Speaker 6 (02:19):
Gentlemen, it's all yours.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
This is Coach Being Eternal on Fox Sports Radio heard
in Southern California, Fox Sports Am thirteen fifty.

Speaker 6 (02:26):
I am your host, Coach B.

Speaker 8 (02:27):
And I am your host Eternal, right here live in
the great city of Riverside at the iHeartRadio Studios here
live every Saturday morning. And again you know you can
take us with you on the iHeart Radio app here
on a great Saturday morning. As we are the last,
the final Saturday morning of March, Coach B looks like,

(02:51):
you know, and from what I hear from the weather folks,
we're going to be going into.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
The hotter time, you know, and all the cold the.

Speaker 8 (03:03):
Cold evenings are just about done for us, man, So
I hope you're ready for the transition, brother.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
Absolutely, It's always good to get into that summertime. I
like it most because now the wife can can stop
complaining about the shorter days and the sun not being
up and all those things that she loves to get
upset about. So it's, uh, she may be listening, so
I have to watch that. But she loves to complain
about she hates. And I know we've been together almost

(03:29):
thirty years, so I know I know how much you
hate the winter.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
So I'm excited, you know, some warmer weather. It's time
for that excitement, so you know, summer break and you
know this. This is you know, one of the things
that the wife and I talked about because I will
be the Big five oh this year, and we talked
about some bucket list things and what we want to do.
And I'm surprised we actually got a tax return this year.
I was like, all right, it's been a while because
you know, we can't claim the kids anymore. But it's

(03:56):
only even if it's only two or three days. One
of my one of my greatest bucket list. Well, if
anyone knows me, my goal. People want to go to
these exotic countries, and this time my goal is to
go to all fifty. I want to go to all
fifty states. So this year, the wife and I have
talked about it going to Hawaii celebrate the fiftieth, my
fiftieth birthday. So I think we're going to do it.

(04:17):
I think we're going to choo talking about and we
can do a party this. I was like, I don't
want to entertain people. I mean, if this is my
fifth I want to do what I want to do.
If you want to have a party, like we're twelve, okay,
but I want to go and do something. So hopefully,
if everything lines up correctly, that might be something we're
going to be doing. So I hope we can make
that happen. But it is expensive over there. Oh yeah,

(04:39):
everything's expensive. They are waiting for you as soon as
you get there. Make sure you have your wallet out.

Speaker 8 (04:44):
And yeah, but I've heard nothing the great things about
the great state of Hawaii. And i've again me as well,
I have never been there, just you know, seeing the
pictures and I know a lot of people who are
down there, and uh, I know folks are still you know,
they're still recovering from those fires there as well.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Yeah, and then speaking of that prayers to I think
it was a Malaysia where they had that earthquake, and I.

Speaker 8 (05:10):
Just saw that it was like even spread over to
Bangkok as well. Man, So you know, it was a
devastating They said it flattened it's something like a number
of skyscrapers.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
So yeah, I saw one was falling.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (05:23):
Yeah, prayers to those people. Yeah, no question about it.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Man.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
And then speaking of that, you know, PRIs juice.

Speaker 8 (05:29):
We were just going to say that, yeah, yeah, we
we have we we saw that. Really, you know, a
devastating thing because you know, usc uh number one in
their in their in their bracket. They didn't get a
chance to take the Big ten actually after they lost
to u c l A.

Speaker 6 (05:46):
So hard to hear.

Speaker 8 (05:47):
Yeah, it's just so hard. Yeah, they they failed to
u c l A after a third time.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
That's hard to hear.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Oh yeah, I know, I know, I know, I knew
what you were struggling with.

Speaker 8 (05:56):
I know what you were struggling with, man, because I
know we used to pack pack everything packed ten Pac twelve,
but now Big ten. But yeah, as we were saying,
Juju fell against Mississippi State, and you know, there was
a lot of a lot of the fans were really
upset about a lot of sports cast a lot of
sports uh enthusiasts had a lot to say it.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
You know, it didn't look like it was that malicious.

Speaker 8 (06:20):
It looked like it was a physical play that that
you know that unfortunately you know, you know those kind
of injuries. It didn't like it wasn't like somebody got
pushed down or anything like that. It was it was
definitely a little excessive, I would say, but nonetheless, you know,
juju fail and and and unfortunately that a cl M
c L what they said.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
I think they said it was an a C L
c L.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
And you know the funny you know, uh, you know
Brian the second you know, he doesn't talk, but I
was in the room and he comes in there.

Speaker 6 (06:46):
They said, she med have toy. You know, you know
he's a lot emotional.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
But uh but you know, if you remind me. When
I saw the play, it reminded me of that year
the Kawhi was in the playoffs and I think it
was against Denver.

Speaker 8 (06:59):
There was no no, it was against uh oh god,
it was against Utah because it was Joe Angele. I
remember it like it was yesterday. Joe Angle was a
little and they were mad about that. That's a grass
great analogy right there.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
And that's when I saw it, and you know, and
it's like years ago, and I remember, I mean, this
is I'm gonna date myself now. But I remember when
I was a kid watching Bo Jackson and I was
watching that game when Bow tore up his hip.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
Then I saw him on the sidelines with his kids.
I was like, what is he doing? Was he in
the game?

Speaker 5 (07:25):
And it just so it doesn't look like anything that
you or I, but those things can really really hurt
a person.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yeah it could.

Speaker 8 (07:31):
Well when you look at it, when they slow it down,
you can see that his hip he felt because remember
he got dragged down and he kind of fell was
he was running.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
He said he popped his bone out of his hip
and then it went back in.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (07:47):
Yeah, so he knew, he knew what he was like,
Oh my, I mean I wouldn't even know why what's
that fifth? But you know, I mean you know that's
that's Bow. But yeah, that was it. That was one
one shot, one kill right there. So but yeah, but nonetheless,
we were talking about with with Juju usc women's basketball. Uh,
you know, so she's gonna be obviously out for some

(08:07):
time with it, you know, working a way back from
that injury. But while we're talking about that, because Kennedy Smith,
who is a atwandah alum, yes, two time state champion
not one, not too and a national champion from uh
Edlwanda High School. She is a freshman over there, and

(08:30):
in that game against Mississippi State, her and the transfer
from Stanford, Kiki, uh, Kiki, are.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
You with me?

