Well, it's officially October, and it is officially now the
season for scary movies. Yeah, and today happens to be
Janet Lee's birthday. Great genetly known of course for the
shower scene in Psycho.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Well for the whole movie.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
But yeah, but I mean, that's what.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Everybody thinks of when they think of Jantly because it
was the very first time a scene like that had
ever been.

Yes, anyways, I found a cocktail in that theme called
the Bates Motel. Oh, very cool, And this is such
a cool look and drink. This is when I really
would like to like to make. It's got Irish whiskey,
simple syrup, lime juice, soda, water, grenadine and angostor bitters.
And it looks like when you put it all together,
(02:08):
it looks like there's this blood seeping down into the
it's cool.

Now surveys and studies and sach struggling with back pain.
A new Norwegian study offers a simple fix. They say,
go for a walk. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Tracking New technology.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Researchers tracked over eleven thousand adults over four years using
motion sensing devices They found that clocking about one hundred
minutes of walking each day roughly an hour and forty minutes,
it'll cut your risk of chronic lower back pain by
twenty three percent. Surprisingly, how fast you walk matters less
than just getting in the steps. The protective effect was
(03:22):
strongest for adults over sixty five, and it worked for
both men and women. Researchers say that breaking into short
strolls throughout the day makes it easy, so you don't
have to do an hour and a half all once
or hour forty minutes at once. Either way, you're back, well,
thank you so well. We've been taking our dogs for
walks lately. When I say we, mainly Heidi and I
went with once, but I shall network.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
I'll leave the studio once or twice a day and
I'll walk clear up to.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
The top of this past window. I'm like, what is
she doing?
Speaker 1 (03:52):

Did you know the debate is now over on how
to wash jeans?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Literally no, there was a debate on how to wash gen.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
People were talking about, oh, you wash jeans every time
you wear them.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Well.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Lynley McConn, a laundry expert and vice president of Gibson's Cleaner,
says most genes can be worn eight to ten times
before washing them, provided you don't do something where they
get like dirty. If you get a butt on them
or whatever. Denhim may need washing sooner to maintain shape.
If it's stretchy denim well, denim jackets can last up
to fifteen wars. To protect color, she suggests washing jeans
(06:17):
inside out in cold water, optionally adding a half a
cup of kosher salt. Never heard of that before. No spot.
Treat stains with color safe detergent and a toothbrush, not
my toothbrush hiding and avoid the dryer, they say, Simply
lay laundered denim flat to preserve elasticity and fabric integrity. Yeah,
that's that's gonna make it a lot harder because I
(06:39):
usually need them like while they're in the Yeah, I'm
standing there.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Done, Are they done?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Checking? Nope? Still still? And the number of times I've
rushed off to a meeting with damp jeans, yeah, well
more than once. We don't know everything, but now we know.

but it's been tamed down a little tiny bit.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Radio.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I'm gonna get my finger ready to bleep you if anything.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
What's the difference between a Lamborghini and a dead body?
Speaker 2 (07:24):
What's that?
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I don't have a Lamborghini in my garage.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, I've heard the original was believe it or not?
That was down believe it or not? I know it's
hard to believe.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
This is one of my favorite jokes.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Oh yeah you yeah, all right, thank you.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
You're welcome.
Speaker 8 (07:42):
John, I'm second.

