mixed in with it.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Now surveys and studies and such. Traditionally, smoke exposure from
wildfire spells disaster for vineyards, but the aftermath of this
year's California fires, according to a new study, found that
wine drinkers are not only okay with the characteristics of
that smoke that impacted it made on the wine, but
some are actually enjoying it.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Especially I would enjoy a smoky.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, especially when they know that they're drinking wine that
survived through a fire. Right the smoke from the wildfires
drifted through these vineyards, The grapes absorbed that, and there's
compounds that actually helped create a smoky taste in the
resulting wine, ranging from subtle to intense, sometimes with an
ashy aftertaste that doesn't sound good. Researchers conducted the research
(02:55):
in New Zealand. They found that more forgiveness for the
so called smoky wines that winemakers make when it is
connected to something like a wildcare I think a lot
of people are saying, you know, they almost lost everything,
so I'll gladly give them a little bit of a
shot here, and they're saying that they should lean into
that and market to the fact that, hey, this was
one of the survivors of the wildfire of whatever year,
(03:16):
and then if you have some that you know was
not impacted, you can market that a little bit differently.
So cool idea surveys and studies and such on The
John and Heidie Show.

did you know according to a study, humans have twenty
seven distinct emotional states? No, sometimes I feel like we
(05:30):
go through all of those. Researchers of the University of California,
Berkeley had eight hundred and fifty three men and women
watch short video clips meant to evoke a range of reactions,
hoping to measure the true spectrum of human emotions. Nearly
all participants reacted in a similar manner to any given video.
Then the researchers were able to use this data to
determine that humans have twenty seven distinct categories of emotion. Previously,
(05:53):
they'd only identified six distinct categories. So there's a lot
more going on than we realize. We don't know everything,
but now we know. This time now for the joke
of the day with Heidi Small. What do you have, Heidi?
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Patient says, Oh, doctor, I'm so nervous. This is my
first operation. Doctor said, I totally understand mine too.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I'm even more nervous.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Dak.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
That is not good at all.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
That's horrible.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Now your scoop of the day. Take a listen to
this hidi. About one hundred and fifty people showed up
in rural Pennsylvania last weekend for the Taste of the
Wild Outdoors Dinner in Pine Grove. It is a buffet
style meal held at a local fire hall. They had
all kinds of fair that you might not find anywhere
else but in the wild, things like sting ray casserole,
e bear stew, raccoon and doulay and rabbit kibasa. There
(07:17):
was also roasted gray squirrel bobcat, lomane, wild boar, ham
and coyoteterokee, tariaki on a stick and there was some
mystery meat and afterwards they found out what it was.
It was alligator. For the less adventurous, there was also
a venison and salmon. An organizer of the event, a
guy by the name of Larry. Of course, this guy
(07:37):
named Larry in charge of this. He haded up a
crew of local sportsman to pull off this event. He
said his goal is to encourage anglers, hunters and trappers
to consider new species as food and make full use
of the animals they kill and raise money for youth
outdoor activities. So that's interesting. And foodies in China have
been flocking to funeral homes. Why well, because there's a
(07:57):
delicious noodle dish at this particular one that has gone viral.
The dish found in the Earlong funeral home and the
province of I'm not even going to try that. They
say it caters to funeral home customers. But as people
were talking about how good these noodles are, other people
have shown up as well, some pretending to be mourners.
They began showing up to try this funeral home offers
(08:19):
noodle dishes during breakfast and supper hours, and a worker
said that sometimes lines are so long the diners have
to wait a few hours to get their noodles. The
funeral home has since announced it will allow some members
of the public to eat at their premises, as long
as they don't disturb the actual mourners.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
That was so unfortunately. I'm not fairly certain that we
met one of those at a funeral.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
You're a fund The dude sitting next to me, I
don't think he knew whose funeral was, but he was
talking to me.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
We were cookies at the other one.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
I'm like, I no, I've never been here before. Yeah.
Scoop of the Day on The John and Heidi Show.

