heard in Southern California on Fox Sports Am thirteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (00:29):

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Always a pleasure to be right here with you every
Saturday morning, live on air. We have a very very
very very great show lined up for you guys. It
is March Madness, so it's always a great time of year,
really exciting stuff going on. This is like where everybody

(01:02):
kind of figures out who's who and uh and it's
really great. I mean, there's a lot of local players,
a lot of local folks right now. A big child
to our guy, young Carter Bryant, who who.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Had a great game last night.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I believe he had like twelve points and somewhere near
five rebounds.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Uh big, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Again a centennial, A centennial, alump, So we're really happy
about that. But again, today is day three of the championship.
Really fun stuff. But Coach B said, we have a
caller calling in on the Fox Sports Radio guest hotline.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Coach B, I hope this works because it's modern technology.
So I had to call Rom and then calling to
the station because Rome is on location. Oh he's all, Okay,
he is south of the border. Okay, here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
So right now, caller, you alive right here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Please introduce yourself to our live radio audience.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
So we have we have our guy, uh, Coach Rome
giving us working in international minutes right now. Coach, let's
let the good people for Fox Sports Radio know where
you are calling from.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
I have been in the wonderful city of Mexico for
the last week and we're at the airport Mexico City
getting ready to leave in about an hour here at
back home. But it's not a great trip. If you
all haven't been to Mexico City. I highly recommend outstanding.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Good stuff out there. I know you've been eating all
the good food. I mean you're an international guy always.
I mean you're in Italy all the time, you and
the family. Uh but how about this trust specifically out
there in Mexico City, I mean, how about the food
any any kind of excursions?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
What we what was going on?

Speaker 5 (02:42):
It was great. We had a lot of really good food.
Actually had some good Italian food here. It's a very
cosmopolitan city. Has come a long way out here the
first time here, but everybody that came, like the last
you know, year, year and a half has been here
and loved it. So we figured to give it a try.
And uh, yeah, you can kind of live like a
king down here. Still, I think it's one of these
has been hammerd by inflation. Yes, Uh, service is great,

(03:04):
people are wonderful, food is terrific and uh no complaints.
Man might have had a.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Now I am a southern California guy, so I'm partially
I'm sure the Mexican food is better in LA it
is out there. Correct me if I'm wrong, Coach.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
You know what, I could eat Mexican food every day.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
I say this all the time. People call it Mexican food.
I call it a gift from God. I'm from California.
It is the official food in my state. Uh. But Coach,
I wanted to talk to you. I know we're gonna
do the Uh, we're gonna get into the All Star Game.
But Coach, this is your time of year. I'm surprised
you're doing a vacation. March Madness has started. Uh, and
I want to ask you about something. Are you as
in love with the First Four as I am? I?

(03:49):
I am fascinated by the First Four that they've created.
Now with this March Madness.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Tournament, I'm not, but I do watch the tournament, still
keep up with it. I think the whole game has
changed from top to bottom trickle down stuff from the NBA,
and it's just it's harder. It's harder to follow because
guys are switching teams every year. It's hard to, like,
you know, lock in with a group of a group
of players that you like and enjoy watching play together

(04:15):
because they're probably not gonna be together the next year
with the nil thing that's going off right in the
transfer portal. So it makes it a little more difficult.
But I still I'm a big lover of college basketball
for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Right right, absolutely. They talk about that a lot with
the the mid majors, and you even see this in
football now or people like do understand they don't want
to do a spring game anymore because now they said
coaches and the power programs were recruiting because they'll seem
like with the mid majors, Hey, you had a great game,
how would you like to come on over here? How
is the N I L it's even in high school? Coach?

(04:46):
How is the NIL change the game in high school
and college?

Speaker 5 (04:51):
Well, I mean it's made for a lot less continuity,
Like I said, it's it's like almost everybody who's like
a junior college coach now, which is a tough gime.
You know, at least the junior college pretty likely to
have guys for two years. But now, like I just
heard Dan Hurley say that he expects like fifty of
his team they entered the portal.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Wow, right wing? Wow?

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Two national championships? Crazy? Yeah, I mean I guess it's
just one. Are the priorities now? It seems like it's
all money right right right? Which I can't blame the
players for that for sure, right right, blame the regulations
for it definitely.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Well, You know, I grew up in the ninety so
I don't have any sympathy for the Hurley family. Dan
was cool, but yeah, I didn't like what they did
to un LG or Michigan. Yes, right right, that it
wasn't a timeout. Let's let it go.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
But coach, UNLV did get a big they did get
a big pay.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
That, Yes they did, Yes, they did right right, But
you know, coach, want to talk about it.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
I know you you're getting ready to board, You're you're playing,
you're the International Traveler. But tell us a little bit
about the game that will take place at Summit High School,
the Inland Valley All Star Classic. Give us, give us
some updates on that, coach.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
And so we have some really good players locked in.
It's uh, you know, it was a little bit of
a bumpy start getting things going after missing a couple
of years with the pandemic. Uh this this year, I
think for the first time since the pandemic, the kids
responded right away and they seem really fired up. It's
the granddaddy of all the games now in the in
the Inland area. And uh, yeah, I'm excited. I've got

(06:20):
some really good kids locked in, got some Uh, Trent
to go off top of my head, I guess from Edilwanda.
Guys coming. Obviously we have a Summit guy coming. We
have uh, let me think of the girls we have.
We have some girls from Benita from Beaumont. Just off
the top of my head. I actually have been working
on it while I've been on vacation. It's kind of weird.
I'm contacting kids from Mexico like a go so it's

(06:42):
it's actually pretty cool and uh, the thing for me,
I think the most fun part is interacting, you know,
via text with these kids and then getting to meet
them all like in the upcoming weeks that they you know,
gets to practice and at the game, they're just fired up.
I'm excited. It's gonna be a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
That's good stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Right here and again we're talking to the coach Romanelli
from Summit High School boys basketball.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Again, we have the Granddaddy coming up.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
And this is how it all started for us, right
here from the Inland Valley Classic, the all Star basketball
game from the Inland Valley. Like you said, you pull
you pulled from all over the place. Man, I mean again,
you're getting kids from Beau mind but just you know,
talk about that talent again. It's going to be a
girl and a boys game, So really excited about that.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
You know, I like to tell people that that this
thing started with an idea and a lot this guy
named Brian Arrington, and he came in and told me.
The thing that he told me was that he could
get uniforms from the game that the kids could keep them.
Right after we got it all turned out he had
no idea.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
I was all.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
Sit off running from that point.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
No, it really has man, Yeah, no, no, this is
this is exciting, man. That's why we were we were
talking about it behind the scenes. Again, this is going
to be our tenth year doing this, man, and it's
just been rocking and rolling. Uh. You know, what's one
of the what's one of the things that gets you
fired I mean, I mean, I know, like you said,
you're always excited about talking to the players, man, But

(08:07):
what's one of the things that gets you fired up
about doing this.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
All star game?

