Speaker 2 (00:30):
Is that thing adorable?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
I have?
Speaker 4 (00:31):
What was that?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Like two inches tall and maybe like an inch and
a half white. It was for espresso, but I kept
it because I've never seen a cup that tiny and cute.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Was exactly cute.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I don't know what I'm going to do with it.
You just sit in this studio until Heidi Tdy's up
and throws it away. But it's adorable. Coming up in
a moment, I'm gonna be visiting, well, not a moment.
Later in the program, I'm gonna be visiting with Jordan Goodman.
He's America's money answers man. I'm going to talk about

you have to talk about the Kentucky Mule there you go,
which is bourbon limejuice, ginger beer and a mint sprig.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Ooh, you sprig? Very ouch, you don't. I've got a
link to that drink and it's got a sprig in it.
It's in the show notes for today at John at

Now surveys and studies and such. According to psychologist Mark Travers,
the number one thing the couples most often fight about
is not money. It's not sex, and it's not parenting.
The real culprit is tone of voice yay. He wrote
this in an article for CNBC. With a sigh, an
I roll or a clip delivery, it can make an
innocent question like did you take out the trash sound
(02:37):
blameful or full of contempt. Research shows only a small
part of communication is actually the words. Most of it
comes from the tone in the body language and the
facial expressions.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I can see that.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Because tone carries emotional weight, partners often remember how something
was said more than what was actually said. Travers suggests
walking back sharp tones in real time with quick resets
like hey, you know what, let me try that again,
or gently asking a partner to rephrase, preventing small conflicts
from snowballing. What usually happens in our household is when
I'll ask a question like that, Heidi will throw something
(03:09):
at me and I'll say, have missed me?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Never thrown anything at you.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Uh No, But there are times I remember once where
you said, don't look at me with that tone of voice.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
I think it's from a movie or something, but it
made me laugh. I think a lot of the time,
if you just break the tension with humor, that works.
So there you go surveys and studies and such on
The John and Heidi Show.

Big Screen, Little Screen Paramount Plus is reviving Dexter Resurrection
for a second season. Dexter Resurrection is a continuation of
Dexter new Blood following their union of Dexter Morgan with
his son Harrison, as they navigate their own darkness in
the city that Never Sleeps. So I've not watched any
of this. It's a prequel to Dexter Original Sin. Anyway,
(04:11):
this has been going on a while and there's a
lot of fans. So have you seen?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Oh I have not, actually, and I do think that's
probably one I would like, but oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
The problem is there's too many scenes.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, I just don't want to.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Don't do that kind of time and Ourcinio Hall is
telling all in a new project. The actor and comedian
revealing the highs and the lows and the most iconic
moments from his long and winding career, from his start
as a magician to his decade defining talk show in
a new memoir, from his memorable turns in films like
Coming to America and Harlem Knights and hosting The Arsenio

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Heidi, did you know that you have a fifty percent
chance of sharing a birthday with a friend? In any
group of twenty three people too will share a birthday.
According to the math. To find the probability of everybody
in the group having a unique birthday, multiply all twenty
three probabilities together my God giving point zero four nine three,
So the probability of a shared birthday is one through
one point four front nine three equals five point zero seven,
(05:52):
or fifty point seven percent chance.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
That's lovely.
Speaker 2 (05:55):

joke of the day with my beautiful bride, Heidie. And
she's speaking to my level. So everybody stooped down a bit.
Here we go. What do you got for me?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Heyd What did the fish say when he hit the wall?
Speaker 2 (06:28):
What did he say?
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Damn?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Here?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I thought it was going to be something to do
with Walleye, but but he ran into a damn. I
see what you're saying. Yeah, very nice. Good job, Heidi,
good job, Thank you. Oh, she's just skirting the issue
to see if she can say something naughty on the show.
And we let that one slide. That is your joke
of the day on the John and Heidie Show.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Hi. I'm pastor Brian with New Freedom dot Online dot Church,

