on the Atlanta Hawks. I've been doing the preseason games

up till now, but if you've looked over the last
couple of weeks and months, I've also done games from
twenty twenty three. I did the last eight games, broke
them down shot for shot, How did the other team
score on the Atlanta Hawks, so you can see it
for yourself and then make a determination on what some
of the problems were from twenty twenty three. All right,

so today I'm going to be going over the OKC game,
the last preseason game of the twenty twenty four year.
And as I get ready to set this up for everybody,

I'll give you a little bit of time to talk
about what you think about whatever Hawks related that you
want to. So let's see, okay, see okay, see I
actually put all of these episodes on the same page,
so I'm trying to find it now. It should be
the last one there is, Hawks versus okay. See, here
we go. Now. One thing I do want to remind
people is that there are certain things that are still

happening from the twenty twenty three season. And even though
I did say that the Boks would be at least
the sixth seed, there are things that worry me because
they have not been coached out of the team yet
and It really worries me because I don't see any
adjustments off the bench. And yes, some of the player

(06:17):
personnel moves could mitigate some of these things over time,
because we haven't seen the whole team together, you know,
playing four minutes and everything like that. Of course, but
it's a stretch if these things can't be stopped all together, okay,
and they really need for us, they need to be
stopped altogether. And we'll get into these well, I'll go

(06:39):
ahead and mention them now, so you know, I played
basketball and I will talk about this at the end
of the show. I'm gonna do a Sunday I've done
my Sunday Night basketball video. I just need to upload it.
But there are certain things that I always like to
talk about. Stopping a ball on a fast break, rotating
to an open man when they're open, blocking out on

(07:01):
this shots, contesting all shots, especially if they're threes, staying
with your assignments, stay with your man, communicating on defense, okay,
and then again getting back on defense aka stopping the
fast break, and overhealthing. All of these things are important

(07:23):
because in twenty twenty three, the Hawks gave up fourteen
or more threes. It's a repeating subject. I know, but
I'm gonna keep saying it until it stops. We gave
up fourteen or more threes last year. Every game. We
gave up fifty three or more points in the paint
most of the time, more every game. We were twenty
fifth in the NBA. That's not top ten. We were

twenty six in block shots last year. That means we
don't contest anything. That's at the bottom. We were twenty
eighth in fast break points. I raised my voice because
we lose games simply because of that. In the heat
game we get in the heat preseason game, we gave
up thirty six fast break points. Is that accept the
both to anybody? Okay, So those are things that need

(08:05):
to be hunkered down. We got we gotta that has
to be changed, all right. Now we go over the
breakdown those the game initially for ok see, we lose
the game one oh four to ninety nine. Okay, see,
only had thirty six points in the paint in this game.
So that was good. Okay, that's great. That's why the

game was close for one thing, right, But they had
sixteen second chance points, they had seventeen fast break points,
and they hit seventeen threes in this game. The top
guys for LKC And usually in my breakdowns, I usually
mentioned the top three scores on the OKC side the

(08:46):
top three scores on the Hawk side. So for the OKC,
Chat had fifteen and sixteen minutes, he shot five to
ten shooting on that. Uzamin had fifteen points off the bench,
and Isaiah Joe At in fifteen minutes had sixteen points
off the bench, six or ten shooting four to eight

(09:08):
from three. We lost one oh four to ninety nine.
I'm just saying now for the Hawks, we had forty
two points in the pain. We had fifteen second chance points,
but we only had four fast break points. So seventeen
fast break points for ok see four fast break points
for Atlanta. Does it really equal out? Does it? The

(09:30):
Hawks did hit sixteen threes, another reason why the game
was closed for the Hawks. Our top guys, obviously, Kobe
had a great night, thirty one points on twelve to
twenty six from the floor, seven to fourteen from three,
you had four assists he had to still he have
the block. And again I'm gonna say it right now
before I get to that end of the show. This
is another reason why Kobe should be our backup point guard.

