Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the John and Heidie Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Here's John and Heidi.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Today is a special day, Heidie, do you know what
today is? What is today?
Speaker 3 (00:10):
John?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I thought you never asked, Hidie. It is Monday, the
sixth day of January. It is Apple Tree Day today,
National Bean Day, Cuddle Up Day, get over here, baby, look,
cuddle up time. That sounds like a good IDEA short
Bread Day, Smith Day talk Now, I'm sorry. Take a
poet to lunch day? Okay, so do you want to
go to lunch today?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
No, I'm not a poet.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Oh okay, well never mind. Then take down the Christmas Tree Day,
three Kings Day, World Day for War Orphans National. Thank God,
it's Monday and way in day. Today's the day to
see how you've done since your new Yar's resolution. Maybe
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Maybe it's the day that you want to see how
bad you did over the holidays, and it's probably time
to get started.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah, it could be all of that happening. And it
is a movie star Monday. I have a guest joining me,
Tamberla Perry from Brilliant Mind and much much more. Can
a chat with Tamberla coming up? In a bit.
Speaker 5 (01:02):

Now Surveys n Studies NSUCH brought to you by Jascasemedical
dot com. As if there was ever any doubt, science
is now confirmed that mom really is the head of
the household. A new study published in the Journal of
Marriage and Family seems to confirm what many mothers have
known all along, that they oversee and outside share of
what researchers call the cognitive household labor. What do you think, Heidi,
(01:54):
I would agree with that? And they end the mental
load of running a family. Researchers from the University of
Bath and the University of Melbourne analyzed a diverse sample
of American parents for the study and concluded that mothers
handle a wopping seventy one percent of all household mental tasks. Well,
fathers are good for just forty five percent. I'm not
good with math, but that adds up more than What's more,
(02:18):
it found that moms handle, on average, seventy nine percent
of daily cognitive tasks, more than twice than fathers. Those
consists of consist rather of things like overseeing the children's schedules,
meal planning, monitoring of household supplies, dads, they tend to
make episodic mental work like maintenance finances. Mothers still handle
a significant portion of these tasks though as well, so guys,
(02:41):
We've got to step it up. Researchers caution that this
imbalance could lead to stress and burnout and even impact
a woman's career and resent. They could have a sense
of resentment that can build up between the couples. So guys,
step up and do your thing. Oh I will too.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Did you know what brought to you by Genesis Goldira
dot com? Heiid you know that Take your Houseplant for
a Walk Day is celebrated in July every years. I
didn't even know that was a thing. It's a bizarre
day where people take their houseplants out for a walk
so they can get to know their environment a little more,
which supposedly provides the plants with a sense of knowing
and familiarization with their surrounding areas.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
So, yeah, I won't be doing that either.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, Yeah, that's that's kind of odd. That's on the
twenty seventh of July for those of you who want
to mark the calendars. We don't know everything, but now
we know this now Big screen, Little screen, brought to
you by Radiosavings dot Com. Denzel Washington has become a
minister and was just baptized. There's photos of him getting baptized.
(04:15):
A religious moment occurred on a Saturday, I think it
was like a week ago at Kelly Temple, Church of
God in Christ in New York City. Washington has described
in the story as being dressed in a white robe
and burgundy stole adorned with crosses. So he also obtained
a minister's license, with a minister declaring that Washington now
has is now a member of the clergy. So that's
(04:36):
kind of cool. I always thought that Denzel seemed like
a need dude. An Aquaman star Jason Momoa is staying
in the DC foald. He'll appear in Supergirl Woman of
Tomorrow as Lobo, the alien bound hunter who first appeared
in comics in nineteen eighty three, So that's kind of cool. Yeah,
it's going to be more than one character in the
(04:56):
same universe, though, Is that going to get confusing?
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Probably?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
I guess that's why he's an actor. He can act
like two different characters. Big screen, Little Screen brought to

Now you are Scoop of the Day comes your way
courtesy of Jscasemedical dot com. I've got a survey here, Heidi,
that says the top thing people give up for New
Year's Eve are junk food, alcohol, smoking, and gambling. Oh
the fun probably don't give it up on New Year's Eve.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
They probably give it up for the New Year.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Oh yeah, I've got New Year's Eve as the last
night they go. Right, He does say things they give
up for the New Year. I added eve. I don't
know why jump food, alcohol, smoking and gambling. I know
some businesses that are actually they're still in business because
of those four things. And this is interesting. A new
type of EV battery could power vehicles for up to
(06:17):
eight million kilometers or five million miles. Think about that. Okay,
that's a long way. Electric vehicle manufacturers are using a
Canadian light source SYNCRA how do you say, a synchrotron
in Saskatoon to develop batteries with a lifespan of about
twenty five times the average life of a currently used batteries.
(06:38):
It's a long, boring explanation of the tech used to
make it, but researchers kind of broke it down this way.
They did this with funding from Tesla Canada. They said,
we were able to take a microscopic look at the
inner workings of a regular lithium ion battery and developed
the new single crystal electrode battery which is able to
sidestep the natural degradation degradation experienced by regular EV batteries.
(07:03):
This is the simple Yeah, the simple definition. One senior
professor involved in the project said that the team charged
and discharged the new batteries twenty four to seven for
about six years and saw absolutely no signs of degradation.
So yeah, that is the that was the the dumbed
down version. That was the non boring. They said, there's
a long, boring explanation. This is a shorter, less boring explanation.
(07:27):
So if you wake everybody up around you, now, we're
gonna move on. Scoop of Today comes your way courtesy