Speaker 8 (08:38):
I know that we know we're not really talking about
that cat too much, but I know you know as
long as what it is. But uh but yeah, but nonetheless,
Kiki uh and and and our girl Kennedy had to
really step their game up in Juju's absence, and they
won big. It was a very emotional game, little a
little little bit of pushing and shoven at the end

(08:58):
during the handshake line.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
But but now.

Speaker 8 (09:02):
The Trojans Coach b are really really they're gonna have
to see what they can do they play tonight. I
was just I was, you know, one of our special
guests here in the house is none other than the
three time coach B California state champion stand coach Stan
du Lou's right here.

Speaker 6 (09:20):
A lot he had time for us, He had time,
he had time today. He had time.

Speaker 8 (09:23):
He had time, you know, because I mean he highly
sought after. He's all over the place.

Speaker 9 (09:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (09:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
One of the I'll never forget the time we were
trying to get him to do the All Star Game.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
He's like, you know what, the National Game called me?

Speaker 8 (09:35):
All right, Well, I think one of the funniest times
was when he came and he said, hey, I'll coach
the team, but I got five All Stars.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I don't remember that one.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
That was a year that they wore their own jersey. Yes, yes,
I do.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
You remember everybody they walked in the gym. It was
like everybody here.

Speaker 6 (09:53):
Yes, yes.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
And you know, we got to give him that. Him
doing that gave that game instant.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
Credibility, and we've built off of that since.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
That's true words right there.

Speaker 8 (10:03):
So uh but yeah, so we were so uh coach Stan,
we were talking about that and and uh, you know,
you know, with a girl like Kennedy, who's you know again,
who's used to really be in the focal point of
a team, she's now in a very supporting role, you know,
obviously being there Juju's you know, the primary offensive shot taker.

(10:25):
And then so so again, you know a lot of
folks would think of that, you know, with Juju being out,
whether they're going to be a do But as you
as you stayed it, really big time went over Mississippi State.
They knocked off Mississippi State ninety six to fifty nine.
Coach b I mean put, I mean woodshed. But now
they're going to be playing Kansas day tonight and that
game is going to take place at five pm. Coach

(10:47):
stands that, you know, because I was like, Hey, are
you going to go to the game. He looked at
me kind of crazy that the game is in Washington.
I was like, oh, yeah, my bad. So but yeah,
it's gonna be a great game. Sweet six sweet sixteen.
Now if they win, they'll have a matchup against either
Iowa who beat them earlier in the season, either Iowa

(11:08):
or Oklahoma. Uh so, a lot of good basketball taking place.
And then obviously U C. L A will be competing
I think either today or tomorrow. Let me see play
already they played already, so they're gonna play. Uh they
got they got LSU coming up, big game right there.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
So it's every all these games a big time game.

Speaker 8 (11:31):
Now you got not don go, you know, and then
if they we know, so yeah, so so great stuff.
But but we're really excited about that because again to
our point, Juju going down obviously, you know we're sending
out our prayers to to Juju getting.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
A speedy recovery.

Speaker 8 (11:46):
Yes, but you're gonna get a chance to see some
of these other players who you haven't seen on there
because again US he is a stacked team. Yes, Juju
gets the fan bear, but you had again Kiki almost
had forty against Mississippi State, and then obviously you have
young Candy Smith who's a two time in California state
champion and a national champion as well. So it's going
to be interesting to see what us he can do

(12:06):
in Juju's absence.

Speaker 5 (12:08):
And one thing that I love, you know, my my
mother and father are born and raised in Mississippi, and
I love it when a Southern California team can send
them home with it.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
Now, I appreciate that. It's it's it's good bragging rights,
you know when you think about getting back home so.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Well, you know I'm pulling.

Speaker 8 (12:24):
I mean because the last time us He has been
this relevant and girl and women's basketball excuse me, is
when Sheryl I think, you know, around the time we
Lisa Leslie.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Okay, okay, okay, hold on, hold.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
I know something about us.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
You know you do?

Speaker 8 (12:46):
You do?

Speaker 1 (12:46):
You a USC guy? My bad?

Speaker 8 (12:47):
I messed up on that, but you're right about that.
Forgot was that we had we had Lisa.

Speaker 10 (12:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
And one thing I love about it, you know, it's
it's off off subject, But I remember one time my
daughter was younger, she was maybe like fourteen fifteen. Now
she's she's gonna be twenty five this year, and USC
had it. You know, it was the dog days of
USC women's basketball. They didn't have much going on, and
they had Daddy Daughter Day and I was able to
take my daughter to a USC game.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
And you see on the wall how many national changes.
It was at the Galen Center.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
I mean everywhere they had a picture of Cheryl. She
had the curl, you know. So I told my daughter,
I said, that's the greatest USC player ever. But this
is before you know, this new team show.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
Yeah. So now they're gonna they're gonna give them a ray,
you know.

Speaker 8 (13:29):
Yeah, I'm telling you, man, USC, I mean they are
on the map again. I'm I was excited when they
had Juju out there, just you know, just because they
were just a really special team. But again, seeing young
Kennedy Smith, how you and I we've had we've had
discussion about you know, about that throughout the course of
the year. But now getting a chance to see her,

(13:49):
you know, front and center. Now she was starting already,
but she was again she was a role player, but
now she's gonna get a chance to really be part
of the focals.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yes, be a focal point.

Speaker 8 (13:55):
So again five o'clock tonight, I'm gonna be right there
watching it. Can't I can't wait. And then again we
have it. There's another local young lady plays on U
C l A. And they'll be playing on the thirtieth,
I believe. So that's going to be Monday. If I'm
not no, that month's Sunday, because the day of the
twenty ninth, that's Sunday. My day's a little toe up,
So that Sunday they'll be playing. So everything is real now, man,

(14:17):
there's no days off. Everything is a real deal, man.
So we're really excited about it. Some other quick news
before we get there, cause we again we do have
very special guests here live in the studio. As I
mentioned to we have Eduwanda girls basketball right here, the
California State champions. A lot of folks said they weren't
gonna be able to do it, but let me tell
you something, they did it. But as we're talking about USC,

(14:40):
coach B the coach out there, Lincoln Riley, who I
know you you kind of have some I know. But
one of the things they were talking about was the
quarterback that I've been telling you about, Hassan long Street.
You know, he's out there already, he's already out there

(15:01):
at USC, and they're talking about he has coming along
faster than they anticipated. So you might see Hassan long
Street starting next year for USC, and that that kid
he could be. He could be one of those guys.
Coach B it was one of the top quarterbacks in
all of college football next year.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
I don't think they have anyone else. So that's good,
good news. Yeah, good news. So yeah, yeah, yeah, So
we'll get a chance to see what that's all about.
We've got a chance to see him up front. So
it's gonna be good stuff. So at any rate, yes,
So when we come back, we're gonna have We're really
happy about this man. We're gonna have very special guests,
right here. We've covered their media day for the last
three years, and guess what they did on each of
those three years Coach By.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Won state champions.

