Old. Hey everyone, this isYo. It's your boy, Funky,

to the Cool Table with as you'relistening to the Cool Table. You're listening
to the Cool Table. And I'mnot sure if you know this, but
right now you're in the cut withmy man, Adril Smile. Good morning,

(00:22):
good afternoon, good evening, andgood night. My name is Adril
Smiley a k a. Atosmiley dotCom a k a. Adril Smiley Official
aka the Godfather. Now Here inthe cut, we challenge our guest to
finish a type of ice cream beforethe end of the conversation. Now we
have someone returning first time in person. You were one of those Zoom legends,

(00:45):
a friend of the show, EricRyan. Yeah, I didn't know
to finish that you I see achallenge. Hi everyone, my name is
Eric Ryan. I'm music Stuff. And you got the cookies and cream and
we got Eva's original cookies and cream. We got a whole whole cookie in

(01:07):
here. Crazy. I've never seenthis type of what's it called cookies and
cream before, but I'm about it. It's very viscous, but I'm down
Yeah, having a full cookie andcookies and cream is giving authenticity. Yeah.
I mean it's in the name,so it makes sense. Okay.
Yeah, so before we get tothe real stuff, this is probably the

(01:29):
most important question that we have toask mcflurry flavoro, do you have a
favorite? Yo? Okay, soregularly you get the cookies and cream,
or if you're feeling a little special, you know, like get the Smarties.
You know, try it on anotherday. But man, the the
apple pie one that they just dropis insane. It's like that, Yo,

(01:53):
it's like that. I don't evengo to McDonald's like that, and
it's like that, bro. Wow, I ordered Uber Eats. I had
to get one just by itself. It was like I was like, yeah,
I have to. I had todo it once. Bro. It
was nuts. It's like, uh, it's one of those where it's like,
why didn't we do this before?Yeah, it's like that. Yeah,
because the rollo was the one thateveryone liked when that came out,

(02:14):
I didn't. I didn't love therollo. It was good, but like,
I feel like it's not given mcflurrybecause those rollo chunks were so big
that it was like a whole different. It's like it's ruining my uh my
vibe. Yeah too much? Smarties? What the smartiest eminem which everyone was,
that was when I used to alwaysgo with. But I haven't had
a mcflury a year, so maybeI got to try this apple pie.

(02:36):
You might have to you might haveto swap these out for for McDonald's kind
of check. Actually, get downthe papers for I didn't ask you about
this last time, and I madesure I asked you this time. Your
start in terms of you working withMark him hearing you sing, do you

(02:57):
remember what you were singing in thecar? Do you remember that at all?
Like? Yo, okay, Soit kind of started a little earlier
than when I would sing in frontof him, but I remember. So
we started do a marketing business togetherand it was like entrepreneurship style, like
he just show up at my houseand then we just start working on stuff.
And one day he showed up atmy crib. I was still sleeping.

(03:19):
He knocks on my door, comesin and he's like, yo,
man, I got to show youthis song. It's so crazy. This
guy showed me Daniel Caesar's Get Youand Japanese. Then that same day,
Yeah, it's like I remember it'sa corn turned into a core memory that
whole moment, and I think therewas something unlocked in my brain where I

(03:44):
was like, Yo, if Icould make music the way that this song
just made feel, it made mefeel, that would be dope. I
think that was like an a littlesprinkle of of like what started me on
a on a path of music. But in terms of like working with them,
we used to h We used todrive together to like do all these

(04:04):
marketing things like go to a clientor just go to like a Starbucks to
work on something or whatever. ButI remember one time he was he was
playing some tracks and I started likehumming and singing or whatever, and at
the end of it, he's like, yo, why like why don't you

(04:28):
Why don't you sing more or whatever? And I was like, I don't
know. I ended up just doingcovers or whatever like from that, and
then one thing led to another prettymuch for marketing, we did we shot
a music video for a rapper.I forgot the name of the song,
but at the end of it,we were like, why don't you just

(04:50):
do one for yourself? Why don'tyou just make a song and do it
for yourself and then yeah, butbut Mark's always been Mark's always been like
my family pretty much, so we'vealways been doing things together. So it's
always does that answer your question?Yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty much.
He's always been He's always been around. So having him as a manager
is also so far because he understandsme on like an emotional level or on

(05:12):
a familial family level, unconditional lovelevel. Yeah, you know what I
mean, so shout. I thinkthat kind of shows a kind of crazy
person that you are, that youheard Daniel Caesar and said I can do
this or I can do something likethis, because like those two songs especially,
is like it was it was gamechanging for sure. It was one

(05:33):
of those like it wasn't even necessarilylike oh I want to make this,
but it was like the feeling of, man, I feel like I'm floating
right now hearing the song. Ifeel like I need to call my shorty
or something as right, tell meI love her right now? You know.
I was like, man, likethat is such a crazy feeling for

(05:55):
for just listening. Yeah, havemusic make you feel that way, because
that's not all music, And Ithink and I think like that being the
music you gravitated towards I like towhere I can hear it in your music.
But I think like you going forthat feeling I think when people connect
to your music because it's like Idon't need to really know exactly what he's

(06:16):
talking about, who he's talking about, but I just get the feeling.
It's like you enter into the world. Yeah yeah, like yeah for sure.
So I feel like sometimes too, like even though I might not necessarily
get the exact story that they tryto portray it like as an artist,
like or as a listener, it'slike I'll find my own ways of how
I relate to the song or howI how it makes me feel. Yeah,

(06:41):
yeah, interpreting it. So yourfirst song you ever wrote, interlude?
Yeah, crazy. I had noidea that was like that was really
the start of it. Like,oh man, that's a crazy way to
start, like talk about that.Oh man. So I didn't even know
how to make music, like,oh I need to play guitar and like

(07:04):
sing a little bit. I wouldjust practice and stuff, but in terms
of like making a song, Ididn't know how that happened. Like I
didn't know how how to do it. So I messaged one of my boys,
Brian, and it's crazy because westill play on the same hockey team,
but then we just like we splitour own ways as we grew up

(07:24):
or whatever. And one day hewas posting him playing piano so fire so
far. I was like, dude, I don't know what jamming is,
but we need to do that.We need to do it. So he's
like, okay, sure, Sohe pulled up and then we made interlude

