You sounded Canna roof.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah, I'm not great.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
You just think I can? I think I can. Think
I can. You're gonna make it through. We'll get back

Now Today's reason a party with Heidi Small. What do
we have today, Heidi?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Today is coconut tort Day. Yeah, and even though I
don't necessarily feel like celebrating, somebody might. So the paired
cocktail that I found to go with this is a
coconut cream martini and it looks amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Got coconut rum half and half vanilla and then coconut
for garnish along the rim. Oh my gosh, it looks good.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Well, that's nice and you got the link to that
in the show notes for today at John and Heidishow
dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Radio Travelgroup dot com features so many amazing places that
we have personally been to. This month, I want to
feature Panama City Beach, Florida. We stayed at a gorgeous
home right on the beach. This is perfect for business trips.
This is perfect for family getaways. This is perfect for
just a big friends getaway. There are so many bedrooms,

it has a gorgeous view. This is something you have
to check out if you have a big event coming up.
You won't be disappointed. See photos and a link at

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Now surveys and studies and such. You know when you
were a kid, parents would tell you to, you know,
finish eating your food or there's not going to be
any dessert for you. And you're like, I got room
for dessert and not for food. Well that might actually
be accurate, you know, when you thought I got a
little room in there for just dessert but not for food.
Turns out you were right, kind of. Scientists have discovered

(02:25):
the same brain cells that tell us that were full
are also responsible for making us crave sugar retreats. That
means we're genetically wired to reach for cookies and cakes
and caramel and apple pie and all kinds of other stuff,
even when our same brain just told us that we're satisfied,
you're full, and you're like, not anymore, because now you
saw the dessert. German researchers say previously unknown neural circuits

(02:48):
are responsible. So if you're finding yourself polishing off a
tub of cookie dough ice cream after dinner, you can
blame your brain because it's all your brain's fault. Tidy
there you go, Yeah, yeah, that's that's what we're sticking with.
Surveys and studies and such. On the John and Heidie.

Speaker 4 (03:05):

Tyra Banks has addressed the backlash she's received about things

(03:28):
that she said and did on her former reality show,
America's Top Model. I'm sorry, America's Next Top Model. She
had a speech where she just talked about, you know
the fact that you know, things are different now, and
she's not necessarily proud of all the things that it
was a reality show, like you know, the things that
happened on there that's not real life. And a new
companion has entered the Tartists. In the first trailer for

(03:51):
season two of the latest reboot of Doctor Who, Uh,
there's a doctor that's joining another character. I'm reading these names.
I don't know who these people are. They're gonna go
by this person will go by the nurse, okay, and
the doctor tells her there's something already connecting us. So
I know there's some people that are like super excited
about all of this, and I have.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
No a huge, huge fan, And I've.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Got a friend that, like, that's his profile photo on
Facebook is a doctor who One of these days I'd
like to sit down and watch like a few episodes,
but I'm afraid I'll like it, and then I've got
to devote twenty seven years to getting caught up, so

(05:00):
did you know that you're more likely to splurge on
unnecessary items when shopping on a touch screen instead of
a desktop computer.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I guess I've never paid much attention.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
University of British Columbia study three hundred students. They took
part in three different experiments. They examined their online purchasing habits.
They discovered when they were on a phone or some
sort of touch screen, they were more likely to dig
into their wallets than they had to know click at
a click on a typewriter or a keyboard. A study
author said, my advice for consumers who want to save
a bit of money is to put away the smartphone

(05:30):
when you have the urge to spend on guilty pleasures.
So there you go, Holster, that bad boy. We don't
know everything, but now we know this now. Your joke
of the day from Heidi Small. What do you have? Heidi?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Okay? A man walks into a forest and tries to
cut down a talking tree. You can't cut me down.
The tree complaints, I'm a talking tree. The man responds,
you may be a talking tree, but you will dialogue, dialogue.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
I see what you did there. The joke of the
day from Heidi Small. That's h e. I D just kidding.
I don't think you'll get any complaints on this one.
Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Now your scoop of the day comes your way at
this time with a couple of stories. Today, huge network
of underground spy tunnels dating back to World War Two
could become London's next big tourist attraction.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
That would be very cool. I would save this.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Secret subterranean passages, which provided inspiration for the James Bond novels,
cover an area of a eighty six thousand square feet.
That's a lot. They're set to open to the public
in twenty twenty eight as part of a museum and
a memorial all kind of connected together, part art gallery
and cultural hub as well as a nightlife hotspot what

