(00:16):
We walk amongst ghosts every day,be it sights of war and strife,
are poverty and horror. The twisting, snaking paths are beautiful but can lead
us to some things undiscovered and terrifying. From the Mississippi Delta to the jungles
of the far East, the deaddemand to be acknowledged. This is what
(00:41):
we do here. Welcome to theHouse of Asher. Hello every body,
this is your host, Steve Asher, and welcome to the show. I
(01:07):
was just thinking about how weird itis that sometimes places that would put someone
else off, maybe scare them away, would attract an interest more than that
would attract downright curiosity obsessively. I'mtalking about locations where there's been murders or
(01:38):
deaths and moreover. I mean, there are cities that have these tours of
locations where there's been murders and especiallylike mob hits or things like that.
You'll see this all over the place, even places like Bardstown, Kentucky,
or Death in Chicago, places likethat where there have been a lot of
(02:06):
killing on the streets, in thestreets in front of storefronts. Now,
that might not be too bad toto the casual person, but that's different
you know what I'm saying. That'ssomething you go and see, then you
go out and have a nice dinneror whatever, and then you go home.
(02:29):
Okay, but it's not it's nothome. I'm going to talk about
places where there have been murders, suicides, occult rituals, various types of
abuse and murder. I mean,Lord, thinking places like the Gaycy Home.
(02:54):
You know, that's literally almost ashrine to some people. Now,
of course there's a interest in that. Ever, you know, I would
say I have more than a passinginterest in serial killers. But I don't
know if I necessarily want to goto a home where there'd been all this
victimization of people and then, youknow, pick up a rock and collect
(03:15):
it. I just think it's bad. I think it's bad juju myself.
I really don't want any part ofthat. But what about it? Going
further than that? Think about placeslike the Amityville Home, the place in
Saint Louis where the actual original storyof the extressiest occurred. What about,
(03:42):
say, the home where the EmilyRose original story happened. Would you want
to go there? Would you wantto spend some time there? My God?
Beyond that, would you want tolive there? Would you want to
(04:02):
walk up and down the same stairswhere perhaps bodies were drunk, perhaps murders
occurred. I don't know. Idon't know if I could do it personally.
But you know something I probably shouldhave said before we even started this.
(04:27):
You may be listening to this onspreaker, iHeart, Spotify, a
whole lot of different streaming services. If you have an opinion, especially if
you're stay listening to this on YouTube, leave a comment down there. I'm
curious what you think about it.And have you ever lived somewhere like that?
Have you lived somewhere like that?Unknowingly? Now way I understand it?
(04:51):
By law, yes, they aresupposed to basically include any information if
there had been a death, ifit's supposedly haunted, all of this and
that which, yes, murder ora death or a suicide or something like
that, that's quantifiable. How doyou really quantify a haunting? Though?
(05:13):
How do you you know? Peoplecan be more sensitive to things. I've
known some people that have worked inwhat I would consider extremely haunted locations and
never had a never had as muchas a bump or a rumble or anything.
Now, I think if you're lookingfor a haunting, you'll find a
haunting. And if I if you'rea person who just is like, uh
(05:38):
uh, I don't believe in that, I don't listen to that mess.
You're you know what I'm saying.A tap in the wall, be a
mouse in a cold spot, itbe a drafty window. And sometimes that
is true, but not always. Now, I've been in homes that I
later found out had been the siteof death, has been the site of
(06:00):
wakes. Especially here in the OldSouth, people would set up with the
dead. Now this is usually thenight before, maybe a night or two
before the actual funeral, and thisis to make sure the body wasn't disturbed.
More often than not in America,it was like you want to make
(06:24):
sure that you know, the catsdidn't get to the body or something like
that. Now, of course,in Victorian times, you know there was
the possibility of resurrectionists, body snatchers, grave robbers, or even want to
call them, but that wasn't nearas much of a problem as just your
(06:53):
neighborhood alley cat deciding to get upthere and chew on grandma's nose a little
bit because it smells like food. That's just the nature of the kids.
I'm just telling you, if yougot cats, you have better. If
you got somebody getting ready to passin the family, you might want to
find somewhere from them to be becausethey will come hunting. Sorry to tell
(07:14):
you, it's just a nature ofit. But yeah, lived in a
home and there had been several severalwakes there. But I had spent the
night at a well, it wasmy brother's friend's house. He was a
kind of a friend. He wasolder, so he was kind of like
whatever, And I stayed the nightwith my brother. It was my brother
(07:39):
Michael, and at his friend Garon'shouse. And Garrett was a cool kid.