(09:53):
We have one followed, we need to use him. Okay,
I'll talk about that later. Though, Dyson had thirteen points,
eight boards for assists, three steals for our third leading score.
Because a lot of people had nine points, I'm gonna
use oh because it was his first game. He had
nine points on four to seven shooting. He had four boards. Now,

(10:15):
since we did lose the game, why did we lose
the game? It was close? Right? Well, wasn't free throws?
We didn't miss a free throw in this game? Strange huh.
Turnovers were about even okay, see, did have more stills
in blocks. Oh. By the way, six four six six
two four four seven nine is the number to call
in if you want to talk about it or comment

in the comment section, please. We were even on boards
and assists. The fast break points come into play, okay again,
seventeen fast break points. Really, you know, the Hawk shot
twenty nine percent from three okay, see thirty eight percent,
So you do see a little bit of a difference
there in the percentage. We were even on boards and

assists for the most part. But again, those fast breakpoints,
aren't they preventable. I'm gonna show you why we keep
giving up fast break points. If you watch the Heat
preseason game that I showed you, it's disgusting. This isn't
as bad, but again it's the same stuff that over
and over again comes up that we don't do to

(11:20):
prevent fast breakpoints. Again, the Hawks have four, So why
can't we just give up ten on the other side
instead of seventeen or thirty six or twenty five, on
and on and on and on and on. All right,
and remember points in the paint. Pacers had sixty four

(11:41):
points in the paint. Philly had forty eight points in
the paint. Heat had sixty two points in the paint. Okay,
the Pacers game, they gave. We gave up seventeen threes
to the Pacers, but not seventeen for long. That's the
long thing. Pacers had thirteen threes, Philly had fourteen threes.

(12:03):
He had thirteen threes. We can we keep teams ten
threes or under because if we do that, we win
more games as well. If we gave up less threes,
less fast break points, for crying out loud, we would
win more games. Our win loss total would slip just
on that and again this is team type stuff. One

(12:24):
player can't allow seventeen threes. Well kind of they can,
because Bogie gave up those seven threes against Dallas Mavericks.
I showed you that game. But it's a team stat nonetheless,
all right, because it's just about rotating. Again, Explain to
me why you don't believe these things are team issues,

(12:46):
blocking out and giving up all the points in the paint,
or rotating and stopping second chance points right again, the
fast break points alone. Just stay with your man, overhelping,
stay with your man. I'm gonna show that again tonight
this morning. What time is it this afternoon as well?
All right, so let's get into the game. First quarter,

(13:07):
first shot. Now again, I'm gonna bring in coaching again
because I'm sayed a billion times we are not being
coached on defense. We are not getting no adjustments from
the bench. Okay, if your teammate makes it a round
of screen or through a screen, okay, you need to
stay with your man at that point because he's being guarded.

(13:27):
To continue to overhelp him follow the ball handler makes
no spense because all you had to do is switch,
call it out. It's all you had to do is switch,
switch everything if you got to, but don't leave a
man wide open. But we don't do that. Our whole
team is determined to follow a ball handler, no matter
what the circumstances. And that's not basketball, okay, it this isn't.

(13:51):
So when Check comes instead of screening for Wallace on
this play, you have Kobe and o'congo on Wallace, Check
runs to the rim and gets an easy layup. Okay,
and I'm putting I'm putting this down because this wasn't
even a real screen. He could uh okngrue double low
cultch it. Well he's not double low anymore. Well he's

still double low, just not the number anyway. He could
have backed off Chat and to disallow that all together
and just stayed with Check, but he didn't do that.
So watch this first shot, first quarter of the OKAC game,
if I can find it. I didn't have a queue
up here though, as.

except for Wallace. He just went to him as if

he got he got to stop Wallace. No, that ain't basketball.
And all of our bigs did that last year, Bruno,
Oh and Clint religiously. No matter what happened, they always
went to the ball handle. And we got to stop
that minute and again me, I'm staying with my man,
or we're doing a legit switch. We're not gonna leave

a guy open. And here's the thing about the switch.
If you switch and the switcher happens to be a
smaller guy than the big guess what if they don't
take it immediately. The immediate advantage of that we can
switch back, We can double. We don't just let stuff happen.
So that's not what teams are supposed to be. You're
supposed to be a team, right, So anyway, that's the

first shot, two points, second shot again, assignments. Let me
pull it up real quick. So you don't forget these things.
Where is it that over helping? Stay with your assignment? Okay,
So if something happens when you're not on your man

(16:28):
for whatever reason, you have to call it out. Hey
pick up my man. It happened to me last night.
I had missed a shot. I was on it, I
was down here, and my man broke. I said, hey,
pick up my man. And then when my team says
I got him, you get mine. See that's communication because
see now I know I gotta go pick up the

point guard now because my center has gotten ahead of
me because I had just missed a shot. You see
what I'm saying. That's what's supposed to happen. That's not
what happens when the Hawks at all. So if you
don't call out your defenses. Here's a deflection. You have
Dison and Roddy going after the ball. When Wallace gets it,

