Now. Surveys and studies and such. An international study is
linked later breakfast times to a higher risk of early
death among older adults. Researchers tracked three thousand people aged
forty two to ninety four for thirty five years using
health and lifestyle questionnaires. They found that as participate aged,
they tend to eat both breakfast and dinner later. These
shifts were associated with poor physical and mental health. Most notably,
(02:51):
each hour's delay in eating breakfast was tied to an
eight to eleven percent increase in all causes of mortality.
Researchers are not saying that eating breakfast later is going
to cause you to die. They suggest that as we
get older and health problems mount up, we're likely to
begin breakfast eating breakfast a little later for some reason.
So they think that that's the reason that we do it.
(03:12):
But I don't know. What do you think, Heidi, I
have no idea. Yeah, we haven't had breakfast lately. We've
been skipping now surveys and studies. We've been looking into
fasting and we've done a lot of different styles. But
it's been interesting. Surveys and studies and such. On The

Time now for the scoop of the day. A study
found that ten percent of us ten percent, Heidi, claim
to have never eaten a hot dog. Can you imagine
ten percent. That's a lot of people who've never eaten
hot dog. Here's the thing. I will admit this. I
like hot dogs. I like regular hot dogs. I like
beef hot dogs.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I like beef hot dogs.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I have cheese squished into them for some reason. I
don't know why you need to know real cheese, but
I do it. But I'm like, those are good. I
like the ones at the gas station are on the
thing that just rolls forever and ever and ever. I
save that hot dog. I take it off the roller
and I save it. And I eat that hot dog too.
So I am a fan. So there you go. And
according to hotels dot com the twenty twenty five Hotel
(07:59):
Room Inside Report, hotel tech is evolving quickly, Heidi. Today
many rooms feature practical comfort tech upgrades like smart TVs
with streaming, customizable lighting, fast Wi Fi, smart fans, and
even Ai powered concierge or chatbot services. I've not seen
those yet. Not the place's Heidi books me in when
(08:21):
I go places. Bathrooms are also going high tech with
smart mirrors displaying news and weather, motion sensors for faucets
like you just reach over and water comes on, color
changing smart showers, and voice activated bath controls. Looking ahead,
hotels are exploring more futuristic innovations, including robot chefs, AI
(08:42):
powered room controls, and even voice activated services. While automation grows,
hotels continue to balance cutting edge technology with human interaction,
keeping check in and guest support very personal. I think
that's important.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
That's super important. I would not be happy if I
showed up. I would telling some touch screen that it's.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Talking to you. It's telling you please scan it again.
That doesn't make sense. It's not working. I don't know.

Thank you for listening to the John ed Heidi Show
on a Movie Star Monday. I've got not one but
two guests joining me, Emil Hirsch and Sean McNamara. We're
(09:37):
going to talk about a new film that's out now.
It's called Boo Artist at War, and we've got Sean
is the director. Emil is one of the stars of
this film. What is it like portraying a real person
because the guy that we're watching this movie about he
really existed. Is that different.
Speaker 10 (09:53):
I've played real life characters before, so I knew what
a privilege in an honor it was. When Sean sent
me the script, we had wonderful initial conversations where we really,
you know, we laid out certain goals for the character.
This is a character who always saw life as the
(10:13):
glass as half full, and who had a wonderful sense
of humor and was able to use the humor and
to bully up others around him even in the darkest
of times. And that was that was the quality of
the character that I just I connected with and I admired,
And I think the scene with him by the fence
with the young teenage boys thinking about taking his life
(10:36):
and he's able to talk him down. I felt like
that really encapsulated who Joseph was and the best of
the best of what Joseph was in a lot of ways,
and I found it very moving and touching in a
way that I couldn't even really put my finger on.
I was like, man, this scene is so moving. And
when I talked to Sean, we both echoed the same thing,
(10:58):
we felt the same way, so I knew. I knew
that we were on the same the same page, which
is just so so important, and Sean was a fantastic collaborator,
and we were just you know, I got it in
my head after the read drew that the comedy was
(11:19):
our way to the Promised Land, and Sean and myself
and the writers and the producer, we all just were like, Okay,
let's let's make sure that every every moment of comedy,
every light touch is the right light touch, is the
right joke, is the right tone. And you know, I
(11:42):
think it's really a testament to Sean of how relentless
he was in not stopping even until we were like
cameras were rolling.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
It was.
Speaker 10 (11:52):
It was, it was a very it was a thing
where we were just scrambling to get the best version
at all times.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I love that. Emil Sean, let's talk to you. You're
the director of this film. What was it that drew
you to this project where he said, I have to
be a part of this.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
It is Well, when I was a little kid, every
summer i'd go to San Diego and next door to me,
the Rowdens lived, and they were a Jewish family, and
we would hang out all summer. And I remember one
day I said to my friend Greg, who was my age,
what's on your grandmother's arm right there? There are these
numbers there. My mom's like, she just don't ask about that.
But the mother said, no, no, he should know about this.
(12:30):
And she told me about the story of the Holocaust
when I was like nine or ten years old. So
when the script was sent to me and I read it,
I felt like I knew this story for two reasons.
That the characters I felt like I'd seen before, and
obviously they're in Schindler's list, and the couple who have
smaller parts in Schindler's lists who get married in the
flash out barracks. So with those two memories in my head,
(12:50):
and then I was laughing and crying while I was
reading the script, and I'm just like, this is good.
Words on the page can make me do this, imagine
if it really happened. And then we just started the research.
I read the book by Joseph Baud Dear God, Have
You Ever Gone Hungry? And in there it was his
charcoal drawings that he did during the World War Two,
and I was like, here's an artist expressing himself in
(13:11):
the worst of times that it talks. And then he's
telling about how he would play jokes on people in pranks,
and he was a practical joker. So all of a sudden,
I'm going, this is a character that is really just
full bodied and has to be told about. And then
you find out he saved over eleven hundred lives and
all those people went on to have children and go on,
and he had his own family because he fell in
(13:32):
love with the love of his life in the plash
Out concentration camp, and his opening line was would you
be my sunshine? Because he needed to get this map
to dry, and it was cloudy and he was probably gonna.
Speaker 11 (13:44):
Get killed if it didn't dry. But somehow he had
a chat with her. He asked her if she'd be
his sunshine, and the maps dried, and they lived, and
he just kept helping people escape.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
I love that. What an amazing true story, and I
love the fact that you guys work together to build
such a beautiful movie. And it's so sad what happened.
But for something this beautiful to come from something so nasty,
I think is just a great thing. Again. The movie
is called Bao Artist at War. It's in theaters right
now all over the place. I've got a link to
more information as well. Emil Shawan, thank you so much
(14:18):
for taking the time to chat with us on this Monday.