(07:45):
in an evening and then he waslike, why don't you just release it?
And I was like, right peoplearound you. Yeah, Honestly,
I shout out to that, becauseif it was just me, man,
if if you heard the beats andthe songs that I try to right on
my own, I should have Ishould have quit. Then I would have
quit then in there, man.But honestly, it's like, if there's

(08:09):
anything too, it's like having theright people around you. Shout out to
Brian, shout out to Mark andall the people that have now they're the
ones that really pushed me though tocontinue, like just with the passion of
it. You know, I'm gonnagive you your credit too, because you
know, you're a self taught musicianand I think that like that is extremely
rare these days you don't really seethat, but I think that being someone

(08:31):
who's self taught and like going outfor help, the combination of those is
pretty good for sure. So yeah, I got to give you your credit
on that one. Thank you man. So this is I guess your first
project since the world is outside.I think, oh the FRI is the
first. This is the first projectsince uh dream State, Yeah, so

(08:52):
I think was during the pandemic.Correct, that was during the pandemic.
Yeah, yeah, so it's yourfirst outside Yeah, this is the first
like project where on it. Andthis is the first project where I I
really wanted to see what happened workingwith the people around me, like really
like also including for myself, likeeven producing myself playing guitar and bass,

(09:13):
because when we were inside, Ikind of took this idea of like,
yo, I know a little bitnow about like how to use logic garage
band or whatever. I just andI know a little bit of guitar.
I don't really know bass, butI really want to tap in and learn

(09:35):
how to just do it for myself, even if it's still like self taught.
So I did because I did,and then so for yeah, and
Red Flags. Those were all likebasically made by myself and Kai and and
Sonya Shu and all like the homiesthat I have around me right now.
Yeah, I saw you were talkingabout starting to play bass. O man,

(09:56):
Yeah, Basis bassis is one ofthose like everyone wants could play.
I feel like everyone like everyone lookscool playing the bass. How would you
rate your progress so far? Crableyis good enough because the project, but
for sure, for sure, Ifeel like, what's crazy? Because like
when I started it, I wouldalways see online like people always talk about

(10:18):
the bass, but it's like Ifeel like they only they only talked about
like the the rock type of bassor whatever whatever. But R and B
bass is a different soul bass, different all that. It's it's like what
keeps everything like fresh, you know. And I started listening to a bunch

(10:39):
of like a lot of bad badnot good and a lot of even like
Daniel Ces just stuff you see alot of like similar similar things and they
work together. Yeah, but uh, what's it called? Yeah? I
started picking it up and just likenoodling around and then I started playing live
for like some friends that I hadperformances and whatever. So Maria Terrez.
I would play for Ashanaka as well. Yeah, yeah, I just started.

(11:01):
I just kept playing. I didn'ttake any lessons, but I just
had fun. Just gotta have funwith that man, and then you figure
it out over time, you know, like you find your own taste as
you continue to do. So what'sleft for you to learn how to play?
Because between last time I saw you, I think no time I saw
you, you were playing bass.So you played that Shanaka show. But

(11:24):
is there anything left for you totry and learn because clearly you're a self
taught king out here. Any instrumentyou pick up, I'm still a student
though. I'm like, I may, I may seem all right, but
I'm still asked the right but I'mnot. I'm like, I'm getting there.
I want to learn a little bitmore piano. I think piano would
be dope like crazy bag. Yeah, oh for sure. Man. It's

(11:46):
like when you unlock a new instrumentand you start to like songwrite with it,
It's like so many different avenues.I was talking to but I was
saying that of like what instruments youplay kind of like you know, leads
your songwriting in a sense, andso it's like there's some people who don't
play instruments at all that their songwritingis like strictly themes, strictly lyrics.

(12:07):
And when you learn a new instrument, it's like I may have come in
with rhythm first, but now thatI have keys, I'm going chords to
lead. So I can't wait tosee what that does for you. Like
songwriting, it'll be fun. Ijust gotta I just gotta walk in.
Listen, you we know what,we know what it is. Give it
a couple of years, like dothe the what's called the practices? Yeah?

(12:30):
Yeah, listen. YouTube is yo, YouTube's popping man? YouTube s
popping. Yeah. I I shoutout to them, all of you.
Shout out to all of YouTube andall the the the teachers on there,
because you learned so many things, even if it's just learning from a song
or like I know, when Ifirst started playing guitar, I wanted to

(12:52):
learn the song to impress my mymy girlfriend at the time. Yeah,
Greade eight, OK, it wasa Oh my god, it was Jack
Johnson. It was like a bananapancakes. I think that was the name
of the song. I don't knowif you know the song, but crazy
on DVD, yeah, DVD,hell yeah, hell yeah yeah. I

(13:13):
was like I saw a YouTube tutorialand then that was like, even though
you learn the song or whatever, you take little parts of it where it's
like, Okay, this is howyou slide, this is how you do
like a hammer on whatever, littlelittle things and all of these, uh,
these teachers on YouTube are like they'llgive a little pieces. They're nice.
Yeah, I've been playing keys again. Oh yeah, I'm not in

(13:35):
the gym like that, but Ikind of want often, but I kind
of want to start like producing again. I think we're locking in. I
need more time, any more time, but I want to start locking in,
like at least by the summertime. And those YouTube tutorials I need a

(13:58):
bit coloyer basis. You're like,do you test here here? But those
YouTube tutorials are so clutch, andit's like I'm picking up stuff from when
I used to really play keys,and I'm like, oh, I haven't
done this, and especially because it'slike I haven't played consistently and so long.
So even the like muscle memory oflike playing a scale or playing a

(14:22):
chord, it's like, oh,I feel what this feels like again.
This is familiar what I used todo is this or was it like it
was your it was the way youplayed before, like theory based, very
theory based. Yeah, classical starYeah yeah, it's like when you're coming
in with love, not with love. It's like like it like you're doing
because you want to. Yeah, yeah, it is with love. Because
at those times, like I wassaying this to four Corners, like if

(14:45):
I wasn't doing classical, I probablynever would have stopped playing piano because I
was more into jazz at that time. But you couldn't compete with jazz.
So it was like I was practicingjazz at my own time just because I
liked it, but it was like, okay, you need to practice classical
so you can actually go in thecompetition. And so it's like if it
was the other way around, maybei'd still maybe playing, but now I

