It's Monday. My beautiful bride is at my side. Hellou, Heidi, Hellou.
I am so excited today I'm going to visit with
Lou Diamond Phillips.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I've been a fan of him for a long long time.
He's been in so many amazing movies and the one
that he's in right now is called at two, like
at two Brute from Shakespeare. Here's the thing, you know me,
I usually don't watch like the whole movie ahead of
time because I want to still have like questions and go, hey,
what about this? I started watching. I watched the whole
darn thing. It was really good, So anyway, we'll watch
(00:51):
it together. Heidi was sleeping. Well, I got up way
early and did that. But I'm super excited as with
Lou Diamond Phillips on this movie star Monday.

one of the ways that God shows me he loves me.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, you got a drink for this?
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Oh yes, I found a chocolate white Russian. First of all,
white Russians are amazing, and a chocolate white Russian is
just even that much better. It's Kalua vodka milk and
then milk chocolate syrup, which sounds heavenly.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, that does sound good. I've got a link to
that drink in the show notes for today at John

Now surveys and studies and such a Hey, it's easy
for me to say. A survey have two thousand adults
said what small thing makes you happy? Surprising favorites included
jumping the grocery line, so like getting ahead of somebody okay, okay,
hitting green lights, Oh that doesn't make me happy, hearing
your favorite song, Yeah that does, and rediscovering a childhood smell.
(02:45):
I don't know about that one. What would that be?
Like fresh baked bread like Gramma used to make, or
something like that you think.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I don't know, Like I've like I'll walk by somebody
who's wearing like the same kind of lotion that my
grandmother wore. It always makes me smile because it brings
back a lot of memory some things like that.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Well, on average, people report unexpected joy twice a week,
and most say these little micro moments uplift their mood instantly.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I agree.

Big Screen, Little Screen Freddy Prince Junior share stories from
the I Know What You Did Last Summer revival filming,
a twenty twenty five revival. He and Jennifer love Hewitt
reprise their roles from the original horror films.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I loved the original well they.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Mentored new generation as well. Prince Junior admits, that's kind
of weird to say. Prince Junior's be Prince anyway, amused
the set by recalling childhood ghost scaring antics, so he
had all kinds of fun stories to share, and filming
begins on Preacher Man in East Texas, a faith based
film Preacher Man is shooting near Marshall, Texas. Local extras
(04:02):
are being cast for people to be like in the
background and stuff, so like extras that'd be kind of fun.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
They've also started filming on the next season of ted Lasso.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Have they ohe have that? Heidie's got the scoop. It's
your big screen, little screen report right here on the

doubled in size, trees would immediately fall over? I don't
think that's gonna happen anyway. Yeah, it's because double surface gravity,
it would be doubled. It would also mean a dog
size and larger animal would not be able to run
without breaking their legs.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
So, okay, this is something we don't need to worry about.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Some guys somewhere calculate he crunched the numbers and that's

Time now for the joke of the day with Heidi Small.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
What do you have, Heidi, I'm on a whiskey diet.
It's working great. I've lost three days already.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Thank goodness. She's not really on a whiskey diet. These
are just.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Jokes I have been from time to time.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Well, yeah, I remember, I remember one time your nephew's birthday.
It was wine though.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
That was wine.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, she had to sober up over the course of
a few days.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
It was bad.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
It was really.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
That is your joke of the day on the John

