Speaker 2 (00:27):
I thought you were already ready to go. Microphone's across
the room and she's playing on her phone.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
How was that playing on my phone?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Okay, Hey, guess what. It's a movie star Monday and
I've got a guest.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Who's your guest.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
I'm glad you asked Rossif Sutherland. Yeah, Keefer's brother, Donald's son.
Going to talk to him again. This is the second
time we've had him on the program, and we're talking
about the same thing. Last year we talked about Murder
in a Small Town and it was a program that
he was on that they were hoping would be like
a big hit, and guess what it was. And it's
back for season two, which started last Tuesday. So murder

(01:01):
in a small Town. We're gonna chat with Rossif Sutherland
all about that coming up.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Today is National Coffee Day.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Oh I love coffee, I really do too.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
And I located a cold brew cocktail. I can't say
that this sounds good to me. Okay, it's got tequila,
milk and coldbrew coffee.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
I would assume that tequila would kind of curdle the milk,
but I guess I've never tried to mix the two,
so huh. If you're feeling brave, there you go. There's
one to try today on National Coffee Day.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I've got a link to that drink in the show

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Now, surveys and studies and such people are pushing back
against guilt tipping. Many people are selecting a smaller amount
or do.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Select any I am so irritated with that.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
A new survey in the United States shows the average
person spent two hundred and eighty three dollars on pressure
driven tips in twenty twenty five so far this year,
down quite a bit from this time last year, four
hundred and fifty three dollars, almost twice as much.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Consumers now give in to tip prompts just four point
two times per month, compared to six point three times
last year. Many still tip more than they feel is fair,
about twenty four dollars extra each month. The trend suggests
growing resistance to social pressure at the register. Rising living
costs are also a factor. Forty one percent said they've

(03:17):
reduced tips, though some continue tipping generously to support the workers.
And that's the thing. Here's the thing. I love the people,
and especially when like they did an amazing job.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I want to tip in a situation where it is warranted.
You do not tip if I'm checking, if I'm just
buying something in a cash register, They're they're getting paid
to work the cash.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
You look to tip and like, no, for what?

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Now?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Somebody took a photo of a self checkout that they're like,
who would that do?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Am I tipping?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
No? I don't, all right, surveys and studies and such
on The John and Heidi Show Show. Thank you for

McConaughey has revealed his secret to said it in cursive.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
You know.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
He revealed his secret for a healthy marriage, Heidie getting
a smaller bed. He's been married for over a decade,
and he says, I don't think couple should have a
king sized bed. If you have one, you should downsize.
He has a twin size bed, so it doesn't say that.
I don't know what bet he is. James Corden told
People magazine that his next fitness milestone is to be
as fit as Neil Patrick Harris. So he said that

(04:37):
he had tried ozempic and it really didn't work for him.
But he's doing some other things and he's doing really well,
which is good, and Star Wars fans are one step
closer to returning to a galaxy far far away. The
first trailer for director John Favreause The Mandalorian and Grogu,
the upcoming Star Wars film, stars Pedro Pascal from Mandalorian
Disney Plus series. Anyway, this is going to be out?

(05:01):
Is it out now? Yeah? Here we go. It's going
to be May twenty second of next year that the
movie is out. But the trailer is out now. Feel
to see it. I've got a link to it in

Heidi, did you know people who eat whatever they want
and stay slim have a slow metabolism, not a fast one.
Skinny person tends to have less muscle mass than others,
meaning their big bascal metabolic rate to BMR is lower
than those of a high muscle mass person. This gives
them a slow metabolism, not a fast metabolism. So I've

(06:05):
been saying, hey, speed up metabolism. Apparently I needed to
slow it down. I've been doing it all wrong. We
don't know everything, but now we know this.

Time now for the joke of the day with my
beautiful bride, Heidi Small. What do you have for me?