(15:07):
don't. I don't got to dono classical music. Anybody nobody teaching call
that. So getting the opportunity nowis like I don't know, I got
big love for these YouTube teachers, like you know, they teach everything.
I actually learned on YouTube how totie a tie, m m. Yeah,
YouTube taught me. I had thetire tie. So I shouldn't say

(15:28):
that my pop did teach me.Sorry, but it's a refresher. Your
little wins or not YouTube was refresh. One thing I have in my notes
about this project is it's a lotof shorty so fine yo, like yeah,
and you have you have that.I think it's the first song talking

(15:50):
about it's about a show you sawin the crowd talk about that, like
how do you spun the block onher? Like what's what's the deal?
It's uh uh. I'll preface itwith a like I'm a big I'm a
big dreamer. I'm a big simp. Sometimes man, it's like when you
see you ever have that time whereit's like whether you're going you're at a

(16:11):
grocery store and you just see thethe flyest, fliest person ever and they're
just doing their thing, literally doingthe thing, and you're like, why
am I floating? You know, like you when you smell a pie and
you're like yeah, And it wasjust like, I don't have the not

(16:34):
to say, I don't have theconfidence to go up. But it's like
it doesn't make sense to just dothat in some in some in most situations
for me at least, and it'slike, Okay, I'm just gonna I'm
gonna write about how how this feels, what I would have said, or
like how i'd like in an idealsituation that would be dope. But yeah,

(16:59):
I feel like I'm just like likeI said, I'm I'm I'm a
fantasizer. So it's like, Okay, the smoke is on the floor,
you know, like I'm walking outcool and ship, you know, but
in reality, I'm like in thecorner and I'm just my phone. I'm
not saying that the look and thenright back to your phone like I'm the

(17:21):
calculator or something. You know. It's so funny because as an adult,
like when those things happen, likeyou don't beat yourself up at all,
Like when you're a kid, You'relike, should talk to her, you
know, you know what I mean, You're like to talk to her.
You're like, I knew it wasn'thappen like this. She was flying.

(17:41):
You know. Sometimes you gotta respectfrom a distance, you know what I
mean. I'm I'm a big likeyo, she's beautiful. She doesn't even
need to know that I have to, like I want to say anything.
I respect she knows that she needsto hear from me. I'll just tell
everyone else since then you know,I'm scory. That's one hundred. Sometimes
like sometimes like it will be someonewho you're like yo, like she is

(18:04):
it like times infinity, and thenit's like okay, so no, you
don't need me. Like she's gotlife. I don't want to ruin it
for her, like I you haveall the pitch excuses, Like one of
my go to one used to belike I'll ruin her life. You know,

(18:25):
she found peace and she's healed. You don't need me to hear yea,
Like I don't want to ruin herlife, you know. So because
on this project, I feel likethis you're still in your love them on
bag, but you're definitely more oflike, oh I see you surety?
Like is that like a changing ofpersonality from then to now with that,

(18:45):
because I feel like your writing stylehas remained somewhat the same, but it's
like way more of like a littlebit more okay, more things, yeah,
more, you know what. It'snot as much like innocent life of
it's more of like I want thatgirl for sure. Yeah, No,
it's it's definitely maybe it's like that'swhat I want to be. I guess

(19:10):
maybe, so I'm like, okay, maybe if I just paint the world
of like how I would want tothat would be kind of cool. But
yeah, I know it's it's definitelyUh, it's definitely growing up a bit
and kind of being okay with howyou feel, like being like truly yo
with you, Yo you're bad.You know, not saying it literally like

(19:34):
that, but but that's like thelike I guess everyone don't. That's how
I was coming in your d MS. Okay, you get different, Eric,
this is what it said, Yo, you're bad bad. Let's grow
with them. That's where how itgoes, how it goes. Yeah,

(19:56):
so Bad it's my favorite. Uhshout out to Maria Torres Bioa, She's
so dope, like my best friendMaria to So Bad is my favorite because
that's like my favorite flavor of thatstage when it's like I'm not even trying
to talk to you, I'm justenjoying you being bad. Yeah, it's

(20:18):
like that's real beautiful, she's great, Like that's a fun place to be
and talk about that song. Ohman, it's that experience of when it's
almost like when it's when it's mutual, when you're hanging out whatever, whatever,
you're doing whatever, and it's likeyou can sense it, like they

(20:41):
genuinely enjoy your presence and you're like, yo, I fuck with you,
let's get it on. Then youknow that's like there's be more. You
know. I think So Bad isdope because it's like it captures almost in
a way in terms of like howI plan it. Like after floor it,

(21:02):
it's like, okay, now you'renow you're there, Yeah, you
made it. Now you made it. Now you're not. You put your
foot in the door. Now you'regoing on a date on two you know,
just seeing how they are and you'rerealizing, yo, we're kind of
aligning, you know, and whenyou align, that's crazy. That's the
mutual obsession. Yeah, I feellike we could have a whole separate this

(21:22):
relationship, like love a podcast.I get what you mean, because this
is crazy about to say. There'ssometimes where it's like there's someone who you
like know or know of and you'relike, yo, if I had her,
you know, And then sometimes youget to a place where you're like
it's almost regular to you then AndI had that moment with someone who like

(21:42):
idea. I thought they were flyI d M them. I was okay,
i'mout my d M ship like slid. And then like at this point,
like me and them are as coolokay, and I almost like wow,
Like there was a time when Iwas like so juicy, you know
what I mean, Like I wasso juiced to DM you, and now
it it's like you're just you're thehomie and it's crazy. It's like that's

(22:03):
like the progression of the steps. It's like but so bad as when you
have that like that feeling for someoneand they have it back, they have
it back. But then also it'slike you really you're really professing that so
yo, I really want to beyour I don't want to just be friends
with you. Yeah, you're laughing, but I know that's how you're saying

(22:27):
it from your from your heart handyou want some ice cream, you know.
It's so funny, Like we're laughingabout like I funk with you is
a big compliment, And it's funnybecause sometimes you'll be like that all you
got like's like no, but Ireally I don't fuck with you, I

(22:47):
really really do, you know.So it's like it's funny because one of
my friends. She's talking to thisguy who was like super into her,
and I'm like, I'm actually jealousof him because it's like he's so into
you that he just like enjoying beinginto you. And that's like a whole
different place where you're It's like,I just like that. I like this
person. Oh, I mean it'slike he locked in. He don't he
doesn't even care where he is.He's like, what's going on as long

