Welcome to the John and Heidie Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Here's John and Heidi. Today is a special day. Heidi,
do you know what today is?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
What is today?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
John? I thought you'd never ask, Hidie. It is Thursday,
the twenty seventh day of February. It is Ansomnia Awareness Day.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I really I am up and down all night long.
It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
So on here Ansomnias. It starts with an A. Is it?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
That's probably a typo.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I'm going to google that to see if that's the
same thing. And while we're doing that, it's also a
Kalua day. Today. It is Polar Bear Day, Protein Day,
Retro Day, Strawberry Day, and no Brainer Day, Big Breakfast Day,
and Pokemon Day. So Ansomnia is a condition characterized by
the completer partial loss of the sense of smell.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Oh so something you cannot know that.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Don't lose any sleepover it. Then you'll have insomnia and ansomnia.
See how horrible would that be? Just about as bad
as that joke. Anyway, Coming up, We've got a Dear
John letter, no joke about that. We'll get to that
coming up here in a bit. Thanks for listening to
the John and Heeidi Show.

Surveys and studies and such brought to you by jascasemedical
dot Com. Tax refunds and how to spend them? Well,
it seems that life happens for many of us. According
to a poll of two thousand adults in the US,
of a seventy seven percent of them say their tax
refund must be spent on necessities. Those include things like rent, groceries,

(01:59):
essential items, credit card debt. But a fortunate eight percent
said they are planning to spend their refund on luxuries
like what Well, thirty seven percent of those lucky people
said they would buy some new clothing. Twenty eight percent
said they would spend their windfall on entertainment, and twenty
six percent see a new phone in their near future.

(02:19):
The average person said they expect to receive a refund
of one thousand, seven hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, that's not us.

Usually we have to pay in we actually do.

Digit Now brought to you by Genesis Goldira dot com. Heidi,
did you know that actor Daniel Radcliffe went through nearly
seventy wands and one hundred and sixty pairs of glasses
during the making of the Harry Potter films. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the production team for the seven films
made forty versions of Salazar's Slytherin's locket, two hundred and
fifty paintings for the marble staircase, nine hundred memory fials

(03:38):
for the cabinet in Dumbledore's office, and two hundred and
ten thousand coins for the bank scene.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
For just their little rough on the props, which I.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Think people just kept taking them home. We don't know everything,
but now we know this now Big screen, Little screen.
Brought to you by Radiosavings dot com. Kate Winslet will
make her direct to oriol debut with Goodbye June, a
family drama that is being produced for Netflix. Along with
directing and producing, she will also star in this film.

(04:09):
Isn't It Weird When They're directing and in their starring end.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Because like that would be tough to do.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
He's gonna say, Okay, I'd like to get a little
bits or a little more of that. And you watch
it and you're like, you really needed a director. So
hopefully she'll do well, and she probably will. Academy Award
nominee and Emmy Award winner Sharon Stone is in negotiations
to join the cast of HBO series Euphoria for season three.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
I haven't seen her in anything in agantastic.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Super excited about all that. And Mindy Kayling was honored
with the twenty eight hundredth star on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame. Oh okay, she's just twenty four. Did you
know that? No, take that basket. When she was twenty four,
that's when she joined the staff of the office. That
makes a lot more sense. I should read these things

(04:55):
ahead of time. That would be nice. Big Screen Little Screen,

Now your scoop of the Day comes your way courtesy
of Jascasemedical dot Com. Recent story in Bloomberg BusinessWeek detailed
how some breakfast staples like eggs and butter and cottage
cheese are back. By that, they mean those items have
regained popularity with the public after at one point being
out of favor. But you know what breakfast staple might

(05:53):
never come back, Heidi, what's that? Orange juice?

Speaker 6 (05:57):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, Consumption in the United States of orange juice is
down by more than half since the nineteen nineties. You
probably wonder why, don't you?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Why is that?

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Well, the experts say there's a number of reasons that
oj may never be as popular as it once was.
Amongst these reasons, Heidi, nutrition, More consumers have grown leery
of how much sugar they're consuming. Prices. The cost of
both bottles of OJ and frozen concentrate have spiked in years. Meanwhile,

(06:27):
bottles have also been victimized of a thing called shrink flation,
and they're saying that that's probably not going to get
a whole lot better. And storms and disease, hurricanes and
diseases called like citrus greening. They've taken their toll on
many of the Florida's storied orange groves. So the good
news is that brands like Minute Made and Tropicana are

(06:48):
experimenting with new blends, so pretty soon maybe you'll see,
you know. And then when people come up with something new,
that's when people are like, oh, I got it. Got
to try that new thing, you know, because it's new.
It's new and improved, but it's new. If you'd like
to read more of that, I've got the entire story
in the show notes for today at John anddtheidishow dot com.

