Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'm good?

Speaker 4 (00:25):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I am also good. It is Monday, the first day
of September, Holy cow right through this year. And I've
got a guest for this movie star Monday, Kate Flannery,
who a lot of people know from a TV show
called The Office, but she's also in several movies, several
TV shows, and she's a talented lady, singer, dancer, and
just an all around talented young lady. We're going to

(00:46):
chat with her all about it coming up. Thanks for
listening to The John ed Heidi Show on a Monday,

reason to party, here's my beautiful bride Heidi. Well, it's
Labor Day all over the USA, Yes it is.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
And you know a lot of people have the day off.
And so I found a Ferris Bueller's Day Off cocktail.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Oh that's kind of cool.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
See he's pretty fitting. This is actually a video. It
is not a text link, but I did send you
the video to this And this is vacation in a glass.
It is white rum, peach liqueur, cream of coconut, orange juice,
pineapple juice, and ice cubes all blended together in a
delicious little glass of sweetness.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
That's awesome. I've got a link to the drink in
the show notes for today at John and Heidishow dot com.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Now surveys and studies and such. New research shows that
not drinking enough water can make your body over react
to stress. Yeah, so get some more water. A new
study of young adults, those who consume less than one
point five liders of fluids daily have cortisol spikes fifty
five percent higher than participants who drink around four lids
of water. Is this a leader right here?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
That makes sense to me? So I think that's a
leader in a court.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
So it's one point eight fluid ounces. Oh, and it
is one leader, So our a leader in at court
the same. I don't know anyway, I drink a lot
of those, so you're supposed to have four of those?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Of a.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Cortisol, the body's main stress hormone, helps us respond to challenges,
but chronically high levels can wear us down. Even subtle
dehydration primes your stress system, Researchers found that darker urine
is a really easy indicator that you need more water.
Staying properly hydrated helps regulate certain hormones, keeping them from
overreacting to daily stressors. The bottom line, drinking enough water

(03:13):
isn't just about quenching your thirst. It could be the
simplest way to stay calm and to be sharp and
to be more resilient in everyday life. So get out
there and enjoy some water.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Great advice.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
We're going to talk more about water in the later
in the program as well, surveys and studies and such
on The John and Heidi Show, The Jon and Heidi Show.

you're kind of more bacteria than you are human. The
average human is around fifty six percent bacteria, discovered in

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Time out for the scoop of the day. This is
really interesting. Thinking burns calories? Did you know that?

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I did?

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Not?

Speaker 1 (07:22):
So if you just a ton of care, if you
just think about if you think about exercising, I wonder
if that makes it more calories.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Probably not doing.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Sit ups, I'm doing crunches, I'm doing jumping jacks. Oh yeah,
I feel like I just lost some calories. That's great
and oh good. It's another new dating trend. It's called shreking.
Have you heard this?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
You seen?

Speaker 1 (07:40):
What do you think it is? If I was going
to tell you shreking? What would you guess that is?

Speaker 4 (07:44):
I have no idea dating somebody ugly?

Speaker 1 (07:46):
No, so it's it's kind of what we have going
on in our relationship here. Experts say it's less fairy
tale and more cautionary tale. Shreking is the act of
dating someone you're not attracted to and hopes that they'll
treat you better, just like Fiona did. You're dating me,
I'm Shrek, you're Fiona. So it's Okay, I'm not mocking you.
Fiona took a chance on Shrek in the movie. The

(08:08):
problem is when you're shreking, inevitably you end up getting hurt.
Dating coach Amy Chan notes that behavior is not new.
People have forever entered into relationships hoping that attraction might grow,
but the assumption is that dating down guarantees kindness off
in backfires. Relationship expert Emma Hathorne added that judging someone's

(08:29):
character based on appearance is flawed because poor treatment is
unattractive no matter what that person looks like. Abs Still
expert stress that being shreked could stop you from dating
outside your usual type. It's a chance to clarify your
values and your standards. So I've long considered myself Shrek
and you Fiona, So now yeah, and Heidi's like, it's okay,

(08:50):
he's got a friend that's a funny donkey, so let's
go ahead. They make me laugh. Let's do this. That
is your scoop of the day right here on the
John and Heidi Show. Thank you so much for listening

(09:15):
John and Heidi Show on a Movie Star Monday. Excited
to visit right now with Kate Flannery. You know her
from movies, but you might also know her as Meredith
Palmer from NBC's The Office. Kate, how are you doing great?