Time now for the scoop of the day. The class
of twenty twenty five SAT scores are in and they
are low, reaching a twenty year record low, according to
a report. So that's not good.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
That is not good.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Do you remember taking the SATs?
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:39):
How did you do? Did you do well?
Speaker 3 (08:40):
I actually did.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Really, I did pretty well on that too. I was like,
I didn't.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I didn't, but not because I studied or anything. I
was like, I was filling in ovals.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
I did a pat clown student diagonalsud Now I did okay,
I don't remember what it was. I got like seven,
I think no, all right. A growing number of people
are in embracing repeat traveling. We've actually done this. It's
when you revisit the same vacation destination year after year.
We did seven years of doing the same trip, and
(09:08):
then we quit doing that trip. A survey of two
thousand American travelers found that by visiting the same place
for holidays, many are seeking familiarity and comfort and connection
with local communities. Repeat visitors often feel like locals, with
sixty five percent reporting a strong sense of belonging, while
beach goers and theme park families are most likely to
repeat travel. The survey found that road trippers tend to
(09:30):
explore new places. Repeat travel can also save money, averaging
eighteen hundred and fifty four dollars per trip compared to
twenty two one hundred and six. Whatever I'm saying more money.
Nostalgia and family tradition twenty sixteen. Whatever that is. Nostalgia
and family traditions are motiv key motivators. More than half
(09:51):
of those surveyed plan to revisit familiar spots in the
coming year. Some other findings the average number of repeat
visits five percent return to the same destination every year,
and forty nine percent of parents said they've taken their
children to a destination that was meaningful to them when
they were growing up. So I went here when I
was a kid. You should go too. And you're like, wow,
(10:12):
did it smell? That is the scoop of the day
on The John and Heidie Show. The Heidie Show, Thank
you so much for listening to The John and Heidie Show,

(10:33):
Thank you for listening to the John and Heidie Show
on a Friday. Kyle McLaughlin is an actor, and he's
a winemaker and an Internet sensation, and he's been in movies,
He's been in TV shows. I'm going to go through
just a little bit of the list here, The Doors,
The Flintstones, Show Girls, Inside Out, Confess, Fletch, Inside Out two,
(10:54):
Blink twice. And if I don't mention some of these
TV shows, I'm going to be in trouble, things like
Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother?
And then there's this little show that people absolutely positively
love called twin Peaks. Oh yeah, that and then another movie,
Dune in nineteen eighty four. Kyle, You've done so many
amazing things and now you've got a fun project of
(11:14):
your own. Tell me a little bit about this latest project, Kyle.
Speaker 9 (11:18):
Oh, thanks, John Yeng What are we even doing? Basically,
I sit down and have a conversation with young creatives
gen Z millennials, people that are doing things that are
interesting to me. And we talk about the creative process,
their journey, how they started, how they use their social
media to enhance the career, and I share stories of
my journey along the way, and we just really have
(11:39):
a nice time for about an hour.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
And You've had an amazing journey in show business, movies,
TV shows, things that everybody has seen. Now, how did
you get your start in show business?
Speaker 9 (11:50):
Oh gosh, you know. I started as an actor on stage,
wanting to go to New York and work in repertory theater.
And I was trained at college at the University of Washington.
And while I was in Seattle, I met a casting
agent that brought me to Los Angeles to meet David
for the movie that they were doing, Dune, and David
and I, David Lynch and I just had a connection
and I screen tested and I made it all the
(12:11):
way through, and there you go. That was my first
experience in front of a camera.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Dune was a huge hit. I remember watching that back
in the eighties, and so many of the programs you've
had a chance to be a part of are huge.
Twin Peaks many others. Now you get to ask other
people about their projects. Where did this idea come from
for the show, Well.
Speaker 9 (12:27):
Probably influenced a little bit by my son who's seventeen
and wanting to wanting to be able to communicate with them.
He's pretty good. But it got me thinking about the
young creatives coming up and who are the new who
are the new creators that we're going to be following,
that are that are doing things that are interesting, and
I thought this could be an interesting way to start
talking with people and sharing it actually through an audience.
(12:49):
And again, the whole point of it was not to
not to sort of gossip about things or you know,
just ask him a ton of questions. Is really to
have a conversation, a shared conversation about creativity and where
it comes from and what moves you and anything, anything
and all. And again I start off with a simple
question and the conversation goes and we just go wherever
(13:10):
we want to go.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Now, you are so used to doing things like movies
and television shows that are very structured and somebody else
is in charge. Now this is your own project, and
this is something where you don't have the same time constraints.
You don't have, you know, the corporate boss is telling
you what to do. I love the fact that there's
a lot more freedom and flexibility in this.
Speaker 9 (13:29):
I agree with you. It's really what we make it
up as we go, and you know, we have a
format that we follow, and we end each episode that
I do with a little game, something that's appropriate for
the person that I'm interviewing, something fun and lighthearted, and
you know, the conversation takes attorney. Sometimes they're lighter in tone.
Sometimes you know, we get into some heavier things, but
(13:51):
it's all genuine and I find it fascinating.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Many people recognize you from being in movies and being
on television, and in addition to be a face that
we know from that, you're a voice that we know
from that as well. You got to lend your voice
to a character on Inside Out. Did you enjoy being
an animated character?
Speaker 9 (14:08):
I really do. I enjoy it. And Inside Out was
such a treat, such a pleasure. A huge Pixar fan,
of course, and they just they created something very special
and I played the dad, Diane Lane played mom, you know,
and we just I don't know. It's just a joy again,
really clever, a great movie. And I think the second
(14:29):
one that they had was was great too. They really
they repeated something wonderful. And so I've got to participate
in both of those films.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
And we get to see you in another season of
Fallout real soon. And you've got a project on FEX.
You get a lot of stuff going on, and it's
kind of fun when I'm watching the movies. Like I'll
watch a movie or a TV show and there you are,
you pop up over and over. You've stayed quite busy
in your life, haven't.
Speaker 9 (14:52):
You, Thanks john Yet you stay around long enough, you know,
you get a few things behind you put them under
your belt. I guess.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Well, congrats on What Are We Even Doing? And and
again this is out right now for folks that want
to listen to it, and you've got some real fun
guests on the show.
Speaker 9 (15:04):