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Well, for me, historically go back to the first game,
and I told the kids and the girls in particular,
because they played the first game of the night, that
we didn't want it to be the typical All Star game,
which is boring to watch. Nobody plays hard, nobody cares,
and yeah, the joke, you know, we wanted them to
play as if they were going to be a you know, competitive,
real game because we do invite every local college coach

(08:32):
from junior college through Naia to anybody that's not restricted
by recruiting recruiting periods, so we do have about twenty
five college coaches that come out of you. Anyway, that
first year the girl set to come. Man, they had
such a good game.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
They competed so hard, yes they did.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
The boys couldn't couldn't help, but have to follow up
with the same and so we've kind of had that
vibe every year. It's not your typical BS All Star game.
It's a good competitive game where the kids could showcase
their talent. A lot of these kids will be playing
their last really competitive game in front of their family
and friends, yep, you know, because they're going to move
on to other things after they graduate. So so yeah,

(09:06):
for me, that's just to see the kids get one
last chance to lay it all out there in compete.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Absolutely. Once again, we have Coach Rome, head basketball coach
at Summit High School. We were talking about the Inland
Valley Basketball All Star Game over ten years old. And
that's you know, coach, You've been at this a long time.
You played high school ball, you still play in the
men's league coach for years, which still keeps you going
about basketball? Is it like loving hip hop? Or was
it loving basketball?

Speaker 5 (09:31):
It was funny I had. It's been a lifelong level there, man,
And I stopped playing at the pandemic.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
You know.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
He's playing the p with the kids in a six
year pee like in the spring, and I haven't done
it the last couple of years. I started playing again
about a month and a half ago. I just gisted
so much. I loved this, So I've picked it up
a little bit again. The needs get a little sore,
you know. You know, it's part of the part of
the process. Hey, you know what, while we're talking about
this special moment for me as a coach, the guy

(10:00):
that's gonna play in the game from Summit is named
Isaiah Kerr. Isaiah was I don't know, three months into
a summer career as a freshman. He's in my PD class.
Didn't know him, you know, And one day we're bs
and it's like October and out of the blue. He says, Hey, coach,
remember a guy named Randy Kerr. I go look at
him again, and I go, you're Randy Son, aren't you?
And sure enough, Isaiah was the son of one of

(10:22):
my players in two thousand and four and one of
my best teams.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
So that's that's a pretty.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Cool thing there, you go. Can't beat that with a
baseball bat.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
It also means I'm pretty old.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
You're getting no.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
That's what that makes exactly right there and again we're
talking to the coach Romanelli right there live on Fox
Sports Radio. He's making the trip. But coach, I tell
you what, man, real quick, do your thing. Let everybody
know when's going to happen, and uh and where the
game is gonna take played?

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Good? Do your PSA.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Okay, So the games are going to be on Sunday,
April to sixth at Summer High School. I have to
check the time with the referees.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
I believe the.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Girls will pip off at four four o'clock and the
boys at six o'clock because we have some stuff in between,
right right, But I'll put all that out there on
my Twitter and everything else. So uh, and.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
We'll definitely we'll put that out there.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
As well, right about two weeks away.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Just make sure we got those officials locked in. That's
another conversation.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Always.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yes, yes it is man, but a Garret coach roll man,
save travels back home for you and your family. We
appreciate you taking out the time to get a chance
to talk to us.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
Okay, he appreciate you, guys. Miss you guys see in
a couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yes, sir, there it is right there. Man again, save travels. Man,
appreciate your calling them today.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Can't beat that with a baseball man.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
And there it is man, coach.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Wrong you learned. I had to learn technology, man, so
I had to call him and then call into the station.
So yeah, man, the things that you learn that you
go along, Yes you do, man. You know speaking of that.
I know we got a couple of minutes. Speak of
that NCAA tournament. Man.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
You know you really you really want to talk about it?

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Huh since we only have a few minutes, Okay, okay,
I don't want to do a whole segment on this,
but I want to say, you know, big up to
Trinity Santia San Antonio. She was from Marino Valley, She
from Moval, just like a Kawhi, and then she ended
up at Centennial. She had an amazing career. She played
in the Olympics for the Puerto Rican team. I mean

(12:15):
she is a flat out baller. I can see her
getting a look either overseas or maybe even in the
g because she can flat out play basketball. Great player,
great season the girls. They ended up thirty two and three.
They had a they were at the American Sea, so
just gives you an idea. They started the season two
and two and ended the regular season at thirty thirty

(12:39):
two and three. They won on a thirty game win streak,
a thirty game win streak, winning the regular season Whack title,
and then they won the tournament. Unfortunately, my scheduling I
was off. I missed that championship game. And then the
GCU men won as well, and we were not tell

(13:00):
me about the Big West. So the Big West, I
was telling you was a team that was doing something
out there. And as you see San Diego, so u
San Diego just made the transition to d D one
and we went through this like for four years. You
can't go to the tournament, which makes no sense.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
So I wanted. So before I get into U see
San Diego. Big ups to GCU men's and women's first
time ever the girls went to the tournament. And this
is like coach Bryce Drew has been there five years.
This is his fourth year. Wow, going to the tournament.
Last year we won the first round game. Didn't do
it this year. Don't want to say that the score,
but you see San Diego the first time in NCAA

(13:34):
history that when the team is eligible, they sent their
men's and women's team. And that's what I was talking about.
So big ups to the local team you see Sandy.
I wouldn't say local, but big up to the Southern
California team. You see San Diego. I think they're the Tritents.
They went ahead and they sent their men's and women's

(13:55):
just like the Grand Canyon University Analoes. And as if
anyone knows me, if anyone knows anything about me, I
am a proud Antelope. I was in Las Vegas for
the tournament. Next year is going to be It's gonna
be unique because next year we're making the jump to
the uh UH, to the to the Mountain West. And
you know when when the wife and I were going

(14:16):
to Vegas. I wasn't paying attention. I made a wrong
turn and for the first time in my life, I
drove by UNLV.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
That is a big schools camp.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
We went by the Thomason Mac Oh, my goodness, that's
a that's a huge school hug.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
And then that football fields just sitting there now because
the team plays al right, the house Our Davis, Our Davis.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
But you know, it hurt because when we were there,
because the wife and I have been going to the
tournament for like the last four or five years and
Arizona was always there. Yeah, and this year there it
just it hurts that the PAC twelve is gone, but
it's still the PAC two. Yeah. But I'll say this.
I'm gonna say this. I'm going to get on my
soul box. Here you go, the Mountain West, the PAC

(14:55):
two just make up. Merge. We need a conference. We
need a power a conference in the West. Yes, we do.
If those two were to merge, there you go, you.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
Got yeah, you got it right there.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Here you go.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
It is right there. Fox Sports Radio. Coach B.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
That's all good man, No garanted' as you actually you

Fox Sports Am thirteen fifty. I am your host, Coach
B and I am.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
The host e Turner right here live at the iHeartRadio Studios.
You can hear us live every Saturday morning right here
on this hot microphone. And we do have a very
special guys as Young. When she came in, I thought
she was one of the players.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
She had to make sure. I said, that's a coach
right there.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
So coach, please do it the courtesy of introducing yourself
to our live radio audience.