(23:11):
as he's with Yeah, And Iknow, like that's a fun place to
be in where it's like you justlet yourself dangerous, but fun place to
be in for sure. Bro,summertime it's coming. It is coming.
It's crazy that you talked about likeyou want to play keys next, because
I actually have in my notes thatlike, I see you getting behind the

(23:32):
piano next, So I feel likeI'm manifesting it somehow. But I do
see that for you, like interms of an album that's like a different
tempo. Does that something you're likeyou think about for the next project.
I would definitely want to, Like, as you're saying that, I'm just
imagining. Like when I was practicing, I'm like, I still got some

(23:53):
ways to go first before I figureit out, but you'll definitely hear something
in the future like pan based Ilove. I'm a big fan of you.
That's why I linked Brian in thefirst place, because I loved his
piano, his planning, piano playing, and I definitely want to learn how
to do my own or at leastcompose my own stuff. Yea, similarly,
for sure, I think we gotto talk about the name of the

(24:15):
project, red Flag red Flags.I guess I have a set of lyrics
for you, but let's talk aboutthe name being red Flags, because I
thought that was so interesting a namefor me, because when I heard the
project, I didn't hear that likecrazy red flag talk. But I think
that's part of what makes red Flags, I guess, so interesting. It's
like it started out with like,I'm so into you, You're perfect,

(24:37):
and I don't see it at first. So talk about not being the name
of the project and why that isfor real, No, it was,
it's definitely likes it's well, there'sso many ways to, uh, I
guess portray that, but for sure, it's definitely you don't see it at
first, and you kind of seeit later on and in life or in
the project, you know, Butuh, I think there's something where it's

(24:59):
like we all have our own things, our own our own vices, our
own situations, our own scenarios, and our own red flags too, you
know. And it's not to saythat we should enable that, but I
mean I think acknowledging that you haveyour own sometimes or or acknowledging that it's
there, and being aware that it'sthere, you can make decisions moving forward

(25:26):
in a relationship, whether you wantto stay or not, whether you want
to address it even for yourself, whether you want to start working on it.
Like everyone's everyone's uh what's it called? Everyone is accepting of hold on,
let me let me, let meyour phrase. I'm my brain's fucking
turning off right now. Everyone's capableof love and given love, and it

(25:52):
may not be perfect, but Ithink when we address these things, we
can make things better. But that'sjust like a little that was very if
you let's get to the meat potatoes. I'm dancing around. What are your
red flags? Oh man? I'mI get not to say that I get
avoidant, but avoidant attachment, Isometimes I do that. I just don't

(26:18):
like to like sometimes when I getin a little pickle. I sometimes I
I I kind of shut out theworld and I just go do go,
do my own thing. And toan extent sometimes it like it works to
a little bit. But then whena little bit too much of that,
you getta you know, you getpeople asking them about where you are,

(26:42):
what are we? Like, what'sgoing on? Why do you hate me?
I don't know all these things? How do you How do you answer
that? Mister? What are we? How do you answer this guy put
his hands hair? I mean,it depends, it depends on the depends
on the situation I got. ButI mean it's I'd say, Okay,

(27:03):
going back to the flag for myselfis definitely that for sure. And I
think now that I'm aware of it, I'm much more capable of like moving
a little bit better. Like,Okay, if I'm not talking to people,
and I haven't talked to anyone inlike a week, maybe I should
just like hang out with a friend, respond to all the messages. Maybe,

(27:26):
you know what I mean. Itmay may seem as small, but
it does make a make a differenceor whatever. Maybe if like you know,
if you're angry shit, you know, like maybe you realize you're taking
it out on people. Shit, maybe I should work out instead, you
know, I know it's like alternative. Yeah, and communicating it is good
too. I think that's something thathelps. Is like if you could tell

(27:48):
someone I may not talk to youfor forty eight hours, that's the rock
with you, you know, Andso it's like, yeah, there can
be that comfort of Okay, Eric'sjust doing this thing. That doesn't mean
that I'm canceled because I haven't heardfrom her. I think that was because
I feel like we all have ourred flags. I feel like mine is
probably I'm just too handsome. LikeI feel like that in itself was real.

(28:15):
This is the hot table actually whyit's all melted? Man smelted.
One girl actually told me that shethought I was a catfish. She's like,
there's no way, are real.I'm like thanks, So I thought
I thought that was cool. Andthen another girl said that my beard is
my beard was like, oh,it's like yeah. It was kind of

(28:38):
clause. She said my beard wasa red flag. She's like, no
one with a beard like that issafe. I know you have hose.
I was like, who heard her? Man, Like, you can't just
have hair your red flame's not thatbad because I had those are are a

(29:00):
lot worse. You said, wematch in red flags? Damn? Oh?
Ain't that something too lazy to changeright back or raise white flags?
This sounds like SOMEKXIC ship. Soshout out to Kai Kyle. This guy
is a lyrical genius. Oh mygod. But uh, hell he was.
He's so funny enough. It wasactually it was actually his song originally,

(29:26):
or it was like he came upwith the concept. I don't know
if you like, if if youhear the beginning, hm, that was
it was like it sounded like aphone conversation, but it was actually just
him like trying to explain that theplot of like what we should write about.
So I was like I was like, fuck it, let's just use
it whatever. And then we endedup just turning it into things. And
then he's like, oh here, yeah, but in terms of can you

(29:51):
say the line, yeah, wewe we match in red flags? We
match in red flags, damn?Or ain't that something too lazy to change
right back or raise white flags?Yeah? And on that point, it's
like we can't ignore that we havethese problems or these challenges that we face,
you know, like as much aswe want to live a perfect relationship

(30:11):
where it's like all it's all fineand dandy. Everyone's got something. We're
human. Yeah, yeah, youknow what I mean. You got something,
You got something, I got something, And to each varying degree or
whatever, or we will come acrosssomething in life or whatever, and we
can't just ignore that, you know, And if we want to do well

(30:33):
or if we want to contribute toa relationship right especially with someone, it's
like they will see it, likethey will see it, and it's a
matter of like, Okay, weknow what's going on, but I still
love you, I still fuck withyou. I want to ride through,
and I want to fix whatever eventhough we have that. I think that's

