but now I have clients across every type of business
that you can imagine. Leadership kind of extends in every
facet of life. And so yeah, that and a few
(02:34):
few books under my belt which I'm honored to say
I was a part of and that's it. Still motoring along,
giving leadership advice the best I can.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Absolutely wonderful, glad to have you on the show. And
last but not leavest, Cam Nichols, introduce your bell, tells
what you do.

started in January, is being dedicated full time to be
in an author and a cook So I've just published
a cookbook. I have another book coming out shortly that
consists of short stories of these single mothers and children
in Uganda and compel It.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And half the.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Proceeds of those both those books are going to them
to help pay school fees and hopefully build Sarah's schools.
So very excited about all those things.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Wow, thank you so much for sharing that, and welcome
to the show. You and Kevin.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
You and Kevin do something similar with with your book proceeds.
You both raise money for for good causes through your books,
so that that's really what you guys have that in common. Well,
you guys, thank you for joining us on Hollywood Podcast today.
Now you guys already know what the topic is today,
and that is Denzel Washington versus the photographer at the
(03:51):
can Festival.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Now, did you guys.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Get a chance to see that video? Yes, I mean
for those of you guys who haven't yet seen it,
I'll want you guys to take a look at it.
Denzel Washington goes I would not say he goes crazy,
but he goes off on a photographer because a photographer
clearly was crossing professional boundaries. He got a little handsy.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
What did you guys think about it?
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Well, I think he clearly crossed the line. I mean
if every photographer think about it at any big event,
if they all acted like that, they'd be crushed. So
I think the photographer was out of line and he
probably knew of what was trying to get the shot.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
M I wanted to say, I don't think that fame
cancels humanity, It just magnifies it. Right, So den Zell snapping,
it wasn't a failure of his composure, right, it was
a flash of his humanity that often like is dehumanized. Right,
So a celebrity outburst, it's it's really to me, it
(04:58):
was like a nervous system response, right, high achieving people,
they're still living in a critic You know they're over
it's over stimulation. It's you know, all the time touching, looking, pulling,
you know, can I just have another? Can I? Can? I? Can? I?
I've been at several events where, you know, the celebrities
come onto the scene if you will, and they just
get flooded by fans. People take a picture, a hold
(05:21):
my product, do a thing. And it's strange because I'm
not that. But even in my small world that is starting,
you know, happens to me or at a speaking event,
especially when there's a larger crowd and you want to
be kind and you want to be respectful, but you
know there are boundaries that get crossed. And that's exactly right.
So there was a survival instinct there too, because it
(05:43):
wasn't a singular moment. It was the fact that the photographer,
I think, persisted and maybe demanded too much. And I
just feel like, it's just because you're famous, It doesn't,
you know, preclude you from needing a little space or
be able to hold your ground and saying no, this
is not okay. It might be for it And.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
What I think too, is he and one of the
things that irks my nerves when people across certain boundaries
is when they do it and they smile at you
in the process, like they don't know they're crossing boundaries.
Like if you saw the photographer, he was all smiling
like bruh, Like what the smile off your face? You
know you're doing too much. And that's when Denzel Denzel
(06:23):
trying to keep it somewhat professional. He tried to have
somewhat of a professional smile as you're trying to engage
with somebody who's clearly cross across the line. But yet
you know, when you're having these conversations and the person
that you're speaking to kind of just doesn't get it professionally,
I mean, what's what's the next step? I mean, Kevin,
(06:43):
you know you work at the professional world. I mean,
what do you think?
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Well, I think he actually showed the leadership that we
would expect from him. I don't view that as a
out of line response or or crazy as some people
to say. He demonstrate what we would expect from Denzel Washington.
It was firm. It was yes, it was there wasn't
fear involved, but there was also still some humility to it,
(07:11):
which we know is a big piece of his life.
He set firm boundaries and was very clear. And I
think when you think back to some of the crazy
things we've seen in time where celebrities are throwing something
or pushing running to get in their car, and you know,
he didn't show any of that. You know, he didn't
(07:32):
cross the line. He did show boundaries and he stayed
firm on what he was trying to explain to that photographer.