some weird news. A Japanese athlete set an odd world
record by sprinting one hundred meters on all fours in

fourteen point five seconds. Wow. Twenty two year old ruse
Fai Yona broke the previous record of fifteen point six
six seconds. It was held by an American Colin McClure.
Yona says he began running on all fours in middle
school after a teacher suggested a four le suggested that
four legged animals are faster. He studied the movement of
dogs and cats and monkeys. To refine his technique, training
(20:55):
mostly on sand, he had to adjust to the rebound
of a track. Determined to expand this unusual sport, he
vows to keep improving his performance and to chase future records.
He's going to keep shaving time off that so one
hundred meters and fourteen point five to five seconds on

employees are twenty percent happier when this happens at work.
What is it? Yeah, when they get free food. Yeah, yeah,
it does make you happier.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
It does.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
It's like, hey, and here's the thing that's weird, and
this is the world we live in today. I was
just in a chat with a bunch of radio people
and somebody in that chat was talking about how some
a listener brought them treats and they're like, did you
eat these treats? And they're like, oh, yeah, we ate
the treats, And everybody else in the chat was like,
I would never eat something that a listener brings to us.
What if you upset them about something? And then I
(22:27):
get to thinking about it, I'm like, how many times
have I eaten treats that were brought to me by
I'm gonna have to quit doing that. After reading, I'm like,
I don't think I do things to upset people, like
to make them poison me. But I'm like, I don't know,
maybe it's.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Not poison you, but what if they put like x lax.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
And on I don't know anyway, just maybe it opened
my eyes just a little bit. That is your question
of the Day on The John and Heidi Show.

