that for us. What is the reason of party this week?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Today is National Peanut Cluster Day? M y who doesn't
love peanut cluster? Well, actually I prefer just chocolate covered peanuts.
And I don't know why. I don't know what the
difference is. I don't like them all clustered together.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Apparently I like an individual.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
But so the drink that I found to pair with
this today, which I think sounds amazing and I will
be making this one for sure, is a chocolate peanut
butter Old Fashion.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh that does sound good.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
It sounds amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Chocolate syrup, peanut butter, whiskey chocolate, or coffee bitters.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
It just sounds phenomenal.

a new survey make you wonder why there's so much
hype about the Academy Awards that was last weekend. Among
(02:48):
the ten best pictures nominated, like the nominees for last weekend,
you know that forty eight percent of adults never saw
a single one.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Of them, right, I'm one of those adults.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Survey of two thousand Americans found that although Hollywood releases
over five hundred movies, at least they did last year,
the average adult only watched three of them. That's isn't
it crazy? Yeah, you might expect. Gen z and millennials
say they watched twice as many as baby boomers. Among
the older generation, forty three percent they didn't see a
single movie last year, not a single one of the
(03:18):
new ones in theaters or streaming, leading the pack among favorites.
For the films that were nominated Wicked, thirty one percent
had watched that. Forty one percent of the people who
saw movies said that it should have won or maybe
it did. I didn't watch that either, a little more
than half fifty four percent said they're more likely to
make the effort to watch a movie after it receives
(03:38):
a nomination or a wins.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Oh not me.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, A lot of the time, I go, that was terrible, Yeah,
what the Academy was thinking? Yeah, and then the good
movies out there, like you know, all the all the
Adam Sandler films they snub. So surveys and studies and such.
Speaker 1 (03:55):

On The John and Heidie Show, a study has found
that pessimistic people actually live longer than optimistic people. Hei
do you are in luck and I am trouble.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
I am not a pessimist. You are very I'm a realist.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
No, No, you're very pessimistic. I'm very optimistic. And I
understand I am too optimistic about so many things. This
is going to be amazing. And he's like, it's going
to be horrible. And then it's somewhere in the middle,
closer to horrible, and he's like, I told you it
was gonna be hard.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Usually right, And I don't say things are going to
be horrible, but I do point out the things this,
this is a problem in your plan, and those are
usually those warnings are usually yes, Well.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
It takes takes both kinds of people that what can
I get you a beer, a wine, a can of
tree sap? Yeah, the last one doesn't seem to be
a likely question, but Canadian producers are hoping that tree
sap will be the next must try trandy drink around
the world. As you know, maple syrup is being is
made by boiling down the sap of maple trees. But
what many people don't know that is you can actually
(08:55):
drink the sap itself, which is called maple water. The
stuff contains two two percent natural sugars, so it's not
nearly as sweet as the syrup. And now a small
number of producers are selling maple water in bottles and
cans and cartons like sap wrap. Is that what that
would be? I don't know what that would be exactly.
(09:15):
They're following a filtering. They filter it first, pasteurize the stuff,
so it goes through that process to purify it. Makers
point out that it is actually a natural drink and
they hope that it can take some of the market
share currently occupied by coconut water. And the taste well,
according to somebody from Maple three, a producer based in
Quebec City, they say people feel like they're drinking the
(09:38):
wild Canadian forest. End quote. Humm, okay, what does a
wild Canadian forest taste like? Tastes like this stuff? You
gotta try some? Well maybe one of these days.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
I probably won't.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah. Scoop of the Day comes your way at this
time on the John and Heidi Show.