Speaker 8 (18:09):
Plays Hi, I'm coach Chloe Wells. I am the Hillcrest
Trojans basketball coach. And we had a phenomenal season and
so we me and my ladies, we are here today.

Speaker 9 (18:18):
To talk about that.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
That's a good stuff, RIGHTA.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
She had.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yes first in the IVY League, the IVY League champs.
Talk about this memorable year. How it went for you guys.

Speaker 9 (18:28):
Oh, it was amazing.

Speaker 8 (18:29):
It started off like the wild boll West because these
girls hadn't played au or anything like that. Yeah, and
so over the course of the season, we made like
ten years of growth in one season.

Speaker 9 (18:39):
So it was amazing and I just loved it. Yeah,
every step of the way.

Speaker 8 (18:44):
We started off we lost five games early, okay, and
from there we took off. We cut the fat and
we just kept climbing and climbing and climbing, and it
was phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
You know.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
One of the things that's funny because we got a
chance to and again we're right here live with coach
Chloe Wells of the hill US girls basketball the championship.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Yes, the champions right there.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
But I was really nice, but we saw the you
guys are doing an amazing job on your social media.
Really like what you guys are doing. You're putting yourself
out there. I saw some of the testimonials from the
parents and they're just talking about what a great year
was with the girls. Give our for our audience to
may maybe not be familiar with you, talk about your
background and kind of how you got to come to Hillcrest.

Speaker 9 (19:23):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
So I played eighty miller, won two CIF championships, and then.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
I went, yeah, we had our coach.

Speaker 8 (19:32):
I was there two thousand and six to.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
We just had them on our show. This is a
second ago. Yes, yeah, with a small world, that's crazy,
but please Okay.

Speaker 8 (19:43):
So then I went to Duke twenty ten to fourteen,
same years Kyrie.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Irving, so she was a boat. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (19:52):
And then I went and played overseas for ten years.

Speaker 8 (19:54):
Okay, professionally I was in Brazil, Russia, Israel, all over.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Well, she ain't got to tell us all, you know friends, yes, yes.

Speaker 8 (20:09):
So then after that, this is my first year not
playing basketball, okay, and so I inherited the girls. They
were seven and whatever last season, and then this season
we went twenty five and seven.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Congratulations, that is good stuff right there now I know,
of of course.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Oh no, no, it's all good. Twenty five have a ten
and oh in Lee wow. And you know, I'll just
say this, got to give you respect to getting the Duke.
Duke is one of the best universities in the nation.
So you had to have grades. So is that something
that you let your young ladies know that if you
don't have.

Speaker 8 (20:39):
Grades, Oh, yes, without a doubt. My kids are like
almost going to be valvictorians.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (20:44):
Yeah, yeah, we're serious about the grades.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
I believe that we have the best grades at the
school as far as sports are concerned.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Oh wow, congratulated twenty five and up.

Speaker 9 (20:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (20:53):
We don't play about the grades. If you ain't got
the grades, don't even come to the court.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
That's why I can't show up. I didn't show up
because coming out to high school, right right, So when
you were when you have your young ladies out there
and you can tell them you've been there, you know,
you played high school basketball at high level. You want
to do one of the best universities there is, and
then you played overseas. Is that something that you can say, Hey,
I've been there, so listen up, you know, Oh.

Speaker 9 (21:15):
Yeah, without a doubt. I tell the girls I'm an
expert coach.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
I've been where you guys have been. Listen to me,
and they did, and that's how we took off. And
it's like total buy in, not just from the girls though,
from the parents too.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
That's why I didn't play.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Now, now again, what would you say, because, like you said,
when you got started, you guys know, lost five games.
What was what would you contribute? What would you attribute
the turnaround to As a coach.

Speaker 8 (21:41):
I got invested into their personal lives. So I wasn't
just a coach on the court. It was like, Okay,
I want you to be amazing in all aspects of
your life.

Speaker 9 (21:49):
So I got to get to know you.

Speaker 8 (21:50):
And so once I did, they trusted me and I
trusted them and we just took off.

Speaker 9 (21:55):
So that was a lot of it.

Speaker 8 (21:56):
And then the accountability piece, yes, I made sure like, Okay,
if you're not getting your y'all done, I'm gonna let
you know, and everybody else gonna hear me, let you know.
They're gonna be like, oh, I got to get my
job done.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Right, right, right right. That's good stuff, good stuff. That's
what younger siblings do. I watched, you know, my mother
got on my brother.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
But so I'm not gonna do that right right, And
you know.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
I want to talk about the growth of the game.
How excited are like? I used to be talking about
this on air last year. I tried to pick apart Kaitlyn,
but she she's legit. But tell me about the growth
of the females. I know we're talking about your girl
young ladies, but I always want to hear like your thoughts,
like did you ever see this coming? I mean the game,
like Angel reads all them.

Speaker 9 (22:31):
The game has changed now. These ladies are more athletic too.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Yeah right, dunk right.

Speaker 9 (22:36):
Oh, I wasn't ready for that.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
I wasn't dunk it either.

Speaker 8 (22:41):
The different moves though, we're not out when all you know,
it's just could change completely. Everybody has trainers. It's just
completely different. But it's in a good, good way.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Yes, yes, and you know the goats from out here Cheryl, Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
we have to make sure we acknowledge that again. Fox
Sports Radio out here live with the Championship. Uh, he'll Trojan, No,
is it the lady Trojan?

Speaker 10 (23:02):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (23:03):
How do you? How do you work?

Speaker 9 (23:04):
Say the Trojans? But I call my kids to come
back kids?

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Oh, the comeback here. Okay, I like that. I like
that right now. Now again, you have how many players
do you have with you, Todax players? You have six players? Okay,
so real quick, give us some background on some of
the players that you have here in the studio, so
well we can before we get a chance to bring
them on there.

Speaker 8 (23:18):
Yes, so I have Cadence. Most of my juniors are
here today, and then I have one you're young. Yes,
so we have Cadence.

Speaker 9 (23:25):
She's our anchor. She's always steady for us.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
And then we have Zoe, she's our assassin and she's
be smoked. Yes, then we need Zoe gets it done.
Then we have Zanaylah Jackson. She is our spark plug.
She comes off the bench or sometimes she starts to,
but she is a dog.

Speaker 9 (23:41):
And then we have Raylene Valades. She's our playmaker.

