Speaker 4 (01:26):
Scotch, just good old scotch.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
And I found a recipe I think sounds amazing, but
I like I like overly sweet drinks, and I think
I would love this. It's called a Spicy Citrus south Side.
It's got a gave syrup, lime juice, mint leaves, scotch,
and halapanos.

Now surveys and studies and such. Comedian Gilda Radner led
a tongue in cheek study asking people whether they prefer
toilet paper to hang over or under. Her playful findings
over folks over ten to score as more dominant, while
under people came across as more submissive. Even something as
trivial as TP orientation can be quite revealing.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yes, goes over.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
When the two of us got married, you were an
under twenty five years ago. I was an under guy.
She was an over girl. Now we are an overtam
because she's more dominant and I am a nice man,
I said, Uh, I get used to it. Well in
twenty five years, I'm still getting used to it. It
just seems weird to me.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
But you know, why does this seem weird and other
way is wrong?

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I've just been doing it wrong my whole life, that's all.
It's okay, hey, half of my life. Now, I've been
getting it right. Hey, say you have there, I go surveys,
had studies and such on The John.

Barbie Movie, that came out in twenty twenty three, Live Back.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, I've heard rumblings it did well.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, did really well. A new animated feature is in
development with Illumination and Mattel Studios, making Barbie's first big
screen animated release, So I don't know, yeah, because there were.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Other Barbie movies, but I don't think they were at

Is it a dark joke? Is it a funny joke?

Speaker 4 (06:19):
It's dumb?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Okay? Well just for me, is what you're saying? Okay,
what do you got doc?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
I can't stop singing Green, Green Grass of Home. He
said that sounds like Tom Jones syndrome. Is it common?
I asked, It's not unusual.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
It's not unusual. I'm not gonna have that sounding stuck
in my head. Thank you. This is the joke of

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Time now for your scoop of the day. I don't
know who's doing these studies, but a study shows that
seventeen percent of us have eaten an entire cake in
one sitting.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Oh, I couldn't. I would be so sick.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
How big is this cake? Yeah, I can't even imagine.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
No, there's no way I could do that.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
If it was like a mini cake. Maybe I cannot
imagine sitting down eating an entire wedding cake and one
sitting or I don't know.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I just that's what popped in my head. I just don't.
I just don't know. And we're going to go from
cakes to cookies. Doctor Len Fisher at the University of
Bristol tackled the drama of cookie dunking. Hey, someone's got
to do it, Heidi, don't give me that look. After experiments,
this good doc concluded that Goldilocks dunk time is three

(08:04):
point five seconds, and doing it at slight angle reduces
the crumble and the moist. The most serious cookie lovers
learned something new all the time, and he's like, this
is what he learned? Is you do it at an angle?
You don't straight in you.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Let me guess this was tax paarafunded.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Well it doesn't say that who else would pay for
such a thing?

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
So doctor len Fisher, University of Bristol, hats off to you,
my friend. We should get together sometime soon and have
some cookies. I'll bring the milk. That is your scoop

The John and Heidi Show this weekend. Excited to visit
right now with James Sunshine. He's a reality TV producer
from things like Big Brother in Hell's Kitchen and mid
any other fun projects. And he's got a new project
right now. It's a movie. It's called Killing Mary Sue.

(09:07):
Let's talk a little bit about this film.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
Yeah, so this is a new feature film. It's an
action comedy. It's kind of edgy, it's kind of weird,
you know. It's about a corrupt senator who arranges for
the murder of his biggest liability, his erratic burnout stepdaughter,
only for her to kind of discover her natural talent
as an untouchable killer in her own right.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
So, James, where did this idea come from? Is this
based on a true story or is this all Hollywood?

