Whether a one room bed and breakfastor a five hundred room hotel. A
hospitality property is a complex organization thatrequires the collaboration of various departments to provide
seamless service to its guests. Eachdepartment has a specific role to play,
and I'm going to share the topten departments you need to consider for your
(00:20):
property. Welcome to another edition ofHospitality Property School. I am your instructor,
Jerry in person a. Such abelief of most personal development philosophies is
that to have a wonderful life, one must take complete responsibility for it and
(00:45):
everything that happens. As the ownerof an independent hotel, resort, in
or bed and breakfast, you andyou alone can manifest any problems or uncomfortable
situations that occur. Passing blame tooare not being supportive of your employees can
develop a disease that can destroy yourbusiness and have a negative influence on your
(01:07):
life. Your problems don't go awayuntil you take responsibility for them. All
right, You might be thinking thisstuff is a little heavy, I just
want to know what departments I need. The reason for this thought process is
that so when you have an organizationstrategy in place, and have at work,
You'll have the right mindset and you'llbe able to look at the big
(01:30):
picture. Continue reading, watching,or listening, and I'll explain more about
why and which departments you need atyour property right afterward from our sponsor,

(01:53):
business? Or what changes do Ihave to make at my property post COVID
nineteen. If you have ever askedyourself any of these questions, I'll be
happy to answer. But before Ido, let me ask you a couple
of questions. Does the idea ofbeing your own boss in the hospitality property
industry sound appealing? Is the thoughtof sharing your corner of the world with
(02:16):
guests intriguing? Have you ever thoughtof opening or growing a hotel resort in
bed and breakfast or vacation rental butare not sure where to start? Are
you worried about whether guests will returnand keep returning to your property after COVID?
If you've answered yes to any ofthese questions, this course is for
(02:39):
you. This course is designed toget you started and grow your business as

(03:27):
said I would explain more about whyand which departments you need at your property.
Your goal in setting up an organizationalstrategy is to develop a business that
you could someday sell or turn overto someone and the operation would continue to
operate without missing a beat. Youwant to develop an operations manual. You
(03:47):
don't have to sell, but withthis thought process in mind, it will
be easier to stay focused. Now. I understand every hospitality property could be
a little different, but this isa model that if you follow, will
work. Don't plan on racing throughthis exercise. It's going to take time.
(04:09):
I recommend you take some quiet timeaway from all the action. A
pen and a notebook and write downall the responsibilities required to run your property.
Remember the big picture. Here's howyou start. The exact departments and
the responsibilities may vary depending on thesize and type of your property, but
(04:30):
here are the most common ten departmentsin a hospitality property. Front desk,
Reception. The front desk or receptionis usually the first point of contact for
guests, where they check in,check out, make reservations, and get
information about your property and its services. Housekeeping. The housekeeping department is responsible
(04:54):
for cleaning and maintaining guest rooms andpublic areas of your property, including changing
linens, replenishing amenities, and ensuringcleanliness and hygiene standards. Sales and Marketing.
The sales marketing department is responsible forpromoting your property, attracting you guests,
and maximizing revenue by developing strategies toincreased bookings, sales, and loyalty
(05:17):
programs. Food and Beverage. TheFood and Beverage department includes all your properties
dining options such as restaurants, bars, room servers, banquets, and catering.
This department is responsible for preparing andserving food and drinks to guests.
Accounting and finance. The accounting andFinance department is responsible for managing your properties
(05:45):
finances, including budgeting, payroll accounts, payable and receivable, and financial reporting.
Human Resources. The Human resource departmentis responsible for recruiting, hiring,
training, and man all your staff, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and
providing employee benefits and support. Dothese make sense so far? Let me
(06:10):
know by leaving a short comment.Engineering and Maintenance. The Engineering and Maintenance
department is responsible for ensuring that yourproperty's physical facilities, such as electrical,
mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, are functioning properly and well maintained.
(06:30):
Security. The Security department is responsiblefor ensuring this safety and security of your
property and its guests, including monitoringaccess control, conducting patrols, responding to
emergencies, and managing guest complaints andincidents. Spa and Wellness. The Spa
and Wellness Department provides guests with relaxationand wellness services such as massages, facials,
(06:58):
yoga classes, fitness centers. Concierge. The concierge department provides guests with
personal assistant such as arranging transportation, making restaurant reservations, booking tours and activities,
and providing information about local attractions andevents. If you have a small
operation, this might sound insane, but in many cases, one or more
(07:25):
of these responsibilities could fall to oneperson. The important thing to remember is
that each of these responsibilities has tobe treated like a separate entity. And
by this I mean each of theseresponsibilities has to have easy to follow duties,
methods to do each duty effectively, and checkless to ensure they are done
correctly. In conclusion, hospitality propertieshave many departments that work together to provide
(07:50):
guests with comfortable, enjoyable, anda memorable state. Understanding each department's role
and responsibilities it's crucial for ensuring smoothoperations and providing guests with exceptional service.
