(00:49):
stuff too. I don't know what, but it's here somewhere.
If I find all my otherwise I'd got to make
things up, but I'll probably find my stuff. Yeah, we'll
do that instead. Thanks for listening to The John and

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Today's Pumpkin spice Day. Oh tis the season, and I
found a pumpkin spice margarita, which actually is very interesting.
I wouldn't think of pumpkin spice and tequila.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
But that's kind of here we are.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
So it's pumpkin vodka. I didn't even know that was
a thing.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
I didn't know that was a thing either.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and agave nectar. Oh wow, interesting,
that is interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Indeed.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, I can't say I would rush out and order one.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Probably not me either, but somebody might if it's your thing.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Very nice spice girl, but I know there's a lot
of you out there.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, I've got a link to that drink in the

Now surveys and studies and such. Do you want to
get ahead in your career and still enjoy yourself? Some
experts say using humor, sharing jokes, memes, or witty remarks
to reduce stress and bond with colleagues and even show
leadership potential. But then researchers at University of Colorado Boulder
show being funny is not as easy as it sounds,
and they say a bad joke can actually hurt your

(02:49):
career more than help it. So you got to be
careful about that, right, Sure, I looked at you. Humor
works when something feels both wrong and okay at the
same time, they say, so as long as it's not
too wrong. Don't take heidie. That balance is tough to strike,
they say, especially in diverse workplaces, what is maybe harmless

(03:10):
to one person might be offensive to another. Studies also
show women face harsh or backlash when humor misfires. Here's
the takeaway from the research. If you don't need to
be a comedian, try thinking playfully and lightning the mood
rather than chasing laughs. So, you know, if you're like,
you know what, I probably don't need to try to
be a wise guy in this situation. For me, I
love using humor, but I also understand that not everything

(03:32):
is funny to everyone. So it is very much.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh, it's such a fine min It's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (03:38):

(04:02):
biggest stars lining up to play Batman. So there's a
bunch of people who have said I'd like to be
the Cape Crusader, So they of course don't tell us
who that's going to be, but they're working on it,
and they say the film's plot is also still very
much in flux. It's too bad they don't have, like
some comic books to go back.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Don't They just keep doing these because.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
They keep making bazillions of dollars? And Spider Man brand
new Day has resumed filming after being suspended when Tom
Holland got hurt. He had a head injury, very like
a serious fall, it sounded like. Anyway, they're back to
work and they're hoping that's going to be all ready
to go next July when it's set for release. And
after returning to her roots in season fifteen finale of
Doctor Who, Jody Whittaker says she's happily returning to the

(04:45):
long running sci fi series, reprising her role the thirteenth
Doctor Who. So that's kind of interesting. That is number
thirteen for Doctor Who. That's not a show that I've
ever watched, but I have friends that are big fans.
Then I looked at how much backlogs I would have
to go through. Oh yeah, count me out.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, so many.

Did you know? A recent UK study found that headphones
can harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat, like ten
times as many even to.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
The nasty and your Your debit and credit cards are even.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Worse, spipeing you as daily. Headphones are rarely cleaned, making
them a surprisingly dirty accessory. Researcher swab various types and
discovered alarming results on ear models two hundred and five
bacterial colonies over ear one hundred and sixty five, wireless
in ear eighty and wired in ear forty eight. So
the worst worthy on ear by comparison to toilet seat

(06:11):
only has twenty one colonies of bacteria. Depends on the toilet.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Sea, I think so. Yeah. I think it depends on
which bathroom you're swap.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
The importance of cleaning your headphones is now on the
top of your mind, so maybe clean them. Now we
don't know everything, but now we know this.

This is one I've told before, but okay, this one
always makes me smile.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
All right, what do you go?

