Anthony Perkins. Oz has been in a bunch of great
movies and he's now directing movies. He's got one in
theaters now called The Monkey, based on a short story
by Stephen King.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
It's all happening on the Friday edition of The John
and Heidi Show.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Welcome to the John and Heidi Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Here's John and Heidi. It's it's Friday, the seventh day
of March. Heidi, I am so excited. Are you excited
to be here?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I'm so excited?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Friday, official beginning of the weekend. And Heidi's gonna tell
us a good reason to party here in a little bit.
But first I'm gonna tell you who I'll be chatting
with later in the program. Oz Perkins. Yeah, Anthony Perkins
is his dad. He is an actor. He's been in
a bunch of movies. He's also a director and a
producer and a writer, and I don't know he does.

(00:54):
And he's got a movie that's in theaters, has done
really well. It's called The Monkey. Yeah, that's his movie.
We're gonna chat with all about that movie and much
more coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:02):

Time now for today's reason to party, Heidi, what do
you have for today?

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Today is dress in blue day?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Hey, look at that which I'm doing? Yeah, I accidentally did,
and I found.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
A great cocktail to pair along with it is called
a blue Comakazi.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh that sounds interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
And it looks amazing. It's got lime juice, blue Caraco vodka,
and it is very very blue. So today, as you're
celebrating dressed in blue day, co pair it with your
blue cocktail.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I do have a link to that recipe in the

King only sixty nine ninety eight. They sell fast, so

Just go to MyPillow dot com and use promo code

you want to dance, you're not alone. In fact, according

(02:42):
to science, your body is hardwired to dance, even if
you don't like music. The connection between music and movement
runs deep in your human culture, and that natural urge
to move to the rhythm of the music, whether it's
tapping your foot or you know, whatever it is shaking
on a dance floor, it's what scientists call groove. That's
a scientist. According to a new study from Concordia University

(03:06):
in Montreal. Even those who don't particularly enjoy music, that's
a condition, by the way, called musical and holdinya. I'm
sure I got that wrong. They feel that instinct to
urge like this dance thing, this groove thing. They still
have it even if they don't like music. So for
those people, their enjoyment of rhythmic music appears to come
entirely from the urge to move while others have a

(03:29):
bunch of pleasure that comes from both the movement and
the actual music itself. So I see what I'm saying
is if we crank up the music, you can dance
and you can say, hey, science, leave me alone. Surveys
and studies and such. On the John and Heidi Show.

is finally ready for a breather. The news veteran plans
to step away early this summer from anchor duties on
the NBC Nightly News. He's been there since twenty fifteen,
so ten years in that position. After that, he plans

(04:33):
to devote himself fully to NBC's Dateline. He's been there
since twenty eleven, so that's kind of interesting. And John
Berenthal will return as the Punisher and Daredevil born again,
and you don't have to wait too long to see
him after that because following that, he's got another project
in the works as well. So that's good. It's good.

a wombat has feces that is shaped in cubes?

Speaker 1 (05:51):
It did not know.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Known for being adorably cute, the wombat is known for
producing around eighty to one hundred cube pieces of excrement
each night, and nobody knew why, but it's cube shaped.
In twenty eighteen, researchers found the Australian animals and testines
are made up of stretchy and some stiff sections that
creates cubing during the digestive process. So they figured it

(06:13):
out They're like, that's the problem right there.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
That is fascinating.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, we don't know everything, but now we know this.

Speaker 1 (06:18):

Time out for the joke of the day. As I
hand things over to Heidi and I sit here nervously
to see if I need to laugh or if I
need to cry? What do you have for us today?
I was at the.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Park one day when another mother sat down beside me
and asked which one of yours? I said, I haven't
decided yet.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Oh, that's a bad idea. Don't ever do that. Yikes.