Speaker 3 (09:26):
I'm just a little hungover. We'll get through it though, right.
Everything great?

Speaker 1 (09:30):
I love it. You have been staying busy. You and
Jane Lanzer out dancing your tails off in a cabaret show.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah, we're so excited. We'll do in the Pacific Northwest
tour in September. We'll be in dalem Oregon on the twelfth,
and we'll be in Medford Organ on the thirteenth. A.
You know, we're having a great time. We really are.
I'd have to say we're singing a lot of songs
that people will well, if you're over for you'll know
more of the songs. But there's some classic show tunes
and it's kind of there's a lot of comedy. It's

(09:57):
not a hot sit situation.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
We're gonna have fun and that's just this part of
the tour. You guys are going all over the place,
and you've been a whole bunch of places already. You've
been staying busy.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
We are. And then we of course to a big
Christmas tour as we always do in late November into
late December. So yept like we hit it hard for
three weeks. Not too bad for a couple of broads
in her sixties.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Very nice. Now, a lot of people know you from
the Office Meredith Palmer. Are you anything at all like
Meredith in real life?

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Well, my dad didn't own Plannery's tavern, which was the Barn,
so about you do the math there. I'm not afraid
to have fun, but I'm not as shameless as Meredith.
I apologize too much. You're an Office fan. I think
you're going to enjoy this show because I'm you know,
I'm more of the cheap dog knocking everything down, and
Jame's kind of like Sue Sylvester, like the nun cracking

(10:46):
me on the knuckles, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
I love that. In addition to the Office, you were
also on Dancing with the Stars season twenty eight, by
far the fan favorite.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
You're so sweet. I had a great time. It was
really difficult. I didn't think I could do it because
I was fifty five. Most of the competition, I was
the oldest woman all the other ones in one in
the twenties after Mary Wilson was eliminated. So I'm very
proud of myself. I feel like it was almost like
a religious exercise that really had to stay focused. And
it's crazy to be judged by millions of people every weekyear.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Absolutely, And like we discovered that you could dance on
that TV show. You probably already knew you could dance,
but now we know you can dance, we know you
can sing, You've got great comedic timing, we know you
from you know, the Office, everybody's favorite TV show. And
then you're in a ton of movies. And I was
watching a movie that I had seen years ago, and
then I watched it again. I'm like, wait, there's Kate.
I know who that is. I watched the movie Cooties.

(11:34):
What a funny movie, so fun.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, Elijah Wood. I played Elijah Wood's mom, which I
would say, I'm not quite old enough to be his
mom unless I was in sixth grade, but that's the kid.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Well, and you've done movies You've done television, You've done
stage programs, You've done you know, you've kind of done
it all. Is there anything that Kate Flannery would like
to do that you haven't had a chance to do?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Well?

Speaker 3 (11:58):
I just started. I'm actually I have a book deal
and so I'm writing a book that's need for me
and it's posted its mental challenges. But we're getting there.
We're getting there. So hopefully, hopefully next summer I'll see
you on a book tour.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
That would be awesome. We'll be printed on dunder Mifflin paper,
do we know?

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I hope.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
So that's a great idea that might bring me.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Look, have a little dunder Mifflin stamp on the bottom
of every page.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
As well as selling the dunder Rifflin paper again, which
is crazy.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I love that. And again, donder Mifflin is known from
the Office and the Office in the United States nine seasons.
There was an Office version in England that was only
two seasons. So in addition to the nine seasons that
we had in the United States, there's now I was
going to say a reboot, but that's not the right word.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
It's a spinoff yet to spin off to spin off
the paper starting September fourth. It'll be on Peacock and
I think NBC. It's placed with the documentary crew continuing
with a different paper source. They're doing a newspaper documentary.
But yeah, and Auscar Indias, I'm going to be an
Oustra marching man. So all of sen should definitely watch
the paper. It's going to be a lot of fun.

