Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the John and Heidi Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Here's John and Heidi.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Today is a special day, Heidi, do you know what
today is?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
What is today? John?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
I thought you'd never ask, Hidie. It is Wednesday, the
nineteenth day of February. Today is the anniversary of Iwo Jima.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
It's also International Tug of War Day, National Arabian Horse Day,
National Chocolate Mint Day, Lash Day, Vet Girls Rise Day,
Prevent Plagiarism Day, and it is US Coast Guard Reserve
Birthday today. All that happening on this Wednesday. And I
have a guest joining me as well. Oliver Goldstick is

(00:39):
the director and producer of a bunch of projects, a
lot of He's like the John Hughes of today. He's
got a lot of projects with young like what would
you call him, teenage actors in it. And his latest
is out right now, second season of School Spirit. We've
seen a lot of commercials for this. I want to
check it out. It looks really good. We're in chat
with him all about it. Coming up.

Speaker 3 (00:58):

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Surveys and studies and such brought to you by jascasemedical
dot com. Women are just as attracted to younger partners
as men, according to a new study University of California
data study with forty five hundred young people seeking a
long term partner. They found that both men and women
are drawn to younger people of the opposite sex, whether
they realize it or not. In the analysis, they found

(01:51):
at a following a blind date test, participants indicated they
were slightly more attracted to younger partners, and the trend
was equally true for men and for women.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
The study could you not be younger people are more fit,
they're more active there, I mean, that's common sense. We
really didn't need a study.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
For the study sample daters ranging in age from twenty
two to eighty five, so it's quite an age range.
I know somebody, somebody that's in this room who married
somebody younger my beautiful bride, Heidi over here, did she
married me? And I'm almost a full year younger than her.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Almost two years younger than me. Actually, no, just a
little you're always one year younger than yeah, the same age.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
A little over a year, yeah, not two years, so
that would be crazy. But I had somebody that thought
she was my daughter. So you know, just because she's
older than me doesn't mean that she looks older than me.
She looks way better than that. So there's an exception
to every rule out there, And in this case, I'm
into older chicks. So surveys and studies and such. Brought

(02:50):
to you by Jascasemedical dot Com.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I absolutely love my pillow and you can too. Get

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Did you Know? Brought to you by Genesis Goldra dot com. Heidi,
did you know that it's illegal to feed pigeons on
the sidewalks and streets in San Francisco?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
I did not, And based on some of the other
things that are totally allowed on the streets in San Francisco,
that's a little shack.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Public Works Department explains this law is in place because
there are quote dozens of reasons why you should not
feed in your new pigeon friends, but mainly feeding pigeons
harms our neighborhoods and also harms the birds. Really, so
I'm not exactly sure what that means, but there you go.
We don't know everything, but now we know this now

(03:59):
Big Screen, Little Screen brought to you by Radiosavings dot
com and BC is making a change to their judges
table for the upcoming twentieth season of America's Got Talent.
Heidi Klum, who has been on the show for eleven
of the past twelve seasons, is leaving. Her seat will
be taken by mel B who had been on the
show in the past as well. May twenty seventh is

(04:20):
when season twenty is going to be.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I didn't even know the show was still on. It
has been so many years.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
It has a couple of years. Yeah. Universal has unveiled
the trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth. It will be the
seventh film in the thirty one year old movie franchise.
I remember the very first one when it came out.
It was so far.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Ahead of his time and it still holds up.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah. I know a guy who Joe Jackson was guy's name.
He went to the theater every single day for like
three weeks. They finally quit charging him because he was
bringing people with He's like, you got to see this
right anyway. The new film hits theaters July the second,
and the amazing race just got bigger for the show's
thirty seventh season. Jeez, it will start with a record