(09:12):
and Heidi Show. Excited to visit with Rico Ross. We're
going to talk about Netflix number one series Tyler Perry's
Beauty in Black. Excited to have you on the program.
Let's talk a little bit about this program that you're
on for folks that maybe haven't had a chance to see.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
It yet, right, Yeah, So it's it's a sixteen one
hour drama for Netflix, and we have managed to write
to number one and also not only number one in
the States, but number one globally English speaking TV series.
And that is quite a pleasant surprise. And it's real
(09:46):
because after we finished shooting last season, I took a
vacation to Columbia and the first day I went out
in the street, three police people came up walked up
for me that I thought they were going to ask
me for my passport or something, and they shild healthy
beauty and black selfie. It really is global.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Now.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I bet you probably have people recognize you quite a
bit because this is not your first rodeo at all.
People know you from Aliens, Mission Impossible, the Practice, Babylon Five.
I mean, as I go through this list, there's some
big things on this list already, So I bet you
probably get recognized a lot out And about what is
the thing that people recognize you from the most.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
You know, it really depends on what's out an example,
maybe when the Whitney Houston video Saving All My Love
came out, I was the guy she was saving her
love for. And so right after that video came out,
everybody would would would would recognize me from that video,
and I'd have people from across the street hollering at me, going, hey,
(10:47):
mister Whitney Houston, mister Whitney Houston. It just depends on
what's hot at that particular time. Often people will come
come to me and they'll ask me, you know, do
I go to such and such high school? Because they
recognize my face they just can't put together. And the
two of us will sit there and try and figure
out for a minute, and then we realize that, you know,
we don't know each other at all with two complete strangers.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Well, and the thing that's fun nowadays, like we used
to live in this age of wonder where we would
wonder things, and now, you know, we'll be watching a
movie and I can actually just go onto my phone
and I can type in cast of whatever that movie is.
Then I can scroll down and I can see, Okay,
who who am I looking at here? And I go, oh,
Rico Ross, Oh, yeah, I know I'm from this and
(11:29):
I know him from this, and I know him from this,
But I'll tell you that's kind of got me spoiled
because I can't do that in real life. You'll see
somebody you know out at a restaurant. You're like, who's
that guy? And I can't google it because I'm like,
how do I how do I do that without asking him?
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Without asking?
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Well, a lot of I just get people just looking
at me and smiling. Yeah, I don't know, but they
know that it's familiar and they're just smiling, and it's
it's a cool thing to have where people just look
at you and just smile.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Absolutely, that's that's better than you know them coming over
one to fight years of that'd be way worse. So again,
Netflix series Beauty and Black, and it did really well
the first season and now another season is out right now.
And how many episodes are there in each season of this, Well.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Actually they gave us sixteen one hour episodes for the
first season. They chose to just drop eight of them
because I think they understood that there was going to
be a certain amount of binging going on, and so
they dropped eight and then they made people wait, and
now they're going to drop the second eight episodes of
the first season. Oh, a lot of wins and people
(12:34):
have been clamoring for it, and I can't wait for
the audience to see it. Because they loved the first
first eight, they're going to lose their mind off of
the second eight.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Oh so it's the second half of the first season.
And it's always interesting to me how all of that
stuff comes together. I don't understand. It's somebody far higher
up than me and you figure all that stuff out.
But it must work somewhere, because it's more and more
popular these days, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Yes, I think it is strategically that that has proven
that that is a more effective way of getting more
eyes on people will watch it. They watched the first
eight episodes a lot of people. I got a lot
of fans that said they watched them in one day
or two days. And because of that binging, I thought
they also felt that what will happen is once we
(13:18):
stop the episodes, there's going to be a period where
people are just going to talk about it. That helps
with press, that's like free press. And then we drop
the second eight episodes. People who haven't seen the first
episodes may go and watch the first episode, so now
we've got more eyes on again. And it also works
out as far as the show itself because people are
(13:39):
very hung before it, and I can't wait till they
see the second aid because the first eight if that
got them excited, if that brought us to number one
in the US as well as globally, I just can't
wait till the second eight drop.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I love it. Thank you so much for taking the
time to chat. I appreciate it, sir, My pleasure, My
pleasure again. Our guest today Rico Ross, and it's Tyler
Perry's saying season two. It's the second half of season one,

(14:56):
great moments between those two actors, and you could tell
they had so much fun work. Yeah, David Spade and
Chris Farley and uh yeah it again. Great movie, Tommy Boy,
very very good one. And that is your quote of

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Yeah, the hat.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Was invented to keep horse riders heads safe from branches
and other obstacles. Oh writing in the woods.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
I didn't realize that's what that was for.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I didn't either.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
As news to me, and it's also news to me.
Speaker 3 (15:58):

