Speaker 4 (01:16):
And I've found a drink called a Wrecked Pirate, And boy,
would you be wrecked. It's got RM, it's got blue
us rocco, it's got coconut rum, it's got pineapple juice brite,
and then a pineapple and a cherry fur garnish.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Now, surveys and studies and such, almost everybody has a secret,
but not all secrets weigh equally on your mind. A
study found that shameful secrets are more mentally consuming than
guilty ones. Researchers talk to over a thousand people, asking
how often they thought about their secrets, as well as
whether those secrets made them feel shame like I am

(02:31):
worthless and small, or guilt I feel regret about something
I've done. People were found to dwell much longer about
shameful things than things they felt guilty about. The studies
author advised reframing such feelings rather than letting them define you,
see them as a chance to change. What do you
think about that hide?

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I think that's lovely.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Do you have any secrets?

Speaker 7 (02:55):
No?

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I mean all my secrets, you know, so I don't
have any.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Secrets from you. Do I have any secrets?

Speaker 4 (02:59):
I wouldn't know, would I?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I think I've told you pretty much everything you've seen,
the good, the bad, and the ugly, and somehow you
still stuck with you twenty five glorious years. So yeah,
thank you. That is surveys and studies and such on

to reunite for season three of Big Little Lies. I
don't know what that means anyway. Reswitch Show, that's the

(03:45):

seen this? Do you know what we're talking?

Speaker 4 (03:52):
I haven't seen it, but I have heard of it.

Speaker 8 (03:53):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
See, it's apparently it's been a bit so it's been
about almost ten years since it's been out. So they're
gonna have seasons three now. So if you're a fan,
you probably already knew that. And Bowen Yang has revealed
that Saturday Night Live creator Lauren Michaels told him that
his work on the show was not yet done before
he renewed his contract for season fifty one. He said,
he's always gone by the instinct of do I have

(04:16):
more to do? And do I feel like I do?
Lauren and I talked about it, and Lauren was like,
you have more to do. Yang said he felt that
the audience is maybe getting sick of him, but Michaels
was like, that's not true. There's more of you to
what There's more for you to do, and I need
you so well. That's nice. That's for the people who
are let go. They're like, we didn't have that conversation,

(04:38):
he said, We're done with you. Big screen, little screen

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Heidi, did you know there might be a cure for evil? Well,
at least a cure for psychopathy anyway. Psychologists argue the
aspects of psychopathy can be cured by cognitive behavioral therapy,
which is said to reduce violent offenses by those with
the condition. So if your psychopath, there is help for you.
Preliminary research suggests that computer based cognitive training could help

(05:37):
us help a psychopath experience empathy and potentially regret. What
do you think of that.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
I think that's very good news.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
That is very good news. We don't know everything, but

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Time out for the scoop of the day. A study
found that using Facebook has actually changed how our brains work.
So if you've been on Facebook for a long time,
your brain works differently than people who've never been on Facebook.
Does that seem normal?

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Items and it seems accurate?

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (07:10):
And I know that there are people who you know,
if they post something and then people don't comment or
like on it, they get all worked up over that.
Don't worry about it. Yeah, it doesn't matter. Just move on.
And why do pro athletes have to spit so much?
You might know, spitting and sports kind of go hand
in hand, even when leagues try to stop it. In
twenty twenty, Major League Baseball banned spitting during the pandemic.

(07:33):
Players compared it to banning black eyes or sunflower seeds.
Justin Turner put it this way, Spitting for baseball players
is like blinking. The habit stretches beyond baseball. Soccer players
also and runners, and hockey players and boxers. They all
spit during play. Why is that? You might ask?

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Why is that?

Speaker 8 (07:52):
John?