Speaker 8 (15:41):
We don't want to put the toughest state in the Union,
come on now, we don't want to put it out
there that that is all due to this magnificent energy
to coach be on myself have And we're still the
verdict is still out.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Who had the best media day intro?

Speaker 8 (15:54):
We're gonna We're gonna have to ask Coach Stan when
he gets here, who had the who did the best
media day intro? Coach B's was was highly sought. Everybody
was talking about here. But we're gonna see. So we're
gonna take a quick break and when we come back,
we will be right here with the three times California
state champions at Alwana Eagles right here live. So I
am your We're gonna go ahead, take a quick break.

(16:14):
I am your host, eternal right, I am your host.

Each of those three years, something special happened at the
conclusion of those three years. And you know, I don't

(21:01):
I don't really know what to attribute that to. I'm
not gonna say that we just that energy that we
we brought in November.

groundwork that was there the first year.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
I mean, we just laid the groundwork, the foundation and
Coach Standing not put together a blue front.

Speaker 6 (21:18):
And this is how you find This is what you
follow right here.

Speaker 8 (21:23):
And Coach Stand gave me some He gave me some
some heath the second he said, man, you gotta follow up.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
He said, Coach Bees is good now. But now I
don't know my face, my voice.

Speaker 8 (21:31):
I don't know if I want to do it anymore, right,
but Coach Stand, I mean, uh, I talked to you
a little bit off air man that talk about this
spectacular run, Lionel Richie said, not once, not twice, but.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
Three times, a lady, so talk about.

Speaker 8 (21:46):
This historic monumental run that you guys, your your team,
your coaching staff, the admin.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
You guys got a chance to run this year.

Speaker 8 (21:54):
And I know this year was was was a difficult
year in terms of just you know that there was
a lot of stuff going on, but just kind of
talk to artists about about this year, how it was.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
It was.

Speaker 15 (22:04):
I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 16 (22:05):
From Augusta on the way on, it was a you know,
pretty tough, enduring season. But the one thing that I
give us a lot of credits then I told the
girls all year, they're resilient. Our staff is resilient, our administration.
It was a collective unit that put this stretch together.

(22:29):
But yeah, it started off very tough health wise, personal wise,
with things going on.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
But.

Speaker 15 (22:38):
We stayed focused.

Speaker 16 (22:40):
We put again the plan and even during the beginning
of the season when we had some early struggles. Coaching
for twenty five years, you don't allow certain moments to
affect the greater good. And I think we put a
plan together and you know, with staff and the girls
who you know who really just tried every day to

(23:01):
get a little bit better. We never we never stayed
off the focus of being a better team and trying
to make things count. When it when when it was
time to So when we got to throughout the year,
at the beginning of the year, when we were struggling,
we just kept a focus of Okay, we're just gonna
make adjustments and see where it goes. And uh, towards

(23:25):
the middle of the year, we can start to see
that thing. Things were really starting to step up for us.
Changing personnel, changing positions and switching some things up. They
put ourselves in a situation to where we start to
see that, hey, we are that team that we thought
from the beginning.

Speaker 15 (23:41):
Of the year.

Speaker 8 (23:41):
That's good stuff right there in the game right here
live Fox Sports Radio here with coach Stan dalou Edwan
the girls basketball three times, three time California state champion. Now, no, no,
this is the thing. You're you're having this success. You
guys are coming off of a national championship run. And
then right down the street you have Ontario Chris and
they're you know, they're coming in this year with a

(24:01):
lot of fanfare.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
But again, you know, young talented group.

Speaker 8 (24:07):
Talk about that, like, now, you the competition generally the
competition is like outside the state or something, well, you know,
like see Erra Kenya and somebody like that. But now
the competition is like right there, right around the corner,
and again, you guys, two of the best teams in
the nation right right there.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
How was that like fueling the fire? How was that
whole situation going for you?

Speaker 15 (24:25):
I wouldn't say it was just fulling the fire.

Speaker 16 (24:27):
Again, we there was you know, a couple of kids
that you know was in our program. But you know,
for us, to be honest with you, we've always had to,
you know, put our separate ourselves from the private schools,
and so adding another one and just happened to be
in our backyard. It just it was just to us

(24:50):
another situation, yeah, because at the end of the day,
we have to get better to compete, and knowing that,
you know, you have to compete against a team that's
in your backyard, it just put us in a situation
where we just said, you know what we have to.

Speaker 15 (25:06):
We have to tighten up.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
That's good.

Speaker 16 (25:08):
If we don't get better ourselves, it doesn't matter what
area you come from. But it was, you know, a
bittersweet to know that, in playing them three times this year,
that it's gonna come from the ie.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (25:22):
Right, that's the one thing that we know it's coming
from the IE this year. Yeah, and so we had
to put ourselves in a situation that, hey, prepare yourselves
to battle all the time, and you know, see where
it goes.

Speaker 6 (25:34):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
Once again, we have coach standing at Awanda women's basketball
here on Fox Sports thirteen fifty. Coach, talk to me
a little bit about that the growth you've you've been
at this, but what about nine ten years at Edawanda
now and to see you were the first team that
in the IE to be in the Open Division and now,
like we said, we have Ontario Christian. Talk a little

(25:56):
bit about that. And you have teams out here like
Marino Valley. The level of talent out here for for
women's basketball, it's just great. How do you feel about
the growth of basketball out here.

Speaker 16 (26:06):
Yeah, no, it's it's it's been like that for you
know a long time. Edewana has been good for you know,
fat twenty five years, then you had your you know,
your cahone years at Eisenhower years, you're seeing coronas and
ten new years, you know. So there's always been a
lot of talent in the Inland Empire and so and
it's going to continue to be like that.

Speaker 14 (26:26):
It is like that.

Speaker 16 (26:27):
Now, the one thing that you have to do, you
have to you have to develop the craft of coaching, right.
You have to continue to you know, bring in UH,
you know, you know good like good coaches to help
you with the players and UH and develop development IQ

(26:47):
the ability to play at the level. And you have
to give them that confidence that they can play at
the level because again we have been in the Open
Division every year with different teams. But you have to
you have to help manufactured that process for them. And
then you have to have good players who are at
your school and coming to a school that is.