Thank you so much for listening to the John and Heeidi.
So excited to visit with Delaney Buffett. And we've got
a new film that's out right now and she is
one of the stars and director of Adult best Friends.
First of all, Delaney, thank you for your time. How
are you today, I'm good.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Thank you for having me on.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Though, excited to chat with you about this. And we've
got this film and it's coming out like right around
the time a spring break when you know people are
going out and having fun and being adult best friends.
And it looks like a really fun film. Tell me
a little bit about adult best friends.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Yeah, with the comedy, and I actually co wrote it
and I postar in it with my adult best friend
in real life, Katie Corwin. So it is a fictional story,
but it's very much rooted in our friendship. And it's
about a woman who gets engaged. She's afraid to tell
her best friends, so she takes her on a trip
to break the news and it goes.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Not as plaits And again, like you said, it's not
based on like an actual story, but inspired by actual events, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
It's inspired by our I think our friendship mostly, and
certainly some of the comedic moments have been you know,
ripped from the headlines of our lives.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
And it looks like a fun film. I bet you
guys had a blast filming this.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, we had a really great time. You know. The
producer was my friend Marie Nikolova, who we you know,
I went to college with, who I had her, I
had my childhood friend Katie, and I had a lot
of my friends who I've made out in California who
are working on it or acting in it. So we
had a blast shooting in Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Actually, I love it. Now, this is not your first film.
You've had a chance to do several fun projects. What
was it that kind of drew you into this life?
Speaker 4 (11:55):
I think, you know, I always loved storytelling, I always
loved writing, and I loved TV. So I wanted to
sort of, you know, write comedy. And I happen to
have an incredibly funny best friend, so and she was,
you know, acting out of college and we decided to
start writing together. And it is very difficult, but we
(12:16):
did a lot of short form work like web series
and short films and stuff, but this is our first
feature length film. So it's incredible to kind of get
to go through that entire process with my friend.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
I love that. And You've been to a bunch of
film festivals with these movies that you're doing, and it
looks like people are just loving the movies. What is
it like when you go to a film festival You
got all these people, have this big party and you're
one of the people that they're honoring. That's going to
be just the coolest feeling ever.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Yeah, it's amazing. Yeah, you know, at the Keys Festival,
they were very time and they gave me an Emerging
Talent Award and I had a really great time. I
love that festival. I love Key West, and I love
all the people that work at that festival. So it's real,
you know, it's it's great and I get to, you know,
to be able to we're not do you know? This
comes out on digital on Amazon and Apple today actually,
(13:05):
but we did not do a traditional theatrical run so
to be able to take it to festivals and do
some special screenings was so fun to just see people
react to it and be in the theater and that
energy specifically with the comedy is just amazing.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Absolutely. Again, the film is called Adult Best Friends. It's
out on digital right now. And how different is that
compared to like when I was growing up, if you
wanted to see a movie, you had to go to
a building up the street with a giant screen and
watch it, you know, there first. And I remember when
they started having like the home box office where you
could like go and rent movies and bring them home.
(13:40):
It was a game changer. Well, now I can click
a button on my remote and I can watch your
movie and you know, never have to have a theater
and get involved. How different is that as a filmmaker
to have that access.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
I think it's great. I think still as a filmmaker,
I think you dream of the big screen and silver screen.
I love going to the movies. I think seeing a
movie is an experience popcorn, the coke, and the candy,
and it's so nostalgic for me, but it is, you know,
a matter of convenience styles. I think it's a great
thing to be able to watch a movie on your
couch on a Sunday and have access to so much.
(14:11):
So it's great for me because I think, you know,
you want as many eyes as possible on a movie,
and we're hoping with this digital release to get that again.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
The film is called Adult best Friends. Our guest today
Delaney Buffett, and I want to say I was a
huge fan of your father. We were so sad when
he passed away. And again, think about the difference he
made in people's life with his music, and now you're
making a difference in people's lives with your movie. So
I think that it's awesome that you're carrying on that tradition.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Thank you. Yeah, I mean I hope to do the
fraction of what he did, maybe, but yes, I think
for me it's important. You know, Katie and I love
to laugh and we want to make people laugh. And
I would love, you know, for this movie to be
a bright light on a you know, on a dreary Sunday,
or maybe you're hungover on your couch and it lifts
you up from that hangover for an hour and twenty
five minutes. So, you know, anything that brings people for
(15:00):
a moment of joy would mean a lot.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
To me with this absolutely again, Delaney Buffett, thank you
so much for your time. Delaney kat thank you so
much for having me Bill. I appreciate it absolutely again.
The new film is called Adult Best Friends. It's streaming now.

from Shirley McClain. She says the best way to get
most husbands to do something is to suggest that perhaps
they're too old to do it and quote. Yeah, Heidi
doesn't really do that. Instead, she's like, I'm going to
call somebody to get this done. I'm like, no, no, no,
I can do this, and then I'm out there working
(16:07):
at it going. I should have just let her call somebody.

likely to die traveling to or from work than if
you were shipped off to our.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
No kidding, I will not be in the office tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
What's that job?
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Because the speed of the Earth's rotation changes over time,
a day in the Age of Dinosaurs was only twenty
three hours long. You know how they know that they
found a fossil watch.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Yeah, I actually knew this. I knew you were good.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I'm pretty sure I used that joke when Yes, you
have fun fact for you a hiding. One of the
asteroids scene in the Empire Strikes Back is an actual potato. Yeah,
so they used a potato as an asteroid. Things were
weird in the seventies. Fun fact for a height I
think that was actually the eighties. I'm sorry. Fun fact
for a Heidie was that John spiders recycle webs by
eating them, So they'll eat them up and then they'll
(18:17):
spin them dressing. Fun fact for a lobster has a
bladder inside of its head. How weird is that?
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (18:24):
And our final fun fact for you, Heidi. At one
point j was slaying for a foolish person. So if

