It's Wednesday. My beautiful bride is at my side. Hello, Heidi. Hello,
and you're at my good side. Thank you for being
over there. So okay, I can hear better out of
this here. If you're over there, I wouldn't even know
you're talking to him, I see. And kids don't listen
to music real loud when your mom and dad tell
you not to. So I did that for way too long.
Excited to have a guest on the program. This guy,

(00:41):
he's got nerves of steel. Scott Yule is his name.
He's from the TV show Ice Road Truckers on the
History Channel. You ever watch this? I watched it with
your dad one time. We were watching We were at
their house and I was watching this and he's like,
excuse drive trucks in the ice. I'm like, that's why
they call it ice.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Likes to watch trucks do the is.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Weird stuff man. Anyway, Scott is one of the new
recruits and there's a new season out right now. It
was off for a while. It's been on in reruns,
but it's been off for a little bit. They're back,
So get a chat with Scott Yule from Ice Road
Truckers on the History Channel. Coming up in a bit,

Speaker 3 (01:32):
See today is Emergency Nurse Day. Oh and we all
should appreciate and celebrate emergency nurses because holy cow, oh yeah,
those people see some stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
I remember somebody tripped on our sidewalk once and got hurt. Yeah,
and there were three nurses there within like fifteen seconds.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Amazing, amazing people haven't.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Been walking by them, like, thank.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
God for them. Seriously, but I found a nurse cocktail
really vodka liquor forty three which I've never heard of either,
and it's spelled lic o R, so if you're looking
for it, that's how it's spelled. All right, Ice cubes
and riopbeer, which is very interesting, very odd. Yeah, yeah,
but anyway, that's what it's called.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Well, I've got a link to that drink in the
show notes for today at John and Heidishow dot com.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Now Surveys and studies and such. According to a survey,
the average adult will spend well more than a year
of their lifetime in the bathroom.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Poll of two thousand adults in the UK found the
average person spends four hundred and sixteen days in a
bathroom three hundred and seventy three for men four hundred
and fifty six for women, does this.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Include showers and everything? I'm assuming I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Otherwise I can't imagine why women would be in here
almost twice as much as men. Oh yeah, here it is.
Much of that time is devoted to getting ready. There
you go three months of your life spent prepping for
work alone. Sharing a bathroom adds to the stress, with
seven and ten finding that frustrating top restroom pet peeve
is running out of tepee, clogged drains, and then messy partners.

(03:33):
Bathrooms are not just functional their escapes. One and six
said they hide there for peace and quiet others before
using it for pep talks like talking into the marraor
going you're good enough, Gosh.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
People like you.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I hear what I'm doing. That all your smart enough
arguments also happened, and their heart to hearts happened. And
here on one point four percent said they've given birth
in their bathroom. No wonder half of us say a
great bathroom is keen to happiness, with many crediting at renovation.
I'm sorry, crediting renovations for the bathroom to boosting the mood.
So very good, that's kind of good. We've got multiple

(04:03):
bathrooms at our house, and I find that I use
one more and he to use the other one more,
and I like that just fine. Like you and all
your makeup and all your stuff. It's good surveys and
studies and such on The John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 5 (04:17):

Screen Reading a Rainbow is coming back, classic series being

(04:39):
revived by PBS. The new iteration of the show will
be a digital series, debuting Saturday. So I think that
this was like a week ago, so I think it
already debuted, and that's kind of cool. It was on
from nineteen eighty three through two thousand and six, and
now it is gonna be back. And there's no bad
blood between Drew Barrymore and Martha Stewart. Martha returned to
The Drew Barrymore Show. Well, apparently there was like a

(05:01):
viral moment where she playfully pushed the host away for
being too touchy. So then this got like us online
and people made it something that it wasn't. But she said,
I won't touch you again. So and then how are you. Mandell,
who I've had a chance to talk to. I think
he's a neat dude, is going to be hosting The
Price is Right in Canada, So it's a Canadian spinoff

(05:23):
of the Price is Right, and it will be Yeah,
he said, I'm hosting Tear a Free The Price is
Right tonight, So it's a reimagining of the game show.
I think that'll be really really cool. That is big screen,
little screen on the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 6 (05:37):

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Heidi, did you know that robot umpires will potentially be
a thing in Major League Baseball next year? The ABS system,
or the Automatic Ball Strike System, has been tested in
the minor leagues since twenty nineteen. It will allow teams
and two challenges per game. If there's extra innings, they
would get more challenges. Pitchers or catchers or batters can
signal a challenge by tapping their helmet or their cap.

(06:31):
Successful reviews would then be played on an outfield video board.
Human umpires would still make the calls, but ABS is
expected to reduce disputes. Last season, over sixty percent of
ejections stemmed from arguments over balls and strikes. Stats show
umpires balls and strike calls are accurate about ninety four
percent of the time. So if they're right ninety.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Four percent, what do we need this thing?

