I've got Elena Wall joining me. She's been in a
bunch of television shows and she's got a new one
out called Middlehood, and this is the thing. It looks
like they've been working on this for a bit and
it's like self funded, but it looks amazing. It looks
really really good, very high quality and a lot of
big names. And again we're gonna chat with her coming
up in just a little bit. It's streaming now on

(00:51):

Now. Surveys and studies and such research shows men who
sleep beside their spouse experience deeper, more restorative sleep. How
while sharing a bed with a loving partner increases levels
of oxytocin, the bonding hormone, which decreases stress hormones and
promotes calm, steady breathing and a heart rate throughout the night.

(02:28):
Men also report feelings safe for Heidi, more relaxed and
emotionally secure when sleeping next to their wife. On the
other hand, another study found that women who sleep with
their dog experience better sleep quality than those who share
a bed with their human partner. So men I share
bed with both. Men love to be with their wife

(02:49):
and women love to be with their dogs. I love
to be with them. If you had to choose mir
or the dogs, who's sleeping on the sofa mid dogs?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Would they really?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (03:01):
If I may.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I had to choose, yeah, well that's good, but you
would never make me choose.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I wouldn't make it choose the dogs. I do, but
I'm glad to know that I would win, all right,

There are people higher up in the organization than I am.
I don't know, if you know.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I'm glad they're keeping it a man because there was
some rumors that they were going to try to switch
that up.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
So Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ is going to
be split into two films. Both parts will come out
in twenty twenty seven. Part one slated for good Friday,
March twenty six, Part two set for forty days later

ten thousand and one hundred thousand birds every year in
the UK? Interestingly painting, if you paint one of the
blades of the wind turbine black, it can reduce bird

deaths by seventy percent. So just one what if you
paint all on that color with that?

Speaker 3 (05:27):
I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
That's weird, and I think ten thousand to one hundred

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Now you are scoop of the day. According to a survey,
the first thing men notice about a woman is their eyes.
Do you believe that? Yes, the first thing men notice
about a woman is their eyes. The first thing women
notice about a man is that they're a bunch of lives.
Because I don't think that's true. I don't think that.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
I think that's true.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
You think that the first thing men are looking at
is their eyes?

Speaker 3 (07:06):
I think that's the first thing that men notice.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
They're looking at their face. Maybe I just don't know
that that's accurate.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
So John, what is the first thing?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
I'm just telling you as a man, I noticed your eyes?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
No, no, no, no, tell me what is the first thing?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yours? Smile? What did you think I was talking?

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Right?

Speaker 2 (07:24):
A zoom? Denmark has made a wild request. This is
so weird. I almost didn't read this. They want you
to donate your unwanted pet, but not for adoption, to
feed to the lions and the lynxes. Yeah, this is
a true story.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, they're not saying donate your dead pets. They're saying
donate old like if you wanted pets and unwanted to
donate them, and they're going to feed them.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Aliborg Zoo is asking for chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, and
even small horses to be handed over so they can
be gently euthanized and serve up as dinner for their predators.
The reasoning to mimic the natural chain food. I'm sorry,
the natural food chain. There's no chain food to euthanize them.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
That's not going to mimic the food chain.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well. The Facebook post announced this complete with a photo
of a snarling links because well why not. Some people
are praising the zoo for their naturalistic approach, others, understandably
are mortified. Deputy Director of the Zoo, Pia Nielsen said
in a statement that the initiative has been in place
for years and it is a common practice in Denmark,
so apparently they've been doing this for a long time.

