And today I've got a young lady who is an
actress who is in the Judy Tanuda story.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I had heard they were making that.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
And it's like a short film and I'm excited to
visit with this young lady. Her name is Taylor Blackwell,
very talented young lady, and I'm excited to chat with
her a little bit about this project and some of
the other things she's working on.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Today is one of my favorite reasons to party.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Oh that's wine, right.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Red wine? I absolutely love.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
So what kind of drink do you have for that today?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Enough said?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
No, I don't have a link to that drinks or
eight one, but.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I will be celebrating.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
All right, Well, there we go. I'll celebrate with you.
Is that that wine that tastes horrible?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
It's that you think taste hard? I think it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I tried someone, so I was like, why would anybody?
I mean like on purpose? I mean why? That is
today's reason to party on the John and Heidi Show.

playing video games gained an extra two point five IQ
points over two years, even after factoring in genetics and
socioeconomic backgrounds. TV and social media show no effect suggested

(03:48):
I think this is actually last week. I don't think
this was this weekend. I think it was last weekend.
I think I'm a little bit behind on stuff. Anyway,
they both did okay. James Gunn is shutting down rumors
about Robin appearing in the next Batman Part two. Apparently
people online are saying that there's going to be this
person or that person, and he's like, no, that.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Man just doesn't Robin doesn't get enough love.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
On Nohing, I agree. And Scott Cooper's biopic Springsteen Deliver
Me from Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White, we'll finally premiere
at the Spotlight Gala in the New York Film Festival
September twenty eighth. They had all kinds of issues with
that trying to get that ready to go so and
I was like, now they finally have it, and then
Bruce Springsteen came out and made a bunch of people mad.
(04:26):
So I'm like, I bet Scott Cooper super excited about
the timing on all of that, But we'll see. I
think it'll probably still do really well with the super fans,
big screen, little screen. Right here on the John and

Speaker 3 (05:13):
I did not.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Due to being rich in potassium, every banana is actually
slightly radioactive thanks to containing the natural isotope potassium forty. Interestingly,
your body contains around sixteen milligrams of potassium forty, meaning
you are two hundred and eighty times more radioactive than
a banana. Okay, so any excess potassium forty you gained
(05:34):
from the banana is excreted out within a few hours,
so you don't have to worry about it. They're all
still just fine. We don't know everything, but now we
know this.

Hei what you got, Hidie.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
When I was a kid, I was afraid of the dark.
Now the electricity bill makes me afraid of the light.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I can relate. Do you remember what it was like
to be a kid and not have bills?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Oh, my gosh, it was wonderful.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
What was the first bill to hay to go to school? Yeah,
that's true.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Car insurance.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
That was your first bill. Yeah, it was either car
insurance or my cell phone way back in the day.
I had a cell phone before most people did because
I was a nerd. But I probably had car insurance
before that. I don't know how he got way off
track on that, but this has been the joke of
the day.

Time out for the scoop of the day. The US
Postal Service reported a loss in the third quarter. How
much do you suppose that quarter lost? I have no
IDEA three point one billion, Yeah, that's a that's a
pretty good chunk of money, if you ask me. But
I think that that's kind of the the number. That's
what they've been doing. So hopefully they can get that
underway and get it everything all squared away, and maybe
(07:25):
that you need to increases postage stamp costs. How much
are the what's the stamp costs?
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Lots?
Speaker 2 (07:32):
And Oreo and Reeses have teamed up for a sweet
collab that fans have been begging for. First of all,
do you like Oreos?
Speaker 3 (07:39):
I love Oreos?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Do you like Raeses?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I love?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Despite being owned by different companies, these two have come
together Oreo by Mondelez and Riese's by Hershey. I didn't
know Ries's was by Hershey. I thought those were two
different things. But they hooked up to launch two new
treats blending their iconic flavors together. The first creation is
the Reese's Oreo Cup peanut butter cup wrapped in an
Oreo chocolate and white cream filling with cookie crumbs.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yum.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
The second is Oreo's release of a twenty fourteen cookie
that used Reese's peanut butter in addition to Oreo cookie
crumbs in the filling. Okay, so twenty fourteen. Why are
we talking about this eleven years later?
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Maybe they're re releasing it could be.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I don't know. Anyway, this has been your scoop of
the day on The John and Heidi.