(07:15):
they're calling the world's deepest bar. Up to three million
visitors per year are expected to come to the underground attraction.
How do they know? It hasn't even open it exactly?
How many people are coming? Three million?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Okay, Well we better tidy up then. Originally constructed way
back in the nineteen forties. They're going to do the
construction to turn it into this thing starting next year,
and it is going to cost they estimate one hundred
and forty nine million dollars. So there's a lot going on.
But from nineteen forty to nineteen forty two it was
an air raid shelter to provide protection from Nazi bombings

(07:52):
that were happening at the time. The tunnels were never
needed as intended, but were later repurposed as headquarters for
a division of the MI six British intelligence agency. While
serving in this function, they provided inspiration for a young
man by the name of Ian Fleming who worked there
in nineteen forty four and then later wrote a book
called One or of the book was called but the

(08:13):
main character was James Bond Double seven. So these tunnels
inspired James Bond Heidi, that's super cool and a budget
friendly drink giant known for their bubble tea offerings have
overtaken McDonald's and Starbucks as the world's largest food and
beverage chain by quite a few stores.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Really.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
China based Mix You bing Chang, which means honey snow
iceed City, now has forty five thousand outlets worldwide, with
their signature drinks price the equivalent of like thirty cents
in the United States, so it'd be like thirty cents
for a drink there and their snowman mascot. Mixed You
founder said his strategy is simple, let people around the

(08:51):
world eat well and drink well for just two American dollars.
So they're trying to keep everything from thirty cents to
like a dollar twenty drink.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
So I've never even heard of them.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Nor have I We'll have to check it out. Scoop
of the Day on The John and Heidie.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Show, The jonant Heidie Show.

Time now for Dear John letters. All right, I got

(09:29):
another Dear John letter here for you. This one's from
Mama No's Best. Are you ready, Heidi?

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (09:34):
All right? Here we go. Dear John, My twenty year
old daughter wants to live with us until she finishes college.
She says she is saving for a new house when
she leaves school and promises to pay her bills, but
is trying to avoid paying rent right now. My husband
thinks it's a great idea. He says it's brilliant and
is excited to have his little girl home again. I

(09:55):
say she's a grown adult, and adults leave the nest
to figure things out independently. How should I tell her
and him how I feel without it making without making
it seem insensitive? Signed Mama No's Best.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
I think right now, especially with inflation and all of that,
I think it's a really good idea to have her
in your home. Yeah, and if you want to teach
her some responsibility, give her a small amount of rent
that she has to pay every month, or at least
make her cover You know you're going to pay the
electric bill, or you're going to pay the internet or whatever.
Give her some responsibilities. But it is a dangerous world

(10:31):
right now. It's expensive world. Yeah, and until things get
kind of rained back in, it's probably a good idea
to have her nice and clothes.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
And one of the things that I would suggest, again
this is John speaking, not Heidi, one of the things
that I would suggest is charge her rent. And if
you guys are in a position to not charge her rent,
but it sounds like your husband feels that way that
you think you're in a position to not, then take
all of the money that she's giving you over the
course of the next couple of years and.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Put that in in a savings a savings account, put
it in an investment that's for you.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Don't even need to tell her you're doing that, Like,
just let her know that, Hey, I want you to
understand responsibilities.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
We're not going to charge you much.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
It's not gonna be but we're gonna pay You're gonna
pay this much. That's a little bit of wiggle room.
We can work with you. But we want you to
just get used to doing this and encourage her to
save some money too. If she's saving money for what
she wants to do in the future. That's a good thing.
But if you're secretly surprising her with you know, because

(11:34):
if it's a couple of years, and if it's you know,
however much a month for a couple of years, if
you're if you're saying, hey, congrats, you're out on your own,
but here's you know, a couple thousand dollars whatever that
turns into. It'd probably several thousands.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, it's going to be a good change.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
That could be a really really nice way for both
of you and your husband to win. And then I
would tell your husband, Okay, we cannot let her know
that this money is going to go to her someday.
Don't let her know that. Yeah, let her think that
that she's paying this, because now it's a responsibility. Because
if she does know that she's getting all this, I