Speaker 15 (27:09):
Free education right right in the area, you know what
I mean. And this is your school, this is your home.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
And Edewanda, all you guys do is produce talent. McLoughlin,
we talked about so many players that the funny thing
is my yes, Darren Collinson, my daughter and I were
talking about this because.

Speaker 6 (27:24):
She went to school with Alec Anderson. Now he's starting
for the Bills in football.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
But coach Anderson, his dad, does he ever look at
you and say, coach, I didn't expect you to do
all this.

Speaker 6 (27:34):
I mean when you when you took it over.

Speaker 16 (27:36):
I know, because you know, he for the first three
years when I was coaching junior college, he just kept
calling every year because I coached his daughters in clubball,
and so he was like, I need somebody to come
take over.

Speaker 15 (27:48):
And it took me a couple of years.

Speaker 16 (27:49):
When we finally did it, and we coached together, you know,
for one year, and I was starting to take over.
Then he he said, you're gonna You're gonna do some
special things here now. Of course, a couple of days
ago he called, he said wow, yeah, and.

Speaker 15 (28:09):
I said thank you.

Speaker 16 (28:10):
I always tell him thank you because he's still on
campus and so I always tell him, you know, I'm.

Speaker 6 (28:14):
Still riding the bike.

Speaker 17 (28:18):
Every day.

Speaker 6 (28:18):
I've known him, him, his Alex, and my daughter in
kindergarten together, so I've known him that long.

Speaker 16 (28:23):
So no, he's he's been extremely proud. He's been you know, uh,
he's been. He's not shocked, but he's just like amazing.
And I mean I have you know, I've even given
him rings because I still.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
As you, I look at your ring here that so
so blind with the bleak.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Yeah, to hit him with that right there.

Speaker 16 (28:49):
The players they did, they did us proud over these
last four years and uh, you know, they've they've provided
some some very special things for us in our program.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
In me, I love I love that one. We got
the wife and I bought the house, and No. Five
my kids went to East Heritage, Heritage in immediate and
ed one. So I three that went to Edwanda. So
Coach Anderson, thank you for bringing.

Speaker 6 (29:13):
To shine like no.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Doubt about it.

Speaker 8 (29:15):
Now, no real quick, We'll ask you one final question
and we'll get your player to come in and your
your assistant coach as well. But one of the things
we're coach being out, we were we were discussing off air,
is uh you I mean you have talent. There's a
there's a great deal of talent that you guys are produced.
You seeing come out of there some d one folks.
Kennedy Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm saying. But we were

(29:35):
talking about Kennedy Smith specifically, and you know, obviously right
now she's in the sweet sixteen right now, huge, big
big time game tonight obviously specifically with the absence of Juju.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
But just talk about you know how you from high
school he beat Juji. I'm just saying, I'm just saying,
I just I'm just saying, got there.

Speaker 18 (29:59):
But that's what that's what about the national champions That's
what he does right there, man to the chill, that's
the cheer factor, is all. But nonetheless, coach, like I
let you say, I mean, it's right, it's true. Right,
but nonetheless.

Speaker 8 (30:18):
But we're talking about that and talk about just what
you know, you know, how she's what she's able to
do in this particular season. I know it's been a
transition because she's more like a role. She kind of
plays a role more on the defensive end more so
than anything. Talk about that and you've got a chance
to talk with her about how I'm sure she has
going through a growth period this particular season in terms

(30:38):
of her role with USC women's basketball.

Speaker 15 (30:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (30:41):
We communicate throughout the season and especially recently over the
last week and I and actually attended a practice last
week as well, nice just to support her. Uh she
you know, it was a transition being able to produce
all over the floor over the last four years with
us and then more of a you know role catch

(31:04):
and shoot and then of course defending the best player
on every team. Yeah, uh so it was a little
different role for her and then you know, offensively, you know,
picking her spots to be all, you know, be offensive minded.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Uh.

Speaker 16 (31:19):
But with with this injury now, and I told her
a couple of days ago, you know, you got to
help your team. You're gonna have to give her a lot,
give them a lot more, and even show the world
that you have a lot more, you know, and and
and give them opportunity to win this sweet sixteen game
against Kansas State. So she she said, I'm ready. That's

(31:43):
the one thing I love about her confidence. She knows
she's like, I wasn't able to produce as much as
I would like to, but I'm definitely going to give
it my all.

Speaker 15 (31:51):
And you can see that.

Speaker 16 (31:53):
Unfortunately in the game that she got hurt, Yeah, Kennedy,
Kennedy stepped up a couple.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Of us big shots. Oh yeah, big time shot.

Speaker 16 (32:00):
So she knows that in order for them to win,
she's got to do her part. And I think she's
excited about that. And I'm looking forward to watching it
tonight myself.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
What a luxury for that man, because you know, all
foolishness aside.

Speaker 5 (32:14):
When when Edel Wanda played Seria Candy, it was Kennedy
the defense that she played one Juju. And what do
you think is the best part of her game, Because
I say it's the defensive.

Speaker 16 (32:22):
End, to be honest with you, yes, that's I mean,
that's a culture in our program. But I'll be honest
with you. The way she scored in all the years
and from you know, evolution of her game from you know,
five to ten post player to a six to one guard.
By her senior year, she was able to score on
all three levels on the floor, right, Yeah, you know

(32:44):
what I mean. I mean she could shoot you know,
mid post, you know, look to attack from the high
post and shoot off and catch off the dribble, shoot
off the dribble, right, take it to the basket from
the perimeter. She garners herself into an all around player,
and honestly, it is defensively, don't get me wrong, But
she can do so much more on the offensive end.

Speaker 15 (33:06):
Yeah, and I think she's gonna really show that very soon.

Speaker 5 (33:10):
Yes, I hate the way that she's getting the opportunity
because Juju had to go down, but she's ready to stay.

Speaker 14 (33:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (33:15):
Man, at that time, well, we've had we've had a
front row seat.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
So five pm to night, Uh we I got popcorn?

Speaker 15 (33:22):
Ready?

Speaker 8 (33:23):
You know, I got, I got my adult water. You know,
I'm gonna be ready. I'm gonna be ready to really
get there and really and take it there. I was
so I was bugging out so much. I thought the
game was local.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
You see what I was saying. But anyway, but none
the less, but.