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Heidi?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I threw a boomerang a few years ago. Now I
live in constant Fear's funny would that be if it
comes back at you years later? Back's in the back
of the head.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
That is a slow boomerang. You ever throw one of
those things?

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Oh, years and years ago?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
It kid? No, me neither. So I did it and
they're like, it's a boomerang. You throw it and it
comes back. And the guy showed everybody how to do it.
Then I threw it and it's just like landing on
the ground. Do I go get that or I'm not kidding?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Mad?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Joke of the day right here on the John and
Heidi Show.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
Hi, I'm pastor Brian with New Freedom dot Online dot Church,
a non denominational Bible based Christian church that meets entirely online.
A church for everyone, including those with physical limitations, mental
health struggles, even church hurt, You are welcome, you are seen,
and you belong. God's truth is timeless, and we share
it in a way that applies to life today. In

(07:26):
today's world, it's digital. God does not need walls or
stained glass. Join us at New Freedom dot online, dot church,
no buildings, no pressure. Come find new Freedom.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Time now for the scoop of the day. A study
found eight percent of us are afraid of the dark.
Are you afraid of the dark. I'm not really afraid
of the dark. I'm afraid I'm gonna trip on something
in the dark. I stepped one time on the end
of the electric cord for your curling iron. That hurt
a lot. So now I wear my I was gonna

(07:58):
say my crocs, but you bought me something else. What
are these called the um archies? I wear those around
the house in the dark now so I don't have
to worry about stepping on dog toys or my wife's cords.
And the COVID pause is the latest generational conversation to
take over TikTok. Some millennials and zoomers on social media
say the years sent the years five of them now

(08:20):
since twenty twenty, feel like they're missing with many insisting
they don't feel any older. Some frame it as COVID
stealing time, while others blame disrupted milestones, economic struggles, or
even trauma for freezing people at their pandemic age. The
debate has spilled over to x where some mock older
users for dancing online, while others argue that the fun

(08:43):
has no age limit. Researchers note that real impacts of
the pandemic do linger, with many students remaining behind in
academic recovery. So it does feel like it's been way
more than five years in some sense, but it also
feels like it was just yesterday. That's one of those
things where I kind of agree with this, but I
also go, I'm so glad we moved on. Oh for sure,

(09:05):
so very glad. That is the scoop of the day
on The John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
And Heidie Show.

Excited to visit with Rossiff Sutherland. We're going to talk
with him again about a murder in a small town.

(09:31):
Last time we talked, it was just getting ready for
season one. Now season two is out and people are
loving this show.

Speaker 6 (09:37):
I'm really happy they are, because we're privileged to have
done the second season of this. We turned into quite
a lovely, little creative family by the end of season one,
and so it was a wonderful opportunity to get back
to work with people that I'd gone to love and
I hope we outdid ourselves this season.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Yeah, where is this film? Because the some of the
scene it's just beautiful. Where are you guys doing this?

Speaker 6 (10:02):
We shoot in count of Gibson's is actually Gibson's, but
it's in British Columbia. It's about an hour ferry ride
away from Vancouver Oceanside community. It was a fishing town
and now it's become an escape for all the people.
I guess we have a second home away from Vancouver.
It's dreaming over there. If you're lucky enough and you're

(10:22):
looking out the window, and you might feel whale well.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
And we should probably for folks that have not had
a chance to see anything from season one. Let's get
him up to speed on murder in a small town
so they know what this show is about, because then
they can go back and watch the first season and
they can follow along for this second season. But how
would you describe in a nutshell what this TV show
is about?

