Speaker 2 (00:26):

Oh yeah, I love talking with Kevin.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh he's a great, great dude. And yeah. So anyway,
we're gonna chat with Kevin about something old and something new.
So he's got a movie that was in theaters fifteen
years ago. It's called what If, and it's kind of
almost like it's a wonderful life type scenario. Anyway, it's
back in theaters for its fifteenth anniversary and you can
see it August fifth, which is tomorrow, and you can
(00:57):
see it on August seventh, which is is Thursday. I
had to look at the calendar to make sure I
knew what day I was talking about. So yeah, tomorrow
and Thursday, we'll be back in theaters. Anyway, I'm gonna
chat with Kevin Sorbol. Yeah, Hercules himself coming your way

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, I love the Coast Guard. That's very and so
I found a drink called Oceanwater Cocktail, which I thought
was pretty fairy.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
That's that's very good.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
And that consists of coconut water, pineapple juice, blue crocker,
and coconut rum. So my men and women in the Coastguard,
there's your cocktail to celebrate your day.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
There you go. That is awesome. I've got a link
to that drink in the show notes for today at

Now surveys and studies and such. I won one hundred
percent agree with this study, so take a list of this.
A study with five hundred and three participants during the
pandemic found that people with a higher playfulness trait managed
stress better, They were more creative and optimistic, and found
joy in everyday tasks even during lockdown. Researchers say playfulness
(02:57):
is not just innate, it can actually be cultivated, and
I think that's very true. I mean, there are things
that we've gone through with where a lot of people
I've actually literally had people go I don't know how
you guys made it through that, like that would have
killed me. And I'm like, uh, we we just found
away in.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
It almost killed us.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, And I'm like, oh, you don't know how close
we came. But I'm like, you know, I tried to
find the silver lining and everything. So even when things
were dark and things were bad, I would try to
make a joke and you know, and laugh about something.
Well we probably shouldn't be laughing, like you gotta go
meet with the attorneys again.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I find I find humor and everything because I have
a very very dark sense of humor. So it doesn't
matter what's going on. I can always find something.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
That's find a way to smile and it's gonna make
you feel better. Surveys and studies and such on The

It's a four part series. They originally planned on dropping
at August sixth, and then August twenty seventh. Now the
release was Friday of last week on Disney Plus the Act.
Or is it this week? Maybe it's this Friday. I
(04:19):
think it was last week. Yeah, because otherwise August sixth,
that would have been this Wednesday, So it must have
been last week, you know. I get these stories heighten.
I don't always read a break. The action adventure series
follows the adventures of brave Wakandian warriors throughout history, so
if you want to read more, it's dated, but it's
in the show notes. Ted Danzen and Mary stein Bergen
have been selected to jointly received Television Academies Bob Hope
(04:42):
Humanitarian Award. I think that's kind of cool. It'll be
presented to them in September.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Those two are adorable. I like watching I used to
like watching them on.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Curb Your Enthusiasasm we haven't.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
They were always on there together.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
And Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson have kind of struck
up a romance while they were filming the naked it's horrible. Yeah,
A seventy three year old Nissen and fifty eight year
old Anderson are enjoying each other's company, is what they're saying.
So I think that's kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah, it's adorable.

the world are wrong? It's good to know. This says
on most maps. The Mercader projection, first developed in fifteen
(05:54):
sixty nine, is still being used. This method is wildly
inaccurate and makes Alaska up here as large Brazil and
Greenland fourteen times larger than it actually is. For a
map to be completely accurate, the map needs to be
life sized and round, not flat. According to this story.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yeah, some maps also put Alaska way up by Canada.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
It's ridiculous that's where it is. Heidi thought Alaska was
at islands.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, it's not my fault. All my maps were rock.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
I'm not man that we don't know everything, but now
we know this.