Super excited to visit right now with Taylor Blackwell, and
we're going to talk about a new movie called It Happened,
The Judy Tanuda Story. And I was telling you ahead
(08:52):
of time. We had a chance to visit with Judy
Tanuda on this program and she was such a sweetheart
and you get to portray her in this movie.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Don't you really do. I also wrote the film and
directed it, so I feel I know Judy very well
at this point, although I never got to meet her
in the flesh.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah. Growing up, you know, I'm a big fan of comedy,
so I always always loved comedy. And I remember a
comedy special that came out many years ago, and it
was she was on there with several other female comics,
and it was so completely different than anything I'd ever
seen before. And of all the comics on there, she
was so different than the others, and she stood out
in a good way, and she was just so much
fun to watch. And I'll bet you had a blast
(09:32):
performing as her and also writing the movie about her.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
I mean, that's really what drew me to working on
this project, was she just seems like such a fun
character to portray. I often play more or less the
same character. I'm twenty six year years old, but I
played a teenager often and so I have a lot
of the same storylines kind of thrown my way, and
(09:56):
I loved those experiences. But this was at landish and
silly and loud and brash and just so many different
colors that I, like I said, don't normally get to experience,
so it was a real gift.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well, and I see on this project. Alan Tudic worked
with you on this. We've talked to him on the
program as well. Another amazing person. And did you guys
know each other before this project or is this your
first chance to work together?
Speaker 5 (10:20):
I love that you talked to Alan. Yes, we worked
together previously on the show Resident Alien, which she's the
star of. Oh yeah, it's the show on Sci Fi
and it's also on Netflix now. They just started airing
the fourth season.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Oh really, And.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
We've done a couple of episodes of back together. And
I play his daughter on the show.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Wow, it's fun.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
He plays the pope in our films. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, And here's the thing. I've seen it and I've
seen you and I didn't even know that was you.
You do such a good job playing Judy Tanuda in
this that I see. I did anyone connect it out?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
So that's really cool, that's funny.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Yeah, I've been to be fair, I look very different
in Resident Alien. I know a green wave on that show,
and I like a bit younger. Well, like I said,
I play a teenager quite often, and they this movie.
I'm playing a little bit older in the Judy film,
so I'm wearing a little bit more makeup than usual.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
For fans of Judy Tanuda, I guarantee they're going to
rush right out and see it. But for people who
maybe didn't necessarily, you know, know her, or they weren't
huge fans, for why should they get out and see it?
Because they should? Shouldn't think I like to.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Think so, but I'm a little bit biased. But the
night feedback we've been getting from people who weren't familiar
with Judy was that it made them want to go
afterward and learn more about her. And several people I
know who have seen the film have said, after I
saw your movie, I started watching clips of her on
YouTube and specials, and she was just such a pioneer
(11:45):
in the world of comedy and really gone too soon,
and so inventive and creative and fun that I think
people who, like you said, know her and are familiar
with her will enjoy the film, and then hopefully the
people who aren't too also walk away wanting to know more.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
And when we had a chance to visit with her,
she had just had a video that went viral. She
was at the time cancer survivor, and she was, you know,
again taking her brand of humor and finding a way
to even make that interesting and fun and you know,
spread the word and let people know. So again, you know,
it was a different time in her life from the
time when I first saw her in movies and doing
(12:23):
comedy specials. But again, seemed like just such a sweetheart,
such a wonderful person. And thank you very much for
doing what you're doing to honor her. I think that's amazing.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Oh, it's such an honor to get to tell her
story and like I said, selfishly, just such a delicious
character I get to dive into. So it was a
gift in so many ways. And also now to be
able to connect with her family and friends through the
process of making this film. It's an experience I really treasured.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
And I love the name of the movie as well,
because that again for fans of Judy Tanuda, it's called
it Happened the Judy Tanuda Story. But quite often one
of her punchlines would be it could happen.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
She would just do it in her special way, and
she would make it really you know, again, whatever she
was talking about, would you know this outlandish thing, but
she would it could happen, and I love that you
named it it happened. That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
The idea of the film is Judy lived such a full,
adventurous life, and throughout the film we have that tagline
it could happen. But at the end where I do say,
and it did happen, because all of these things really
were true and she really made them happen for herself.
Speaker 2 (13:35):

of the information in the show notes for today at

Speaker 2 (14:25):
No, it's legally blonde? Oh, what like it's hard? So
I don't know. Apparently that's a quote from something in
that movie.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Okay, I think I may delivered that wrong.