(12:10):
think that would stop her from saving anything extra. Gre
But this would be like a way for you to
save and for her to save, and then you know,
everybody's got money saved. Wouldn't that be great? It's all good.
And I got to say, our children are grown and gone.
Our kids both grew up and moved on for some reasons,
like they you know, don't want to stay with mom
and dad forever. But our son came back and lived

(12:33):
with us for a short while, and it was wonderful
to have him back. And then we're so excited for
him when he got on his feet and is doing
his own thing and he's kicking some tail and doing great.
And then our daughter same thing. She moved out, but
then she moved back in for a short while to
kind of get things ready and now has a home purchased,
and you know, very happy for her. And during the
time that they're with us, I enjoyed every second of it.

(12:56):
You know. It's not that I would want them to
live with us forever and ever and ever, because they're
adults and you know, now it's time for them to
live their own lives. But as empty nesters, I kind
of miss having the kids around.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
You know.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
I love it when they come to visit.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Oh, I love it when they come to visit, but
I wouldn't want them to me.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
You love it more when they leave. Yeah, get to
see you don't forget to lock the door. I'm going
to bed now. Yeah, all right, anything else that you
think we need to say from.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Banks, I think that was great advice. Your job us.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Yeah, Wow, we are so good. We impress us so much.
If you would like us to impress you with our
fabulous answers, you could chime in with your own Dear
John letter. We do Dear John letters every Thursday, and well,
we were changing things up at the beginning of March.
It's almost got chopped off the chopping block, So if

(13:44):
you would like us to continue doing this, If you've
got a Dear John letter there's like floating around in
your brain, shoot that into us. We always keep it anonymous.
Nobody will know what's from you. If it's something that's
super specific and it's going to be obvious that it's you,
we can change things up a little bit. Except done
that for people before where they're like, well, I don't
want my boss to know that it's me, and I'm
the only one that does this. So yeah, if you've

(14:05):
got issues where you're concerned about somebody knowing it's you,
let me know. We'll find a way. But you can
submit that at the bottom of the page at John
Anddeidishow dot com or on our Facebook page, where you
can also chime in with this week's Dear John letter.

from Dumb and Dumber the movie. Harry says, according to
the map, we've only gone for it.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
That's one of my favorite movies is That's.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
A great movie. And the thing that's really cool, you
know that when they had Jim Carrey cass to do that,
they had a bunch of other people that were gonna
be the sidekick, and instead they ended up with Jeff Daniels.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Oh, Jeff Daniels was perfect.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Jeff Daniels manager didn't want him to do it, Like
people were saying, why are you doing this? This is
gonna be horrible, and it turned into like one of
the best movies he's ever done. So that is your
quote of the day on The John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Small high heels were originally men's shoes. This we already
knew because we've talked about that before. But did you
know that they were originally worn by men of the
Persian calvary to help them keep their feet in the
strips when they rode their horses.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Oh, I didn't know that. That's really cool.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
That wouldn't be very intimidating when it's seeing a whole
cavalry of people riding up to you. We're in stilettos.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
I don't think they were still they were just raised heels,
and there were some people like Napoleon that like those
kind of made them a little bit taller. Yeah, well
it's news to me, and it's news to me.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Radio Travelgroup dot com features so many amazing places that
we have personally been to. This month, I want to
feature Panama City Beach, Florida. We stayed at a gorgeous
home right on the beach. This is perfect for business trips.
This is perfect for family getaways. This is perfect for

It has a gorgeous view. This is something you have

You won't be disappointed. See photos and a link at

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that John? If you
start counting from zero, your lips will not touch until
you reach one million real Yeah, all of the others.
Your lips don't touch together when you're saying those. Well
they could, but you'd be saying the words wrong.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Fun fact for over ninety percent of all fish are
caught in the Northern Hemisphere. That's pretty cool. It's a
good place to go fishing. Apparently that would.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Hurt what would what would hurt getting caught in the
Northern Hemisphere?