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Yeah, yeah, it's I hope it's not based off a
true story about a guy trying to kill his stepdaughter. No, yeah,
it's it's salvede up for your viewers, your listeners who
are familiar with the concept of a Mary Sue character trope.
This whole film is just a sassire on the idea
of a Mary Sue, which is a character in a film,

(09:55):
usually a young woman who's kind of good at everything
for no reason. So the film is very satirical and
it's kind of a take on kind of those modern
girl boss movies with the crazy action star leading woman
in an action film who can beat up guys twice
her size. The film is very tongue in cheek.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Well, I was hoping it was not based on a
true story, but these days you just never know. Yeah,
we got to talk about this amazing cast. You have,
what a talented group of people. How in the world
did you pull all of that together?

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Yeah. Well, part of the reason we were able to
get such an amazing cast, you know, Sierra McCormick, Thermet Maulroney,
Sean Patrick Flannery, Jason Mues, Trench Stewart. Part of the
reason we were able to get all these guys is
because we actually shot the film right before the actors
strike in twenty twenty three, which put us in a
really advance you know. It created a lot of headaches

(10:46):
in some ways, putting our backs up against the wall
needing to shoot the film, but it was somewhat advantageous
in other ways that it opened us up to, you know,
strike deals with a lot of actors who knew that
they were going to be out of work for the
next six months going on strike, and they were looking
for you know, those last little last minute paychecks.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Again, the movie is out now, it's called Killing Mary Sue.
Where can I go if I would like to take
a look at this movie? Where do I find it online?

Speaker 1 (11:10):
So?

Speaker 5 (11:10):
The best place to check out the film is you
can just go to our website, It's Killingmarysue dot com
and once you get there, you'll be able to find
the trailer and you'll be able to find links to
all of our places where you can see it like YouTube, Google, Fandango, Apple, Amazon, Yeah,
all available to rent her own on demand.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
So you mentioned you started on the film in twenty
twenty three. How long does it take to make a
movie like this? Did it take a couple of years
to do this?

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Yes, so it took us about about a year to
shoot it and edit it and get the film all
finished and everything, and then it sat on the shelf
for a little bit because you know, then it also
takes time to sell a project, and you got to
shop it around and bring it to interested buyers and
negotiate deals and all of this. So yeah, I like
to talk about it like it's it's been a long

(11:58):
time coming, and I'm very happy that it's out into
the world and that people have been responding to it
so well.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
James, A lot of people know you from reality shows
things like Big Brother in Hell's Kitchen and all of
these fun things you had a chance to do. Let's
talk a little bit about that and how did that
get you ready to be an independent filmmaker for Killing
Mary Sue.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Yeah, you know, for for a long time, I've been
working in the reality TV space, and for a long
time I thought that that brought me farther away from
my goals as a filmmaker. But I realized recently that
it's actually brought me much closer to my goals. So
my goal, my job in the reality TV space is
a story producer, and so my job is to literally
take the chaos of the ideas and everything that happens

(12:35):
on set when you shoot a reality show and turn
it into something coherent, you know, in the development stage
and in the editing stage and all of that. And
actually working in those spaces with the chaos of reality
TV made me a sharper storyteller, and it's actually made
it so when I shoot narrative content where you have
a script in everything, it actually feels pretty straightforward to

(12:57):
what I'm used to.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
I love that. Let's talk about the new movie once again,
Killing Mary Sue. Where can people go if they want
to watch the film?

Speaker 5 (13:04):
Yeah, so people can watch it Killingmarysoue dot Com and
you'll find all of our links YouTube, Google, Amazon, Apple, Fandango,
and you can rent your own the film on demand.
And I'm really excited for people to check it out.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
I am as well. James, thank you so much for
taking the time to chat. We appreciate it a bunch.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Thank you for having me on. I appreciate it again.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Our guest today has been James Sunshine. He's a writer
and a director and a TV producer for reality TV
shows like Big Brother, in Hell's Kitchen and Again. His
new film is out right now. It's a feature length film,
a lot of big stars in this really really cool cast,
Killing Mary Sue and you can find that on their website,
Killingmarysue dot com. I've got a link to it as well.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
That quote is famous now all over the internet and
people say that all the time.