beautiful bride, Heidi, what you got for me.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Here with happy Gilmour too. Having just come out here
recently and it being all over everything everybody's talking about,
it's fantastic. I thought it would be fun to share
this quote from Gerald Ford says, I know I'm getting
better at golf because I'm hitting fewer spectators.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Can you even imagine how horrible would that be smacking
someone in their face with a golf ball?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yike.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Anyway, I thought that was adore.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Time out for the scoop of the day. Russia was
hit last week with an eight point eight magnitude earthquake.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I saw that, and they were really worried about tsunamis.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah, well, and the thing that's really said online people
were like mocking this and making fun of it. Why
would you make fun of this? The one said, uh, yeah,
this hit luckily a hit where it did because it
only costs like twelve dollars in damage. I'm like, I'm
sure it was more than that. So it's in a
different place than where that person happens to be. But
there are local people in this area that probably did
lose a lot, So I see no humor in that.
(08:21):
We're going to move on to this warning may ignore
all warnings. This is why do some people keep making
bad choices even when they know better. A new international
study might have the answer. Researchers followed two hundred and
sixty seven people through a game that was designed to
test how we respond to punishment. What they found, not
all brains learned from mistakes the same way. It can
(08:42):
be explained by attributing it to simple stubbornness. Researchers saying, did.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
You look at me?
Speaker 2 (08:48):
I think we all know why I looked at you.
Researchers say that three distinct personality types emerge. Sensitive those
who quickly change behavior after experiencing negative consequences. They're like, oh,
oh hey, that was not good and I hurt someone.
I'm not going to do that. Again. I know some
people like that unaware. They don't even learn from experiences alone,
but they adjust once they're told what was wrong, So
(09:11):
like they don't internalize it, but somebody else will go, hey,
don't do that again, because this was what happened. They're like, oh, okay,
I'll stop doing that. And then compulsive These people understand
the consequences and how to avoid them, but they keep
on doing it anyway. The compulsive group is the most puzzling.
They knew what they were doing would hurt, but they
(09:32):
couldn't stop. Researchers say, this isn't about willpower, It's about
a deep cognitive difference. And even six months later, most
people stayed in their original category. So next time somebody
keeps messing up, it might not be that they don't care.
It's just that their brain works differently than yours and
they don't care. Heidi, that is your scoop of the
(09:53):
day right here on The John and Heidie Show.
Speaker 1 (09:56):

Thank you for listening on a Movie Star Money. Excited
to have Kevin Sorbol join us. We've had on the
program numerous times. Today we're going to talk about something
(10:17):
new and something not so new. We're talking about what If.
It celebrates its fifteenth anniversary, but it celebrates by being
back on the big screen tomorrow night and Thursday night.
I think that's really really cool, Kevin.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
It's awesome. I'm so excited. I've over ninety movies. This
is in my top three. The same writers who did
God's Not Dead, which was a huge h did what
If and what If my book much better movie. I've
always promoted this movie and.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Even if you've seen this before, it'd be fun to
see on the big screen again. And there's some bonus
things you'll see, some maybe familiar faces and some behind
the scene folks as well.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Yeah, we did. We got together at TBN Studios outside
of Fort Worth. It was Dallas Senkins and we directed
the movie. I'm there as long as John Ratzenberger, who
plays great, great funny Angel owners, Chrissy Swanson and Michael Scott,
one of the producers, and we did a little round table,
and I think people enjoy the little discussion about the
movie fifteen years later. But here's the movie that it
(11:08):
has an age, only the acts of age in this movie,
So the movie itself has not age. It's it's to
live like it's brand new, made this last week. You'll
love it. Family friendly, bring the kids. It's a revers
it wonderful life. It's just a very fun movie at
a guy getting a second chance in life.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
It is a great movie. And I've seen it, but
I've not seen it on the big screen. And there
might be other folks you know, that haven't even seen
it at all, even though it's been out fifteen years.
This could be your first chance to see the film.
What if.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Well, here's the trouble with independent movies. You know, when
you shoot movies in that two to three million dollar range, people,
that's a lot of money. No, it's catering budget and
pirates of the Caribbean. We got to compete against three
hundred million dollar movies and they have the power to
advertise a trailer in every television show out there. We
got to rely on word of mouth. God's Not Dead
was an anomaly. I mean that two million dollar movie
to become that big hit was just a godsend. But
(11:57):
what If, Trust me, it's a better movie. I talk
about it all at time. I do a lot of
speaking events, and they noticed that there was a big
pickup in streaming of that movie over the last six
seven years. And Dallas called me up and said, hey,
we're going to release this movie. Are you on board?
And I said, definitely, I'm on board. You know how
much I love the movie. And Dallas says his kids,
I always say, it's the best thing he's ever done.
And of course he's got that massive hit, The Chosen
(12:18):
going right now and with his following and hopefully with
you know, I got about four million followers and all
my social media sites that people will fill up the theater. Guys,
we need to fill them up because we'll get more
than just two days.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Again, what If came out fifteen years ago, and think
about the last fifteen years, so many amazing faith based films,
And that's not an accident. That was very much a plan, wasn't.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
It, No question, no question? And I think what If
and God's Not Dead were really at the forefront of that,
because you know, you look at the Irwin Brothers, that
Kendrick Fiessons have exploded through these production offices, that companies
that want to do movies that are family friendly, and
it's it's going to keep on growing. We had such
a good time filming this. I think my first faith
movie was called Avenging Angel for Hallmark, who was a Western.
I knew after God's Not Dead that this is the
(12:59):
road that I've been intended to be on. So this
is my what if moment after what If and God
I'm dead, that these are the things that I got
to keep doing. I got my what if and I realized, Okay,
I'm going to live this what if again.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
The movie what If in theaters for a few select nights,
and I'm going to tell you more about that. I'll
put a link to make it easy to find. But Kevin,
you've been in so many amazing movies. Are there some
projects you've been a part of that maybe didn't get
the spotlight that they deserved.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Yeah? I think it Left to Be Light. Left to
Be Light actually did very very well in Peters for
an independent movie. It did. It did beyond what they
were predicting. What I make theametrical wise and my wife
wrote that one I directed. I Starnut Cheese in the movie.
My kids are in it. It's a it's I play
It's a God's not that type of movie, but one
one large, large step higher. I play one of the
(13:45):
world's greatest atheists, and I did come up. It's my
latest book is called a Boarding God, and I have
a life changing epiphany that challenges my worldview. It's sort
of got a what it feel to it as well.
And that's a great movie. I'm Let to Be Light.
You can get that one that's available everywhere. You can
go to Sorbo Studios dot com and get an autograph
copy off. You want another one I did called Miracle
(14:06):
eas Texas with John Ratzenberger. Again, great movie. My wife's
in that one as well. True stories set in nineteen
thirty about the largest spawn oil finding the history of
the world, right in the heart of the depression. Very
good movie, very fun movie. It was Luke Oster Junior's
last movie he did before he passed away. I did
another movie called Left Beyond, Rise of the Antichrist, which
should have been huge. I mean that's had such a
huge following before. It's just once again, it was just
(14:28):
lack of promotional money on it left beyond. Rise of
the Antichrist came out in theaters. What a year and
a half goes well? I got four of the movies
coming out this year. I got three documentaries coming out.
I'm shooting a movie right now with Dean Kane. We
got Hercules and Superman shooting a faith based golf movie
called Holy One, so it's gonna be fun. I got
a night shoot tonight on that one starting. So yeah,
(14:50):
I'm staying busy and I'm blessed to keep doing the
movies that people tell me they want me to keep doing.
So I get stopped all the time. And it's not
because the Hercules. It's God's not Dead and what.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I love it again? The film but if back on
the big screen tomorrow night and Thursday night. I've got
a link to all of the information in the show