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Now your scoop of the day. And this is kind
of interesting. So according to this the study shows fourteen
percent of us eat watermelon seeds. When we eat watermelon,
do eat the seeds?
Speaker 3 (06:45):
I try not to, and I'm sure I have, but
not on purpose.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Here's the thing. If it's a seedless watermelon, then they
have like, eaty bitty baby. If that's what they're talking about.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Well, I think some people will just eat it all
it doesn't matter. But I will certainly, and I know
I have swallowed. Want me to see, I will try
not to.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
But when I was a kid, I remember my dad's
friends were like, oh, you swallow seed, that's gonna grow
in your belly, and then I started getting fat. I'm like,
I must have swallowed the seeds. That's what's going on here,
security camera. This is just bizarre. We're recording at an
Ohio community center when a small child climbed into a
claw machine and got stuck in there with the stuffed animals.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, can you even imagine.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Seeing that on movies. I've never seen anybody actually do it.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Well, now you can. Surveillance footage from the Mason Community
Center show a moment when a child looks into a
prize door and then climbs inside, with a volunteer only
noticing as the boy's legs disappear into the machine. So
you know a little late.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Police in Ems were summoned to the July seventh incident.
They brought the machine inside the building to be partially disassembled.
The child, who was not injured, thank goodness, was reunited
with his mother, whom he was then presented. He presented
her with a stuffed animal.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah, I would think he would be in a lot
of trouble.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Took her forty seven tickets to get him back. Just
kidding that part. I added a friend of ours actually
owns a business with a bunch of those machines in it.
I've never even looked to see how big the opening is.
Do you think kids could get.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
In his I've not paid attention.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
I'm gonna have to pay attention next time I go
in there. So I do have a link to the
video for those of you who are going I want
to see that. I've got a link to this video.

Thank you for listening to the John Ed Heidi Show
on a movie Star Money Excited a visit with the
one and only lou Diamond Phillips, and we're gonna chat
(08:53):
about a film. I've had a chance to watch it,
and I didn't know how to say the name before.
I was saying it wrong. But it's at two but
it's spelled E T TU don't feel back.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
And some people have gone, is this a sequel to
E T? Is this?
Speaker 4 (09:06):
No? No?
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Not quite Well again the film is. It's brand new,
it's out right now. I gotta tell you. I don't
usually watch the whole movie before doing the interview because
I always like to stay curious and have questions. I
couldn't quit watching this. I watched the whole thing. But
I'm not going to give away. I'm not going to
give away anything, but I will say this, you did
an amazing job. You do a great job and everything.
But I was watching this it's going look at this guy.
(09:29):
This guy's acting is bought off. You did a great job, man,
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
I took the Best Actor award at the Los Angeles
Film Festival. You know, which is which is funny because
it's a little black comedy horror thing and you wouldn't
expect it to be getting any acting awards, but I
mean the role is just so wonderful. I mean, he's
just jam packed and complex. Yeah, Brent is a director
who's you know, he's very pretentious, but he's an elitist
and a purist and he and he loves the art
(09:55):
and he's you know, mounted this this regional production of
Julius Caesar. And you know, in addition to all the
headaches he's got, you know, doing that, he thinks that
the you know, the the honky young guy playing Brutus
who got the role through nepotism, is shaking his wife.
So you know that that adds some real passion to
the mix.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Got a bit of a love story, there's a little
bit of intrigue given a ghost story, and I'm going
to tell you all about it because I don't I
want you to see this. But I also got to say,
I love the fact that you've got some fresh faces,
actors that I've never seen before, actresses have never seen before.
But also the legend Malcolm McDowell. What was it like
working with him?
Speaker 5 (10:31):
It was a joy? I mean, you know, I mean
when when the script came to me, he was already attached,
so I was predisposed to. Uh, it's one of those
things like Malcolm is doing this, Oh.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
My gosh, I hope I like it.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
I really hope I like it. And I did. I
fell in love with it right away, And just knowing
that I was going to get to say those words
with Malcolm was it was a real, real and the
benefan of his since clauckwork orange obviously. Uh, just a lovely,
lovely man, and he came with the with the sort
of discipline in preparation you would expect from from an
(11:03):
actor who has been doing it for as long as
he has and who comes from the theater. So we
had we had a real blast working together.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
And I'm not really sure how I knew that he
was connected to Shakespeare, but he's a British actor, and
I googled it and he started as a Shakespearean actor
and he did an amazing job.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
It legitimizes that too, especially, you know, because it's a
movie about the theater, and you know, you want some
people with some real theater cred filling those roles because
they understand them. And like you said, I mean, what's
really wonderful is that there is a young cast in
this that are so enthusiastic and so passionate, and it
was it was a joy to work with them as well.
I mean, there was a lot of art imitates life
(11:40):
in there, where you know, I felt like I was
mentoring them, you know, and leading by example.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
And a good chunk of this was filmed in a theater.
Is that a real theater or was that just a
set somewhere?
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Yeah, no, no, it's it's it's a real theater or
the San Bernard, you know, California out there, you know.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
And I have to say that Max Tannis, the writer,
direct young guy on his way up. You're going to
hear a lot from this kid. That was one of
the things that really really impressed me in reading the script.
A lot of people want to make a movie. They
have limited finances that you know, they but they want
to make a Marvel movie. You know, they write too
(12:18):
big for what they actually have to spend. And Max
was so smart to write this story and make it,
make it filmable, make it affordable, you know, mostly one
location i'd say ninety five percent of it, and a
very finite budget and a very finite schedule. But it was.
It was so well constructed that I knew he had
(12:39):
set himself up for success.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
It was such a great story, and I got to say,
as the film goes along, everything just kind of builds,
the excitement build, and it kind of leads up to well,
a pretty amazing ending and it absolutely keeps you on
the edge of your seat all the way to the end.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
I'm thrilled you said that. I mean, that's the thing
is that, you know, the film festival audiences came into
it knowing nothing, and I think a lot of people
who are going to, you know, render by this on
vod you know, available now, won't know what to expect.
And I think that that is actually part of the interactions,
like okay, just you know what, buy your ticket, take
the ride. You'll enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Again, Like I said, usually I'll just watch the trailer
or a little bit of it, but I couldn't quit
watching it, So I think that's a good thing.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Yeah, I'm thrilled to hear that. Thank you so much again.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Our guest today lou Diamond Phillips at two or E two,
however you want to say it. It's not ET two.
That's a whole different thing. It's available to thank you