(07:44):
six SeaWorld employees were honored by the Red Cross for
saving a coworker's life. That's really cool. It is very cool. Yeah,
Heidi saves my life every single day, one way or another.
You saved my life.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Do right.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
You don't even know it, but you just do. You
just do. And here's something that you probably ever thought
would come back in style. I'm actually super excited about
this story, Heidi, and you'll know why instantly. It's an
item you never thought would come back into style. But
according to reports, young consumers are on the hunt for
vintage fur. Really, why am I excited about.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
This because we have one available? If somebody I was
at a it is a genuine coat, it's.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Like ninety years old. I was at an auction, a
charity auction, and I thought, well, I'll bid on this
to get the bidding on. Nobody bit against me. And
then I came home with his fur and height. He's like,
why did you get that hideous? Well, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
I was like, well, if it's coming back in style, hey.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
It's in the other room right now. Actually, maybe Heidi
will do a fashion show and we'll put that on
the old internet. Anyway, style savvy gen z ers are
flocking to secondhand stores and they're posting their furry fines online.
The rise in popularity of real fur is prompting some
industry experts to predict its return as a fashion staple

(09:02):
after decades of anti fur activism. In fact, Daniel walk
to Heim probably said it wrong, president of the walk
to Hem Furs. He predicts that it'll start showing up
on fashion runways again in a year or two.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I think that's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
A lister spotted in fur foe fur or not who
knows include Jenner sisters Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and Anna Taylor.
Anna Taylor joy A PEDA spokesperson said that even though
this renewed interest is based on vintage or used fur,
they should be just as disgusted at any fur ripped

(09:38):
off the back of an animal end quote. So there
you go.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
It's not like the animals are alive.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
No, and these are vintage furs. They're just you know,
saving them from the dumpster. Right whatever A right, Moving
on scoop of the day on the John and Heidi.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Show, safeguard your four oh one k or IRA with

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Thank you so much for listening to the John ed
Heidi so excited to visit with Oz Perkins. We're going
to talk about a movie that's in theaters right now.
It's called The Monkey. This movie has done really really well. Oz.
Thank you for your time today. We appreciate you joining us.
Can you tell me a little more about the movie
The Monkey.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah. The Monkey's based on a short story by Stephen King,
the Great Stephen King, and it's sort of, you know,
the story of brothers who have an absent father and
one day, going through there is sort of stuff his
belongings that he's left behind. They come across a toy
monkey with a key in this back. They turn and

(11:00):
the key, not knowing any better, the thing plays the
drums and bad stuff happens, and it really sends their life,
sends their life into a tail spin. They grow up
as sort of alienated, disenfranchised adults who have to kind
of reconcile their relationship while dealing with this terrible thing.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
And not based on a true story, I hope, as.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Far as I know, not as far as I know,
But you know, it's a weird world it is.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Now you've had a chance to work in front of
the camera and behind the camera. Do you have a
preference Do you like being behind the camera like this one?

Speaker 3 (11:34):
In front of the camera's a nightmare, man. That's why
I don't really do it anymore. Behind the camera is
I think I was minted by the universe to be
behind the camera, and I'm doing my best to stay there.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
And you do such a great job on either side
of the camera. So again, the monkey is the new
project when you're out and about what is the thing
that people bring up to you the most when you're
like just out in the wild.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
It's funny. It used to be Legally Blonde because I
do a part in that movie, which you know, was
a big hit and plays on television constantly and really
connected and people love that movie. So I used to
get a lot of that, and now I'll tell you,
I get a lot of aren't you the long legs guy?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Oh yeah, yeah. And again that's a good thing to
be known for.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I'll take it. Man. That was that was a weird one.
We uh we We enjoyed a really staggering success, very
unexpected with a very weird movie that that strangely people
connected with, especially young people. I was very gratified.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
I love that. And what was it like growing up
in a very famous family with you know, your dad
Anthony Perkins and again a huge, huge star of his own,
and you followed in the footsteps very well.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah, I think you you know, you sort of have
a sort of a fork in the road if your
parent is an iconic energy in a field. You know,
you can kind of stay like, oh, that's not for me,
that's that's too much, or you can say, oh, what
a what a what a boost of kind of inspiration
and and and legacy and maybe maybe I'll try to

(13:00):
kind of do right by it. You think of someone
like Lebron James's son being like, really you want to
try basketball? Huh well, good good? And you know what
he really does because he loves what his father has
brought to the world.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I love that. That is a really good way to
look at it. And again, the genre that you have
really gravitated towards and done so well with the genre
kind of the horror and the dark comedy. Again, this
new film The Monkey is definitely in that genre. Is
there something that really hit What is it that has
drawn you to that genres?