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Why are we fixing that?

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Maybe it's just me. I just don't want any more robots.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yeah, well, I don't mind when they're doing stuff for me.
I'm just saying all right, we don't know everything, but
now we know.

Speaker 5 (07:04):

out for the joke of the day with my beautiful bride,
Heidi Small what you got for me? Heidi?

Speaker 3 (07:25):
My wife says, I'm exhausted. I was up till four
am with the baby. Husband said, it's probably not a
good idea to keep the baby up that late.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Oh, I love it. That's good. That is the joke
of the day right here on the John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 7 (07:43):
Hi, I'm pastor Brian with New Freedom dot Online dot Church,
a non denominational Bible based Christian church that meets entirely online.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Time now for the scoop of the day. According to
a poll, just thirty five percent of Americans think the
public school system is working well. Do you think so, Heidi,
I do not think so. Thirty five percent think that
it's doing well. I don't know what the other seventy
very low numbers. I don't know what the other seventy
five percent think. So, yeah, it's yeah, did you catch that?

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I got there. I did, yes, and you went to
public school.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I was just checking to see if you touch it
over there. I know the answer was eighty five. Yeah.
Here's the thing I will tell you. I think there
are some things the school system does really well, and
I think there's some things that it'd be great if
they could bring back. Like when you were a kid,
do you remember.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Well mechanics, Yes, and that was one of the class.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yeah. There's just stuff that and I know there are
some places that still do these, but you know, on
a big general scale, a lot of that stuff has
kind of gone away. So I don't understand why.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Home economics is so important.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
And I talked to somebody said, if there was a
class teaching you how to like balance a checkbook and
you know, do your bills and stuff like that would
be a good thing to know.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I had that class. It was called consumer Economics.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I had that class too. It was called My Mom
and Dad and moving right along. A New York plastic
surgeon has gone viral for claiming that running, you know,
like running just out there running could speed up aging.
Yeah TikTok video viewed more than twelve million times. Doctor
Gerald Imber warns that pounding the pavement can wear down

(09:34):
your joints. Yeah, it can shorten your posture. It can
even cause sagging skin. In the video, he asks, have
you seen a long distance Sorry, have you ever seen
a long Have you ever seen a long time distance
runner that didn't have a gaunt, old face. Well, running
is proven to boost your heart health, metabolism, and muscle strength.

(09:55):
Amber suggests that cycling would be a gentler alternative. Biking
provides a lot of the same cardio vascular benefits, but
it's better for your joints. It also improves your balance
and supports brain health. Studies also link regular cycling to
lower risks of knee pain and osteoarthritis. Reaction to the
clip is mixed, some swearing off running, others defending it

(10:18):
as it was their personal fund of youth. So here's
the thing, I think, to each their own.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yea.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
For me, I like biking more than running, but I
still don't like biking, so still better than running. If
you ever see me running, look behind me. There's something
to you.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
There's something coming after me.

Speaker 2 (10:35):

Thank you for listening to The John and Heidie Show
on a Wednesday. Excited visit right now with Scott Yule.

(10:57):
He is with Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel.
And I see on here that you're new to this program.
Are you new to being an ice road trucker or
how long you've been doing this?

Speaker 8 (11:07):
No, I'm in the Ice road trucker for twenty about
fifteen years of a new Ice roads.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
So for folks who don't know much about this. Let's
talk about what ice road trucking is. It's a white
knuckle ride. Let's talk about why it's so dangerous.

Speaker 8 (11:19):
Well, you know you're going across the ice. It's frozen
ice and muskeg, but can giveaway at any time, you know,
if you make one wrong mistake. And also the communities
were delivering to depend on those loads, so even if
wad falls off, you know, damage, you have a lot
to think about. It's not like highway drabbits, you know

(11:40):
where you have roads and everything else. These roads are
twisting and bending, and so what you normally would put
on for cargo securement down a highway, you've got to
kind of double it up going on these roads.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Because it's intense and the stuff you're delivering this is
not just like I'd be nice if it shows up, No,
it's needed. It's like a lifeline. It's really important that
it gets delivered.

Speaker 8 (11:59):
Yes, I delivered to one community where they were really ecstatic.
And then they took me and showed me the two
houses that burnt down that year in the summer due
to the fires. And here the family was living with
family members, you know, and the last material we brought
in was to build their new homes, you know, so
it means a lot to them. It's not like you

(12:20):
can run the local hardware store. So when you deliver
those loads, you see that. Even the people come out
in their vehicles to check it and they're just all happy, like, oh, finally,
you know, you can see the sense of relief. You know.
So as soon as the weather's good and suits, they
get building. They're they're immediately building, and then knowing that
next winter when I get there, it's more material for

(12:40):
another home or something. You know, I can't wait to
see these homes that they've built.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
You know.