I probably delivered it way wrong. I said all the

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
She was married to George Burns, who was a delight.
She ran for president in nineteen forty. Did she really
on the surprise party ticket?
Speaker 2 (15:19):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Isn't that adorable?
Speaker 2 (15:21):
That's really cool.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
She went on a thirty four city whistlestop trained tour
along with her mascot, a kangaroo named Laura Nice. She
claimed to have invented the so on campaign pin so
that a voter can't change his mind.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
I love that. That's cool.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Among her more memorable campaign promises was to make Congress
work on commission. When the country prospers, She said Congress
would get ten percent of the additional take.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Well, think about that.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
I think that's a great idea.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Actually, they would be losing money every year.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Obviously she did not win, but it was. It was
just a fun little thing. That is fun, and that's
news to me.

to the end of the dinosaurs set seventy percent of
the world's forests on fire, so nobody. Nobody's here to
see that.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
But they they know that.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
The guess yeah calculated that. Fun fact for a heading
touch on insects shiver when they're cold. I really yeah yeah.
Fun fact for you, Heiding to John. Fire most faster
when it's going uphill. Because the flames are going up
and going downhill, it go slower. Fun fact for you, Heidie.
The word hipster goes all the way back to the
nineteen thirties. It was used to refer to somebody who
(17:09):
was involved in the jazz scene.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
They were really hipsters, yet I had no idea it
was around that lone.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
And our final fun fact for you, Heidi John. Some
bars and some pubs in German. In Germany rather offer
speak becan speak. Becon is a sink specifically designed for vomiting.
Speaker 3 (17:29):

(17:55):
weird news. For some people watching others, fidget isn't just annoying,
it's on bearable. Common reaction affecting about one in three
people is known as miss kinesia. Missokinesia meaning hatred of movements.
It's a visual counterpart to misophobia, where certain repetitive sounds
trigger irritation. Missokinesia has only recently gotten scientific attention, it
(18:20):
surprisingly is widespread. Researchers say the discomfort comes from not
from the noise, but from simply seeing somebody tap or
bounce or squirm.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
And Heidi doesn't like it because like I would bounce
my knee.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Yeah, it doesn't bother me, and.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
It makes everyday moments unexpectedly stressful for those who are affected.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
It doesn't stress me out, but it does bother like
it just annoys me. It's not horrible, John does.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
She was clicking a pen. I grabbed one one, but
she she does that all the time. Over there. I'm
like the radio. You can hear that background. So if
you ever wonder what that noise is, it's her weird
news on the John and High Show. My Pillows having

(19:33):
question of the day, nearly half of parents, Heidi have
told their kids this lie. What is it? Half half
of parents told kids this lie. It is a technological lie.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
If you turn on the light in the car, we're
gonna get an accident.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
No, I think every parent told us that, and I
don't think that's true. Is the answer is sorry, WiFi
is not working. Oh so they like turn off the
Wi Fi so their kids will stay off their phones.
So yeah, half a parents have done that. I never
thought to do it because I'm busy on my phone.
Several fun things that we learned today. That is your