So it was Denzel Washington. To me, I was like,
there he is doing his thing.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
You know.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
I think one thing people forget too, is he just
he's in othello. Right, So he'd just gone in and
he left immediately after he received the award to fly back,
so you add normal Deazel Denzel. But maybe he's a
little exhausted too. So it was still very restrained to me.
But nobody's talking about that.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
So yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I think I think he it showed great strength and
also professionalism and how he handled that. Now, now, doctor King,
I know that you know, you mainly speak and on
the on the spectrum of you know, human rights and
really setting up a good example for our young ones
(08:28):
in the future.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
How do you think Denzel did in the situation?
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Yes, And I would say, you know, as much as
I think about this, I think there's something called protocol.
I do a lot of work also, as you know,
in my international business with ambassadors and with countries, and
that's something called protocol. What is protocol? Rules? Rules of engagement.
So when I look at the photographer, especially photographer, there
rules of engagement, and that photographer did not do what
(08:52):
he's supposed to do, and there's protocol, and what he
did was aggressive and not okay. And just because someone
is a quote unquote celebrity doesn't mean that you go
after them or somehow they have less rights than anybody else.
I think that also that particular photographers should be censured,
which means that you've crossed the line. Now we have
to pull you back so you understand and learn to
(09:13):
the do it again. And I think that so many
people are talking about Denzel Washington's response, but I would
say there are so many people like photographers that have
put people's lives in danger with this type of behavior.
So this behavior is absolutely outrageous, unacceptable and should not
be accepted again. So in terms of ethics, this photographer
needs to go back to not just an ethics course,
(09:35):
but also needs to be censured for this behavior, and
this behavior needs to be absolutely out being known to
be not acceptable for all photographers. And then we need
to we need to set the line. I mean, I
don't think that uh, celebrity, anybody needs to set the line.
You know, suppose you're not a big gentleman. Suppose you're
a smaller woman. I suppose you're a child. No, it's
(09:58):
not a gumbent upon the people to set the line.
This incumbent upon the photographers set the line, and so
they need to censure him and pull him back and
make sure that it doesn't happen again.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
We'll see if CAN actually does that.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I know that they've had some other issues in the past,
even last year with Kelly Rowland on the Red carpet
and she had some issues with some of the staff
at the Can Festival. So I am curious to see
if you CAN is going to do just that. I'm
doctor King, and that's you know, provide this photographer with
some censorship as well as ensuring that other photographers don't
(10:30):
kind of follow suit with the major disrespect of their
guest at the award ceremony. So I'm very interesting to
see how all this transpires. But you know, there's so
much more to talk about with her cards to Denzel.
And before we let you guys go, I want you
guys to stay tuned and listen to a word from
our partners, and then we'll be right back. We're going
to talk about Denzel's award and what that means for
(10:54):
the masses.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
So stay tuned.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
All right, you guys, welcome back to Island Podcast.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
We're back. We're here to talk more about Denzel Washington.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
I mean, like, whoever gets tired of talking about Denzel
Washington Like this, this is a legend, a living legend. Now,
before the before the show started, before the cameras began rolling,
we were debating on how to pronounce the award that
Denzel Washington just received at the at the Camp Festival.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It is the Snida forgot it already. It's the pump,
the pump, the pum. How do you say?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Good enough?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Damn pumbo?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Okay, Now, this award pump award was really uh given
to him, you know, to really highlight his legacy and
filmmaking and and clearly we've seen the legacy of Denzel
Washington and how many films he's made to and many
films that have had a huge global impact on humanity,
(11:57):
touching on human rights, touching on social issues. I mean,
his homography is extensive. But I guess my question is,
you know, for someone like Dinzel, who is a living legend,
to receive an a war like this, I mean, what
kind of impact does that happen on him and his legacy?
Speaker 2 (12:13):
And really for the masters, what do you guys think?
Speaker 5 (12:15):
May I answer?