Speaker 3 (06:48):
As I get older, I remember all of the people
I lost along the way. Maybe my budding career as
a tour guide was not.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
The right trash. That's a good one. That's worth sharing.
For the fifth time that was not it's a second second.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
There we go.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
That is your joke of the day on the John

Speaker 7 (07:09):

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Time now for the scoop of the day. Weight Watchers,
now known as w W International, file for Chapter eleven
bankruptcy protection after struggling with approximately one point five billion
dollars in debt. That's a a lot. You think they
can trim the fat around there, and anyway, No, I'm
sad to hear that because I know people who've utilized

(08:02):
that system and have done very, very very well with it.
So there you go. Does changing your clock make you fatter?
With clocks e with clock set to turn back an
hour on November two? In some places, not everywhere, but
a lot of places. New research highlights the toll that
seasonal time chang change and speaking in cursivity that seasonal

(08:25):
time change can take on your health. A Sandford led
study found that shifting twice a year disrupts your circadian rhythm,
the body's internal clock, raising risks for obesity, stroke, and
other conditions. Using mathematical models and CDC data, researchers estimated
that permanent standard time could prevent nearly three million cases

(08:45):
of obesity and stroke combined, while permanent daylight would also
benefit about two million people. So if they did daylight time.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Cause obesity, I don't know. You spend that extra time
in the house just stuffing your Currently.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
The study concludes at different times offered greater health protection.
So some say this is better, some say that is better.
That's probably why we just keep switching back and forth.
Experts say consistent morning light exposure strengthens the circadian rhythm,
improving immunity and energy. Despite growing evidence, most Canadian provinces
and US states and many other countries still follow the

(09:18):
century old daylights.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I would not mind seeing that go.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
It would be kind of nice. But you know what,
at the end of the day, I don't know how
big of a difference it would make. So they say
three million studies. Yeah, we don't know. That is your
scoop of the day right here on the John and
Heidie Show.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
HEDI Show.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Thank you so much for listening to The John and
Heidie Show, brought to you in part by jascasemedical dot com.

Thank you for listening to The John n Heidi Show
on a Wednesday. Excited a visit right now with Ben Shapiro.
He's got a new book out. It's called Lions and Scavengers,

(09:57):
The True Story of America. Ben, Thank you for your time.
Tell me a little bit about this book.

Speaker 6 (10:01):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
So.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
The basic idea of Lions and Scavengers is that there
are two forces that are always at war inside the
human heart. One is the lion, the part of you
that wants to be dutiful and wants to make the
world a better place, innovate risk takes, strengthen the social fabric,
build family, church, community. And then there are the scavenger
part of you, which looks at the problems in your
life and says that's due to malign forces. Outside my control.
There are entire movements that are dominated by the scavenger

(10:23):
mentality now versus the lion mentality. You have entire groups
that are dominated by envy as their chief mode of
doing politics and their way of moving in the world.
And they are a threat to the civilization. They want
a tear down a civilization. They don't have anything in
common with each other except that desire to tear down
a civilization. And if lions go lobbily, if they get tired,
if the lions decide that out of guilt or politeness,

(10:43):
they're going to back off. Unless the scavengers have their way,
all the systems that we rely upon for our prosperity
and freedom will be torn down.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And this new book is available now, and it's not
your first book, Ben, how many books do you have out?

Speaker 6 (10:53):
It's a few, Yeah, I mean I think that under
my own name, so I used to go right, but
I think under my own name this will probably be twelve.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
What's it like being a ghost writer? I always thought
that was kind of a wild idea. And there are
some people that put out a book and they don't
even know what's in it. I'm like, did you hire
a ghost reader too.

Speaker 6 (11:08):
Yeah, exactly. So basically going back to you know, my
early twenties, and there any situations where you'd have some
right wing, relatively well known figure who'd get a big
advance and had never written a book, didn't really know
how to write, and so very often without that person
and then with the tape recorder, getting their thoughts, transcribing
their thoughts, finding supporting material, forward those thoughts, organizing in
the best possible way. Typically I insisted that the person

(11:29):
who know whose name it was going under actually read
the book. You don't want a situation like there's one
with Charles Barkley where he denied things that were in
his own book because he hadn't read it. But yeah,
that's typically the way that it was done. I was
known in the industry as kind of a turnaround artist.
I could turn around an entire book in three weeks
or less.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
And with all that you have going on, you're super busy, dude,
How do you find time for all this? Is it
about time for you to get a ghost writer?