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that John? Unlike dogs, pigs,
and some other mammals, humans cannot taste water. We taste
the chemicals and the impurities in the water, but we
don't taste water itself. Fun fact for you, Heide, what's that?
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Job?
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yahoooooo was originally called Jerry and David's Guide to the World.
Wide Web and then they switched over to Yahoo dot com.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
It was a good change.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Fun fact for your Heide, what's that job? Tsunamis like
tidal waves can travel as fast as a jet airplane.
How crazy is that?
Speaker 3 (17:00):
That is insane?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Fun fact for you? What's that John? Minnie Mouse has
a first name? You know what her first name is?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I do, but I cannot think of it.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Minerva.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Oh, I guess I wouldn't have gotten.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Minerva, so Mini is short form Minerva. And our final
fun fact for you, Heidi, was that John in Tokyo
they sell two pays for dogs, So I kind of
think that would be adorable. All right, I kind of
want to see what that looks like. I'm going to
be googling that. Several fun facts now, you know, thanks
for listening to the John and Heidi Show. Now, some
(17:32):
weird news. Robert is in custody after essentially turning himself
in and Bullhead City, Arizona police posted surveillance photos on
social media from two recent bank robberies asking for help
identifying the suspect. Soon after, detectives received a tip from
somebody who identified himself as thirty seven year old John Steiner.
They're working on obtaining a search warrant on the suspects truck.
(17:54):
When he showed up at the police station, why he
wanted to report that somebody pointed a gun at him
and accuse him of being the bank Robert posted on
social media. He then was taken into custody for robbery.
His truck was searched and clothing was found inside that
matched what was worn during the robbery. Also still in
the truck the notes that he used to demand the
(18:15):
money from the bank teller. So yeah, not the smartest
thing to bring with you while you're going to the police.
Also not smart to rob a bank. No, yeah, yeah,

without experience, oh my goodness. And piano player want it
must have knowledge of opening clams.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Maybe a pianist wouldn't know what they meant to say there.
I'm sure they meant something, but I can't imagine that
they would want a piano player that knows how to
really open clams, unless's at a restaurant and they're like,
you know what, hey, breaks, you're going to be helping
us out. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Is that all you have?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
That's all I have.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
That's plenty. Thank you so much. I apologize that you

gonna do really good at this. Guess what this British
term means in North America? So these are all things
that people in Britain call something that's called something different
in North America. Trainers what are they call? Yeah, sneakers
or running shoes. How about the boot is the trunk
of a car?
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Yeah? How about the wireless? Heard it on the wireless telephone? No,
it's a radio. Oh yeah, heard it on the wireless
back you're fifty two? Yeah, it's from a song, Heidi,
Come on a nappy? What a diaper? A diaper?
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:54):
How did you know that? Holy cow crisp? If you're
gonna have a crisp, you're heaving chips?
Speaker 4 (21:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
How about a pram? What's a pram?
Speaker 3 (22:02):
I don't know?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
A baby carriage?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Oh? Yes?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Chemist? What is the chemist?
Speaker 3 (22:07):
It's a pharmacist?
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah. How about a sleeping policeman? What is a sleeping policeman. Actually,
what would we call that sleeping police? Sleeping police security guard? No,
a speed bump, they call that a sleeping policeman. How
about an off license? If you're going to go to
the off license where you're heading, I don't know the
liquor store, that's an off license. And if somebody is
(22:28):
a starker's what are they crazy? No? Naked? Oh yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Very shark naked.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Yeah, you did really well, Heidi. I knew none of that.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
I knew the PRAM. I'm disappointed myself. I knew the

(23:03):
We always like to wrap things up around here with
good news, and I think this is good news. From Boston, Massachusetts.
An eight year old in children's hospital loves pickles, so
a chef taught her how to make pickles.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Oh how cute is that?
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Yeah? Eight year old Emerson Bays always has loved pickles,
and during her stay at Boston Children's Hospital that love
turned into a very special experience. It made her time
there a little bit brighter. Emerson was first admitted as
a heart transplant Canada a while back, and the hospital
team fully embraced her new obsession with pickles. A child
life specialist from the Association of Childlife Professionals even decorated
(23:41):
her pick line with pickle themed stickers.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Shoot.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