And it's time right now for dear dollars. All right,
this will be an interesting one to see what Heidi
has to say on this because it's from a mother's perspective. Okay,
I don't know if you know this. I'm not a mother,
but I am married to one that is you. So
let's see what you have to say about this. Dear John,

(07:59):
I have a six year old son and I'm not
with his father anymore. Father is engaged to be remarried
my son again, keep in mind as six. Okay, we'll
still live with me, but we have a good relationship
and he'll spend time with them. I just discovered that
he bought one of those motherhood pendants as an engagement
gift for his fiance. It has her photo on one

(08:20):
side and my son on the other side. She's showing
it off on Instagram as if it's her child. Mm,
that's my son, not hers. The father told me relax.
We want to show him that she loves him and
sees him as part of her family. We want him
to feel like he has two mothers. Well, that doesn't work. Yes,
the other woman is good with my son, but wearing

(08:40):
a motherhood pendant and positioning her as a second mother,
that's overstepping her bounds, right signed, real mama. I can
see both sides of this, but I'm going to step
back for a moment.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I would have a huge problem with that as a mom,
huge problem with that.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
I would what should they hm? This is called John
treading lightly.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
I mean, obviously you want her to be good to him,
but you know, but wearing a motherhood pendant when she's
not even the mother yet, they're not even married yet.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Such a thing as a step motherhood pendant probably not,
But what is the point.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
It's not her child and that doesn't mean anything to
that kid if she's wearing that necklace. This was I
feel like done out of spite.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I don't know, so it'll be interesting to see what
others have to say. I want to remind you you
can chime in as well, Facebook dot com, slash John
and Heidi Show. I want to turn the tables for
just a moment here and again, this is a six
year old son, and the father is getting remarried and
the new mother is where the mother of this child

(09:42):
is having an issue. Now, let's just pretend for a
moment that it's her getting remarried. It's the lady getting
remarried and she's got a new man in her life.
Would she have an issue with this new man in
her life treating this little boy like his own.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
No, but she's probably not. And to give him a
watch that says, hey, you're my father on it, I mean,
that's you know what I mean that I believe is
just crossing the line.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
And I understand. I see. And again, it'll be interesting
to see what We've got some amazing people who chime in,
amazing listeners that chime in with advice. You guys, I
want to just say, your advice is way better than
mine all the time. It's way better than Heidi's most
of the time. That's not true. You've clenched your fist
over there. I have watched my ground over No, their

(10:32):
advice is always so good. But here's the thing that
I would say, I don't think you can have too
many positive role models in a child's life.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
I agree with you there. I'm not saying that this
lady needs to bow out. I'm saying that she needs
to back up.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
There is one mom and there is one dad. But
if mom really there's.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
One mother and one father. Anybody can be a mom,
anybody can be a dad, but the mother to have
a motherhood, Yeah, that that is the mother this lady.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
I don't know this lady. I'm sure she's lovely, but
I am asking is why I let you go first,
because I want to see just how wrong I was
gonna be over here.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
You were gonna say I have no problem with this,
that she should.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
I'm saying I understand where there's an issue, but I
want to just share. You know, twenty five years ago,
I know this guy who married a single mother. His
name was me, and that single mother was you and
our son. I've never called him my step son, he's
my son. He called me dad from you know. I
wasn't like when we first met, but very early on,

(11:37):
as a matter of fact, it almost made me uncomfortable.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
I was like, eh, but our son had an absent father.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
That's that's very different. That is different.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
That's very different.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
But I will tell you I've never treated him as
anything but my son. I've never called him anything but
my son. As a matter of fact. When I've had
people find out that he's my steps on, they're like, oh,
he's not your son, I'm like, he is, he is
my son. He's yeah, I've never you know. But so
I'm maybe I'm.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Looking at you adopted him, so you bought him.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I bought him, I own I'm looking at this from
a different perspective maybe, But I would love to see
what your perspective is. Yeah, you you're the one listening.
You have a perspective on this. Maybe if this is
something that you've dealt with on this side or on
that side, I'd love to see what you You.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Know, it would be one thing if five years down
the road, after they've been married five years she gets
something like that, But to get something when she's fairly
new in the picture, it feels to me like this
was doping to irritate.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Could be You can chime in with your advice at

Fun fact for you, Heidi walking uses a total of
two hundred muscles with every step you take.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Wow, that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
You ever have one of those that sore? You could
definitely feel. Fun fact for your head. The crossed bones
on a pirate flag are human thigh bones. Do you
ever wonder what those are?