Speaker 2 (14:23):

Well, I've got some more nice quotes, all right, what
do you have for me? And most of them I
don't know their names, so I'm not even going to
say them, but I will just read their quotes. A
part of kindness consists in loving people more than they deserve.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Oh yeah, that is great.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
That is absolutely I love that. To air on the
side of kindness is seldom an error.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Oh yeah, I agree with that.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
And the other one for today. We do know this
beautiful woman, Princess Diana. Yeah, she said, carry out a
random act of kindness with no expectation of reward, safe
in the knowledge that one day someone might do the
same for you.

more than that.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
I have way more than that. My mind is constantly.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Sadly, I bring up many of my thoughts every day
and then Heidie's like, can you please get back to work.
It's like, well, I was thinking, yeah, stop thinking? All right?
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Fun fact for you hiding what's The average child will
eat about fifteen hundred peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by
the time they graduate from high school.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
I think I'm way with peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I couldn't even tell you the last.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
And either, I think I'm way behind by the way,
I don't think I've had probably more than a couple
hundred in my entire lifetime, So I don't know why
that is fun fact for a hiding What's edge on?
Being hungry causes seratonin to drop, causing anxiety and stress
and anger and sadness. So that's if you're hungry, you
can be stressed and angry and.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Sad I agree with that all of that.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
So they're saying, hey, maybe you just have a you know, bite.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
To eat snickers.
Speaker 2 (18:15):

Time. Not for the list. Here's some trademarks that have
become generalized because people have said it so much. So
I'll give an example. Think how many people used to
refer to Kleenex or Jello. But that's actually a brand
name both of those. Yeah, but they've been called generalized trademarks.
Here's some others. Escalator. The non generic brand name is
(23:19):
moving staircase.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
I did not know that.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
The escalator was patented in nineteen eighty seven by the
Otis Elevator Company. Now we just call all of them escalators.
Highlighter So like this thing right here, No, that was
a brand name. The brand name is highlighter. Otherwise it's
called a felt tip writing device. Yeah. Interesting, that's why
we call these things highlighters. And I have a brand
name Highlighter, which I never have brand name anything. Heidi,
(23:42):
I must have bought this, definitely not you. How about
kitty litter, The non brand name is cat litter. The
term kitty litter is actually a brand.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
I didn't know that either.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Scotch tape. It's actually transparent adhesive tape, introduced by three
M and nineteen thirty under the name Scotch Tape. Granola
is a brand invented by Kellogg's. Yeah, but now the
non branded name is Whole Grain Cereal. So we'll get
some more of these. I've got several more We're gonna
get to all of them, but I've every one of
(24:13):
them listed in the show notes for today at johndeidishow

I think this is a really neat story. It's from Virginia.
(24:40):
Community raises thousands of dollars to support an eighty one
year old veteran who was working at Walmart. So I
love this story. Oh wow, eighty one year old guy
he was checking receipts, known as mister Thomas, mister Thomas,
it's whateverbody called him, but he's a Vietnam Vet. He
returned to work despite his age after using his life
(25:00):
savings to care for his wife, she suffered four heart attacks.
With a cane in hand, he continues to work long
shifts to make those ends meet until the community stepped
in to lighten his life.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
One of the shoppers there, Sandra Emerson, was so moved
by Thomas's story that she started to go fundme to
help this gentleman out, which I think is really neat.
They wanted to raise one thousand dollars. That's how much
they wanted to bet.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
They blew out the water.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Over twenty thousand dollars. Yeah, it says it really just
touched my heart. Emerson said, I was only thinking we
would raise like a thousand dollars and that would be great.
But look how the community has come together. He returned
to Walmart to share the news with Or She did
rather to share the news with Thomas. His reaction was heartfelt.
So when I showed him what everyone has done for him,
he was amazed at the outpouring of love. She recalled.
(25:49):
He said, this is going to bless his life in
ways that we can't even imagine. So I love this story.