Speaker 8 (12:45):
Those are the little things that matter.

Speaker 9 (12:46):
You know.

Speaker 8 (12:47):
People don't realize it, but those communities are amazing communities,
amazing people. They treat you very well and they depend
on it, you know, and I can see why they
live there. It's just to sense a piece and quiet.
It's a very community oriented and helping each other out.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
You know.

Speaker 8 (13:04):
You don't have much that in our society anymore.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
So what do you do when you're not doing ice
road trucking? You got other things you do do, stay
busy as well.

Speaker 8 (13:11):
Well. I also want to bar up here in Yellowknife,
too hardly try to rock saloom. So it's a unique bar.
It's actually Canada's most northern strip clubs. And my wife
runs it for me. And then I also do landscaping
and other work and bards work like I have a
small bars with bars to like people. I have cabins

(13:34):
on lakes. We'll barge the material to them and we
do fires, burn and fight fires. Like last year I
was a fighting a fire with a D sixty dozer
down at the border, trying to keep the road open
for the forest fires. And that was adrenaline rush.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
So a lot of the stuff you do, there's a
little bit of adrenaline, isn't there.

Speaker 8 (13:53):
Oh yeah, yeah, I have to have that. I'm getting
old pasts. I'm gonna find weird ways to have an
adrenaline rush.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
You know, I can't heal like these young So what
was it that made you decide you wanted to be
an ice road trucker?

Speaker 8 (14:03):
Honestly, I have been trucking. I've been trucking twenty five years.
Last fifteen on nightros. But I was doing long haul
state side in Canada, all over Canada the States, and
I looked at my buddy one day at the auction
and I'm getting tired of long haul and he said
me too. He just just want to go up to the
old nights on the ice rigs, for sure. We both
flied to a few different places and we got hired

(14:25):
on and they came up. I fell in love with
the community and fell in love with doing this, and
he went home and I did.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
And now that is home to you. And in addition
to truck and you're doing other fun stuff there as well.

Speaker 8 (14:35):
Yeah. Part of my group up here, we feed the
homeless and take care of homeless people and ween and
children that have been abused. We helped them out. So
I do all kinds of things I can with the community.
It's just giving back. As stay say, how I was raised.
I've raised as a farm boy, and you help each
other out, right. There's not many people like that left
in the society, and I'm going to be never changed.

(14:58):
I'm going to help whoever I can help out. It's
just the right thing to do.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Ice Road Truckers was on a hiatus for a while,
but new episodes are out again more tonight on the
History Channel. Do you guys all know each other? Is
this a tight knit group?

Speaker 6 (15:10):
No?

Speaker 8 (15:10):
I didn't know them. I didn't know them from a
hole in the wall actually until I was down there.
Then I got to beat them. The only one ever
that I've known was the original guys like Art Bert.
I've known him well. Him and I used to run
together on the Yellowknife Road before he was on TV,
and I knew Alex Debi Gorski from Yellowknife.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Here, Scott, thank you for taking the time to chat
with us. You'd be safe out there, yeah, sure, you
have a great day. Absolutely again. Scott Yule is one
of the Ice Road truckers and you can watch that
original series on the History Channel. It's on Wednesday nights,
so they've got more episodes tonight and the new season
out now. All of the details in the show notes

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Time Now for the movie quote of the day. This
was for you, Heidi. It's from the year two thousand
and nine. Tell me the movie and you win. What
I have in my hand it's not a man purse.
It's a satchel. Indiana joneswar is one.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
That was from The Hangover.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
It is from The Hangover. Look at you just one.
You won nothing nothing. I have nothing in my head.
That was Alan Garner from The Hangover. Zach Glafanakis portrays
him in that film and in others. That is your
movie quote of the day on The John and Heidi.

Speaker 9 (17:16):
Well, we're all.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Familiar with certain authors, but did you know they also
had day jobs a lot?

Speaker 2 (17:21):
I'm assuming they.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Yeah, so this is kind of interesting. So Lewis Carroll,
who wrote you know, Adventures in Wonderland and Everything, was
a mathematics instructor at Oxford University and a deacon in
the Church of England. So that's why he used a
pen name, because he wanted to keep get those things separate.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Well, there you go. T. S.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Eliott, who was an American British poet. He worked in
Lloyd's Bank in London, so it was a banker. And
Herman Melville who wrote Moby Dick. Yeah, Moby Dick when
it came out, flopped and it nearly killed his career.
After suffering a mental health break, he found a job