Speaker 1 (11:49):
No?

Speaker 6 (11:49):
I won't do that ever, ever.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Ever.

Speaker 6 (11:50):
I write all my own stuff. Things don't go out
under my name that I haven't writen a Number one,
I don't have levels of trust in other people for that.
But number two, I actually loved the writing. The writing
is my favorite part of what I do. Is that's
the most lucrative part of what I do, right, I mean,
I have the podcast and daily wire and all that,
But the part that I enjoy the most because it
allows me to organize my thoughts and really go deep
is the writing.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, I'm excited to chat with you about this new book.
And how do you keep your schedule? Has to be
just the busiest ever. You've got a whole team of
people and you're writing books and you're doing shows. How
do you keep it all sorted out?

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Yeah? I mean, thank god, we have a very large company.
So our company is some two hundred plus employees. We
have a really nice system in place over here, and
I've structured my day really well. Again, I have a
very good team, a good production team, and a very
supportive family, so that definitely helps. A wonderful wife. I
have four kids, I have grandparents who live nearby, My

(12:40):
parents live nearby, my wife's parents live nearby. So we
built ourselves a very nice network that it allows me
the freedom to take an hour or two a day
and write.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Lions and Scavengers is available right now. I'm going to
put a link to make it easy to find. What's
next for you, Ben, Do you get to take a
little bit of time to relax or you're working on
another book already?

Speaker 6 (12:55):
I know there's another one in the work's already, you know.
I think that that one is more of a blistic
political theory book about like what should a good Americanism
look like? That that one will probably come out sometime
next year. But yeah, we'd have movies and documentaries and
all sorts of stuff happening in Daily Ware aside from
the Daily Show. This our tenth anniversary week, so ten
years of being a business here at Daily Ware. We're

(13:17):
launching a brand new show called Isabelle Brown Show, which
we're really really excited about. Isabella's terrific. We have another
show that we're launching, a whole Friendly Fire, which is Me,
Matt Walash, Michael Moles, Andrew Claven and some special guests
and surprises shooting around the issues of the day. So
a lot happening.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Here and many of those names very well known names
now and a lot of that because of your company.
That's got to be a really good feeling.

Speaker 6 (13:36):
It definitely is. I mean, not everything we've done has
worked out, and not every person that we've promoted to
somebody who I'm overjoyed with, to be honest with you,
but the reality is that we have I think, really
changed the culture and really helps win some massive battles,
ranging from particular elections where we've been very instrumental to
the trans issue where we were probably the number one
company I think, without a doubt the number one company,

(13:58):
and pushing back against the it why that boys could
be turned into girls?

Speaker 2 (14:01):
And Ben, just having you on the program today, I'm
going to probably have some people upset because I talked
to Ben, you know, and we're not talking politics, we're
talking about your new book that's out. But what is
that like? Being you? It's got to be just kind
of an absurd time to be somebody with an opinion
in this world.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Well, I mean, yeah, again, I'm lucky. I have a family,
I have a doll and so most of the I
would say ninety nine percent of the interactions I have
publicly are usually pretty vosive. You have the occasional person
who will come up and be a problem, but you
know notoriety comes with twenty four to seven security, which
is one of the things that, unfortunately I do have
to pay for.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Ze Well, thank you so much for chatting with us
about the new book today, Ben, I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Be well again. The new book is out now, Lions
and Scavengers the True Story of America. I have a
link to it in the show notes for today at

I think you're gonna get this one, but I don't know.
It's from two thousand and eight. Why so serious?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
That was Batman.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Yeah, it was The Dark Night. Yeah, but Joker said
it Joker Heath Ledger said, why so serious?