Speaker 4 (14:37):

News to Me as we head to the News to

Speaker 4 (15:20):
So earlier you mentioned a study and I said it's
probably taxpayer fund and I have all sorts of issues
with where dollars go. You're rolling your eyes as you're saying,
I have another list of a few that I found
that I was like, really, so it's just ironic that
we started off there. In twenty fifteen, the Department of Defense,
the Department of Defense spent two million dollars on a robot.

(15:43):
What do you think this robot does?

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Have no idea?

Speaker 4 (15:46):
It will just play a trumpet and improvise jazz music
alongside human musicians. Why the Department of Defense.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
That's what where we're doing.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
That's where two million dollars is going.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, somebody apparently just had a plan.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Two grad students at the University of Washington received one
point three million from the National Science Foundation to study
how foam beer can holders known as koozies, keep beer cold.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
They insulate that.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
They studied they had to study that for one point
three million. Oh my goodness, the National Science Foundation awarded
eight hundred and fifty three thousand dollars to Yakima Valley
Community College to study or to increase its windmaking program.
And community colleges are basically eighteen to twenty year olds,
so they're basically encouraging young people to drink underage. And then, finally,

(16:41):
the National Institute of Health spent one million testing the
response of the body for strenuous exercise by putting twelve
marmasets inside transparent hamster balls and making them run on
a treadmill edit increasing speeds. The monkeys pooped in their balls,
another vomited. That's just cruel and awful to begin with,

(17:03):
and they got one million bucks to do that to monkeys.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
That's not nice, but it is news to me, and
it's news to me, and it's also news to me.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Whether you're dressing up for a summer wedding or heading

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that?

Speaker 5 (17:44):
John?

Speaker 2 (17:45):
At one time, denture makers added uranium to false teeth
to give them a healthy glow.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
That's healthy.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
The healthy glow is healthy. But yeah, what's that? This
keeps happening? Oh, these grandpa's I don't know what's happening.
Fun fact for a Heidi, what's that John? Men are
forty one percent more likely than women to be stopped
for speeding forty one percent more likely.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
Maybe they're forty one percent more likely.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
To speed, eh.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Fun fact for a Heidi. About six percent of people
experience sleep paralysis. It's the inability to move for several
minutes after waking up. That would be weird.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Yeah, I wouldn't like that.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
I wouldn't like that at all. Fun fact for a Heidi.
John hank Azara has voiced more than one hundred and
sixty characters on the Simpsons.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Is that crazy?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, it's a bunch. And he's not doing as many
as a usue because now they have different voices doing
some of the characters. And our final fun fact for you, Heidi, John,
the German language has words to describe thirty different types
of kisses.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Oh, that's nice.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
That is very nice. I kind of wonder what they are.
We should practice those later. She's my wife. Several fun

The latest viral trend, freeze branding, has health experts seriously concerned.
Inspired by livestock marking, it involves pressing a freezing metal
brand it's cooled with liquid nitrogen onto your skin to
create a permanent design. Dermatologist doctor Andrea Sorez, also known

(19:29):
as doctor Dre on TikTok is urging people not to
try this warning that you are not a horse. While
it's relatively safe for animals, on humans, it can cause
full thick burns and it can lead to serious infections
like cellulitis. It can also result in sepsis, which could
kill you, and bone inflammation if it's untreated. So yeah,

(19:52):
let's not do that. They're like, it doesn't hurt the
animals because they have fur, but you don't, so it's
different news. Right here on the John and Heidi Show,

Time out for something special with Heidi Small. What do
you have for me, Heidie?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
I found another story about a Florida man. Actually, this
is about Florida men. Oh okay, and I'm not even
gonna use their names. I'm not going to dignify these two, okay,
with any any exposure. Two Florida men were out for
a stroll. This was in about October of twenty nineteen,
came across a small alligator.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Oh yeah, as one does in Florida.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Captured the reptile with his bare hands. His friend, who
happened to be twenty seven years old, decided that he
wanted to get bitten by the alligator.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
What he wanted to do?