(18:04):
as a customs inspector at the Ports in New York City.
He worked there for nearly twenty years. After he died
in eighteen ninety one, Moby Dick began to earn the
respect that it has. He never get to see this,
he didn't get to see how sad is that? Yeah,
So I just thought that was very interesting and that's
news to me.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
It's also news to me.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that, John? Lobsters taste
with their feet. They also have three stomachs flies. Yeah,
one of which contains their teeth, so they in their stomach.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
That's nasty.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
I know how that works, but lobsters are kind of weird.
Fun fact for your hiding Gorillas, chimpanzees, giraffes, and tortoises
cannot swim. Yeah, tortoises cannot swim. I was not aware,
nor was I. I thought that they spent time in
the water. Apparently, think it is something different. Fun fact

(19:31):
for you. Hiding drag from open windows can reduce the
cars fuel efficiency by ten percent at high speed if
you all your windows down, you're actually getting worse gas miles.
But if you turn your air conditioning on, you're also.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Getting right, you know, whatever's most comfortable.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Pro Maybe I think what you do is just turn
the vent on and then you leave the windows up
and the air conditions it's nice enough. Yeah, I don't know.
And we'll do one more fun fact for you hiding.
A study found that politicians tend to express live and
inaccuracies through longer sentences. So if they talk a lot,
that's because they're lying according to this several fun facts. Now,
you know, thanks for listening to The John and Heidi.

Lisa Catalano is betting big on love. She's forty two.
She's a vintage clothing retailer in California, and she's rented

(20:34):
a dozen digital billboards on a highway promoting her quest
to find a husband and According to her, this is
not a joke, This is not a gimmick. This is
a serious, self funded endeavor. After years of dating app failures,
she launched a campaign in September directing eligible men to
her website, Marylisa dot com. So she wants to get married, Okay.

(20:58):
There bachelors can learn about her, her and her non negotiables.
They can apply for a chance at love. Despite the expense,
she remains hopeful, saying I want to fall in love.
I want to get married and start a family. End quote.
She's forty two again vintage clothing retailer, so she must

how much billboards are, but she's got a dozen of them. Wow,

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Now for the question of the day. This one's for you, Heidi.
Twenty one percent of us have made this gut decision
without thinking about it. What is it? I believe we've
done this every time we've done this, No, get a pet.
My wife we had the discussion, we're not gonna get
any more pets. We're all done. We're gonna travel, We're

(22:21):
not gonna get any pets. And then it was like
a week later, my wife calls me, Hey, what do
you think about this dog?

Speaker 3 (22:27):
We're definitely a doghouse.

Speaker 9 (22:29):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
And then we did it again. We got two dogs.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
We're not going next. We're not gonna do it again.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Don't say stuff like that. We'll end up with twelve.
That is your question of the day. On The John
and Heidi Show.

Speaker 5 (22:41):

Speaker 3 (23:00):
It was reading some stuff and I found some really
interesting celebrity like grave information, like Princess Diana. Hers is
actually on her parents' property. It's an island surrounded by
a man made lake in our country's estate and the
public cannot visit it. But it's just a single mausoleum,

(23:21):
a single occupancy mausoleum that she's in. There is a
smaller memorial on the shores that people can go and
see for her. Jules Verne, who wrote a Journey to
the Center of the Earth. His mausoleum was sculpted by
Albert Rose and it was it was commissioned by Jules

(23:45):
Verne himself, and it is a statue of the author
wrapped in a shroud and violently breaking through his own
tombstone as if rising from the dead. So that's what
has tombstone looked like. And Buck Owen, who is a
country music legend. His rest on the family plot in Bakersfield, California,

(24:05):
bearing two plaques the buck Owen's Family says and Bucks
place the classic classical style building supported by two huge
pillars that flank two heavy metal doors and are adorned
adorned with full sized guitars.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Cool.

Speaker 3 (24:21):

always like to wrap things up around here with good news,
and I think this story is adorable and Idaho boy
invites his entire special needs center to his birthday party.
For most kids, a birthday party is balloons and cake,
inviting a handful of close friends. It's the one day

(26:42):
year when it's totally acceptable to be a little bit
selfish and make everything about you. But for Grant Mullen
in Idaho, his birthday wish was about others. He regularly
joins his father volunteering at a local recreation center for
people with special needs known as s n R. That's
the name of the center. It's important to get your
children involved at a young age, the dad said, it

(27:03):
really makes a huge difference. Well, that spirit of compassion
clearly rubbed off on little Grant. His birthday was rolling
around and he didn't ask for gifts or games. Instead,
he asked his parents, hey, can I invite everybody from
the Special Need Center to my celebration? When they said why,
he said his answer was simple and heartfelt. He said,
because they don't get invited to birthdays. Sometimes people don't

(27:24):
get as much love. Grant's birthday wish turn into a
beautiful moment of inclusion and joy, reminding everyone the best
celebrations are the ones where nobody is left.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Out the heart. I love that.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Yeah, so, Grant, you are on your way to being
an awesome young man. So I've got a link to
that story and you might have even seen it. It
was on CBS Sunday Morning, which is really really cool,
and there's a video, so if you want to see that,
