found one that I am absolutely going to try. It's
a toasted pecan old fashioned and it's so so yummy.
It needs pecans and whiskey and a sugar cube and
angostora bitters. And then you want one of those nice, big,
awesome round ice cubes and it sounds awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Well, there you go. I've got a link to that

asleep as a slow process. I'd takes up to forty
minutes from lights out to dreamland. Do you think that
sounds right for you?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Possibly? I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Depends on the night for me, and sometimes I'm messing
around on my phone. Other times I just I'm out
like a light.

Speaker 3 (02:37):

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Two thousand people in the US were involved in the survey.
They found out that ten fifteen is when they start
to wind down in bed by ten thirty six, but
they don't not off till eleven eighteen. These are the averages.
Nearly half said they wake up several times a week
wishing they had gone to sleep earlier. Biggest delays come
from unfinished chores. Twenty one percent said they stay up
later than they should because late nights are their favorite

(02:58):
time of day. Fifteen percent in it they stay up
late to avoid starting the next workday. What uh the
end result a nightly cycle where good intentions are derailed
by laundry or lingering to do lists, or irresistible pull
of just one more reel or one more show a

Why don't skeletons ever go trick treating?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I don't know why not because they have nobody to
go with? Ha ha ha. I thought it was because
they didn't have any guts, no body to go with.
I see what you did. Very nice. See we both
had a joke today, Yes we neither one was funny.
All right, that is the joke of the day. You

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Time out for the scoop of the day, and we're
going to talk Presley today. Priscilla Presley.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Okay, did you know her law is so pretty well?

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Absolutely? Priscilla Presley's lawyer is denying allegations in a new
fifty million dollar lawsuit filed against her that accuses her
of leading her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley to an early
death in an alleged plot to regain control of the
Elvis Presley estate. Okay. The suit filed by Priscilla's former
business partners claim Priscilla schemed to defraud them, destroy reputations

(07:23):
with unsubstantial, unsub how do you say it, unsubstantialstantiated claims
and exploit Lisa Marie to death to regain control over
Elvis Presley's legacy and assets.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Holy cow.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, that's quite the charge.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Quite the allegations because it's her own daughter.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah. The plaintiff claims Priscilla ignored Lisa Marie's health concerns
at the Golden Globes in twenty twenty Three. Days later,
Lisa Marie suffered a cardiac arrest and died at age
fifty four.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
God.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
So, here's the thing. It's really sad that she passed away,
and again only at age fifty four, very very sad.
But you can't blame all of that on her mother,
because there were some things that she was doing that
was not great for her body, and that's part of
what led to that from what I understand. But again
to say that you drove her to an early death
of fifty.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
That's going to be impossible to prove it.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
I just, yeah, I don't know how that's all going
to go. But they're her lawyers are denying the allegations,
and it's a civil lawsuit, so it's not like she's
going to go to jail. It would be like fines
but million money.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yeah, that whole thing is sad. Scoop of the day
right here on The John and Heidie Show Show. Thank
you so much for listening to The John and Heidie Show,
brought to you in part by jacecasemedical dot com. Do
you have a Ja's case. You can get all of
the details for free right now at jascasemedical dot com.

(08:46):
Doctor Catherine Ramsland is our guest. We're going to talk
about the Serial Killers Apprentice. It recently premiered an investigation discovery.
Doctor Ramsland, how in the world did you get involved
in this whole project?

Speaker 4 (08:56):
So this is a story about a teenage accomplice, one
of two accomplices to Dean Coral, who has been labeled
the candy Man, and he was a sexual predator active
in Houston, Texas from nineteen seventy nineteen seventy three, picking
off teenage boys, torturing them, raping them, and then killing them,

(09:18):
having his accomplices bury them in one of three mass
graves at a boat stall, a lake front, and a beach,
a public beach.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
How did you line this up? It looks like he's
still in prison, Is that right?

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Yeah? Wayne has been in prison for fifty two years,
even though he did kill the killer to end it
and led the police to the bodies that they would
have never found on their own. Nevertheless, he's paying the
price of having been involved. And I had long known
about him. I had an initial impression of him from
a true crime book written fifty years ago, that you know,

(09:54):
he's just this bad kid who brought his friends to
be sacrificed for money and as a as I learned
over the years, and I watched a couple of clips
he talked about his artwork, and I thought he'd be
interesting to talk to because I thought maybe there was
more to the story. And so when I finally did
get a chance to talk to him and see if

(10:15):
he wanted to explore this in detail, he was ready
to do that. He had wanted his story to be told,
but each time he had tried it had been dismissed
or distorted, so he was willing to work with me.
We worked for two years on. It wasn't any kind
of quick thing. He had learned to trust me because

(10:35):
he didn't trust media, and I also had a trust
that he was telling me true story. So there was
a lot of back and forth. But I wanted to
get a sense of what it was like to be
an accomplice to this horrific serial killer, to be groomed
by him, and to be the only accomplaice ever to
have killed the killer to end it. So I wanted

(10:56):
to get that whole story if I could, and.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
The goodness he did finally do the right thing. So
how long were you guys communicating before we see what
we see on this program? Was it months? Was it weeks?
Was it years?

