasts. But the fans sometimes make it much worse.
And basically it's really the only time I dislike any
(44:15):
franchise is because the fans are insufferable.
Speaker 7 (44:18):
And yes, yes, yes, yes, yes because they do that
Is it because they love Denis Poffin.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
I don't know, it's some of it, you know what, Yes,
a lot of it is having to suffer through the
broadcast with Butch Goring and he is easily the worst.
But no, anyway, that aside, I think Matthew Schaeffer just
seems like just a genuinely really really good kid and
(44:48):
of course, you know, emotional with the Hockey Fights Cancer
tribute to his mother. Obviously, he's probably.
Speaker 6 (45:03):
I hope he does.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
Else He's currently living with the Boomer Sisson's daughter and
son in law Matt Martin and Sydney Sison, so he
gets to wake up Matt Martin. Yeah right, No, he
works for the team.
Speaker 5 (45:18):
Oh justin Conniglierira says worst fan base in all sports.
I don't know. I don't know that I disagree with
you there, I don't. I mean, I don't have the proof.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
But don't you think fire fans are bad? Fire fans
are bad.
Speaker 5 (45:33):
Fans bad? But that being said, the Flyers standing ovation
for Mary Olemeeux coming back from his cancer treatment, first
came back in Philly. The standing ovation that he got
that Garners some respect. So you see, there's like some
(45:55):
so they're not completely inhuman. There is some empathy there
in the in the Philadelphia base. Granted that was a
long time ago, but still that's that's that's big, you know,
the biggest rival obviously best player on the Penguins to
give them a standing over that is is big in
my book.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
They they ate horse poop. When they won the Super.
Speaker 5 (46:17):
Bowl, they.
Speaker 4 (46:20):
Or one of them that guy, Yeah, that guy is
some while fighting each other?
Speaker 5 (46:27):
Yeah yeah, that's too. Did you fight each other often?
Speaker 4 (46:32):
I mean, you guys got anything more to talk about
before we.
Speaker 5 (46:36):
The Penguin's actually got a power player. That's that's crazy.
As I was talking to.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
They must listen to this podcast.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
They must.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
Schaeffer had the was the then Kennel's got to clumbs.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
You know there's a devils Devil's Island.
Speaker 5 (46:59):
Go ahead, know how many players from this current draft
are are playing?
Speaker 4 (47:04):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (47:04):
Centers Kindall? Who else is besides those? Seneki is playing? Yeah?
But raft he was twenty, he was twenty twenty four.
I thought it was this past draft.
Speaker 4 (47:16):
He wasn't.
Speaker 6 (47:17):
No, he was the draft before. He was third overall
the draft at four.
Speaker 5 (47:20):
Okay, So then Shaffer got drafted.
Speaker 6 (47:23):
He was like, holy f and they saw him on
on camera. You couldn't believe the draft third overall.
Speaker 5 (47:30):
So you have Kendall, Shaffer and who do we see Shaffer?
Kindle Mysa. Yeah, so those three?
Speaker 3 (47:38):
Who else?
Speaker 4 (47:38):
Uh, what's his name? Just got sent down? Brady Martin
but he was up for a little while. He was
up juniors. Yeah, yeah, he was back to juniors.
Speaker 5 (47:47):
So Kendall's officially here. I don't know if I'm sure.
Shaeffer I assume is because I don't think he's ever
been scratched front of Okay, yeah, he's not playing for Chicago.
I really I don't think there's so many from this draft. Yeah,
I think it's just yeah, a handful and Schaeffer, we
knew Kendall. I don't think anybody expected, right, who would
(48:11):
have who? First of all, he's drafted eleventh overall and
most people hated the draft pick. And now he just
scored his fifth goal. Five goals, no assistance.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
Still by the way, oh yeah uh so yeah, five players,
So Schaeffer, Mesa and obviously kindall but Martin got three
games and Brayden Coates from Vancouver got three games as well.
Speaker 5 (48:38):
Just three thing got sent back three. That's kind of weird.
Why wouldn't you keep them up for like the like.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
The nine games?
Speaker 5 (48:44):
You might as well play the eight games, right, play
the eight games and then But you.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
Know what I like next year, we'll click you talk
about this. Next year, there's gonna be the rule that
NHL teams can have an under nineteen year old in
their system and they can allow it to be they
can send them to the h for you know, they
could send him up and down and call him back
and forth. I like that a lot. They should be doing.