Speaker 8 (33:37):
Again again, coach Stan, we really appreciated congratulations. We're gonna
when we we're gonna take a quick break when we're
gonna come back, we're gonna get a chance to talk
to one of your players and then one of your
uh your coaching assistants as well.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Man. But again, man, we we just really commend you.

Speaker 8 (33:50):
You you you've done a great job for so long
and we were happy this to be supporters of the program.
And uh again you just see I mean, you know,
you got the young lady over at at Long Beach State,
you got you know, you got uh uh you know
sale over there at Howard every young ladies that are
doing some great stuff. You know, they always highlight their

(34:10):
kids on social media always. I love this, even like
the players that were there before you were there.

Speaker 15 (34:15):
Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
I like that.

Speaker 15 (34:17):
We do.

Speaker 16 (34:17):
We try to do a good job with that. Currently
sixteen players in our program is in playing in college.

Speaker 15 (34:24):
Nice and then in my nine year, ten year over
over forty five.

Speaker 6 (34:29):
Wow, free education. I love that.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
That's extremely cool.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
Right, and then he's state champion, not one now one,
come on, but three times.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Okay, no doubt about it.

Speaker 8 (34:43):

There goes right there, so so help us out us, Okay,
because I don't I don't have my my calculator out.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
But that means you graduate. You're you're a sophomore.

Speaker 6 (39:38):
Then right now?

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Yeah there it goes right there. Okay, cool. So so
you're a part of the sophomore class coach Stan talked
about during media day. Now, what a this is a
great run right here. Now. Have you did you go
to Edwanda last year?

Speaker 17 (39:50):
Yes, but I transferred from modern day.

Speaker 8 (39:51):
Huh okay okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. So so you
and miss Brewed we're at school together?

Speaker 12 (39:56):
Then?

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Correct?

Speaker 17 (39:56):
No, she came to year before me.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Okay, So I'm gonna get it right, I'm we're gonna
figure it out. Now.

Speaker 8 (40:03):
This this year right here was a special year for
uh the Edelwanda Eagles. But for you coming in, how
was it.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
For you personally?

Speaker 8 (40:12):
I mean, you guys, it was a historic run for
the school, for the program, But how was it for
you personally?

Speaker 9 (40:18):
I feel like it was a great experience honestly, just
coming like in together, like knowing that I had to
like run my position, like playing with my teammates and
trying to just at least know that I had to
play my role.

Speaker 8 (40:32):
Yeah yeah, Now, now was there a game because you
guys played some big time games this this I mean
some huge y'all traveled, you know, because you know, you
guys are coming off of a national championship run. But
was there a game for you this season that really
kind of like made this season?

Speaker 15 (40:48):
They do?

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Was like that was the game right there? You know?
It kind of like stands out to.

Speaker 17 (40:51):
You for this season Christian Game, the Center of the
c game.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Okay, that was a crazy game right there.

Speaker 6 (40:58):
It was loud, what the loud?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
And never as a player was alloud in never you yes.

Speaker 9 (41:02):
But also like when we played them at home, that
was the game.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
That was the one. Were you playing them at your house?

Speaker 6 (41:07):
No? Oh?

Speaker 1 (41:08):
At their house? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (41:09):
Yeah, that was that was crazy Gray Yeah yeah yeah,
but what was what was specially about the one at
the Toyota Center.

Speaker 9 (41:14):
No one that had to play my important stuff up
and guard specially k So that was the game that
I knew I had to step up and not like
try to be afraid of just going out there and
actually playing.

Speaker 8 (41:22):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Because she talented, obviously everybody
knows that. But you had to go out there and
do your thing, and you did well. I actually did
a phenomenal job of coach b.

Speaker 5 (41:30):
Now I'm taking a look. First of all, I got
to ask the question, you're you're got a little emotion.
I saw your number. What's the reason for the number
twenty four?

Speaker 1 (41:39):
Well, make sure you talk to put that microphone all day.
It's all good.

Speaker 17 (41:43):
My original number was eleven.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
Okay.

Speaker 17 (41:46):
Kennedy was the player that retired her number.

Speaker 9 (41:48):
But I was also like I needed a better number,
and I felt like it was a good number for
me because I worked hard, and I mean it was
a good dc coming in knowing that Kobe had that
number and like like returning your legacy.

Speaker 6 (41:58):
So I was going to say correct answer. Yeah, I
was hoping you would say yes.

Speaker 5 (42:05):
And then eleven is a sacred number because that was
Jordan's number, Kennedy's number. So it's something about that number
eleven there at at Awanda. So if they if you
had a number eleven coming in, we know you're gonna
be legit, legit. So but tell me a little bit
about that. I'm looking at some of the clips when
you guys you went into it and you guys failed
to Ontario Christian twice, but to go into their house
and beat them, and I saw.

Speaker 6 (42:26):
You guys talking to the stands.

Speaker 5 (42:28):
How satisfying was that for you to go there and
beat them in their house. Now, no bulletin board material
because it'll be back next year. But tell me a
little bit about that that that experience.

Speaker 9 (42:36):
Well, it was really honestly like just going in knowing
that we had to step up because we lost them twice.
So coming back and knowing that we weren't going to
lose them third time, to play harder and place more
and actually like play as a team, not just going
in and trying to play one on one ball and
you know, going together knowing that oh yeah, like we're
going to show each other ball and get like our
teammates involved to know that. Yeah, like trusting each other
and we'll get our good opportunities.

Speaker 5 (42:57):
And that's got to be experience for you coming in
as a sophomore and playing at that level of basketball
and excelling. Uh how what was that experience like for
you to play the best some of the best talent
in the country. I mean you played on Terror, Christian
arch Minty. What was that like to play that schedule?

Speaker 9 (43:12):
It was tough, but I had to play my part
and I feel like I did good just going in
and like playing defense was really like I'm good at.
So like stepping up, playing like one of the best
players and actually walking them down.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
So that Yeah, that's good stuff.

Speaker 8 (43:26):
Now here, yeah, now now, now now again, Fox Sports Badia,
We're right here live with Edlwanda Eagles girls basketball not one,
not two, but three times California state champions so it's
a beautiful thing. Now now as you as you know,
obviously Kennedy Smith was there before you. Now do you
get a chance to watch any any of her games
at all? And if you do, what do you think about,
you know, again, getting the chance to see her play

(43:48):
and see her door thing, knowing that that was somebody
that was right there, same court, same place with where
you know where you are currently.