(05:02):
fourteen teams. So they're gonna have fourteen teams now. That
debuts on March March fifth. I was going to say
March thirty seventh. No Season thirty seven debut is on
March fifth. Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Now your scoop of the day comes your way courtesy
of Jascasemedical dot Com. Research shows that seeing your friends' vacations,
love lines, and work successes on Facebook can cause envy
and trigger feelings of misery and loneliness. Do you feel
any of that?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know, I'm happy for my friends get to do
great things.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And I are happy I've had friends that have you know,
shared really really really good news, some amazing things. And
I've always said, hey, congrats, I've never once dot ah
blasted you. How come you always get the best?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I mean, who wouldn't be envious of a vacation? And
I mean, obviously you're going to be a little envious,
but it doesn't I'm happy for them, it doesn't. I
don't like go in the fetal position in the corner
in my hand.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I don't think that envy. I don't think it's I
think that you go on, it's nice for them, and
it'd be great to go on that way. I don't
think it's envious where you're because I think that's a
different thing. So anyway, I think that we should all
keep in mind that people typically post the good things
in their life. They don't always post the bad things.
So when you see somebody online that's like living their
best life. They're just sharing the best life. Yeah, they're

(06:50):
living a regular.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Life, oh for sure.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah. And scientists say they have found what could be
a cure for gray hair real and it's all natural.
Researchers in Japan have identified lutanol l ut e o
l I N I probably said it completely. It's an
antioxidant found in vegetables, and it is an anti graying agent.

(07:16):
They were conducting an experiment where they were focused on
three different antioxidants to assist their anti graying effects in
mice that were bred to go gray similar to the
way humans do. They say the effect of this lutolin,
or however said was startling. The mice that received the
stuff retained their black fur even as their cage mates
turned gray, regardless of whether the lutolin was given externally

(07:40):
or internally. What so they say, you can get some
in celery and broccoli and carrots and onions and peppers.
It is also available as a supplement for topical use
or oral use, making it a candidate for further development
as an anti graying treatment. So I'm going to spell
it again. Sure I said it wrong. L U T

(08:02):
EO l I N and I do have it in
the show notes for today at johndtheidishow dot com.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Thank you for listening to the John and Heidi Show.
Excited a visit today with award winning executive producer Oliver Goldstick.
He's got a bunch of great programs he's had a
chance to work on. You've seen The High School of
the Musical, the series Pretty Little Liars, a bunch of
other great things, and he's got one that is in
its second season right now on Paramount Plus School Spirits,

(09:00):
and this looks fantastic. Season two looks like a lot
of fun.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
So the first season explores a high school kid who
wakes up dead, murdered, and she doesn't know why. She
was not a target. She wasn't a mean girl, she
didn't have enemies. The mystery of what happened to her
drives much of that first season, which is eight episodes.
It's based on a graphic novel unpublished by brothers and
sister duo Nate and Meghan Trenrud, who I met really

(09:24):
during It wasn't Lockdown, but it was twenty twenty one,
still in COVID. Our led relationship was totally on zoom
in three different cities. Paramount Plus was really interested in
adapting this for a series, and it was sort of
a lovely hybrid between I'd worked on Pretty Little Liars,
I ran that show for seven years, but it was
a hybrid sort of between a teen mystery and The
Breakfast Club. There was a John Hughes quality that I

(09:46):
loved in the premise of her meeting all these other
dead kids and this permanent attention from different eras at
high school. So the first season was very much about
investigating Maddy's death and with the help of one live kid,
one friend who could see her. The second season is
sort of a metaphysical twist where we dip further into
the supernatural, because, as you know, if you watch the
first season, Maddie realizes she wasn't so much murdered as

(10:09):
she was stolen. One of the spirits at the school
stole her body, and it's now out in the real world,
the Second Chance of Life.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
It looks fantastic school spirits I'm excited to see this.
Now you've got Peyton List in the lead role. What
was it like working with her? She just seems fantastic.

Speaker 7 (10:24):
She is a lovely, lovely human being and really wonderful
actor who gets to play two roles this year. I
think she was so into it because she crushed it
and the idea that she gets to play a nineteen
fifties teenager in a contemporary world in her body. By
the time we got to episode five as a dinner party,
it was fasting to watch the takes on stage because
you could see her posture, how her just her eyes.