Speaker 8 (23:45):
She could shoot it, dribble it, whatever we need. She'll
get it done for us too. We have Alex alex
Is freddy Krueger nightmare. I do not want to see that.
We have a Maya Maya, she's the one who does
our social media story.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Okay, okay, that you got to have somebody's doing that
social media big shout out to the social media coordinate.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
The tiktoks. Yeah yeah, like, have you guys done one
yet today?

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Not going for Yeah, we're gonna get him in the hallway.
They can do what time we were here doing the
show me turn like what is all that? It was
a girl man girl, and then do the TikTok. I
don't remember what team. I couldn't remember either, but they
were very very energetic about it. So yeah, that's good stuff, right,
there again, coach. We are so excited to have you
guys here in the studio. It's really great. Again, congratulations

(24:34):
on the season. So I mean they're gonna That means
you guys are going to be coming back again next year.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
You know today is game day? Correct? No, no, no, yeah, okay, okay,
but I got to ask you this. I gotta see
see what what do you you got on? What jays
you got on today? Let it be know, let me know.

Speaker 9 (24:54):
She was.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
I said, don't do that, please, that's good stuff right there.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
Well you got her. She got so many jo She's like,
I don't know which ones I got them.

Speaker 3 (25:07):

you being the studio with us. We're gonna bring we're

Hi, my name is Danila Jackson. I played for Chris
Hill Chris girls basketball team.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
Now, you guys are champions?

Speaker 11 (27:08):
Yes, we are.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Is that a big thing on school at school right now?

Speaker 11 (27:13):
Yeah, We've been getting like honored from like our school
board and like you know, like staff around you know,
everybody's been telling us like congratulations and stuff. You know,
it took it took a lot for us to earn that.
There you go, It took a lot for us to
earn that. It took a lot for us to like
even like for people to you want to come and
watch us. So I think that, Yeah, I think it's
a big thing at our school.

Speaker 10 (27:33):
Now.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
That's good stuff now real quick, because again, you guys
had an amazing guys to have an amazing record ten
and on league.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yes, and you guys were twenty four and seven.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Is there a game for you this year that stood
out where you were like, you know what this is
this team can do it? Is there like anything like
that happened during the season, I.

Speaker 11 (27:53):
Would say, Well, for me because I came back from
an injury, so I wasn't able to play with my
team for the first part of season. But for me,
I would say, like I thought my team could do it.
I think that we just needed like I think we
were able to be I think I believe that.

Speaker 9 (28:09):
We could do it from the beginning.

Speaker 11 (28:10):
And then our first like for me to like be like,
oh yeah, we got this, like we're gonna win like
a ring and stuff, I think I think like cif
completely like first round, we won that game. Yeah, we
came back from you know, being a couple points down
and then we came back and won by twenty. Yeah,
and then like our other games are I think our
most competitive game was I'd say, like we played a

(28:31):
team called Crawford. They we thought like they was gonna
come out and like want it. They came out, they
came out like played really hard, they were very aggressive,
and we were like that was the most team that
the most like we ever faced like that, Like, yeah,
we were never played a team that like really like pressured.

Speaker 9 (28:46):
Us like that or whatever.

Speaker 11 (28:46):
So it was kind of like like a new like
we had to adapt to it a little bit, but
we were able to come back. We wanted overtime by
I think two points or three.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Yeah, congratulates that game right there.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
So what what great are you?

Speaker 9 (28:59):
And again I'm a junior.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
So you're coming back next year?

Speaker 11 (29:02):
Yes? I will?

Speaker 1 (29:03):
So what are your goals for next year? What are
you looking to do next year?

Speaker 11 (29:06):
Honestly, the same thing kind of like, you know, win
it all, you know, help my team, you know, hopefully
this time we go to state. You know, too bad
we fell short this year.

Speaker 9 (29:15):
The goal for this year.

Speaker 11 (29:16):
Win another ring, you know, get the opportunity to win
a state ring as well, you know one for the
other hand, And I say, just like win and play
together and stuff.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Would you surprised if the success you guys had this
year or is it just all the work you put in?

Speaker 11 (29:31):
I think I wouldn't say it surprise kind of because
last year felt like we had a like not really
a good season at all. So like, yes, it was surprised,
like dang, like you know, maybe like we thought it's
not us as players. We just didn't believe in ourselves,
and you know, we got a new coach, coach Chloe,
so she came and helped us and helped us believe
and taught us news things that we didn't really know.

(29:52):
So we were able to come back from that and
win it all. So yeah, I was kind of surprised, like,
oh my gosh, we really made it here. It kind
of took a while to like realize, so we're really here.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
There, you got congratulations right there?

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Yeah, well again, congratulations. We appreciate you coming to studios today. Okay,
there it is right there, Fox Sports Radio. We have
Hillcrest High School girls basketball. These are the IVY and
you got you guys are the IVY League chaps that car.
I want to make sure I get that right. Yes,
okay there she was like, yeah, put and put some
respect on it. She said, Okay, young gut, they put
that microphone. I want to make sure the whole world
and here you introduce yourself to our live radio audience.

Speaker 11 (30:23):
Place my names of my branch. Come. I'm a point
guard at the Hillcrest and the girls basketball team.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Okay, now, now, how did you become the the the
default social media person? Tell everybody about how that came
to be, and she put that microphone. I want to
make the whole world, and there you go.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
She set up the the.

Speaker 11 (30:44):
But please, basically, last year, I feel like, no shade,
no shade at all.

Speaker 9 (30:49):
I'm not gonna name drop nothing.

Speaker 11 (30:51):
But our social media wasn't really ran too good and
we weren't really getting any like not exposure, but people
didn't really know anything about the team. So I was like,
this year, like, we're gonna be putting on this hard
work and we want people to show up and show
out for our game.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Yeah, let them know she's standing like that.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
Now, now I ask you the same thing. I got
a chance to ask one of your teammates. Was there
a game this season where you kind of felt like, Okay,
our team, really, we're a champion, we can do this.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
What game was it for you this year?

Speaker 11 (31:18):
I really feel like it was the first round of
CIF because during league we played some we played a
few teams and it wasn't too much competition for us.
So honestly, like we came into a lot of the
games obviously we wanted to win, but it was wins
that we kind of expected to get out of So
then when we came into Cif, We're like, oh, shoot,

(31:39):
like we're going against like these are these girls are
actually yeah?

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Yeah Yeah.

Speaker 11 (31:43):
Then when we were down that game, we were almost
down by like seven or eight points, I was like, oh,
like we might be.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Cooked, y'all.

Speaker 9 (31:50):
Yeah, it was only the first quarter.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (31:53):
So then we came back and we ended up beating
them by twenty points. That was like almost a thirty
point comeback. So I was like, wait, like we might actually.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Be good guys, right right right? So was that the
moment for you what you realize you guys could do
something special this season?