I have?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
One?
Speaker 1 (23:08):
More?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Thrift store fine alas took place at a Goodwill in Phoenix, Okay.
A man who was in there just shopping and decided
to just browse at the at the watches and he
saw one that he recognized the brand and thought, I
bet this is probably worth a little more than the
five ninety nine that they're charging.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Okay, so he bought it.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
He learned that he had just scored one of the
most desirable ever made watches by this company. There were
only nine hundred of these watches manufactured. Yeah, and anyway,
he put it online, tried to sell it, ended up
settling on an offer for thirty five thousand dollars from
a collector from San Francisco, plus his dream watch. So
(23:55):
this man bought him his dream watch and paid him
thirty five thousand dollars. Isn't there in order to get
this watch that he got at Goodwill for five dollars.
So it does pay to look through stuff and those
I love to.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Go to through stores.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
I found some good deals too. Never that good of
a deal.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
No, We've never lucked into anything like that, but.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Well, very nice. That is something special with Heidi.
Speaker 7 (24:16):

Time now for the list. This is from BuzzFeed where
people were saying what is the most overpriced thing people
buy just to flex? Here are some of the responses.
Luxury clothing for babies, They're gonna grow out of six
hundred dollars boots in just a matter of weeks, so
why not do something else? Another one designer sneakers that
look the same as a forty dollars pair of sneakers,
(25:09):
but they cost eight hundred dollars. It's basically just going, hey,
here's my rent money, but hey look at my shoes.
Another one bottle service. When you go to like a
bar and you do the thing that is super expensive
and fts then they put lol. Remember that for a
little bit. Those the little pictures that people were selling
on the internet front. Oh yeah, that didn't last.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
That was supposedly going to be such a huge deal.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Food topped with edible gold. I've heard it has absolutely
no flavor, so yeah, I don't know. I've never tried it.
Natural diamonds are wildly expensive when you can get nearly
flawless lab grown for a fraction of the price, and
nobody can tell except for like the person selling it.
I'm reading this off the face. It's not me. Clothing,
they say people pay hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars for
(25:54):
a T shirt just because there's a certain logo on it.
You could buy another T shirt next thing on the list.
Stanley cups. Our daughter has one. She loves her Stanley.
I again, I drink out of this. This came with
water in it and then I refill it. So yeah,
I'm pretty simple, dude. There's more on the list if
you want to read them all in the show notes
for today at John Anddeidishow dot.

to wrap things up around here with good news, and
I think this is good news. What a cool story
(26:39):
A tiny Quebec fishing village celebrates as fourteen of their
neighbors become instant multi millionaires. Oh yeah, Saint Paul's River Quebec.
A single lottery ticket change the lives of many fourteen
longtime friends and neighbors struck gold back in September when
their Lotto Max pool hit the fifty million dollar dollar jackpop.
(27:00):
That's so cool, making nearly ten percent of the community
multi millionaires.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
That is so cool.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
The winners, many of whom have been playing together for
eighteen years, each walked away with about three point five
million of their own dollars.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
I still love that.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
When they first reached out, there was a lady named Della.
She and her husband were the first people to get
the call. Chelsea Griffin, owners of the local general store
where the ticket was purchased. That was the second person called.
They say, it was hard to believe this right. I've
been giggling ever since, laughing about the moment she got
a call from the cash here that morning. The store
itself didn't miss out on the good fortune. They also
(27:36):
earned a five hundred thousand dollars bonus for selling the ticket.
So he's thinking about retiring earlier than he originally planned.
The impact of the wind goes far beyond this group.
Carpenters and contractors in the village. About two hundred people
already being swamped with a requests for upgrades on their homes.
Local carpenters are getting bombarded with calls.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
That's so great.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
The celebrations had brought joy and laughter to every corner
of this community. Winners include seniors finally looking to retire,
families eager to prove children something nice, and even a
mother and son duo. Four of the winners live on
the same street, with one resident affectionately now nicknamed that
whole street Millionaire's Row.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
That is so cool. I love this so much.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Yeah, I think this is really cool. And even people
who are not involved in the winning, like this person said,
I'm standing in this beautiful place watching fourteen members of
our community become millionaires. It's almost unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
This community is going to be like mister Deed's. Everybody's
driving around Lamborghinis and it's really cool.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I love that story and I've got a link to
it in the show notes for today at johnandeidishow dot com.