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Yeah, and I've never even watched.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
You've not seen that one?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
No, but I'm not a chip superhero.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
There we go. Now we got plans for todnight. We're

Speaker 3 (16:13):
This time of year, people start to get a little
down because it gets dark earlier and it's dark later,
and it's you know, a dark later in the morning, and.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
It's tough timing, year changing.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
I've got a list over the next few days of
how to be happy.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Oh what was that you can do to perk your mood,
like being happy.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yeah. Number one is meditate. Okay, take some time for
yourself to clear your mind.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
See I do that, but I don't call it meditating.
I pray, So I think that's kind of the same
type prayer.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I think is very very on your list. I haven't
seen that. Okay, well, let's see what you Count to
ten before you respond to somebody, before you speak, before
you say something, count to ten.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
You don't know the number ten.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Give yourself some time.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
And then you're like, why aren't you saying something. I'm like,
I'm seven, eight, nine ten.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Find a new hobby and with it you will find
new friends and that will make you happy.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I've done that, and you don't like my hobby or
my friends. This is true.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Unplug This one, I think is so important. Get away
from the technology because it's just a time suck and
it's depressing. And along with that, free yourself from Facebook.
That one is so negative. You see everybody's best on
there when they're posting their photos, and you assume, oh gosh,

(17:33):
my life is dismal in comparison, But you also see
everybody's worst when they're commenting on other people's things. And
saying horrible, horrible things.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
To each other.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Just get a if you can get away from it,
get away.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
From it, I agree, and.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Take stock of what you've got. So make a list
of all of the things in your life that you're
grateful for. I do, and and just really focus on
those things down.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
I thank God for those things every single day.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
And the final thing is pet a pet, get a
pet and pettit. It will make you happy.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
And let's they bite at you while you're trying to
put that, which mind does.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Anyways, that's news to me. I'll have more tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
There you go. That is also news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi, No matter what you've been
told elephants are not afraid of mice, so that's just
like from the cartoons and all of that, but they're not.
They're not really. For maybe one.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
LF feel like my whole entire life is alive.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
I'm so sorry. We'll try better on this. One fun
fact for you, Heide. John, the word oxymoron is an oxymoron.
It comes from ancient Greek where oxy means sharp and
moros means stupid, so the word itself is an oxymoron. Yeah. Yeah,
my nickname Big John Small is an oxymoron. Meanwhile, I'm
just a regular moron. Fun fact for a Heidi, what's that, John?

(19:22):
The average person walks seventy five thousand miles or one
hundred and twenty thousand kilometers in their lifetime. That would
be five times around the world. That's why we're so exhausted.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
H I'm way below average.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Yeah, we'll do one more fun fact for you, Heidi.
John no specific time zone at the South Pole, so
it's just whatever time. So then again, nobody's really hanging
out there, so I don't know that it matters. That
is several fun facts for you now, you know, thank
you for listening to the John and Heidi Show and

a feature length AI made animated film, and it expects
to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film,

(20:17):
the brainchild of a creative specialist at open AI, would
be called Critters with a Z at the end. That's
where you put the Z. It's going to follow forest
creatures who go on and adventure after their village is
just disrupted by a stranger. The goal of the film,
in part is to show that animated films can be
made for far less money and in far less time

(20:39):
using AI. The team behind the film has set a
budget of less than thirty million dollars and a production
schedule of only nine months. So okay, that sounds like
a lot of money and a lot of time.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
That's a bargain.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
But you know what, that's probably way less money and
way less time than the regular animated thing. So probably
there's a part of me that hopes it's really good.
There's another part of me going, I hope it's not,
because I don't want to see all those jobs go
we Oh, yeah, it would be that would be bad.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
I think we're going to lose a lot of jobs
to AI.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
AI kind of wild so weird news right here on
the John and Heidie Show.

Time now for something special with Heidi Small. What do
you have for me? Heidie?

Speaker 3 (22:29):
You know you hear all the time about thrift store fines,
things that people have found through. I've got a few.
This Holy Cow. A man was in an tech antique
store in Fresno, California, and he had a couple of
bucks left and found three photographs that he liked in

(22:50):
this bin that you could search through of just photographs,
and he said, I actually kind of chucked it back
in the box and thought I don't need it. But
then his wife said, you know, some of these may
have some historical significance. Let's grab it and see what
it is. They spent five years researching and persuaded auction

(23:12):
house and authenticator Kagan's to take a look at it.
Turns out one of the photos was dated eighteen seventy
eight and it was Billy the Kid and his accomplice
accomplices in a gang called the Regulators, hanging around after
a wedding in Lincoln County, New Mexico.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Oh wow.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
He paid two dollars total for the three photos. He
sold the one Billy the Kid picture at auction for
five million dollars.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
That is amazing.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
God, Yeah, that is so cool. Two, it didn't say
it didn't matter.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Uncle Carl that pumpkin pie right there.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
So yeah, how crazy?