Speaker 9 (43:54):
Yes, I watched a lot of the games actually, and
I'm the one that played gainst Michigan.

Speaker 17 (43:58):
I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
When did you gut her Mississippi SI? Yeah?

Speaker 17 (44:01):
Yeah, she's a well player.

Speaker 9 (44:04):
She plays really good defense, and I feel like some
like I can like piggyback on her game because I
play defense as well. She's like a big factor on
defense and she guards a lot of the top players,
so I feel like I can.

Speaker 17 (44:14):
Pick it back off that too. And she's also really
good on offense.

Speaker 9 (44:16):
You know, she's still getting her game, and like I'm
getting into the flow of like playing with her teammates.

Speaker 17 (44:20):
But she's been doing good.

Speaker 1 (44:22):
That's good stuff right there.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
She's coming in the perfect time of women's basketball. You
got Caitlyn, you got Juju. What's our girl name that
went to l s u uh Oh, I can't even
think of her name. Her brothers, her brothers at Maryland.

Speaker 6 (44:33):
Oh, yes, yes, I can't even think of her name
right now. Yeah, that's it. Angel. I mean, this is
a great time for women's basket.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (44:41):
In my life, I've never seen it's this exciting. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (44:43):
Do you do you have a favorite women's basketball player? Okay, yeah, yeah,
that's the difference.

Speaker 5 (44:50):
Because we've been doing the show for ten years and
we would ask young ladies who their favorite players. They
would always take, and now for women identify the women.
I think that's great for the game.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
I think so too.

Speaker 8 (44:59):
That's good stuff. Well, young lady again, best of luck
to you. Keep on doing your thing. You're you're a
state champion now, so when you know, I would let
me tell you something. It would be tough for me
to go to school on Monday if I was a
state champion. I mean, I'll be waiting there like y'all
gonna have to pick me up and take me the
first period.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 8 (45:17):
Because you know, because the weight is heavy. I'll tell
them now, I'm like the weight that's heavy right there now,
real quick, I'm just going to ask you. This will
be our last question. Now, girl, y'all play physical. Y'all
play probably a little bit more physical than the boys do.
I mean a lot of people, a lot of folks
don't know y'all go to a girls game. It's physical
out there, tippy, it's a little talking going on. But
I mean, but now that you guys are the state champions,

(45:38):
like kind of settle a lot of stuff that was
going on before.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
How does that feel?

Speaker 9 (45:42):
Yes, because we came into the season on four, so
we like bounce back comingto practice actually like getting used
to our players because before we didn't have like as.

Speaker 17 (45:49):
Good as chemistry, right, true true players. So we came
in practice like focus.

Speaker 9 (45:53):
Now we got better going on to the season and
actually like understanding our players, like we use our strengths
together than knowing like what this person can do on
the floor and actually just pick it back and like
together as a team. So that's like as like the
season went on, when we like knew that what we
wanted to do, it was actually good.

Speaker 5 (46:09):
But well, young you got a bright future. I gotta
make a disclaimer. They're one four, it's against some of
the best teams.

Speaker 6 (46:15):
Yeah, I know. Yeah, the teams in the Yeah, I know,
because you know parking wreck m v P.

Speaker 8 (46:24):
You know what I mean, that's a different level of
m v P right there, you know when you parking
rec I mean, ain'ts bandaged m v P right there,
you know.

Speaker 6 (46:30):
But nonetheless they're different. I just want people to know
that it is right there.

Speaker 8 (46:34):
So look real quick, we're gonna we're gonna bring We're
gonna bring your assistant coach in and the just second,
but a young keep up the good work.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
We'll keep eye on you.

Speaker 8 (46:40):
Keep you, I mean, take that ring with you wherever
you go, tied to put on your shoe strings and
that way when they look down, then blind them or
something like that. But keep up the good work where
we're pulling for you. Okay, there it is right there.

Speaker 20 (51:22):
Gary Clark, assistant coach Edwanda Girls Basketball.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
That's good stuff. Now. I always see you out there,
man like you. You are, you are one.

Speaker 8 (51:31):
You are probably one of the more emotionally invested folks
out there next to Coach Stands that I see out there.
I mean, you got the camera in one hand and
you are cheering, you are going at it. How has
it been watching these young ladies again working with Coach
stand Tell us how this year has been for you personally?

Speaker 15 (51:47):
Well?

Speaker 1 (51:47):
How long you been with the program? Let me ask
you that first.

Speaker 20 (51:49):
Well, my involvement with the program it days back. I've
been to ed Alwanda. I was raised at Wanda Basketball.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
Okay.

Speaker 20 (51:57):
I started going to games in nineteen ninety six.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Oh okay, so you deep, deep, deep deep.

Speaker 20 (52:02):
So I attended Edwanda from ninety nine to two thousand
and two. I played boys basketball, started coaching boys of basketball.
Always been a fan of the girls basketball program. Coach Siler,
Coach Anderson Nice, coach Stan.

Speaker 1 (52:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 20 (52:20):
When coach stand came, I just saw his passion. I
saw how invested he was and the girls. Yeah, and
it just really attracted me to attending all the games.
Last year, I was courtside for CIF Inn State. Actually
I didn't go to State CIF And then it's funny
because I saw it pop up on my phone, you know,

(52:41):
you get the reminders.

Speaker 6 (52:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there was.

Speaker 20 (52:45):
A picture of me courtside for the championship game.

Speaker 6 (52:47):
Nice.

Speaker 20 (52:48):
And then I was preparing it to coach in the
championship game. So that was full circle for me.

Speaker 1 (52:53):
That's nice, that's good stuff right here. Now for you,
I'll ask you the same question. This year. It was
a really in one of those interesting years. Again, you
know all that talent.

Speaker 8 (53:04):
Obviously when anytime you know somebody like Kenny Smith is
no longer on the team, you know that there's such
a huge part of that program.

Speaker 1 (53:10):
There's a wonder like like who go whos gonna step
up now?

Speaker 8 (53:13):
But what did you see in the summertime with what
was in that summertime but kind of in the winter, no,
you know, October November, where those young ladies are getting prepared,
you guys are getting prepared to kind of go for
another season. Did did you see that that championship running them?

Speaker 20 (53:27):
Well, definitely I saw a collection of talent that I
felt could win and compete against anyone.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
One.