Speaker 9 (32:06):
Yes? Definitely.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Was there a favorite moment for you this year?

Speaker 11 (32:10):
Yes, My favorite moment this year was the Crawford game.
That during that game we were down. We've never been
in the overtime before, and we ended up being in overtime,
not only in overtime, but down by six with a
minute and ten left. Wow, and our coach she calls
us in a huddle. I'm like, oh my god, nothing
is gonna save us right now. And then so she's
just like, you.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
Guys just gotta believe, Like I believe you guys.

Speaker 11 (32:32):
Are just like coach like I literally told her, I
look at her in her face and go, it's over.

Speaker 10 (32:36):
Oh wow.

Speaker 11 (32:37):
I should have never did that because she proved me
wrong once again.

Speaker 9 (32:42):
I was right.

Speaker 11 (32:42):
But and then so we went out and then she
had to play running to me. I was like, why
would you run the play to me? And I'm like,
just I'm done. And I was like, you know what,
like I'm gonna just I'm gonna still do it. Like
if she thinks we can win, all right, bet we
might as well try. So I come down and I
shoot a three and now we're only down by three
points and I'm like, wait, like we got a little
bit of time, guys. And then my teammate Zoe gets

(33:04):
it still on defense and goes full court and gets
it and one and ties the game and makes her
free throw. So that was like and then like the
whole gym was like going crazy.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
It was so fun. That's good thing there. That's the
second teammate that they mentioned that game.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yes, yes, that's good stuff. Will again, young lady. Keep
up the wonderful work you guys are doing on social media.
And congratulations, we're glad you're here in the studio. Okay,
there it is what the wonderful work she's doing.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
So yeah, there it is right there again Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
We are right here with the champions, the IVY League Champions,
c IF, uh, the CIF champions as well. We are
here with Hillcrest girls basketball. Young lady, put that microphone up.
Introduce yourself to our live radio audience.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Play.

Speaker 11 (33:45):
Hi, I'm Ray Lane Valadez.

Speaker 10 (33:47):
I'm a shooting guard on.

Speaker 11 (33:48):
The Hills basketball.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Okay, fantastic. Now, how talk about what the season meant
to you? You guys obviously did a wonderful thing this year,
but how was it for you personally?

Speaker 9 (33:58):
This season was very personal.

Speaker 11 (34:00):
I came back from an ACL injury, so this season
was very important to me because I couldn't play last season,
and then I also didn't even play like the full season,
like the beginning of season through league. I came like
halfway through. So it was very important that we made
it all the way through. When we like win a ring,
it was like I was very grateful and appreciative of

(34:21):
like of my team and the hard work we put through.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
That's good stuff and eternal, you know, I know that's
like coming back from injury was no talent.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
I had a lack of talent, So you're right, right,
and that's why we weren't playing right right.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
So what was it like for you when you get
through that injury? You go through that and then to
go back out there and be able to play. I'm
going to lift through you because I never got on
the court. But what was that life for you to
get back out there and say, hey, I can I
can play?

Speaker 9 (34:46):
It was definitely it was. It was a lot.

Speaker 11 (34:48):
It took a lot of hard work, but it had
a lot of ups and downs. But my coach, like
she she lifted me through all of it, and my
team got me through it a lot because there was
games where like I felt like dang, like I'm not
as good as I used to be, or like dang,
I might not be.

Speaker 9 (35:03):
Able to be able to do this.

Speaker 11 (35:04):
But I've had those like feelings through a game and
then I came back and scored fifteen or twenty and
I my team will She said, yes, she had.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
I just dropped that on you.

Speaker 11 (35:16):
So this season was very personal, but I'm very grateful
for my team.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
That's good stuff, right, And turn O, I don't know
about you, but those times in practice I would say
to myself.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I'm just trashed.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
So I don't know if you ever had that conversation
with yourself.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
I try to stay away from that. But again, young lady,
we appreciate it. We are so happy you guys were
in the studio to day and again congratulations on your season. Okay,
there it is Fox Sports Radio again. We're all right
here live in the in the studio with the CIF
champs and IVY League Champ ten and OER one League
Hillcrest Girls Basketball, Young dady, put that microphone up. Introduce
yourself to a love radio audience.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
Hi, my name is Kadence Garcia.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
I'm a small forward for Hillcrists girls basketball team.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Okay, is that you mama hair? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (35:52):
Okay, come on, come on, come on, you can go ahead.
No you, I mean you could, you could just I mean,
I want to make sure you get get a shot
of your your your daughter and everything real quickly. You
look like you extremely proud of her. Tell everybody what
your name is real quick. Let everybody know.

Speaker 9 (36:03):
Good morning. My name is jacque Lyn Artis.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
And I am the mother of there go there thats
good stuff right there now, miss I, miss Cadus. Now
tell everybody How was this season for you personally? I
know this was an amazing you guys really did well
for the school. Put the school on it. I mean
the school is already on the map, but really put
the school on the map.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
How was it for you personally?

Speaker 11 (36:22):
This season was very important to me. I didn't really
have I've never really had like a team as important
as this one. It's been like, it's just been an
amazing season. Last year I transferred into this school, I
wasn't sure if I was going to continue basketball.

Speaker 9 (36:37):
Because I was like, I don't know.

Speaker 11 (36:39):
I heard this team's good.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
I'm asked too sure.

Speaker 11 (36:41):
And then I came in I had to sit off
and then my first game back I injured myself, so
I wasn't able to play last season.

Speaker 9 (36:47):
I came back this season and.

Speaker 11 (36:49):
Our record wasn't so good, and I was like, Okay,
you know this is gonna be like a tough season again.

Speaker 9 (36:55):
Let's make it through, guys.

Speaker 11 (36:56):
And then coach Chloe comes in and.

Speaker 9 (36:58):
We're like, what's going on here? Like I don't know what?

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Who is she?

Speaker 9 (37:02):
Why is she yelling at us?

Speaker 11 (37:05):
And yeah, she came in and she just she worked
her magic. Like we we our whole team, like, not
even just on the court, but we all just came
so much closer as like a team, Like our chemistry
grew off the court more than it did like on
and off the court. Like it was just an amazing season.
And these girls are my family, they're my sisters now,
and I wouldn't change.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
It for anything.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
That's wonderful. I love to hear stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
So now you're sitting here smiling, when you're out there
lacing somebody up, do you smile like that? It's just.

Speaker 11 (37:33):
Well, we're up by twenty points, right, No, I'm probably
the last one to be smiling on the court. I'll
be setting some really nasty screams and I'll be getting
scared that these girls are gonna get injured or something.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Sometimes got to do. Who's the best trash talker on
the team.

Speaker 11 (37:51):
Probably a Maaya tall trash anywhere the core is on
the stand.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Oh yeah, you want to you want to go?

Speaker 6 (37:58):
You know?