(30:53):
a good thing to bring up becauseit's part of and where it's like lazy
to change right back or raise whiteflags eggs. I feel like that is
the biggest thing I think some peopleare missing, is someone to hold you
accountable properly. And so you saylike too lazy to change back or a
race by fact, it's like I'mgonna do those things before you hold me
accountable. And I think like that'swhat people in life are for, Like

(31:15):
I want someone to hold me accountableand tell me when I'm on some bullshit
like no, if I can getaway with it, it's like, you
know, that's not what you want. So it's like when it comes to
people having red flags, it's like, listen, I'm not perfect, but
I don't need to be perfect tohold you accountable and vice versa. And
I think sometimes that's what happens,is like you when they push you with
me, put you on bus,and it's like, oh, ship,

(31:37):
you're right right, and it's likecrazy, well you should hold me accountable.
You can't even do this, Andit's like damn, oh you're going
here, Okay, I mean you'renot wrong, so I can't. I
can't be upset. Man, Yeah, I don't. I don't deal with
those. Well, I'm just likecould you not? Could you not?
Like I would love to just beperfect and that would be great, but

(32:00):
it's like, if you're really goingto say that I have all these your
beard's too big, I don't know, that's a I don't know. Feel
free to grow at your beard aslong as you want. Yeah, Like,
don't let anyone tell you different,Like, don't let any tell you
different. Let anyone tell you differentfrom Yeah, like I think also I

(32:21):
think too. It's like what wecall a red flag, it depends on
the person. Yeah, absolutely absolutely, it's definitely. It definitely varies in
size. I've had people say thatbecause I have a lot of friends that
are women, that's a red flag, and I'm here like, I don't
know how that's elaborate. Please Yeah. Yeah, So it's like, I

(32:44):
think, it depends on the person, and then it's up to you to
have your boundaries. Yeah, absolutelyabsolutely of what you what you determine as
something wary about, for sure. And that's why I honestly I loved Floored
as the start of the project, and I thought, like, that's such
a great voice, because that's howred flags happen. Red flags don't ugly

(33:04):
people as much as much, tobe fair, like ugly No, like
ugly people are red flags. Islike they can still have red flags,
but like you just assume they don'tbecause it's just like you're too ugly to
have red flags. Like tell meI'm wrong, tell me I'm wrong,
ship Man, shout out to theugly people. I love you. No,

(33:29):
I mean I think everyone everyone haseveryone has it for sure. Okay,
so let's be real. But thegirl talking about in the FLOORID is
not an ugly person. And that'show that's how red flags happen. It's
like, okay, okay, Isee where Okay, welcome me. Okay,
I was blinded. I'm seeing wherethe word it is. Ok.
And so it's like, because Ithink you're so beautiful, I can't see

(33:52):
your red flags. And someone's ugly, you might see those red flags right
away, but yo, you couldyou could actually be super super bad,
but then your personality is a trashyeah, just as equal, you know
what I mean. That's often toono, it's but it's real though.

(34:12):
Like I think where I'm at nowis I have to like you as a
person to like you. I thinkI can think you're attractive, but I'm
not going to have that like yeahfor you if I don't know you,
like yeah, exactly. I thinkthat's where for sure, Like when you
have someone that's like I think,yeah, I'm the same way where it's

(34:34):
like, yo, you can belike whatever, yeah, like like obviously,
like there's a point of attraction visuallyor whatever for yourself, like any
level. But if you're funny,oh she's funny, and she's making jokes
and I'm like trying not to laughas hard because I'm noticing that I'm laughing
too hard. Oh, I'm thinkingabout it. Funny is my kryptonite,

(35:00):
honestly, Like if she's funny, every man just wants to laugh. Man,
Yeah, Baddy with jokes, that'sall, that's all you want to
the b Yeah. Like you're rightabout, like you see yourself laughing,
You're trying to hold back your laughtop it off. Yeah, Like I

(35:22):
think it's it's so funny because oneof my friends were saying she met a
guy and he was laughing at herjokes and she was like, I'm funny
but that, and I'm like,oh, yeah, he's in love.
He's it's funny because I've caught myself, especially through text. Someone texts me
something and your back and you're likenothing was funny, Like nothing was funny.

(35:52):
Like she's just telling me what she'seating, you know, crying,
crying death. Yeah, so that'sthe time when you notice, like,
okay, ship, Yeah, that'sa that's a good sign. Yeah,
it's like, okay, I'm likelaughing at stuff that's not even really funny.
So clearly I'm like, I'm you'reyou're in danger mode. Yeah,

(36:16):
yeah, I see that. We'regetting like our springish summer, even though
even though today it's like windy asship and cold. The suns shining though,
yeah, yeah, it's suns shining. Are you one of those people
who has that like summertime it's tolike be outside more dude, in the
winter, I'm a hermit. Ido not leave also because of the economy,

(36:37):
I'm but I mean, like inthe summertime, you know, even
just going outside for a walk,I'm all about that. Yeah, I'm
all about just being outside. Man. It's like, I don't know,
I'm more of a I like togo to I like to go to shows.
I like to see friends playing atwhatever. You know, just being

(37:00):
outside. It's it's a good time. That doesn't asking if you have a
summer activity you're looking forward to becausethis summer, I said, what,
we're trying to be on more boats. Yo, We're trying to trying to
do some fishing on a boat. And ever if you if you go fishing,
let me know alow fishing trip. And I'm trying to be on on
the bike more like even even ifeven if I have my car park up,

(37:22):
my car, hop on a citybike, you know, do some
round, get some get some wind. Yeah. So anything like that for
you the summer you're trying to reallydo or I guess it's fishing with one.
I mean, like I don't evenfish like that, but I'd like
to try it. Like I wantto do a cast I like, I
I'd love to do that, butI I definitely I'm a big summer concert

(37:45):
goer. Yeah, man, EchoBeach, like any any shows like Planner
Bro when the sun like yeah comesdown, you're smoking a blood like,
oh that's that's like that feels likehavings though, and then you get to
listen to dope music too. Yeah, in some lit shows at Echo Beach,

(38:07):
like Echo Beaches, like I justgot tickets for mister Elliott Sierra.
We just got tickets for that, and I've got tickets for Sir He's coming.
Yeah. Echo Beach's that history Historyis getting all Echo Beach shows now.
It feels like, oh yeah, but Echo like the two shows that
Echoed that were some of my favoriteshows at all time. One with Anderson
Pack. Yeah, I know Ihad to leave. I had to leave