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I had a thought. So obviously it's not like going
to blow your minds to say Denzel Washington isn't just
a great actor, right, but because his longevity isn't luck,
it feels like an emotional literacy. He's a master of
internal discipline, boundary setting, right, self definition, and skills that
make up someone In the psychological world, we'd say, as
(12:37):
you know, a representative of really walking and carrying himself
with an emotional intelligence. So we study behavioral patterns of
high impact leaders, and so whether we're talking about from
glory to fences, it's not just talent, it's like this
deep emotional literacy. He's very selective, he's intentional. He doesn't
perform for approval per se. He chooses work that align
(13:00):
his purpose and that is kind of a boundary setting too,
that any industry leader could learn from. So he doesn't
just build characters. He curates this legacy, and that requires
a mastery of one's inner world, especially under pressure. So
I mean, he's just obviously one of the great greats,
and it's incredible to see him recognized.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
I was looking for fun facts about Denzel that maybe
people didn't know. And he gave a speech a while
ago and he talked about how he was flunking out
of college. He had a one point seven GPA, and
he went to his mother's beauty shop and there was
a woman there getting the treatment, and she just kept
staring at him, and he couldn't figure out why she
(13:44):
was staring him. Finally, she said, somebody get me a
piece of paper and a penn. I have a prophecy.
And she said to him, you are going to travel
the world and you're going to talk to millions of people.
And he's like what. But one of his big things
is I don't know he've heard is Dillard University speech,
put gun first. But he is so humble man, and
(14:06):
he just one of the things he says is I
hope you put your slippers way under your bed, So
the first thing you have to do in the morning
is get on your knees and pray to God. Thing
I mean just powerful step back. You can find the
Dillard University speech. I recommend every you watch it. But
I think he's such a humble, genuine put it forward,
fail forward.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Guy.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
I think, yeah, got that away.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
And this goes back to what Natania said. You know,
it's not just acting, right, it's there's there's so much
to him and to his legacy, and a lot of
it is just that realness that This is why I
think the rule that comes across the screen so readily
with his with his roles, is because he genuinely is
(14:51):
that person, you know, that person that gives his heart
and soul into the work that he does. And it's
and to see him being honored for that at the war,
I mean, it's it's good because it's heartwarming because you know,
I feel like sometimes we give actors and actresses these
honors so far along in their careers that sometimes it's
(15:13):
too late for them to enjoy it, you know what
I mean, Are are we doing after they've already passed?
You know, like, no, let's celebrate them now, and I
appreciate the can fess of them doing that for Denzel
Washington because we don't do it or no, I don't
think doctor King what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah, yeah, I agree.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
What I also love about the fact that he's humble,
that he's racist children to also be humble rather than
looking at his millions or so, he's basically saying, you know,
I'm going to use this for He's built all types
of schools, he's built all types of clinics, and he's
done all types of humanitarian work. And what I really
love is that he doesn't have the sense of you
owe me. Look, I'm a start, and more importantly, he's
(15:55):
actually shifted that to his family, and so his legacy
is not going to be about even these awards. His
legacy is going to be about him sharing himself, being humane,
having humanity, and more importantly spreading that throughout the world.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Wow, thank you for sharing that. Absolutely inspiring.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
And so what is left for Denzel to receive as
far as their words is because they're ant. He's an
OSCRE winner. You know, he's won so many accolades. But
I think it's at least for Denzel and for those
of us who have followed his legacy. It's good to
see that he's being recognized for the work that he does.
And I think in the long term, I think, no
matter what professional we find ourselves in or what we do,
(16:39):
it's nice for sometimes people to just stop and say, hey,
you know what, good job. I see what you've done,
and I appreciate you. You know, that goes a long
way in business, it goes a long way in personal relationships,
and when an actor receives it and the Formula Award,
it's the exact same impact. And I think if we
continue to even take that lesson with us and just
(17:00):
be mindful of the individuals who we do come in
contact with, right the positive energy that we get from
the beautiful people in our networks, and tell them that,
you know, inspire them, and let them know that they've
inspired us, and we just keep sharing that love and
let that expand. And I think that's the lesson I
walk away with from this week's cam Festival. Indeed, all right,
(17:29):