(10:46):
She was. She created a different person and it was
fascinat because when you get to the editing room, you
cut back and forth to Maddie a contemporary twenty twenty
five teenager with Maddie the nineteen fifties teenager out in
a twenty twenty five world, and it's really a joy
to watch an actor blossom like this.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Now you've had a chance to do some other fantastic
movies in a similar genre, high school Music, all the
series Pretty Little Liars, also things like Bridgerton. When you
had the opportunity to do school spirits, this is something
that's familiar, and I love that you mentioned that it
kind of reminded you of John Hughes the Breakfast Club,
because I think a lot of people could see that
type of thing there as well. But do you enjoy
working with that genre with young people because it seems

(11:25):
like you do a really good job, and the stuff
that you're doing it's always a hit.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
I do well good. I did recently had teenagers in
my house, but I mean, and I was a teenager.
Maybe I still am. I love writing that chapter of
people's lives because I think the stakes are very high.
I think that young people, when dreadful things happen to them,
and they often do, sometimes ten twelve times in the day,
they don't know if they're going to get over it.

(11:50):
It feels at the end of the world. And I
think community gets you through it, usually having great friends,
having great families as well. But I think the time
of year life, those things that happened to you and
how you navigate it and survive them, that's what informs
your life as an adult, and how you survive disappointment
and reject et cetera. When you're thirty, forty, fifty, sixty,

(12:11):
you know, you get bad news from the doctor. All
that stuff is born out of who you were when
you were thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen years old. These shows,
to me, I think they transcend, and I know we
have adult audiences older than fifteen sixteen year olds who
love what we're doing because they recognize and they're in
touch with that moment in their lives.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
And one of the things that I think is almost magical.
If I'm ever feeling old in Curmudgeony, which I'm getting
to that point where that happens, I can put on
something from the eighties of John Hughes movie that was
one of the teen movies of the day, and I'm
transported back to my youthfulness too, So I think that
you'll have the same thing happen here.

Speaker 7 (12:46):
I totally agree with you. For me, it's like Saturday
Night Fever, you know, or Fame or those movies when
I was a teenager came of age too, and I
think the show, even though it's premise feels quite dark,
what I was really attracted to is there's hope. When
I read this onlish novel, I think one of its
statements to me was you're not defined by the worst
thing that ever happened to you. And I loved that.

(13:06):
I love that they were truthful about the alcoholic parent
and being a caretaker to a parent. There was a
lot in there that I thought was really residant and
wasn't timid about exploring for any young person's life.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
I love it. Oliver, thank you for your time. I
appreciate it so much.

Speaker 7 (13:21):
My pleasure. Thank you for having me again.

Speaker 1 (13:23):

Fun fact for you, Heidi, John, Ben and Jerry originally
wanted to start a bagel company. They ended up doing
ice cream because they couldn't afford a bagel machine.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Oh fun.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
That ice cream thing turned out okay though. Fun fact
for you Hide, John. Before it was downsized from sixty
four ounces to fifty ounces seven to eleven, big gulp
was fifty percent larger than the average human stomach. Wow,
So like you, you can't even drink this whole thing
in one sitting. Fun fact for you, Heiding. Giraffes are
thirty times more likely to get hit by lightning than people,
probably because they're so tall. Probably fun fact for you, Hide,

(14:39):
It is estimated that ten percent of Europeans currently alive
were conceived in a bed from Ikea. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Wow, okay.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
And our final fun fact for you, Heidi was that John,
two to four percent of people can hear the world hum.
It's a humming that's in the background in their lives
forever and always. Two and four percent. Yeah, I don't
think Let me listen. I don't think I hear it.
I'm here, I hope not. Several fun facts now, you know,
thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show.

comes your way courtesy offmintervention dot com. Question for a
Heidi Stats show than on average, we hang on to
these for an average of twelve years. Not us, Nope, longer.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
No.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Oh, we've had some of these where we've had it
for maybe a month or less. Car No, a sofa
a couch.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
One of my favorite sofas ever was the Monomega sofa
for a week.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Awesome, but it was white. Took up the entire n
like the white.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
It was basically, this is our sofa room. It was

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Now some weird news brought to you by Weird Gift
of the Day dot com. The latest ski trend is
going the wrong way. Yeah, uphill skiing. It's a process
of a ski hill.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
I cannot even imagine wanting to do that at all.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
The side of trail wearing skis. It's booming in the
US and ski resorts. Why well, it's attracting skiers in
search of a good workout with some added bonus of
fresh air, fresh tracks, and on mountain, on mountain camaraderie. Yeah,
because you're helping each other. Hey, did you get hurt too?
So maybe we should quit trying to ski up a hill.