Time off for something special with Heidi Small. What do
you have for us today?
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Heidi?
Speaker 3 (20:27):
One enduring American misconception is that officials at Ellis Island
often changed the names of immigrants because they couldn't pronounce
or spell the foreign names. Okay, some immigrants undoubtedly changed
their names when they entered the United States. Most were
not the result of ignorant Ellis Island employees as people.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
They got here and decided to change.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Your family changed from Small a German name. A German
name too, just small.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, it was like s h m ahl something like that.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
My family came here with the name Brownschwag and for
whatever reason, decided to keep the name Brownswag. I kind
of wish they would have changed to just brown. Maybe
would have been nice.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Heidi's maid name rather not nickname. Heide's maiden name is
Heidi Brownschwag. Yep, I don't get much more.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
That's very German.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
I had to wear an id bracelet when I was
in grade school to learn how to because you had
to write your full name out on your papers. I
had to look at it.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Yea.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
So it would have been nice have just been shortened
to just brown.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yeah, that would have been great. Well, that is something
special with Heidi Small.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Technically, anything with mass contains calories, even things that are
not food. So some people have crunched the numbers to
figure out how many calories are in these things. Then
I'm going to tell you on the radio, do not
eat these But if you wondered how many calories are
in things like a crayon or some coal or whatever,
we're going to tell you so. But I'm going to
tell you first again, do not eat these things. So,
(22:23):
how much in a gallon of gasoline thirty one thousand calories.
It's a lot of calories. Wow, if you eat an
ounce of coal two hundred thousand calories dirt, you'd have
to eat fifteen pounds of dirt to even get six calories. Ooh,
so it's yeah, dirt's good for you. Apparently, cotton balls
four calories each, grass clippings one calorie per ounce, human
(22:44):
breast milk ten calories in a cup, human hair one
hundred and forty calories if you eat somebody's entire head
of hair. Apparently, oh, stainless steel fork. If you could
find a way to eat at fifteen calories, a nine
millimeters bullet, slightly less than one calorie eggshells about two
calories per egg, and a crayon fifty calories. Jeez, if
(23:05):
your average about one hundred and twenty five thousand calories
in you, Yeah, don't eat people. That's a bad idea,
But there's not twenty five And then they crunch the
numbers to see how many cookies calories there are. On
December twenty fourth, at Santa Eats one hundred and fifteen billion.
So yeah, they had in the midst.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Of a five day fast. Some of that doesn't sound
too bad.
Speaker 2 (23:26):

up around here with good news, and I think this
is good news. Do you ever watch it? Like when
back in the day, did you ever watch the TV
show Lassie?
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Not really, I watched it scene it.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yeah, I watched it in reruns. I'm not that old people,
but I did watch it in reruns. This story kind
of somewhat a little bit reminds me of Lassie. Says
something told me to follow him. A pit bull led
a stranger to save two lives. What started as a
normal evening in the park turned into a life saving mission,
all thanks to one determined dog. Gary had just taken
(24:20):
his dog out to play near a Pittsburgh apartment when
an unfamiliar pit bull showed up. He was dragging a
leash behind him, the dog said. He said, he stayed
just out of reach. He was barking and then walking
away and turning back to see like, hey follow me,
come on, Oh that's cool. So the guy finally decides,
Gary goes, you know what, I don't know what's going on,
but there's he puts something in my head very strongly
that this dog wants me to follow him. So he
(24:42):
followed his instincts and he followed the dog, and a
woman pulled over to help join him. So Gary and
the lady they follow this dog, and he led them
to a secluded path behind some tracks, where Gary found
two tents. He said, there was a gentleman lying on
a couch back there, but I couldn't get him to
respond to me, so I called not one. Moments later,
first responders discovered another person hereby, also unresponsible. Oh my gosh, Gary,
(25:06):
who was in recovery from heroin. He said he felt
a deep personal connection to this moment. So these people
might have been overdosed, babe, no, he said. Worried about
the dog's future, he learned from animal control that the
dog would be taken to a pound far from the city,
a place the owners might not be able to reach
or even afford. So he offered to take the dog
home with him. So how cool is that?
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I love that?
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Well?
Speaker 3 (25:29):
You should that dog's a hero loves are smart dog.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Gary said he'll care for the pit bull until the
humans are well enough to reunite with him. The pup
was a little thin, had an eye infection, but Gary
is determined to get this little hero the help that
he needs.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
I love that story.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
I absolutely love that.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Yeah, and if you don't know who Lassie is, look
that up, because it just dawned on me. There's some
people going, what is Lassie? It was a TV show
back in like the sixties. I wasn't born till the seventies,
but I watched it in reruns in the eighties, So
all of those are before some people's time. Time saying
by heide good bye, heide By, Everybody have a great day.