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Thank you for asking. Science offers the reason. Exercise increases
the sticky saliva. Dehydration makes it work Overtime athletes become
conditioned to do it even without thinking. Here's the interesting part.
Spinning even offers a strange performance advantage. Study show that
carb rinsing, that's swishing a sports drink and spitting it

(08:13):
out can actually trick your brain into feeling energized. Here's
the catch, though, be sure to aim carefully. Case in point,
the Eagles Jalen Carter recently spit. He was ejected from
a game for spitting near the Cowboys Dak Prescott. So
he's spitting towards him.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah, that's not nice.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
But he said it was unintentional, So I don't know.
I wasn't there, I didn't see it happen. Does not
affect my life. Scoop of the day right here on
The John and Heidie Show, The Heidi Show. Thank you
so much for listening to The John and Heidi Show,

(08:56):
Thank you for listening to The John and Heidie Show
on a Friday. Our guest today, Sandra Brown, is with
a program called The tech Bro Murders. And let's talk
a little bit about this program and how you got
involved in this.

Speaker 7 (09:06):
Well, John, I have about thirty years in law enforcement.
I retired a while ago, and I got a call
a couple of years ago about a case that my
colleagues and I worked on back in nineteen ninety eight,
and the question was do you want to talk about
this case. I never imagined that I would be sitting
here talking to you today. When we got that call,
I wanted to talk about that case so bad. And

(09:26):
that turned into my first documentary, The Tetrist Murders, and
it was a three episode series. It aired December fifth,
twenty twenty two, and when that finished, the production company
asked me what I'd be interested in doing more, so
I said sure. It took us a couple of years
to get it all together, and what came out of
that is the tech Bro Murders. It's very interesting now.

(09:47):
That first case was my case. I worked on that one.
These next six I haven't worked on them, but they
all occurred in Silicon Valley. And why is that important?
I'll tell you A lot of people feel like you know,
Silicon Valley is there's a lot of glamour, a lot
of power, a genius, a lot of money, you know, mansions,
fancy cars, private schools, and people aspire to live like that, right,

(10:13):
and so they think everything is safe and everything is beautiful.
I want to be the next tech Bro. I want
to come up with a great idea and I just
want to live out the rest of my life. But
what people really don't understand is it's not always beautiful
and great. You know, that the states are pretty high,
and sometimes that much power and that much wealth can

(10:33):
end in crimes that can be even more sinister than
other communities.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
And when you think about Silicon Valley, it's a small
place with a giant amount of money in it. Anytime
you get that much money in one little area, it's
just right for bad things to happen.

Speaker 7 (10:46):
Like this, it is, and many times it's because people
work so hard to try to make it. They see
other young people with these great ideas and they go, oh, yeah,
I can do that. And it doesn't always work out,
you know. I mean when we're looking at these major
companies Google, Cisco, Facebook, people think, oh, that looks like
it's easy. Facebook can't be that hard, right, No, it

(11:09):
takes a lot of money, it takes a lot of genius,
it takes a lot of time. You just can't walk
into it. I mean, these companies didn't start on Tuesday.
They started sometimes years earlier. And some folks have this
idea that they deserve it, they can make it, they
can do it, and when they don't, it just crashes
and sometimes violence comes out again.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
The tech bro murder is six different cases in this
program and a lot of the time. When you think
about these people that are super successful in Silicon Valley,
they came from a different background where they didn't have
a lot, and now all of a sudden they've got
more than they ever thought they'd have. Again, it's just
right for somebody within a huge ego to do bad things.