(17:25):
At some ski resorts, uphill skiing access is allowed only
before and after regular operating hours, while others allow it
during operating hours. Proponents of the practice say it not
only provides a great workout, it is fun and provides
a sense of accomplishment. So yeah, I think that seems weird.
You know what is also fun walking the wrong way

(17:46):
on an escalator. He's just in one place. You just walk, walk, walk,
walk walk. It's kind of the same idea, really, and
you look just as dumb doing it.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
So there weird news brought to you by Weird Gift
of the Day dot Com. Time now for the list
brought to you by Chase case Medical dot com. Restaurant hacks,
Day one of two. Heidi, I got to two days
worth of stuff. I put all of it in the
show notes today and I'll share it all tomorrow. But
these are things that the BuzzFeed community they were asking

(18:16):
for hacks to save money when you're going out to
eat at a restaurant. Here are some of the best
and most creative things people said that could save a
buck or two. Are you ready for this?

Speaker 2 (18:24):
I am ready.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
This one says I'm a big fan of ordering from
a place that gives larger portions that I know will
leave me with leftovers. I spend like eighteen dollars on
these meals, but then I get like three meals out
of them.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Okay, that's a good idea.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Yeah, but here's the thing. Make sure you only you
gotta stop.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
That's just it, because you miserable.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
I would I've done exactly that. Yes, another one here.
My husband and I often get sampler platters of things
and then split them. A well known Italian place, they
have one entree that is essentially three smaller entrees. Okay,
it's another kind of the same idea. Another one. I
hardly ever drink water with meals at home, but at restaurants,
all I ever do is get water. I can't justify
paying that much for a soda or you know, whatever,

(19:05):
and then last one that will do today. All of
these are in the show notes us is don't ever
get alcohol. So yeah, Heidie just rolled her eyes at me.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
No at a restaurant, I do it is.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I didn't add that one. I do have this entire
list and I'll go through the rest of them tomorrow.
It's in the show notes for today at John and
Heidishow dot com.

Time out for the Quote of the Day It comes
your way courtesy of Radio Savings dot Com. Or Quote
Today is from Irma. She says, when my kids become
wild and unruly, I use a nice safe playpen, and
when they're finished, I climb out adorable, so clever That
is your quote of the day. It comes your way.

(20:14):
Courtesy of Radio Savings dot com. This portion of the

it's true. Go to your local radio station and ask
them to start carrying the John and Heidi Show. Here's
the best part. They can carry the show for free.
They play a couple commercials, but it doesn't cost them

(20:35):
anything every month. So if you know a radio station
that could use a little bit of help, send them
our way. Send them to Johnandeidishow dot com. Again, Johndeidishow

in your community. Then you could listen to the podcast
and listen to us on the radio. Judy, we always

(20:56):
like to wrap things up around here with good news,
and I think this is good news. It comes your way.
Courtesy of Genesis Goldra dot com. This story is from
San Antonio, Texas. For eighty five cancer patients in San Antonio,
Saturday was not just about treatments, it was about transformation.
Thanks to a heartwarming partnership between Texas Oncology and a

(21:17):
nonprofit Angels Sin Fronterra's Angels Without Borders is what that is, Okay.
These women received makeovers and a fresh head of hair,
giving them a renewed sense of confidence and joy says.
I'm feeling wonderful. I'm feeling very pampered, said Letitia, one
of the people there. It was a recipient. I think
that I have some life in me after a very

(21:38):
long time. Angels Without Borders, founded by a cancer survivor herself,
Terry Castello, collects donated wigs and makeup kits to give
the cancer patients, ensuring that beauty and dignity remain part
of their journey. The organization distributes about five hundred wigs
every year, helping women feel like themselves again despite the

(21:59):
hardships of their cancer treatment. Medical oncologist doctor Emmeiland Aponte
of Texas Oncology emphasizes the impact of self care on
a patient's well being. It does make a big difference.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
It makes a huge difference.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
They say, just having something to maybe take the focus
out of the cancer diagnosis, help you just feel better
about yourself. It can actually improve how you follow your treatment.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
She explained.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
There's a video on here that shows all kinds of
ladies in this room getting their makeovers and it is
absolutely adorable. If you'd like to see that, I've got
a link to the video and the photos and all
that in the show notes for today at johndeidishow dot com.
