Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the John and Heidie Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Here's John and Heidi. Today is a special day, Heidi,
do you know what today is?
Speaker 3 (00:09):
What is today? John?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I thought you'd never ask, Heidi. Today is Wednesday. It
is the fifteenth day of January. It's National Bagel Day.
I like bagels. It's been a bit bags They're good.
It's National booch Day today. I don't know what that
really is. That Kombucha's I've heard people refer to National
hat Day, National pothole Day, Strawberry ice cream Day. And
(00:32):
it is also a Wikipedia day, which I'm not going
to Wikipedia right now, but I am checking to see
what booch Day is. Oh, it is kombucha Day, so
the same thing as what I was thinking. So booch
Day or Kambucha Day. And I have a guest joining
me today. It is a Cinderella story. We're going to
talk to Lisa Cheek and the thing that's really cool
(00:53):
she went to China to film a movie about Cinderella,
and now she's got her own story to share about
this very fascinating Cinderella story is what we're gonna call it.
So rich out with her all about the details of
that coming up in a bit thank you for listening
to the John and Heidi Show.
Speaker 4 (01:10):

Now surveys and studies and such brought to you by
jascasemedical dot com. A lot of folks dread this month,
not because of credit card bills, but because it's called
dry January. A lot of people challenge themselves to drink
a little less for the entire month. This challenge started
in twenty thirteen, although there were probably people officially, like
unofficially doing this for a long time, but a charity
in the UK started the official dry January thing in
(02:01):
twenty thirteen, and now there's a lot of people who
have actually dove in and really participate big time, and
it's even helped contribute to people going, I feel better
after not drinking for a month. I'm going to make
it two months, I'm gonna make it four months, I'm
gonna make it eight months, and then all of a sudden,
it's a year. Now it's four years. Anyway, they say
the share of thirty four eighteen to thirty four year
(02:23):
olds of those people, they drink ten percent less now
in the last two decades, and part of that is
maybe because of this. Alcohol sales at major liquor stores
in the United States are down fifty two percent in
the beginning of January, and there's a big uptick in
people drinking mocktails this month.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So really great mocka There really are.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Surveys and studies and so that's brought to you by

Did you know? Brought to you by Genesis gold Ira
dot com. Heidi, did you know that new research provided
suggests that NASA craft Voyager one has left our Solar System.
That would make it the first man made object to
leave our Solar system? It was launched in nineteen seventy seven.
Voyager one probe is not set to run out of
propellant energy until this year twenty twenty five, meaning that
(03:36):
it would have somehow delved even deeper into the stellar
interstellar space. So they shoved it off in seventy seven,
and here we are finally this year. It's kind of
sputtering out. We don't know everything, but now we know
this now, Big screen, Little screen. Brought to you by
Radiosavings dot com. Jamie Lee Curtis is using her platform
(03:58):
to urge Los Angeles citizen sands to ease emergency response
efforts as they're going through all the stuff they're going
through with the wildfires and everything out there. So the
part of what the I think this is really cool.
Steve Gutenberg have you seen any stuff? There's like videos
and stuff. He's been out helping people and he's encouraging people.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Always liked him.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
And he's encouraging people to community, come together, people help people.
You know, these guys are busy already. Don't call them
if you don't have to call them. So that is
what Jamie Lee Curtis, who we've had on the show, yes,
and Steve Gutenberger, who we've had on this Yes, we have.
And I think it's really kind of a cool thing.
And all the sadness that's going on, all the terrible
things that are happening, some good has come from it
(04:38):
as well. And there's been a change in plans for
Brendan Fraser, his next role. He was supposed to be
doing a play, like an off Broadway production, but right
now it sounds like that's on hold and he's doing
something different instead. So I don't know when that's going
to be back on the docket, but it was scheduled
to start February fourth and run through March.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Super Talented Do, Super Talent.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Big Screen, Little Screen brought to you by Radiosavings dot Com.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Now your scoop of today comes your way courtesy of j'scase.
Medical dot com survey found that veterinarians are the least
cursed at business. So that's okay, except for our veterinarian
when they're like, how much was it for that? Just kidding? Now,
you're usually pretty nice to the veterinarians. Yeah, I'll be
nice to you because my dog's wellbeing is in your hands,
(05:54):
and it looks like weight loss drugs we go Vi
and Ozempic are not just leading to smaller wasteline. They're
also trimming the fat off profits for some food companies.
New research from Cornell University shows that people using these
products and other prescription meds for weight loss tend to
spend less money on food as a result. The study
(06:16):
that found that households in which at least one person
is utilizing one of these appetite suppressing drugs, that household
will spend six percent at least six percent less on
groceries in the first six months. I bet we've done
diets before where there was like a food replacement and
our bills went down from that because you were drinking
shakes instead of eating or whatever. But this is a
little different here.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
No, it's just your appetite changes, so you're of course
not buying as many groceries.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Among higher income families, this was even more of a
staggering amount. Instead of six percent less, they were spending
nine percent less. And what groceries in particular do they
spend less money on. Well, the steepest decline was in
processed foods like potato chips and savory snacks eleven percent
there and baked sweets nine percent. These households we're also
(07:00):
seen to spend less at fast food restaurants and coffee shops,
and those on weight loss drugs were found to spend
more on foods that dieticians recommend, things like yogurt and
fresh produce. So here's the thing that's interesting. You could
lose weight by doing those things without the shot. Yes,
you could, so if you wanted to. If you said, hey,
I can't afford those expensive shots, just make those changes.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, because you've got to make those changes anyway.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, just just try that on its own and see
what happens. I mean, you know, just a little device
there from Uncle John all right, Scoop of the Day
comes your way courtesy of jscasemedical dot com.