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Everybody know that Reagan had of love for jellybeans.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Just love the jellybelly jellybeans.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, yep, And it helped him And that's because it
helped him stop smoking in the sixties. Oh okay, they
they eased the nicotine cravings, and licorice was his favorite flavor.
Mine too, the black Oh my gosh, so good.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
It tastes like annis.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
At about that same time, the Rowland family California candymakers
began sending the then governor, because that's what he was
at the time, twenty pound bag shipments of jelly beans
twenty pounds a month, holy to help him kick his
tobacco habit.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
How bad was that habit?
Speaker 3 (17:13):
To honor him when he became the president, Jellybelly sent
Reagan seven thousand pounds of red, white, and blue jelly
beans for his nineteen eighty one inauguration. Isn't that that?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
It is pretty cool?
Speaker 3 (17:24):
And the blueberry jelly bean was invented just for this,
No kidding. They Reagan loved the patriotic jelly beans, but
licorice is still was still his favorite. And I too,
and I'm not the only one. Reagan and I weren't
the only ones, apparently, because they sell full bags of
just the black Nickers jelly beans are so good.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Yeah, yeah, I'm not a fan, but that's just me.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Yeah, all right, that's news to me.

Guess blues?
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Guests blue? Yes, not mine?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yeah? What is your favorite color orange? What is my

our wedding colors were yellow and blue because you thought
yours was yellow and you thought mine was blood.