(17:11):
Dicing is on him, Roddy doesn't know what to do.
For some reason. Okay, he doesn't know whether or not
he's going to double or get back on man bit
also doesn't know what to do. He should get checked
because oh has taken on Sga. Okay, at a point,
you got three people in the paint for the Hawks

for some reason. Check, he's just gliding back up to
the three point line. Wallace passes a Check, who fakes
a three, then drives around Roddy, who finally comes up
to guard somebody in the case. Then he hits another jumper.
I called this bucket on the whole team for not
calling out the defense. Nobody said nothing, nobody ever, nobody

ever communicates watch just for his growth and development.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Now go winging the year number two, having that great
Bookie campaign, alkrit ut off the three point line? Why
is it just stet Then take that all boat jumper
and smoothly knock it down.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
That's not defense, people, Roddy is out there in no
man's land. That's not defense. That's not even cool. This
can't be cool for anybody. And that's my point on
showing these videos is because until you get to the
depth of why the defense is so bad, is that's

when you should what you should be mad about. Okay,
it's a teen thing and it's being non taught from
the bench. Because we had anybody responsible, these things couldn't
continue to happen. Shot three, first quarter again, you got
to play through the whole possession at first. On this one,
VI and Kobe correctly switch on Williams and Wallace. They

do the right thing. VI now has Wallace, but for
some reason he then't lets him go. Also had lost
his man mysteriously. Okay, and and his man glides over
to the corner three while it's dips behind, Dyson gets
a pass lays it up. I'm giving this a dic
in because in the n either or he would have

given up the three the sea as well if they
had passed it to him. Watch what I'm talking about, going.

Into a second four years and the season is twenty
twenty three, and jump the pass underneath there is Keason
Walls camped out just inside the block.

A did Because the league knows that we're not gonna talk,
so all the coaches in the in the league say, hey,
if you just keep moving, they're not gonna stay with
you because they don't know how to stay on assignment,
so you are we will have at least three people
open all the time because we're just gonna crash down
to the paint like we're doing something like that's defense,

(19:55):
like we play for ten defense. We show activities that
look defensive that are not just the old team though,
and again some of the players can mitigate this a
little bit because the size and seat speeds and all
this kind of stuff, but the tenets of it is

(20:15):
bad and that's why we lose games. All right. Let
me show you watch SGA going into.

A second four years and season is twenty twenty three.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
He leftpan, Dyson left his man. There's two people that
failed right there. See if that had happened last night,
somebody would nobody would pay for the next game? Easy,

You see what I'm saying. It's easy to fix stuff
when you play pickup ball every night, right, But in
the NBA it's not as easy. But it should be.
It should be. Coach says, come here, sit, sit. People
aren't doing stuff because again, if the coaches are saying
stuff and the players doing it, well, who's in control?

(21:10):
Do you want to win games? Because that's not winning basketball, folks.
That's all I'm saying. Can't win like that poor shot
first quarter. Check is bringing up the ball, Dyson is
pointing to Williams, pointing who is coming up the floor. Now,
who's a sign to Williams? Dyson recognizes it, But who's

(21:32):
a sign to him? Is it Roddy? Is it? Dison?
Check drives oh stops him. Dyson leans in to try
to help. Roddy is the only one not on anybody.
So when Williams comes, Check passes over the top, Williams
gets a layup, I want to give it to Roddy,

but I'm probably gonna give this one the check because again,
there ain't no health defense. At a certain point when
your teammate, if they get beat for whatever reason, that
got to be a helper. We got to defend that.
You can't just let it happen. And we let a
lot of stuff happen, especially in the paint. Poor shot
first quarter.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
The ability just deal to create for himself and rollin'
drop on it, Williams.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Player, Is that defense? Play it again? But y'all tell
me is that defense Dison sees Williams coming, Someone got
to take responsibility for that player. Calling out who has him?
Nobody did, and Williams has kept on coming. And when
certain players got engaged, Check just said, well, I'm just

dumping off to Williams caause ain't nobody picked him up?
And then Vince just stood there and let him lay
the ball up. Are y'all cool with that? And how
is any of that trades fought? By the way, because
y'all blame Trey on everything, how is that his fault?
He ain't on the floor. Twenty eight games? Trade did
and play and this is the stuff that was happening
every dog all night. I showed it to y'all, and

some of y'all still won't acknowledge that. We'll play it again.

The ability if you're to create for himself especial off

to follow the ball handler rather than staying with this man,
and instead of players just switching or fighting through a screen.
These things can be negated by those just again basic
tenets of basketball. Every gain every game. Kobe switch though, however,
at the end and provide some help defense, but he
just simply can't stop check fish shot.