Speaker 7 (11:46):
Oh you know what, John ego does come into play,
and you'll see that in a couple of the different
cases that we have. Let me talk about the first
three that I think are that are going to lead
people to want to watch the three right, the first
one that's called killer Code, and that one it's a cliffhanger.
It's a who've done it right? And so when the

(12:08):
police arrive on the scene, I'm not going to give
away anything because I want people to watch, but they
have a puzzle to solve when they get to the
scene of this death of this wonderful woman that the
community loved. Kathy Anderson, sixty two years years old, was
murdered in her own home. When they get there, they
have to figure out is this the jilted lover who's
at the scene, or this gifted programmer who's very intelligent

(12:30):
genius level, which one of them did it. And I
think that's what people like when they watch these documentaries.
They're armchair detectives and they want to try to figure
it out. This is sitting at the edge of your seat,
what is going on in this case? And I knew,
I mean, I worked in Paul Walt. This first case
was in Mimal Park right next door. And I actually

(12:50):
knew the husband of the scene, the person who was murdered,
Kathy Anderson. I knew her husband. I never met her.
Her husband had a company called Dolphin, and I always
seen them in town and we always, you know, ended
up getting coffee at the same time and talking. This
one sets it off, and it's a heinous crime. It's
a sad crime. She lost her life, but it's you know,

(13:13):
it helps people to understand that it's not always these
crimes will always happen in the lower social economic communities,
right and many times television, you know, stereotypes are all
about those people gang bangers and drugies and all that stuff.
Sometimes this type of crime happens in some of the
best neighborhoods. Crime doesn't have a dip code. And these

(13:34):
shows are going to show that.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
I love that. Again, the tech bro murderers. HBO max
is where you can find all of them. Our guest
today has been Sandra Brown. I've got linked to all
of the information in the show. Now it's for today

I'm pretty sure Heidie's going to get this one. It's

Speaker 4 (14:27):
Oh that was Star Wars.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yeah, Star Wars A New Hope nineteen seventy seven Hans Solo,
Harrison Ford I watched.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
You've ever wondered what the differences between cologne and perfume?

Speaker 3 (15:17):
I have wondered, have you?

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Okay, Well I'm going to tell you.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Because you wear perfume and I wear colone. Is it
just a male female thing?

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Well, the differences lay in the chemistry and the intent.
Both are fragrances to be sprayed or sprinkled on the skin,
with perfume containing wider variety and a higher concentration of
scents and oils than cologne. Perfume has a heavier smell
than cologne, meaning it's more likely worn on special occasions,
with cologne being for a daily use.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
That's very true. I wear Colonne daily. You know why,
because Heidi told me you should wear Colone otherwise you
kind of stink. Anyway, That's not really what she said,
but she handed me a bottle of Clone and said
you should wear this. That is also news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi, humans are the only animals
with chins. I never thought of this, Like a dog
has a bottom job, but they.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Don't, right, I guess I've never thought of that before either.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
So that's kind of weird. Why do we have chins?
I'm scratching my zone thinking about it.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
You have chins?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Apparently not. They got a bottom job, but apparently not
a chin. Fun fact for your hiding.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
What's that, John?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
You have about sixty thousand thoughts every single day. I
am with way.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
I think I'm above that as well.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Fun fact for a Heidi. When you sweat, your brain
shrinks a little bit. Well that's not good. Fun fact
for a heading. The brain begins to slow down at
about twenty four years of age. At what ear does
it stop? Because I think I'm getting there? And we'll
do one more fun fact for you, Heidi.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Was that John?

Speaker 3 (17:20):
If you ever have an itch in your throat and
you want to get rid of the itch, you're supposed

an itch in my throat, but I scratch my ear. Anyway,

Time Now for some weird news. A Connecticut emergency crew
had an unexpectedly slippery Saturday when a forty year old

(17:56):
man found himself trapped in the twisty confinance of a
playground tube slide. Yes, the firefighters, ems and police rushed
to an elementary school at four thirty pm for what
the fire department called a confined space rescue. Eyewitnesses reported
a man wedged mid slide feet and head first. His
body somehow folded it sideways at the waist, embarrassing and

(18:21):
headfirst like a human pretzel. Caught in plastic temperatures inside
the slide sword, prompting rescuers to use ventilation equipment to
keep him cool as they worked to free him. Photos
show a bizarre scene of bright plastic, bent limbs and
heroic quirkers ondoing whatever the playground physics needed to havesing