For listening to the John n. Heidi Show on a Wednesday.
Excited a visit right now with Lisa Cheeks. She's a
film editor and the author of a book called Sit Cinderella, Sit,
a mostly true memoir. Am I saying all of that? Right?
Speaker 6 (08:18):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (08:18):
I thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
This is such a fun story and it's quite the
string of events that led to well, a pretty fascinating book.
So tell us a little bit about what happened.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
You know, life is such an adventure, it really is.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
So I've been a film letitor for twenty five years,
working mostly in commercials, and you know, they seem to
like to work with young people, that's where it's at.
And so I was told that I had aged out
and I had heard this bad director kept telling me
about the film that he was going to do. And
you know, like everybody in Hollywood, everybody's got you know,
(08:52):
they got something going on, you know, actually making it
happen as an under story, oh exactly so, because you know,
it takes some money and the whole crew to make
it all happen. And sure enough, right about that time,
my friend got some money too to make this movie
that he wanted to make, shooting it all in China
along the Sibbetan border with an entire Chinese crew that
(09:16):
didn't speak a word of English, and the simple was
shot all in Mandarin and that's the language I don't speak.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
And this is like the story Cinderella, but it's going
to be filmed in China and it was apparently originally
written in China. Is that right? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Well, the director film documents that I think she found
like around nine forty nine a d. And he felt
that it was, you know, the original telling of the
Cinderella story. It's a very powerful female story and that
she helped the print save the world and it's super sweet,
and he felt that people needed to know that it
(09:52):
was actually a Chinese story.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I love that. So the thing that's neat, that's what
the film is about that you were working on. But
the book sit Cinderella's a mostly true memoir. This is
really about your adventure of getting pulled into the middle
of this and it it sounds like it's quite the tale.
It is.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
It really is. It was it was you know, going
to and I've traveled a lot. I've been to many places.
I've even been to Antarctica, but not too This was
a part of kinda that was so magical, and so
the villages were so tiny. No one there spoke English,
and like I said, I had not a clue how
(10:29):
to speak Mandarin. But I did have a t I
did have an assistant who spoke for languages nice or man.
He wound up talking to me instantly because that was
the only you know, he was the only person I
could really talk to because the director was very busy.
But I wound up living in a house with the
camera crew, which was fourteen men who didn't speak a
(10:50):
word of English, and that was such an adventure. It
was so wonderful. You know, I look back on it
now and you know, verbal communication, it's really interesting. It's
there wasn't any of that going on there, but you
could totally feel everybody from the heart, and you know,
they were super sweet. They wound up taking care of
(11:12):
me at one point, and they threw me a busy
party that was just extordinary with Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson
tied us all in together. They were all dancing, Michael Jackson.
So it's just it's amazing how music and just people's
energy is enough to communicate with, and you know they
(11:33):
were all connected.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Well, I'm excited to see this again. Sit cindere Ellison
a mostly true memoir. I'm excited to read the book.
Now the film that you were there working on. Is
that film done? Is that out as well?
Speaker 5 (11:45):
Or?
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:46):
So where can people find that?
Speaker 1 (11:48):
From what I understand, you can find it on Apple TV.
They have it. It was a small movie, so it
didn't have a very big distribution at the time, but
it came out in two thousand and ten, and yeah,
you can find it. I'm sure there's someenty of other
places you can find it. I just happened to know
because I put it on my website. Yeah, so people
(12:08):
who wanted to know about it could go and rent it.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Well, I will make it easy to find the book.
I'll throw links so folks can find your book again.
Sit Cinderelicit a mostly true memoir. But folks, hung also
put a link to that movie for those of you
like me that are going, I gotta see this. This
would be fun because I can only imagine. You know, again,
it's in Mandarin, so we're probably not gonna understand it.
But I still think it would be fun to check
it out.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Well there are you know, honestly, I didn't even look
to see what version it was, but there were several
different versions done. That was one with subtitles, there was
one done with dubbing. There was a lot of different
versions that wound up being done at the end.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Well, I'm not sure that you might be able to
find all kinds of things out there.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Bonus that would even be better. Lisa, thank you so
much for your time. I appreciate it so much.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Oh John, thank you, Bye.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Bye bye again Lisa Cheek. And I'm going to throw
a link to her book. It's called sit Cinderelicit I'm
mostly true memoir. I've got it in the show notes
for today at John anddheidishow dot com.

Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that?
Speaker 5 (13:36):
John?
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Cotton candy was invented by a dentist. We've talked about
that before.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Love cotton.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
I think it was called something very bloss Yeah, yeah,
something like that. Fun factor A hand to John. Popsicles
were invented by an eleven year old boy. How cool
is that fun fact for you?
Speaker 5 (13:53):
John?
Speaker 2 (13:53):
The first time the word yo was ever used. It
was way back in the fifteenth century.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Yo.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I didn't even know rocky was that old? Fun fact
for a Heiding was that pilots and co pilots have
to eat different meals just a case there's food poisoning.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Oh jeez.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yeah, that's good to know. And our final fun fact
for you, Heidi was that John, studies have found that
untidy or unmade beds are better for your health than
made beds.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
Heidi, I disagree, you're wrong, not better for my mental health.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Uh huh. Well, according to the studies, my side of
the bed is much better because I don't make it,
and then she makes the whole bet, I know you do.
Several fun facts now you know. Thanks for listening to
the John and Heidi Show.

Now some weird news brought to you by Weird Gift
of the Day dot com. The Australian government has proposed
a ban on children under the age of sixteen from
using social media.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I think that's a good idea.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
So they're gonna hand large fines to companies that don't comply. Hmmm.
The ban is to apply to services like TikTok.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
And x I honestly think that's a great idea.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Instagram and Snapchat. This comes after several incidents of bullying
and complaints from parents about the pressure their children face online.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
So and the mental health decline of kids on these sites.
It's just sad.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Well, and so I don't know if there's anything magical
about the age sixteen, but you know they're saying that
if you're under that age that you would no longer
in this. In government, I'm sorry, in Australia, the government
would say you're no longer able to be on these
Here's what will happen. The people will just punch in
a different area because there was already a date for
many And I remember having like a seven year old
(17:07):
that was on Facebook when you were supposed to be
sixteen back then, I was like, wo how do they
have an account down here? They're like just lying weird
news brought to you.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
At least it would help to maybe kurbit a little bit.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Weird news brought to you by Weird Gift of the
Day dot com. Time now for the list brought to
you by Jay's Case medical dot com words and phrases
that are banned for twenty twenty five. So Michigan's Lake
Superior University, because they're so superior, they have revealed their
list of twenty twenty five list of words banished from
(17:40):
the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and general uselessness. Are
you ready?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I am ready?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
All right. I'm not going to get through all of
them today, but I'll get through a few, and then
we'll get through the rest either tomorrow or the next day.
But we're gonna start with this one. Cringe. I've never
been a fan of that anyway, so you don't have
to ask me twice to quit using that. Daughter where
it is?
Speaker 6 (18:02):
That a lot?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
But she's that age where you say things like, you know, yeah, cramp.
Another one, game changer. I actually have said that one.
This phrase is often used to describe anything remotely innovative. Uh,
it's a well worn cliche. To put it bluntly, nothing
is game changer, and everything if everything is called game changer.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
True.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
So yeah, it's overused. I've got the entire list in
the show notes if you want to read it all.
But we'll go through the rest the next couple of days.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Thanks for listen, John. That was tubular.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Oh yeah, that's the that's one Heidi's trying to get at.
It's not going to happen.

We always like to wrap things up around here with
(20:24):
good news, and I think this is good news comes
your way. Courtesy of Genesis Goldia dot com. The story
comes from Overland Park, Kansas. Firefighters finished shoveling a driveway
after a man collapses. So they don't have to do this.
They go above and beyond. Though, firefighters in Kansas went
way above and way beyond by responding to an emergency
(20:45):
medical call Tuesday. They not only provided the life saving
assistance to a man who had suffered a cardiac arrest
while shoveling his driveway. But when they were finished with that,
they decided, you know what, let's finish the challenge, and
they actually shoveled the rest of his driveway.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
What great, guys.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
The incident occurred at eight forty am when a man
collapsed while clearing some heavy snow. First responders getting to
the scene in Overland Park. The first responders from Overland
Park Fire Department and Lenexa Fire Department, and Johnson County
Medical act They all rushed to the scene to treat
the man. Once the man was safely en route for
medical care, that's when the firefighters from Overland Park decided,
(21:25):
you know what, let's finish this up.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
How great.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
This is a job known to be physically demanding and
potentially hazardous for individuals with underlying health conditions. Are like,
the guy just had a cardiac arrest. We you know
he's going to come home to this and try to
do it again. But I thought it was really cool
a man shoveling snow suffered a cardiac arrest, and then
it showed all these different people on the post on
Twitter when he was being transported to an area hospital,
(21:50):
cruised finished shoveling the driveway and you're so sweet. It
looks like three people that are working on it at
the time of the photo, but who knows how many
were involved when it was also.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Not heavy snow man, Oh yeah, dangerous.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
And I grew up in South Dakota and we were
you know where I lived. We had snow all the time,
so I was so used to it. But that is
not something I ever ever looked forward to. Not a fan,
not a fan of snow. Definitely not a fan of
heavy snow. No time saying good bye, heide, bye, he goodbye, everybody,
have a great day. Thank you so much for listening
to The John and Heidie Show on a Wednesday