(08:27):
Somebody just finally saw it on their website and they're like,
what that is? Bizarre screwing of the day on The
John and Heidie Show, The Hedi Show. Thank you so

(08:49):
you for listening to The John and Heidi Show on
a Wednesday. Excited a visit right now with veteran actress
Elena Wall and we're going to talk to her about
a new project called Middlehood. But first, Elena, take a
look at this list of things you've had a chance
to do. La Law, Quantum Leap, NYPD Blue, Matt About You,
twenty one Jump Street, Melrose Place. That's just a tiny
little fraction of the amazing list you have. You've had

(09:11):
a chance to do a lot of fun projects, haven't you.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yes, I've had a storied career.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
I love that. And you're not done yet, because you've
got a new project out right now. It's streaming as
we speak, Middlehood. For folks that haven't heard of this,
let's talk a little bit about this program.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Middlehood is the character where I play is sort of
in middle life and asking all the questions that we do,
like how do I take care of my aging parents,
how do I help my marriage and or end it?
How do I navigate this job world where you know
it's not so easy anymore if you maybe say the

(09:47):
wrong thing or you stand up for yourself, and it
just squarely lands you in the middle of this immigrant
family during a holiday season when they're dealing with all.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Of that in Middlehood, again, is streaming right now. When
did you actually film Middlehood? How long ago did you
guys start working on this project.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
We started pre pandemic late twenty nineteen, and then we
got shot two episodes and we were like, oh, we're
going to take this out in the world. We're going
to sell it. It's going to be great, and we're
going to make the whole season, and that didn't happen,
and then it was COVID, and so Michelle Plermo, the
writer director, raised the money on her own, which kind

(10:31):
of makes this TV show exceptional and different, and one
of a kind is that we're one hundred percent independently produced,
one hundred percent independently funded. There is no studio backing,
so it's it's the like odd bird, this doesn't happen.
This is the new way TV is going to get made.
And I want to say we're the first, so you know,

(10:51):
kudos to Michelle. And then over the next the course
of the next two years, we'd shoot, we'd stop, we'd
get shut down, we'd start again. It was very complicated,
but we finished it.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Now, there have been people self funding movies and TV
shows for years, but they don't necessarily turn out like
this one. This is a whole different caliber, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Yeah, I'm telling you it looks like the real deal.
Professionals like the optics. The way it looks, the way
it sounds, you would have thought we had some big
studio behind us. I mean, it's so well done again.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Middlehood is streaming right now for free on Plex and
we'll chat about that again here in a second. But well,
I've got you on the line. Are there other projects
that you're working on? I know how Hollywood is. Sometimes
it's hashash but anything that we can talk about now.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Ooh. I'm the QT actually right now hoping to get
eyeballs on this one because we really want to get
season two. So that's where my heart is and my
energy is is trying to gather audiences and get them,
you know, to watch the show, because I think if
we can get a steam roll here and get some
some energy behind it, I do think people are going

(12:02):
to want to know what happens to these people, these characters.
But I'm also getting ready to do a camino, which
I didn't know anything about, but where you do it
like kind of a pilgrimage and you walk across Spain
or you come from Portugal or you come from France
and you do this long sojourn to end up in
Santiago de Compostella in a cathedral. And I'm super excited

(12:26):
about walking one hundred and twenty five miles.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
That sounds absolutely amazing. Now, I don't know if I
could make it one hundred and twenty five miles, but
it sounds like quite the adventure.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Yeah, over thirteen days, so you know, don't make me
out to be some hero, but you know it's going
to be it's going to be difficult, and we're trained
for it, and I'm going with a girlfriend. I'm super excited.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
That's awesome. Again. Our guest today is Elena Wall, and
we've been visiting about her new project Middlehood. It's a
new TV series and where is the best place for
someone to go if they want to watch it?

Speaker 4 (12:57):
So you can see it on Amazon Prime Video and
you can see it for free on Plex, and we're
coming soon to YouTube TV, and I think we'll be
on a couple of other platforms. I don't have those
names right now, but it's starting the words getting out.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I love it and we'll do our part to get
the word out as well. Elena Wall has been our guest. Elena,
thank you so much for taking the time to chat.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Thank you, thank you so much for having me. And
you have a great day.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
John, Absolutely, and you get some comfortable shoes for that
trek across Spain.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Oh yeah, I got to break them in again.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Our guest today has been Elena Wall and the program
where were chatting about is Middlehood. It's a new series
on Prime Video. It's also available for free on Plex
and I've got a link to the trailer in the
show notes for today at John Anddeidishow dot com. Jace

you're going to get this one, because I don't think
you've even seen this movie. It's official, old buddy, I'm
a has been twenty nineteen, once upon a time in Hollywood.
I don't think you know.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
I haven't seen that.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yeah, I saw that. It was actually pretty good.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
I think did I watch that with our son?