To get better, look for the opportunities for them to
grow through it at thirty approach.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Thee now is that Kobe's inability to play defense based
off of him not being able to stop somebody with
an eight foot wingspan. He at least put in the effort,
and a lot of times the effort is there with
certain other players. You'll want to acknowledge that on the
basis of the players, it's taller. Again, when I get

into the post, unless you straight found me, mug me,
you're not stopping me. I get the ball in the post,
which is why I always have two people on me.
I got somebody front me and I got somebody in
back of me. Almost every time I get in the post,
I'm getting got another cut right here for no reason.
My back hurts because you know, because I'm the biggest

and taulast got on the floor most of the time
six shot. Again, our bigs have not been taught the
right way. The rest of the team has not been
taught to talk. Let people know what's going on. Chris left,

means I know I got a screen coming from here

determination per my peripheral vision and not turning my whole
back to somebody. What I'm gonna do. Am I staying
with my man or we switching? Or my fighting through
the screen. Who's this person? I can fight through that screen.
He's a little flow person. Here comes Jergernaut three hundred
and thirty pounds offensive lineman. I may have to go

around that moon coming like the death start right. But
you can make determinations on what to do or switch. Hey,
I got your man, keep going with it. Hawks don't
do that. Hawks never do it is sick shot. You

did that. That's not defense, that's fake defense. And again,

That's all teams do against us. That's how you hit

just sit in the corner because nobody's going to run
to you until it's too late. That's not defense, folks.
And for some of y'all to continue to claim that's
defense and then claim that that's just how it is.
It's just a lot. How I know that because what
teams do to the Atlanta Hawks. That's how I know that.

over and instead of vent just moving up and staying
with his man, he squeezes himself again. William gets a pass.

review in the heat game, Vic gave up twenty five
points in that game by himself. Okay, it's a bad night,

bad night. But most of this is because he is
not good at defense. This is playing and simple. He
isn't okay, which is another reason he can't be the
back of the point guard. You don't need to have
those kind of minutes on the floor at all. But anyway,
where am I at. I'm gonna just I'm gonna just
let you watch this eighth shot first quarter.

proving that we are not being taught on defense, because
Garrison is about to show you something he does all
the time, and many hawks do all the time. They
just stand in the paint twenty feet away from their man.
It's like a religion or something. They can't be looking

at any tape. They can't be all right. So I'm
gonna show you this. His man is Carusoe. So Garrison's
back is to Carusoe, all right, Williams. Williams drives to
the bucket. Roddy is on him. There's no reason for
Garrison to come and help in this case unless he's
going to take a charge or foul him or do something.

(30:50):
Because in this case, what doesn't have no angle to
take no shot. Garrison wasn't about to block anything. So
why is he there? What is he doing? Since Garrison
has left his man, Russo comes all the way up
and gets a layup. Again, I'm giving this Garrison. I
could give it to Vic because he's right there and
he sees everything. And he clapped after the layup. I'm

giving this the Garrison for leaving his man. This is
a nice shot. First quarter.

We don't have no recognition of situations on the basketball court, guys.

the worst part was Garrison leaving his man in the
first place, like he was gonna do something he didn't
need to do. That. You make the offense make a decision.
You don't let the offense dictate to you because they're

always going to have an advantage. Let me show it

The only reason that there was that cut because nobody
was on him and then vit did nothing either. There

in points in the paint giving up this year, So

screen involving chet Oh follows the ball handler again and
I'm gonna give this a OH for cong group once again,
and there was no adjustments off the bench. This has
happened already a couple of times, and it happens again
and nobody does anything with it. Again. You're supposed to
have to trust the help defender in the paint. You
stay with your man, and what happens after that is

on whoever's in back of you. You gotta stay on

all the other teams over the decades, half people around
the people Steve Nash look at what his team was.

needs to be the back up again. With Dyson and
z R and JJ out there the majority of the minutes,
it makes us a force to be reckoned with athletic
wise and everything else that I've already said. Again, with
Bogie and Hunter as threats on offense spot up shooters,

some really really talented scorers on our team. Okay, so
the defense out though, which is why again you make
you mitigate the defense that we give up as as
they are starters coming off the bench less minutes, there's
much much less points that Bobi will be able to
give up and much less points that Hunter will be
able to give up if they're not playing starter minutes anymore.

Plus Hunter can't get through a season anyway, so maybe
mitigating his minutes will keep him longer on the on
the floor for us. That's another reason again, if we
keep Clint like I said, and you're and you're using
him primarily as a rebound Clint, you get the rebound

your guard, and then you try to get another rebound. Okay,
that's all he needs to do at this point in
his career if we keep them all right. Because he
can't do anything on offense, he should never be in
the fourth quarter ever again as a hat. If he

out there. He can't do anything to help the team win.