Thank you for listening to the John and Heidi Show.
Excited of is right now with Tamberlla Perry and we're
going to talk about a new NBC drama and this
is premiering right now. Brilliant minds. Tambrilla, first of all,
thanks for taking the time to chat with me and
this this program looks fantastic.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Thank you so much for having me. I'm excited to
be here. And if I must say so myself, the
show is amazing.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
And it looks like a whole lot of fun. Now,
how when they reached out to you to see if
you'd be interested in being a part of this, Like,
how did that go? Did you get a chance to
read the script and just like instantly fall in love?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Well, let me tell you something, John, I wish that
I was a I wish that I was a one
phone call and I said, hey, miss Perry, we have
a show. We want you to just read the script
and let us know tomorrow if you want to if
you want to do it. I wish that was the Casey.
I actually had four four auditions for this shovel, and yes,
the very first audition I got this This was pre strike,
(08:56):
pre Hollywood bag after strike. So I got script on
a let's say, at Tuesday at two o'clock and they
wanted me to record thirteen pages of it by Wednesday
at ten am. So that's those were the times pre
strike we had to get these auditions in, you know,
with minimal time. It's a little bit different now after
the strike. But yeah, My first audition was a tape audition,
(09:19):
and then I had three more auditions after that, and
my last one being with Zach fary Quinto.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
That is awesome, and you got the job because the
job I got.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
This is part I don't know about all the other
women who auditioned for this show, but the moment I
read this script. I remember finishing reading it early in
the morning and I wrote, like like two o'clock in
the morning. My husband, he's a writer, and he was
in the living room writing and I walked in the
living room and I said, hey, listen, I need you.
I'm going to be ready to record this in the
morning because I'm about to book this job. She's me,
(09:50):
I am her, and we're I'm about to be on
TV playing this character. I loved this from the moment
I read the script.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I love it now. The thing that's really neat I'm
reading here that your character, doctor Carol Pearce is based
on a real person who has the name Carol Burnett,
not the comedian Carol Burnette, but a doctor. Is it
kind of cool to play somebody who's like a real
person kind of cool?
Speaker 3 (10:10):
No, it's magnificent, But there's that thing is about Carol E.
Burnett that she passed away and two other fifteen or
twenty sixteen. You know, I was not able to of
course be in contact with her. She was a lifelong
friend and colleague and loyalists of Oliver Sachs, who are
show brilliant minds is inspired by this woman was a pioneer,
(10:33):
She was a trailblazer in medical studies for African American
students and born Brett in New York City. She was
an amazing woman. So to be a part of this
legacy is absolutely amazing, and just to bring life and
more interest and awareness of Carol Burnett, It's really been
more of the joys in my career.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
And this was kind of a dream team of real people,
real doctors, real things that happened. And I love the
fact that they're shining a spotlight on the careers of
these amazing people and letting other people know that first
of all, that they existed and showed what they had
a chance to do.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
That's right Oliver Sacks, you know, he was the show
is inspired and inspired by his life and his works.
And I don't know if people got a chance. If
you've seen the movie Awakenings, which is what you know,
kind of what Oliver Sacks this book is based off of.
So it's this. This has been a long time coming.
(11:28):
This show inspired by the life and works of Aliver Sacks.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
I love it. Now. You've had a chance to do
some really fun things. And one of the programs that
you were in was with Jamie Fox. What was it
like working with him on that program Bag.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Clone Tyrone currently on Netflix. We were number one on
Netflix for a long time. I don't know if you
know then I'm going to educate your listeners this morning
about me. But my background is comedy. Hollywood seed me
in this drama category, But my background is comedy. I
came from Second six. I did Second City in Chicago.
(12:03):
I did sketch and improv for a very long time.
I was in a sketch comedy truth called Soul Fools.
So to get tasked in the show opposite a movie
opposite Jamie Fox was a highlight of my low screens,
big screen, little screen career. I mean, who's who's out
(12:23):
here saying I don't want to work with Jamie Fox? Yeah,
And I tell you this, I didn't know how that
movie was going to come out because we were improvising
so much in those things. I didn't know how they
were going to string it together, but that movie came
out with fire.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
I love it. That's awesome. Well, thank you for taking
the time to chat with us today, and I am
excited to see Brilliant Minds. It looks fantastic.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yes, Brilliant Minds is Monday Nights After the Voice. Tonight
is episode two streaming on Tuesdays on Peacock. And if