Speaker 1 (38:01):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
That's good stuff. Well, congratulations, we are so happy that
you guys. Again, you guys are CIO champions, and again congratulations,
keep up to good work.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
Happy, happy in studio.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Okay, Smiley Turner, I can't see it.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
The switch fo Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
We are right here live with Hillcraft Girls basketball again,
right here in the great city of Riverside. Young lady,
put that microphone up. Introduce yourself to our live radio audience.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Please.

Speaker 11 (38:23):
My name is Zoe Bower, aka the Assassin. I'm the
powerful for Hills Basketball.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
Okay, there it is, by standing on, she said, she said,
the Assassin. Let it, let it be know. Tell them
we don't play ball, don't.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
I don't need one on one right now real quick.
But I mean now, are you watching the tournament right now?
Are you watching the women's tournament? The boy, I mean
the men? Are you involved in n c A A
watching it all?

Speaker 11 (38:46):
No, I haven't started yet, but but.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
You're playing on it though. Yes, Okay, okay, That's why
I wanted to want to make sure. Now I'll ask
you the same question to ask your teammates. Is there
a game or did you have, like a game where
you just really went off this season?

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Tell it?

Speaker 4 (38:57):
Let me know which one it was.

Speaker 11 (38:59):
It was most definitely my forty point game. I remember
before the game my coach was telling me like, Heyzo,
you like you're you're good enough you could drop like
twenty thirty forty points if you wanted to, maybe even sixty.
And right as we were doing that, she had me
do some a couple of drills and after that, right
when the game started, it just went off.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Now real quick, have you seen have you seen tape
of your coach play yet?

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Yes?

Speaker 11 (39:23):
I have?

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Was she nice?

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Very so she's standing on business there right with whatever
she's telling you is legit, right?

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (39:30):
There, it is good stuff right there.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
I love it. So forty points that's more than my
four year in high school. So what was that feeling like?
Did you just say? Did you just get that feeling? Like?
I'm cooking to nice to night?

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Put a microphone. I want to make sure everybody can hear.

Speaker 11 (39:43):
Today though I didn't even know I was dropping that
many points.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Now, that's you know, that's when you know you have
who's the.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
One that told you? Like what you're like? Okay, wait
a minute, you got thirty right now, you might go
you might get forty?

Speaker 1 (39:52):
Who told you that?

Speaker 11 (39:53):
Well? I wasn't told until I caught a cramp at
the end of the game. So they had took me
out and as soon as I got on the bench,
my coach was like, you have forty.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Wow, what game was that? Do you know who are
you playing?

Speaker 6 (40:04):
Were?

Speaker 3 (40:06):
She remembers, right, well, well, young lady again, we're gonna
be looking forward to you next years. I mean, you
guys gonna be stay champions next year. That's that's what
that is there, it is right business.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
We'll keep up the good work. We'll keep eye on you. Okay,
there it is right there, Fox Sports Radio. Clearly right,
we are here with the champion Hillcrest uh Young Lake.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
Girls basketball right here live in Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Again.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
We have the players here, we have coach Chloe Wells
right here in the studio. But young lady, please do
it the courtesy of introducing yourself to our live radio audience.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
Please.

Speaker 10 (40:36):
Hi, I'm Alexander Sanchez, and I'm captain and I'm guard.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
You're a guard. Okay, fantastic.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Now, now tell everybody like team, when your team captain,
that means something right there? How will you uh tell
them everybody the process of you becoming captain for the
for the Hillcrest girls basketball team.

Speaker 10 (40:52):
I feel it was more just showing my dedication and
commitment towards the team and not just towards the team,
towards myself, and towards the sport as well. And it
also took a lot being captain because as captain, it's
not just your mistakes that you have to look for,
it's everybody else's. And you have to keep that type
of confidence on the court and off the court that

(41:13):
you can't really show your scaredness because if you show
your scaredness, then it's gonna just.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Yes, I like that. Now, was there a game that
stood out for you this season? I ask you the
same question ask you your players. Was there one, like
a specific game that kind of stood out this year?

Speaker 10 (41:28):
Probably my senior night?

Speaker 4 (41:30):
Okay, okay, who do you guys play that night?

Speaker 10 (41:33):
Sit yourself?

Speaker 4 (41:33):
Okay okay? And what was special about that night?

Speaker 10 (41:37):
It was just being able to finish that last game
with my other fellow captain. She's also a senior. She's
not here with this, but it just felt amazing finishing
it off with her because that was the person I
came into this journey with. Yeah, and it just it
felt amazing being able to finish that just with her.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
That's good stuff, right that? Now, you you won sixty
three eighteen on that senior did you have. But was
there a game this year when you said your senior year,
you're you're you're graduating. Was there a game this year
where you thought yourself, we're going to be special this year.

Speaker 10 (42:09):
I think probably after that first CIF game, because that
was our first time ever being in like that type
of predicament. So us walking in in there with the
confidence that we had and just looking overlooking all of
our scaredness and just coming with a goal and succeeding
that goal was just right proof that we were here

(42:30):
to do it.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Good stuff right there.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
That's an amazing stuff right there.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
Well, congratulations, young lady, finishing off your your senior season
the right way and keep up the good work. We're
happy to have you in the studio. Okay, there is
right there, Fox Sports, right, do we have anymore? Let's
bring us bring coach back here real quick. That's good
stuff right there.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
Coach is hert?

Speaker 3 (42:46):
Yeah yeah, coaches are clearly now Coach, I gotta ask
you this now, did you when you came in like
the coach that the players saying you were yelling at everybody,
which is hilarious, But tell everybody, did you play your
did you play the highlights for the real quick just
to let them know what's going on.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
Did you tell them to google you? How did that
process work?

Speaker 8 (43:02):
I believe I put it in a group chat. Put
so I put it in the group chat so they
could see me, so they could know like, oh, she's
for real and she's out here talking.

Speaker 9 (43:10):
Because most coaches, they don't get out there.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
No, no, no, for guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
You look like you can still.

Speaker 8 (43:14):
Play a little bit, get out there on the court
like I did some bear cross with them, like, but
I was going through it with them.

Speaker 9 (43:21):
We were all in the trenches.

Speaker 3 (43:22):
Right, Yeah, yeah, that's good. And and tell everybody about that.
I mean, obviously that's there's a there's a different kind
of level of respect that happens when they actually know
that you went through that process and had success with
it as well.

Speaker 6 (43:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (43:34):
So once I showed them, I know, they watched.

Speaker 8 (43:37):
And then one of my kids, I trained her since
she was like in the seventh grade, she was telling
them before I got there, like, hey, she's a good coach.
And so then when I got there, I would get
out there with the girls. But I also told them like, no,
you guys are special. They're like coach we're not. We
only won seven games. Like I'm like, no, no, I
see it right right right. I spoke to the greatness
in them and then I got on court and showed

(43:58):
them to and then it started to in the games
and they were like, oh, okay, maybe.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
When you show them do you Jail writer tells this story,
he said, you know when when you first met Kobe,
Kobe said, hey, let's do it one on one. You
ever do that to show them that you know what
size people are. Everybody who came in and knew he
wanted to play one on one? You ever show them layers?
That's like, I got this.