Speaker 3 (13:31):
I mean I think initially it was sort of you know,
following him foot steps, and then as an artist, I
kind of think I just connected to the unlimited potential
of the genre, not only you know, on a very
sort of craven based level in the marketplace, it's the
genre that everybody wants all the time. So there's that

(13:54):
you're giving yourself a little bit of an advantage just
to get your stuff sort of seen. And then on
top of it, it deals with, you know, sort of
the totality of existence. Everything. We don't know everything, we
don't understand everything, we can't see everything. We kind of
worry about, dream about, nightmare about. It's pretty, it's pretty bottomless,
and it allows for a lot of kind of poetry

(14:16):
and expression.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
And I'll tell you, the fans of that genre are
some of the biggest fans out there, aren't they.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
They're crazy. They're crazy in.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
A good way. Let's make sure we.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Say that they want it. They want to be called
crazy by by me or by anybody. But yeah, absolutely,
they're the best. They and they they're so loyal, right
and they and they show up and they're they're committed,
and they know so much about it, and they're so
well versed and they're so intelligent and you can't fool them. Yeah, right,

(14:45):
it's a great challenge to impress a horror audience.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
It is, indeed, and you've done such a good job
of that, and I think you're going to do it
again with the Monkey Osgod Perkins has been our guest.
Thank you so much for your time, sir.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Thanks you for your time, sir. Have a good day.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Absolutely again. The film is called The it's in theaters
right now and it's been kicking some tail over there.
Holy cow. Again our guest today, Oz Perkins, put this
movie on the big screen. It's originally a story from
Stephen King, which we'd talked about in the interview. If
you would like to see a trailer, and if you'd
like to learn more, I've got all of that in
the show notes for today at johnndeidishow dot com. Have

Quote of the day, and our quote today is from
pjo'rourke from the movie All the Trouble in the World.
The quote is, everybody wants to say the Earth, but
nobody wants to help mom do the dishes.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Boy, isn't that the truth? Actually, lately you have been
really good about helping out there.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
I do what I can. You know, I don't need
a pat on the back, but hopefully if you need to,
it's very nice. That is your quote of the day
on the John and Heeidi Show Radio.

Time out for news to me as we hand things
over to Heidie. What's news to you today? Heidi?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Did you know that the surfer term hang ten means
having all ten of your toes over the edge of
the board when you're riding a wave.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Yeah, yeah, you're hanging ten toes.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
I did not know that, and it only really works
on a heavy long board.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Did for the most part.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Yeah, Well, that's news to me too.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
That's also news to me. My pillow is making people

Fun fact for you, Heidie what's that?

Speaker 1 (17:41):
John?

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Cabbage was once considered an aphrodisiac real cabbage. Fun fact
for a hiding what's that? According to mathematicians, there are
one hundred and seventy seven thousand, one hundred and forty
seven ways to tie a tie. I bet we could
add one more to the list because we had a guy.
Sure is not on their list. It was just a

(18:03):
knot and then it was a thing tucked in. It
was interesting. Fun fact for you, Heidi. The gender neutral
word for niece or nephew is. We've said this before.
Do you remember I don't nibbling?

Speaker 1 (18:14):
That's yes, I do.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that?

Speaker 3 (18:17):
John?

Speaker 2 (18:17):
The birthday paradox says, in a group of just twenty
three people, you have a fifty percent chance of having
at least two of them have the same birthday. We
knew that, yeah. And our final fun fact for you, Heidi, John,
in Portugal it is considered rude to write in red ink.
My teachers did not know that. Clearly, get a lot

(18:37):
of red inche as a kid. Several fun facts now
you know. Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Now some weird news and I think this story is
absolutely fascinating. A man whose credit card was stolen and
then used to buy a winning lottery ticket says that
he wants to split the jackpot with the thieves. The
crook broke into Jean David Estelle's car in France, us
his credit card to buy a lottery ticket that turned
out to be a winner worth five hundred thousand euros

(19:33):
that's like five hundred and twenty five thousand US dollars.
French police have not tracked down the perpetrators, despite finding
fingerprints as part of their investigation, and they say they
appear to be homeless. This guy's lawyer says he is
willing to split the cash with the criminals, calling the incident.
Quote a miracle for both the thieves and my client.

(19:54):
End quote.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
So he's saying, come forward, come forward. Split it with yep, yeap.
It's what happens if they don't come forward. Didn't there
nobody gets it. I don't know. That whole thing seems
very weird. But what a story if that all comes together.
I could see a movie based on that. Oh yeah,
that would be That'd be a fascinating movie. Weird news

Heidi Show called Unnecessary Censorship and what are you going
to read today?