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I don't even know what that means, but okay, moving
right along. Fun fact for a hiding. A dolphin's blowhole
is an evolved nose that moved upward to the top
of their head.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Oh that's funny.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, that's kind of cool. Fun fact for a hiding.
People see better when they're scared. Oh I could see
that because like your senses.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
And our final fun fact for you, heiding's putting sugar
on a cut will make it heal faster.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Really.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, that's good to know, going back to that hole.
Seeing better in the dark when you're scared. You know,
that's like if somebody's lurking in the shadows and watching
you grill.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Right, just you know, a random example.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Who could do something like the dark late at night
recently happened. Several fun facts now, you know, thanks for
listening to The John and Heidi Show. Now some weird
news on the John and Heidi Show. Of course, a
typical week for an NFL player involves things like going
to the gym for hours intensive sessions, going over like
game video to see the plays, practicing every single day.

(18:18):
But did you know that chess is on the list
for many of them as well? Chess? You heard that right,
Chess proponents say that game, which like football, requires total
mental buy in, will sharpen the players acuity and their
split second decision making seals that come in handy on
the field as well. Players also say that chess helps

(18:40):
them keep them on their toes mentally forcing them to
shift their strategy instantly. The game has become so popular
among NFL players that each year, former and current players
face off in a chess tournament called the Blitz Champions,
where the winner picks their favorite charity to receive the
prize money of thirty thousand dollars. Last year's victor was

(19:04):
Kansas City Chief Justin Reid, so that's really cool. We
bought a chessboard after we watched Queen's Gimmett, and then
we never learned to fay, so we're not smart. Weird
news on the John and Heidie Show, My pillow is

(19:49):
the day. And I'm gonna give this one to Heidi.
How about you?

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I had so many other options, but Heidi, before you
buy this, it's been touched by at least twenty five
other people.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
What is it a greeting car?

Speaker 2 (20:01):
It is a greeting card. Did I forgot? I hadn't
asked you yet and I said something about it? Oh,
never mind, forget I said that. I didn't say card.
I didn't say anything about it. But that's a lot
of people putting their mits all over a greeting card,
isn't that? It is twenty five people touch them before
you buy them. Question of the Day on The John
and Heidie.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
Show, The Heidie Show.

of made me laugh. They were really funny. Help wanted
add titles? Okay, So I found a few of them,
and I'll read something today. I read some more of tomorrow.
I'm just not feeling well enough to read a whole book.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
I got you.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
I'm good. So now, hiring cashier cannot look like skeletor

previous skeleton. Their previous uh, cashier looks like hilarious wanted
Scubert Scuba diving instructor, No experience necessary. Okay, yeah, isn't

that funny? That is wild recruitment coordinator. You will assist
in the day to day ruining of the team.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Oh man, that's.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
An unfortunate typo. Right, yeah, it very unfortunate typo. I
think running, yes, I think so it is good, and
then I'll read one more for today. Our lady of
Fatima Preschool is in need of a part time two
year old teacher.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
So how many teachers are that are two years old?
That is fun? Thank you for doing that, Heidi.

wrap things up around here with good news, and I
think this is good news and it comes from California.

(23:32):
Good news story from Alta, Dina, California. Steve Carell surprises
wildfire impacted teens by covering their prom tickets. Oh that's
kind of cool. Hollywood star Steve Carell made prom night
a whole lot sweeter for seniors in Altadena. The beloved
actor teamed up with Alice's Kids of Virginia based charity
to cover the cost of prom tickets for six local

(23:52):
high schools like all of the kids helping the teenagers
there who were impacted by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
Carrel announced the heartwarming gesture and a video message streamed
to all of the seniors with signature charm, He declared, attention, attention,
all seniors, this is Steve Carell with a very special announcement.
I work with a wonderful charity based out of Virginia

(24:14):
called Alice's Kids. And Alice's Kids wanted me to let
you know that they will be paying for all of
your prompt tickets. I love that. For fans of the Office,
this moment is particularly wholesome a little ironic. In the
show's infamous Scott Totts episode, Carrel's character Michael Scott promised
to pay for students college tuition, only to backtrack years

(24:36):
later because then it was like a real thing. Remember
when he and He's like, I didn't realize I was
gonna actually have to pay, So very very cool. I
think that's I think.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
It's a great thing. I mean, the wildfires were devastating
for so many people, but you forget the impact that
it has on the kids as well.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Yeah, then they're regular just a little bit of a.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Normal just a great way to yeah, to just give
them a little bit of their lives back. I think
it's wonderful.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I think it's wonderful as well. That's why it is
today's good News time saying goodbye Heidi.