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Time now for the scoop of the day, and I'm
gonna have just one short, one story today, even if
I can't speak. Usually I'll try to squeeze in a couple.
But I'm going to talk about this because I've noticed
some of this. In a world where buffets and bottomless
bowls are king, many restaurants are downsizing portions instead of
upsizing them. Olive Garden has been testing lighter meals this year,
(07:44):
giving diners a break from endless pasta and breadsticks, and
it's winning a bunch of repeat customers in the process.
PF Chang has also introduced smaller dishes. The Cheesecake Factory
rolled out Bites section on their famously massive menu. Why
the shift, you might ask, Heidi, why, I wondered if
you would ask? Diners are asking for it that's why
(08:08):
I read that sentence. Really funny. Diners are asking for it,
that's better. A National Restaurant Association survey pound seventy four
percent of customers want smaller portions, seventy four percent just
take the rest home. Forty four percent of midday sometimes
order from a kid's menu to save money and save calories.
Experts say some want smaller entrees due to the fact
(08:28):
that they're dining solo, or because they tend to snack
during the day and therefore they're not as hungry. And
many are taking like GLP one drugs to lose weight
so they can't do so they're like, I can't eat
his money.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
But the only way that would even make sense is
if those smaller portions are less expensive.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, my wife overhears two frugals, she'd be like, I am,
I want to take it all and take it home
to go container, and I'm going to eat this for
the rest of the month. Up, there you go. That
is your scoop of the day on The John and
Heidie Show Show. Thank you so much, so much for
listening to The John and Heidie Show, brought to you
in part by Jascasemedical Dot com. Do you have a
Jase case. You can get all of the details for
(09:08):
free right now at jascasemedical dot com. Thank you for
listening to the John and Heidi Show this weekend. Excited
to visit with Jordan Goodman. He is America's money answers man.
We try to talk to him about once a month
to get caught up and everything financial that's happening in
the world. Now, it's been a couple of months, so
it's been a little bit of time, and it's been
(09:29):
a really interesting amount of time because there's a lot
of stuff going on in the world. Where do we
even start, Jordan.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Well, I would say the federal goverment shutdown would be
a good.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Place, and it affects a few things in the financial world,
doesn't it.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Well a lot. Yeah. I mean all the about seven
hundred and fifty thousand seederal workers have been laid off,
some furloughs, some are going to be a criminally, we're
not sure exactly how many. So all kinds of services
of people are expectings of a government are not going
to be there, whether it's approving drugs for US or
(10:01):
food inspection or the TSA workers are working with thereout
getting paid, So it's just dishrupping the economy in all
kinds of ways. It doesn't really look like there's going
to be a resolution anytime soon because the Republicans have
passed a straight continuing resolution for the Democrats are assisting
that they change the healthcare subsidies in Obamacare back to
(10:24):
where they were before the big beautiful bill, and the
Republicans are wanting to do that. So alas a shutdown,
we have a thirty four days. I hope it don't
go that long, but right now it looks like it's
going to go a longer for.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
That, and there's a ripple effect in other places, and
we're seeing that even into the stock market right.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Well, it's interesting stock markets are going up for this
part despite the speak ups and shut down. The private
sector just kind of keeps technolog particularly a whole artificial
intelligence boom. This year alone, be like three hundred and
twenty five billion dollars invested in data centers and artificial intelligence,
(11:06):
throw out the various types. All the big companies, Microsoft
and Google and Amazon, they're all just pouring billions billions
into the That's kind of driving me a calimetor some
extent right now.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Very nice. Well, that's that's a positive, I guess. And
then we're seeing some some conversations happening in the gold
markets as well. What is leading to that.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Well, gold is up over four thousand dollars an ounce
for the first time ever, and that's because of this
all the uncertainty with what's happening with separate governments and
worries about inflation and instability around the world. Everybody wants
to get on the gold rush right now, John, So individuals, institutions,
(11:48):
central banks, private governments, all tons of people trying to
get in on the gold rush. And I think it's
going to go much higher than four thousand amounts.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
And is this a good time for people to buy
gold or was the good time back before the price
went up?
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Well, that was a good time too, But I think
it's still a good time. People can even buy physical
gold coins, they can buy GLD, which is an exchange
funds holding goals, they can buy good minding shares, lots
of ways to do it. No, I think we're not
at all the end of goals rides because of all
the I'm certainly going on in the world.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
And again there's so many other things that we could
talk about. When it comes to the financial world. Again,
like I said, we talk once a month or so,
and there's a lot of changes that happened in that
amount of time. So if somebody wants to stay informed,
You've got a website that has a lot of great
information on it. And if people would like to find that,
how do they find you?
Speaker 4 (12:42):
They can always got money Answers that come or they
can email me directly sorts at money Answers dot com.
I always start to help.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
You with this term and I think we'll squeeze in
at the end. Here also some tariff talk, because that's
made an impact in the financial world, and let's talk
a little bit about that.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Well, particularly related to China. Peasant Trump has said that
Histori imposed a one hundred percent path on everything coming
in from Chesa by about six hundred and sixty billion
dollars worth of goods from Chinada every year, and they
are stopping the export of rare earth minerals, which we
(13:18):
need in all kinds of different areas. So these hundred
percent tasks is supposed to go into effect November first,
so hopefully they'll have that off because that will have
a major impact on both the UF which US consumers
would pay for that, and the Chinese economy.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Well, we'll keep an eye on that, and again I
hope it all ends in a positive way. And the
good news is we can stay up to date by
finding out what is happening if we reach out to
Jordan Goodman. Jordan, thank you again for taking the time
to chat today and we'll talk again in about a month.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Okay, thanks again, John, I appreciate it absolutely.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Once again, Jordan Goodman, he is America's money answers man,
and like I said at the beginning of the program,
we try to talk to him about once a month.
It's been a couple of months so we had a
lot of catching up to do, and if you ever
miss out, you can certainly reach out to him anytime
through his website and again that is Money Answers dot Com.