Speaker 20 (53:35):
Thing you got to understand is we didn't get Chastity
to like the end of December.

Speaker 6 (53:38):
Wow.

Speaker 20 (53:39):
Now, if Chastity plays a whole year, I think our
start and just our team chemistry and being able to
play with each other and learn each other, I think
it would have been a much quicker learning curve. But
I always felt like we had a team that could compete.

Speaker 6 (53:53):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (53:54):
And you, so you're at a one to alumnius. What
do you think about collector or finally retiring and hanging
them up?

Speaker 6 (54:00):
You know what, I believe it when.

Speaker 20 (54:03):
Before I've been a rumor since I think a few
years after I graduated, was gonna move on because you
played for him, right, Yeah, for Click, and I coach
with Click, so I know him very well. He's like family.
So yeah, I, like I said, I believe it when I.

Speaker 6 (54:22):
See Yes, Yes, I love it.

Speaker 5 (54:24):
And you know you are an Edewanda ego. So is
it special for you to come back and coach at
your school? And and you know the kids are a
little bit different nowadays, but uh, is it special to
come back every day to your school?

Speaker 8 (54:37):
You know?

Speaker 16 (54:38):
It is.

Speaker 20 (54:39):
And like I said, I've always been on the boy side.
It's surreal and girls, and I never really imagine myself
being in position in coach girls. But when Coach Standing
extended the opportunity and I saw how he ran his program,
and it was just something there where I felt like,
you know, absolutely I.

Speaker 6 (54:58):
Wanted to do that.

Speaker 20 (54:59):
And and coaching girls a little bit different. They take
your heart oh yeah, you I've never been disinvested. I
never had my heart strings pulled like they were this
year just coaching the girls, and it was just eye opening.
And I can't compare this experience or anything.

Speaker 5 (55:21):
One thing we love to talk about when we talk
to coaches have coached both sides, A lot of times
they say the girls are more fundamentally sound because they
don't depend on the athletic exploits.

Speaker 6 (55:29):
What are the differences, to.

Speaker 20 (55:32):
Be honest with you, outside of dunking, Yes, the girls
are athletic. They're fast, they're quick, they have handles, they
could shoot. I think girls are better shooters than boys. Actually, yeah,
So from a fundamental aspect, I would say girls can
be more fundamentally sounded in certain areas, But from an

(55:53):
athletic standpoint. Understand, athleticism is more than just jumping right
right right.

Speaker 6 (55:59):
That's how I usuld tell my I can't do a coach,
I can't promise.

Speaker 20 (56:06):
I look at things like, okay, what is your lateral movement?
How do you move with the ball? And girls are
extremely athletic. They don't take a step back from boys.
They're extremely athletic.

Speaker 1 (56:18):
Stuff.

Speaker 6 (56:19):
He's still on business on now.

Speaker 8 (56:20):
He He's still on both sides right there again Fox
Sports Radio. Uh, coach being eternal right here live with
ed Alwanda Eagles champions, California States Champion, California State champion.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Now this season, is there a game you got? You
guys went to Hawaii this year?

Speaker 6 (56:38):
Is that right?

Speaker 1 (56:38):
You guys went to Hawaii this year.

Speaker 9 (56:40):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (56:40):
But is there a game or or a special time
for you that kind of stood out during this course
of the season.

Speaker 20 (56:47):
Uh, let's see games that stood out?

Speaker 6 (56:49):
He's like so many, you know, so many.

Speaker 20 (56:52):
I think the first lost to Ontario Christian stands out
because it kind of got all of our collective attention. Yes, right,
you know the team that we need to become in
order to compete and win, and we weren't there yet.
All of our trips were team building moments. Yeah, there's
so many things that happened on those trips where we

(57:15):
were forced to come together and just I mean, it's
the team aspect is so much more than just what
you see on the court with basketball, team chemistry, relationships,
new coaching staff. We had to, you know, get to
know each other and figure out what's the best method
for us to work together. And you really developed that

(57:38):
when you travel.

Speaker 15 (57:39):
Oh yeah, one moment.

Speaker 20 (57:41):
That sticks out to me and I always tell Coach,
I wish it was on tape. We were playing Fairmont Prep.
At Fairmont Prep.

Speaker 1 (57:47):
Now, don't tell anybody where that's at the folks who
don't know Orange County.

Speaker 20 (57:51):
Yeah, and playing Fairmont Prep. And we had like a
lackluster first but Coach gave like a movie worthy halftime speed.

Speaker 1 (58:06):
Coach Carter, bring it up.

Speaker 20 (58:08):
I'll say, Coach, that was your best coaching moment, just
the way he was challenging the girls, and they came
out and had probably one of the best defensive quarters
I've ever seen.

Speaker 6 (58:19):
Wow, and it worked.

Speaker 20 (58:20):
We outscored him like thirty something to five in the
third quarter. Wow, And we scored like in the high
nineties and sixty seven sixty and we actually cleared the bench. Wow,
that moment right there, it's like, you know what, we
could be a dominant not just a good defensive team.
We will be a dominant defensive team. And I don't

(58:43):
think we look back in terms of our defensive effort
the rest of the year. So that moment sticks out
to me.

Speaker 1 (58:48):
That's good stuff right there.

Speaker 15 (58:49):
Man.

Speaker 8 (58:49):
Well again, man, we are so happy for you guys.
Phenomenal season. I mean I saw the you know, some
of the defense that was played. You know, you know,
as your one of your players was saying over at
the Toyota Center, you know that that was that because
you guys had to come back, you know, you had
to come back and fight and trying to crawl back
during that game. So so it's been a great season.

(59:10):
I again, just as a fan of basketball, it's been
great seeing it.

Speaker 6 (59:13):
Man.

Speaker 8 (59:13):
So you guys keep up the good work. It's great
to have you guys in the studio. Uh, you know,
matter of fact, we're gonna we're gonna being coach stand back.
But again, coach, thank you so much. We appreciate you know,
uh you're making this time for this Saturday morning. Man,
thank you, appreciate you guys. You guys do such a
good job with your radio show. So uh, it's good
to be here today.

Speaker 1 (59:31):
I appreciate its good stuff right there. Yeah, this stuff
we don't.

Speaker 8 (59:33):
We're gonna bring in Coach Staying real quick, the multi
talented uh a beat producer too. Yeah yeah, he stands
multi he's multi talented.

Speaker 15 (59:41):
Uh uh.

Speaker 1 (59:42):
But again for the folks that don't know. Again, as
we're saying, if you guys are near a.