Fun fact for you, Heidi, John, Earth is closest to
the sun this month in January, so that's kind of cool.
Fun fact for Ahiding John. The Southern Hemisphere typically has
milder winters than the Northern hemisphere because it has less

for a heading in the Philippines. McDonald's serves spaghetti. Oh,

Time now for some weird news, brought to you by
Weird Gift of the Day dot com. Heidi, do you
remember Jolt Cola, the soda brand that gained attention in
the nineteen eighties offering all the sugar and twice the caffeine.
It's coming back this year. Yeah, twenty five, of course
it did. They're promising more than twice the original caffeine
content as well. That's lovely. Initially marketed as a comp
(16:31):
like competition to Coca Cola and Pepsi, Jolt Cola will
now join the energy drink market taping, taking up space
next to Red Bull and Monster and Celsius. Redcn One,
the sports nutrition brand in charge of the relaunch, says
Jolt will be marketed as a nostalgic drink and will
be priced at two dollars and fifty to three to
(16:51):
two fifty to three dollars per sixteen ounce can, and
it's going to have two hundred milligrams of caffeine. That's
about the same as a sixteen ounce cup of coffee.
That is a whole lot less expensive, especially if you
brew it at home. Just pointing all of those things
out for those of you who are trying to get
energy drinks at all, Yeah, I would. I'll probably try
one of these, just because I had adult call them
(17:12):
back in the day. Oh, back in the day, I
had one. I just can see if it tastes the same.
Probably not. Weird news brought to you by Weird Gift
of the Day dot Com. Time now for the list
brought to you by jascasemedical dot com. Apparently some people
think it's just fun to dial nine to one one,
and it's not. And there's no laughing matter when it
comes to this. But here are some things that were
(17:34):
definitely not emergencies for the nine one to one emergency
service in British Columbia in the last year. Neighbors wearing
too much cologne. Somebody called nine one one for them. Yeah,
a dry cleaner stained my shirt. You don't call nine
one one requesting directions to the Shoppers drug Mark that's
(17:54):
open twenty four hours a day. You call information for that,
not nine one one. Somebody who called to report that
McDonald's would not open their doors. They dialed nine to
one one for that. Somebody who purchased a box of
thirty eight avocados and discovered they were rotten. So they're like, Okay,
these are not good. I tried to take him back
(18:15):
and they won't take him. So I'm gonna call nine
one one to request technical support. Nope, don't do that,
to complain that their power was out wrong number for
that that They left their phone in an Uber call
Uber requesting to help remove a wasp nest. No, and
the last one was somebody saw a domesticated looking bunny
in a park. So those were the weirdest reasons in
twenty twenty four for calling nine one one, Yeah, that's insane.

I hope I said that right. That person says sarcasm
helps you overcome the harsh reality of life. Makes people

(19:30):
It's pretty deep though, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (19:32):
It is?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
But I love sarka.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
I use it a lot, so that's very accurate.

That's why we get along so well, because I'm I'm sarcastic. No,

Dy We always like to wrap things up around here
with good news, and I think this is good news.
Comes your Way. Courtesy of Genesis gooldr dot com. Here's
your story for today from New York City. A service
dogs incredible impact on a little boy with a rare
genetic disorder. Patrick brish Hen, a four year old boy
(20:48):
from New York, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder,
but hope came in the form of a four legged friend,
a Golden retriever named Yam. Patrick's mother, Susan, a nurse
with twenty years of experience, noticed early on that her
son was not reaching developmental milestones. Patrick never rolled over
at three months, he was not sitting up at six months,
(21:10):
and he was not crawling at nine months. Susan sont
help starting her son in occupational and physical therapy when
he was just over a year old. After a second birthday,
genetic testing finally provided answers, he was diagnosed with Timothy syndrome.
It's a disorder affecting fewer than one hundred people worldwide.
After getting diagnosed, it was the first good night's sleep
(21:31):
I had in two years, she said. The disorder, which
involves a mutation of a certain gene, can result in
physical challenges, irregular heart functions, developmental delays, and seizures. While
there's no cure. Treatment and therapies can manage the symptoms.
Recognizing his lack of motivation to move, she explored the
idea of a service dog. Through a place called ECAD
(21:53):
Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities, the family learned about highly
trained service dogs that could provide both physical and support. However,
they needed to raise some money for their portion of
the expense. You know how much it was twenty five
thousand dollars. Well, in three weeks, donations rolled in from family,
friends and other people in the community, and she said,
(22:14):
I cried for three weeks. Patrick was matched with a
dog named Yam, a Golden Retriever whose impact has been
immediately noticed and very transformative. Within a couple of weeks,
he was doing twelve things that he had never done before.
And the story goes on and it is fantastic. I
do have a link to it in the show notes
for today at johndtheidishow dot com. Time saying by Heidi, Bye,
(22:36):
heid goodbye, everybody, have a great day. Thank you for
listening to the John and Heidie Show.