Speaker 3 (14:51):

don't haven't. I am not familiar with this film, but
now people sending me stuff to stump Heidi. They're stumping me,

I have another myth conception I like to they're fun.
He got too. So the myth is that you shouldn't
throw rice at a weddache. Yeah, you shouldn't because they
say that the birds eat it and it absorbs and.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Yeah, birds exploding all over there.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
It's actually not true.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
It's not No.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Rice is very safe for birds and many species around
the world eat it regularly.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
The why are you not supposed to throw rice?
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Why do they you can't eat eggs? I mean that
they just like to mess with people, I think.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
So whoever it was, they were like, you know, we
need I think.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
It was the bird seed people thought they needed. It
was big bird seed.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Would you throw a bird seed at a wedding? Wouldn't
that be better?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
That's what they were trying. That's what they said yet
to switch to So yeah, I think that was the
whole idea of big bird seed.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
That's probably what was happening. It took over propaganda.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Anyways, Rice doesn't absorb moisture until it's halfway cooked. Okay,
So but by the time it gets to the stomach,
it's already been ground up and is in its early
stages of digestion, so that does not happen. So that
is a myth.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
There you go. Well that is also Yeah, it's news
to me. Oh, there you go. She always forgets to
say that I have a note, but I forgot to
hold that. It is also news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi. The circulatory system is more
than sixty thousand miles long. It's all wound up and
stuffed in your body. Sixty thousand miles insane. That is
fun fact for you, Heid. The Pope cannot be an
organ donor, so you're never gonna if you If you're
like on a donor list, you can't get the Pope's herd.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Well, that's pretty selfish.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
I don't know why, but they won't allow the pope.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I don't know why either. I think that's wrong.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Well, you should talk to the pope.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Although I'm not an organ donor anymore, wait a minute,
or not. I took myself off the list because I
started reading about all of these seargeries where they're taking
your organs when you're still alive.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Okay, well let's not talk about that. No. Moving on.
Fun fact for you, Heide, the world's longest concert lasted
four high hundred and thirty eight hours. Yeah, I'm gonna thanks.
And one more fun fact for you, Heidi.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
What's that? John?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
An NFL Waterboy makes an average salary of fifty to
sixty thousand dollars a year. I could do that, John, Yeah, waterboy,
that's that'd be kind of a fun gig. I think
Adam Sandler did that in a movie once. Several fun facts. Now,