Yellow is a very very close second, but I have
recently gotten more into orange.

kick to the iconic blue box. Early tasters say the
pizza inspired Mac delivers on both aroma and flavor, making
it a must try for fans of the cheesy, carb
filled comfort food. So I have a question for you, Heidi,
Would you try that?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
No, So, no interest in trying that at all.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
If somebody at you don't mess with Mother Nature. If
somebody at Kraft Mac and Cheese headquarters was listening to

would say, no, thanks.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
I would not try it. Sounds nasty.

for you, Heidi. Doing this before a meal makes you
eat twenty five percent more. What is it? Oh, I
don't do this but you do well, I would you
guess that.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Because I eat a lot more if I drink wine.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Drink wine is the answer I was given. I was
in the middle of giving you a clue and you
guess it before I even got those words out.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Now it has that effect on twenty five percent more. Yeah,
here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Look at me. Imagine how fat I would be if
I drank wine before I ate.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Why do you think? I tell you? And men are
so robust and jolly.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
He Between seventeen thirty two and seventeen fifty eight, Benjamin
Franklin published an annual almanac, but he used a fake name,
Poor Richard, and it was called the Poor Richard Almanac.
And I've got some which I'll have to do over
two days cause some really good words of advice that
we're in this early.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Early derise healthy, wealthy and wise.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Fish and visitors stink after three days. Yes, God helps
those that help themselves.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
The noblest question of the world is what good can
I do in it?
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Yeah, yeah, you kind of live by that.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
I do. I like a lot of them.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
A good example is the best sermon. So yeah, if
you are going to church but you're not acting like
a Christian, you're not spreading that.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
That is very true.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
There was never a good There is never a good
war or a bad piece.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
I do too. He that lieth down with dogs shall
rise up with fleas. Work as if you will live
one hundred years, Pray as if you will die tomorrow.
And this is actually my favorite quote. I have this
as my Facebook like you know it says your favorite
quote on your Facebook page? This is mine. They who
can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary
(23:42):
safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Well look at that, heid, I love that quote. That's
what We're gonna have more of those tomorrow. Yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Time on for the list we started this last week.
It's called movies that are better than the books. We
had Jurassic Park, the Talented Mister Ripley, and we're gonna
move on to the next one here Tinker tailor Soldier Spy.
So this is twenty eleven either. Yeah, Gary Oldman is
in this film.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
And apparently so talented.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Apparently it is way better than the book. The Devilwaar's
Prada a movie. The movie is sharper than the book's workplace,
Like everything in the book was okay. But they say
when they did the movie Knockout cast Meryl Street Van Hathaway,
Yeah and uh yeah another one on the social network.
So there was a book. I didn't even know there
was a book about that, but they say, this is
(25:08):
actually so much better. And there were points for timber
justin Timberlake playing Sean Parker in that he was the
guy that had Napster back then. And then we got
one more clear and present danger. Tom Clancy's doorstop of
a novel got trimmed. It was a thick, really big
book and they're like, Okay, we're gonna just take the
best of the best. And then Harrison Ford made it pop.
(25:30):
So and we had mentioned one that's not on the
list was Forrest Gump. Yeah, is one that Again I
read the book and I was like, wow, this is
so completely different than the movie. That is the list
on The John and Heidi Show. The show Thank you
for listening to The John and Heidie Show. Brought to
you went part by my pillow dot com promo code Happy.
(25:50):
I use my pillow each and every night and I
wake up happy. If you would like to try it,
be sure to check it out now MyPillow dot com
use promo code Happy. We always like to wrap things
up around here with good news, and this is an
adorable story. Abandoned and blind, a baby moose's journey is
melting hearts all across Canada. Yeah, heartwarming wildlife rescue story
(26:12):
from Ontario. Two month old blind moose calf named Cedar
is getting a second chance at life thanks to the
quick action of a local rescue group and the support
of the Toronto Zoo. Cedar was discovered wandering alone on
a rural road with no mother anywhere inside. His rescuers
knew his chances of survival were pretty slim without some
(26:33):
immediate intervention. The rescuers were from Holly's Haven Wildlife Rescue.
The moose calf was blind and wandering on its own
with no sight of mother anywhere around, which again, that's
very sad. So they determined that he had a tiny
bit of sight in one eye, but completely blind in
the other eye. So they set up a little encampment
for this critter, this moose, they said they couldn't be
(26:55):
taken out of the wild and put him in a
zoo right away, the only way a native Canadian animal
like a moose, could end up in an enclosure is
if it's deemed unfit to be released back into the wild.
So they're like, we got to set this temporary thing
up first and then we'll see and then as it
turns out, they're like, you know what, this is probably
a case where he needs to be somewhere where we
(27:15):
can care for him. So again, quite the story, and
I'm scrolling through this really quickly. If you would like
to read the entire story, I've got a link to it.