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Probably?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Yeah, I think. I think maybe we went to see
that because he wanted to see it, or somebody did.
I don't remember what I saw it with. I saw
somewhere with with somebody that was not my wife. Hopefully
it was a guy. Otherwise I'm in trouble right. That

Speaker 3 (15:14):
We're gonna talk a little bit about mar A Lago. Okay,
beautiful property. The person who owned it before was Marjorie Merriweather.
She was the post serial heiress. She died in nineteen
seventy three. Oh I didn't know at that time. She
bequeathed mar A Lago to her Florida state to the
federal government to use as a site for state visits

(15:35):
for foreign dignitaries, or as the Winter white House, which
they called it. She also left a sum of money
to provide for the upkeep of the estate, but it
wasn't enough to cover the actual costs of running the palace.
Congress passed legislation to return mar A Lago to the
post estate. Donald Trump bought it from the estate in
nineteen eighty five and turned it into his Winter white

(15:58):
House after he was a president in twenty sixteen.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Well, it became what she wanted it to be.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
That's right, Yeah, it did. I've read stuff about this before,
and I guess there's like there's like a whole there's
a skiff room, and I'm like, the whole bit everything
that you would need at the actual White House is
at mar A Lago. So it's pretty fitting.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Yeah, it is, And that's news to me.

Speaker 2 (16:18):

Fun fact for you, Heidi, what is that John? A
species of earthworm in Australia grows up to ten feet
in length. Can you imagine going out and seeing a
that's ten feet long?

Speaker 4 (17:01):
No?

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Wow? Fun fact for a Heidi, what's that John? The
world record for the fastest one hundred meter run in
high heels is thirteen point five five seven seconds. What
a bizarre I know, competition, Uh huh, but somebody did it.
Fun fact for you Hide John. There's more fresh water
in the atmosphere than all of Earth's rivers combined. How

(17:22):
wild is that? That's cool? Fun fact for a Hydie John.
Around fifty percent of English words come from French, so
French words were like, Eh, We're gonna just take that.
And our final fun fact for you Heidings. John, there
are six communities in the state of Tennessee that have
the same name Shiloh. So if you're from Shiloh, Tennessee,
which Shiloh, Tennessee are you from? Several fun facts now

(17:45):
you know. Thanks for listening to The John and Heidi Show.

Now some weird news. In a small community room in
a Toronto high rise, a doctor caused a stir by
writing prescriptions. But they weren't for pills. They were four

(18:12):
air conditioners. Yeah. As the summer was heating up, doctor
Samantha Green set up a pop up ac clinic where
she met with residents, asked questions about their health and
their living conditions, and if it made medical sense, handed
them a note saying you need a brand new air
conditioner covered by social assistance. Oh cool for people on
that program, the City of Toronto will help pay for
a cooling unit. If a doctor says it's medically necessary

(18:35):
the problem, though most people have no idea this benefit
even exists, so she decided to bring the clinic to
the people. The goal was to help vulnerable people stay
safe during the summer heat. The doc says the heat
can make some health conditions worse, so it can he
be deadly for some, especially for those with breathing problems
and mental health challenges. People living in older, poorly ventilated
buildings are especially at high risk. So I think it's

(18:57):
cool that they have that. Does that sound weird description
for an air conditioner?

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Hey, if it'll take care of the problem, I think
it's fantastic.

not take me twenty minutes. Shower, no, get ready for bed. Yeah,
you have a whole regiment. That's why she looks younger
than me. She's older than me, but she looks younger
than me. I've said many times, my face looks like
an old dirty catchersmith. She's got like a beautiful all
the creams and the potions and stuff.