San Bruno, California thought they had an easy traffic stop
when a taxi made an illegal U turn. That was
until they realized there's nobody in that taxi. The car
was a Waimo driverless vehicle, part of the company's fleet
(18:51):
in cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Officers said
they could not issue a ticket since their citation books
do not have a box for robot, calling it a
first police notified Waimo about the glitch. The company said
they're reviewing the incident, noting that its autonomous system is
designed to follow traffic laws while improving road safety. So
(19:12):
there was an illegal U turn that was done, and
that apparently was not programmed properly, Otherwise it would have
known that you couldn't do the U turn there. So yeah, anyway,
like I said, I'm not sure how that works. There's
no driver, there's no ticket. Next time I get pulled over,
I'm going to just hide under the seat and say
this is one of them robot cars. I think that'll work.
Probably not, yeah, probably not. Weird news on the John

beautiful bride Heidie. Despite advancements and technology, these are consistently
getting slower. What are they? I can think of one

of them, yeah, it's slower. I don't know. Drive throughs

you have for me, Heidie?
Speaker 3 (21:00):
I have some jury duty stories here over the next
couple of days.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
We have a friend that had an amazing jury duty story,
but we can't share that one on the radio. What
do you have over there?
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Though?
Speaker 3 (21:09):
So this one is a nineteen ninety four case where
a man was on trial for a double homicide. The
jury was sequestered, which means when you're sequestered, you have
to stay in a hotel. You have no access to
phones or internet or anything. One of the jurors, four
of the jurors violated the sequester in an unusual way
(21:33):
when they used a wineglass and a Ouiji board to
ask a ghost if the defendant was guilty. The ghost
reportedly said yes. So the four jurors told the rest
of the jurors and they found Young guilty.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
What.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Of course, there was an appeal after the news of
the seance came to light, but then he was still
found guilty a second jury later on.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
But wow, that's not good. Well, thank you for that
special with Heidi Small.

Dragon twenty ten. I have not seen that. I've heard
good things. Mary Poppins nineteen sixty four. This is a
movie that you're supposed to watch with a fam The
Wizard of Oz nineteen thirty nine, Gidy's favorite movie. Yeah,
she's not a fan of that. I've always thought it
was a cool movie. And then the last one on
(23:20):
the list is nineteen eighty two E t the Extra Terrestaurants.
Speaker 3 (23:24):

wrap things up around here with good news, and I
think this is good news. And what a story we
have here. An off duty firefighter pulls a woman from
a burning car just seconds before it explodes. Can you
even imagine this? No Louisiana firefighter hailed as a hero
after saving a woman from a fiery crash on Interstate
ten while he was off duty. Andrew Nixon firefighter Saint
Bernard Parish driving home from a wedding with his fiance,
(24:27):
and he spotted flames, and he said, you know what,
I'm not going to just roll past. I'm going to stop.
A car collided with an eighteen wheeler. All I see
is the car veering off into the left and then
tires and then there was a fire. Yikes, So he stopped.
He ran toward the burning car. Unlike most people who
run away from fires. This guy's a hero. I run
(24:47):
up to the car. I try to ask her are
you all right? Is anyone else in the car? But
she's not answering soks. I run around to the other side,
to the right passenger side. Honestly, I had tunnel vision.
I started freaking out. I was like, Okay, I got
to get her out of here. I got to get
her out somehow, some ways, somehow, flames growing, Nixon used
his bare hands, smashed through the windshield. He cut himself
a bit. Smoke was filling the car. He knew I
(25:09):
only have moments, he said. I saw the flames coming
in the car. I knew I had to get her
out right then and there or else. I grabbed her
and somehow, by the grace of God, I literally lifted
her up. Gosh, I pulled her out of the top
through the door. I brought her the side she had
seconds before the car was fully engulfed in.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Oh my gosh, what an amazing person.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
And you know what's even cooler. There's video of this. Yeah,
there's a dash cam that it's a dash jerk is
standing there filming there. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
I don't know.