Speaker 8 (44:17):
I think a couple of times in the beginning we
played like ones on the wing or something like that.
But for me, it was more of showing them where
they could be successful.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
Y been there, You've been there, done that was like,
don't let me drop forty of you real quick. But again, coach,
we are so happy for you guys. We know again
you guys are. What I was really attracted to was
just again with you guys your social media presence. UH
really loved those testimonials a by the parents and show

(44:44):
them you guys really have made a pivot and turned
to turn the program around. And so real quick, I
want to make sure we always do this. I'm gonna
give you a chance to kind of give some shout
out to your your assistant coaches as well as the
faculty as well. I know the faculty there was helpful
for you guys as well. Overright here christ Place.

Speaker 8 (44:59):
Yes, I would like to shout out my sister. She's
my assistant coach. You had providence in the big.

Speaker 3 (45:03):
Okay, Wow, it's a family Affair's a family affair.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
And now she's older.

Speaker 9 (45:07):
I'm the baby in my family.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
Okay, see okay, okay, you went to do so that
makes sense? Not real quick?

Speaker 3 (45:12):
So you're called and now can we because coach I'm
the big brother, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (45:17):
And and coach be the little brother youngest. I'm the youngest.

Speaker 3 (45:22):
Now is it little sister? Or is it or is
it younger sister?

Speaker 1 (45:26):
How is that for me?

Speaker 9 (45:27):
I'm the baby?

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Okay, so you'ree you see that? Girls? Girls? Okay, the baby.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
But please, I'm sorry, I digress, Please your sister to
shout out.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
No providence she went.

Speaker 8 (45:39):
To Okay, and then so faculty on campus, the track coach, Oh,
my gosh, he canceled the track meet for us support.
We had a lot of support from the faculty and
so it was just a really great season.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
Fantastic. Well, I got to know who you got in
the bracket? Are you my bracket busted? Is it all?

Speaker 9 (45:57):
No, it's not busted. I want Duke to one, of course.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
What do you think about a flag? It's amazing generation. Yeah. Yeah,
he's the truth.

Speaker 9 (46:05):
But he's a little hurt.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
Right right, He is a little friend. If you were him,
do you come back or do you pack it in doubt?

Speaker 9 (46:13):
Get ready for Kobe?

Speaker 1 (46:14):
Okay, okay, I like that. Don't let the school taste.
Look at what are you talking about? I love that?
Right there?

Speaker 4 (46:23):
Couse again, keep up the good work.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 4 (46:25):
We are so happy to have you guys here in studio.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Because when you talk about being eternal, I get me
and don't tell me about don't tell him aout the
time you interviewed them, and we did.

Speaker 3 (46:37):
We did the locker room interview too, I mean almost
almost almost.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
Ain't right.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
He gets sweaty, And that's Kobe.

Speaker 1 (46:45):
Answer your question. He did?

Speaker 11 (46:48):
He did?

Speaker 1 (46:48):
He did. That's called me. You know, I was a
moment allowed me to come. He only gave one pass
and I wasn't.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
That's funny stuff. But again called keep up the good work.
We're happy to having a studio again. Best of luck
next season so you guys can be coming back state champion.

Speaker 9 (47:01):
Yeah, okay, you gotta come to a game.

Speaker 4 (47:02):
Oh no, we're coming to a game for sure.

Speaker 8 (47:04):
The atmosphere and be like, oh this is diffent, like
got it all going up there.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
That's how I think about the Duke Arena. What do
you call it?

Speaker 9 (47:11):
The Cameron crazy camera.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Got and that's a real thing.

Speaker 9 (47:15):
That's a real thing.

Speaker 8 (47:15):
Okay, but we got some crazy that hell because they
go crazy on the Okay.

Speaker 9 (47:22):
It's a great it's a great atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (47:24):

Speaker 9 (47:25):
They have the best are snack.

Speaker 3 (47:26):
Bar black Okay, no shout out mind with my name man, Okay, okay,

Speaker 1 (49:18):
Is real quick.

Speaker 3 (49:19):
A backstory, Coach Bick, I know, I want to make
sure you talk about that that huge upset that.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
Just happened already. Coach people walking here.

Speaker 3 (49:28):
He was like, I don' won't talk about I don't
talk about it, but a big shout out to coach Rome.

Speaker 4 (49:32):
I don't know if you see his text.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
Coach, and especially during this time of year, he's talking
about somebody very very special to me. Big shout out
to my main man, Coach Howell. He is my former
English teacher over at Ramona High School and it was
so funny when he came in there.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
Heed to this guy is like Iron Man used to
ride his.

Speaker 3 (49:54):
Bike to I mean, don't fight this guy yes, I mean,
I mean he used to ride his bike to schools,
always in good shape. All the young ladies of everybody
just loved it because he'd a good look of guy.

Speaker 1 (50:03):
Yeh.

Speaker 3 (50:04):
And he ended up turning once he became our English
teacher while we Why I have an affection toward him
is because he said, look, man, it was March Madness
coming on.

Speaker 4 (50:13):
He goes, look, let me tell you what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna have the TV on.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
Uh huh.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
You can come in here anytime. I'm gonna have March
Madison and you can. You can copy squad right here,
and you can watch the tournament with us. So that
right there is how he got friends with all the
basketball guys, and then the next year he ended up
being the basketball coach. He was the basketball coach at
Ramona for a couple of years, and now he is
the athletic director over at a Royal Valley. And from

(50:38):
what I hear, he still rides his bike to work
and he's still out there swimming at five am. So
he's he's like Ironman dot com. But but I digress,
coach be talk about the huge upset.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
I think I'm looking at it this is God. This
is the bracket. It shows that Memphis lost to Colorado Stable. Wow,
this is the bracket because Maryland. Wow, is Maryland meet
beat U Grand King. It's just so everyone knows. Man,
the campus is nowhere near the Grand Canyon. Man, it's
like three hours away. People always ask me that it's

(51:10):
called Grand Canyon because it's the Grand Canyon State. But yes,
so so they they want a big matchup that I'm
looking forward to is Houston and Gonzaga. It always seems
like no matter where Gonzaga is, they always give you
a run. U c l A is taking on Tennessee.
What do you got now? Oh?

Speaker 4 (51:25):
Yeah, no, I you know, I really want U c
l A to do well.

Speaker 3 (51:29):
But I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, Big Oscar he would he would
enjoy that conversation right there.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
Big shout to my man.

Speaker 3 (51:39):
Oscar Edwards h a U c l A alum Rose
Bowl winner as well.