(13:03):
And also Oscar Nunias and I we have an episode
that we've just shot. It's going to air in September
on ABC. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with Jimmy Kimmel.
We have so much fun. Yeah, it's really fun to.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Keep it's fun to visit with you. And I don't
know how in the world you do it because you
have a busy, busy, busy schedule and again a bunch
of really fun places in the Pacific Northwest.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
And yeah, the band is fantastic. It is. It is
such a fun evening. I have to say and you know,
come say hi, like we it's really fun and I
feel like it's just it's just a it's a great
way to see fans and just spend a little time together.
And uh, it's a little unusual but I think you're
going to have a great time. We do have a
lot of laughs. Like it is. It is definitely like that.

(13:45):
That is Prairie just some fun music. But yeah, it's
kind of our own version of showing up in the world.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
I love it. Kate, thank you for your time today.
You have a wonderful day.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Thanks so much, you too.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Take care of that absolutely again. Kate Flannery has been
our guest today. You know or as marriage from the office,
you know, or from a bunch of movies, and maybe
you know her from the live performances. She's out doing
those right now. I've got a link to all the
details in the show notes for today at johndtheidishow dot com.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Yeah. Oh so he always had fun quips and quotes
and things, and there you go. I thought you'd get that,
but I also understand why you wouldn't know. It was
a bit obscure. It was today's movie quote of the

out for News to Me. As we head to the
News to Me newsdesk with Heidi Small, what you got, Heidi,
I've got a.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Few more of these old time news stories.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yeah, he had those.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
So there's there's this one says there was a gentleman
who tried to limit the amount of time that you
can kiss out in public. And this was in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
in nineteen forty five, and the mayor was plugging for
a city ordinance to limit kissing time because when people
would come back from the military, they would stand at
the train you know, depots, and just kiss and kiss

(16:06):
and kiss and kiss. And he tried to limit it
to one minute. What a fun kissing time in public,
and that he had decided later on that that was
a mistake and did not move forward.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Oh he wanted to get reelected, is what he said.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Apparently apparently people did not like that. And then this
one I thought was really sad. This happened in eighteen ninety.
So a man had put three hundred dollars in his
in an envelope and hit it in his pillow, and
his two year old child found it and stuck it
through a grate and burned it, and all that was

(16:42):
left there was two hundred ninety dollars in bills, and
there were ten dollars gold piece, and the gold piece
is the only thing that survived that was eighty five
hundred dollars in today's money.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Wow, and that book is old. It is probably even
more than that, even more than that now cow so
very good. Yikes, yeah good, No.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Not good at all. So anyway, that's news to me.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
That is also news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that John? If you
are cross eyed, your eyes go together, But if you're
the opposite that and your eyes go out. What do
you call that you know, I don't know, wall Eyed.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Oh, I guess I did know that.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Fun fact for you, Heiding John doctors in the seventeen
hundreds they prescribed lady bugs taken internally to cure measles.
I don't know how that worked, but probably not well
or it's he'll be doing it. Fun fact for you, Heidi.
Launched in nineteen seventy seven, the Voyager one probe is
now about twenty five billion kilometers or fifteen point six
billion miles away from Earth, and I'll bet it's further

(18:12):
than that. I don't know when this thing was typed.
Another fun fact for you, Heidi, eating one hundred calories
gives you the energy to propel a bicycle three miles so.
And one more fun fact for you, Heidi.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
What's that? John?

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Who do you suppose is the world's largest producer of bagpipes?
Which country?

Speaker 4 (18:29):
I would assume Scotland and you.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Would assume wrong. It's Pakistan. Yeah. Real, When you think bagpipes,
you should think Pakistan. H I thought that seemed odd
as well. Several fun facts now, you know, thanks for
listening to The John and Heidi Show.

(19:05):
restaurant in Cheshire, England, is making waves, not with their wine,
not with their food, but with their water. Yeah. They
have a French eatery and they started offering the UK's
first water menu. It's a curated list features three still
and four sparkling varieties plus tap water if you want that.
The idea came from a water somalie. Yes, that is

(19:25):
the thing, apparently, Dorian Bender, who supplies La Papeitie with
their Craig spring water. At first, chef Joseph Rawlings dismissed
the concept. He's like, no, I don't think so. But
then they did a tasting of this this water and
he said it changed his mind. Like wine, different waters
paired with different foods like cheese and ham and chocolate
transformed the flavor. Bottles of this water cost five pounds

(19:50):
to nineteen pounds anywhere from like six fifty to twenty
five dollars US. The list offers waters originating throughout Europe,
with mineral levels shaping the flavor. Delicate Italian retina Netta.
I'm sure I nailed it to the briny French vs.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Name.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
I'm not even trying at this point. The chef says
water isn't just water end quote. Okay, that all sounds great.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
I don't think I'll be spending that ton of money
on the glasses of water. Thanks, thank you.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Bring me a hose, I'll drink.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
I'll take the wine.