(38:30):
early because some of times taking thetrain, I was like, let me
walk alone, but I was dancingout there like you can still hear it?
Yeah stop just yeah literally put theticket in. Yeah, like I
was getting down and then asap Tyler, Vince Staples, Danny Brown that was

(38:52):
like echo is a legendary Yeah yeah, but during the summer, no summer,
summer contant. I feel like thatThat's why I spend your money to
me, like in a winter travelsummertime concerts for sure. I'm not a
I'm not a club guy, soI'm like all of my money just goes
to concerts. I'm not I'm ata club. I feel like I don't

(39:15):
know the times I've been to theclub, like fre One's birthday or something
like that. Like yeah, ifit's for like a friend or whatever,
like you want face, you know, but I think tell me feel the
same way. Like I notice nowthat the music is too loud for me,
and and like the rumble is likethis is not clean, Like who's

(39:37):
like I didn't equ this at all? So much frequency, Yeah, like
it just bothers me out. Iwant to I want to just dance the
merch madness, but like this isnot it's it's almost like whenever I go
more times i'm just smoking outside withthe home. I just find myself outside.

(39:57):
So I mean, yeah, it'sdefinitely and maybe I'm just getting old
or something, but it's like it'sdefinitely like when it's too too loud,
it's almost like, Okay, whenyou go to a concert, I never
stand right beside the speaker because that'slike unless I'm bringing my like I don't
bring I don't bring fucking ear plugsto the club to the concert or whatever.
But that's I don't know. Ifeel like I feel like it gets

(40:21):
kind of crazy and there get overstimulated in a way. Yeah, Like
I think I might be trying todo some day parties that might be like
myne in between outside on a boatto maybe a boat perchance they were all
the bodies on a boat, likeyou just gonna mind you a baddy and
be a plus one. They don'tthey don't want us on a boat.
Let's be real, they don't wantus on the boat. Like the baddies

(40:42):
gotta find the people with the boats. Yeah, like all the baddies with
boats. Let me be your plusone plus two, Like, yeah,
I'd love to be a plus one. Yeah, okay, let's take it
back, because we did have aninterview I think three years ago now,
maybe three years ago one oh ship, that's crazy. That's crazy, bro,
time flies wild. Yeah, Iwatched a bit of it. You

(41:07):
look pretty much the same, Thanks, thank you. I guess I look
pretty much the same too. Butit was just crazy us doing it over
zoom. But I asked you somequestions I must see if you remember the
answers to. Okay, so wedid our top five people in your life?
The top of people make you whoyou are. Now you can give

(41:27):
me at least two of your topfive, we can, Okay, what
do you do? Who do youthink was in your top five? Top
five people in my life? Andone of them was an artist's that's I
give you a hand. One ofthem was an artist, Danny. Okay,
you got that easy? Baby food, baby food, my my parents,
my mom, and don Mark.Yeah, who's the last one?

(41:55):
Disrespect family as a whole? Youget to say, okay, okay,
shots to them, family as awhole. So for exotic animal, mm
hmm, you probably had the leastexotic animal we've ever gotten in the question.
But do you remember what you said, Uh, dog, dog,

(42:16):
dogs and cats, and you saidyou would get some shots because you're a
live to everything. Yeah, soI actually end up getting a dog.
I'd like to change. And Ilove my dog Nico, She's such a
sweetheart, but I want to changethe answer. Okay, and for this
reason, Yeah, got a fuckingraccoon. Raccoon has a tattoo. Bro,

(42:37):
My my new my new animal isis a raccoon. They're so dope
from dogs the cats to raccoons.Raccoons are Raccoons are dogs with hans,
you know what I mean with likea pole thumbs not rocking with raccoon.
Raccoons have beef. They're fire.I think they're fire because, like Yo,

(42:58):
they can climb. We're on twodifferent sides. What are you against
raccoon's future and Jake right now?Because when I live downtown two things.
One one of my neighbors had raccoonsstuck in her walls and you could hear
them. They got a club inthere, yeah, and you could hear

(43:22):
them going at it. So thatwas nasty. But they used to get
in the wa no, it wasnuts like nuts. And as well,
they used to get into my garbageall the time, and my balcony was
set up where like the garbage canswere on the balcony to go out and
kick it and smoke. Is likenot the same vibe because you watch it.

(43:43):
Yeah, it's like they owned thebalcony. And it's like you said
they could climb, So it's likeit's those tall they're climbing into the garbage
bins like eating the popeyes. Andit got to the point where they wouldn't
even wait till the sun was down. It's like you're just going on ever,
they're hungry, they're thirty PM.I said, have some respect.

(44:04):
Let me go to sleep first, let me smoke first. Yeah, so
during the day, yeah, meand raccoons are always gonna have beef because
of that. Like a bad experience, I guess. And when do you
see like a domesticated raccoon. Yo, I've been seeing bear on on TikTok
or reels or whatever you got tosend me. Yeah. See, they're
kind of the pretty cute stuff. That's so cute. You're like the fifth

(44:25):
person who said like raccoons, likedracoons are like on the come up right
now, it feels like I thinkthey're domesticating them or something. I'm anti
raccoon. That's probably the one thingleft to hate it that they can't cancel
it for. But I'm going todo't you want a little like it's like
it's like a Pokemon, you knowwhat I mean, Like imagine like you
could like a Pokemon, like yourlittle low picatre type. Yeah, and

(44:46):
it's like, yo, you couldbe running around if you want them to
climb on on your back or something, you can. That's kind of cool.
Once once I see it properly domesticated, I think that's what I got
to see, you know. It'slike once I see someone yeah, because
I feel like you're honestly you heardthat too, right, Okay, someone's

(45:06):
either getting attacked having a lot offun in the hallway. But I think
once I see a raccoon domesticated, like because that would be fly if it's
like they're just walking around just chillinglike a house raccoon or something like you
know, like I seen I've seenone where so this family they have one,

(45:27):
and uh, because it's not domesticatedyet, it still likes to like
dig also, like he likes tolike scratch the walls, so he has
like a he has like a littlehouse in the kitchen and a hole in
the kitchen and then he comes outthe whole Come on, what do we
do it? How is that selling? That sounds destructive? Like like now