Speaker 8 (59:47):
TV and you guys got if I got even if
y'all got to plug the the court inside to the
wall to the TV, watch the the USC game.

Speaker 6 (59:56):
I gotta watch it on my phone.

Speaker 15 (59:57):
Maw.

Speaker 6 (59:58):
For some of you doing a double.

Speaker 8 (59:59):
Day, white wife, oh you oh hey, yeah, we'll make
sure that phone is charged up, brother, because you want
your wife happily by saying, can you want to sleep
on the couch now?

Speaker 6 (01:00:07):
But she might be listening. So I'm excited. I can't wait.
It's going to be amazing to that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Now. Now, talk about this.

Speaker 8 (01:00:14):
I know you haven't got a chance to really take
a take a but talk about this summer how it's
gonna be for you. The program kind of like getting
this rebuild thing going on. You got you have to
McDonald's all Americans that are.

Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Going to be leaving.

Speaker 8 (01:00:27):
And I love the picture of it hoping the Big Max.
Oh yeah, man, I don't even eat Big Max and
I look good, you know. But I mean, but but
I tell you what talk about. You know, there's gonna
be another thing like, ah, man, the wind is not
gonna be able to do it again, and and and
you're gonna have to kind of show the stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
But what's that process is going to be, like, you know,
retooling for next year.

Speaker 15 (01:00:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:00:47):
So of course since winning the state championship, we we've
had you know, a couple of weeks off. To be
honest with you, right now, it's about making sure that
all the girls, including the seniors grades.

Speaker 6 (01:00:58):
Yeah, are chilling up.

Speaker 15 (01:00:59):
True.

Speaker 16 (01:01:00):
We'll get back in the gym a couple of times
a week during sixth period as we as the girls
are you know, playing with their club programs, so they're
going to be developing there as well, getting some different coaching.
But what I look forward to is when we start
up in May. At the end of May, you know,
we'll have you know, incoming freshman, yeah, and we'll start

(01:01:22):
to really cultivate what next year's team is going to
look like. Give a couple of weeks to prepare, and
then we'll go to Arizona for the national Section seven
event that we've we've won the last couple of years.
So the process right now, obviously you know their student athletes,
so we want to make sure that their you know,
academics is on point to get ready for you know,

(01:01:45):
being able to distribute their transcripts to colleges. Yes, and
then the colleges will come watch us in June while
they're watching them as well and during their club seasons,
and then you know, we'll we'll take time over the
next couple of months see where our returners are, continue
to help them develop and and while we add in

(01:02:06):
players from the summer, start to build that next year's team.
And I'm excited for that process, to be honest with you,
we you know, with Chass coming.

Speaker 8 (01:02:14):
Back, and I was just about to ask you what
your transition I mean talk about Chass like what you know,
how special she was for the chance as a sophomore too,
you know.

Speaker 16 (01:02:23):
Coach, which coach Gary said was right. A lot of
those early struggles wouldn't have probably happened if she played.
I mean she brings a tenacity, uh an ability to
play multiple positions at her size, just you know, similar
to Puff, just her shooting ability, her energy, her of

(01:02:44):
course what she does defensively.

Speaker 15 (01:02:46):
She is everything that we thought she would be.

Speaker 16 (01:02:51):
And I really look forward to the next couple of
years of her development where she's gonna go because she's
she's she's a lover of the game, passion in it,
and just always wants to get better.

Speaker 8 (01:03:03):
And it might be the spokesperson too, she got it.
Ye Like y'all need somebody to do a presser, that's her, right.

Speaker 17 (01:03:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:03:14):
Again, we still got two of the best guards and
sol Cassul. We're not going to count We're not going
to count ourselves out. And we got a lot of
really good pieces who played some significant minutes last year.

Speaker 15 (01:03:26):
So we're not nowhere near done. Yeah, but if everybody.

Speaker 16 (01:03:30):
Want to count us out, I'm fine with that too,
right you know, Coach, we were talking about this with
your player.

Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
I remember in ninety two when they had that special
USA women's basketball team and then they launched the w
NBA with Lobo and they had all the good players. Stanley,
Now you know, I've seen that your practices. Like don
Stanley's still one of my favorite women players ever. She
was a great point guard. Cheryl's probably one of my favorite.
I've seen her at your practice. Yeah, I mean you
got the best of the best coaches. That's got to

(01:03:59):
be crazy for you.

Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
Coach.

Speaker 5 (01:04:00):
They're coming to Edawanda in Rancho Kukumana to see your
team play. When you first started, did you think that
this was possible? I mean, do you ever sit back
and say, this is bigger than I thought?

Speaker 16 (01:04:12):
Not at first, but once you know, when my first
team in twenty sixteen, the talent that we had, and
when they started to trickle into our practices like it
was club, I said, oh wow, there could be something.
And then every year it went from five coaches to
ten coaches to and then over the last four or
five years we've had over fifty.

Speaker 15 (01:04:31):
It's been unreal and.

Speaker 16 (01:04:34):
It's a testament to all the girls and all the
hard work that they've put in because a lot of
people don't understand they you know, they put in a
lot of hours in on their own as well.

Speaker 6 (01:04:43):
Right, right trainers and individual talent.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
Yeah, yeah, so.

Speaker 16 (01:04:48):
Their their their skill is and what they display as
a team and what they do outside of the high school.

Speaker 15 (01:04:55):
With the club.

Speaker 16 (01:04:56):
They come back to the team and they see this collective,
you know, collective unit of players, and they said, we
definitely gotta check them out. And in this climate of
the portal now, to be able to have kids that
come from colleges that come to your game, come to
your practices and games, we had a lot in our
games over the last couple of years as well. It's

(01:05:18):
been pretty amazing to see and it's needed, especially this
climate with the transfer portal.

Speaker 8 (01:05:23):
Yes, yes, indeed, Man, Well again, Coach Doan, we appreciate you,
man again, keep up the good work, doing a phenomenal job.

still surreal.

group went through a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:05:52):

Speaker 15 (01:05:54):

Speaker 1 (01:05:56):

still here.

Speaker 15 (01:06:00):
We still got a lot of talent.

Speaker 16 (01:06:02):
You know, we lost a lot over the last couple
of years, but we have a lot still.

Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:06:06):
Right, and you know, even through through the the down times,
we still never said we're out of it. Yes, we
always kept it positive. We always made sure that they
understood it's just that's this this get better.

Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