(21:06):
four hundred and fifty words and three minutes while doing this?
I don't know talking on the phone. Oh yeah, so
that's it.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
I don't really talk on the phone.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Match you do to your mother and to your daughter,
but never me. When I call you send me the voicemail.
You do not, Yes, you do too. Every time I'm like,

I know I've talked a lot about my yard and
how hard I've worked on it and how I'm really
really happy with it. It is coming along, so we do.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
And I always tell people if you're not around them
like I did it all myself has helped it all.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
But the one thing that I noticed the other day,
I've got this tree it's up by the house that
has a completely different tree growing out of it.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
It's got a branch from a different type of tree.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
It does.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
I never seen it.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Like the whole tree is one kind of a tree,
and then there's one branch that even the branch looks different,
the twig of the branch looks different, and the leaves
on it are completely different than the whole rest of
the tree.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Asked start at all?

Speaker 4 (22:31):
I haven't.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
I should should our neighbor his dad was a horticulturist
or something, and I've never seen that. I love your
get the plants. It wasn't it was something else. He's
telling me all the stuff we have. I'm like, didn't
even know that's.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
What I planted them. And I don't know what they are.
I just like them, and I buy them and I
plant them, and I kind of just pray and hope
that they turn out. But I don't know what happened
with this particular tree.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
It is odd.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
Have you ever I mean, if anybody listening ever heard
of something.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Like the branch from a different tree is growing. Yeah,
how cool it'd be if it was like an apple
branch and we start getting apples on on that one branch.
I wonder if that's a thing so bizarre that is
that is something special with Heidi Small.

Time out for the list. These are real, but really
weird fortunecookie fortunes. I love this. So here's what. Somebody
opened a fortune cookie and it said, it's about time
I got out of that cookie. Wouldn't that be awesome?
Another one said you will be hungry in one hour.
You are not illiterate. That is another one. You're able

(24:04):
to read it.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
You're able to read it.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Another fortune cookie fortune These are real. If you eat
something and nobody sees it, it has no calories. This one,
you are about to become fifteen dollars and ninety five
cents poorer, so they had the ignore the previous cookie.
That's another These are real fortunes. I would love these.
The fortune you seek is in another cookie. You are

(24:27):
about to finish reading a fortune cookie. You laugh. Now,
wait till you get home. And the last one pigeon
poop burns the retina for thirteen hours and you will
learn this the hard way. Okay, real, that's really weird.
That's fortune cookie fortunes. Thanks for listening to The John

here with good news, and I think this is good news.
This video has gone viral, so you may have seen

(25:10):
this on the internet already, but here's the headline. Brave
teens kicked down door to save dogs from a burning home.
Have you seen this online?

Speaker 4 (25:17):
I haven't. I love this though.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
It happened in Utah, fast moving fire destroyed two homes,
but thanks to a group of courageous teens, two family
dogs made it out alive. And there's video footage from
the doorbell oh neat, so you get to see them
in fish eye perspective. Neat, and they're trying to kick
down the door, and whoever has his house, they got
a pretty strong door. It took a lot of kicking,

(25:41):
and then the dad was there and he was trying
to hit it and the guy's like, dad, your shoulder.
So I don't know if his dad has like a
bad shoulder, but before he probably does. Now he was
trying so hard to break this door down. But then
there were two of them kicking, and they ended up
getting it and they got down there and they helped
get these dogs out. Yeah again, think about how awful

(26:02):
would be to lose your home. That would be horrible, horrible,
But think about how much better you would feel if
you got home and you realize, at least my.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
Dogs are okay.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
So yeah, thanks to the bravery of a group of teens,
these beloved pets are a Oka, says. The family says
just how grateful they were. They say it made you
feel good inside. One of them shared, just to know
that there's somebody that cared enough, right, you know, these
guys heard the dogs barking, and they're like, there's dogs
in that house that's on fire.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
So good people.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
And they had no idea there could have been people
in there too, you know, but luckily there were no people.
But thank goodness, they found the dogs and they got
them out and everything's all good. So I've got a
link to that video in the show notes for today