Now, some weird news comes your way at this time
every day, so we've moved some things around. This is
where weird news will be. A drunk driver, well that's
never a good idea, but doing so when you've already
been taken home by police, that's even dumber. Port Moody,
British Columbia man allegedly did just that. Police say an
intoxicated guest at a wedding became agitated after Good Samaritans
(19:37):
took away his car keys to prevent him from driving.
That resulted in a bit of a little ruckus and
nine one one was called. The man was arrested for
breach of peace. Police drove him all the way home,
twenty kilometers to Vancouver. He was expected to stay home
until he could sober up to go get his vehicle,
but then the man made the drunken decision to order
a ride share back to Port modeh, get into his
(19:59):
vehicle with the bear set of keys and drive. The
man was caught at three point fifty am speeding at
more than double the limit, directly in front of the
police department.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
No less, huge mistake.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
He was arrested and faces faces numerous charges. Never ever
drinking driving. It's always a bad idea. Have you heard

This one is for you. What is the second most
(20:53):
popular tattoo? The second most popular tattoo? No, the second
most popular tattoo is a heart. Now, I don't know
if that's accurate because I'm looking online. He didn't say
what the most popular tattoo was, but it says anchors
infinity signs, hearts and roses are the top fore most popular.
But up here another one says butterflies are the most popular,
(21:14):
and another one says dragons and snakes. So I don't
know what to believe, but the second most popular tattoo
according to this is the heart. Alrighty is your question
of the day.

Time out for unnecessary censorship with Heidi Small and your
book today is who What It Is?
Speaker 1 (21:59):
By Oliver Jeffers And it is called Where to Hide
a Star?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
All right? And what are you calling it? In your
unnecessary censored version?
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Where to Hide a all Right? There once was a
boy and together with his two friends he would often play.
The boy mostly did the as he was the only
one who could, so it was the others who the
wasn't very good at and it was always easy to
(22:31):
The penguin had a favorite place where they'd usually end.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Up after the boy had.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
It was a routine they enjoyed until the day the
penguin well and got stuck. The boy needed both hands
to so he placed the.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
You're believing a lot here and.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
The penguin okay where they settled down for. Not until
mid afternoon did they realize was and thinking it must
have started a new game of they set off in
all the usual spots, behind the curtains or under the sofa,
(23:28):
in the cupboard, the box, behind the chair in the shed,
or by the pier, or anywhere.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Sounds like green eggs and ham almost.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
So I'm going to end this one today. We'll finish

We always like to wrap things up around here with
good news, and I think this is good news. It
comes from Idaho. Here's the headline, Heidi. This man closed
his video store except for one customer who needed it
the most. So the last remaining video rental store in
poke Tello, Idaho Video Stop officially closed their doors nobody's
welcome in but one guy, a devoted customer. The magic
(26:07):
of movie rentals will continue for him. Thanks to the
compassion of the store owner, David Kranning, a small section
of films are going to remain available for a very
special reason. For over fifteen years. Christina Kavanaugh, who has
Down syndrome, is mostly nonverbal, but has made renting movies
an essential part of her routine. With Video Stop seizing
(26:27):
rentals and liquidating most of their collection, Christina's mother, Tony,
worried about how the closure would impact her daughter's daily life.
That's when the owner stepped in with a heartfelt solution.
He decided to keep a portion of the store's movies
and dedicate a quiet corner in his adjacent business Quick Stop,
just for this young lady to come in and pick
(26:48):
out movies. This is so great, It's a huge relief,
the mother said. It felt like such a heavy burden
was lifted. Christina has always had a deep connection to
the video rental store, associating which one of her favorite
films that with something in the store. She referred to
Video Stop as Babar. After renting Babar, That's a movie
(27:08):
that she rented there. Another rental store, Great American Video,
was The Beast, because that's where she first got Beauty
and the Beast. When Great American Video closed, she struggled
to understand, why can't I go there anymore? I don't understand. Well,
it wasn't there anymore. So losing this video store would
have been a major disruption in her life. And she said,
I couldn't let that happen. And because of that, this
gentleman understood and he said, I'm going to keep this
(27:30):
section just for this young lady. And I think that
is super cool. Our son, by the way, is a
huge fan of videos. Oh there's a video rental store
in Norfolk, Nebraska that is still open, just barely, and
our son will drive there from where he lives a
few hours away to go to that store and he
buys videos from the guy. Now because he's, you know,
(27:53):
far enough away, I can't rent him. But I think
it's really neat and for people who never had a
chance to experience that, you don't know what you're maning
for sure.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Time to say good bye, Heidi, good bye, Heidi, goobye.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Everybody, have a great day, have a great weekend. Thank you.