Time now for something special with Heidi Small What she
got for me?

Speaker 3 (20:38):
I found another very bizarre place that I would really
like to go what's and explore? It's called hiking dolls
Head Trail.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Ooh, well, I'm not much of a hiker.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
But this I would go on.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
A man named Joel Slayton was bored in twenty eleven
and started exploring the urban forests and this is like
outside of Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
While hiking, he picked up a lot of trash or
found objects like toys, car parts that have piled up
after years of people just dumping stuffy illegally. With those objects,
he would craft disturbing little art displays and then it
would scatter them along the two and a half mile trail.
One day he found ahead of a doll and the

(21:19):
phrase Doll's Head Trail just kind of popped into his head.
Go away. Today's Dollheads Trail is included in Atlanta's official
tourism map, and it's as creepy as it sounds. Says
hikers round a bend and come face to face with
a dirty, eyeless doll that has a body made of sticks. Wow,

(21:39):
and it's got all sorts of weird stuff all over
this thing, and it sounds super super creepy. Slayton said
he's proud of his strange creation. And it has an
air of mischief and mystery. And you can create your
own things and put them in there, but it has
to be stuff you found in the area. Can't steal

(22:00):
stuff from some of the other creations.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
So you can't bring your own right. Well, there you go.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I think it's so fun. I would go to this.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
I bet you would. I would come with That is

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Time out for the list. We started this list yesterday.
I've got the whole list in the show notes and
again yesterday's and today's. But baseball names. These are actual
baseball players, and these are not people's nicknames. These are
their real names. And some of them are kind of interesting,
like Hunter Pence, I don't know, that's kind of a
cool name. It's Chase Utey, Blake Snelldnte bishe Byron Buxton,

(23:09):
Christian Yellick, Felix Hernandez, Orlando Cabrera, Carlos Beltron, Zach Grenk.
Most of these just sound like Xander Bogart's name. But
these were Oh and there's another Chase Utelee. Maybe they
just put them on here twice, and then another Blake
Shell or Blake Snell. So no, they just put both

(23:30):
of those on here twice. So I don't know if
I did that or if they did that. I copy
and paste all this stuff, so it might have been me.
But the reason that this list exists there was a
Japanese video game that was making up fake names, and
they were inspired by names like these, and then they
just made up their own so you can read the
whole thing in the show notes for today at John

We always like to wrap things up around here with

(24:12):
good news, and I think this is good news. A
loyal dog guides an injured owner to safety after a
cliff accident in the Utah Mountains. Jacob Schmidt set out
on a hunting trip in the mountains in Utah, and
he had no idea his survival would depend on the
loyalty of his best friend, his dog, Buddy Love Dogs.
Thirty four year old driving his side by side along

(24:33):
a narrow mountain trail when the vehicle lost control and
tumbled down a cliff, flipping more than a dozen times.
He was thrown out midfall, left with a broken leg,
two fractured ankles, and several broken ribs. His phone and
radio were lost in the wreck, but he found himself stranded,
now injured and completely alone. But he wasn't alone. You
know why it is done. Yeah, as German short haired pointer.

(24:56):
Buddy had been riding safely in the back. When Jacob
came to, Buddy was standing nearby, completely unharmed. He was
sort of just standing there staring at me, without a scratch.
It almost makes me emotional. With daylight fading and no
way to call for help, Jacob knew he had to act.
He splinted his own leg and began a painful journey
down the mountain. For eleven hours, he crawled through the night,

(25:20):
Buddy faithfully by his side. The only light guiding them
was from the small glow on Buddy's collar. The quiet
presence kept Jacob moving. Sunrise, Jacob made it to his
vehicle and drove to a nearby diner, where a woman
dialed nine to one one and got the healthy eleven hours.
Can you even imagine? I don't want to do something
fun for eleven hours? I certainly don't want to do that. No,

(25:43):
that is horrible. It is horrible. I've got a link
to the story if you'd like to read it in
the show notes for today at Johnndeidishow dot com time