Speaker 4 (51:43):
Yeah, but uh, you know I know that, I know that.

Speaker 3 (51:47):
Speaking of Duke coach b we have a we have
one of our alumnist as well.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
We have missed Chloed that way.

Speaker 3 (51:54):
Wait no, no, that's ari long, big shout out to
Ari Long who is on the hot look hot WHOA
sorry about that, Ari Long and she's over. She has
an Oregon duck and the Ducks one as well, so
they're gonna be playing tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (52:09):
They'll have Duke. That's gonna be a huge game.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
And again we're talking about that's women's basketball on that
and that bracket right there. So you know this is
always I'm telling you, I just those games.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
You just never necessary. It's a toss.

Speaker 3 (52:21):
Up and you have to be on a real, real run.
I mean, because any you could just lose, have an
off day and that's it.

Speaker 1 (52:27):
Coach that is and you know that's the one thing
about the one that done. And I'm really nervous because USC.
And here's the thing about this, when when when when
USC and U c l A go to the Big
Ten they both got a number one seed? Is that
crazy or what? USC and U c l A both
got a number one seed? Yeah? I know, this is
what I don't like. We talk about this when Bosco

(52:48):
and when Bosco has to play modern day, USC and
U c l A didn't play once this year, they
didn't play twice this year, three times, three times, and
in the USC got in the first two, lost the
third to win to lose the tournament, kind of like
and Terry Christian.

Speaker 3 (53:04):
You know, it's funny because we're gonna have a big
shout out to Coach Stan. We were Coach stand and
I had a great conversation last night. We're also gonna
have them in studio and big shout out to them
is because Coach.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
Stan and uh, the.

Speaker 3 (53:15):
Gatoray Player of the Year Aleana puff Morris, we're on
Channel five last night, you.

Speaker 4 (53:20):
Know, getting some TV time.

Speaker 1 (53:21):
Love State champed her since she was a freshman.

Speaker 4 (53:24):
We've seen her since she.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
Was a freshman.

Speaker 3 (53:25):
She is a three time state champion, coach and a
national champ and the national.

Speaker 4 (53:30):
Champion last year.

Speaker 3 (53:32):
Coach Stan, I mean, I thought he was gonna get
a emotion on the phone last night because he was
he was so fired up. He's still fired up right now.
He was like, this is one everybody doubted us. Everybody,
you know, he said, man like, like as if we
weren't the guys returning champions. So it was really really
special to see that.

Speaker 1 (53:46):
Uh, it was.

Speaker 4 (53:47):
It was just a great atmosphere right there.

Speaker 3 (53:49):
So we're really excited for coach Stan and then we're
also excited for uh uh Roosevelt as well, Eastville Roosevelt
because again, Brandon Berry's forty four points would he had
in thatchampionship game. They're talking about that like that might
be better than.

Speaker 4 (54:02):
Uh uh uh uh what's our guy's name?

Speaker 1 (54:07):
What his name? Tracy?

Speaker 3 (54:08):
Uh Tracy, Tracy Murray. He was at Glendale and he
had sixty five. He he was no joke back.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
But they forget about the guy that that went to Polly.
I don't know whatever happened to him and his sister,
but they always forget about what was he he put
up because I put up over one hundred.

Speaker 3 (54:23):
Yeah, but but this is in the championship game though,
this is a championship game. So yeah, so so that
so this is when uh so Tracy Tracy Murray did it.
And then also, drum roll, Jason Kidd did it as
well in a in a state championship game.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
So those are two guys.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
So Brandon Burry's is clearly on his way to doing
some special stuff right now. I mean, every college you
can think of is salivating over this young man, and
so I'm happy to see what happens to him going forward.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
So yeah, so it's kind of like what Rome said,
it's it's those days of the traditional powers of over
when you had the what was our guy that was
at Kentucky when he went to Arkansas. Uh I said, yeah,
it's a new day. Yeah, college basketball because the guy
from Tyson Chicken and the Walmart family said, Hey, we're
gonna go ahead, We're investing in Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:07):
I mean, you know, it was it was funny because
you know, another one of our radio mates, gottlieb uh
he was talking and he was talking about that, you
know again like when you play certain colleges. He was
literally like, hey, our our nil money is roughly around
one hundred grand. But teams like Ohio State and again
that's just that's just Ohio State. We're not talking about
the big time school. He goes this school right there.

(55:29):
You just played an Ohio State team. That's four million
dollars in Nio money. So that's just how it is
right there, kid, These kids are getting broke offices, just
a brand new day. I got a chance to speak
to our guy, mister Holland. Big shout out to my
guy Holland, and he was talking about how his son
is coaching for Oh goodness, he's coaching for Colorado State.
Actually that's what he's uh basketball, Yeah, men's basketball. And

(55:52):
again this is this is Holland. He actually played in
our All Star game. But he's now an assistant coach
getting paid some big money and he's still going to
school as well.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
So big out to Holland. They had a big win.
They beat they talk about yes, yes and penny yes
they so.

Speaker 4 (56:05):
They end up beat they beat them.

Speaker 3 (56:06):
Right, Yes, so they have a matchup because he called
me right before the game and they were in Seattle.

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Yes, yes, so they're in Seattle right now. He was
talking about how they.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
I know, I know, but they hooked you up? Go ahead,
yeh yeah, well they hooked me up. They hooked my
guy up. So I'm a cry when I get to that.

Speaker 3 (56:24):
Yeah, I don't talk about it. But again, coach bad Turnou.
Everybody has to know we're going to be releasing the rosters.
I know everybody's been hit me up. I had to
make a couple we had to make a couple of
final adjustments, but the roster will be released today. A
lot of stuff is happening behind the scenes. This is
going to be a wonderful All Star Game. The game
will take place on the thirteenth, that's right April thirteenth,

(56:47):
that's a Sunday, and we're gonna be overrated Movoile High School.
We're going to be returning big shout out to my
guy Mizo's Chicken Wings. He's going to be coming out
there selling some of his world famous chicken wings with
the world famous sauce that he has. And we're really
happy about that because not only is he going to
come out there and serve to good people, but he's
also going to be donating money back to the IVY Classics.

Speaker 1 (57:08):
So that's all good. So yeah, that's good stuff.

Speaker 8 (57:11):
Man.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
At the round of thirty two, is you talk about
some great competition?

Speaker 4 (57:16):
Man, I'm watching it tonight day.

Speaker 1 (57:18):
And I love it. This is honestly, this is the
time I get excited about college basketball. McNee State beat Clemson.
McNeice was a twelfth rank. Clemson was a fifth rank.
That's probably those are some of the biggest ones you
can you can see Arkansas and we just talked about this.
Arkansas beat Kansas. Wow, they beat them seventy nine seventy two.

(57:38):
Arkansas was a tenth rank. Kansas was seventh rank and
they talked about that, ye like speaking of Gottlie saying that,