Speaker 4 (21:43):
You want to do?

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Why?

Speaker 4 (21:44):
The pair started filming the encounter on the cell phone.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Uh huh.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
He put his He put the alligator's jaw around his forearm,
and the gator wouldn't bite, wouldn't do anything.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
The gator's like, even, I know, this is a bad idea.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
And so then he starts shaking his arm around in
the gator's mouth trying to get him to bite. He wouldn't,
So then he poured his beer down the alligator's throat.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Okay, as the animals.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Started thrashing about and the nineteen second video ends. They
posted this video online. Florida Ficial water Life officials saw
the video and gave them a huge fight. Yeah, they
were charged with unlawfully taking an alligator, which is a felony.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Yeah, they told the police when we released the animal
unharmed except for with a mouthful of course.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
So what you're saying is it wasn't the best plan.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
It was definitely not a great.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Puss something special with Heidi Small, whether you're dressing up

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Time out for the list, and we're gonna do our
final few Why is Its? We did a bunch of
these over the course of the last week.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
These are interesting.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Why is it? Hotels provide free shampoo and mouthwash, and
shower caps and shoe polished cloth, but they never provide
the one thing most people forget, toothpaste.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Yeah that's a good thing. Yeah, it's a good hotels do.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Why is it they don't just cut the price of
a product instead of giving you a rebate. Yeah, that's
true too, because people don't sit in the rebate. Then
they don't have to lose the money. That's why. Yeah,
I bet that's what it is. Why is it there
are five syllables in the word monosyllabic monosyllab However, you
said the one syllable is what that means, But there's
five syllables in the meaning of it. Why is it

(23:56):
your nose only itches when your hands are full. I've
noticed that too. I don't think I've ever itched my
nose with my hands unfold. If ignorance is bliss, why
aren't there more happy people? Why is it so many
animals are named after cars? I got to thinking about that.
There are quite a few. Yeah, yeah, lot, uh and
I think it's cars named after animals and uh, we'll

(24:18):
do one more. Why is it the probability of somebody
watching you is proportional to the stupidity of whatever.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
It is You're yes that I do not like being watched, and.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Usually people are watching me when I'm doing something I
probably shouldn't be doing. I'm like, it's good a fit,
it's gonna yeah, it doesn't fit. Never mind. That is
the list on The John and Heidi.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Show, The Heidi Show.

like to wrap things up around here with good news,
and I think this is good news. A man breaks

(25:00):
a world record after running four hundred and sixty five
half marathons in a year.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
Wow. Yeah, ambitious guy.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Edward Malaniu, thirty four year old personal trainer. I bet
he's going to do a lot more personal training now
that I have time after all that running, probably, and
he's going to be famous for doing this. Achieved a
staggering feet running four hundred and sixty five half marathons
in a twelve month period. That's more than six thousand
miles logged between April of twenty twenty three and April

(25:29):
of twenty twenty four. Why has it taken so long
for this story to get out? He began running seriously
during COVID it had a herniated had a what after
a hernie? A hernia sidelined him from his usual high
impact sports like boxing, okay, so.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
He started running instead of boxing.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Okay, he said, it took me about two years after
my operation to get my body back. All I could
do at that time, though, was run. Running quickly turned
into from a necessity to a passion. With the determination
and the grit that he has, he surpassed his own
previous record of two hundred and eighty two half mariathons.
Any hoar, and then he decided, you know what, let's
look and see what the record is. And then he

(26:05):
set out to beat that record and he did and
again that record is four hundred and sixty five half
marathons in a twelve month period. For those of you
who don't know, there's three hundred and sixty five days
in a year, so that's more than one half marathon
per day.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Insane.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, so that is just wild. I've got a link
to the story. I've got a link to a video
of him running and some photos of him running. You
can see all of that in the show notes for
today at johnndtheidishow dot com. Time saying bye, heide, good Bye, Heidey, goodbye, everybody,