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Dumb and Dumber.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, that movie was so so funny. And again, back
when they did that, Jeff Daniels had never done a comedy,
and they didn't. There were people who were like, uh,
you shouldn't do this.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
It was a brilliant commisshouldn't do this.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
During World War Two, the Lockheed factory in Burbank, California
employed eighty thousand people making bombers for the war. Nice
but because it was so close to the coast, the
government worried that the factory would be vulnerable to enemy attacks.
So enter Hollywood. Oh, Hollywood comes in to camouflage the
business set. Designers and artists and studios from Disney to
(15:28):
Paramount in twentieth century Fox all came in and they
they made chicken wire walls and they painted and they decorated,
and when they were done, you couldn't even like a
recognaissance flight to check it out, couldn't even tell where
it was at. The people who knew that it was
there couldn't even see it. They did such a good job.
(15:50):
So the factory's chimneys and manilation outlets became trees, bushes
and fire hydrants and houses and streets and lawns and
cars were all out of chicken wire and just made
a huge movie set. Basically, that's wild. I know, I
think it's really super cool. That is so anyway, that's
news to me.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
That is also news to me.

Fun fact for you. Heidi's study show artists have more
lovers than those in other fields. So if you're an artist,
you know, get good at drying hearts and stuff. Apparently
more lovers apparently.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Okay, so what they can't make one person happy and
I have to bouse around.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
I don't know. I'm not an artist, Thank goodness. Fun
fact for you, Heidie. Humans have forty six chromosomes. Potatoes
have forty eight. It's harder to be a potato than
a human. Fun fact for a Hidie. One in eighteen
people have a third nipple, known as a polythelia. The
third nipple is caused by a mutation in inactive genes.
One in eighteen. That's a lot more. There's a lot
(17:17):
of people listening with that. I wonder if they know it.
I wonder if I have one. I have never really looked.
Fun fact for a Heidie. There's no such thing as
a straight line. If he's doing close enough, you're gonna
see there's a bunch of irregularities. Even laser beams are
slightly curved. At our final fun fact for you, Heidi
ants don't have lungs. They breathe through spiracles nine or

ten tiny little openings, depending on the species. So there
you go. Several fun facts now, you know, thanks for

locals to stop dropping off random urine samples, especially in

things like, you know, jelly jars and whatnot the saltan surgery.
They post it on social media that they've been swamped
with urine in non sterile household containers and from now
on they'll only accept urine samples if a doctor has
specifically requested one. First of all, Yeah, doctors say they
need to examine patients before interpreting results, and unexpected samples
(18:32):
just eat up time, supplies and lab resources. So has
this become a big issue?
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Apparently?
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Does that seem like a weird thing that you have
to post on social media. All right, everybody stop dropping
off your urine samples. I mean, nobody's done it, but
we don't want anyone to start thinking of it either. Yeah,
it's just really weird. I can't believe that's happening, but