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Well? The documentary actually has a lot of different voices
in it that weren't part of my work. My work
was primarily with Henley. I talked to him for two
years before we started on a book, and continued to
talk to him, and I still talk to him this day,
two or three times a week, so I'd say, as

(11:29):
we got into the documentary, I'd probably been talking to
him for three years.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
So what is that like. You've gotten to know this
guy on a personal level, but you know he's done
some horrific things.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Yeah, but it's easier talking to a compliant accomplice who
did not want to be part of this than it
is talking to a serial killer who's proud of his work.
And BTK was another demist. Raider was another one I
spent a lot of time talking with. We did five
years on his story, and that was harder to bear

(12:01):
than someone who really didn't want to, who was full
of remorse, who was horrified by what he had participated in.
And I think that's a lot easier to talk to
someone like that as a conscience.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Let's talk about your background. What led you to doing
this for a living, because this is an interesting field
of work.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah, I think it more chose me than me shooting it.
I didn't aspire to be an expert on serial killers,
but I started writing for a website in the nineteen nineties.
I had already worked with an FBI profiler, John Douglas,
on a book that he was doing the cases a Hauntess.
So I was exposed to what the profilers were doing,

(12:41):
you know, thirty years ago, and then got a chance
to really start writing and doing research, and that led
to the cour TV bought them. So I was now
working for the cour TV website and exploring hundreds of
cases in depth, in detail or to write about them.
And then started I went back for a degree in

(13:04):
forensic psychology. I started a forensic track in the psychology
program at the university. It all came together where this
has became my special area because I knew a lot
about it and a lot of documentary makers came to me.
So you know, I think it is all accumulated without
me necessarily aspiring to do this.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
You are a trusted voice in this field and we
appreciate you taking that voice to chat with us today.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Well, thank you for having me. I really appreciate being here.

Speaker 1 (13:32):

Chris Tucker said that to Jackie chan I only saw
that one. Yeah. I thought it was good. And that's
one of my favorite quotes from that movie. It's just
the way he said it, understand the words coming out
of my mouth. I've actually felt like saying that a
few times too, where they just don't get it. It's
your quote of the Day on The John and Heidi Show.

symbols for different things, and some of which are Arkansas's
state beverage.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Okay, you know what that is? No, it's milk. Oh wow,
that's good to know.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
And why do we need state anything?

Speaker 1 (15:31):
I don't get it. I don't need any of that.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Mississippi state shell is the oyster.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Nebraska state fossil is the duck billed dinosaur.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Of course it is a state fossil. Yeah, I gotta

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Nebraska state soft drink is kool aid.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
It was invented there.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
I did not know kool aid was a soft drink. Yeah,
soft drink was soda.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
It was invented in Nebraska. That's why it's there.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
So is that considered a soft drink?

Speaker 1 (15:54):
I don't know. Probably apparently.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
South Carolina state Craft is sweet grass Us basket weaving.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Of course.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
I didn't know there wasn't state craft.

Speaker 1 (16:05):

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I do not like those things.

for some weird news. While fly fishing in Alaska's National Park,
members of the NHL Seattle Krack and had a wild
encounter when a grizzly bear charged their mascot Boy the
Sea Troll. Yeah. The team shared video footage showing players

(18:16):
and staff scrambling out of the water area as curious
bear approached. One bear splashed towards Bowie, but turned away
just before getting too close. Forward John Hayden joked that
the bears were especially intrigued by the mascot's appearance. The
trip was part of the Kraken's annual community partnership with
Bristol Bay Native Corporation, which also included crack and week

(18:38):
at a youth hoppy hockey camp, which is kind of cool.
So that's all fun, but can you imagine the bear
has probably seen a lot of people out in the wild,
but probably has a mascot scene, a giant masts, a
giant Booie the sea troll. Yeah, I would be confused
as well. So bear, it's okay, you can you can.

nobody's gonna stop them. The future ain't what it used

and nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Well, you didn't even do my favorite. When you come
to the fork in the road, take it, Yeah, that's
one of it. When you come to a fork in

I love my mother dress me. Yeah, because I'm sure
she'd do good. Jeb. Would you rather inherit twenty million
dollars or earn fifty million through hard work and dedication?

Wow?

I'm just saying twenty million for doing nothing. I don't
think I could.

(23:40):
One small act leads to big love for a ninety
six year old veteran. This is a cool story. This
is in Frederick, Maryland, on Thursday afternoons at a place
called the Anchor Bar. You'll see a scene straight out
of Cheers. Door swings open and walks a ninety six
year old Korean War veteran by the name of Charlie
Renzel Well, smile, spread, greet flying. Yes, everybody knows mister

(24:02):
Charlie by name. He has the same seat, he orders
the same beer, and enjoys the company of many times
the same friends. But one or ordinary day. A few
months ago, something unexpected happened. Another patron, Alex Nowan, noticed
Charlie's crean warcap. A veteran of himself, he felt compelled
to quietly cover the tab for Charlie and his wife.

(24:22):
One small gesture set off a chain of events that
neither of them could have ever imagined. While chatting, Nolling
learned that the couple often stopped at the bar after
Charlie's oncology appointments. He's currently being treated for blood cancer
and shows signs of dementia. He also discovered their home
needed serious updates to keep Charlie safe and eighty eight
compliant bathroom would have been nice, safe for windows, new concrete. Well,

(24:45):
they didn't ask, they said, we're just telling him, hey,
we're going to make this happen, and he meant it.
Words spread through the bar and everybody who does everything
showed up to do what they do, and other people
just donated to make sure ten thousand dollars worth of
improvements were made to their O. I think this is
just amazing. Mister Charlie absolutely loves it. How lucky can
I be? He said with a smile. And there's a