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (21:44):
This one makes me so happy. This is called sometimes
people March by Tessa Allen, but today it's called and
sometimes people sometimes Okay, sometimes times sometimes people mm hmm

(22:05):
is something people do together when they want to or
when they.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Think you're way too much. I don't get anything.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
People for many reasons, people for and people they love,
people for the health of their bodies, and they're people
for the freedom to love and and uh huhsed. Sometimes
people carry signs to share their stories of people in

(22:42):
many ways. Sometimes people with their they might with or
with or.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
There's way too much bleeps. I don't I'm not tracking
any of this.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
People with their they by standing up or down or
taking it isn't always easy. Feet get tired, arms get tired,
get tired, sometimes seem too big or but we do

(23:16):
not alone, are stronger together, are louder together. People are
together sometimes from feelings of comes the hope for. Sometimes
start small with a maybe you're together, okay, and together

(23:38):
we find the end.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
That is the end. I am so lost right now.
I have no idea what any of that was. What
is the actual name of that book? Again?

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Sometimes people march.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Okay, yeah, that's not what I was getting at all.
I've got a link to that book in the show
notes for today at johnndtheidishow dot com. My pillow is

Happy time right now for the list. It's the worst
pain ever. What is the worst pain you ever experienced?
Id Ee, can you think of anything?

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Um?

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Probably that pinched nerve that I had that kept.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
My left arm, and more so than childbirth.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Oh yes, really that was horrible.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
So according to Reddit, gallbladder attacks are the worst pain
that one person said they ever had. Said it was
worse than childbirth, chronic pain. People treat chronic pain sufferers
like whiny children, but they say that if you had
this exact same pain for three days, you'd be in capacity.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Gout is another thing that is you've heard that. Passing
Kidney stones is another one that's very very painful. A
slipped disc when people say, oh, yeah, I've had a
sore back myself.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Oh yeah, that's happened to me. That's horrible.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Healing from a skin graft. Oh I bet I couldn't
even imagine consolectomy as an adult. So okay, yeah, I've
never you know, I feel pretty fortunate that I haven't
had most of those things. You know, I don't think
I've had any of those things. I had a hang
now once and that was a bugger. That is the list.
Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
We always like to wrap things up around here with
good news, and I think this is good news. Listen
to this story from Ohio. Quick thinking bus driver rescues
students just in time during a bus fire. Oh my gosh, Yeah,
there's a photo here of the bus completely engulfed in flames.
Potentially dangerous situation turned into quite a testament of preparedness
and quick action from Cleveland Heights bus driver when the

(26:24):
bus caught on fire on the way to a middle school.
Thanks to the swift response of a bus driver, all
fifteen children on board were safely evacuated without injury. The
incident occurred at an intersection where a road. The two
roads came together and a fire ignited behind one of
the rear wheels. I don't exactly know why that happened, anyway,

(26:44):
the bus caught on fire. Another driver came to the
area right away to help the student, like to actually
pick the kids up. But it says that nobody was hurt.
Thank goodness, first and foremost. I can't express how relieved
I am that nobody was hurt, and I'm incredibly grateful
for the quick response from the driver. According to the
person in charge of the district there, she said, I

(27:05):
spoke with the driver today and they credited the annual
bus evacuation drills that drivers do with students.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
I was actually just going to say this that we
used to have to practice fire drills on the side
of the road yep, a couple of times a year.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
I never rode the bus, so I never did that,
so I can't imagine. I guess what I would do
is probably just scream and stay in my seat.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
I know that my bus driver, Pete, would have saved me.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Pete would have.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Oh, Pete would have.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Pete was awesome. Hats off to you, Pete, wherever you
happen to be. And a big hats off to the
bus driver. I'm looking to see if the bus driver's
name is in this story, and I don't think it is,
so just refers to this person as the bus driver.
But a big thank you to the bus driver, whoever
you happen to be. I wonder why they wouldn't have
the bus driver's name. Isn't that weird? It just seems

(27:48):
odd to me. All right, time, say good bye, Hide bye, Heide, goodbye, everybody,
have a wonderful day. You can see this story and
maybe you can find the bus driver's name in the
show now. It's for today at Johndeidishow dot com. Have

it's true. Go to your local radio station and ask

the best part. They can carry the show for free.