He was sort of it kind ofmakes you think of like Mike Mother's
bomb from Devo maybe for the youngerkids, the guy who did the thing
from Rugrats, and a bunch ofother stuff. Anyway, we were set
up about half the night, pickingguitar and bs and name stuff. Well,
(08:05):
by about two thirty or three,we were all thoroughly tuckered out.
So Gary went to his room andMichael crashed on the living room couch.
Well, me and being the youngone, I got the little palette on
the floor. That's fine with me. I kicked out and I was pretty
(08:26):
comfortable, you know, I stretchedout and being up half the night,
it wasn't long before I was fastasleep. Well a couple of minutes I
started hearing my brother calling to me, and not just really calling him,
almost like yelling at me. Hewas like, Steve, Stevie, Stevie,
(08:52):
where you going? Man? AndI'm like, what are you talking
about? Now? I understand. He was laying on the couch, My
feet were toward the couch, myhead was away, facing toward the kitchen
doorway. I said, am Igoing anywhere? He said, yeah,
you are, man, What areyou doing? I said, what are
(09:13):
you talking about? He said, man, you're standing there at the doorway,
got your sheet on you or something? Weird? Are you doing?
And I was still about half asleep, so it didn't really register with me,
and I said, brother, myfeet are about about a foot and
a half from your head. Iwas not going anywhere. I think you're
(09:39):
having a dream. I felt thekind of tapped my foot. He rode
back over facing the couch, wentat sleep. I didn't give it another
thought. You know, people havenightmares, people have dreams, people whatever.
Well, next morning cracking dawn. He's up, he's ready to go.
(10:01):
He walks me, uh, walksme out. So we get home
and uh, and he said, remind me to tell you something later.
Okay, Well we both get busy. School starts. I'm you know,
I'm going back to school. He'sworking. Well, the weekend comes,
(10:24):
we haven't had that little discussion, and I said, hey, brother,
what what had you so weird? You know? I said, I don't
just wander around people's houses. Andhe said, Stevie, I'll tell you
what I didn't tell you then becauseI know it would have freaked you out.
Which I'm like, okay, wellyou're freaking me out a little bit.
(10:46):
Now what are we talking about?Well, he said, brother,
this is the way things happen.Okay. We hung out, listen to
music, far around, played somegames, and then we went to bed
right right, and he said, and you laid down exactly where you said
(11:07):
you laid down. I said, yeah, but you didn't believe me.
He said, well there's a reasonfor that. I'm like, okay,
well, do you want to giveme a clue? What's up? He
said, Man, I looked upand I thought you were I don't know
what you're doing trying to scare meto be goofy or something, and was
standing there with a like a verythin sheet over you. I said,
(11:31):
okay, I said, I didn'thave a sheet. I had a blanket.
He says, well, I quicklyrealized that, but at the time
I didn't know what was going on. I said, what did you see?
I said, brother, I sawsomething standing on. Once I realized
(11:52):
where you was positioning your body was, I realized this thing was about a
foot and a half past your head. I said, what do you mean
this thing? He says, well, it's like this. I was calling
out to you and it stopped andit just stayed there. And I was
saying, what are you doing, man, what are you doing? And
(12:13):
it wouldn't move. I said,okay, I don't know. Maybe it
was Garren. He said, no, no way, brother. I said,
well, how do you know?He said, well, here's the
thing. When I reached down andI touched your leg, I never took
my eyes off this thing. Likeokay, he said, Steve. It
(12:37):
turned its heads just ever so slightly, and it sunk into the floor.
It like melted into the floor anddisappeared. I was like, what are
you talking about, He said,Steve, I don't know what it was,
but it wasn't human, said JesusChrist did. Yeah, that's why
(12:58):
I didn't tell tell you. Well, you know what happened. About a
year or so later, we cometo find out from a family friend that
Garon's grandmother was going through a veryvery bad emotional and health issue and she
(13:20):
was on the phone with her husbandand she shot herself in her chest and
her body collapsed right in that veryspot. That very spot was no more
than a foot passed my head.Long story short, we never stayed at
(13:48):
our friend Garon's again. But onthat note, I have to say everybody,