(45:52):
that I say, it's actually actuallywait, like you're you're just so in
love raccoon, you're sprinkling it likeit's fly Like that's not that's not it?
Like how you gonna have raccoons havekids? Like imagine if someone has
kids and they have raccoons so cut? You ever seen the movie over the
Hedge the raccoon. I know themovie talking about, but I obviously haven't
seen it. Honestly, raccoons aresurvivors many I I I admire that they're

(46:22):
so agile and able to survive inany setting they used to be in.
They used to be in forests andship but they're out here living in the
city. Bro. Yeah, comeon, man, there, I'm trying
to find any They are versatile, but like versus and I think I think

(46:42):
being versatiley is so important and thenmaybe maybe that's why I got the tattoo.
But literally, like I don't knowif you've seen the meme, there
was literally just like a raccoon. He was standing just like a cool little
guy. Yeah, I want tobe a cool little guy. I want
to be versatile. I respect that. I think I think that raccoons of
all the like, I hate theanimal. It's an animal channel now man,

(47:07):
and I hate that. Like you'reyou're half selling me, Like I
should have wrote these points now myfeelings were involved, like like they're the
best of the scavenger. It's like, no one has his love for crows.
No one has actually crows are cools. No one has his love for
cockroaches. But when it comes toraccoons, it's like that raccoons are like
the Miss America of like because they'rethe cutest bro. No one wants to

(47:30):
have a pet cockroach bro. Well, actually know there are some cool ones.
I think if you, if youcould have a pet, would you
like a pet pet? Like anyany any animal? I think I would
want a big tiger. I thinkI think like or any cat, like
panther, like lyon epic cat.Yeah, Like obviously I'm black, so

(47:52):
that seems extremely scary to me.But when the white people are like comfortable
with their cats and they're all likecuddled up with them. I'm like,
I wish because even cuddling up withlike a dog is like a vibe.
You know. So if you hadlike a big cat, it's been a
big pillow. Yeah, I know, exactly them to not like yeah,

(48:13):
so it's like that would be avibe. That'll be sick. Yeah,
but you need to have like acresand acres of land, like you can
have no local apartment with Toronto fivehundred square feet ohness, like yeah,
so it's like that would that wouldbe my answer to that. Yeah,
yeah, yeah that that were horses. I rock horses to your horses are

(48:34):
dope? Man. Have you everbeen on a horse park? Yeah?
Yeah, Like I don't even know, like in the wild West. Yeah,
sometimes they have them at the XYeah them though, Yeah, but
that would be a vibe though,Like having a horse. Yeah, that's
that's pretty badass too, you know, like, Yo, how do you

(48:59):
even acquire one? Where do yougo? Do you go on? Like
I feel like a black horses. This one's fast because you know during the
pandemic when everyone got their dogs andthey were getting them from everywhere, you
know, there has to be thatfor horses, like for for horses.
Yeah, especially because I like,I used to work at a horse racing

(49:21):
track, and I mean, Itold you the story last time. But
but but I saw a horse getput down on the track. Yeah,
it was crazy and might get thehorse won the race, like it won
the race, and it like hurtits ankle like during the wind and so
like it won and then it waslimping and they kind of just put like

(49:43):
a sheet up and then yeah, the horses went. No. It was
wild, And I thought about thatbecause I'm like, isn't there like a
better place for that horse, Like, yeah, you can't race, but
like you know, there's I don'tknow, that's crazy. So that' so
I'm like, maybe that's where wecan get our horse from. Is like

(50:04):
horses that can't raise no more, but we could still you know, like
toss it on a wheelchairs. Yeah, because I'm like, even if my
horse will walk around with a limplike Forrest Gum, you know you have
to move just stay there, yekick it like I just want to sit
outside with you, you know, like undred percent. Yeah, I'm happy
I've got to that one. Thislast one. I know I shouldn't ask

(50:27):
that because if you get this right, I'll be surprised, but for Wednesday
wisdom. So I want you tohave a new one after this, But
can you remember what you said lasttime for Wednesday wisdom? A motivational quote.
We're saying that you always remind yourselfof trying to remember, don't don't
over judge your ship. No shinebright was yourn right? Okay, yeah

(50:51):
that too, I guess you know. Yeah, in a way, if
you if you twist and turn ita little bit, it's kind of the
same thing. It's like, yo, you just gotta you gotta be yourself,
and you gotta be proud of ofyour of your of your work and
and who you are. Uh.And if I really that's what I just
said, which I thought it was, Uh, it's like, yeah,

(51:15):
don't shot on yourself. Bro,you got your you're up. Yeah,
be nice to yourself. Be niceto yourself. Man. You know,
like you may still be learning aboutwhatever you're doing. You may not be
the best at it, but you'restill doing it. They're out here and
it's okay to be your biggest fan. I think that a lot of confidence

(51:36):
has called people call someone cocky orarrogant, and it's like, why do
we not want someone to be confidentin themselves, like what is wrong with
Eric thinking he's the best? SoI think there's a bit of that that
happens a lot with people where it'slike it's not natural for you to think,
oh my god, this is amazing, I'm amazing. It's like it's
more natural for us to think likemaybe I'm not that good at this.

(51:57):
Maybe yeah, you know, soif we could flip that, and it's
like, no matter what, becauseI know people who have that like blind
confidence i'll call it, where it'ssomething they've never never even done before and
they're like, I'm going to beamazing at this, And it's like we
should just adopt that more for everything, for sure. And there's definitely like
there's definitely like some sort of barrierwhere it becomes like conceitment for sure.