(18:43):
his slide. Adventure had clearly gone very sideways. And yes,
I have a link to the photos in the show

Time out for the question of the day for Heidi Small.
Just two percent of women think this looks good on
a man. What is it? I don't think you're a fan.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Oh gosh, I'm a two pay No a man bun?
Oh no, they're terrible.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Yeah. I just know that there's a person, a friend
of ours, who had a man bun and you said,
to his face, you're seriously gonna wear that like that?
Just take that out? And he's like, what You're like,
you look like an idiot. I said, you don't want
to know what she really thinks.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
I am always honest. You're going, I mean, even if
you don't ask my opinion, I'm gonna give it to you.

Speaker 3 (20:03):

off the crocs. You should just go home. That is

So this one is I can go through glass without
breaking it light. Yes, very good. I have two legs
that touch the ground only when I am not moving.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Like some motorcycles have like kickstands. But is that it?
That wouldn't be it? Two legs at touch the ground
only when I'm not moving?

Speaker 2 (20:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
It's a wheelbarrow.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that too, a wheelbarrow.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
And I have one more for you to I have
thirteen hearts, but no other organs.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Thirteen hearts, I would say, a deck of car Very good.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Good job, John, you two for three today.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Scene yesterday you kind of stump me because I was
not realized paying attention to something else, was trying to
do riddles on the radio. So did you notice they
stopped what I was doing over here?

Speaker 4 (21:19):
If you were, you had your eyes closed.

Time Now for the list, and we're gonna wrap up
this unavoidable laws of the natural universe. These are all things,
and I'll tell you what I agree with. So many
of these. I've got the entire list in the show
notes all three days. I did it like a third,
but I put all of them every day. Murphy's law
of lockers. If there are only two people in a
locker room, they'll have adjacent lockers. Yes, I've noticed that,
especially like if you can choose wherever you want to be.

(22:24):
I haven't been to a fitness center in a while.
Back when I would there be like old naked guys
standing right next to you. If I go to the
other side of the room, a different old naked guy
would just show up for no particular reason. I'm like,
where do these old naked guys keep coming from? Law
of dirty rugs or carpets. The chances of an open
faced jelly sandwich landing face down on the floor is
directly proportional to the newness, color, and cost of carpet cleaning. Yeah.

(22:48):
Law of location. No matter where you go there, you
are well. That one's dumb law of knowledge. Anything is
possible if you don't know what you're talking about. That
I've seen a lot of people that do that one.
Brown's law, if the shoe fits, it's probably ugly. Oliver's law,
a closed mouth gathers no feet. I like that one.
And Wilson's law. As soon as you find a product

story from Queensland. Dogs on a bus are creating dream
jobs for people with disabilities. So every morning in Queensland,
a minibus filled with eager dogs heads to Iron Bark
Dog Park. To the pups, it's a playground paradise, but
behind the scenes, it's something even more special that's happening.
It's changing lives.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Heidie Okay.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
For over a decade, Joe mcviilly, the trainer who runs Ironbark,
has built her business around more than dogs. She's made
it her mission to provide meaningful work for people living
with disabilities or coming from at risk background. So she
created a space where everybody, regardless of their ability, can
thrive and build a future in animal care.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Yeah, the work is opening doors to careers and friendships
and confidence for people who may have struggled to find
opportunities elsewhere. One of the staff members is hearing impaired.
They say the role has been nothing short of life changing.
I've always loved animals, and now I get to work
with them every day. It's my dream job. The dogs
maybe the stars of the daycare, but in TikTok clips

(24:41):
that have been watched by millions, it's Joe's real pride.
Is that is the thing that people really keep coming
back for the dogs. Yeah, but the fact that she's
doing what she's doing, that probably is the reason. Because
there's dogs all over, but there's only one Joe, and
there she is. I've got a link to the story
if you'd like to read it and maybe even see
the videos and the photos and all of that in