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Fun fact for bees actually do have knees, and they
are the bees knees? Really yeah. Fun fact for a
heading In Japan, Domino's tested pizza delivery via reindeer in
twenty sixty. They didn't do that for long. Can you
even imagine? Can I would.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Probably order if I knew a reindeer was coming?

Speaker 2 (13:43):

it requires seven to eight trees to provide enough oxygen
for one person each year. Wow Tree for your several
fun facts. Now you know, Thank you for listening to

Now some weird news brought to you by Weird Gift
of the Day dot com. A man who accidentally threw
away a computer hard drive wants to buy the entire
landfill where he thinks that it is because underneath layers
of garbage that hard drive contains the key to eight
hundred million dollars in bitcoin.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Kind of a big deal. James Howell of Wales accidentally
disposed of the drive in twenty thirteen. He wrote recently
on Acts that after years of battling local authorities to
retrieve it, he's considering purchasing the landfill funding secured. He
didn't say who was providing the funding, but a British
High Court judge dismissed his attempt to force the local

(16:23):
council to allow him in to search the landfill. Howell's
accidentally throughout the hard drive when he was cleaning his house,
thinking it was a blank drive that contained no data.
Since then, the value of bitcoin on his drive is
loaded onto the hard drive. There's like a key on there. Anyway.
Skyrocketed from nine million to almost eight hundred million as

(16:44):
prices of cryptocurrency of sword in recent years. So yeah,
I remember, remember one time I lost a dollar in
the laundry. Oh, I'll never recover from this, and this
guy's eight hundred million dollars. The news brought to you

I'm sure your face is the issue. Oh what's the

took no time at all. Oh man, things overheard at
the DMV. It can't be a good sign that they
just ran out of numbers. Can I use a selfie
for my photo? Actually, that'd be kind of cool. Things
overheard at the DMV. I'll need to see three proofs
of address, a blood test, an exorcism? How about this?

(17:53):
Things that you over here at the DMV. See this
furniture we made that in prison, and then I'll I'll
tell you the last one. You can see the whole
list if you want to. I'm skipping to the end.

I r a dot com Time Now for the quote
of the day, It comes your way courtesy of Radiosavings

the other night I ate at a really nice family restaurant.
Every table had an argument going on. I've actually been
I loved him.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
I used to listen to him all that.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
He was such a funny comedian. And the thing that's interesting,
when he was a younger comic, he always wore a
tie and a suit, and he was very neat and tidy,
and he was not he was a clean comic. And
then as he got older, he grew his hair out,
he grew a beard. He got to the point where
it wasn't quite as you know, family friendly. George Carlin.

(20:03):
is good news. Comes your way courtesy of Genesis Goldira
dot com. Miracle in the Mountains A snowmobiler found alive
after avalanche buries him for over an hour, Which comes
gos Yeah from Colorado snowmobiler there in the Veil Pass
recreational area. He's lucky to be alive after being buried
in an avalanche for over an hour. Thanks to the

(20:25):
rapid response team from Summit County at Rescue Group and
their skilled search dogs, the man was found conscious and breathing.
And that is a rare and miraculous survival story. February seventeenth,
two men were snowmobiling in the Shrine Bowl area, accidentally
triggering avalanche. One rider was completely buried, his friend was not.

(20:47):
He was able to call nine one one and he
started searching for and right away. Yeah, imagine if he
would have been there alone. Twenty seven rescuers and four
dogs and they were able to find him. It was
a little over an hour later. They thought they saw
like just a bag on the ground. A guy picked
up this thing and was like tugging on it, and
it was his avalanche air bag. So apparently that's something

(21:09):
we put on that helps people find you. So yeah,
that's pretty cool. I've not heard of that because I'm
not a skier or I don't have an air bag.
I do have a feedbag. I strapped that on watching
TV sometimes. If you'd like to read this full story,