Speaker 2 (23:55):
That is something special with Heidi.

Speaker 7 (23:57):

Time Now for the list. I'm gonna get this all
in the show notes for today, but I'm only gonna
get through half of it today. Everyday phrases. They came
from jobs, close but no cigar. Have you heard that before?

Speaker 1 (24:40):
I have.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
That's from an old carnival thing where the winner would
get as they would get a cigar as the price. Oh,
they got close, but no cigar. Interest deadline you've heard
that from printing presses, where crossing a line meant costly mistakes.
So they had a deadline. If you didn't cross that line,
you were good, but if you did, you're dead. Saved
by the best that's from boxing, when the bell stopped

(25:02):
a knockout. So if you're heard saved by the bell,
that's a boxing term.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Cutting the chase. That's from silent films, skipping slow scenes
just to get to the chase scene where they're chasing them. Yeah,
just cut to the chase. Burning the midnight oil. This
is from students or scholars studying at night using oil lamps.
They were burning the literal midnight oil. And we'll do
one more, Breaking the ice if you ever heard some

(25:26):
of let's just break the a that's when ships literally
broke the ice to open trade routes. So that's where
that phrase comes from, breaking the ice. So we've got more.
All of them will be found in the show notes
for today at John Anddeidishow dot com Heidi Show. Thank
you for listening to The John and Heidi Show. Brought
to you went part by my pillow dot com promo

and I wake up happy. If you would like to

wrap things up around here with good news, and I
think this is good news. A service dog alerts a
veteran to with a silent medical emergency and pretty much
saves his life. That's happened in Colorado, where an Army

(26:07):
and Marine veteran Hank Ford has a constant companion by
his side, a three year old service dog, Tommy. There
can actually goes far beyond loyalty. Ford believes Tommy quite
literally saved his life. Ford served twenty years in the military,
including Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom and He's faced
a long battle with PTSD, but he described Tommy as

(26:27):
the turning point in his journey. He said he wasn't
the light at the end of the tunnel. He was
the light. Ford said, our bond is just so strong.
The bond was put to the ultimate test recently in
February of last year. Of this year, I believe it
was Ford's wife left for work. Tommy began barking and
pawing and jumping on Ford, refusing to let him sleep.
At first, he thought the dog needed to go outside,

(26:49):
but as he stood up, he realized something was wrong. Said,
I'm dizzy, I'm lightheaded, I'm weak, and Tommy didn't stop.
He kept pawing and poking at Ford's chest, and he
realized his heart was racing out of control. He was
rushed to the hospital. Doctors confirmed atrial fibrillation, and it
was so severe that he probably would not have woken
up if the dog hadn't jumped. Oh, and dog could

(27:12):
have had a massive stroke. His heart had to be
shocked back into rhythm anyway. He said, Tommy is the one.
He saved my life. He laid on my chest for hours.
He said, I believe that if it wasn't for him,
I would not be sitting here right now. He saved mine.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
I love dogs so much.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
I like at these stories and I go, this dog
is amazing, this is so cool. Look how awesome this
dog is. Then I look at our dogs. I'm like,
what have you done for us lately?

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Our dogs? Would I've noticed our dogs acting weird? When
when my blood pressure gets higher?

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Do they?

Speaker 3 (27:42):
M hm?

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Our dogs are weird most of the time, so I
can't really tell the difference.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
I mean, weirder than usual. And they protect me like crazy.
You'd come anywhere near.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
To give heighty a kiss, and one of our dogs
snarls and growls at me. And it's a little girl dog,
and she's just I think she's jealous of me. Oh
she doesn't want me giving you kisses. She wants the
kisses from me.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
I see.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Maybe maybe not all right? Time saying it by Heide,
go bye, Heidy, Giby. Everybody have a great day. Thank