(52:22):
Like obviously like more times, morepeople aren't gonna reach that, right,
like in terms of that level oflike cockiness or whatever. But like and
I come from like growing up andthroughout my my life or whatever, like
I had low self esteem for moretime, like more times, and I

(52:44):
realized that like yo, what doyou do? What do you did?
Why? Like why are you talkingshit to yourself, even like the internal
dialogue from like oh this sucks,so I don't know, I can't I
can't do this, I could neverdo this or whatever. It's like you're
just stopping yourself, you know, you're stopping yourself from from from making making

(53:05):
potentially something super dope, or leadingyou towards making something dope, you know.
And I over time, it wasn'tlike overnight or whatever, but it
was definitely like when you appreciate thesmall things that you do for yourself.
Okay, I try to write averse. Okay, I've played guitar for
someone at a live show. OhI performed the show, or I dropped

(53:27):
an EP whatever, It's like, okay, progress, well we are We're
good, you know, beyond yourown team and ship, you know.
So that that self talk is importantbecause I realize now from kind of studying
people who are successful, is thatthey usually don't talk about themselves negatively the
way that other people do. AndI think that something I've seen is,

(53:53):
yeah, people might love them, might be popular, but their confidence is
supreme and it's almost independent of thatother stuff. And I always say,
it's like, you know, someonewho might be popular's like, yeah,
of course, of course you feelconfident in music. Everyone loves it,
and it's like not, I wasconfident in this in the studio before anyone,
you know, I was confident inthis in the studio. And I

(54:14):
think that's like sometimes we look toother people to give us that confidence and
it's like, nah, this isfire, like y'all wrong, this is
actually fire y'all can't hear? Forsure? This self talk is good?
Oh yeah, absolutely, And itwas like even like I definitely didn't start
with that, but I learned itover time for sure, through therapy shows,
the therapy therapy and friends too,and like a really good environment of

(54:37):
supportful sport, supporting people. Butuh, it's definitely something that can be
learned by everyone in any situation. But so that's yo, that's trying right,
broying. Yeah, I think wecan make those both the when they

(54:58):
was in for today. The firstperson I've ever let get two windsday wisdoms,
shine bright and what do you say? Be nice to yourself, don't
over judge yourself judges, Yeah, don't over judge on your own team.
Yeah, be on your own teamis a yeah, because I think too
that a lot of people are sayingthings to themselves they think people are saying

(55:19):
about them, and it's like,no one's actually gonna say this, and
even if they do, you probablywon't hear it. And so like,
out on the rare occasion, somefucking hater or something, and I'm listen
missing when the hater shows up doingit then, But don't hate before the
hater gets it. You know, there's there's no point in doing that.
So I think that like not overjudgingyourself and not overdoing it. Let's see

(55:44):
how far you got with the icecream. I feel like we had a
good job in distracting you. II messed up because I came a little
late. Even turning this this islike, I'm feeling really bad that you
spent money on this because I camehalf an hour late because my uber went
on a crazy adventure that was shutout to them. Now they be doing

(56:05):
that, it's like it's not inthe budget. Like I'm down for the
adventure, don't get me wrong, but uh, yeah, I have to
eat this cookie at least, yeah, at least. Okay, let's let's
get this cookie go down. Yeah, fire fire you half half suction?
No real, I thought my vegans. Yo, are you a chips ahoy

(56:27):
guy or an oreo guy Oreo?I don't, oh shot, yeah,
not even the soft phones. It'snot only the only the soft ones,
the regular yo back element. I'mgoing to back when those like trips cookies
used to be the thing that likecrunchy ones. I hated that. That
was always wow to me. Whenthe sophones came out, I was like,

(56:49):
Okay, now we're cooked. Butthose ones that like will crumble and
like make a whole stry kids withfiend for that. I said, what
are you eating at home? Likeyou want like there's a secret to it.
Okay, you have milk, youhave it with milk and you let
it dissolve in your mouth. It'scrazy too much. He just like you
wanted to be soft, like likelike I feel like warming up almond milk

(57:15):
to eat cookies is it's like we'regoing we're doing too many steps, too
many steps here, like this isnot a movie, like this is really
Yeah, so I'm not a cinematicay, but unless you get the sponsorship though
only a soft cookies, yeah,I just that's what I'm overrated, Like

(57:35):
snacks to me. Back in theday, like, what about dunk us
a big dunk and the ground crackerwants to know there's a pandemic. I
bought dunk a use. Yeah,I still make those literally. I was
like, because someone brought that upof like dunker still exists, and I
said, if someone's questioning it,let me buy it where it goes away,

(57:57):
you know what I mean. SoI did that right away, because
there's there's certain things that you werelike, Okay, listen, I'm an
adult. I could just buy whatever. We're adults that we can spend adult
money on things, aunt money onkid things. Yeah, you want to
toast a shootle with the with thecream cheese in the middle, bro,
I have I have my phases whereI just go back and get some old

(58:17):
fruit roll up like old snap andusually honestly, they're done in one day.
Can eat these for two weeks. We gotta cunch every place all had
ones jo loi yo, that's likethe little like chocolate moon. Oh yeah,
listen, I'm I'm on a healthypast path right now. All of

(58:39):
those we're reminiscing, this is allin the past. I want to thank
you for joining us, man,Thank you so much. Honestly, it's
been way too long. Thank you. I'm excited for more new music,
thank you, man. I'm excitedto hear what you got going on.
For sure. I want to sayone one last thing for sure. When
an't we getting a full project likedouble digit songs? Yo? I'm okay.

(59:06):
So I'm working on Basically, I'mworking on a vault of a bunch
of music and I'm picking some stuffout for a project, for a bigger
project. On the lows, we'retrying to get some good funded, okay,
but also we want to grow thefan base so that way we can
when we put it out it's notjust a like nobody. Yeah. But
that being said, like a lotof the music that we're making that I'm

(59:29):
making now is it's album material stuff. Bro. Even this EP, I'm
like, this is like album worthy, Like no, and to like back
of the interview again, I thinkthe thing that I like the most is
like seeing the growth in the musicthat you're making that it's like, oh,

(59:52):
this is like qualitatively better than whathe made before, and it's like
you were starting at a good placeto begin with. So it's like it's
like how ra decent artists who already'smaking good music actually improve. You know,
they might make the same song,it might be the song you like,
but it's the same song. It'slike, how do you progress from
there? Whatever? You also tosee that progression from you from dream state

(01:00:12):
till this, it's like okay, like he's actively getting better, actively moving
forward. So thank you. I'mproud of you, man. I'm proud
of you, man, And shoutout to the dogs, shout out to
my homies. It's really, uh, it's really a blessing to have met

(01:00:37):
the producer. Florian all Man's like, uh, there's so many other people
I don't know. But I realized, like, waitkay, there's gonna be
like twenty minutes of the ship, but uh not like for real, Like
the people that I met within thelast few years really changed my perspective on
how to make music and how toproduce and how to write. And I'm

(01:01:00):
so grateful and I know whatever wemake now on top of whatever we've done
is it's going to be dope, and I'm excited for everyone here, I'm