Speaker 6 (10:40):
Rossill, Well, it's a murder mystery. It is set in
the small town, and the title does tell a lot.
I play a character called Carl Albert, who's a detective
from the big city, and he's decided that he's going
to change his life, to reinvent his life. He's recently divorced,
he's got to kids with teenagers, and here decides to

(11:03):
go to Gibson's, which is the place that he went
to as a kid with his mom, and he's imagining
that is like will be common. But this small town
of Gibsons is a bit of a murder capital, and
so all of his skills that he's accumulated over all
these years in the big city are put to the
test in this small town. And he's got three or

(11:23):
four officers. It's a very small unit. But all the
while he falls manly in love with this librarian. Cassandra
played by Kristin Cook. And that's the true line of
this TV show, is this love story between these two
middle aged people who are trying to navigate that the

(11:48):
miracle of falling in love but having to carry all
the baggage of their past and the mistakes. And yeah,
so yeah, it's a it's a Murner show with lots
of lots of killing and lots of kissing.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, and there's there's a lot of stuff going on
between a body found at a wedding, and there's some
feuding families and a double kidnapping and a stalker that's
after a pop star. I mean, there's a lot of
stuff going on here, and there's plenty of storylines and
it just continues to get more fascinating and every episode,
doesn't it.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Yes, and we were we these are based on books,
and so the first season was was mostly honoring the books,
and this second season the writers had the freedom to
just go with the characters that have been established by
the books to tell whatever stories they wanted. So I

(12:47):
think they've had quite a bit of fun with it.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, and it looks like one of the characters is
gonna be running for town council, so there's a political
campaign involved in season two, so again, a lot of
fun things that you can do, and I'm excited to
see where these stories go.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
Well, yeah, yes, we did have a lot of fun.
And Marshall gay Harden, you were talking in politics. She
she plays the mayor of the small town of Gibson's
calls love interest. Who's the librarian who's turned into a councilwoman.
She she has she has power over the budget that

(13:27):
I mean, Carl needs money because his is a jurisdiction
has been expanded because he's such a good detective. So
he's a he's doing this huge job with with too
few officers. And anyway, there's a there's a tug of
war as far as resources and and and politics and

(13:50):
and agendas and blah blah blah. But but yes, Marshall
gay Harden is at the center of it all. And
she she's a she's a she's dynamite, set, anxious. I mean, gosh,
what the privilege to.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Work to be very nice again, it's called Murder in
a Small Town Tuesday nights on Fox and if you
missed any episodes, you can catch those on Hulu. ROSSI
thank you again for your time today. We appreciate it,
sir by pleasure. I've got a link to all of
the information about murder in a small Town in the

Have a few more old English words that we really
do need to bring back. Okay, and these have been
kind of fun to read. Actually, I had no idea
that their their language was so colorful back in the day.
So a driggle dragon is a dirty, untidy woman, driggle dragle,
A malt worm an old term for a drunkard, which

(16:15):
I could see a maltworm that makes sense, That makes sense.
Fustiller fustillarian a lazy, low.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Useless person, fustillarian.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Idol headed, a silly or foolish person, and a slug
abed someone who stays in bed too long. You slug abed, No,
I've got a few more tomorrow today, and that's news

John?

Speaker 2 (17:16):
The television was invented only two years after the invention
of sliced bread.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
It so that is slice well?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I think so, I don't know. Fun fact for you heiding.
Human adults breathe about twenty three thousand times a day.
That's a lot of breathing. Fun fact for you hiding.
At first, penicillin was called something else. Do you know
what they called it.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
I have an idea.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
Mold juice.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Oh, I can see that that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
I can't even imagine. I'm gonna prescribe.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
You some mold juice.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Fun fact for you, Heidie, what's that?

Speaker 2 (17:56):
That is very fun. And will do one more fun
fact for you, Heidi. Before the paint tube was invented
in eighteen forty one, artists stored their oil paints inside
a pig's bladder.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Ew.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Yeah, I'm assuming it was a dead pig because I
think that would be a very messy to get it inside,
very uncomfortable for the pig. Yeah, pretty sure, it's you know. Yeah, anyway,

for some weird news. Inhabitants of an apartment block in Bavaria, Germany,
have been calling the police to investigate the relentless buzzing