Time out for the question of the day. This one's
for you, Heidi. In a survey of adults, this was
found to be the scariest thing while growing up this
part of their house. What was the scariest part?
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Basement?
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Yeah? See, I think that attic would be just as
probably just as scary for many. But some homes maybe
don't have an attic, right suppose some don't have a basement.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
I mean a lot. It depends on what part of
the country you're in. I suppose growing up, no house
I ever lived in never had a true attic. I
mean there were like crowdspaces and stuff up there where
you could.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Put wouldn't that be even scarier though?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
But who'd be up there?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Was?
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Jerry Busey. I saw the movie, remember that movie, Gary
in the House House.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
That's an excellent.

So Colonel Sanders, he's a colonel, but he's not the
only Kentucky colonel. Did you know that it is tradition
in Kentucky that dates back more than two hundred years
for the governor to commission people to be recognized as
a colonel.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Okay, so he wasn't a real colonel like.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
He had you know, he wasn't a colonel, but he
was a decorated Yeah yeah, yeah. More than one hundred
and forty thousand people have been been given that honor.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
You're saying, maybe I could be Colonel John and you
could be Colonel Heidie.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
We we could. Two of the perks of being a
colonel are tickets to the Kentucky Derby.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Oh wow, definitely need that now, and.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
A Kentucky Derby Eve banquet, Oh my goodness. And the
right to be addressed as the honorable colonel. So some
other famous Kentucky colonels are Colonel Tiger Woods okay, Colonel
Shirley Temple, Colonel Betty White, Wow, Colonel Pope, John Paul
the Second, Colonel Johnny.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Depp huh, Colonel Hunter S.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Thompson okay, Colonel Whoopee Goldberg alright, and Colonel Wayne Newton.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Well there you go. So they just name these people
colonel hoping they'll come hang out with them at the

Time now for the list how these stars got their names.
I've got a whole bunch of them here. I'm not
going to get through all of them today, so we'll
do some of these throughout the week here, but I'm
going to do the whole list is in the show notes.
Lady Gaga, a music producer, said that she reminded him
of the song Radio Gaga by Queen, and he kept
calling her Gaga, so then she would come out of
(22:43):
the studio she'd hear him saying Gaga. She reinvented herself
as Lady Gaga. Rady Chapel Roane, there was a person
who paid tribute to her late grandfather with her pop
persona right there because her grandfather, the Strawberry Roan by
Marty Robbins says, my grandfather's name was Dennis Chapel, so
I took that and I took that and I jammed
(23:04):
them together.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
So there you go.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
And how about post Malone. His real name is Austin Post.
When he was fourteen, he got into a rapping and
it got into rapping and producing and he needed a
name for his mixtape, so he ran through a random
rap name generator put his name in there and it
came out as post Malone. Okay, that's kind of fun.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Everybody got a story.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
A bunch more, and we'll get through those throughout the week,
but you can read them all if you'd like in
the show notes for today at John dheidishow dot com.

to wrap things up around here with good news, and
I think this is good news. A simple box a
(23:55):
big impact. A city's blessing box quietly helps those in need.
Since twenty seventeen, a handmade wooden cabinet in the lobby
of the police department in this community is known as
the Blessing Box. It's a place where anybody in need
could find essentials like nonperishable food, hygiene products, baby items, whatever,
and it's all available around the clock. The idea began
(24:17):
when one officer and his family. Over the years, the
community with one officer and his family rather, they started
stocking it and then over the years of community has
kept it going strong, from individuals to entire schools. People
regularly drop things off.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Now that's really sweet.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Even elementary students do fundraising service projects and they come
in and drop stuff off all the time. According to
the witness coordinator at the department, it's always great to
see the community, especially the young local youth doing that
with the Police Department lobby open twenty four to seven.
The Blessing Box is always accessible, offering support and dignity
for those who need it most. They said it will
(24:51):
be here forever. It really goes to show you we
can all make a difference. The Blessing Box is more
of a cabinet, and it's a symbol of a community
that cares. I've got a link to that story in
the show notes for today at Johndeidishow dot com. Time
say good bye, Heidie.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Bye, Heidy goo bye.