Speaker 5 (49:07):
They should have. They were supposed to. That was one
of the rules that they were thinking considering making valid
this season. And I don't know why they wouldn't. That's
such an easy thing to implement. Why why would why
wouldn't you, because there are so many players that are
just too good and they can regress. You send them
back to juniors, and they'll actually get worse and get
(49:28):
into worse habits because you're playing against significantly worse talent.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
Last year, he or two years ago, he his third
year in juniors, he was too good to play juniors.
The Rangers wanted him up, but they couldn't have him
go to the HL, so he had to go back
to the juniors. And it just it does. It hinders
your development because you're not you're just so much better
and physically stronger than these other people. You should be
playing in a different league. And that's just you.
Speaker 5 (49:56):
Get what your bad habits. It It garners bad habits
when they send him back to a league that they
are just far superior in playing, Like if you can't.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
Prove it, it should be more.
Speaker 5 (50:11):
But at least the one is good. But I mean
it should have been. I don't know, I don't know
why they wouldn't. Yes, which is also you know, better
better than juniors. Yes, because you're still playing against you know, older, bigger,
more physical, more talented in some cases players. But no,
I think that's a good rule. I don't know why
(50:32):
they didn't implemented this year. I think I think Harrison,
for example, on my team, Harrison Brunick, I think is
having a solid season. He's been scratched a couple of
times now. I think he might be playing his ninth
game tonight. But like, you don't send a guy like
that back to juniors because it's just it's going to
especially defenseman, it's going to get them into bad habits.
(50:56):
And as a defenseman, it makes it even worse because
you start to get you know, you start to get
a little bit lazy in your training and this and that.
Because you're so far superior to everybody around you, you
should be able to play against bigger talent. So it
sucks that the only option is you're playing with the
Penguins in the NHL. Maybe you need a little more
development because you're you know, you're a young kid, But
don't play against guys that you're just like way better
(51:17):
in because there's nothing else to prove in the juniors.
Speaker 6 (51:19):
How many how many minutes is he playing though?
Speaker 4 (51:21):
In the NHL?
Speaker 6 (51:22):
Is he playing like getting shit?
Speaker 5 (51:24):
No, he's getting like sixteen eighteen minutes.
Speaker 6 (51:27):
Okay, that's not bad. Always get a kiddy some of
these kids that they have come up to the NHL
and then they can only send them to juniors. They
they are up in the NHL, but they only play
like eight nine or ten minutes or something. Yeah, if
they could go to the AHL and play significant minutes,
I think that would be much more beneficial for them.
Speaker 5 (51:45):
You know, not play, especially the defenseman, even even a forward.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
Ye.
Speaker 5 (51:49):
Yeah, like you said from like top power, play, top
penalty kill whatever you want to get them, you know,
like eighteen twenty minutes a game if your defenseman, get
them twenty one, twenty two to twenty three minutes a
game in the AHL. But like if you're getting that
time in the junior just not doing anything for you.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Yeah, all right, and we'll leave this last little bit
before we hit out.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
We always do the plus minus because it's always a
fun uh end to our podcast. Who is your positive? Yeah?
Who is your positive leader? Uh? I damn uh? Who
is your plus?
Speaker 5 (52:28):
I'll say that again because you've got a little frozen there.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
Who is your plus leader in the NHL? Uhc A
Lecanon plus twelve Him and Kill mccar are tied. Who
is your minus leader Spurgeon.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Yeah, is it Spurs?
Speaker 4 (52:49):
Nope, it is a Saint Louis Blue this time.
Speaker 5 (52:53):
Oh jeez, Saint Louis Blue. Who is it, Luke?
Speaker 4 (53:01):
It's their captain. It's Braden. Oh the other trade what
minus thirteen? And then Weiger and Coronado or at minus
twelve for the Calgary Stampede.
Speaker 6 (53:15):
Frame points down to minus nine.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
Hey, uh yeah, there's a couple of New York Rangers
Zavana Jet's minus eight. Not good?
Speaker 6 (53:25):

and also love absolutely and also love the paid, love
the paida he got and I hope it. Yeah, brings
more guys to collegiate Penn State, and it's and it's
a better lead playing better lead to playing.
Speaker 6 (53:52):
Yes, and they're actually televising games on ESPN.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
Play there, yeah, play there until you know, play in
juniors until you're seventeen eighteen, go to college. It is
so much better. Uh, but Boss, Harbor, Boss, it's like
a one. This is horrible.
Speaker 5 (54:09):
No, l A is a I pour myself half another
glass and it is a four some five.
Speaker 3 (54:14):

multiply that by take her home. Sim Oh wait, I