(18:43):
of their doorbell late at night. They were surprised to
find the culprit not a teenage prankster, not even an
adult prankster. It was a slug. Yeah, a slug had
been sliding up and down the bell plate, creating havoc
in the building.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Oh funny, and.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Angry residents out of their beds long after midnight when
they couldn't sleep because of the noise. The bell continued
ringing even after police arrived. A closer inspection revealed a
slimy interloper inching across the metal plate, leaving a glistening
trail in its wake every night. Authorities eventually relocated the
glasstrope pod to a nearby patch of grass after giving

(19:20):
it a firm lesson on apartment etiquette.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Oh that's so funny.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Listen here a slug. I wonder why I was doing
that every night at that's right.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
I don't know. He must add places to go.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
One in one hundred and twelve million, Oh wow. Odds

I love that too. And have you ever been at
a table where like somebody leaves and everybody talks bad
about them, and then you're thinking, what are you gonna
say when I leave?

Speaker 5 (22:56):
Right?

Speaker 2 (22:56):
You know? But if they walk away and you go,
that is the nicest guy. He is the greatest person.
Be quick to give credit to others when things work out,
but be the first to admit responsibility when things go wrong.
Chill out when driving, don't be nice, be kind. If
you act like the kind of person you want to
bump into on your worst day, life will get easier.
People will open doors for you literally and figuratively. Stop

(23:18):
giving a hoot what other people think about you. And
then one of the other cheat codes for life, learn
how to say no.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
You need to learn this. I probably do so desperately.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
I probably do, but I don't do that often enough.
These are cheat codes for life. I've got the entire
list in the show notes for today at johnndtheidishow dot com,
and we'll finish the list on the radio tomorrow The
Joneidi Show. Thank you for listening to The John End
Heidi Show, brought to you win part by my pillow

would like to try it, be sure to check it

always like to wrap things up around here with good news,
and I think this is good news. Thieves steal a
boy's wheelchair. That isn't all my good news. But then
strangers gave him something even better. Yeah, so what began
is a horrible people, I know. What began is heartbreak

(24:14):
for a Midvale family turned into a powerful story of generosity, teamwork,
and hope. Just one week after thieves stole eleven year
old Axe and birds donated electric wheelchair, a group of
nonprofits came together not only to replace it, but to
surprise him even more. He lives with a MC It's
a rare genetic condition that causes stiff joints and weak muscles,

(24:35):
makes it difficult to walk the long distances. Insurance had
not provided him a wheelchair, so somebody donated one to him.
It was a lifeline. It was devastating when it suddenly
vanished from the family's parking space.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
That is horrible.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
The wheelchair was stolen. We kind of hit rock bottom.
As dad Jason said, we were all seeing red and
anger and thinking how could somebody do this. I had
to remind myself, and I had to remind my wife
and the family that sometimes God works mysterious ways, and
God brought these wonderful people to us. One of these
wonderful people was Mike Felice, with disability Outdoorsman, Utah. After

(25:09):
seeing this story on TV, he immediately knew who to call.
He says, don't focus on the negative, Let's focus on
the positive. What we can do to resolve this. Let's
get this young man a new chair. Together with Compassion,
Mobility and some other organizations, the community quickly rallied. Within
a week, he had not only a brand new wheelchair,
but one specially designed for him. Love it so he

(25:30):
can operate this with his elbow?

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Oh wow?

Speaker 2 (25:32):
So anyway, the King's Cameo offered to outfit him with
hunting gear as well. Huckleberry Hiking donated tandem hiking equipment
to help him enjoy trails with greater ease. Supporters even
raised twenty five hundred dollars for the family for other expenses.
Seeing his son Jason in this new chair left Jason
almost lost for words. I've got a link to the story.
Isn't that great?

Speaker 3 (25:52):
But it's such a sad start. Yeah, because what kind
of discussing people are out there that are like, you know,
there's a wheelchair.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Let's totally understand why you would do that. But I'm
so horrible.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
But I love the reaction that out of.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Something bad, something good happened. And I've got a link
to that story in the show notes for today at
